#LET HOLLYLEAF SAY FUCK
the-owl-tree · 1 month
Note
While I do tend to prefer depictions of Hollyleaf killing Ashfur where it's a big struggle and she sucks at it, I also think there are a lot of ways to pull off the idea of a Quick Kill. It just also has to be a kind of Failure in its own way.
Like, imagine a Hollyleaf who lunges at Ashfur, and in that moment when she's purely driven by her emotions, she imagines it turning into this big, savage fight. She imagines just fucking wailing on him, she imagines getting her shit a bit rocked by him too. They're warriors, and what does it mean to be a warrior if not to fight with teeth and claws? In her mind, she makes it into this big, special, drawn out thing where she finds catharsis with each blow of claws against flesh. And then. Ashfur just fucking crumples. He gets one-shot. Killing him was instantaneous and mundane, and there is no gratification, no catharsis. In a snap, he's dead. But it didn't fix anything, and it didn't make her feel any better, and now she has no idea where to go from here.
So I would say, the most important thing to me in depicting the murder is that, whether she did it quick or it was a struggle, it has to be characterized with some element of failure. Whatever happened, it didn't go how she wanted it to, it didn't change anything she wanted it to, and it didn't make her feel like she wanted it to. Whether it's Ashfur's murder or revealing the circumstances of her birth at the Gathering or yelling at Leafpool to eat deathberries, Hollyleaf is desperately trying to let out all of her Big Emotions in these Big, Grandiose ways, but it just doesn't work. She's not a stoic girlboss, she's having an emotional breakdown as over and over again nothing is going how she wants it to.
Last line, so real. Like she is having the worst time of her life throughout that book and barely keeping it together, it's more interesting to see her visibly falling apart rather than being Cool and Stoic.

What’s Jayfeather and Alderheart’s relationship like in your au? I always imagined Jayfeather choosing to tutor one of his siblings after Hollyleaf, Cinderheart, and Lionblaze kind of did and he realizes five days later he was mislead into thinking this would be fun but now he just has a little 13 year old on his hands. But I don’t know how well that translates to another time period
Tumblr media Tumblr media
kinda! i think with how the timelines overlap a lot closer (to make sure that characters are within reasonable age differences between each other) alder and his sister were born earlier and are only just barely younger than ivy/dove, so jay/lion/holly’s childhood overlaps with alder/spark’s a little bit. i’d say with squirrel’s fertility issues (probably PCOS or some other unspecified reproductive disorder) they probably have a pretty significant age difference but not to the same degree as the books where jay was a grown ass adult (theres a 5 year difference between them in canon! that means he wouldve been like fucking 35 or so human yrs LMFAOO) by the time alder was born. maybe 10 yrs at the most. dandelion and juniper were born between that but unfortunately didnt survive long
Tumblr media Tumblr media
as for their relationship, they were pretty okay. jay was probably fresh into college by the time alder got diagnosed with an anxiety disorder. squirrel/bramble probably pressed jay about it but he dismissed them because he was still a student at the time and nowhere near a professional yet. alder idolized jay a lot growing up because he “didn’t let his disability hold him back”. there qas a lot of inspiration porn type of thinking on alder’s end and honestly the rest of the family kinda perpetuated it as well so its not just him. its not intentional either but yknow. at a certain point (and a lot of long conversations and arguments between the two about it) alder stops idolizing him to such an unhealthy degree and doesn’t fall into the ‘if my disabled brother can do xyz then i have 0 excuses’ line of thinking as much as he used to. while alder isnt the biggest fan of jay trying to psychoanalyze him mid-argument, he takes his word into consideration anyways
jay likes to say he thinks alder is irritating (in the younger sibling kind of way) but honestly spark was worse than alder when she was a teenager. jay just interacted with alder more since he was quieter and less overstimulating, especially when in the Deepest Pits Of College Homework Hell. also hes bluffing he really does enjoy alder’s company. he’s hard on him because he wants the younger to succeed, evem if hes a bit mean about it sometimes.
alder eventually becomes a pharmacist instead of a psychologist, finding the work of the former much more attuned to his needs and his likes. he’s still helping people. by the 2010s-2020s, he’s even filled and compounded a few medications jay prescribed to his patients!

May i ask why do you think that Brambleclaw wasn't a good father? not saying i disagree if that is what you think, but why do you? just wondering because i like what you say
Again I hope to have time sometime soon to make a big thing like I did with Breeze, but what gets me about Bramble is that incredibly self-concerned. Like, regularly unable to see past his own feelings to the point where he can't consider his effect on other people.
And Po3 in particular is ALSO trying to frame him like the perfect, most amazing dad in the world. It's for the dramatic irony of the reveal, and to make it EXTRA sad that he's going to abandon his children when he finds out they're adopted... but in the process, they just ignore anything crummy he does. Like he can Do No Wrong.
Particular instances I plan to get into;
When he's angry or disappointed, he's NASTY. He isn't this "super supportive papa" that the Three keep saying he is; he's most supportive when they're making him proud.
He fails to notice that Lionpaw's behavior is getting increasingly violent as a result of his mentor physically abusing him. Is that "Great Dad" material? To not notice your son is struggling?
We eventually learn that Ashfur approached him after one of these savage beatings to butter up to Brambleclaw, insisting that this sort of physical abuse is neccesary because it will give him a strong son.
Stress that again; Ashfur appealed to Brambleclaw's ego so he could keep beating his teenage child. In what world is that "Great Dad" material??
When Hollypaw then tries to tell her dad about how uncomfortable seeing her brother being savaged made her, Bramble tells her... ohh she's So smart, and So so responsible, and he relies on her to keep her brothers in line, and what Ashfur is doing is neccesary.
In any other book series, this would have been a MASSIVE condemnation of Brambleclaw. To be manipulated into allowing his son to get beat, and then turning around to tell his daughter he trusts her to understand it because she's so mature.
But because the Erins like Bramble so very much, it's not acknowledged. Then Ashfur tries to murder these kids later.
And like... again, they want him to be seen as so wonderful and amazing so that it's extra painful when he disowns these kids, but AGAIN, Brambleclaw is supposed to be this incredibly loving, unconditionally loyal, amazingly responsible father...
So how exactly is THAT consistent with abandoning his kids during the most upsetting time of their lives?
Does a wonderful father get consumed by his own pain and humiliation and cut off his kids, one of whom is in the middle of a breakdown? Does he take out his divorce on the children? Is being a "wonderful father" seeing the son you let get abused looking at you, DESPERATELY missing you as his dad, and just turning away?
Or, maybe, being a parent is about being mature. Putting aside your own personal anger or pain or ego to be there for your kids. Something like that???
And yet, he continues to act like that for an entire year. Not improving or self-reflecting at ALL the entire time. When it's miraculously revealed that Hollyleaf isn't DEAD, he's STILL wallowing. The kid he raised came back from the dead but FUCK that, who cares, "what about MY feelings?? Why is no one thinking about whats really important. Meeee."
(Mind you, he was willing to help this same person get away with murder in the last arc. But back then, she was his daughter. Now he doesn't care.)
Eventually SQUIRRELFLIGHT has to tell him that he shouldn't throw away his entire family because he's mad at her. Someone ELSE had to shout it down his thick skull that his bitterness is consuming him and he's ruining his life. Even after a year of punishment, she holds his hand like a big baby and guides him away from his OWN destructive behaviors.
But this isn't about Squilf. This is about Brambleclaw.
He enabled his son's child abuse. The abuser went on to attempt murder of his victim. He IMMEDIATELY turned on the kids he raised when he found out they were secretly adopted, because he was angry at his ex-wife. He only changed because the EX-WIFE told him to cut it out.
That's why I think he's not a great dad. I think talk of his Greatly Dadness are narration wank, and when you look closer, you see a FASCINATINGLY flawed character that the Erins hold back out of WEIRD writer favoritism.

imagine if jayfeather never became a med cat. hollyleaf became a warrior too, sure, but jayfeather has his whole "i can't believe he gave the blind kitten to the half blind cat you still have one working eye" in front of brightheart and she's like "it's because i had to learn a whole new style of fighting when i lost my eye and i can fucking do it again"
so she works with jaypaw to figure out his strengths in battle and weaknesses. his problem with visual tells? she interrogates everyone about other clans' fighting styles and recreates them on her own time, and then she works with jaypaw until he can recognize the sound of someone planting their hind paws to rear up, the sound of a front paw rushing through the air, the sound of riverclan warriors emerging from the river when most warriors wouldn't be able to hear it because they wouldn't be listening for it. she runs drills with him again and again, not telling him what clan's fighting style she's emulating before starting and letting him figure out. he gets lightning-quick reflexes, and the ability to tune out most battle sounds to focus on the cat in front of him. he learns how to get his subconscious to focus on the sounds of battle and filter in the sound of approaching pawsteps. he learns how to go for the main parts of the body, the head and legs with a sideswipe and the full body itself by crashing down. he learns that if he scoops up sand, dirt, leaf-litter, and throws it at their face, it'll fuck them up completely. he learns how to track a moving target while he himself is moving.
she brings him out to pieces of the territory without telling him where they are, and has him guess. she has him learn to pinpoint a scent and sound more precisely than any sighted cat, to brush a paw over the ground so lightly that it doesn't crunch dead leaves or snap twigs. she has leafpool cobweb a leaf over her good eye and tries to hunt, to figure out the problem areas, and she figures out workarounds. she brings him to different spots of the territory and quizzes him on the location, on how to get places from there. she has him move silently all the way back to camp.
his siblings graduate. everyone tells them to give up. jaypaw looks them in the eyes and says fuck you, he's learning to be a warrior and it's working.
he and brightheart run drills where they borrow other clans' cats and have them attack jaypaw. he defends himself startlingly well, in their eyes.
at one point he, in typical prickly jaypaw fashion, asks longtail why tf he's still an elder. longtail finds the idea of becoming a warrior again insurmountable. jaypaw flounces off thinking he's better than longtail because of course he does, but it makes longtail happy to see a cat who is like him doing what he couldn't.
brightheart grabs the leader himself and is like "watch jaypaw's assessment. he's doing ridiculously amazing he should be a warrior" and he has to agree, jaypaw has somehow mastered being a warrior despite his disability.
jaypaw gets to be a warrior and spit in the faces of everyone who told him he couldn't, brightheart becomes the de facto mentor of disabled kittens, and the rest of the clan learns an Important Lesson about disability
(edit we have a poll abt his warrior name now)

Did I spend hours going through books to collect different Jayfeather-Leafpool moments to point out how much worse the vigil scene is? Yes, yes I did.
FUUUUUUUUCK Jayfeather.
Bitch literally said "I loved her until I found out she was a liar and abandoned us. BUT WAIT YOU DIDN'T LET ME FINISH. I was also going to say that I forgave her eventually. Also I never could have loved her after the betrayal she committed. But she was a good Clanmate I guess." at her funeral.
He said she "abandoned" them, without mentioning at all that she made sure they would be raised by loving parents that she loved and trusted and only gave them up so that they could be fully accepted by the Clan, nor that she was an active figure in their lives, even if they didn't know her exact relation to them.
Not to mention he straight up lied?? "Hollyleaf died defending her lie" no the fuck she didn't?? Where are you even pulling that bullshit from????

IM INTERESTED ABOUT THE WEIRD ASS BROKEN CODE AU GIMME EVERYTHING FEED ME LET ME ABSORVE THE INFORMATION INTO MY BLOODSTREAM
i half expected you to use the weird crow GIF so thanks for just not doing that that little shit scares me so bad (use it more i love getting jumpscared lol)
also shadow uses multiple pronouns he/xe/ze/she
so leafpool loses the trial - BUT INSTEAD of getting kicked out, she gets thrown into the tunnels in the form of a monster/mutated thing (thinking of making her look more like a starclan cat then the rest because. if she looks like the only sane on there, shadow´s more likely to trust her [also because i say so this is my shit AU])
in the tunnels, any cat that comes from starclan, was murdered as a ghost, or was essentially supposed to be a dark forest cat but oh well was sent down into the tunnels (hollyleaf [ill explain], ashfur, leafpool, antpelt, ravenpaw, spottedleaf, tigerclawstar, hawkfrost etc) and was memory wiped (except for leafpool [because leafpool was supposed to 'live with her sins' or whatever] and ashfur [dunno why it's just kinda funny man lol starclan was just like 'okie what do we do with this shit-man' and forgor it was amazing]) and became mutated/a beast/modified/or some shit
Note: leafpool and ashfur can CONTROL who to give their memories back to
now, these tunnels connect ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL OVER THE PLACE, and shadowkit (poor baby) got trapped in the tunnels at one point, and guess what he fooound??? :DDD ANTPELT!!! A HORRIFYING, HORRIFYING, ANTPELT WITH A WEIRD FUCK ASS ANT-LIKE HEAD!!! :DDD
antpelt comforted shadow and played with xem until he sensed leafpool coming near and tried getting shadow to leave but then leafpool came up behind shadow, greeted him, talked with him, and after a bit leaf pool sensed tigerheartstar's patrol entering the tunnels so she ushered him off and told him to 'visit another time!'
and he did. he visited every other day, and met all of the cats down there (he hates hollyleaf because she's a dick) Ze felt bad for them, being trapped there as spirits, not being able to remember anything (ze's in for a bit of a surprise with leafy and ashy) and leafpool decides to strike a deal with xem; xe can get away from his clan here, BUT he has to try and cure them and help leafpool build a group or society of sorts (relevant for later)
this is all you will be told, rowan. (FOR NOW)

I know a lot of people think that the problem w Hollyleaf’s characterization was that they redeemed her at all but respectfully I literally couldn’t disagree more… first off I think part of the appeal of her character in a series that has been biting itself in the ass for 20 years by refusing to deviate from the good and evil binary- even (especially?) when doing so would make the story more interesting- is her moral ambiguity, like I think making her all-out evil would make her just as uninteresting to me as if they’d depicted her as always being in the right. Second of all I think it’s important to acknowledge that Hollyleaf’s more reprehensible actions are a direct result of her believing that she is always in the right. She has main character syndrome and she is making it everyone else’s problem!! She doesn’t do evil shit to be evil, she always does what she thinks is the right thing to do because she always has to be right. And while this is definitely more out of pride than genuine altruism, I don’t think it necessarily started out that way. With what we’ve been presented I think it’s safe to say that, while Holly has always been ambitious and self-centered to some degree, she is also fundamentally principled with a strong sense of justice and unwavering loyalty to her clan. She might have let her worst traits win out due to stubbornness and being allergic to admittance of wrongdoing, but actually turning on her clan? Committing conscious acts of evil against innocent cats (who haven’t committed any perceived offense against the warrior code)? Hollyleaf could never justify that to herself, and so it wouldn’t make sense for her character. I just hate the way that they went ab her redemption… like I liked the parallels between the fox cub turning on her and the way she treated Leafpool, but other than that, wtf was she supposed to have learned from dicking around underground for however many moons? How did that advance her character growth? I think they should have killed her in the tunnel collapse and sent her to the Dark Forest, bc being sent to cat hell might be the only thing that would ever make Holly admit she was in the wrong tbh. And then!! Bc she realized she fucked up and is still loyal to her principles and her clan, she could have acted as a sort of DF deprogrammer from the inside, warning the cats training in the DF ab what they were getting into and eventually fighting against the DF in the Great Battle. Then we could finally get a DF cat being admitted to Starclan after their redemption instead of this weird reverential treatment of punitive justice that the series seems determined to push on their child audience

I might have a vague power of three/omen of the stars au brewing in my brain because I am way to far behind in the series to actively try and catch up so here are my basic ideas.
Three is Four from the start because God that plot point was stupid and I hate it and it added needless drama when we all knew it was Firestar because it's always Firestar. The four are Jayfeather, Lionblaze, Hollyleaf and Breezepelt because drama but wait there's more.
Squirrel x Crow who have Holly and Breeze. Ashfur is just a dude not an asshole, he dated Squilf for a week but could see she was unhappy because she was in love with someone else and let's her go. Now Brambleclaw is the asshole because I don't like him.
Hawk x Leaf but it wasn't a serious thing looking back on it, more like a summertime fling that resulted in children being Jay and Lion. Hawkfrost is just a little ambitious, has a good relationship with Mothwing, fully supports his ex and sister being in love and tells awful puns.
Holly and Breeze are raised in Thunderclan, Crowfeather lives there with them and Brackenfur is deputy instead of Brambleclaw because as much as Firestar doesn't want to admit it, Bramble is an asshole and Sandstorm yells at him whenever he is remotely rude to Squirrelflight. Holly is mentored by Ashfur who becomes like a fun uncle and Breeze is mentored by Brightheart because fuck you Firestar you promised her an apprentice.
Holly becomes Hollyfur in honour of her mentor because Ashfur is just a cool dude and her power is being able to sense when cats are lying and occasionally, forcing the truth out of them. Her early arch is learning when to call out lying and when to let it slide.
Breeze becomes Breezeflight after his mother and gets Dovewing's power because it's there, might as well use it.
Lion and Jay are raised in Riverclan because they deserve POV chapters and it's the clans best kept secret that they're Leafpool's kits but after that whole Tigerclan incident they all collectively agree to keep quiet about it and Hawk becomes a den dad in the nursery and even after his kits are grown he stops by to help the queens when he can.
Lion is terrified of his power especially because he has nightmares about being like Tigerstar and begs Mothwing to let him be her apprentice, she agrees. Lion's power is still the same but he figures out he can use it more defensively than offensively, if there's a battle he's there acting as a shield while he heals. He's named Lionflower because pretty name.
Jay is a lot happier, he's not forced into being a medicine cat and it's only really the queens and younger cats who worry over him. He gets to be a warrior and is mentored by Reedwhisker (Pouncepaw is mentored by Blackclaw instead) his power is the same as in the books and he occasionally helps his brother out with starclan symbols and prophecies, he gets to have secret meeting with his brother as well and is named Jaystep.
Certain Starclan cats (the loudest being Goosefeather) tell the more involved spirits to back the fuck up and let them be kits. But no one trusts Bluestar, Yellowfang and Spottedleaf to behave so they all get a Starclan assigned bodyguard/spiritual mentor
Hollyclaw gets Whitestorm
Breezeflight gets Thrushpelt
Lionflower gets Oakheart
Jaystep gets Crookedstar
EDIT: I have unintentionally implied that both of Bluestar's "romantic partners" and her nephew are away that she will not stay away from the Four and I love it.
Also Crookedstar yells at any Starclan cat who says Jaystep belongs as a medicine cat (cough cough Spottedleaf and Yellowfang)

hiiiii razorverse questions for u (sorry if these have been answered! tumblr isnt letting me search this update): 1) what is kestrelflight my specialist little guy doing? HOW is he doing? 2) whats mousewhisker up to. my second specialist little guy. po3 apprentice generation is literally my favorite
YAYYYYYYY THANK YOU!!!! i haven't said anything about either of those characters yet, so here we go!
Kestrelflight
-Unlike in canon, Barkface was unfortunately never around to train him- he died back during the forest destruction, succumbing to a combination of old age and sickness. The lack of a medic was a big contributor towards the WindClan Civil War. Mudclaw insisted on assigning a new medic, while Onewhisker insisted on waiting for a line to StarClan to be discovered so they could choose- and he also didn't want to force anyone into the position, even temporarily, so instead, Leafpaw spent a lot of time in WindClan as a temporary medic.
-MASSIVE point of contention. The cats were uncomfortable that he was once again letting a ThunderClan cat into a major position of power, while others insisted that they should appreciate Leafpaw's help when they had none. (This is also where LeafCrow starts here btw)
-It was only worse when they DIDN'T get an immediate sign, and yet no one was up to the task, so for a while WindClan just didn't have a medic. Leafpool eventually had to return after the scandal she committed with Crowfeather along with Cinderpelt's "death", and the clan was now vocally against letting another clan's medic help. But Onestar's fatal flaw is his stubbornness, and he was determined to keep his foot down and not turn back on his decision to wait for a sign. He was trying to keep his morals sooo bad.
-Finally though, they got Kestrelpaw, a young tom who had both the will and the signs to back him up. Poor guy had to deal with becoming an apprentice early at 4 moons though, they put him to work the instant he got the sign. They had StarClan be his mentor. Thankfully there were no serious epidemics or anything during his apprenticeship, but it was still a stressful time and he second-guessed his decision constantly.
-If this sounds familiar, it's because he's a parallel to Puddleshine. Kestrelflight is NOT pleased about being banned from helping the poor guy in AVoS- he knows EXACTLY what it's like in his position, except Puddle didn't even have a sign to back him up! He wanted to be a secondary mentor for the little guy, especially when the yellowcough epidemic nearly wiped out ShadowClan. He was PISSED about this.
-He actually starts off the series being a bit of a doormat, he's overly permissive and lets people walk all over him. Onestar doesn't like this and wants his medic to stand up for himself more because "we can't afford to show weakness" (Sire is projecting!). But after the debacle with Hollyleaf and Willowshine along with the dark forest, he becomes more cynical and less willing to deal with people's shit. Hence him breaking the embargo Onestar set as a "fuck you" to him specifically. (side note: since the Darktail plot is changed to not involve Onestar as much, the embargo plot may or may not stay. I do still plan to have him die in this arc though)
-He was close friends with Hollyleaf and Willowshine, though he definitely felt like a third wheel. He was aware of their relationship but never wanted to say anything out of fear of getting any of them in trouble. In fact, I'm thinking he helped hide Hollyleaf's pregnancy for the most part, though I'm not quite sure how. When Hollyleaf ran away, he was crushed and he tried to support Willowshine however he could, but she was very closed off after the incident and never stopped mourning the chance to know her kits, so he ended up losing her in a way too. It got somewhat better when Ivypaw was briefly a medic, but of course that didn't last.
-He actually had a crush on Jayfeather and was happy when he was briefly a medic, but it never really went anywhere sadly.
-Might hit him with the nby beam. Not sure yet though.
Mousewhisker
-In TNP, he's mostly handled the same as he is in canon! He's a kit that's accepted into ThunderClan with his family after he's in danger of being taken away and euthanized by the barn humans. I don't really have any additions to make there.
-I could be totally misremembering him, absolutely, but I always perceived him as a studious kid who seems like a goody two shoes, always giving an apple to the teacher and getting all As, and is sorta seen as stuffy for it, but in reality he loves to go behind people's backs and break the rules. He's got a sneaky streak! He spies on people a lot and he's no snitch- he'll help you sneak out of camp if he thinks he can get some fun out of it.
-Loves to "erm, actually-" people though. He's a teacher in the clan and he drives some of the apprentices crazy.
-He sneaks out consistently to meet with Minnowpaw/tail. The both of them decide to start training in the Dark Forest because they believe the DF cats' goal is to reform the code, and they want to remove the part that keeps them apart. This does not end well for them. Oops.
-Btw! I keep going back and forth on who the RiverClan three are, but I think I'm gonna shake up the family tree quite a bit here and make them Minnowtail, Beetlewhisker, and Rippletail. If canon doesn't care about their actual canon relationships and timelines then neither will I, these guys have the most material for me to work with so here we go. They're all Icewing's kits and after Rippletail's death, Minnow and Beetle and their mom all align with the Dark Forest, until Beetle also dies. Minnow is the sole survivor of her three.
-I'm not sure what Mousewhisker really does in the narrative himself, he's definitely just a supporting character to the RiverClan three's plots. I think the entire family is aware of him, and are actually cool with it and agree to try and get rid of the law so they can be together (Minnow and her sibs are also halfclan, Icewing has a leg in this too). Proto RiverClan family coup?
-He miiiight take Hazeltail's place death-wise, except he dies in the great battle instead of offscreen greencough. He fights for the clans, but ultimately gets killed trying to protect Minnowtail. Minnow may also be pregnant but idk who her kits will be. Poor girl goes THROUGH IT in The Last Hope.

CrowHawkAsh
ok hey hear me out. all three malefail bastard bitch ass fuckwad men of tnp get together.
It has potential drama, angst, acquaintances to lovers to enemies to lovers, everything you could need.
First of all: These three are a NIGHTMARE at gatherings. Anything a clan leader says is heckled and mocked by one of them, ESPECIALLY Blackstar. It got to the point that the leaders have to coordinate who they're bringing to the gathering this month.
Second of all: Hawkleaf and Crowleaf tried to happen at different times and they fought over her and fell out in their early relationship bc hawkash was crow's rebound from leaf at first. However, ashfur is too manipulate mansplain malewife to let his boyfriends hate one another so he smooths it over between them and a few moons later they're all kissing again. they fight a lot, too, but always make up in the end.
Third: When hawk dies, Ash is so upset he refuses to go to the gatherings for MOONS, to the point Crow finds out one gathering because of rumors and whispers around him. Crow is annoyed enough that he stops caring that Hawk is dead and starts caring that his other boyfriend hasn't left his nest for more than water, food, and the dirtplace in literal moons. So he sneaks out next gathering he's assigned, and literally drags Ashfur out, with Bramble's blessing, in front of EVERYONE (even the baby jayhollylion litter bc theyre old enough to be out and about in camp by now) to force him to the gathering. So Ashfur is kicking, screaming, wailing and crying as he's dragged to the gathering by Crow. Leaf is fucking bamboozled enough that she tells Squirrel that her baby daddy is crow, and squirrel is pissed until she further elaborates that crow wasn't even looking at ash until after she dated him. (She hasn't told squirrel about her brief fling with hawk, but squirrel is suspicious because leaf seemed sad about the news of hawk's death) Anyways, at the gathering, Crow is cuddling and grooming ash rigorously to get the nastiness built up out of his fur, and eventually ash returns the favor. It's the first gathering in a year or so that the leaders hope crow and ash can be together at one, but half a moon later crow dumps ash because of "personal reasons"
Fourth: Those personal reasons are actually his internalized homophobia. Crow is afraid of being gay so as soon as it becomes an idea in his head that Maybe he doesn't like girls? he freaks out and dumps ash. so ash is now angry and depressed, and he's focusing this anger back onto squirrelflight because he doesn't want to hold resentment for the man he loves. (Note: Ash is bi, Hawk is pan, and Crow is gay). This culminates in the fire scene and his death like a year later.
Fifth: Crow is so distraught that his last living loverman is dead that he becomes a nest hermit, and nightcloud, who is stuck raising breezepelt now, is angry as she realizes Crow never loved her. He only loved his "stupid thunderclan and riverclan boytoys!" and was with her for the looks. She knew it was weird he was immediately pushing to have kits when they got together but not that it was because he didn't want to face his feelings. She yelled at him during the dumping of him, telling him if he had admitted and faced his emotions that he wouldn't be so pathetic and unlovable now, which she later regrets telling him as, even trying to fall in love again keeps going wrong for crow until eventually he gives up on loving again. (note: this is to expand upon how grief works, NOT to make crow sympathetic. He is still a horrible, neglectful father and shit partner in this au, but at least nightcloud dumps him early.)
Sixth: Heathertail, who is secretly in a mutual loveship with Cinderheart and Hollyleaf, but also trying to break apart from her lover to escape the codebreaking problems, is the one who helps Crow out of his rut. She shows him how to have at least solace in a world without Ash or Hawk, and he eventually tells her she should pursue Cinder so that she doesn't wind up like him, sad, alone, and gay. (Heather is gay, Holly is aroace but comfortable with romance, and cinder is omni. Cinderlion is a genuine love here but not as genuine as cinderheather, as lion is cinder's rebound)
Seventh: Cinder, Holly, and Heather join up in a mutual QPR. Holly remains functionally single otherwise, Cinder stays with Lion outside of the QPR, and Heather gets with breezepelt.
(heather is not onestar's kit in this au.)

Hollypaw/tuft and the Problem of WindClan!Hollyleaf
Part 1 (Lionblaze and the Problem of WindClan!Hollyleaf)
Part 2 (WindClan!Hollyleaf and the Problem of Hollykit/tuft)
“Hollypaw,” Lionblaze says imperiously, his head held almost absurdly high, “meet your aunt, Hollyleaf.”
Hollypaw stares. Hollyleaf stares back.
“She looks exactly like me,” Hollyleaf complains.
“You look exactly like me,” Hollypaw throws back, indignant.
Hollyleaf snorts disbelievingly. “I came first,” she says.
“I came last! It’s mine now!”
Lionblaze grins. “Well, I’ll leave you two to figure this out on your own, shall I?” he asks, moving to leave.
“Oh, you’re not going anywhere,” the older version of Hollypaw says. “I had to find out about your daughter's name from Dovewing. Dovewing, Lionblaze!”
“Sorrelpaw?” Hollypaw’s father’s expression is serious, but the twitching of his whiskers gives him away. “What's wrong with Sorrelpaw's name?”
“I’m going to kill you and I’m going to enjoy it.”
“What, you don’t like your gift?”
“A kit isn’t a gift!” Hollyleaf nearly shrieks. Several heads turn toward them. Most of those do double takes when they see Hollypaw. “It’s a curse!”
Hollypaw tries to protest that she isn’t a kit, thank you very much, but she’s ignored by both parties.
“She,” Lionblaze corrects mildly. “She’s a curse.”
Hollypaw stares. “What the fuck, Dad,” she says with vehemence.
“Language,” Lionblaze chides, but he doesn’t seem too upset about the whole situation.
Hollyleaf scowls. “You’re legacy named,” the black she-cat informs Hollypaw. “Except there’s one problem. I’M NOT DEAD, so it DOESN’T COUNT.”
This last part is directed to Lionblaze, who only grins.
“Technically you are dead, according to ThunderClan law,” comes Jayfeather’s voice from behind her. Hollypaw jumps forward, hitting her WindClan aunt in the chest.
Hollyleaf lets out a small oomph, but she’s taller than all three of them, a whole head taller than Lionblaze, and she doesn’t stumble. “You see me every Gathering!” she protests. “Every single one! I’m clearly not dead!”
“And now you get to meet your legacy!” Lionblaze exclaims sunnily. “Most dead cats don’t get to do that.”
“I’M NOT DEAD!”
“I don’t know,” Hollypaw’s mother says, startling Hollypaw some more, “you’re looking pretty dead to me. On your feet, at least.”
“OF COURSE I LOOK DEAD, I’VE BEEN GIVEN CONTROL OF HALF THE APPRENTICES’ DEN WHILE—I’M NOT EXPLAINING THIS TO YOU,” Hollyleaf yell-decides, her claws sliding out to meet the grass by Hollypaw’s paws.
“Violence,” Lionblaze chides idly. Literally no one around them looks the least bit concerned, which really doesn’t bode well for the collective sanity of Hollypaw’s family. “I always thought that was more my speed.”
“I will kill you. I killed your mentor, your powers never worked on me, and I will kill you.”
“At a Gathering?” Cinderheart says lightly. “Under the light of StarClan? Well I never.”
Hollyleaf slumps. “You’re all the worst. You murder one cat—”
“Two cats,” Jayfeather corrects.
Hollypaw… is beginning to wonder who exactly she’s named after.
“Three if you count Cinderpelt,” Cinderheart adds. “Which I don’t, but if we’re covering our bases…”
“Yeah, yeah, I get it,” Hollyleaf interrupts, annoyance lacing her tone. She stares down at Hollypaw, and Hollypaw looks up at her almost-reflection with something like trepidation. Or terror. Maybe terror. “Well, thanks for the gift.”
“Wait—” Hollypaw protests, but Hollyleaf is already somehow lifting her by her scruff — I’m almost full-grown! Hollypaw thinks indignantly — and dragging her off toward WindClan.
“Hold up—” Lionblaze starts.
“Where are you taking her?” Cinderheart exclaims in the same breath.
Hollyleaf drops Hollypaw unceremoniously. “You gave her to me,” she explains. “Face the consequences.”
“What consequences?” Hollypaw asks.
“I didn’t give her to you!” Lionblaze argues.
“You actually did,” Jayfeather says, helpful as always.
“Hello?” Hollypaw says into what’s apparently a mass of cats deliberately not hearing her. “Is anyone listening to me?”
“THIS IS WHAT YOU GET,” Hollyleaf repeats, and then proceeds with the kidnapping. A white she-cat falls into step next to her, then a brown one, and suddenly she’s surrounded by a distinctly amused-looking WindClan.
Hollypaw kind of wants to bite someone, but… eh, maybe her parents deserve this. WindClan sounds like a nice sort of vacation. Warrior apprentices don’t get a lot of those, after all.
She can still hear her parents’ protesting and Jayfeather’s cackling as she’s set down beside a WindClan apprentice.
“Holy shit, you’re a fucking clone,” the apprentice exclaims, looking from Hollypaw to Hollyleaf and back again.
In response, Hollyleaf seems to radiate an aura of distinctly unimpressed.
Hollypaw giggles despite herself. Yeah, this should be fun. Weird, but fun.

Rewriting “The Power of Three”-The Sight (text version)
Okay, I said I would attempt to organize a written version of my rewrite here for you guys, so here it goes! I know it’s been a while and I should’ve done this much sooner, but it’s just a lot to organize and go through. A lot of my ideas were written over several different docs before they went into the final script, so this will be an attempt to show you guys what I took down for notes, what I wanted to change/fix/explore, and then what I wrote in the end.
I’m gonna break this up by book because this is already gonna be long. Of course if you just wanna hear all of it, go watch my video: https://youtu.be/D0G_40Q4A_o
I know I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Feel free to use any of my ideas to write your own fanfic or whatever. I have 0 plans to ever actually write this, so have at it. My video was my way to talk about my frustrations with the arc and where I would’ve liked to see it go instead.
I also want to emphasize that my main goal with these “Rewriting” videos is to try to stay AS CLOSE to canon as I can, while still finding ways to make the books more enjoyable (to me, at least). Which was a huge challenge for this series because, to be frank, not a lot happens, and a lot of the things that do happen don’t add up to much. And that’s a big problem. So I had to invent more exciting scenarios/explanations of events to build to a climax that I felt would still be in the spirit of the original books and lead into Omen of the Stars without much changing. Of course, my version of PoT does end up making some big splashes to the canon by the end of it, but I think overall it is still in line with the general themes the arc presented us.
Let’s get started with some of my original notes when going into this rewrite for ‘The Sight’:
Rewriting PoT
Goals/Things to keep in mind:
-Keeping the 3 as POV’s for each book. It’s their story, so Jay, Holly, and Lion should get equal development and screen time. Always ask: How does this make x character grow? How does this change their group dynamic? How does x’s growth affect the world around them? If I can’t answer these questions about each of them, I need to think about it more.
-Find a way to tie each story together by the end. Most books will be structured with the three feeling isolated or separated from each other, but the end should find a way to bring them back together: for better or worse. Each book should also feel like a milestone in them becoming more powerful. They need to level up at a consistent rate.
-Moving the plot forward quicker, with Long Shadows/Sunrise happening mid series
-Hollyleaf being “evil” for the second half of the arc, with Sol as the main antagonist
-Make Sol an interesting antagonist, somehow
-What the fuck am I going to do with the Tribe stuff for this arc??? Hhh…I’ve got plans for it in OotS, but I think scrap all but the bare minimum of it in this arc and use it as foreshadowing for OotS.
-Giving all 3 cats more authority so their powers actually come across as scary to outsiders
-Can’t keep this one as canonical as the Rewriting New Prophecy video, bc the problems with PoT are more of a direct result of the slow paced storytelling, verus NP where the main problem was *how* the story was told
-Will still try my best to keep things canonical, but events from Omen of the Stars can be used and shuffled in as well. Since these series are so closely linked, rearranging these events could help build narrative tension.
-Kill Firestar in Long Shadows. It would be much more meaningful here, especially if we build a relationship between him and the Three. Huge power dynamic shift and allows the Three to actually stand a chance at becoming “dangerous prophecy cats”
-No prologues, only epilogues. Making this a series that makes you ask questions at the end. You get a satisfying conclusion in each book, but the epilogue fuels the mystery and tension of anticipation for the next book.
The Sight
What happens canonically:
Jay, Holly, and Lion are apprenticed
Jay wants to be a Warrior but bc of his blindness is forced to be a Medicine Cat
Holly wants to be a Medicine Cat because of the power it gives her, but switches to Warrior when she realizes she’s bad at it
Lion is big dumb lad who wins fights, loves his dad, and hates Breeze
Graystripe comes back with Millie
Cat Olympics
*indicate who is the focal character of the book. Each book focuses on each character, but each book highlights 1 moreso than the others
How could we improve (?) this:
Jay*- Instead of wanting to be a warrior, Jaykit just wants to find a way to be an active member of the clan, because the clan has basically decided to keep him a kit longer than Holly and Lion, with the implication that he’ll be moved to the Elders den eventually and never be given the opportunity to train. Some clan cats (Thornclaw, Spiderleg) resent Jay and say things like “he’s using valuable resources” blah blah blah, but on the other side, Firestar and others say Jay is part of the clan just like any other cat but don’t allow him to do anything. Brightheart stands up for Jaykit and begins training him privately. After a while, Jay realizes he wants to be a medicine cat and Brightheart helps him learn the territory and how to care for herbs so he can prove his worth to Firestar and Leafpool for the job. Jay’s powers are starting to emerge. He can feel the emotions of the clan and how they resent and pity him and this makes him bitter. StarClan, at least, encourages Jaykit to continue pushing to become a Medicine Cat.
Holly- Mostly stays the same. Note that when she is a Medicine Cat apprentice, she feels ostracized from the other TC apprentices, this builds up as time goes on and she gets more frustrated with MC duties.
Lion- Focus more on the apprentice dynamics. The other apprentices are jealous of Lion for picking things up so quickly, and bc he isn’t humble about it. He also trains in the Dark Forest and loves being better than everyone else at fighting, although he feels guilty for talking to Tigerstar and Hawkfrost. He tries to find comfort in Holly and Jay, but both are bitter towards him as well. Holly wants to be better friends with the other apprentices and Jay is bitter about not becoming an apprentice at all. Lion could even be feeling pity towards his brother that Jay calls him out on.
Mid-book Graystripe comes back. (Maybe Graystripe and Millie come back during a normal day, Lion attacks them and expects to be praised for defending the border, but everyone is horrified he hurt Graystripe. This is part one of Lion’s wake up call.) This whole book is about figuring out where you fit in. After seeing the clan struggle with where Graystripe fits back into TC life, Holly and Jay finally get to do their switcheroo and Lion realizes he’s been a bit of a show-off/jerk to the other apprentices and stops that behavior but instead starts to become withdrawn.
End the book in a similar fashion, with the all day Gathering and the climax with Breeze almost dying before Jay and Lion save his ungrateful punk ass.
Epilogue: Firestar gets the Power of Three prophecy
Okay! So those were most of my notes specifically about how I wanted to handle this book and now here’s my actual script for the video:
So, in my rewrite, instead of wanting to be a warrior, Jaykit just wants to find a way to be an active member of the clan, because the clan has basically decided to keep him a kit longer than Holly and Lion, with the implication that he’ll be moved to the Elders den eventually and never even be given the opportunity to train. Hollypaw and Lionpaw get apprenticed while Jaykit stays in the nursery. Some clan cats (like Thornclaw and Spiderleg) resent Jaykit and say things like “he’s using up valuable resources” “He doesn’t contribute anything to ThunderClan”, which is horrible, but on the other side of things, Firestar and his family say that Jaykit is part of the clan just like any other cat but don’t allow him to do anything.
In the midst of all this, Brightheart stands up for Jaykit and begins training him privately. After a while, Jay realizes he wants to be a medicine cat and Brightheart helps him learn the territory and uses her past Medicine Cat training to show Jaykit how to care for herbs so he can prove his worth to Firestar and Leafpool for the position. From the start of all this, Jaykits powers are starting to emerge. He can feel the emotions of the clan and how they resent and pity him and this makes him bitter and gives him all his angst that we know and love him for. StarClan visits Jaykit one night in his dreams and encourages Jaykit to continue pursuing becoming a Medicine Cat.
Now during all of this, of course, Hollypaw is training with Leafpool. For the time being, this mostly stays the same as the book. With a slight addition that when she is a Medicine Cat apprentice, she feels ostracized from the other ThunderClan apprentices. She doesn’t get their in-jokes and feels like she’s being left behind. This builds up as time goes on and she gets more frustrated with Medicine Cat duties. It’s not bringing her the glory, recognition, or satisfaction she thought it would.
For Lionpaw,  I want to focus more on the apprentice dynamics and give Lionpaw a bit more character development. Reminder: the apprentices around this time are Berrypaw, Hazelpaw, Mousepaw, Cinderpaw, Honeypaw, and Poppypaw. The other apprentices are jealous of Lionpaw for picking things up so quickly. And because Lionpaw isn’t very humble about his prowess either, they pretty quickly start to exclude Lionpaw and call him a show-off. Ashfur also turns out to be a hard mentor to please. (2 guesses as to why. And the second guess doesn’t count.) With no real friends and no Hollypaw or Jaykit to hang around either, he begins training in the Dark Forest. Tigerstar and Hawkfrost feed into Lionpaw’s ego, and in a way, are the closest things to friends that Lionpaw has made so far. As much as Lionpaw loves being better than everyone else at fighting, he does still feel guilty for talking to Tigerstar and Hawkfrost.
At his lowest point in this book, he tries to talk to Holly and Jay about his problems, but both are bitter towards him as well. Hollypaw wants to be better friends with the other apprentices so she doesn’t understand why Lionpaw can’t just get over himself and be nice, and while Jaykit understands the struggle not getting along with their clanmates, he’s still bitter about not becoming an apprentice at all, and thinks Lionpaw has it easy compared to him. Jaykit’s powers also allow him to read Lionpaw’s emotions, and Jaykit is taken aback. Unlike most of the other ThunderClan cats, who Jaykit mostly feels pity from, Jaykit realizes that Lionpaw doesn’t really have any feelings towards him whatsoever. Only apathy.
So the kids are all kinda being shitty to each other and going through A TIME.
My changes here are all done in the hopes of really putting our protagonists through some tough character development, but also hopefully foreshadow their roles for the rest of the series. Each character is going through their own problems with self-worth and handling it in different ways. Jay, Lion, and Holly start off as ambitious, but loving siblings to each other but then things quickly become complicated and messy, putting a strain on their relationship as each becomes more burdened with their own problems. They forget to care about each other.
As we get to the back half of the book, Graystripe and Millie arrive. Only this time, instead of showing up during a Gathering, Graystripe and Millie show up during a border patrol Lionpaw is on. Lionpaw is the first to notice the different scent and charges in after the intruders, attacking them without hesitation, just like Tigerstar and Hawkfrost showed him how to do. Lionpaw’s clanmates are horrified he attacked Graystripe, and this begins Lionpaw’s wake-up call that he’s been too brash and big headed. He begins to realize that the other apprentices were right about him and his ego is shattered.
As ThunderClan debates on how Graystripe and Millie are going to fit back into Clan life, this parallels Hollypaw and Jaykit problems as well. Through watching Graystripe reintegrate, Hollypaw realizes that she’d be happier training as a Warrior. And when Millie becomes part of the clan, this gives Jaykit the courage he needs to tell Firestar and Leafpool that he wants to become a Medicine Cat Apprentice and he can prove he’s capable of doing it. After all, if a former kittypet can walk into camp and become a Warrior, why shouldn’t he get a chance? Though he can feel his clanmates doubt and pity him, Jaykit also feels Brightheart’s pride and confidence in him.
Jaykit’s nerves do get the best of him a few times, and he makes a few unfortunate mistakes, but overall does the job. Firestar questions how Jaykit learned all of this, and instead of outing Brightheart, he tells Firestar and Leafpool that a StarClan warrior taught him everything. This half-truth seals the deal and Jaykit finally becomes Jaypaw, Leafpool’s Apprentice.Jaypaw feels strange, unfamiliar emotions from Leafpool and Firestar is also still strangely hesitant towards Jaypaw’s apprenticeship, Jaypaw doesn’t know what to make of these emotions other than assuming that they still don’t believe he can do it. Jaypaw burns with anger and determination but tries not to let it discourage him.
As we reach the climax of this book, the clans still go through with the all day Gathering, but this time Jaypaw, Lionpaw, and Hollypaw are enjoying the Gathering together. Before the Gathering begins the siblings have a heart-to-heart where they each apologize for not being there for each other. For the first time, Jaypaw feels his siblings look at him with pride. He confesses that Brightheart was the one who helped him learn everything. And while Lionpaw has recovered a bit from his shame of attacking Graystripe, he’s still a bit withdrawn, but Hollypaw and Jaypaw are just happy to have gotten an apology from their meat-head brother.
Another thing to note is that throughout the book, we would still get introduced to Breezepaw and Heatherpaw. Lionpaw in particular has had a few confrontations with Breezepaw. And at the end, Breezepaw still nearly dies until Jaypaw feels his distress through his power and he, Lionpaw, and Hollypaw go save him.
The clans celebrate Jaypaw, Lionpaw, and Hollypaw heroics and things end on a nice little note about finding where you belong, teamwork, and communication.
Only, now we get the epilogue. Ah ha ha! That’s right. There’s no prologue to this series, only epilogues. Firestar is receiving a dream from StarClan. Instead of any particular StarClan cat visiting Firestar, he can only explore a hostile and dark forest, and the words of a thousand ancestors cry out, “Beware. Three will come, kin of your kin, who hold the power of the stars in their paws.” Firestar wakes up in a cold sweat as he hears commotion outside his den. We, as the readers, now realize that this took place several moons ago as Firestar sees Leafpool and Squirrelflight walk into camp with Jaykit, Hollykit, and Lionkit as newborns and Firestar looks on with uncertainty.
Okay, that was a lot of set up, and some definite changes, but I’m hoping that all of this will strengthen the narrative and characterization, AND give us some juicy foreshadowing of things to come.

How does Fallenleaf feel about how Ivypool and Dovewing were treated? And what do the latter think about her (Dovewing especially, since i imagine she was compared to her a lot when it came to the prophecy. I can definetely see an exasperated Jayfeather going 'Well Hollyleaf took the prophecy seriously before- when we thought she was part of it). Come to think of it, I can see Dovewing resenting Fallenleaf not only for the comparisons made about her, but also the fact that Jayfeather and Lionblaze let their sister know but she can't tell Ivypool even as they grow more distant. (Granted, Hollyleaf was told BEFORE they realized she wasn't part of the prophecy, but who knows if Dovewing is privy to that. >:3c)
Their relationship is, uh...
Skip back 100 years ago, Holly Leaves the Tyrant ruining ancient society.
She killed Jay Wing with her own two paws, drove Lion Roar out through grief, and then tried to stop Dove Wing from taking the survivors to the mountain
Dove Wing beat her ass. Handed it to her on a silver platter. Folly Leaves could break her brothers, but NOT Dove Wing.
Fallen Leaves for 1,000 seasons in a tunnel: "thank god i never have to see that random person who mcfuckin wrecked me ever again i think i would die of embarassment and/or fear"
Lionblaze, modern day: "we missed you so much... we were terrified when you acted like that, I thought I killed you when we... well... it's time to put that behind us. Are you prepared to meet your nieces? ...i raised them. If you hurt them I'll never forgive you."
Dovewing: (IS THAT RANDOM GUY WHO KICKED HER ASS)
And then Fallen learns Cinderheart went through with the plan to raise them with Lionblaze so Poppyfrost could have access
But that Poppyfrost did not TAKE that access.
So basically Cinderheart went through all this for nothing
AND on top of all the other new information (and she can't entirely remember where she "left off." Was that one's name ALWAYS Honeysnake??)
One of those things is the prophecy. That was only revealed shortly before the Fire Scene in BB, and then the Fire Reveal, Firestar dying, the Gathering Reveal, uhh... what was the gray guy she killed's name again? Asterfall??
Her freakout before getting time travelled is the fuzziest part of her life, she can barely remember half of it and the order of events is totally scrambles egged. Did the fire happen before or after her grandpaw died??
But meanwhile Dovewing's been raised her whole life with Fallenleaf as like, this big missing piece in everyone's lives, she wanted to know the truth about her for her entire existence. Hollyleaf was an impossible standard to live up to, her mother's true love and her Firekin's prodigal child before her.
And now she can't. Because this is obviously not Hollyleaf. This is a big, confused shadow. That's FRUSTRATING. Dovewing is trying really hard at this point to not show how upset she is about this. You mean to say the sad ghost she could hear shuffling around in the tunnels her whole life was her long lost aunt all along?!
THIS is what she was being held up to, all her life? This is why she could never take a break? This is the fuss? Some Fucking Guy?!
Meanwhile Ivypool is trying to mimic the feelings her parents feel. She takes a lot from Lionblaze, desperate to signal to them that she's in the family and cares about the same things they do. I don't think she really feels much of anything towards Fallenleaf at first-- but if they all care together then it feels like they've "come together"
And Dovewing's lack of enthusiasm, or even desperately veiled frustration, is like betrayal. CARE with me, we're supposed to FEEL GOOD about this AS A FAMILY. And if you can't then WELL WELL WELL look who's WINNING AT CARING ABOUT THIS, something very NORMAL and POSSIBLE to do! Surely, I am the better daughter, actually.
And while all that's playing out, Fallenleaf is still like, absolutely haunted by Dovewing being that random person who kicked her ass. She deserved it but like... she killed her brother in an ancient epoch and it turns out his sister in another lifetime is now his daughter in this one. What the fuck. And she looks at her negatively EXTRA what the fuck
I want them all to have a few good scenes together, but I don't think their relationship to Fallenleaf is... strong.
She ends up marrying their mom, Cinderheart. I think for Dovewing, she DOES actually think that's nice for them.
But Ivypool feels threatened. She feels she's going to get replaced.
This is while Lionblaze also ends up moving on with Toadstep, mind you. Both parents are finding new mates and having new kits
Ivypool takes it especially poorly, Dovewing has complicated feelings.
Isn't it just peachy that Cinderheart and Lionblaze COULD have been good parents all along? They just weren't, for you?
Hollylark is their half-sib through CinderxHolly, and Snaptooth and Flywhisker are adopted half-sibs through ToadxLion
When Fallenleaf learns the full story, she feels sorry for how the two were treated. She would controversially support Dovewing's leave; but she isn't the type to do huge confrontations anymore. Since her time as a Tyrant, she has a sort of godly, detatched air about her.
So there wouldn't be any chewings-out of her brothers. She doesn't have that sort of confidence in her own judgement anymore. Trying to control others and tell them how they should sort out their problems caused the Kitty Bronze Age Collapse lmao

multi i NEED to hear about why warrior cats are not cats (at least by our standards)
ASDJKFL; alright LMAO
here we go besties let me retype my theory <3
okay uh fair warning, this has very little evidence backing it, and it's also a joke. i don't remember why i typed this up originally but i just think it's a funny thing to try and argue that the warrior cats cats aren't actually cats, or if they ARE cats then they exist in an alternate timeline/universe where cats are Very Different.
and obligatory disclaimer i don't think this is the actual intent on the authors' part. i think all of my evidence for this is just based on the fact that the authors, especially in the Early Days Of Warriors, don't seem to know shit about cats. which is fair, but i'm gonna run with it.
gonna go under the cut wahoo b/c idk how long this is gonna get
HYPOTHESIS: Warrior cats takes place in some kind of alternate timeline/universe where cats evolved very differently and are perceived very differently. Either that or these cats are fucking aliens, take your pick.
EVIDENCE:
So the most obvious evidence I have for this claim is how genetics seem to work in the series. I'm not an expert on cat genetics by any means, but there are dozens and dozens of genetically impossible characters. I'm not talking about the male calicos n' such, b/c as we all know those cats are just trans of gender. I'm talking about the sheer amount of people I see trying desperately to find a way to make the genetics in Warriors make sense, which is a difficult journey and I admire them.
Now I'll say right now--I don't care if the authors bend the rules a little for their cat fantasy. I really don't. I think Warriors is far more interesting without a strict adherence to real life cat genetics. HOWEVER, the implications are interesting to think about.
Let me list some examples, just off the top of my head (pretty much all of these relate to the red gene, which is one of the only things I know with confidence about cat genetics, don't @ me):
Yellowfang is a pure grey cat, whose parents are both orange/cream-colored. Far as I'm aware, that's not genetically possible. Also that's not even talking about her father being cream-colored with ginger legs, but I'm gonna assume he's a chimera and not look into that too deeply.
Lionblaze is a golden tom despite the fact that neither of his parents have any red/gold/cream/whatever on them. Now, if Leafpool was a tortoiseshell or something along those lines, this would all be fine no problem. But she isn't, so I'm gonna say Hey What. (Also side-note but based on my very tenuous grasp of cat genetics, I think Hollyleaf is the only cat in that particular litter whose genetics actually make some sense??? Idk you could argue recessive dilute genes for Jayfeather ig but I'm getting off-topic)
Scourge's sister Ruby should be a tortoiseshell/calico, but she's depicted as taking after her mother and being pure silver. Yes I'm aware she's a minor character who only appears in one manga, but shut up. It's my theory and I get to cherry-pick evidence.
Firestar, iconic orange boy himself, genetically speaking would not be a red cat in reality, unless you take a lot of liberties there.
I'm not gonna go into researching this too deeply but I just want to say that I don't think it's realistic for there to be multiple almost exact clones of Tigerstar I running around, even among his own descendants. Like you're telling me his genes are just that fucking powerful huh. Okay.
On the note of impossible genetics, there are multiple cats described as having purple eyes. Heatherstar and Heathertail are both described as having eyes "the color of heather" and HEATHER IS PURBLE!!!! (note: I'm aware heather can be blue sometimes, hush)
Foxleap is bright fuckin' red when neither of his parents have those genes. Just throwing that out there.
Okay this is getting out of hand, I don't know enough about cat genetics to back up this point
ANYWAY PART TWO!! BEHAVIORS!!!
So I'm not a cat behavioral expert, I will say that right now. However, from what I have read and seen, there are a lot of typical kitty behaviors that are straight up removed from the book. I'm very aware that pretty much all of those are for the sake of making a good story and also making the characters more human for the audience, and also more child-friendly. Anthropomorphizing (in the sense of making the characters relatable to a human audience, not making them furries) an animal character for a child audience while retaining their natural instincts is hard! It can be done, but it's hard to strike a balance.
All of this to say that one time I read a rewrite of Warrior cats that someone did where they included a lot more natural cat instincts and behaviors and it was interesting to learn but also highkey kinda offputting in a lot of ways. So I see why the authors did this, but I am gonna say it supports my theory that's definitely completely legitimate.
Along this note. This is my least favorite part of this theory. But it supports my point the most probably idk-
Anyway the fact that accidental pregnancy happens as a recurring thing in this series tells me a few facts, all of which I hate and feel weird saying:
These cats do not have heat cycles of any kind and can just kinda reproduce whenever
These cats are uh. Ahem. Having Fun Times together whenever they fuckin want. Going to town. Good for them.
I'm aware this is another instance of anthropomorphism with the cats. I'm also gonna go ahead and say that these plotlines would not be possible unless something's a little fucky with these cats.
(Also honestly there probably just isn't sex ed of any kind in the clans, which I understand not including but also feels like a huge oversight.)
Okay I want to stop talking about this point so I'm moving onto my next point.
PART THREE!!!!! PERCEPTIONS!!!
I'm not the only person to have pointed this out, but cats in Warriors are treated like... pests, most of the time, except by people who actually own cats. Like there are so many instances of humans doing unspeakable horrific shit to the cats and it's just... really normalized, it seems?
Like there's a moment in the Greystripe manga arc where he and Millie find a farm owned by humans, and the humans immediately sic their dog on these two cats without fucking hesitation. There's a whole fucking book about Greystripe and Millie making these humans not think cats are scum of the earth who deserve to be mauled and slaughtered.
Which, sure, you can chalk that up to that one family being really fucking weird about cats. BUT THERE'S SO MANY MORE INSTANCES I CAN REMEMBER?
I don't remember where this shows up, so bear with me, but whenever cats and humans interact in Warriors, very rarely is it a positive experience for the cats, unless the humans happen to be cat owners.
So does this take place in some alternate universe where cats are seen as pests and considered strange or unusual pets? Asking for a friend.
Okay I'm running out of steam so LIGHTNING ROUND
I get that this is fantasy but it's interesting to me how many things that are straight up deadly to real cats are used as homeopathic medicine in this series.
I know this has been brought up by like everyone ever but the kits in Warriors being born with their adult eye color and also having their eyes open shortly after birth. That's not how it works in real life. These cats are weird.
The cats in Warriors are depicted as still essentially being young teenagers when they reach six months of age, which may be true on a social level but in reality cats at that age are nearly fully grown.
These cats' lifespans? Wack. I'll go ahead and accept that the fact that these cats have pretty good healthcare out in the wild means they're gonna live a long time, and also the timeline is fucky so idk how old any of these characters are anyway, but. Well okay this point had more ground to stand on when Mistystar was alive LMAO.
MAYBE THIS IS JUST ME but it's weird to me how easily characters are able to hide pregnancies just by masking their scents. Am I missing something? Because after a whole that's uh. Not something you can hide easily. (Once again: the clans have no sex ed.)
This isn't really relevant but I just remembered that Millie canonically speaks dog and it's brought up like once and never again and I just need to know how that's possible. What's happening here.
So what does all of this mean? Good fucking question. I think the most likely scenario is that Warrior cats takes place in an alternate universe and isn't intended, on any level, to be based on Our Reality That We Live In. Which, fair enough, but yeah.
Either that or the cats are aliens, which is a delightful prospect but I don't feel like trying to prove that.
Thank you for coming to my TEDtalk

I would like to ask for Jay, Lion, and Holly!
The beloveds! <3 Thank you so much for this ask. <3
Starting off:
Tumblr media
To nobody's surprise, I fucking adore Jayfeather. I'd say it stems from a combination of my natural affinity for asshole with a chip on their shoulder as a character type, the glaring flaws in how his story was handled being an alluring writing challenge, and just the fact that I find his presence on the page entertaining. I've had a lot of time to let my thoughts swirl and when writing about him I keep finding new and interesting angles for him. I love all his worst aspects from the bratty kid he started out as to the jaded adult he grew up to be and even with the way he played into stealing Dovewing's youth for the sake of the stupid ghost cats he hates so much. That's another interesting aspect of him actually, the way he's deeply misotheistic and yet still very committed to Clan religion. I want to strangle basically any time he says anything about Mothwing but at the same time I'm very appreciative of how he has this complicated relationship to the religion he was raised into and which has dominated his whole life. All in all, fantastic character start to finish.
Now onto his blander brother:
Tumblr media
I love the idiot blond perhaps a little too much. In canon, he suffers from being easily the most boring character on both arcs he's a protagonist of, particularly in Omen of the Stars when his chapters turn straight up painful to read. The Fourth Apprentice was so fucking dull outside the Jayfeather PoV chapters and while Dovewing's chapters did get much more interesting, Lionblaze's never really did. But as a character I get to write constantly considering my particular obsessions with sibling dynamics and my love for Jayfeather, the Lionblaze I portray is a surprisingly interesting character. I don't know what exactly I tapped into, I don't think I'm pulling this stuff entirely out of my ass, Scout has even complimented me on accurate characterization of him so I have someone backing me up on that. But I don't know, something about this fluffball that can go from endearing himbo to little monster fueled by anger and pent up aggression makes me want to write more constantly.
And finally:
Tumblr media
I feel like Hollyleaf is the sibling I have the weakest grasp on. In fact I'm planning on rereading Po3 soon-ish just to refresh my memory and try to really get her and understand what makes her tick. She's a really important balancing influence in the sibling dynamic with her brothers and she plays the extremely important role of being the brains (much as Jayfeather would like to think otherwise) and the initiative of the group. Her reaction to the parentage reveal is also extremely interesting and really cements her as a memorable character. And on a more personal note, I sometimes say she's my extremely niche representation what with the whole "wanted to be a doctor as a kid but realized they were too squeamish for the job and too uninterested in learning". Because of that I have a distaste for medicine cat Hollyleaf AUs that frame it as "Hollyleaf follows her dreams and gets to be happy". No, if you want to go for meddie Holly, I'd say a more realistic outcome would be her turning out to be the same kind of embittered asshole as Jayfeather. Just without the sarcastic edge or endearing smartass attitude. In fact, I think embittered asshole meddie Holly would enhance her breakdown and moral crisis.
