MOVEMENT - Linoprint
For a "final" piece for lino I had printed orange ink onto wallpaper, and I had the idea to add my other prints to that and then glue the piece together, to mimic a Greek vase.
The wallpaper was slightly textured, so the prints are unclear, however I think it gives it an ancient feel, like despite the images being modern the vessel is still several years old. Like a commentary on how these feelings and stories portrayed on my prints have been around for centuries.
Then I glued the pieces together to form a round shape, like a vase.
This process was very experimental, I didn't know what it would look like in the end or if it would even work, but I'm glad I went out of my comfort zone bas I think it turned out quite well.

Week 11: MINOR PROJECT : NAKED - The Nightmare & The Normal FINAL OUTCOME PRINTS
I hung all of the prints on one of the walls of my very small room.
Top row: Nightmare Prints - Riso Printed
Middle row: Normal Prints - Riso Printed
Bottom row: Nightmare Prints - Lino Printed
I'm proudest of the bottom 2 rows, which were my entire project goal. The top row was really just an experiment but they turned out alright and complete the pattern that is going on there.
Now to the individual pieces (except top row):
Extremely happy with everything! I'm not even taking them off the wall, they all stay on there till I move out in a few months!!

i will never not find it funny that when i was doing my art alevel we were made to do this weird experimental mini-project based on 1 word we each picked. i hated every second of it, my brain just did not work in the right way for that to be something i could do. and my distress and inability to actually do what we were asked were so profound that my teacher pulled specifically me aside to tell me that it clearly wasnt my thing, so i didnt have to do that again and that was fine

I wanted to create a more regimented piece showing queer people being forced into the 'mould', becoming fragments of their true self

just curious what people said about your art, in regard to your vibes and what artists youre reminiscent of- especially the contradictory stuff
for the similarities: H. R. Giger, Mary Shelly's Frankenstein, a few different Tumblr artists who I haven't had time to like, look into yet so I'm not going to tag them dbhdhrjd, and also the locked tomb series.
and the themes that were mentioned were dark drama, exploration of difficult themes, monstrosity being made mundane, and generally a sense of dread.
I think the contradictions mostly came from people who only interacted with the comedy stuff and art, vs people who interacted with the prose as well. the majority of my actual art trends towards the more lighthearted and pretty sides of things, while my writing gets into the like, edgelord gore and actually kinda fucked stories. so tldr it was "monstrosity as something warm and beautiful" vs "monsters being monsters to other monsters"
A few different people mentioned that I tend to be extremely experimental with both my art and writing. which on the art from I think that comes from the fact I regularly say "hmm hate this" and radically change my style bc I got bored with it. while on the writing I think it's because I change my narration style to suit the project and focus character so there's no stylistic consistentancy between any of the writing projects that are actually like. having effort put into them instead of being random drabbles. The drabbles have a wandering style that's just based on whatever I last put effort into.

MOVEMENT- LINO PRINT
For the lino print workshop, I wanted to continue with my modern equivalents of ancient Greek designs. A lot of Greek ceramics will feature battles and war characters, like Achilles or Heracles, and as i was thinking of a a modern equivalent to that, another student in the workshop told me about how she saw someone getting threatened with a knife to the neck in the city. To me that is an accurate equivalence of violence, so I made a lino cut based on that in the style of ancient Greek artwork.
After that I started thinking about mythology, particularly the story of Medusa. She was desecrated in a temple to Athena by Poseidon. Athena was furious with this, and instead of punishing Poseidon, she decided to put blame on Medusa, and cursed her to have snakes for hair, that would turn anyone who looked at her into stone. In Greek Myth she's depicted as a rageful monster, but this is unfair. I see this character as unfairly punished and justified in vengeance, which I wanted to depict in lino form as trying to get rid of her curse with a pair of scissors.
I experimented with these carvings by putting prints of them onto one big piece of paper. It kind of remined me of a mosaic.
