JUST WATCHED UNDERVERES 0.7 (part 1) AND HAHDGHSGAJGDJSGSJGDHSJSGD
spoilers under the cut 🥰
WHAT DID YOU DO TO MY BOY (XChara)
XGaster CANNOT be calling my boy a hypocrite because at least XChara didn’t FORCE SOMEONE TO KILL THEIR BROTHER???!!??????? MORE THAN ONCE????!?!?!!?????
(and also don’t mention season 1 because XChara is what we, in the industry, call ✨mentally ill✨)
like ain’t no way you’re staying sane after some bs like what happened in XTale
love that the explosive furby’s came into play tho
most of this is gonna be me crying over XChara I love him sm he’s so silly and he’s my favorite little scrimblo ever
MF XASRIEL STABBED XCHARA’S SOUL LIKE HELLO?.????
I had to rewatch that scene because I didn’t see the thorns coming out Xasriel’s hand BUT DAMN HELLO???????
my poor boy he doesn’t deserve this
he genuinely cares about what’s happening and hates standing by and doing nothing
also I hope i’m not the only one who saw the tiny faded text while XMettaton was fighting Undyne
the “I am him! (he is trapped within me)” and the “(please, I want to throw up)”
AND FRISK TALKED (barely)
sans is fucking traumatized man, he’s just given up-
Papyrus making jokes about the fucking merciless runs Frisk did “OVER MY MILLIOnTH BEHEADED BODY” like man 💀 honestly I feel that-
CROSS AND GENO !!!!!!!!
the two funny guys meet
I like how Cross still cares about the locket despite probably fucking hating XChara for like, everything rn
then again, it wasn’t XChara that gave it to him, it was XFrisk, so.
also bestie wtf was that unlimited vial for ??????
XGaster really said “here bestie take this. it doesn’t benefit you at all 🥰”
I was wondering how the new outfit would be introduced
also loving how Fresh!Ink’s weapon is those marker-swords every kid made when they had the chance
error really going through it huh 😔
core is so silly I want to be their best friend they’re so silly and nice
I wonder how the people across the world feel about XMettaton’s “OVERDRIVE”
like “wait it was daytime like 5 minutes ago what happened”
“daylight savings???????”
“…it’s????? 2pm??????”
I bet that conversation happened
I wonder how Frisk and XChara are gonna team up, because we know it’s gonna happen, we see it in the intro, Frisk and XChara with the save button
I had this theory that it would happen by XChara running away, Frisk thinking he’s like the others and trying to hurt people, Fight (?) ensues between XChara and maybe Papyrus or Asgore, trying to protect Frisk, XChara explains everything then boom besties but now i’m not sure because of the whole thing with XChara needing “pure determination” to defy XGaster.
I also remember seeing a theory on reddit about the names of each XTale character’s battle themes being foreshadowing for season 2, it was something about how XPapyrus seems to really really hate being on XGaster’s side, and his battle theme’s name is deceit, so maybe he’s lying about his loyalty to XGaster or something along those lines
and it would make sense, but it makes me question the names of everyone else’s battle theme, specifically XFrisk’s, being “Duplicity”
Duplicity definition: deceitfulness; double-dealing
synonyms: two-facedness, decietfulness, deception, funny business, shenanigans, you get the idea
if this whole “Battle theme names being foreshadowing” theory is true, then is he also lying to XGaster about his loyalty? or, to my dismay, would he be lying about something else later on…?
straight up, XMuffet’s is Insurrect, and us americans, after what happened on january 6th 2021, know what insurrection means.
so is XMuffet going to start a rebellion? how?
ALSO I CANNOT FUCKING GET OVER THE FACT THAT THEY BROUGHT THE FUCKING ARMY INTO THIS
MFS BROUGHT GUNS TO A KNIFE AND LAZERS FIGHT
idk something about the idea of someone trying to point a gun at XGaster or something just is so funny to me
and before I stop rambling, let it be known
XFlowey will give me nightmares 🥰

Mini Review of Lazer Team 2
There will be some spoilers up ahead! These includes things such as:
- RT refs used
- RT crew used
- Additional Characters and minor story
Read with caution ♡
----
So I got to see Lazer Team 2 in Sydney a couple of hours ago and I honestly couldn't stop laughing. The lovely refs they snuck into it and lovely RT appearances made the film awesome!
In my opinion, Lazer Team 2 felt so much better than Lazer Team 1 and you can definitely see that they improved from the first one. Things felt smoother, the laughter never ceased and the action was good. Like the first one, there were great cameos from the RT crew like Gus, Joel, Barbara, Tyler, Caleb and my personal favourite, Greg Miller (♡)! And of course there were some lil RT refs dropped into it, such as the "Million Dollars But- snail assassin".
There were of course, a few bits that fell short, such as the antagonists role within the film. Not getting into detail here but her role wasnt very uh... fleshed out? And I felt thay considering everything that happened in LT1, she didn't feel extremely necessary. It felt sorta bullshitted but none the less, I loved her character to bits.
As well as that, the ending felt incredibly short and too quick? The problem at hand seemed to be solved within a matter of minutes and cut practically straight to everyone being happy n whatever.
Overall, I thought it was a lovely film which Id absolutely watch again at the drop of a hat!!

FUCK IT, DREAM SMP HOMESTUCK AU
but it's only half shitposts and there are actual Thoughts in there.
You don't need to have read the comic to understand because I tried not to spoil anything major, but it'd help if you knew basic stuff about classpects, SBURB and the hemospectrum.
disclaimer: i'm not a good pixel artist and this is my first actual sprites ever so please be kind to my weird pixels
Tumblr media
The Kids:
Tommy
Fundy
Techno
Tubbo
tommy, tubbo and fundy one of the kids because they're the kids in dream smp canon (with fundy being son of wilbur)
techno's there because i want to make a dave strider reference (haha get it because techno's name is also da-- *gets shot) and also because they are both coolguys except instead of using irony, techno has adhd
The Trolls:
Wilbur Soohte (fuschia)
?????? Ehrret (violet)
J????? Shlatt (purple)
Nihacu Niikki (indigo)
Skeppy Diamon (cerulean)
Quacki Tthiey (teal)
Philza Myncra (jade)
Dreame Wastkn (lime disguising as olive)
George Notfou (gold)
Sapphe Nahfpe (bronze)
Badboy Haelow (burgundy)
don't come at me saying only females are allowed to be jades and fuschias; gender is fake and this is an au
more of the AU and the talksprites are under the cut:
Tommy
Tumblr media
Lunar sway: Derse. Types in: Red
chaotic. the first person to be introduced.
when he gets introduced instead of the “Zoosmell Pooplord” bit, Tommy is initially going to be the name inputted but then backspaced it and decided that Tommyinnit was better and he was fuming until he’s named Tommy.
Gives me big Blood/Hope vibes. Blood because a lot of the conflict of the dream smp connected to someone breaking his trust or harming the things he cares about, Hope because a lot of the plot of the dream smp stems from Tommy starting shit based on his ideals and what he thinks is right.
the first to instigate fighting against the trolls
bbh contacts him once and tommy keeps cursing until he disconnects from frustration rip
wields Gunkind and his only strife weapon at the beginning is the Vlog gun. He has Gunkind as his strife specibus mainly because he looked up at schlatt and he imitates him.
Fundy
Tumblr media
Lunar sway: Prospit. Types in: Orange
it was his idea to play SBURB but only through Dream.
he talks to dream the most among the other trolls fwt stans getcha juice this is the rosemary of the session
dream’s the one giving him exposition about the game so that’s how he knows how to play SBURB.
wilbur trolls fundy once and instantly adopts him.
“You’re my son.” “How does that even work??” “I was one of the people who created your universe. It’s basically the same thing.”
Fundy relents anyway.
Techno
Tumblr media
Lunar sway: Derse. Types in: Pink
dave strider but dead-inside voice + rose lalonde english major vibes
he slices the text box when you try to name him "Dave " like in
Tumblr media
techno gives me time player vibes (contantly on the move. his skyblock series, his “stays in the pit” monologue,) but also rage vibes (anarchy,  the “theseus” monologue, political alignment is Chaos) alas i am not sure what class
uses Tridentkind and claims "it came from god"
it was dream, he accidentally transportalized one of wilbur’s weapon while he testing the transportalizer.
Tubbo
Tumblr media
Lunar sway: Prospit. Types in: Green
the jade harley of this session. the only thing keeping them from going apeshit. where would they be without him.
but also jade harley in a sense that he seems nice and wholesome but also don’t fuck with them they can mess you up
Heart/Life vibes??? someone good at classpecting help
i put them in prospit bc of the "tubbo third eye" instead of tubbo having a sixth sense or smth, they see the future from the clouds of skaia when they sleep
wields Stress-relieverKind at some point
bonus: everyone’s actual hair colors
Tumblr media
Ideas about the Trolls
no i haven’t done their sprites yet bc it would take so much time and i’m not even sure if people wanna see more of this au skjdkdsakdfkl,, but i have Design Ideas.
events of the dsmp revolution are just a FLARP session drawing parallels to how the homestuck trolls had a FLARP session that spoiler alert: destroyed friendships. dtrio, eret, will are involved. eret betrays will's faction and wilbur's still Bitter over that.
on the context of alternia (highbloods and lowbloods) lmanburg and dreamsmp have their roles SWAPPED.  the emancipation theme thing is completely gone since highbloods are in more power than the lowbloods (the dream team) .
wilbur made a faction called l’manburg because he wants a place where he and his fellow highbloods could make drugs vibe.they take a piece of land that was owned by the dream team. in normal circumstances, they shouldve stood down because lowbloods aren't supposed to start shit with highbloods (especially a group of highbloods that has the alternian heir among them)  but dream turned it into an activism thing about lowblood rights. the story plays as close as possible without tommy or tubbo in it (which is pretty hard ik but this is the best can do).
like in the dreamsmp revolution, dream kinda let wilbur do what he wants but this time he has more reason to because he’s in a lower caste. dream really only fought back when wilbur announced that he’d be building lmanburg on their land and calling it theirs.
eret betrays wilbur by supporting the lowbloods and wilbur and co. technically won but only because he finally called the drones in, as a reference to how lmanburg absolutely got crushed by the dream team in the smp but technically won. l’manburg keeps the piece of land and the dream team scatter away to find a new home.
wilbur soot's a fuschia because a) he's in a position that has a lot of power, b) yknow how he wrote a song about squids and his thing with sally… yeah.
eret's a violet because nobility!! dream looks down on him because he's ambivalent on fighting for lowblood rights when he's in a power to do so "you just sit there, and you look pretty that's it"
also like eridan he has a minor aesthetic mutation (herobrine eyes) that won't classify him as a mutant.
jschlatt is purple because it makes sense thematically because of the gamzee parallels (a. substance abuse b. if you know what happens in act 6, you know this already but spoiler alert, he ruins the main protagonists' lives) also he's a funnyman he deserves the clown caste
quackity's a teal because he’s a law student. moving on--
ok but for real it also makes sense thematically because he's the one who wrote the thing that tricked schlatt into agreeing also he gets manipulated by schlatt which also draws parallels to certain events in the comic
skeppy and bbh are BEST FRIENDS despite being highblood and lowblood respectively. initially, skeppy just wanted to bother bbh but they grew to be good friends in time. y’know like how they actually becane friends :D
philza minecraft is a jade because dad friend. also works thematically, because spoiler alert he gets to murder a seadweller for going batshit crazy.
he also god tiers early. he dies fighting his quick undead denizen (haha baby zombie) but the consorts of his land carry him to his quest bed because he’s treated them all so well.
dream was initially going to be another caste but then i realized that means i have to make his hoodie something other than green which is unacceptable so its a good thing the fact that he's a lime works out
dream was the one who thought of playing sgrub in the first place- initially only planned to have gogy, sap, and bbh in the session but then realized that they four won't be enough so he invited more into his session
he’s also the first to go godtier ez clap blind speedrun not sure what classpect tho
the only reason why dream avoided being culled at birth for being a limeblood is because his rng is That Good. he quickly picked up the fact that he’s not supposed to exist and masqueraded as an oliveblood and kept mostly to himself to avoid suspicion.
george is still colorblind but he has lazer eyes along with it instead. dream lives with him in the same hive since being a mutant means dream doesn’t get a lusus of his own (dnf fans getcha juice “and they were roommates”)
despite living in the same hive, he never really figures out that dream is a limeblood. possibly because a) he’s colorblind and when he sees dream bleeding he just sees yellow b) he’s just that fucking oblivious and it’s so valid of him.
sapnap’s a bronzeblood mainly because i know he’s the instigator of the pet war with tommy also because i associate him with the color orang in my mind so bronze it is
that’s the end of this long-ass post!! if you have other ideas PLEASE i want to hear them. i don’t know the other streamers i mentioned in here very well so if you have ideas that would be fitting to them like with classpect or lunar sway that would be GREAT.
the only thing i’m confident about in here are the kids’ lunar sways. i’m not an expert in classpects and homestuck lore so there’s that too!! i just wanted to make this post because adhd means that the idea wouldn’t shut up until i finished it. This initially started as a single shitpost edit of tommyinnit talksprite but then the hiveswap 2 trailer came out and that means i have to combine my two hyperfixations.
also i have ideas about potential quadrants but idk how much of that is breaking some streamers’ boundaries about shipping (even the non romantic quads such as kismesistude, morallegiance and auspisticism) so i decided not to include it.
edit: apparently people want more so i made a discord server as a place to brainstorm!! please pm me to join!

Haikyuu!! Observations: Ushijima x Sakusa, Ft. Komori and Tendo
Tumblr media
**SPOILERS FOR ANIME ONLY’S BELOW**
Okay, am I about to dive into a lengthy post about why UshiSaku may be endgame in Haikyuu!! and how Tendo may be the best wing man for it all?
Uhm, yes. Yes, I am, so bear with me.
I’ve been stewing on this for a while now, so there’s a lot to cover in this post.  Let’s dive in!
Ushijima and Sakusa’s Parallels
Okay, first things’s first -- let’s talk about Ushijima, Sakusa, and the parallels the Manga has made with them. Starting with their views of Shoyo Hinata.  Let’s begin with Ushijima. While the stereotypical characterization of Ushijima is to make him completely stoic and unfeeling, Ushijima DOES have emotional responses, especially in the manga -- for example, his reaction on the court to Hinata is MUCH stronger than I believe the anime shows:
Tumblr media
This is developed further in the Shiratorizawa vs. Karasuno match -- as Ushijima struggles with the fact that Hinata is not a skilled player -- he just has natural athleticism and his actions are half “luck” and half the gutsy collaboration of his actions alongside the “reckless” and “wild” other players of Karasuno.
This idea of “luck,” interestingly enough, will come back with Ushijima nearly 200 chapters later...but we do establish here, that Ushijima is the type of person that admires and respects strength, and efforts that are backed by natural talent and disciplined training. It’s only natural that Hinata frustrates him, because at this point in the manga, Hinata and “disciplined training” aren’t exactly words that go together (more on that below).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Verrry similarly, Sakusa has no room for people who lack discipline, though his “discipline” relates more to personal health than just physical preparation for a game. This comes in direct focus in a flashback during the Black Jackal vs Adlers game, when it shows Sakusa first meeting Hinata. Unlike Ushijima, it doesn’t seem like he “hates” Hinata, just has absolutely no desire to be around someone that lets themselves get sick...and he only allows himself to be open to Hinata as a teammate after Hinata expresses that he has indeed grown up since High School.
Tumblr media
The manga also points to parallels of how they handle defeat, showing both Ushijima remaining proud and quiet after their loss to Karasuno, only quietly declaring to Hinata and Kageyama that he would “beat” them again --
Tumblr media
While with Sakusa, he’s more vocal in his musings about losing, in Chapter 368 stating that it would hurt more to be pitied, especially when you did all you could do, and still suffered a defeat. Itachiyama losing their setter could be viewed as “bad luck” in the final set, but Sakusa points to luck not having so much bearing as just it being the result of fate and unstoppable forces in the moment. Ever the realist, Sakusa...(again, more on “luck” below).
Tumblr media
Sakusa objectively presents the fact that they lost in very simplistic, albeit nihilistic terms, and similarly, Ushijima doesn’t shy away from using objective information and putting things in simplistic terms without hyperbole. This can be seen through his conversation with Goshiki below.
Tumblr media
Ushijima and Sakusa’s “Type”
So, if we’re going to even possibly ship these characters together...does it work? It becomes clear, through the manga and anime, though that both Ushijima and Sakusa admire players who are powerful, can present a legitimate challenge to them, and therefore spurn them to become stronger players, too.
Tumblr media
Both Ushijima and Sakusa are portrayed as incredibly strong right out the gate in the manga, which makes sense as both are in the Top Three Aces for high school volleyball. However, unlike Kiryu (the #2 Ace that is depicted as more down-to-earth, friendly, compassionate, and relatable to our other protagonists), both Sakusa and Ushijima have “colossal protagonist” vibes -- seeming larger than life, incredibly stoic, and emotionally distant to others on their team, even if they are around them constantly.
Tumblr media
And then, concerning Sakusa...there’s the infamous Chapter 394.
If anything has established what Sakusa’s “Type” would be, it would be these two panels. Ushijima is checking off all of the boxes for Sakusa: Understands personal hygiene? Check. Someone offering Sakusa a challenge as a competitor, and motivating him to keep moving forward and practicing? Check!
Tumblr media
Chapter 394 answers many questions, and points us to the observation of:
Sakusa’s “Pining”
Furudate, we see Sakusa lazer-focused on Ushijima from the other side of the court...you’re not fooling us:
Tumblr media
Hey, remember where the mystery of Sakusa and Ushijima’s relationship began? Waaaaay back, after the Shiratorizawa match, after the Fukurodani/Nekoma matches; at the start of the National Japan training camp that Kageyama attended in Chapter 209.
A camp, where it was noted by Karasuno, that Ushijima had been the chosen representative of their prefecture for at least the last year.
And who is the first person Kageyama runs into at this camp?
Tumblr media
And the first thing Sakusa states isn’t a proper greeting, it’s not about how they beat Shiratorizawa...it’s how the team “somehow” beat WAKATOSHI-KUN.
The next time we get interactions from Sakusa, he immediately jumps on the offensive, DEMANDING to know who the player was that led to Shiratorizawa’s downfall:
Tumblr media
It’s interesting that Kageyama implies the “entire” team was responsible for Ushijima’s defeat on the page before this one below, but of course, Kiyoomi does not pick up on this. Then, leave it to Komori to come in with the save. Again, tying Kiyoomi to being a “realist,” which will come into play below.
Tumblr media
So, it isn’t until Chapter 394 that we learn about Sakusa’s long-standing history of playing Ushijima in various matches, developing this competitive rivalry with him that has been going on since middle school. Ushijima is literally the one obstacle that he finds himself unable to surpass; the one piece of the puzzle he can’t put into place yet.
It’s no wonder the fact that someone defeated him irked him so much.
We get a little more context from Komori on Sakusa and Ushijima’s rivalry, and more on the flashback on their Nationals loss which will tie into my last point.
Tumblr media
Motoya Komori
I would be remiss not to bring up Motoya Kamori’s role in all this.
I think it’s verrrrrry interesting the route Furudate chose with Komori, specifically in revealing that he’s Kiyoomi’s cousin.
This makes a LOT of sense, considering how closed off and antisocial Sakusa is. It justifies not only why Komori is so keen to stick by Sakusa’s side, despite his seeming apathy towards his presence, but it also justifies why Kiyoomi even sticks with Komori: he really doesn’t have a choice. Komori’s family.
Tumblr media
Side Note: Ever get the impression that Komori and Kageyama could be a fun friendship/pairing? I mean, the top setter and top libero? Komori seems genuinely friendly with Kageyama, both at the training camp and when they see each other at Nationals, commenting on Sakusa being out of his element...
Tumblr media
...Juuuuust a crack pairing side note! Spread the word! Now, back to the post!
Tumblr media
Komori becomes our main expositor about Sakusa in Chapter 394, noting how osbsessive compulsive he is, especially in finishing anything he starts. It’s just an odd choice for me, to make Komori his cousin. True, it goes against the stereotype that all family HAS to look or act like each other, and it does make sense to why their friendship is so strong.
It’s just a move that Furudate hasn’t pulled the entire manga, and it comes right at the end of the series...and it disrupts Furudate’s tactic of giving us characters in “pairs” that, as some reactors have noted, are ripe for instant shipping.
Coincidentally, right as we start to make connections between Sakusa and Ushijima. It’s almost as if Furudate sank the Komori x Sakusa ship with revealing their relationship, just in time to reveal the answer to our mystery of why Sakusa refers to Ushijima in such a familiar way...and let that ship sail. How poetic.
Tumblr media
Also, if you wanted to know WHY Komori is so good at being a libero, look at this page below. I mean, if YOU had to practice non-stop with the Top Ace in the nation, receiving his spikes, you can only imagine that you’d be amazing at the sport.
I also like how this page points out how, despite Sakusa also having a physical trait that makes him stand out -- like Ushijima -- in contrast, it seems Sakusa’s “oddity” was instantly accepted among his peers and he didn’t face much resistance to it. Of course, this also could be because Komori notes Sakusa wasn’t close with his “much older” and “much busier” family.
Tumblr media
Tendo’s Friendship
And, tying this all together, of course, is Tendo’s involvement.
I love chapter 176 and this part of the anime, where we actually get backstory on Ushijima. I love that Tendo is pretty much his “true” friend in this series, as he actually is one of the few at Shiratorizawa to take the time to ask questions and get to know Ushijima.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Chapter 176 is a big source of material for people shipping Tendo and Ushijima together, and I’ll be honest -- until Sakusa came into the picture, I was right there with you all. Tendo shows genuine concern and sincerity in his conversations with Ushijima off the court, and on the court, he’s practically the ONLY character on Shiratorizawa’s team, and in the whole manga (other than Oikawa) that calls Ushijima out and isn’t afraid to tease him.
Tumblr media
Of course, in the end, Tendo is just as impressed and in awe of Ushijima’s raw athletic talent. It’s likely this page that fuels a lot of the ship:
Tumblr media
And, even later on, Ushijima borrows Tendo’s words to reveal to the team how much he’s enjoying the match, much to their surprise and Tendo’s delight.
Tumblr media
So yes, Chapter 176 I believe started the UshiTen ship, and it does become more compounded in the infamous “Boy Ball Arc” before Spring Nationals, as we learn in Chapter 210 about Tendo and Ushijima’s friendship off the court in more detail; one example being them sharing Shonen Jump magazines...
Tumblr media
...and another being that they hang out during the practice matches, with Tendo being pretty much the only one talking to Ushijima in a casual setting.
I’d like to point out that while some see this in Chapter 214 below as a “ship” moment, I did start to question if the two were just friends when Tendo likens Ushijima to a “monster” like Hinata and Kageyama. To me, this banter reveals that Tendo, ironically referred to as a monster himself, doesn’t put himself in the same league or category as Ushijima. This is also reflected in how Tendo notes he’s not pursuing volleyball after high school, but hopes that Ushijima ends up becoming famous and interviews him as his best friend.
Tumblr media
And this leads to the final point, which I think cements Tendo’s status as Ushijima’s best friend...but nothing more. Maybe. Perhaps. We’ll see.
We get the reveal in Chapter 395 that during Ushijima’s first few years post-high school, he didn’t constantly keep in contact with Tendo. We know this because Ushijima hasn’t mentioned his trip to the United States to Tendo, which had happened three months prior. So some time has passed there.
Of course, that doesn’t mean Tendo hasn’t kept caught up on Ushijima’s Pro Volleyball career, as that’s his reason for calling Ushijima in the first place.
Tumblr media
I like that Tendo offers Ushijima advice and genuinely asks how his family is doing, specifically his father, whom Ushijima went overseas to visit with his father. Even if it has been a while since they’ve talked, you can tell that they are close enough friends that everything seems to pick right back up where it left off for them, which is true for many real-life friendships, and I appreciate Furudate giving us that here, and expanded on more years later, below.
Tumblr media
I love this page of Chapter 402. Especially Shiribu’s little crush of Ushijima, as he “shhh”’s Semi.
Not only because it reverses Tendo’s original prophecy that it would be himself interviewed as the famous Ushijima’s friend, but also that it cements their friendship. I mean, Ushijima flew to PARIS for the interview. I know that in itself could be considered shipper fodder, but the fact that they identify as best friends...it just fits them so well. And I could see Tendo talking with Ushijima on late night phone calls to talk him through his dating, or lack thereof, woes.
Also, let it be known these men are the most stylish in Haikyuu!! They should work with Asahi.
Tumblr media
Also, also, Tendo’s favorite food is chocolate ice cream. That should have been all the foreshadowing we needed for his future career, right? ^^
Black Jackals vs Adlers
So, that leaves us with the meat of the UshiSaku ship: the Adlers vs Black Jackals match, and the final chapter 402. In Chapter 394, we establish Sakusa’s backstory and the potential pining he’s done for Ushijima the last ten years of his life, starting with this page:
Tumblr media
Again, tying back to being “lucky.” I like that despite how Ushijima couldn’t comprehend where Hinata attained all of his athleticism and lamented how half of his plays were just “lucky” and a combined effort of him and his teammates, in the end, Ushijima admits here that he himself is rather “lucky” he won the luck of the draw athletically and was born with a particular trait that made him excel in the game (that being lefthanded). Sakusa, incidentally, falls into the same category, though he doesn’t quite admit it as such.
I like that we see these two actually interacting side-by-side, as equals, a visual I think Furudate designs intentionally. Unlike Tendo, who doesn’t situation himself in the same realm as Ushijima, Sakusa positions himself right in the same sphere, of the “Monster Generation.”
Tumblr media
By the end of Chapter 394, Sakusa reflects on his own “luck.” In how he is lucky to have been given life -- reflected with a picture of Komori, his family -- to have met people -- reflected by Ushijima specifically -- and to still be playing volleyball -- reflected by his old high school setter, whom went on to play in the Division 1 league after his own injury. His views of “luck” are all represented in ideally, the people that mean most to him...and Ushijima is one of them.
Sakusa also describes his “Ideal Last Game,” which could be represented by the game being played in that moment. It’s beautiful that someone who is so germaphobic and hyper-obsessive with controlling the atmosphere around him (who he comes in contact with, how he finishes everything he starts), is also so content and at ease on a volleyball court, where nothing is in his control but his own body and the contact he makes with the ball. And it also helps that he’s surrounded by amazing players, like Ushijima, here, to keep him rising to the next challenge --
Tumblr media
-- which ends up coming his way in the very next Chapter, as Ushijima (coincidentally right after Sakusa) has his “moment” of reflection and growth put on display. Of course, Sakusa isn’t “finished” with catching up to Ushijima yet, as his cousin snidely reminds him with a laugh, here. I love that we see Ushijima smile, though, at Sakusa’s effort.
Tumblr media
Speaking of “Effort,” that ties into later in Chapter 400, when we have Sakusa’s own high school banner for Itachiyama put on display. It’s a simple motto, that goes alongside Shiratorizawa’s in “Be Strong.” I also like here, that in contrast to Chapter 395, when Ushijima was smiling at Sakusa, who couldn’t bump his spike, in Chapter 400, we have Sakusa getting the spin off of Ushijima’s hand, and as he lands, he gives a little smirk to a disgruntled Ushijima.
LITERALLY, these two have only truly smiled during a game at each other. Sure, each have scowled and showed irritation and drive towards facing opponents, but have we seen them “smile” at another in the midst of a game? Not really, unless you count Sakusa getting that service ace before Atsumu Miya in this same game...
Tumblr media
Speaking of Atsumu Miya, we’ll talk about him a little bit below. But for now, I like that Sakusa describes that there’s no “room for anything that disgusts me” on the court in a pro volleyball game. Everyone is at their fullest potential and peak physical condition, just like Sakusa, and they all have worked diligently to get to that position.
We don’t get much other UshiSaku crumbs post Chapter 400, although, I would like to point out that Furudate, when drawing the National Japan Olympic Team, placed these two right next to each other. You know...for no reason, I’m sure.
Tumblr media
And yes, I would be remiss not to mention this tiny panel -- the last we see of Sakusa or Ushijima or Atsumu Miya, I believe -- as it’s Sakusa that digs up Oikawa’s insane serve. I just LOVE the smile that Ushijima has here as Sakusa digs it. Because unlike Sakusa and Atsumu Miya, Ushijima knows exactly what kind of player Oikawa was in the past, and no doubt knows the kind of plays he could pull off...so I’d imagine he’s proud that his teammate dug up this serve right off the bat.
I know there are a lot of people that ship AtsuSaku, and I won’t deny you that Furudate has laid out crumbs for them as well...but I sort of view Miya with Sakusa the same way I view Tendo with Ushijima at the end of the day: as best friends. I definitely think that there is a hilarious friendship angle with Sakusa and Atsumu Miya -- but I think it’s Ushijima that is the player Sakusa is always going to try and beat and surpass...you could argue, very similar to the dynamic between Hinata and Kageyama in their rivalry...albeit, I think Sakusa’s hints more deliberately at something more...but that’s just my opinion.
Tumblr media
In the end, I find it interesting the decisions Furudate makes to show us these characters and specific interactions at the end of the series; specifically, showing Ushijima and Sakusa’s backstories back-to-back, and with all the little glances and panels of them near or looking towards one another. But hey, shippers will see what shippers want to see, right?
I do think that Komori’s panel here in Chapter 394 is pretty telling, though:
Tumblr media
Sakusa has identified Ushijima as someone he wants to beat and surpass, and he’s not going to stop until he does. And if there are feelings beyond that...well...he’s not going to stop until “he’s satisfied” with that, either.
At least, according to Chapter 378, Ushijima’s already got his flu shot.
I hope you all enjoyed this little dive into this bizarre pairing in Haikyuu!! I’ve wanted to break this apart for a while, and now that the manga is over, I hope to do more of these types of posts with other pairings. Until next time, we can celebrate the ship that is UshiSaku (and KomoYama/KageMori -- pass it on!) with fan fiction and fan art to our heart’s content! ^^

A.I.C.O. Incarnation Reveiw
Tumblr media
THIS REVIEW WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS
So while weighing which Anime to watch next from netflix I came across a couple good candidates, after watching the trailers I settled on A.I.C.O. Incarnation in part because the trailer presented a strong female protagonist and in part because the wormy monsters reminded me of the graboids from tremors so I had to see what that was about.
Two years prior to the start of the series there is an accident at a research lab which resulted in synthetic organisms to erupt in sudden and extreme cellular growth. This event called the ‘Burst' leads to the quarantine of Kurobe Gorge. In order to retrieve data and samples that where still in facilities in the gorge during the burst, teams of 2 called divers go into the area on contract to collect these samples and data for different companies. The danger being the malignant and violent nature of the synthetic organisms known as Matter.
Aiko Tachibana is a high school student who attends school on the grounds of the hospital she stays at for physical therapy after being involved in a fatal car accident prior to the burst event which killed her father. After a transfer student comes to the school only two days before summer break begins Aiko learns that her mother and brother are still alive in the quarantine zone and that she is the key in destroying the matter and ending the burst.
STORY TIME
Inside the quarantine area three groups of divers are in the same area for different collections only for them to come up against Malignant Matter. Eventually meeting up it’s stated that the Matter is different and not responding to their weapons as normal. One group splits off from the others leaving the two other teams tackle the aberration as they go to collect their target data. Unfortunately while the other two teams manage to escape the third team ends up killed by the matter.
Two years after a car accident that killed her father and badly injured her Aiko Tachibana has been recovering slowly however is still wheelchair bound. After being hit by a baseball because shed dozed off Aiko falls from her chair and thinks her arm bruises however the bruise fades away leaving her confused. After admitting to her school friend that she’s been falling asleep a lot like that lately and having odd dreams they go their separate ways Aiko stating she can’t attend club activities that day due to needing a health check up. She returns to her room in the hospital and talks with her nurse for a while, she also meets with her doctor Isazu who compliments her hard work at her physical therapy.
Following another strange dream Aiko and her friend rush to school fearing they will be late when Aiko accidentally crashes into a new student. Yuya Kanzaki, while he says nothing at first he picks Aiko up and settles her into her wheelchair making sure she’s alright. Despite being dazed by the run in Akio and her friend make it to class in time. To their shock however Yuya is introduced to the class as a new transfer student despite there only being two days left of class. Aiko is shocked by this but it’s more shocking when she stands up to stare at him. After school Yuya meets Aiko and her school club the ‘paper airplane club' on the roof and they talk a bit. Later that evening Aikos nurse suggests that now Aiko can walk again she should return to her family home and collect some of her belongings. Aiko is scared to go because she feels it would be the final proof that her family is dead. After talking it out with her friend and Yuya she decides she will go.
The next day Aiko accompanied by her nurse, her school friend and Yuya, is driven to her home, the front walk overgrown with weeds showing it has not been tended. So that she can have some closure the nurse decides to let Aiko go inside on her own assuring her that they are right outside if she needs any help. While wandering around the home and collecting a few things Yuya notices two vans that have been lingering near by. Breaking down in her fathers study Aiko finds a strange blue orb, the last gift her father gave her, which he had actually given her immediately before the accident. Before she can wonder what it is Yuya enters the study and tells her it’s time to go. While two suspicious delivery people attempt to enter the home Yuya, with Aiko escapes through a window and highjacks the van the nurse had driven them to the home in.
Following a brief chase which ends at the border of ‘old town' Yuya takes Aiko to meet his companions Dr. Susumu Kurose and dive team leader Daisuke Shinoyama. After explaining a little more that they need Aikos help in ending the burst Yuya exposes Aiko to her biggest secret. Taking a large tactical knife Yuya slashes it across her face, breaking the knife and showing her, her body is not human.
THE BAD
To be honest the show is pretty solid, there’s a bit of fan service it could have done with out but having seen how extreme some shows can be with it it’s not bad especially considering that with the cast in skin-tight jumpsuits through a good chunk of the show it could have been bad.
There are a couple plotholes however since they are related to the end of the show and I highly recommend this one I won’t get into detail, suffice it to say they could have been fixed with a couple lines of dialogue but they weren’t.
While there is a compelling subplot about Dr. Isazu trying to save his comatose daughter, there are further complex cutaways involving the government’s plans for the Matter and how to handle it which felt like padding.
The ending feels a touch rushed, it’s satisfying and all loose ends are tied up, I just feel like a proper epilogue episode would have been nice.
THAT BEING SAID THERE ARE GOOD THINGS
The story is great I really enjoyed it, all the characters feel real, even the obnoxious Kaede of the Divers team is a good character. Dr. Isazus descent into a desperate madness the closer Aiko and Yuya get to primary point is really well done and despite being the bad guy you can’t help but empathize for the father who just desperately wants to save his daughter.
The show feels the perfect length but also to short, it’s enjoyable and the ending is just perfect but I won’t say why.
The Malignant Matter is amazing as a concept and is realized well especially when characters connection to it is established. The way it moves is fast and fluid and the idea that different Lazer frequencies only work on certain types of matter adds a level to the stakes as the team runs into undiscovered matter and have to engineer bullets on the fly with data collected from samples of damaged matter.
There is a part were Aiko just picks up two huge guns and starts shooting, it was badass.
FINAL THOUGHTS?
Go watch it. Seriously, frankly after two duds I was fully prepared for A.I.C.O. incarnation to fail, but it doesn’t, it’s a good and engaging story with pretty animation well rounded characters and a cool concept.
I would recommend this, I know I'll be watching it again

So, thoughts on N’zoth
Not going to put this under a cut, because pretty sure by now either everyones seen the cutscene for his defeat, but uh....spoilers? Right so. Fun fight, FAST fight. Mechanically TIGHT fight. I hated it. And it dawned on me what needed to happen. It should have happened in reverse. Just hang with me here. The heart of Azeroth as the last anchor should have been the game plan all along, because up until Mother announces ‘new anchor point detected’...wait, hang on, you let me go in there without the final targeting anchor? Wtf, what was the plan then?! So. Heart of Azeroths the final anchor. Yes. Nice. Very good. Wraithon says he wont go into the final chamber, fearful he’ll be insta warped in the head. Thats fair, fine, you’re not the hero here, thanks for making a new threat down the line by wasting the dagger. We beat up the carapace, yada yada, N’zoth’s true form slithers out from his hole, pissed that he can’t nab Wrathion with us looking at him like he’s a loot pinata. Thats fine. So he hits us with the ‘yeah no, you’re mine, I chose you you meat sack, my champion, now open your damn eyes’ and we do the slow walk shuffle. ITS DURING THIS TIME (Still before the fight btw) That we’re shown the vision of Azahara and Sylvanas making the deal, and how even the Naga Queen calls her out for being a dickbag with her ‘goal’. ooo, spooky vague foreshadowing! N’zoth was the weakest of the Old Gods. It was said in raid, even before in the lore, that N’zoth was the Corrupter. The vision sharer. The Liar. We’re still slow walking towards him, he tells us he wants to SAVE Azeroth from whats coming, its his home too, he argues. He chose you because you’re smart enough to see something bads coming and knows he can’t stop it, WE can’t stop it, but TOGETHER we can save as much as possible.  Magni and MOTHER (I really hope she sticks around btw) meanwhile doing a little ‘Charging the lazer, 92% there, just keep him talking champions!’ pep talk in our ear. N’zoth promises to merge Ny’lotha and Azeroth into a single place, where the rules of death and life are...fuzzy. But its BETTER then losing his Black Empire. It’s BETTER then losing Azeroth. N’zoth promises us an Azeroth that might not look the same, but still -there- in a way. Thats how he fights, its his stock in trade. The little compromises. The little lies. A little corruption. (Check how much your armor has.) Magni tells us not to believe him, that Azeroth enslaved is worse then death, that we need to STAY STRONG. MOTHER follows it up with some target acquired nonsense and boom. From the merging heart chamber n’zoths been pulling in above him and away from us seeing, the lazer slams into him. Full force. Idk, put the sound effect of Godzillas atomic breath here.
Thats when the cutscene stops, and you can freely target N’zoth and see his dmg reduction shield pop to expose BILLIONS upon BILLIONS of health. More health then any single mob or creature has ever had in the history of Warcraft. You were never going to win the fight. This is N’zoth. The weakest of the Old Ones yes. But the first one whos ever been truly awake and FREE from its suppressing prison. And there was a REASON the titans had to lock them up. And you get to watch the Forge of Origination bring that bar down steadily with a planet killing amount of damage, you get to stand there and watch an Old One burn and scream in agony.  Ny'alotha crumbles in the backround as its master and dreamer is being killed. You did it. You managed to get the killing blow in! The burned husk of a dying god crashes down. You hear Magni cheering. Mother says nothing. The Forge decycles, the massive amount of power it held spent. It was one shot after all. Your raid team would get that sinking feeling in their stomach, collectively, in the real world as you realizing you’re still targeting him. And that hp bar still has 2% remaining. (Same amount as its real hp as of now) A feral, maddening scream escaping a charred psychic orifice with burnt smoldering teeth as tentacles burst from the ground, and the supposedly dead god lurches up with real -azerite leaking- burns carved into its eyes.  Looking at you with nothing but a fate worse then death in its mind. No pull timers. No prepots. No stacking. Kill an Old One.
