Los Angeles Clippers and Memphis Grizzlies Swap Lance Stephenson and Jeff Green
Tumblr media
On February 18th, 2016, the Los Angeles Clippers traded guard-forward Lance Stephenson and a 2019 first round draft pick (Matisse Thybulle) to the Memphis Grizzlies for forward Jeff Green.
The Memphis Grizzlies were always in search of a wing. The team had a trusted trio in center Marc Gasol, point guard Mike Conley and power forward Zach Randolph. But the team always seemed to lack a small forward that could space the floor, score and defend.
Looking to add talent, the Grizzlies acquired forward Jeff Green from the Boston Celtics in a three-team deal also involving the New Orleans Pelicans. The hope was that he could fill in that role as a scorer on the wing.
Green played 45 games after being traded to Memphis. He managed 13.1 PPG, 4.2 RPG, 1.8 APG, 0.6 SPG and 0.5 BPG in 30.2 MPG. Green quickly became a starter after coming off the bench initially. The Grizzlies continued to win after acquiring Green, taking 15 of the next 18 games to reach 41-14. Memphis was one of the top teams in the NBA, finishing the season with a 55-27 record.
In the 2015 playoffs, Memphis was in fifth place and battled the fourth seed Portland Trail Blazers. The Grizzlies had homecourt advantage because they had a better overall record than the Blazers (51-31).
Portland had numerous injuries going into the playoffs. Starting two guard Wesley Matthews was out for the season after rupturing his achilles tendon in early March. Trade deadline acquisition Arron Afflalo had a shoulder injury and stars LaMarcus Aldridge and Nicolas Batum had thumb and wrist ailments respectively.
The Grizzlies had an early double digit lead in the first quarter of Game One and led by as much as 29 points in a 100-86 win. Game Two saw Memphis hold the Blazers to 39% shooting in an easy 97-82 victory.
In the third contest, the Grizzlies continued to have control. Memphis led by double digits for most of the game, including 14 points late in the third quarter. Portland brought the deficit down to three points late in the fourth, but Memphis held on for a 115-109 win.
The Grizzlies took a 3-0 series lead but suffered misfortune when point guard Mike Conley had a facial fracture near his left eye in the game. He would miss the rest of the first round.
Memphis was headed to a sweep after taking a ten-point lead with 8:48 left in the fourth quarter of Game Four. Portland recovered, going on a 29-12 run to take the game 99-92 and avoid a sweep. In Game Five, the duo of Gasol and Courtney Lee combined for 46 points as Memphis won 99-93. In the five-game matchup, Green struggled, shooting 26.9% while averaging 9.2 PPG, 5.6 RPG, 1.6 APG and 0.8 BPG in 25.3 MPG.
The Grizzlies battled the number one seed Golden State Warriors in the next round. With Conley still out at the start of the series, Golden State took Game One easily 101-86. Conley returned for Game Two. He had 22 points as Memphis evened the series 1-1 with a 97-90 victory.
In Memphis, the Grizzlies got a combined 43 points and 23 rebounds from Randolph and Gasol in Game Three. They led for much of the game, winning 99-89.
Facing a 2-1 series deficit and MVP Stephen Curry struggling from the field, the Warriors regrouped, making an adjustment. Golden State had center Andrew Bogut defend guard and limited shooter Tony Allen. The move gummed up Memphis' offense, clogging the paint.
Curry had 33 points in Game Four as Golden State won in a 101-84 rout. The Warriors led by 17 points after three quarters in Game Five and held on for a 98-78 win. Curry had 32 points and 10 assists in Game Six as Golden State cruised to a 108-95 victory, eliminating the Grizzlies in six games. During the second round loss, Green managed just 8.7 PPG on 39.3% from the field, 4.0 RPG, 1.8 APG and 0.5 SPG in 28.6 MPG.
After Memphis' second round loss, the club added forward Matt Barnes in an offseason trade with the Charlotte Hornets. The Grizzlies also added center Brandan Wright as a free agent. Green had a chance to test free agency but exercised his $9.2 million player option to stay in Memphis.
The Grizzlies had a rough start to the 2015-16 season, dropping the season opener to the Cleveland Cavaliers by 30 points. Then, there was the 119-69 drubbing at the hands of the Golden State Warriors three games later.
The Grizzlies were just 3-6 after nine games but won 8 of the next 10 to rise to 11-8. Memphis hovered around .500 for much of the next month and a half before a 12-4 stretch brought the team to 31-22 at the All-Star break. Around that time, center Marc Gasol suffered a fractured right foot which would keep him out for the rest of the season.
With the 2016 offseason looming, the Grizzlies knew two key free agents in Courtney Lee and Green would be hard to re-sign. Instead of facing the prospect of losing both players, the Grizzlies dealt Lee to the Charlotte Hornets on February 16 and subsequently sent Green to the Los Angeles Clippers at the trade deadline buzzer on February 18.
Green was in and out of the Memphis starting lineup during 2015-16. The forward played in 53 games (31 starts), compiling 12.2 PPG, 4.5 RPG, 1.8 APG and 0.8 SPG in 29.1 MPG.
Green continued his routine of enticing teams with jaw-dropping athleticism and scoring ability but in the same breath frustrating them with below average three-point shooting and inconsistent play. His lack of outward passion frustrated teammates on the Grizzlies.
Memphis had a better net rating when Green was off the floor versus when he was on in both seasons. But still, Green did have his moments like a game-winner against the Phoenix Suns in December 2015.
youtube
In 98 games with the Grizzlies, Green contributed 12.6 PPG, 4.4 RPG, 1.8 APG and 0.7 SPG. In that time, the forward shot 43% from the field, 34% from the three-point line and 81% from the free-throw line.
Tumblr media
Lance Stephenson joined the Los Angeles Clippers when he was acquired in a trade with the Charlotte Hornets for Matt Barnes and Spencer Hawes.
Stephenson was coming off a disappointing season in Charlotte. It was the first season of a brand new three-year, $27 million deal with a team option in the final year. Stephenson failed to blend in with Hornets star Kemba Walker on offense and struggled.
With the Clippers, there was hope for him to resuscitate his career as a defender who could bring extra ball-handling and toughness to the Clippers rotation. If not, the Clippers could cut bait and move on.
Stephenson's acquisition was a piece of a Clippers retool around the edges. Core pieces like Blake Griffin, DeAndre Jordan and Chris Paul remained, but the Clippers tried to shore up the supporting cast. The team signed forward Josh Smith and guard Pablo Prigioni from the Houston Rockets. It also re-signed guard Austin Rivers and agreed to deals with Paul Pierce, Wesley Johnson and Cole Aldrich.
Initially, Stephenson started at small forward for the first nine games, but his minutes eventually started to wildly fluctuate. First, he played just one minute and 42 seconds in a win against the Detroit Pistons despite the Clippers playing without starting backcourt players Chris Paul and JJ Redick.
Stephenson then received a DNP-coach's decision from head coach Doc Rivers the next game against the Golden State Warriors. He played just under 19 minutes of action as a starter against Portland the next game. That would be his last start as a Clipper.
His minutes continued to fluctuate and he largely struggled with the Clippers, registering just 4.7 PPG, 2.5 RPG, 1.4 APG and 0.7 SPG in 43 contests and 15.8 MPG before he was traded at the 2016 trade deadline. The Clippers were 35-18 when they decided to trade Stephenson.
The deal happened minutes before the trade deadline, with Memphis and the Clippers swapping Green and Stephenson. The Clippers also sent Memphis a protected first round pick.
Tumblr media
After the trade, Green joined a Clippers team missing a star forward Blake Griffin. The All-Star was out with a partially torn left quad and a fractured hand. Green was set to help add depth to the frontcourt.
At 35-18 at the trade deadline, the Clippers went 18-11 the rest of the way to finish fourth in the West with a 53-29 record. Green appeared in 27 games (10 starts) and amassed 10.9 PPG, 3.4 RPG, 1.5 APG, 0.7 SPG and 0.9 BPG in 26.3 MPG.
Heading into the 2016 postseason, the Clippers were heavily favored in their first round matchup against the 44-38 Portland Trail Blazers. In the first game, Chris Paul had 28 points and 11 assists and Griffin had 19 points and 12 rebounds as the Clippers cruised to a 115-95 rout.
In Game Two, the Clippers bench outscored Portland's reserves 43-10 and pulled away in the fourth quarter to take a 2-0 series lead with a 102-81 victory. Neither team could make a shot from the three-point line in Game Three. Portland's duo of Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum combined for 59 points and forward Mo Harkless had two late baskets to help Portland win 96-88.
Game Four changed the entire trajectory of the series and Los Angeles' season. In the third quarter, Paul broke his right hand swiping down at a Gerald Henderson drive. Soon after, Griffin re-aggravated his left quad ending his season prematurely.
Portland pulled away in the game, outscoring the Clippers 32-20 in the fourth quarter. Portland won 98-84. In the fifth game, McCollum had 27 points and Lillard scored 16 of his 22 points as Portland pulled away late to win 108-98.
Despite missing Paul and Griffin, and facing a 3-2 deficit, the Clippers hung tough in Game Six. Portland never took a double digit lead. Late in the game, Clippers guard Jamal Crawford tied the game 103-103 after making two free-throws with 32 seconds remaining.
On the next possession, McCollum missed a runner, but Blazers center Mason Plumlee was fouled on an offensive rebound by Green and the Clippers were in the penalty. He made both free-throws. Crawford missed a floater with two seconds left and Plumlee rebounded the miss and was fouled again.
The Blazers big man split a pair of free-throws, giving Portland a 106-103 lead with two seconds left. With no timeouts left, Paul Pierce inbounded the ball to Austin Rivers who missed a desperation three as Portland held on for the win and eliminated the Clippers 4-2.
In six playoff games with the Clippers, Green mustered 10.2 PPG on 45.7% from the field, 3.2 RPG, 0.7 APG and 1.0 SPG in 26.5 MPG. In the 2016 offseason, Green became an unrestricted free agent and left the Clippers, signing a one-year, $15 million deal with the Orlando Magic.
Tumblr media
Stephenson was given more consistent playing time upon arriving in Memphis. Injuries befell the Grizzlies as center Marc Gasol remained out and point guard Mike Conley ended up missing most of the second half of the season with an achilles issue.
The Grizzlies limped to the regular season finish line, going 11-18 after the trade deadline to finish 42-40 and seventh in the West. Stephenson appeared in 26 games with the Grizzlies, managing 14.2 PPG, 4.4 RPG, 2.8 APG and 0.7 SPG in 26.6 MPG.
Memphis was decimated with injuries heading into its 2016 playoff run. With Conley and Gasol both out, the Grizzlies went into a difficult first round matchup with the 67-15 San Antonio Spurs.
Spurs forward Kawhi Leonard had 20 points and San Antonio used a 33-14 third quarter edge to put away the Grizzlies in a 106-74 rout. Game Two was similar. Memphis shot just 32.6% from the field and 13.3% from three in a 94-68 loss.
The series location shifted to Memphis. The Grizzlies had just 10 players available, but managed to have brief moments where they led. The Grizzlies won the second and third quarters after losing the first nine of the series. In the fourth quarter, both teams traded leads before the Spurs used a 7-0 run to gain control. Memphis stayed in the game but San Antonio hung on for a 96-87 victory.
In the fourth game, Leonard had 21 points and the Spurs put the game away with a 37-21 third quarter advantage. San Antonio won the game 116-95 and swept the Grizzlies in four games. In the four-game series, Stephenson was effective, averaging 13.0 PPG on 52.3% from the field, 1.5 RPG and 1.8 APG in 23.0 MPG. Stephenson had 26 points in the final game.
youtube
The Grizzlies declined Stephenson's $9.4 million team option for the 2016-17 season so they could free up some cap space in free agency. Stephenson became an unrestricted free agent and went on to sign a contract with the New Orleans Pelicans.
The first round pick the Clippers sent to Memphis was lottery-protected in 2019 and 2020. It would become a second round pick in 2022 if it was not conveyed in either of the first two years.
The rights to the pick were traded to the Boston Celtics for the 31st and 35th picks in the 2016 NBA Draft Deyonta Davis and Rade Zagorac. In 2019, the pick was 20th overall and Celtics selected forward Matisse Thybulle. On the same day, Boston traded Thybulle to the 76ers for the 24th pick (Ty Jerome) and 33rd pick (Carsen Edwards).

Jeff Green on joining the Clippers (via LA Times):
"I am going to a great situation. Having played two years with [head coach] Doc [Rivers] and knowing what he expects from his players is big."
On the Clippers roster:
"This is definitely a team with all the right pieces and a team that is going in the right direction. The only thing I want to do is win and that’s what it’s all about right now."
Lance Stephenson looking back at his most recent struggles with the Charlotte Hornets and Los Angeles Clippers (via Memphis Commercial Appeal):
"Certain teams, you just don't fit in. I've definitely got something to prove. I just want to get back to my old self, get back to playing in a rotation and helping my teammates win. God is good, so wherever He guides me, I'm going to try my best to figure it out."
On joining the Grizzlies:
"On this team, you've just got to play hard and be in attack mode. You don't have to think too much, you've just got to play hard."
Memphis Grizzlies general manager Chris Wallace on a busy trade deadline (via Memphis Commercial Appeal):
"The job of management is to straddle the line of getting the team to win in the short term and take care of the future. When you have as many unrestricted free agents as we did, you’re not going to be able to sign all of them. The idea was to get something without these guys being able to walk away for nothing."
Los Angeles Clippers president of basketball operations and head coach Doc Rivers on the trade (via ESPN):
"I really didn't know if the trade was done because I didn't want to look at my phone."
On Lance Stephenson:
"The guy was great, and guys really liked him. I was really happy with him as far as how he carried himself."
How he gave the go ahead on the trade ahead of a funeral service for Monty Williams' wife, Ingrid (via ESPN):
"I basically told Dave, 'Yes,' and walked in. "I really didn't know if the trade was done or not, because I didn't want to look at my phone. When the service was over I looked at my phone and saw that we had pulled a trade."
Clippers guard Jamal Crawford on the addition of Green (via LA Times):
"Jeff, with his size and athleticism, the way he slashes and can guard multiple positions. It definitely helps us."

How did Victor Wembanyama play in his NBA debut? The Spurs rookie overcame foul trouble to shine in a loss to the Mavericks
Tumblr media
On Wednesday, all eyes were on Frost Financial Institution Middle for the beginning of the Victor Wembanyama period in San Antonio. The 19-year-old's NBA debut was crammed with ups and downs. As at all times, there's more to the story than the numbers. And whereas Wembanyama's stat line won't essentially soar off the web page, it is worth taking a deeper dive into his efficiency.
How did Victor Wembanyama play in his NBA debut?
It did not take long for Wembanyama to make his presence felt on this one. In what may turn into a nightly affair, Wembanyama received the opening tip for San Antonio, who rapidly acquired the board first. On his first professional defensive possession, Wembanyama recorded his first professional layup, blocking Kyrie Irving's mid-range shot try. Wemby kicks issues off with the primary rejection in San Antonio 😤 Watch his NBA debut reside on ESPN #KiaTipOff23 pic.twitter.com/hs08jf333u — NBA (@NBA) October 26, 2023 Wembanyama was sharp early on, discovering Jack Collins and choosing up help. A number of possessions later, Wembaniama wasn't shy in any respect, arising quick on a pull-up 3, his first shot try of the night. As snug as he was on the primary try, it meant that Wembaniama's first NBA level got here from past the arc as he drained a 26-footer with help from Devin Vassell. Wemby from deep for his first NBA bucket ‼️#KiaTipOff23 | Stay on ESPN pic.twitter.com/9ZgyoRdSC4 — NBA (@NBA) October 26, 2023 With less than two minutes left in the first quarter, Wembanyama hit a second 3-pointer. 68 seconds later, he picked up his second foul of the night. MORE: What are affordable expectations for Victor Wembanyama in his first 12 months? After picking up his third and fourth fouls early within the second half, Wembanyama was compelled to sit down out the ultimate 8:37 of the fourth quarter. He returned to begin the fourth, returning to the bench 26 seconds into the body after choosing up his fifth foul. Wembanyama will sit for one more 4 minutes before returning to the sport. Because, it seems, the final seven minutes of the sport were all that the No. 1 seed wanted for promotion. After placing his wingspan on display with a formidable alley-oop end, Wembanyama reached double figures with a face-up 3-pointer, a reminder that his mixture of dimension and ability is something however pure. 5 fast factors from Wemby minimize Dallas to 2 📺: Spurs-Mavs ESPN Stay | #KiaTipOff23 pic.twitter.com/p4CMd7si32 — NBA (@NBA) October 26, 2023 Two possessions later, Wembanyama led the Spurs by way of contact and introduced his whole team to fifteen factors at night. After scoring six factors within the first three quarters, Wembanyama wanted less than three minutes to play so as to add nine to his tally. MORE: LaMarcus Aldridge explains Wembaniama's blueprint for achievement
Takeaways from Victor Wembanyama's debut
Total, the most important takeaway from Wembanyama's debut is that regardless of the foul bother, he is an expert who may nonetheless discover methods to impression a recreation. It was a perimeter-heavy display for the rookie, who went 3-of-5 from past the arc and 3-of-4 from 2-point range. It might appear unusual; however, Wembanyama has an enclosure-based recreation. Defensively, the impression is there, so long as he can keep away from fouling. It was no secret that Wembanyama had all of the instruments; however, he also had the IQ to make a far better impression defensively than a typical standout rookie. Wembaniyama has been known as a unicorn and an alien; however, his NBA debut is a reminder that he's certainly human. A teen then. A number of the nerves concerned about enjoying such an event undoubtedly had a hand in his foul trouble and rookie errors on the play. He did not break the file; however, Wembaniama's first recreation marked the start of something particular in San Antonio and the NBA. His late arrival is the most important reminder that he will likely be okay; it doesn't matter what adversity comes his way. #Victor #Wembanyama #play #NBA #debut #Spurs #rookie #overcame #foul #bother #shine #loss #Mavericks Read the full article

Or the Nets could use a small-ball style with Simmons in the middle. That does mean they will need Nic Claxton to step up at center. The Nets did not bring back most of the veterans – LaMarcus Aldridge, Blake Griffin and Andre Drummond – that could not win a game in the postseason, but they needed to move on. Cam Thomas heads into just his second season looking like a reliable scorer. Patty Mills played well even in a disappointing season for the team. Seth Curry brings the same range shooting (also 43.9 percent in his career).
Elsewhere brooklyn full#
The Nets also like to point out that Joe Harris and his career 43.9 percent 3-point shooting (47.5 percent in his last full season), will be back and can bring what they would need most on the floor with Simmons and Irving. Solomon: Watching Federer left indelible imprint on memory bank His playmaking and defense can elevate a team with the Nets’ weapons. But the Nets can still score easily without Simmons' shooting. He is coming off back surgery and did not play at all last season. If Ben Simmons, the key to the haul brought back when the Nets sent Harden to Philadelphia, gets back to his Sixers best, he could be a nice fit with Durant and Irving. The Nets were swept out of the postseason, but Irving remains among the league’s most irrepressible offensive talents. The Nets could find that they are shopping a rare Bugatti worth an untold fortune but with few buyers able to meet a fair price.ĭurant also might find he can win more with the Nets than elsewhere, especially if another team must give up a star and more to get him. But the Rockets used their best asset to restock their shelves of picks, an option that the Nets could consider, too). Similarly, the Nets could be hesitant to start from scratch since they owe so many first-round picks elsewhere, as with the Rockets and their draft pick debt to the Thunder. (The Rockets tried to talk themselves into that logic with Harden, only to relent and deal him to the Nets nine games into the 2020-21 season. The Nets understandably could be determined to hold on to him at least until they get offered that rich a return.īut if he does get to camp and things fall into place, the Nets could be back on a contending level, which could convince him to stick around. With four seasons left on his contract and talent that remains on an MVP level, Durant should bring record-setting trade treasures. Other teams seem to be showing they will let the Nets take that chance.Ī month since word spread that Durant wants out for reasons that he has not shared publicly despite his social media skills, the stalemate seems headed for a breaking point. Rather than coming up with a deal to move Durant, they seem to prefer to show teams they are willing to bring him to camp and put up with whatever displeasure he might have with still being in Brooklyn. Before they can get too far into the latest effort to be the super team they thought they’d become when pairing Durant with Kyrie Irving – and adding James Harden for a brief time – the Nets seem to be playing chicken. His desire to move on again has thrown the Nets’ future and chances into a state of limbo. Kevin Durant is that enormously important to any team he joins, at three and counting. The one certainty in Brooklyn is little can be considered certain. Or they might belong somewhere much worse. The Nets could deserve a much better ranking. So long: C/F LaMarcus Aldridge, G Bruce Brown, G Goran Dragic, C Andre Drummond, G David Duke Jr., F Blake Griffin. Welcome back: C Nic Claxton, F Kessler Edwards, G Patty Mills. Warren (free agent), G Edmond Sumner (free agent), G Alondes Williams (two-way contract). The countdown of the teams expected to make the playoffs (no play-in): 8. The Jazz’s rush to emulate the rebuilding process of the Thunder and Rockets has not got around to a deal to ship out Donovan Mitchell, but that could happen, too.įor now, with enough complete, it seems time to consider the way the deals that have been completed have changed the NBA power structure, from the champion Warriors’ changing out role players to the runner-up Celtics bringing in reinforcements to the annual Lakers’ drama in an effort to keep up with the resurgent team down the hall. Russell Westbrook is still in Los Angeles, though the Lakers perhaps would prefer if he was not. With summer league complete and front offices generally heading to beaches and golf courses – albeit with cell phones at the ready – things generally get quiet.īut Kevin Durant is still with the Brooklyn Nets, though he would rather not be.

The draft came and went, followed by the usual free agency transformation of rosters, along with a healthy number of trades. The predraft process, complete with its trade talks and roster decisions, ended. This is normally the slow period and still could be.

Nba 2k18 best center build
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
That won’t stop complaints from players and fans alike, so if you have thoughts on who is too high or too low, let us know below. There will be arguments for placement of players, and who should be higher or lower, but for the most part it seems as though the ratings gurus at the 2K Sports office did well here. That list looks, overall, pretty much right. (Note: Devin Booker’s rating was listed at an 86 on his player release, but an 85 on the top shooting guards list, so there is a minor bit of confusion there.) McCollum each at an 86.Andre Drummond, and LaMarcus Aldridge round out those at an 85 overall. Six players just missed the cut of the top 30, with Joel Embiid, Kemba Walker, Andrew Wiggins, Kristaps Porzingis, Devin Booker, and C.J. In total, there are only 14 players in the game that earned a 90 overall or better - which might make John Wall feel a little better about his 90.īased on the information we have and each positional list going to at least an 86 overall, despite full ratings still not completely revealed, we can confidently deliver the Top 30 players in the NBA, according to NBA 2K18. Giannis Antetokounmpo sliding into the league’s 10 best players is probably the one that will turn the most heads, alongside the mercurial and polarizing DeMarcus Cousins in the 7th spot at a 92 overall. The game released with mixed reception, and it was criticized for the slow pace of the single-player mode, as well as poor drops from the card packs.Which current players rank as the Top 10 highest rated in #NBA2K18? Here you go… /3wGjpNnsem The player has to fill up a roster of these stars through different packs within the game, which come from game modes throughout NBA Playgrounds. Originally created with similarities to games like the NBA Jam or NBA Streets, NBA Playgrounds is designed to primarily be an arcade basketball game, holding a roster from both active as well as former NBA stars. This all started in the twenty-tens, although if some of the more recent NBA 2K games are anything to go by, looks set to continue for the foreseeable future. It does have a darker side too, however, with aggressive microtransactions having stained the series' reputation in recent years while also contributing to some of the worst Metacritic user scores of all time. Many NBA 2K21 players won’t use this build, but we can guarantee that the paint beast is a great build and, perhaps most importantly, one that’s wildly fun. It's been a dominant force in the genre for more than two decades now and is responsible for much of the innovation found in modern basketball games. I'd imagine almost any build is fun with the exception of Post Offense. Pretty fun and easy to run with randoms because you kinda rely on yourself for putbacks and break starting. Updated Jby Tom Bowen: When it comes to basketball games, few can compete with 2K Sports' NBA 2K series. Max everything cept 322 slashing rebounder makes a good case. With that in mind, here are all of the NBA games of the twenty-tens, ranked from worst to best by their Metacritic ratings.

With so many of them having been released over the years, however, it's only natural that there are some 2K NBA games that are better than others. RELATED: NBA 2K: Ridiculously Big Rating Drops Between Games Thankfully, the NBA 2K video games allow any fan to play basketball at any time whenever they please, as it tries to simulate the real-life experience as closely as possible. This is because some basketball matches can often take a while to schedule, and this has been especially true over the last few months. However, there have been occasions where someone wouldn't be able to watch a game. NBA games have been popular for a long time, as many gamers also enjoy basketball-contrary to popular belief.

BROOKLYN NETS ROSTER FOR FREE
BROOKLYN NETS ROSTER FULL
Neither is worth a roster spot for a team with legitimate championship aspirations. Brooklyn Nets scores, news, schedule, players, stats, rumors. It’s time to let Aldridge and Griffin walk. It’s crucial that the Nets’ front office resist the temptation to placate their stars by signing big-name players to guaranteed contracts.
BROOKLYN NETS ROSTER FOR FREE
The good news for Brooklyn is that both are headed for free agency. Their starting lineup would likely feature a backcourt of Russell Westbrook and Marcus Smart. LaMarcus Aldridge and Blake Griffin were big names on the Nets’ roster this season but they weren’t useful players for Steve Nash and his coaching staff once the postseason arrived. Overall, this roster for the Brooklyn Nets has a combination of star power and depth. Here are five things the organization needs to do this offseason. Now it’s time for the Nets front office to focus on fixing the roster’s deficiencies to make Brooklyn a real postseason contender next year. Irving’s lack of availability due to COVID regulations also played a role in the team’s choice.
BROOKLYN NETS ROSTER FULL
Brooklyn’s full Summer League roster and schedule can be found below. The team’s midseason decision to send James Harden to Philadelphia in exchange for Ben Simmons made it clear their original plan wasn’t working. The roster includes Brooklyn Nets guards Cam Thomas and David Duke Jr., forward Kessler Edwards and center Day’Ron Sharpe. Moreover, the Nets didn’t even make it to the playoffs with their star power intact. Instead of achieving postseason glory with that trio, Brooklyn bowed out of the playoffs without a single victory over the Celtics. What can Brooklyn do to strengthen their roster this offseason?Īt the start of the 2021-22 NBA season, the Brooklyn Nets were expected to run roughshod over the Eastern Conference behind the star-studded triumvirate of Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden. The Nets season is over after an ugly 4-0 sweep at the heads of the Celtics. Assuming Kevin Durant remains on the roster into the season, a reunion between Irving and the Nets always made the most sense, as the 30-year-olds value is. Here is the Nets’ position, age, height, weight, pre-draft team, draft status, and nationality you need to know.NEW YORK, NEW YORK – APRIL 23: Kevin Durant #7 and Kyrie Irving #11 of the Brooklyn Nets look on in the final seconds of their 109-103 loss against the Boston Celtics during Game Three of the Eastern Conference First Round NBA Playoffs at Barclays Center on Apin New York City. Steve Nash is the head coach of the Brooklyn Nets basketball team since 2020. Who is the current head coach of the Brooklyn Nets? Wenyen Gabriel is the worst starter for the Nets plays averaging 1.3 min in 1 game averaging no points are scored, and it is also his fewest minutes with the team in the league. Kevin Durant has played thirty-nine games in the league averaging 36.6 min and 29.1 points the most and Patty Mills averaging 30.2 min with 12.6 points in 65 games lead as the second starter for the Nets. Nets change their starting lineup often depending on players’ injury, worst performances, or some undisclosed reasons. Who is the starting 5 for the Nets today?īruce Brown Jr., Seth Curry, Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and Andre Drummond are the five active Nets starters for the 2021-22 season’s current game today. Here are the Brooklyn Nets’ common questions and answers about the Nets starting lineup, starting five, who plays most matches, minutes, points, rebounds, assists, and more of the 2021-22 NBA season.

6 of the top remaining 2022 NBA free agents
LaMarcus Aldridge, Brooklyn Nets, unrestricted 2021-22 stats: 12.9 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 0.9 apg
You probably forgot about Aldridge because the 36-year-old didn’t play a second of Brooklyn’s brief 2022 postseason run. But the man can still go (not as fast as we’ve seen in the past), and he remains almost automatic in the post and in the mid-range. Aldridge shot 55% from the field last season, and he’s still hungry to capture his first title after 17 seasons.
Carmelo Anthony, Los Angeles Lakers, unrestricted 2021-22 stats: 13.3 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 1.0 apg
We hear quite a bit about the need for teams to keep around veterans to teach young players the ropes similarly to the way Miami uses Udonis Haslem. It’s an added bonus when that vet can help teams win games, which is exactly what we’ve seen from Anthony in his last two stops. Over the last three seasons, the 38-year-old has shot 37.5% or better from 3-point range.
James Harden, Philadelphia 76ers, unrestricted 2021-22 stats: 22.0 ppg, 7.7 rpg, 10.3 apg
UPDATE: James Harden and the 76ers have reportedly agreed on a two-year, $68.6 million deal. Harden made the move to take less in what’s expected to be a shorter deal to give himself more flexibility as well as the team, which is working to improve a roster that already features 2022 Kia MVP runner-up Joel Embiid.
Montrezl Harrell, Charlotte Hornets, unrestricted 2021-22 stats: 13.1 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 2.0 apg
It’s wild to think Harrell has played for three teams since 2020, when he won Kia Sixth Man of the Year with the LA Clippers because his play certainly hasn’t fallen off, not to mention the big man is just 28-years-old. Harrell’s future could be somewhat in doubt, as he’s facing a felony drug charge stemming from a traffic stop last month.
Dennis Schroder, Houston Rockets, unrestricted 2021-22 stats: 13.5 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 4.6 apg
Played 49 games for the Boston Celtics last season, before moving on to the Rockets in a trade. Schroder appears to be another player likely sitting in limbo until something happens with Durant. The speedy 28-year-old could be a fit for several teams looking to add depth in the backcourt. Given the youth movement currently taking place in Houston, it’s unlikely Schroder re-signs there.
Collin Sexton, Cleveland Cavaliers, restricted 2021-22 stats: 16.0 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 2.1 apg
It’s likely Sexton is returning to Cleveland, as there appears to be a desire from both sides to get a deal done. The 23-year-old played just 11 games last season before suffering a torn meniscus that forced him to miss the rest of 2021-22. Sexton averaged 20-plus points in the two seasons prior to 2021-22. So, while Darius Garland has emerged as an All-Star, there’s still room for a scorer like Sexton.
