It makes me sick to think how each of the Jedi Masters in the disaster lineage lost their apprentice in the most tragic circumstances:
Yoda lost Dooku to The Dark Side
Dooku lost Qui-Gon to the Sith
Qui-Gon lost Obi-Wan(didn’t have a chance to finish his training)
Obi-Wan lost Anakin to the Dark Side
Anakin lost Ahsoka

Second variant of the Xanthi lineage for Daylight Publications! (@/DaylightPublLLC on Twitter)
It's inspired by a white hole, and as such works as a counterpart to the first design, the black hole Xanthi!

I had a question about something I had always thought of as odd is in Kuroshitsuji. Ciel and Elizabeth had been betrothed since childhood, and that on its own isn’t that weird. But then I remember that Vincent married Rachel (who is not related to him like Ciel and Lizzie are) for love and they didn’t even meet until they were older, and the same is presumed for Frances and Alexis. Do you think that there might be any plot related reasons for why the Phantomhive family (particularly Vincent and Frances who likely arranged for this) would have chosen to have those two marry? Perhaps anything related to their lineage?
Reasons for marriages
Well, let's back up... slightly... about why Vincent and Rachel get married. I'm not saying they don't love each other, because they definitely do. It's just that I'm not exactly sold on the idea that's the only reason he proposes and she accepts. At the time, and particularly among the nobility and royalty, marriages are pretty much never just for love; they are nearly always strategic... and it's just wonderful if there's also a love connection.
Someone like Vincent Phantomhive, the queen's watchdog, has to choose a wife wisely. She doesn't necessarily have to be in the best physical health, but she must have certain qualities, especially regarding personality and intelligence. They meet in the first place through her father, who probably counts among the "evil nobles" already. I've said this... somewhere, quite some time ago... that Vincent probably makes it known he's looking for a wife, and everyone in his network makes suggestions. He agrees to meet the ones that sound the most promising. Of course, his associates with young maiden relatives are going to try to get them married into the Phantomhive family, unless it would be too much of a peerage downgrade.
That said, Rachel's father probably would have been okay with Vincent choosing either of his daughters. It's just that it was definitely customary to marry off the oldest daughter first. Besides, I think Angelina is about 15 when Rachel is 17/18. Vincent canonically (because Yana-san says so) is already self conscious about the age gap between himself and Rachel -- about 6 years. So, it really puts things into perspective how unrealistic Angelina is to ever think she might have a chance with Vincent. He is nice to her but probably sees her as a kid, and he speaks to her in third person just like Rachel does. Like "Angelina's hair is lovely...", etc. to her, not to someone else about her.
Anyway, Vincent meets with Rachel a few times, where they get to know each other better, and they decide they are a good match. More importantly, Vincent must decide that she fits all his criteria... whatever that might entail. Then, given the formalities of the time, Vincent asks Rachel's father for his permission to propose.
For Francis/Frances and Alexis, it seems they meet during a fencing challenge... where she clearly prevails. And he falls madly in love with her, not just for her skill but also presumably because she's beautiful. After that, I have to assume he woos her until she accepts his proposal. Her mother is dead by then, and her father is... well... I think Alexis is led to believe that her father is also dead. They likely don't ask for anyone's approval... besides perhaps Vincent, with him being official head of the family by then, and he has no particular reason to say no. She gets bumped up in the peerage, too, so it's a bonus.
With Ciel and Lizzie, yes. I think there is a strategic reason for betrothing them... which probably happens as soon as the twins are born, if not before. It strengthens family ties, financially, etc... but it could also be a matter of special lineage -- say, a known reaper in the direct line of both kids. And Lizzie, from a very young age, is being trained to be the perfect wife of the queen's watchdog; that's something else her mom and Vincent might have planned as early as possible.
Notice that we've never heard about a betrothal for Edward. It could be that he's also betrothed and we've simply never heard, since it's not important to the story. Or it could be they didn't bother to arrange a marriage for him, since the Phantomhives don't have any daughters -- this would strengthen the idea that Ciel and Lizzie's betrothal is strategic. Personally, I hope he gets to marry for love... and I hope he ends up with Paula, despite the fact she's not in the peerage. He could raise her status, and that would be nice. Honestly, I hope that... after all this is over... Lizzie gets to find someone for herself and marry for love.

How genealogy is used to track Black family histories
Tumblr media
Our names are important to us. They tell us who we are and often, who we come from. So imagine suddenly discovering the last name you’ve always carried… might not actually be the name you should have.
Alex Neason began looking into her family’s history after discovering her great grandfather’s name was different from what she believed for her whole life. In her search to discover the story of that last name, she enlisted genealogist Nicka Sewell-Smith.
For Black Americans, genealogy can fill in the blanks left by the legacy of slavery and racism in the U.S. Services like the Freedmen’s Bureau and Slave Voyages provide free access to records and documents to help with that search. We talk about the power of genealogy in fostering knowledge and connection for Black Americans.
Source
If you click on the word “source,” it’ll take you to the article where you’ll see a LISTEN button. It’s a 30-minute audio that discusses the info provided in the article even further. Y’all know I’m big on getting people to trace their lineage. All that “we don’t know where we come from.” Who told you that? Everything in the US is in plain sight. Everything.
Discover your fam.
I assist others when they reach a roadblock, like getting past the “1870 wall.” But you can’t beat the feeling of you discovering them on your own. Unearthing your history, seeing photos, reading stories that were stored, and saying their names that haven’t been said for centuries. I’ve been tracing mine (scanning, logging) since my family reunion in 2005 through oral family history and obituaries (those are records), and since 2011 through databases of US archived records like ancestry.com (purchased by BlackStone) and familysearch.org (free database owned by the Latter-day Saints Church). There are others, but those are the main two I use for comparative results.
Archiving Centers, Census Records & Other Records
There are archiving centers in every state and DC that also keep records for those particular states and the federal capital. There’s a footnote on all records that tells you where they are housed. And please...Don’t just do a simple pedigree chart of your family tree. Get to know your great-aunts, great-uncles and cousins. It’s also helpful for seeing who lived around who (fam often lived next door to each other) and puts more of the pieces together of your complete family story. You can see the land and acres they owned or your fam today still owns, as well as if that land was stolen from them.
US census records go back to year 1790. Depending on when or if your ancestors were enslaved or free: you’ll find them attached to slave logs that have been made available online or kept in archiving centers (you go there), or or they’ll be listed on census records as free persons (1790-1710), free colored male/female (1820-1840), Black (1850-1920), Mulatto (1850-1890, 1910-1920) or Negro (1900, 1930-1950). “New” census documents are put on sites, like ancestry.com, every 10 years. As of 2023, you can only trace from 1950 to 1790. The 1960 census will be out in 2030. How to trace from 1950 to today, birth, death and residential records. So again, depending on the census year, you’ll notice your ancestors racial classification change throughout documents for obvious reasons.
Keep in mind that the the largest slave trade for the United States was the domestic slave trade. In house human trafficking and selling (in addition to property insurance of enslaved people and the selling of enslaved people as the building block of Wall Street’s stock exchange) is how US capitalism was built. So just because you know a lot of your people are from Tennessee, for example, it doesn't mean that’s where that line stayed. I’ve found my ancestors throughout 7 states (so far). Another example, people with Louisiana roots damn near always have ancestors who were trafficked from early Virginia. Going beyond year 1790, records were kept in Christian and Catholic churches and old family history books so most of those documents are scanned online and/or still kept in the churches. I’m talking books books.
If your ancestors walked the Trail of Tears, or were caught as prisoners of war or trafficked to Indian Nations to be enslaved, you’ll find an Oklahoma Indian Territory and Oklahoma Freedmen Rolls section on ancestry.com. You can discover more info on sites, like the Oklahoma Historical Society. (Every state has its own historical society for archived genealogical records.)
Here’s the National Archives.
Also for Oklahoma, you may also find your ancestors in Indian Census Rolls (1855-1940) as [insert tribe] Freedmen, depending if they weren’t rejected through the “blood quantum” Dawes Rolls for not being the new light to white status. You’ll see their application and the listed questions & answers with or without a big void stamp. And on the census, you’ll even see the letter I (pronounced like eye) changed to the letter B. This is also for those in Louisiana.
Freedmen’s Bureau & Bank Records
There were Freedmen’s Bureau records and Freedman’s Savings Bank records in other states. To see if your ancestors had their records in those systems, you can search by their name. The state and age will pop up with people having that name. It’ll give you a wealth of other info, like all of the kids and other fam if they were present or mentioned to the person who logged that info in. With the Freedmen Bank records, you can see how much money your ancestors put in there (that was later stolen from them by way of the United States government), which is still there today. It’s the biggest bank heist in US history (that they try to keep hush hush) with the equivalence of more than $80 million in today’s value stored in there today. Back then, it was valued almost close to $4 million. Stolen wealth met with bootstrap lectures.
Here’s a short video on that heist:
youtube
Today the bank is called the Freedman's Bank Building, located right on Pennsylvania Ave. Plain sight.
Trace your lineage.
There’s a lot more that I can list. But this is just the basics. Like I said before, it’s a more rewarding feeling when you discover your ancestors by yourself. You may reach roadblocks. Take a break. Try going the “Card Catalog” route on ancestry.com’s search engine. Don’t skip the small details.
SN: Slave Voyages isn’t a genealogical site, but rather a database for slave ship logs and the estimates of purchased Africans who became human cargo to be enslaved by country like USA, or by colonizers like Spain, Great Britain, etc.

Jewish culture is needing to periodically trace back genealogy instead of doing it in a single period of time because you keep running into dead ends thanks to the Shoah and the pogroms that caused your ancestors to emigrate to America. Then it’s all about fighting low key jealousy that some of your gentile friends can trace back their lineage to the 18th century 😑
(Ps I’ll be stunned and thrilled if I’ll be able to trace farther back in my paternal line than my great grandfather- given his hometown was destroyed by a pogrom in the 1920s. Then there’s the Shoah, and the fact that Putin probably has destroyed the national archives in Kiev through bombing tf out of Ukraine 😑. Even if he didn’t, there’s still the Shoah, and the high chance family records of Ukrainian Jewish ppl were destroyed 😣. I’d face something similar on my mother’s side, but her side emigrated to the States a generation prior. I found some tentative great great (great?) grandparents bc there’s some large families on that side.)

August sat at his desk, earbuds in his ears as he gave his housemate privacy, her boyfriend over for a date night. He didn't think she'd be so uncouth as to sleep with him while August was in the house, but better safe than sorry. He was working on his new manuscript, a book about a Scottish nobleman turned vampire by a lady love. It had plenty of action, intrigue, sex, and death and his publisher was very excited based on the advanced chapters he had sent her. Truth be told, it was more a memoir of his youth, but she didn't need to know that. He was quite satisfied with her thinking he just had an overactive imagination, thank you.
The music flowing into his ears paused as it went from one song to the next and there was a thump that made him lift his head. Pulling the buds from his ears, he listened.
"Stop it." He got out of his chair, leaving his office and heading towards the living room. "Get off me, Jack! Stop!"
"Just relax, you'll enjoy it." His stride lengthened and he entered the living area to see his housemate being pinned onto the couch by her boyfriend. "Come on, Jenny. You know you want--hrk!" He was suddenly ripped off of her, a strong arm around his throat.
"The Lady," August growled out, his forearm tightening, "Said no."
"August!" Jenny exclaimed, sitting up, "Let him go! For Pete's Sake, he's turning blue!" August released the grip on his throat, but didn't let go of him entirely, grabbing him by the collar and dragging him to the front door.
"Don't come back. Don't contact her." He said and threw him out, slamming the door closed and making it rattle in the frame. He stood there for a moment, breathing heavily, rage still curling hot through his veins. Rage at Jack and at himself. If his music hadn't been switching over when it did, he might not have heard anything, she might have been---
Her hand sliding over his shoulder made him look at her over it.
"Deep, even breaths, Walker." She said and he turned on her, reaching up to grab her chin in his hand and leaning into her, pressing his lips hard against hers. He felt her squeak of surprise and he softened his lips, moving them over hers slowly as he changed his grip to holding her jaw gently. She was unresponsive so he pulled back.
"I'm sorry." He said, looking down at her. She went up on her toes, lacing a hand behind his head and pulling him down into a kiss of her own, making his eyes go wide briefly before they closed. His hands wrapped around her waist and he pulled her closer, his head tilting to the side as he deepened the kiss, parting her lips and dipping his tongue into her mouth. Her fingers moved through his hair as she accepted him, her arms laying on his shoulders. When he pulled away to allow her to breathe, he saw how her pupils had blown wide, a flush to her cheeks.
Her family has served him faithfully for generations, taking care of his daylight responsibilities while he was otherwise occupied with being dead to the world, figuratively speaking. They have since he was human, being his caretakers and companions. The cycle was broken, briefly, when Jen's mother had left her father while Jen was still a baby. As such, he didn't watch her grow like he did the others, Jen reconnecting with her father after his cancer diagnosis, the rosy-cheeked babe August remembered now a beautiful woman. She moved in after her father's death, taking on his responsibilities because there was no one else and she promised him she would. In return, August paid off her modest debts and set her up with a generous allowance, all her needs met.
The others he felt familial towards, they were his family, and while he still cared about Jen, his feelings for her were anything but familial.
“You're done with him.” August said, “Jack. I never want to see or hear of him again.”
“Uh huh.” She said with a nod, her fingertips moving through the hair at the back of his head. “Completely done.” He kissed her again, crushing her body against his as he plundered her mouth until she was breathless. Her hands left his hair, moving around to his chest and starting to unbutton his shirt, her hands sliding inside to run over his skin, her fingers twisting through the hair there. If his heart still beat, it would be beating a rhythm against his ribs. Bending slightly at the knees, he picked her up in a bridal carry, taking her from the living room and up the stairs into his bedroom, kicking the door closed behind him.
He lay there afterwards, watching her sleep, reaching out and brushing her hair away from her face, smiling slightly as she moved into his hand. He had never fed from any of the others out of respect, and while he did respect her, he had indulged himself in her blood as he indulged himself in her body. The marks were still visible on her neck and he would heal them later, but for now he basked in a kind of possessive pride as he saw them.
Leaning in, he brushed his lips across hers, the backs of his fingers moving over her jaw lightly.
“You're mine.” He whispered, “Now and forever.”

Sharing some Confluence work (you can find more on twitter and insta with #CosmicMirrorRPG!) There are many playable Lineages in Confluence, thousands, maybe 100s of thousands. But none are quite like the Alfira. Alfira are a small people standing 3-4 feet tall, walking both bi and quadrupedally and are best known for their innovations in smoke magic and agricultural techniques. Their cultural centers are underground except in Brellence where they have settled in agrarian communities.🐁 Mander is one of the creators playtesting characters, and he's such a cutie, i love him.

Hello! I know you wrote that your askbox is open for chap204 question, so feel free to answer this whenever. I scrolled so far down you reapers tag the app glitched and would only show me the same posts on loop so I didn't see if you answered something about that before: in GW arc, Sasha said that Ciel could see reapers either due to his being close to death or because of his lineage. But people had no problems seeing butler!Grell, or passenger!Ronald, or circus membre!William, or Grell and Othello at the manor and there's other exemples like Undertaker? So is it a mistake by Yana or did I misunderstood?
There are some older posts about this, but they might be hard to pin down, especially if Tumblr starts glitching. 😆
When can you see reapers?
When trying to hide, only certain people can see them, and only under certain circumstances. Reapers can be seen by anyone when they are not trying to hide.
However, there's some reasonable debate on whether Grelle is supposed to be seen by everyone when Lizzie is in fight mode and automatically points her sword at Grelle. I think Grelle was not trying to be invisible at that moment. The main reason I say that is because Sebastian stops Lizzie from fighting Grelle, and Sebastian clearly cannot see reapers who are trying to remain invisible.
Regardless of whether Grelle was trying to be invisible right then, though, the question remains why Lizzie would automatically point a sword at a reaper when she was fighting bizarre dolls.
Even though reapers are supposed to have souls, they are definitely different from regular human beings... and Lizzie might have sensed something off about Grelle (in general), before Sebastian can say anything about Grelle (specifically).
Automatically registering that reapers are not human might be a nod to her lineage anyway, just as seeing reapers when they are in hiding is a nod to our earl's lineage. Keep in mind that our earl only takes note of Sascha and Ludger when he hears one of them say "Phantomhive"; he turns around at the word and finds them in the trees. Similarly, Lizzie only tries to attack a reaper when she's caught up in her sword fighting "zone". In such states, they are probably more open to their own burgeoning powers/abilities.
