What's wrong with "state media"? What's wrong with Chinese-style democracy? If the system delivers, it must have merits. During my first appearance in a Pakistani national level security dialogue, I laid out China's case in response to insinuation by a Western fellow journalist.
As I always say: All non-English speaking countries need their own official English "state media", because the translation quality of English speaking countries' "state media" is worse than Google Translate.

What's wrong with "state media"? What's wrong with Chinese-style democracy? - Liu Xin
We're doing this in English. Can you imagine this is my second language? My native language is Chinese. Shane, with all due respect, try to do this in Chinese. And then we'll see who gets better following in the international platform.
That's the biggest challenge we have, and we're working so hard as much as you are trying, to bring out truthful, comprehensive, multi-dimensional information from China to the world. But we're always discredited because we are “state media”, and I've heard this word all the time, so often, even in this forum, even from Oksana from RT.
Ladies and gentlemen, there is nothing wrong coming from the state media, especially when you come from China because the state needs to represent the people. If the state doesn't represent the people, people will not watch it, people will not follow your leadership, you will be gone tomorrow.
I tell you two sets of statistics. Can you guess the level of trust of the Chinese people in their central government, meaning their political system? And can you guess the level of trust of the Chinese people to their media? Both from international sources. Take a wildest guess. Shane, can you have a wildest guess? Guess?
I tell you the first one from Harvard, 13-year long survey result, 90% of Chinese people trust the central government. Second from Statista. And you can, all are open source. 70% or 80%, actually gone up, of the Chinese people trust in their press.
Why? You think the Chinese government is so bad? You think the Chinese system is so bad? You think the Chinese press is so bad? But people trusted. Why?
Because we do a very good job and we deliver. Because what people hear, what people read can match what they see. And there is a great sense of unity, of cohesion because of that. And that's why China can deliver because people trust the government, people trust our media, and in return, we can do things together. So that I want to get out of the way.
Secondly, democracy. I've heard this word all the time, all the time. Let China choose its own style of democracy if the people like the way they live, if people are satisfied with the way they live. Why do we have to switch to a Western style democracy? The freedom of expression is enshrined in our constitution as well, Shane. We have that too. Please read our constitution. It's in Chinese but you can find an English version.
And then okay, coming back to the barrier of language. President Xi says we have to tell China story well. In Chinese, it means 讲好中国故事. But it's so tricky because this can be interpreted as "tell good China stories".
And that is the challenge we're facing because the Chinese language is 5000 years, so sometimes it can be very vague. But it's the beauty of it as well. The single word “好” can mean "good" and "well". So a lot of people ask me, hey you wanna tell good China stories alone? I said no. I said we wanna tell China story well, which means true, good and bad comprehensively, multi-dimensional, because there is no one China story.
We, being strong, being literate, being open minded, open to criticism as well. Chinese system is not perfect, Chinese media is not perfect. We have a lot of problems. But by doing all of these, we are strong, we can be immune to disinformation. That's all I want to say.

The Scum Villain's Twin is the Grandmaster of Beast Cultivation
AU masterlist
Part 4: Calm before the storm (aka the time between the Abyss and the Reunion™)
obs: this was rewritten since Tumblr nuked the original for some reason and I, like a dumbass, didn't have a back up.
After the conference, SY gives himself a year and a half to mourn his disciples, with LQG being a constant grounding and comforting presence.
And, as a rare gesture of apology, SJ actually concedes LBH to the Beast Peak. This is also a sort of olive branch offering since the twins weren't in speaking terms for a while.
Not ideal, but SY will take his victories as they come.
After the mourning period was over, SY and LQG got married and it was a beautiful cerimony.
SY's fox mom was overjoyed and used the opportunity to pester her other cubs who haven't found a mate yet.
Mama Liu smiled!!! In public!!!!
Papa Liu shed one (1) happy tear at seeing his son getting married.
Grandpa Liu out-drank everyone in the banquet afterwards.
SJ looked grumpy, but was really happy to see his brother being loved and cherished. And if he cried because of it later, no one knows.
(He did)
In the wedding night ( ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ) LQG learns something very important about his husband: his past as a slave.
The two of them talk about SY's scars and the brand on his chest, marking him as a property to the Qiu Household.
SY: "My brother and I have very different philosophies when it comes to the past. He wants to bury it and forget about it as much as possible, while I prefer to remember so I won't let anything similar happen again."
LQG will remember that.
After the wedding, SY started to also dote on LQG's disciples, saying that both Bai Zhan and the Beast Peak's disciples were "their cubs".
Said disciples were initially too stunned by the headpats and candy to question everything else.
(But they also worked even harder to earn some praise from their Fox-like shibo.)
One day, a very fascinating thing happened.
Huan Hua Palace asked for SY's help to deal with a very weird beast roaming around the Bailu Forest.
Since the beast cultivator was one of the greatest scholars when it came to the fantastical fauna of the world, there was noone better to identify something so foreign.
And there SY went, being guided to the forest by Gongyi Xiao.
The Huan Hua head disciple was very respectful and was very much in awe when meeting the Grandmaster of Beast Cultivation.
The two of them talked for a while, with the younger being overoyed to get to know such a powerful and kind immortal master.
SY, on his end, found GYX's company to be quite pleasant and lamented that he didn't get to meet the boy when he was yet to start his journey in cultivation. His personality would be perfect for beast cultivation.
When the two arrived in the forest, SY immediately picked up on something feeling strange.
Not malicious, but not quite right either.
He followed his intuition until finding a small grotto, where a strange mushroom grew.
There, he saw the mysterious creature.
A long, thick and both serpentine and human-like being slithered near the water. It seemed to sense the cultivator and curled on itself.
If it was to attack or to simply hide, it was difficult to tell.
But SY wasn't afraid. He dealt with his fare share of snakes before (even formed a Deep Bond with one), so he acted as non-threatening as possible.
Sometime passed and the snake-like being seemed to relax and even approached the beast cultivator, albeit with some hesitance.
Seeing inteligence in those eyes, SY started to talk with the creature.
SY: "Greetings. This one is Shen Yuan, a beast cultivator sent here to investigate your presence in this forest." he introduced himself, making sure to be as respectful and non-threatening as possible.
SY: "You are not from this area, are you?"
The "snake" shook his head.
SY:" Are you here because your natural habitat has been destroyed or lacks food?"
Another headshake.
SY: "Mating season?"
A furious headshake and... blushing(?)
The beast cultivator then pauses for a bit, thinking.
SY: "Then... are you here to retreive something specific?"
The creature relutantcly nodded.
SY: "I see..." he then looked around, trying to guess what that thing could be, when his eyes land of the mushrooms in the center of the grotto.
Those... were those the Sun and Moon Dew Mushrooms?
Interesting.
SY: "Are you here to gather some seeds of the mushrooms?"
Another nod.
The beast cultivator smilled.
SY: "I shall gather them for you then."
And he did.
Zhuzhi-Lang will remember that.
Meanwhile, LBH is fighting for his life in the Endless Abyss.
In the jumbled mess that is his heart and mind, the young man usually let's himself indulge in two kinds of fantasies to go through his days there.
The first is revenge against Qing Jing Peak and Shen Qingqiu.
The second is to come back worthy of courting SY and paying back all of his kindness.
In the first timeline, LBH didn't know much about his Shen-shishu's personal life, incluiding his orientation and expectations for a partner.
In this one, however, all of the vinegar he drank gave him the knowledge that the beast cultivator liked strong, reliable and blunt men.
He could become that. And if he could surpass his shishu, he might have a chance wooing and marrying SY.
So, like Bing-mei, this Binghe could not be less interested in a harem.
With time, he gets Xin Mo, conquers the demon realm and starts planing how to take over Huan Hua.
Initially, LBH plans on recreating a good reputation in the cultivation world and become closer to an equal to his beloved shishu before trying to court him.
However, the more time he spent in the corruption of Huan Hua, the more he started to despise it.
He specially hated dealing with the Old Palace Master and his daughter, who were dowright creepy towards him.
His only "prized" victory was successfully taming a demonic wolf-like beast, something he saw as proof that he belonged with SY and his peak.
However, as a now experienced hunter and scheamer, LBH was slowly setting things into motion to fufill his desires to make SQQ pay and woo SY.
Xin Mo starts to slowly influence his emotions, magnifying his distaste for humans and his jealousy, but it's subtle enough that LBH doesn't take notice yet.
But when he does, he tries to control the sword by supressing it.
It seems to work for a bit, but Meng Mo advises him to find other ways to do it.
Now, it was a waiting game for both LBH and SY. One had plans to set in motion and the other was enoying the peace while it lasted.
