So for the bodyguard au wanted to make alternate designs for power ups based on incorporating them with shy guy masks and shy guy variants. Listen I will take any opportunity to make outfits for characters it is just so much fun!

Adding sketches on both how the mask works along with an example of a transformation sequence below the “keep reading” to avoid this post getting super long. Quick edit before I forget I do plan on an alternate cat (super bell) power up that leans more into the cat aesthetic. I just wanted to design a more stealth/field outfit for him. I also have drafts for a knight design for the metal power up! Those are coming later though.

So I wanted to work on the setup that power ups aren’t readily accessible in the Darklands (with the exception of fire flowers and maybe boo shrooms). To counter this I’m going with the concept of fusing power ups with masks so they can be used multiple times (think Majora’s mask).

Currently working with the idea of while this does make the power up a bit weaker, as long as the mask isn’t broken or removed from the user the power up will stay in effect.

Also on how shy guy masks work with different faces this just goes with my headcanon that there are different things under each shy guy’s mask. Varying from some shy guys just having a void that stares back to horrifying appendages and the masks just cover these so they can all blend in together.

The transformation sequence wouldn’t happen every time a mask would be used, but I will never pass an opportunity to draw Luigi break dancing. (Btw the reference for this sequence was Deboshir’s dance when he was going off against Zip Rock, break dancing competitions are super cool and I highly recommend watching them). Anyhow this is super rough, but I hope it gets the general idea across.

That prev post reminded me how much it weirds me tf out when someone only interacts with specific subsets of a minority group and learns their associated niche behavior patterns, and then tries to apply those patterns to every member of that minority that they meet afterwards only to be shocked when it doesn’t work.

i think toge would want to have kids so badly, but he's scared that his cursed speech would always be a barrier between them. despite kids delighting in his antics and crowing back his safe words like it's a secret language, i think the idea of having a child that looks at him with the same disdain his family does haunts him.

i also think yuuta adores the idea of raising a family and all that cheesiness, he daydreams of a child with lilac eyes and inky black hair with tiny hands that cling to their fingers. but he never wants to pressure toge, never wants him to doubt for a moment that he wants to spend his life with him.

the issue is that yuuta knows in the depths of his soul that toge was always meant to be a parent. even when yuuta was awkward and floundering around children in his first-year, toge seemed to embrace the role with a naturalness that none of them had.

gentle eyes and secret smiles, holding grubby little hands as if he didn't mind at all. sharing what little words he had to delighted young eyes that seemed to latch on to the depths of his heart immediately. they loved him, crawled on his legs and crowed in awe when even his lean arms could hold their dangling forms. it was a universal acknowledgment to leave the children to him and occasionally yuuji, though yuuta filled in that space as he grew older and more confident.

the first time he joined toge in babysitting a kid, it was a pair of little girls with bows in their hair and missing front teeth. yuuta shielded their eyes while maki and panda hacked at the curse in the playground, toge fixing the braids in their hair.

the way he brushed their hair back gently, tipping their heads to share a smile, answering their babbling with soft affirmations in his onigiri language, made yuuta's heart squeeze. he thought about silvery white hair spilling between his fingers, of dark blue eyes sparkling the way yuuta's does every time he looks at him.

but toge wasn't ready, and that was okay. he'd wait until his next life if that was what it would take.

until something unexpected happened.

a child of the inumaki clan was born, the cursed snake eyes and fangs adorning their tiny face.

their parents, non-sorcerers and nearly detached from the clan wanted nothing to do with her. gojo intercepted, and knew exactly who to approach. he played a little dirty, teleporting into their home where toge was waiting for yuuta to return with the child in his hands.

as much as toge was afraid of his own inability, he knew objectively that he was the best choice to raise a child with cursed speech. that's what he told himself, but the truth was that the moment he saw her sleeping face, he was besotted. gojo handling her into his arms, feeling the weight of her head on his shoulder, the wisps of white hair, the way her nose scrunched up, the little noises she made were enough to send his heart aching.

yuuta came in to the sight of toge's eyes tracing over her face, lilac eyes burning with emotion as gojo explained himself all over again.

toge tried to say that he understood if it was too much for yuuta, to raise a child that wasn't his own, one who had to have a unique childhood - but yuuta was already kneeling in front of him. eyes dancing between toge and the baby girl as if he couldn't decide where to begin and end.

"she looks like you," and his voice is choking with emotion, as if something like that was all he had ever wanted, "she's perfect."

she wakes up, as if sensing the spike in cursed energy, and her eyes are the milky blue of a newborn, with just a hint of the lilac they'll eventually fade into. unfocused but they sparkle just like yuuta dreamed about.

gojo takes his leave to get them supplies, and yuuta takes the fastest shower of his life. washing his hands twice afterwards. his fingers are pruny and his hair is still dripping the first time he brushes his fingers against her face. she turns into him and his heart just about stops.

he holds her for the first time on the floor of their living room. toge's feet are tucked under his thighs while he gently dries his hair and yuuta just stares at her.

it's a universal acknowledgment that yuuta is a girl dad, but walk with me on this because i physically cannot stop, toge is just as much of a girl dad.

their daughter's first language is in toge's safe words, she seems to understand him completely. the inumaki clan communicates with their hearts, and there's no one in this world that loves her more than her parents.

toge braids her hair and yuuta waits obediently while her clumsy fingers try to braid his shorter strands. toge gets a step stool so they can bake little treats for tea parties where yuuta will sit in too little chairs while toge tries not to laugh at his knees up to his chin. toge teaches her to be careful in her speech and wipes the tears away when she fumbles, the curses bounce off yuuta and her shiny eyes think he's invincible, forcing him to chase monsters away every night from under her bed.

it's the push toge needs to take a step back from being a sorcerer, it's motivation that makes yuuta finish his missions within seconds.

for a moment it makes them wonder how their own parents could have treated them so badly, to have their own that they'd burn the world for. but it doesn't matter, because she is so entirely loved by them and the aunts and uncles all around her. they deserve to be parents PERIOD !!

ugh i've been thinking about them for weeks i'm crying please please inuokko happiness PLEASE yuuta and his daughter look at toge with the same expression of absolute love and it one shot takes him out and it's what he deserves
