Okay..I got a little carried away there. Let’s talk about this photo a bit. Okay first off, Jason is so short it’s making me want to put him in my pocket. His hair in this movie never fails to make me laugh but also get on my knees and beg for him to notice me.

Secondly, Owen Wilson is looking pretty cutesy here..I mean he in the whole time but like he’s looking extra yummy in this movie. Smash.

perhaps it was Lana's decision as director, maybe I'm mistaken and things that I feel were missing would just have made the story repetitive / I watched a ton of Lana’s interviews when the movie came out because I found her really interesting and she very specifically said she did not want it to be a Wikipedia page, list of events and accomplishments. It wasn’t meant to be a typical music documentary/career retrospective they just wanted people to have enough context to understand Taylor’s emotional journey. Lana’s style is mainly just verite films she’s just filming moment in a persons life and seeing in what happens. They went into filming knowing this would be about Taylor negotiating approval and fame as she re-entered the public eye. Lana also directed the new Brooke Sheild’s documentary which is in two parts and it is closer to a career retrospective but it’s about sexualization and exploitation as a child actor and how that effected her life, so it kind of had to go into all of that narratively.

Thanks for your message. I agree with and understand most of this. I read and liked Lana's press, but I have to be honest and say I don't remember details so i appreciate you messaging. I didn't necessarily want a list of accolades or a biography and I think they covered her general rise to 1989 level peaks very succinctly. I just feel like there's something missing. I don't mean it in any kind of accusatory way, I love the film and it must be tough to pick from everything they had available. As I said, trying to include too much can be detrimental in terms of focus.

The only thing where what I think differs is that I thought Lana said she didn't have a preconceived idea of where the story would go, just that they would follow her as she toured and prepared the next album. That's a minor point though, because even with that, there's a wide range of topics that could have ended up being their focus.
