this uh. this got out of hand and turned into more general thoughts on what being with him is like. you're welcome.

Kuni doesn't really know what he's going to do in the long term for a while after he takes you. It's kind of a spur of the moment thing. He's been alone for the vast majority of his life, and here reader is, kinda small and weak and helpless (in comparison to him, anyway.) After he sees how far you went for Sanad, (even after how, in his eyes, Sanad betrayed you) he wants some of that for himself.

It's not like you can beat him anyhow. So, he figures he'll keep you hidden down there with him. The first thing he needs to do is find a more long-term solution to keeping you with him... repeatedly breaking an ankle is bound to cause some serious health issues, and he's worried you'll get desperate enough to try to escape anyway. You probably wouldn't survive it, but that would still mean you wouldn't be with him, and he doesn't want that.

So he drops you off at the back of the canyon, finding a place to keep you hidden just in case anybody else enters the canyon while he's gone. After that, he goes out looking for supplies (he commits 2nd-degree murder and robbery) with which to keep you and care for you. He finds some rope, so now he knows how he's going to make sure you don't go anywhere when he's gone. After that... he tries to figure out what all a person would need. Food? He has a bag of what other humans eat, so that should be good. Water? Took their canteens. There's also water at the bottom of the canyon. (He doesn't see anything wrong with this.) Uh, clothes? You should have some in your pack, right? He kinda just grabs whatever seems appropriate, and brings them back. You end up having to tell him if you need anything. He has a bit of a learning curve, and though he'll poke at you for being weaker than him, he pays attention and learns quickly.

He didn't like leaving the canyon before, and that's no different now. When he's gone (which is for a few hours every time either of you need anything) you're tied up and hidden in some little corner of the canyon. For better or worse, the vast majority of the time he's around you. The only real upside to this is that he doesn't have to leave you tied up often.

He keeps a collection of interesting things he steals. A few shiny things, but mostly things like mechanical puzzles and toys and the occasional doll. Anything that catches his interest, he'll bring with him. If you want to look around his collection, he'll let you touch most of the things he has as long as you promise not to break them. Break anything, especially intentionally, and you lose this privilege. He'll also be very upset.

Some things in his collection, he isn't sure what they are. It's natural. He hasn't been anywhere near a human society in far too long. He'd appreciate it if you could explain what they are, and he will remember it too.

The only things he won't let you touch are his dolls. He doesn't want you to see them either, and he'll forcefully brush you off if you find them and ask about them.

He's fluent in the ancient desert languages and can speak and read them. If you come across anything and ask him to read it for you, he will, but he might extort a kiss from you first. He can, obviously, also speak the modern common language, but he can't read it, so he doesn't have much interest in books today. Until you request them, of course, and he brings back a few.

He watches you read, and he gets bored. It's not long until he starts asking questions about the book, and then he asks you to read to him. A good deal of your free time (which you have a lot of) is spent laying on his chest, reading whatever book he recently brought back for the both of you. He doesn't say it, but he's very attached to this little pastime.

Teasing him is fun. It makes him turn pink and sputter out some sharp excuse or minor insult, but if you take it too far, he'll turn it back on you. He's kind of like a feral cat, honestly.

This is Mythomorphosis from 2004. It was a commissioned piece for the daughter of a friend.

I was trying out a lot of different things at once in this piece - patterns, textures, color combinations, blending techniques, elements to try to tie the composition together. The colors still jar a bit, even with the unifying watercolor background that tried to keep them all together.

The naga's forward arm drives me crazy. It's not super-skinny, but it reads that way because of the separation of colors. If I'd worked more of the light gold into her arm, or more of her skin tones into the gold ribbons, it would have worked. Nearly twenty years later, though, there's not a lot I can do besides learn from the mistake!

I used watercolor and Prismacolor pencils on this piece.

Then I think Aru and Marshall would fuck shit up. The world is not ready for them together.

Rosalind and Aiden. There is a half-written post in my drafts about how similar they are to each other. They would get along really well. I also think that Rosalind would be very wary of Rudy and they could talk about him together.

Phoebe and Brynne as best friends or worst enemies. There is no in between. I can also imagine Orion and Brynne being friends (they are strong™️)

I can see Alisa, Phoebe, Sheela, and Nikita playing the annoying girl game too.

Juliette wouldn’t like Aru or Brynne I have a feeling in my soul. Roma doesn’t like them because Juliette doesn’t like them
