Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light - Xoloti’s Stronghold:
“Last level in the game and it’s our main bad guy, Xoloti. I’m surprised at how easy this fight is. There’s some annoying boss fights in the game, so I was pleasantly surprised that this one was easier than some of them, and even fun.”
PS: the gameplay used for this gifset is not mine. The original video belongs to the user: MP, on Youtube.

25th Anniversary Tomb Raider Reimagined Box Art Prints
In celebration of 25 years of Tomb Raider, fans were given the opportunity to purchase the set of 15 prints of the reimagined box arts. They were created by legendary artists from around the world, such as Andy Park, Adam Hughes and Brenoch Adams and were released digitally throughout the year 2021, depending on the game's celebratory month. Each print is 11x17 inches, on uncoated stock paper.
As described on the Square Enix item listing page: 'Artists were chosen to ensure a diverse array of styles and were given full freedom to reimagine the box art, resulting in Lara Croft portrayed in comic, anime, whimsical, realistic, and surrealistic styles. No matter the genre or medium, as a pop-culture icon of 25 years Lara Croft is instantly recognizable throughout the art series'.
The proceeds from the sale was given to the charity, 'Girls Make Games', a cause that encourages more females to get into the games industry. This item went on sale on Lara's birthday in 2022, 14th February, and although it was planned to run for three weeks only, it was extended to a whole month, ending on 14th March. The prints were finally dispatched to customers on 12th May '22.
The sale was a print to order listing, so there is no leftover stock, and the window to purchase it from the official SE store is over. People have wasted no time in reselling them. On eBay, there are listings in the USA and France, with values of over $200 and €200.

Gaming and Misbehaving: Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light
Gaming and Misbehaving: Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light A superb Co-op game that's at its best when you're failing to be co-operative. #gaming #Coop #Multiplayer #blogpost #schenanigans #laracroft #tombraider #oldpost
Tomb Raider has always been a relatively sensible series. The odd magic item or mythical monster aside, the franchise is one that wishes to be taken seriously. We play these games for a more level-headed kind of fun. Well, there’s one place where Lara Croft can go to be silly… Last week I addressed the way in which I ‘misbehaved’ whilst playing Dishonored, taking the game (and myself) to a much…

Note
I can't find the template in the FAQ, so here's a route submitted this way: Raziel from Soul Reaver has a Ryu number of 2. Raziel (Soul Reaver) -> appears in Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light DLC, where Raziel replaces Lara using the DLC -> Lara Croft appears with Ryu in Brawlhalla. Alternatively, Raziel (Soul Reaver) -> in Tomb Raider: Legend, the Soul Reaver blade (Raziel is in the blade) is given to Lara when completing the game -> Lara Croft appears with Ryu in Brawlhalla.

Thank you for the submission!

Cheetara: Guardian of Thundera's Beauty by Jade Gretz
In the heart of Thundera, beneath the towering spires and amidst the ancient ruins, Cheetara stumbled upon a forgotten chamber. Dust danced in the air as she cautiously entered, the flickering light of her torch revealing an abandoned study. Scrolls, artifacts, and an old desk adorned the room, but what caught her eye was an ancient journal. The worn leather cover bore the emblem of Tygra, the once-mysterious Thundercat whose past remained shrouded in enigma.
Curiosity ignited, Cheetara reached for the journal, its pages whispering untold tales. As she delved into Tygra's penned words, she discovered a cryptic language, a mixture of Thunderian symbols and arcane runes. The more she deciphered, the clearer it became – Tygra had left a trail, a breadcrumb path through his past, daring someone to follow.
The entries spoke of forgotten realms, celestial phenomena, and encounters with beings beyond Thundera's understanding. Tygra's words hinted at a cosmic ballet in which Thunderians were unwitting participants, each movement dictated by celestial forces. Intrigued, Cheetara embraced the quest to unravel the threads of Tygra's existence.
Her journey led her across Thundera, from the deepest caverns to the highest peaks. Along the way, she encountered challenges that seemed tailored to test her agility, speed, and intellect. These trials, it appeared, were set by Tygra himself, a posthumous legacy crafted for those who sought to unearth his secrets.
In the city's archives, Cheetara discovered ancient texts that shed light on Tygra's studies in arcane lore. He had delved into the forbidden, seeking knowledge beyond the grasp of ordinary Thunderians. The more Cheetara learned, the more she realized Tygra's connection to an otherworldly realm, a dimension that bordered the edges of Thundera's reality.
The journal led her to a hidden sanctuary, where Tygra had communed with celestial beings. In a moonlit clearing, Cheetara performed a dance taught by the spirits, unlocking a vision of Tygra standing at the cosmic crossroads. He conversed with ethereal entities, negotiating the fate of Thundera in exch …(see the rest of the story at deviantart.com/jadegretzAI). If baldurs gate was a third person rpg, I would eat that shit up.
But I can’t stand turn based games, I’ve never liked them, and frankly I don’t see the appeal.
And top-down isometric, like Diablo and WoW, is the only player view that triggers disorientation + migraine.
This isn’t me being over-dramatic, it’s the goddamn truth.
I tried playing Lara Croft: Guardian of Light, because I desperately wanted to play something new as Kain and Raziel, but as soon as there’s more than one character on the screen at any one time, the disorientation hits, my field of vision fractures and then snows and that’s it.
Migraine pain city , dark room and sick bucket here I come.
I can’t even play isometric for Kain and Raziel. If you know me, that’s torture, you know how much I love those characters.
If the game’s industry decides to favour that over third/first person rpg/action adventure, then I’m going to have a big fucking problem. 😒

Song stuck in my head: SLUM LORD by HEALTH (for reasons) Sleep: About 11 PM/midnight to 6 AM/7 AM Dream Job: Something that pays me enough to have a comfortable life and doesn't suck the soul out of me Wearing: Gray shorts and a black Momocon t-shirt Favorite Song: It changes constantly, I've had Do It All the Time by idkhbtfm on repeat a lot lately Favorite Instrument: I don't think I really have an individual favorite. String instruments are really nice, especially the cello. Aesthetic: Changes constantly, man, lmao. One minute I want to be a retro pinup girl the next I want to be in renfest garb and then twenty minutes later I want to a 90s bad girl in questionably fitting jeans and a leather jacket. Favorite Authors: I'm not really an avid enough reader to follow any authors too regularly. And I generally tend to go for standalone stories rather than series. Favorite Colour: Depends on the context. Clothing-wise? Black, dark earth, or dark jewel tones. For Valerie? Obviously red, blue, and black. Favorite animal sound: Cats purring. Just the best sound in the world, especially if they're purring while you're holding them. Last song: Do It All the Time because I listened to it when I grabbed the link for an earlier answer Last series: Currently watching Inventing Anna, although I did just do a Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul rewatch because 10/10 best fucking television out there. Random: I was chewing gum and now it's hard and I need to throw it out but I was waiting to finish doing this before I got up, lmao.

On the 18th of August, twelve years ago, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light was released for the Xbox 360.
Unlike previous games, the game does not carry the Tomb Raider brand and has a heavy emphasis on cooperative gameplay. In multiplayer, players take the role as either Lara Croft or a 2,000-year-old Mayan (I think Wikipedia is wrong, I'm pretty sure he's Aztec but don't quote me on that) warrior named Totec. They must work together in order to stop the evil spirit Xolotl and retrieve the Mirror of Smoke. A single-player campaign mode is available that does not include the non-playable character AI following or helping Lara.
Tumblr media
Though local cooperative was available at the initial release, online cooperative was later added.
Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light was well-received by critics. The game holds an average score of 85/100 and 86.36% on the game aggregate sites Metacritic and GameRankings, respectively. In September 2010, IGN listed Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light fourteenth in their top twenty-five Xbox Live Arcade titles of all time. Critics felt that the game was an excellent fit for Lara Croft. Guardian of Light sold 98,000 copies on Xbox Live in its first six weeks, and as of 22 August 2013, the game has sold more than 1 million copies on all platforms.

Tomb Raider Reloaded Blasts Onto Mobile This Month
CDE Entertainment and Emerald City Games have finally revealed the release date of the anticipated free-to-play roguelike arcade adventure Tomb Raider Reloaded, which falls exactly on Lara Croft’s birthday, February 14th! The game will make its way to Apple and Android mobile devices, as well as Netflix’s own games service, in which subscribers will be able to play without any ads or in-app purchases.
Alongside the announcement, the team shared a brand new trailer featuring our beloved heroine in cinematic action sequences and snippets of gameplay footage.
youtube
Tomb Raider Reloaded takes players on an action-filled adventure as they jump into the boots of groundbreaking hero Lara Croft on her swan-diving, cliff-climbing, back-flipping quest to obtain the ancient Scion artefact, clearing ever-changing rooms filled with new and familiar enemies as well as hazardous traps and puzzles. Along the way, they’ll acquire run-specific boosts alongside permanent rewards, like XP modifiers, runes that improve Lara’s stats, and manuals used to unlock and upgrade her outfits, such as her fan-favorite bomber jacket.
As players progress through each level, they can stack perks to enhance Lara’s abilities, and even craft weapons to upgrade her arsenal.
As a love-letter to the franchise, the game is set to delight old and new fans of the saga as it features iconic Tomb Raider locations, namely the City of Vilcabamba, the Lost Valley, and St. Francis’ Folly; memorable characters, from the likes of Winston, Kurtis Trent, Anaya Imanu, and Werner Von Croy; along with artefacts, outfits, and more.
Also making a return is the lovely Keeley Hawes, the British actress that lent her voice to our adventurer in the LAU trilogy and the two spin-offs—Guardian of Light and Temple of Osiris. If that wasn’t enough, it was revealed back in the 25th anniversary celebrations that the legendary voice actresses Shelley Blond (Tomb Raider), Judith Gibbins (Tomb Raider II, Tomb Raider III), and Jonell Elliott (The Last Revelation, Chronicles, The Angel of Darkness), will be reprising their roles as Lara and players would be able to chose their favourite between them all.
This connection to the series’ long-lasting legacy is reinforced by the game’s soundtrack, which includes orchestral recordings of classic Tomb Raider themes, spearheaded by musician Tina Guo—who made her solo debut in Peter Connelly’s The Dark Angel Symphony album.
Tumblr media
Tomb Raider Reloaded will be available worldwide on the Apple App Store, Google Play Store, and Netflix Games Service on February 14th. For a limited time after launch, all players will receive an exclusive golden version of Lara’s iconic dual pistols, like the ones you can see above.

Lara Croft & the Guardian of Light - The Mirror’s Wake:
“Last level before we have to deal with the main threat of the game, and this is such a bittersweet level for me. If you don’t have some of the best weapons in the game, then you won’t have a very good time, because most of these enemies are very powerful and take forever to be killed.”

Why don't AAA studios take a turn at making smaller games every once in a while? I'd imagine with modern tools and techniques a team of "merely" a hundred or so people could make a game with the scope of something like a PS2 game in a few months to a year. It seems like the market between indies and massive ultra-budget titles underserved.
Tumblr media
Publishers try this from time to time to varying degrees of success. Here are a few examples of some smaller budget games from AAA studios using modern tools and the like:
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
Far Cry: Blood Dragon
Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light/Temple of Osiris
Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Assassin's Creed III: Liberation
Assassin's Creed Chronicles: China, India, and Russia
Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite
Saints Row: Gat out of Hell
You've probably heard of some of these games. You may have even played some of them. Generally speaking, these games tend to get mediocre receptions at best. I suspect that a large part of that is the expectation level that players have going in - these games are built using the same tools and reusing assets from the big budget AAA titles, but don't have the sort of scope to create all new high quality assets so the players actively feel the content reuse and smaller scope of the smaller-budget title within a much larger-budget franchise.
Tumblr media
This isn't to say we won't continue to try, but the player expectations on games in this style set us at a disadvantageous position from the start, and with good reason. When they come from our big budget game to our lower-budget offering, they can see and feel that change quite keenly. Instead, publishers generally get more value from having the smaller teams create high quality paid DLC content instead of stand-alone games in part because DLC doesn't have the kind of expectation and stigma associated with a stand-alone title built from reused tools and assets. Once we finish our DLC support of the title, the team can then transition over to the next full-sized AAA iteration of the next game in the franchise.
