“We don’t read and write poetry because it’s cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race and the human race is filled with passion. Medicine, law, business, engineering—these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life, but poetry, beauty, romance, love—these are what we stay alive for.” ― N.H. Kleinbaum, Dead Poets Society

Arthur C. Clarke was giving a lecture and he spoke very adoringly of his fiancée, who gave him this very oh-stop-it look every time. Then he called her up to the stage and before she came up she ducked behind a box or something and Matt Smith’s Doctor emerged and said something in Matt Smith’s voice that was out of sync with his lips before making some adjustments on his neck and ultimately sounding correct.

On May 20, 1891, Nikola Tesla delivered a lecture titled "Experiments with Alternate Currents of High Potential and High Frequency" before the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. In this lecture, Tesla discussed his experiments with alternating current (AC) electricity, high voltage, and high-frequency currents.
During the lecture, Tesla demonstrated various experiments, including the effects of high-frequency currents on the human body, wireless lighting, and the principles of his Tesla coil. The demonstrations were so far ahead of their time that the people in the auditorium literally started panicking and running out the doors because they thought he was doing the devil’s work.
Tesla's lecture would introduce the basic principles to the wireless transmission of energy we all use today in our everyday lives. His contributions to electrical engineering, particularly in the development and promotion of AC power and wireless, had a profound impact on the field and the wider adoption of electricity for practical use.

Started my day with a health politics lecture. First of the semester. I don't really enjoy this subject, but It was actually really fun.
Then I had lunch (lasagna, which I reeeally love) and barbados cherry juice.
In the afternoon, I had a basic imunology lecture and it felt very productive. Then I had an oral physiology lecture that was more of an introduction to the subject.
Now, at night, I studied imunology and revised some basic physiology that I learned last semester.
Since is only the beggining, I don't have a lot to study, but I already have a health politics seminar to present. I'm always nervous about seminars, but I hope I get used to it someday.
P.S: For non-portuguese speakers. The "cãonino" in the orange agenda is a pun with the words "dog" (cão) and the"canines" teeth.

Hello, students.
As this is our first day in class, I won't be making you do too much work. However, we will be doing something. I have a paper for you to read and some short questions to answer, to get the school juices flowing. I'm going to give you until the end of class to finish this, so don't overthink it.
I look forward to seeing you all blossom as students!

Is it correct to throw something during a boring lecture at university? I mention this because someone threw a book at Simon's lecture.
Tumblr media
In my university, it would never have occurred to me to show such a lack of respect towards a speaker, whether a professor or a guest. In universities in the United States, it is considered normal to express dissatisfaction in that way by throwing something at a professor or speaker if the talk is 'bad.'
Even to mock the speaker? and laugh?
Is this a real thing is some Universities?
