Another attempt at a Gohan polycule fic

Dende - Gohan and Dende couldn’t even say when they fell in love... they were friends, they are friends. Just they are also more? Was it when they held hands and danced in happiness? Was it when Dende was comforted by a gentle boy who risked all to save him from the monsters that had slain his family? Was it when Dende guided Gohan's new terrifying ki into kinder directions, and taught him healing and growth?Dende didn’t even really know he could feel romantic love, but his heart beating faster, the butterflies in his stomach... he’s biologically incapable of sexual attraction (though he remains curious) but romantic it turns out is very, very possible.

Lime - When Gohan, as ordered by his Mom and encouraged by Piccolo, Mr. Popo and Dende, goes back to visit Lime, he finds a good friend. Lime finds Gohan’s super strength useful (chores go much faster), more than anything else and is equally sanguine about going to the look-out to hang out with decidedly non-human persons or going to Gohan’s house and playing outside, board games, watching movies, or even playing some video games (Grandpa Ox picked a time when Lime and Dende were both over to bring the games and system, so Chichi didn’t say no outright. Good Job Gramps.) All three are more drawn to peaceful, gentle games, though Mario Cart has been played and their friendship survived the experience. They even got Chichi to play that one a few times. (those may have gotten a trifle more heated).

Lime herself thinks people being afraid of Gohan is silly. Sure, he could destroy the planet, but this is Gohan, who is the gentlest person she knows, aside from Dende now. Gentle just doesn’t mean push-over though (see defeating Cell and blowing up the shelter), though he won’t do anything about that awful Hercule man who has claimed Gohan’s victory. Lime encourages him to keep up his training along with his studies. The training didn’t need to be as mono-focused as his father’s was, but he could still do it as a way to remember his father and spend time with Piccolo. It also helps she finds to remind Gohan that while his father threw punches in joy and to protect, Gohan's punches can also be to protect and if not joy, duty, remembrance. It's a heavy load, but Gohan's been torn in two his whole life. Fighter or Scholar and never truly asked what he wants.

She may get into a bit of an argument with Chichi on this at one point, she’s barely fourteen and she knows it might not be her place but there isn't anyone else and the one person Gohan always forgets to fight for is his own self. So Lime will fight for him.  Gohan needs this outlet, and trying to force Gohan into one box or another (fight or scholar) is just asking for more trouble. Lime is pretty certain being raised to be "not like his father" and to not argue with his mother ever might have a lot to do with that buried anger.

Lime may also pick at him, sometimes. Let him know that getting mad at someone, having a difference of opinion, wasn't the end of the world.

Lime is aware she has feelings for Gohan pretty quickly and the soft way Gohan smiles at says that they may be returned, but he also looks at Dende that way. She's confused for a long time, but the idea of resenting sweet Dende, for loving Gohan and receiving that love just as she does seems foolush.(Lime has heard things, in the way teenagers seem to always hear things, and begins thinking about potential internet searches...

Erasa thinks Gohan is the cutest thing ever since Videl decided to wear her hair in pigtails, and delights in making him stutter and blush. She’s a little thrown when he mentions first his girlfriend and then later, a boyfriend. A casual question once she knows him better leads to a simple “Lime called it polyamory” and that’s that.

Largely what Erasa takes from that is that Gohan isn’t necessarily off the market. (She makes the mistake of implying that in a gossip session and Angela takes that as permission to pounce...poor Gohan.) She’s been tempted herself but would like to meet his other significant others first, (she researches polyamory like a mad woman, especially after spying Gohan's abs during gym class once.)and she’s unsure how Videl is going to go on this, the girl is fascinated by him, despite her claims to the contrary.  Erasa can read Videl easily after all these years. (And well, if Erasa likes Gohan and Videl likes Gohan, maybe, just maybe Erasa could be brave enough to finally tell Videl she likes her that way too.

Videl can't make heads or tales of Gohan at first and it drives her nuts. She's grown up in her father's world of strong and weak of strength being loud and admittedly obnoxious..

So who is Gohan? He seems so quiet and gentle, a nerd to nerd them all. But then he drops the "boyfriend and girlfriend bomb" and it just doesn't seem to fit with his "good boy" thing. Great Saiyaman actually helps, he is loud and obnoxious. Only instead of being boastful, he's just...helpful a bit dismissive of her she feels but a few sharp retorts from her and he backs off on that. He starts treating her as more capable, though never of the most dangerous things.

Finding out the secret and well. Blackmailing him, isn't her best move. Mostly because it puts her in the position of meeting Lime. Gohan's girlfriend. Gohan's extremely protective girlfriend who let's Videl know in no uncertain terms her opinion of both Videl and Videl's father. (It is not complimentary or short.)

Videl leaves without having leanred how to fly that day, but with a dose of humility, (Goten helped his big sissy Lime out by blowing up a boulder to show that tricks were not, in fact, tricks.)

She also has questions for her father, who Videl hopes will make this all make sense again...his evasions and the fact that he all but runs away makes her heart sink.

She texts one apology to Gohan for her dad...and then another for herself over the blackmail (Lime had had loud opinions on that front).

She also offers him the option of a verbal apology from herself at least if he would like, and the option for her to call a press conference to reveal her dads lies, but he texts back negative to both, but now freely offers those flying lessons. (Honestly, Videl realizes, Gohan is a sweet and kind person, she really should have just asked him for the lessons to begin with, no blackmail required.)

Lime remains guarded around her at first, but slowly softens and seems to accept that Videl is genuine in her contrition (and isn't quite the windbag her father is) and the two slowly begin to become friends.

The tournament is not what Videl had hoped for, she's beaten within an inch of her life in the first round, Gohan's energy gets stolen for some monster, and her dad evidently bribes his way to staying number one.

Thankfully Gohan and Goku manages to defeat the (from Goten's description) evil gumball that Babidi brought forth with everyone's stolen energy.  

Trunks and Bulma have withdrawn to capsule corp. to deal with Vegeta's horrid actions (after a quick find the dragon balls to fix the dead people it quest). Vegeta, after being defeated by Goku so he could return to aid his son, has vanished and is hiding his energy. Goku at least seems convinced that Vegeta won't be trying anything else and so most everyone leaves it alone.

Videl isn't certain precisely what is between her and Gohan, but from the way Lime wryly mentioned Gohan's protective rage and how he'd carried her to the infirmary himself... Videl feels hopeful. (She does need to meet Dende though, before anything else really, that's important.) Also get through the next bit at school, now that people knew Gohan at least had power...

Sharpner doesn't know what to do. Gohan was a nerd and nerds were weak and useless, only now nerds can turn out to be people who could beat Cell when they were freaking eleven. This did not make sense. The world did not make sense. Because if Gohan is the one who beat Cell, then Hercule didn't, he lied...and Gohan is super powerful and Sharpner calls him nerd boy, and kinda stalks him a little... (totally to keep him away from Videl, nothing to do with gentle black eyes, or a sweet smile or the way Gohan's shirts fit over his biceps...)

He feels maybe he shouldn't be too worried though, when Gohan apologizes to an empty chair his first day back and he knocks it with his bag. He's accompanied not only by Videl, but also a fiercely scowling brown-haired girl...

Goten would really want to go trick or treating and ofc Gohan is gonna go too, so he decides Dende should go with them cuz cmon this is something he should experience at least once. And obviously Dende agrees even if he doesn't fully get it, but he's thrilled to be a part of this. So now Gohan's gotta think of a costume for Dende cuz if theyre all gonna go then they should all dress up. And Dende's probably a little worried cuz he's like "um green skin is kinda hard to cover..." so Gohan's thinking of all these ideas like a ghost, a killer, or anything else to cover himself but then Trunks(he's going too) says "why doesn't he just dress like piccolo. That's easy enough." And Gohan first is like "i dunno Trunks...." but Dende's like "I dont see any harm in it, its just for fun, yeah?" And bam they then work to make this costume. Gohan mostly makes it his job to work on it, modifying his own clothes to fit Dende and whatnot, and it turns out super nice!! So now Dende's getting excited and he feels silly but in a good way and Chichi takes pictures of Gohan(hes a vampire), Goten(he'd be saiyaman like cmon yall), Dende, and Trunks(hes ghostface) all together and off they go. And though Dende didn't expect it, he gets A LOT of attention abt his costume. A bunch of 'Wow! That's amazing!'s and 'how did you make that??'s and all sorts of compliments on his king piccolo costume. He gets so giddy about it and it helps him get a lot of candy which he probably ends up splitting between the boys and its just...really fun. He's happy he was invited, and Gohan's happy he's enjoying himself so much. And the boys are happy they got double the candy. I think they'd all agree to do it again next year.

I think one rleationship that doesn’t get talked about a lot in the fandom is the one between Krillin and Piccolo. Now granted, most of it is a lot more subtle and in the background (and a majority confined to the anime) compared to Piccolo and Gohan’s bond or the Goku & Vegeta rivalry, but its there.

They have a unique friendship and understanding which fascinates me to no end. They started as hostile opponents in the 23rd tournaments, with Piccolo belittling Krillin constantly (likely due to his memories of Tambourine killing the guy). As the fight progresses, Piccolo even apologizes for calling Krillin a small fry and by the end of it its not Yamcha, or Tenshinhan or even Goku who makes Piccolo rethink on how easy the world is to conquer, but Krillin. And the little guy seemed to take to teaming up with the demon pretty well. They bantered and planned and worked well with each other during the Saiyan invasion. Krillin was specifically pointed out in both manga and anime to being shocked and surprised at Piccolo’s sacrifice for Gohan.

Then you have his general support of Piccolo on Namek and their perfect cohesion durin the Garlick Jr arc.

And of course the infamous “Come on, we’re friends, right?” moment during the Cell arc. It led to Piccolo exploding in rage and exclaiming he was still Piccolo Daimao and biding his time to take over the world and “RAWR GRR EVIL” before flying off.

And Krillin didn’t buy it for a second. He read the guy instantly. Then you had Piccolo taking charge of the situation when the Cell Juniors attacked. While the manga doesn’t show Piccolo at all during that segment, the anime ran with it and going out of his way to smack a Cell Jr. away from Krillin. Krillin screamed after Piccolo when he charged in to help Gohan during the Kamehameha struggle against Cell.

Then you had cute moments like Krillin praying he doesn’t get paired up against Goku or Vegeta during the tournament only for Piccolo to grin and remind him that he’s technically praying to Dende or Krillin cheering Piccolo on before his “fight” against Kaioshin (which I’m totally still not bitter over). Or when they both have to stop each other from going in to try and help Vegeta when he self destructs and Piccolo asking Krillin for assistance in showing the kids the fusion dance again.

I just...I dunno, I find their interactions and subtle friendship really endearing and fascinating, especially since you wouldn’t really expect them to have one.

Piccolo X Janet Gibslythe Ship Table

Big/Little spoon: Piccolo is used to sleeping alone and doesn't really care about being the big spoon every time. Though he does sleep better having Janet in his arms. And seeing as Piccolo is over 7 feet tall, Janet ain't being the big spoon.

Lends/Borrows clothes: Wouldnt say "Lends clothes" seeing as he can just make them. During one off their dates, the pair walked by a clothes store which had a designer coat Janet thought looked beautiful but the price was out of her budget. So, casually Piccolo just used his Magic Materialization (clothes beam) and BOOM! Janet found herself wearing the exact coat she wanted. So Janet got the coat she wanted and Piccolo got a passionate surprise kiss in return.

Doesn't/Does use pet names: Piccolo always uses Janet's name, not seeing the point in "Pet names". But Janet thinks it's cute and uses Pet names for Piccolo.

Introverted/extroverted: Piccolo has come to several parties and get-togethers, though he normally keeps to himself, only socialising with the Son family and Dende, so he's not a complete Introvert.

Janet is a teacher so she has had to meet new people and students. I can imagine Janet just befriending almost everyone of the z warriors/families and immediately getting on everyone's good side.

Affection through words/actions: Piccolo isn't a man of words and believes actions speak louder so he shows affection through actions. Be it hugging and kissing Janet, making her new clothes, taking a page out of Videl's book and getting her plushies.

Piccolo is a hard person to get gifts for, so Janet can't show affection through gifts but she knows just what to say. A surprise kiss every now and then also works, especially when it makes Piccolo go red, something Janet finds cute and hilarious.

Confesses first/Waits for confession: Janet decided to be the one to bite the bullet and confessed to Piccolo. Why not? She thought he was attractive, kind hearted, good with children, he was basically ticking all boxes. Piccolo wouldn't be the one to confess first seeing as he wasn't exactly sure what he was feeling, he also saw "love" as just a means for a species to continue existing through reproduction. Piccolo never expected to feel romantic love, one reason being he never met anyone who made him feel that way and the other being that Namekians were an asexual species.

Screams about/squashes bugs: Janet can handle bugs, depending on the size that is. Anything that can fit her palm is a bug she doesn't want to be in the same room as. Piccolo doesn't care about bugs but he doesn't really squash them, seeing as Janet asks Piccolo to get rid of it instead of kill it.

Drives the car/can't drive: Both can drive, but Janet is the better of the two and Piccolo is perfectly fine with Janet driving. And after getting his licence Piccolo can count the number of times he's driven with one hand. He just prefers to fly.

Can't cook/makes dinner: Demon King Piccolo? Nah. Grill King Piccolo? Yes. Janet and Piccolo are basically similar skill level in cooking, no pro chef but can make delicious foods.

Dislikes/loves PDA: Piccolo doesn't see the point, nor wants to advertise their relationship and love for one another. But he isn't completely cold in public, he'll hold Janet's hand and give quick innocent kisses in front of others. Janet on the other hand is more open, enjoying the cute reactions she can get from Piccolo is considerate enough to not push his boundaries.

Overprotective/chill going: Piccolo is protective of Janet, how can he not be? Janet isn't a fighter, hell she looks like she never raised a fist to another so Piccolo worries about her safety. Once Janet found out about Piccolo's life, about how he was this supposed protector of earth she can be a bit worried. She knows he's he's capable warrior but she can't help feeling worried for him whenever he fights.

Has more/no relationship experience: I can imagine Janet has caught the eyes of other people before meeting Piccolo. While Piccolo on the other hand has absolutely no idea what to do in a romantic relationship. (He actually went to Krillin and 18 for advice, he saw their relationship as a healthy one and could actually answer his questions)

Horny Level: Seeing as Piccolo is Asexual and lacks sexual organs, he doesnt get horny. But Janet does get horny and Piccolo understands that, he understands that most humans have urges so he does what he can to satisfy her, such as performing oral sex, using his hands or the toys Janet bought.

Awkwardness level: Once again Piccolo isn't entirely sure what he's doing, having never really been affectionate to others in the way that's expected in a romantic relationship, he can be awkward at times but Janet just finds this adorable and understands. The only time Janet felt awkward was the first time she was introduced to the rest of the z warriors/family. She was in the presence of martial arts masters, shape shifters, famous people, aliens, and Gods alike while she was just a regular old school teacher, but Burma, Chi-Chi and the other women made her feel at home.

Jealousy level: Neither get really jealous but once in a blue moon Piccolo wonders if Janet would be happier with a human than him.

EXAMINING VEGETA'S TORTUROUS TRAINING OBSESSION

GRAVITY TRAINING OBSESSION:

Vegeta became so obsessed with gravity training solely because he heard that Goku did gravity training during his 6 day space treck to Planet Namek during the Freeza Saga.

Contrary to DBZ filler, 300G was apparently too much for Vegeta before he could turn SSJ. So, the filler of him training under 450G is out of question. I say so because what we are shown of Vegeta's training in the manga is that he can't even stand in what is presumed to be 300G. As often was the case for Vegeta in DBZ pre-development, his ego was too big.

In reality, Vegeta in the original material could barely stand 300G a little better than Yamcha could in inaccurate DBZ filler.

This is why we see Vegeta training at 150G rather than 300G after that point. He appears to be able to handle 150G in base well enough to get a good workout. But, it's very unlikely that base Vegeta can handle 300G. He needs to turn SSJ for that.

DBZ Buu Saga: 150G's as a SSJ when training with Trunks.

DBZ Buu Saga: Possibly 300G's or more as a SSJ when training alone. Likely 150G's or a bit higher when in his base form.

DBS Beerus Saga: 150G's in his base form. And afterwards, he was sweating & exhausted.

Gravity training is what Vegeta is shown doing almost all the time. He did gravity training during the 3 years preparing to fight the androids, then continued to does so for the 7 years between the Cell Saga & the Buu Saga of DBZ. And around 4 years after the Buu Saga into DBS, Vegeta was still doing gravity training. So, about 15 years of constant gravity training in total.

TORTUROUS TRAINING:

Goku points out that constantly doing intense training isn't good for the body. Both the narrator & Goku go as far as to call overdoing training as "TORTURE."

However, we're shown that Vegeta constantly tortures himself in an attempt to exploit his Zenkai-Boosts because he doesn't understand how to properly train.

When Vegeta wasn't spending most of his time torturing himself in the Gravity Room, then he'd "train" by standing motionless out in the wilderness without eating, drinking, or doing anything for days while he let the harsh elements take a toll on his body; torturing his body in order to make it stronger (which negatively affected his mind, factoring into why he often used to ignore & neglect his family if it didn't have anything to do with his training).

In DB Chapter 365, Vegeta flew off in a huff. Later, it says 2 days then 3 days pass. In DB Chapter 366, {DBZ episode 147 & DBK episode 71} Trunks said that Vegeta stood in one spot for the past 3 days. But, when looking at context clues, it is more likely that Vegeta stood there for 5 days in total & Trunks was just around for the last 3.

In DBS Episode 15 & 16, Vegeta still "trains" by standing motionless for many days (possibly even a week or so) in harsh & dangerous weather when he isn't in the Gravity Room. Then, Vegeta returns to Capsule Corp. afterwards to wash up, eat, gravity training, repeat.

DIMINISHED RESULTS:

Vegeta kept attempting to exploit his Zenkai-Boosts, BUT there are limits to Zenkai-Boosts. After a while, Zenkai-Boosts stop as shown in the Buu Saga when Gohan didn't get any stronger after Dende healed him. And Gohan had way more potential than what Vegeta had.

Despite getting stronger from torturous "training" in the Gravity Room & building his durability by standing in harsh weather, Vegeta's gains aren't as great as could be if he trained properly.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GOKU & VEGETA:

Goku was a low-born outcast Saiyan raised as an Earthling martial artist who trained properly all his life to acquire his strength, becoming a prodigy. After barely managing to keep up with Vegeta during their first encounter, Goku managed to pull further ahead as time progressed due to knowing how to control his spiritual energy.

Vegeta is simply a natural born prodigy amongst Saiyans who only understood how to exploits his natural abilities for power in his attempt to be stronger than Goku again. Before begging Whis to train him, Vegeta had no teacher besides the bit of combat training he recieved as a child by Saiyans who don't know how to properly train.

This is why Vegeta's SSJ2 was significantly weaker than Goku's SSJ2 and he resorted to letting Babidi possess him just to catch up. Vegeta is in fact more gifted than Goku & he had trained harder, HOWEVER Goku knows how to train correctly to get stronger.

WHY KI CONTROL IS SO IMPORTANT:

Control of your ki is the best way to surpass your limits.

Just like all Saiyans before him, Vegeta mostly relied on his raw power & the Saiyan ability of physical transformation to surpass his limits rather than ki control. This is why Vegeta began falling behind Goku after their first battle.

And as Whis explained in DBS EP 16, Vegeta needed to learn ki control if he ever wanted to surpass Goku.

Once Vegeta learned advanced ki control from a godly being like Whis, he actually caught up to Goku's newfound power he acquired from becoming a SSG.

However, as shown in DBS EP 18, Vegeta STILL has the bad habit of over-training himself when he needs to be resting.

Meanwhile, Goku applied the Turtle School teachings of "resting well" & didn't torture himself unnecessarily.

Currently, in the timeframe of DBS: Super Hero, Vegeta has began to rest well & even began to meditate.

After about 20 years when he had his first serious battle on Earth, Vegeta is finally becoming a proper martial artists and going down the path of Budō.

EXTRA:

Vegeta's gravity training obsession was actually a Goku obsession. So, Vegeta training in the Gravity Room less in DBS is a sublte way to tell the viewer that he is becoming less obsessed with Goku & becoming more of an actual martial artist. However... He still trains almost all the time. It's just as Bulma & others like Freeza have said, Saiyans are battle-addicted.

I personally believe that Vegeta is physically stronger than Goku. One reason being that during the Buu Saga while base Goku trained with 8 tons on his body, base Vegeta trained in 150G which would make his entire body weigh 9 tons. However, Goku is far more adept when it comes to ki control & with using his ki to amplify his physical limits. Goku is also a much more skillful fighter due to his martial arts upbringing. DBS: Broly does a very job at highlighting the difference between how they fight. Vegeta was more about brute strength while Goku was more about skill.

Hypothetically, it's possible that Vegeta could turn SSJ3 now that he has trained under Whis, but such a stamina draining transformations is pointless since Vegeta has SSG & SSB. Also, Vegeta probably doesn't know how to transform into SSJ3 due to not needing it at this point.

Vegeta did have an outburst of anger when Beerus slapped Bulma, allowing his SSJ2 form to surpass Goku's SSJ3 form but, everyone gets a power boost through anger, even human characters. Krillin got one when Yamcha died & Tien got one when Chaozu died. It's not a Saiyan thing. It's a human emotion thing. And Vegeta becoming more "human" is what gave him this power boost. Well... that along with the fact that Babidi released Vegeta's potential beyond his normal limits which allowed him to reach greater hights than he normally could before. Also, the fact that Goku trained less when he came back to life because he began to work as a farmer. Meanwhile, Vegeta trained everyday & at times all day, allowing for Vegeta to gradually close the gap a bit between himself & Goku.

Vegeta stops abusing his body so much with gravity training in DBS. After he began training under Whis, the only instance I can recall of Vegeta training in the Gravity Room again was in DBS EP 51. (However, he & Goku do train in the Gravity Room together once in the DBS Manga Continuity after the Tournament of Power.) Instead, Vegeta began sparring more often. Training with Goku is beneficial to increasing both of their strength due to their Saiyan-Power (the natural Saiyan ability to grow stronger during battle). IF Vegeta & Goku still get Zenkai-Boosts, it's not very significant anymore. And the Zenkai-Boosts would apply for their current highest Saiyan form. But, Saiyan-Power is still a natural ability they still have to make them stronger.
