🌈 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: 🌈 this boy is a constellation by Sam Payne Rating: 3/5 stars Goodreads: 4.31 ⭐ Being pride month I thought it perfect to finally pick up Sam Payne's 2nd poetry collection, 'this boy is a constellation'. I love seeing Indie Author's work that you can tell has had so much effort put into it. The formatting is beautiful and the illustrations that go with almost every poem are beautiful and add to the overall response to each piece. Even more amazing is that Sam does the illustrations himself. I love how Sam experiments with different poetry styles. I love the list poems that are spotted throughout and the blackout poetry is very innovative. This collection explores life in our early twenties. It's a book of letting go of the past, finding purpose, challenging expectations, and learning to love yourself. I feel like there is such honesty in this collection and it definitely felt very young adult. For me the poetry was maybe a little too simplistic and I didn't feel like there was any deep connection there. I kept wanting more from the words I was reading. Having said this, it was a very quick read and I think Sam's poetry collections are very important for young readers, especially those of the LGBTQ+ community. P.S. Aren't my Mum's roses beautiful?! 😍 #amylittlefordauthor #amylittleford #sampayne #thisboyisaconstellation #thisboyisarainbow #indieauthors #indieauthor #selfpublished #bookreview #lgbtpride #lgbtq #lgbtpoetry #poetrycollection #booksandplants #plantsandbooks #bookplants #booksandflowers #flowersandbooks #bookreviewers #bookreviewblog #ireadya #yabookstagram #yabooks #yafiction #yalit #iloveya #yabookstagrammer (at Cambridgeshire) https://www.instagram.com/p/CQJwS74rrpb/?utm_medium=tumblr
I am asexual and what really bothers me and annoys me is attitude of some "mainstream" LGBTQIA community members towards asexuals in general.
They say asexuals do not belong in LGBTQIA community because: "asexuality is a matter of not choosing to have sex", "it's mental illness", "they are not being oppressed as much as we are" etc.
We do have a lot in common with homosexuals and others! Do you have any idea how many times I have heard that there's something wrong with me and I should go on therapy, that it's against nature or that my sexuality is not normal? Then you try to approach someone from LGBTQIA community looking for a safe zone and they say that you don't matter? Do you know how much it hurts?
So, PLEASE, stop excluding asexuals from LGBTQIA community because this, my dearies, is the oppression you so fiercelly try to fight against. We don't need this kind of negativity among our own, we get enough insults from normies thank you very much.
Check out this great review of @thegorgonist and my Loki story for Jim Henson’s The Storyteller Tricksters #4. I’m so flattered. Can’t wait for y’all to check it out, we had a blast retelling this classic story.
