The bulbous perennial Nerine bowdenii (Bowden lily) was producing a dramatic display of vibrant colour by a path in Lip na Cloiche garden on the Isle of Mull, Scotland. This South African plant thrives in a well-drained site with full sun.

Made my 1st visit to Lip na Cloiche #gardens on the #IsleofMull. Wanted to visit for years. Flying visit, but will be back. Met #garden creator Lucy Mackenzie Panizzon, who’s made a marvel of largely Southern Hemisphere #plants. Blog post & lots pics will follow! @lipnacloiche (at Lip na Cloiche Gardens, Nursery & Crafts) https://www.instagram.com/p/CcGn10Vq3QS/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

In the wonderful garden of Lip na Cloiche, Isle of Mull, Scotland, an Aconitum species was flowering possibly Aconitum carmichaelii (Carmichael's monk's hood, Chinese aconite, wolfsbane). This herbaceous plant has an upright habit and the flowers are produced in autumn. Please be careful as all parts of the plant are highly toxic if eaten and can be harmful through skin contact.

Hamamelis (witch hazel) species and cultivars offer good value for the garden. In winter they provide beautiful, spider-like scented flowers and in autumn they produce this wonderful display of glowing fire-like foliage.

Too late for flowers on the Echium pininana (giant viper's bugloss, tower of jewels) just the old flower spikes remain but the rosettes of foliage are forming striking features around the garden of Lip na Cloiche garden on the Isle of Mull, Scotland. This biennial or short-lived perennial from the Canary Islands will produce a towering spike of small blue flowers in a sunny, sheltered garden, and is very popular with the local bees.

The herbaceous perennial Persicaria amplexicaulis 'Rosea' (bistort) was creating a delicate pink mist of small flowers. This plant produces a dense clump of upright, slender stems that flower through the summer and into the autumn.
