I love how everyone is more or less rummaging around the internet to either read or research Agent of Asgard / Loki’s God of Stories arc right now

In the thorki post reblog i was wondering where the quote "his death or mine with end the cycle" is from. Is it from the novelization?
it's from Blood Brothers!
Tumblr media
a lovely comic/animated which opens up with Loki having gained the throne of Asgard and having Thor in chains, except even when he recognizes they're perpetually stuck in roles as hero and villain he doesn't want to kill Thor and struggles with being forced to announce an execution date once he's got everything he aimed towards wanting

that feeling when you consume a piece of media from your long term hyperfixation (that still fave you those dopamine butterflies of bliss and inspiration) yet you still wonder if because you've had the fixation for so long if that'll be the sudden death of it.

So far Jake Doubleyoo’s version of Loki is one of my favorites. The line “Wow this problem was actually super easy to fix. I wonder how I can ruin this situation for myself?” is perfect Loki.
Tumblr media
Like most people who take an interest in Norse Mythology I went through the expected stages of Loki interpretations; He’s evil. No he’s actually good. He’s tragic. He’s actually a misunderstood hero.
But the truth is he’s just a trickster god who thinks he is too smart for his own good sometimes. He keeps doing stuff just because he thought it’d be funny or to see what would happen and well, he finds out what happens. He cuts Sif’s hair off for no reason while she’s sleeping and Thor immediately knows he was the culprit because he does shit like that all the time and when he’s told to fix it he keeps digging himself into worse trouble AFTER FIXING THE PROBLEM.
And thanks to Hollywood people think of Odin as a Zeus type but in reality Odin is a trickster god too. He and Loki have a lot in common and it makes sense that they’re blood brothers. In case you don’t know, blood brothers are men who were so close they decided to mix their blood, usually by cutting or pricking themselves and pushing the wounds together. They do a lot of the same stuff, only Odin is more focused on learning while Loki just wants to party.
I know “Loki turns evil because the gods treat him so badly” is a popular interpretation but if you actually sit down and read the texts you could just as easily interpret it as “Loki keeps fucking around and finding out and is mad that his actions have consequences” because the texts are so vague you have to do a lot of reading between the lines. Some texts even contradict each other. In one text both of Loki’s parents are jotun. In another his mother is a god. You can literally read the texts and their many translations in a million ways.
I personally like the version of Loki we get in the comic series Valhalla. In that version he is a trickster god to the bone who does stuff for shits and giggles or because he thinks he’s above the law. He’s never truly evil but he can’t be trusted either. You get a lot of funny scenes where he’s freaking out because the gods are onto him and he’s trying to talk his way out. Also, for the Aces out there, he’s implied to be asexual in this version. He does the sex sometimes but only to reach a goal.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This version is the base for a lot of Loki interpretations in Scandinavia and is worth a read.

FREYJA pt 5 💙
Loki went through a pain she had to face all by herself, to protect her little girl. Nobody knows that yet. Maybe she’s not the best mom but she’s trying hard. ☹️

Don't Be Shy [Loki x Fem Reader]
A link to my (new) Masterlist is here. Summary: [Oneshot] You want him. He wants you. But he's shy, and for good reason. Warnings: 18+ Minors DNI. Smuttish. S*x starved Loki. Teasing. Dirty talk. (w/c 1.9k)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You had decided. Come what may, tonight was the night you were making your move. You glanced subtly towards the god of mischief sitting cross-legged on his own, lounging diagonally on a sofa at the far side of the common room. Garish balloons floated in the air on either side of where he sat, looking comically out of place in his self-imposed fortress of solitude. He curled a loose tendril of hair behind his ear before slowly licking a fingertip, gracefully turning the page of his book.
“You know what he’s like at parties.” Thor shouted through a slur, barely audible over the music and sporadic breaks of laughter all around you. Reluctantly, you turned to the blonde looming over your shoulder. “I know, but usually he reads at the bar at least.” you scoffed, taking a sip. Thor chuckled, shaking his head. “My brother likes you, you know. He’s just shy.” He narrowed his eyes, seeing your lips twitch in a smile. “Likes you.” he continued coyly, labouring the point as he wriggled his eyebrows “...if you know what I mean.” You rolled your eyes. “I think the mini-quiches know what you mean.” The god laughed, far harder than the joke deserved. The head of his beer sloshed over the side of the glass, hitting the floor by your feet. You saw Loki’s head rise out the corner of your eye, a disapproving frown etched deep on his face. Thor leant closer. “He’s waiting for you to come to him.”
“Is he, now?” you replied innocently. “Well then...I shouldn’t keep him waiting, should I?” Shooting Thor a wink, you began to sway towards the dark-haired god. The grooves on his forehead smoothed suspiciously quickly as he composed himself, blinking several times in swift succession. Clearly, he was flustered. The skirt of your skater dress swished around your thighs as you drew closer. Loki’s intentional avoidance of you, palpable. “Hi, Laufeyson.” you said cheerfully, plonking onto the sofa beside him. He grunted in greeting, scanning the words on the page at a steady pace. Tentatively, you reached and clasped the thick of the book, sliding it from his hand. You placed it on your lap, nestled amongst the folds of black satin. Loki’s hand remained in place, poised in the air. “How rude.” he said coldly, his eyes rising to meet yours with a wolf-like squint. You smiled, tilting your head. “So is reading at a birthday party. You should talk to people.” “I don’t like talking to people at these things. Everyone is so…” he grimaced, looking towards the crowd. The team hung off each other in various stages of inebriation, laughter and raucous shouting exploding every few seconds as hits of the 90’s played at full blast. Loki sighed. “I prefer it over here. It’s quieter. And the company, infinitely better.” You scooted closer, leaning towards him as you both stared at the jovial mass of your colleagues. The movement nudged against Loki’s thigh, making him flinch. “Even if I’m here?” you said innocently as you turned your face to his, batting your lashes. The god’s jaw twitched, his façade of bravado fading. He flicked his wrist, inspecting his nails. “Perhaps.” he purred, as you drank in the tantalising sight of his curled fingers. God, they were so long. Loki smirked, running a covetous gaze down your crossed legs and back to your face. “You look very pretty tonight.” he murmured politely, straightening against the sofa with an arm outstretched over the back. “Pretty?” you tutted, as you slid his book to the side. “That isn’t quite what I was going for.”
Loki’s brows slanted. “Oh? And what were you going for, exactly?” The deep pitch of his voice wavered as he rested a hand behind his head. He was nervous. You could see each controlled breath making his chest squeeze the buttons of his shirt; clinging on for dear life. The pulse point in his neck was thundering, a faint hue of pink just visible at the tip of his ear. “Fuckable.” you heard yourself purr.
Loki swallowed.
The fingers resting in his hair tightened, chin tilting upward as he inhaled sharply through his nose. “What are you doing?” he growled. Suspicious eroticism smouldered in his irises, cheekbones flashing in the low light. “I highly recommend that you choose your next words very carefully.” The thump of your heart was deafening as his stare lowered towards the hand creeping to his knee. “I think it’s time you tell me what you want, Loki…don't you?” you said quietly, fingers cupping the muscled curve. Both of you had been dancing around this for months. The flirting, the masked innuendos. And the touching...my god. The light brush of his hands on your waist as he made his presence known; a gravelled ‘excuse me’ whisping in your ear as he passed with a lingering smoulder. “Why don’t you tell me what I want?" he rumbled. "You seem to be very sure of yourself tonight.”
You and Loki’s legs were crossed towards each other, calves grazing as you shuffled closer. Your bare skin slipped against the luxurious fabric of his suit trousers, cologne filling your nostrils, wafting from the sliver of skin visible at the top buttons of his shirt. He smelled like expensive hotels and filthy, decadent deeds. Rich oak-smoked masculinity seeping into the primal centre of your brain.
“You want me, Laufeyson…” you murmured, beginning to lightly run a fingertip up his crossed leg. The material brushed your skin with the lightest touch. Just enough to make him tingle. Loki’s breath hitched, his hips jolting back into the cushioning.
“Don’t deny it.” you whispered. Loki’s frowned, before clearing his throat. He shuffled on the sofa, the uncrossing of his legs making your hand retreat. He cast a solemn glance to the dance-floor, before focusing back on you. “I had no plans on denying it.” he drawled haughtily, a slight tremble betraying simmering depths. “I’m just a little...taken aback.” “Shy, you mean?” you murmured playfully. “Do you want me to stop?” you said, inching away. Loki’s hand flew out, grabbing your wrist. His eyes were narrowed, brow creased. “No.” he growled, letting his legs widen slowly. You wondered if he knew he had done it. “Although, I am a little...out of practice-” he cut himself off, placing your hand back on his thigh. Automatically, you squeezed the muscle of his solid femur, making him groan quietly. “Out of practice?” you cooed, shuffling so that your back was turned to the crowd by the bar. “Has the great Loki Laufeyson not gotten laid in a while?”
A whimper slid past his lips as your hand moved higher, skating lightly up his thigh. Two inches forward, one inch back. Loki shook his head. “Purely... i-intentional, you understand…” he managed through erratic breaths. You nodded sagely. “Of course.” you teased, enjoying Loki’s deepening scowl. You could see the fabric around his crotch tightening beneath the flashing lights, thick creases appearing around his hip where his cock was hardening beneath your delicate touch. The god’s smouldering eyes were filled with shameless fantasies, pupils wide with desire as you inched higher. He thrust upward lightly, a hiss filling the air between you as he grit his teeth. The swell of your cleavage heaved directly in his line of sight as your lips grazed his cheek. “Do you masturbate to me, Loki?” you whispered, a thrill rushing through your blood as you pulled back, watching his reaction.
He paused, his mouth hardening in a thin line. The god studied the curve of your knowing smile before nodding twice. Slowly. He kept his chin low on the second as your fingers trailed over the rock hard column straining against his hip. Loki let out a juddering sigh, abdominals clenching visibly beneath his perfectly fitted shirt. You drew closer once more, letting your moist lips brush against the angle of his jaw. “Do you fuck yourself to the thought of me in your empty bed, being your little plaything?” “Gods…” Loki gasped quietly, his legs trembling with the effort of resistance. You smiled. “Or maybe you would be my plaything. Would you like that?” You slid your hand up his chest, turning his face towards yours. “I bet we could teach each other so many things, Loki of Asgard.” you hummed seductively, biting your lip. “And I bet you look so fucking good on your back, palming yourself as you moan my name. Don't you?” Loki’s brows knitted together, twitching. “I can only imagine the dirty ways you've had me with that perfect cock of yours…” you groaned in his ear a final time, hearing him whimper quietly in response. “-How do you know it’s p-perfect?” he grunted, an attempt at humour in his increasingly desperate state. You laughed softly, rubbing your palm firmly up the seemingly endless shaft bound beneath the cotton. “Call it, intuition.” you murmured, pausing to suck his earlobe between your teeth.
Loki groaned again, louder this time. “Shhh…” you hushed, fighting to contain your glee. He whipped his head round, his hand flying to yours resting teasingly on his pulsing cock. Dark curls framed his exquisite face, those bottomless eyes searching yours as he looked for any hint of insincerity. His breaths short. “Truly, I would not wish to give you false hope of satisfaction. It really has been a whil-” His almond eyes widened as you pressed a finger to his lips. They were moist with breath hot with desire, the condensation of his desperation. “I’ll take care of you, Loki…” you said slowly, walking the fingers of your other hand up his flat stomach. "Don't worry about that." Every word felt like syrup, each one more laboured than the last as wet arousal slid in your panties. “I just... really...need to fuck you tonight. Does that sound like a good idea?”
Loki nodded again, eyes darkening. You slid the fingertip resting on his cupid’s bow down, grazing over his jawline as you pressed your chest to his, leaning forward to claim him with a kiss. Finally. His lips parted, gazing up at you with beautiful desperation, head resting on the back of the sofa. His submission, imminent.
“Not here.” he choked suddenly before your lips met, raising his head to eye the buzzing crowd with suspicion. “Are you ashamed of me?” you jibed with a coy smile, pawing at the next button on his shirt before spreading your palm against his chest. He was so fucking hard. “Far from it, Agent-” he growled, embers of the Loki you knew from the battlefield lighting the air around you like stars. He ground his teeth together, a low exhale making the thick vein in his neck stand erect as he leant forward. Loki’s nose traced the line of your cheekbone, exhaling sluttishly in your ear with a licentious moan. “I fear that if I were to kiss you now, I would not be able to restrain myself.” You inhaled against his skin, feeling him shudder with shameless need as his murky spiced cologne wafted hot in your nostrils. “Let’s take this party upstairs then, shall we?” you smouldered, feeling him shiver again beneath the graze of your lips.

Over the last week, I decided to go ahead with bookmarking all the fics I've recommended over the years on AO3 since I abide by tumblr poll results always (and man pour one out for all the fic that never made it to AO3 or has since been deleted, sooooo many gems lost to time!) and it was a bit more than the ~3,000 I was expecting:
Tumblr media
Hopefully, this will be easier than browsing the hundreds of recs posts I've made, since you can filter for any of the author's tags now! These are mostly focused on Star Wars and DC fandom, but I did my time in the anime mines and occasional tours through some TV fandoms or movies. You can dig into everything unfiltered and start your own filtering, or the bigger fandoms you'll find:
MAJOR FANDOMS: Each of these should have 100+ at minimum and, in the case of Star Wars, literally almost half of them are in that fandom. Look, Star Wars fandom might be a trash fire in a lot of ways, but it is ON FIRE with some good fic. (Older bookmarks not guaranteed to match my current sentiments, especially re: the Jedi, but they did catch my fancy at that point in time!)
STAR WARS: - All Star Wars -OR- All Star Wars minus the Obi-Wan/Anakin ship - OR- Nothing BUT Obi-Wan/Anakin
BATMAN/DC: - DC can sometimes be tricky, but you can do a Batman* search and get most of them (though, sometimes Nightwing* or Young Justice* or Superman* will catch some of the others). Honestly, though, you might want to just do a search for what character or dynamic you like and have fun from there, because otherwise you're getting a face full of my Dick Grayson Is The Center Of The Universe And I'm Making That Everyone Else's Problem agenda. ;)
MARVEL/MCU: - Marvel* will probably get most of the various properties, though you may want to filter for Defenders* or Guardians of the Galaxy* if you're interested -OR- Marvel* without the Thor/Loki - These focus a lot on the Thor* fandom if you want to witness the results of like 8 years of constant voracious reading in that fandom (Minus the ship), because, seriously, I read a LOT of Odinson family fic. - Bonus, just do a search for Maximoff* to find some really good X-Men: First Class-verse because, listen, I have been ALL ABOUT the Maximoff twins since long before the movies or MCU brought them over and I will DIE ON THE HILL of "Marvel, make Magneto their bio-dad again or I'm never reading another comic of yours ever".
TOLKIEN/LORD OF THE RINGS/SILMARILLION/HOBBIT: - Tolkien* -OR- Hobbit* -OR- Lord of the Rings* searches will turn up most of my Elf-hunting, I primarily focus on the Sindar Elves, but look I can't resist my problematic Feanorian faves or that I will die on the hill that Fingolfin is the best ever. (You have NO IDEA how sad I am that so much fic on Stories of Arda or FFNET is not easily bookmarked on AO3, sob. I externally bookmarked a few of the bigger ones, but sooo many shorter faves are missing from my recs tag.)
CLAMP: - X/Tokyo Babylon legitimately bums me out because it's not a huge fandom and yet so much of what was written was pre-AO3 and lost when CLAMPesque went down or was never brought over from Livejournal, yet this fandom (well, the Seishirou/Subaru pairing) still burns brightly in my heart.
MINOR FANDOMS: Ones that probably only have under 100 bookmarks (often around the 20-30 bookmarks range), but will at least give you a place to start! ANIME/MANGA: Bleach | Cardcaptor Sakura | Dragonball | Finder no Hyouteki/Viewfinder | Katekyou Hitman Reborn! | Kuroko no Basuke | One Piece | Sailor Moon | Madoka Magica | Naruto | Princess Tutu | Trigun | Weiss Kreuz | Yuri!!! on Ice
BOOKS: Chrestomanci | Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint
DRAMAS: Nirvana in Fire | The Untamed -OR- Modao Zu Shi
TV SHOWS/MOVIES: Community | Game of Thrones -OR- ASOIAF | Good Omens | Hannibal | Highlander | The Old Guard | Our Flag Means Death | Stranger Things
VIDEO GAMES: Dragon Age: Inquisition | Final Fantasy 8 | Genshin Impact | Okami
BANDS: Arashi
All right, whew, that was actually a fun project, despite how much work it was to hunt down a lot of older faves to see if they were on AO3, hopefully you'll find this useful!

I got a little inspiration from Percy Jackson, if you haven’t read/watched it dw you don’t have to.
Reader who was claimed by a god in the series (maybe Loki for shits and giggles) and getting sent to the ror world.
Reader doesn’t confront their god parent counterpart and settles with the humans but somehow the warriors are gods find out. Especially if they found out about many Demi gods not getting claimed because the gods irresponsibility or that Loki “technically” readers biological parent, maybe he holds that against everyone else.
I’m not super well versed in this series, but I am getting into it, I had no idea there were so many books for it! Let alone the one movie that I have seen and the new series coming out. I did my best with what you provided for me.
-It had been strange for you, learning you were a demi-god, a child of a god- of Loki himself. It was a process to learn that the man who raised you was not your biological father, but he was still your papa.
-When you had been claimed as Loki’s child there were many who were quite shocked, as you had been his only child- he was one who didn’t go around like some of the others.
-You learned about that side of the world, the world of what you had only learned was mythology, and the other demi-gods like you.
-There were many who were demi-gods, but many had not been claimed by their parent, for one reason or another, something that did break your heart, as all children should know their true parent, at least to be acknowledged.
-To you, the bigger shock was falling through a portal and landing in Valhalla itself! However, the gods you came across were not the ones you recognized, they looked different and some acted different.
-Many were welcoming to you, learning about you and the world you came from, learning of all the demi-gods- the children of their counterparts.
-Many were stunned to learn that not many of their counterparts wanted to claim their children, some finding it too much of a hassle, some were the result of a broken promise to not have any more children, and other reasons.
-Loki was overjoyed, hugging you from behind when you revealed that your parent god actual did claim you, and it was him!
-Loki was relentless, being such a gremlin to the other gods, “This is my child- do you know who your children are?” you found him to be amusing, finding it funny that he was such a gremlin as other gods wanted to find their own children in your world, claiming them so they could be brought to this world to be taken care of properly, to learn about their abilities and grow up in a safe environment.
-You felt warm, seeing the difference between this world and your old world, seeing so many of the gods wanted to find and claim their children.
-Loki was a character- he was funny, sarcastic, always pulling pranks and he wanted you to join in with him, something Odin was praying that you wouldn’t- hoping that would be karma for Loki, that you wouldn’t be a prankster like him.
-The day you pranked Loki, with a well-planned and throughout prank using rubber ducks hidden everywhere, was the day he hugged you close, comically crying that he was so proud of you, “My baby is a prankster!!”
-Odin could only hold his face in his hands, dread filling him as he didn’t want to deal with two pranksters as Loki cackled maniacally, holding your hand as he dragged you along to some bonding.

When Tom Hiddleston landed his career-changing role in Marvel’s Thor back in April 2009, he never dreamed he would be playing the character for nearly 15 years. To be fair, no one did—except maybe Marvel’s mastermind Kevin Feige, who had begun laying the cinematic groundwork for a multi-billion dollar franchise. At the time, Hiddleston happily threw himself into extensive research and prep to play the duplicitous brother of Thor (Chris Hemsworth).  “I was cast in April 2009, and I had about eight months to build the character from the ground up,” Hiddleston says on this week’s Little Gold Men. “So that was a deep dive into everything Loki from any comic book, any Norse myth, any saga, everything—from the whole run of Marvel comics to the ancient Scandinavian stories, and how he pops up in The Ring cycle for Wagner, and Jim Carrey is wearing the mask of Loki in The Mask.” Hiddleston was trying to discover “this sense of, what's Loki's impact on human imagination and culture? And then synthesizing all of that into the story we’re telling. That was such a delightful period of discovery and curiosity.”
Hiddleston’s scene-stealing portrayal made him an instant fan favorite, laying a formidable foundation for a character who went on to appear in six more films and the stand-alone series Loki. The two-season series threw the character into a new dimension and timeline, stripped him of all his creature comforts, and gave the actor new challenges to tackle.
“In successive iterations, [my approach] has been, how do I keep it interesting?” he says. “I genuinely say this to myself and to others: ‘We're not reheating yesterday's meal in the microwave. We're cooking up something new.’ It's trying to find new ingredients or new challenges for the character, for us as actors, so that it feels like the same person is growing. Because that's what human beings do. They don't stay the same, they grow. Sometimes they regress, but there's always movement.”
Hiddleston has gone on to star in a wide array of projects outside the Marvel universe, of course, from his Emmy-nominated, Golden Globe-winning work in The Night Manager to Jim Jarmusch’s acclaimed romantic vampire drama Only Lovers Left Alive and Steven Spielberg’s epic War Horse. But he’s definitely spent the most time with the God of Mischief. And though no official announcement has been made, the final episode of Loki season two strongly indicates the closing of a formative chapter.
The actor and executive producer stopped by Little Gold Men for a thoughtful discussion about the gift of developing and playing a single character for so long, the surreal fun of working with drama school classmates turned costars Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Wunmi Mosaku, and getting to come up with the character's last line (for now). Listen below, where you can also read excerpts from the conversation.
Vanity Fair: Did the series version of Loki feel a little more stripped down, or did you have the same kind of mindset playing him as you did in the films? Tom Hiddleston: Yes. I think it was stripped down literally in the sense of taking away the costume, but stripped down spiritually and in his soul. I thought [the concept] was such a brilliant idea, and it wasn't mine. It was [executive producers] Michael Waldron and Kevin Wright, and the great and the good at Marvel Studios. I thought for any character, if you were presented with your life and watching a kind of highlight reel of it, what would it add up to? Would it be satisfying? Would it be meaningful? Would it be amusing? Would it be disappointing? And I thought to do that with Loki especially, as it's the journey of a life that the audience is familiar with, but he hasn't seen it. I just thought it was a brilliant conceit. And then I leaned into this idea of the leopard being challenged to change his spots. Because you'd have to if your life ended up in murder by Thanos and humiliation. You'd want to try something new.
And that was really fun, developing a story which was actually very philosophical. It asks the question of Loki, as I hope it asks the question of all of us: Are we in control of the course of our lives? Do we have any free will, and can we break free from any kind of predetermination? It seemed like a great question, and a fun way to ask it.
You’re also an executive producer on the series. How did you take on that role? What did you get to do?
Honestly, it was such an honor and I loved it. I loved the extra imagining and problem solving. I was invited into the writer's room really early, season one, even earlier on season two. And to borrow the words from Lin Manuel Miranda, to be in the room where it happens, and to sit around the table and break story and crunch through the great creative ‘what if’ questions—what if Loki did this? What if Mobius [Owen Wilson] did that? What if they couldn't find Sylvie? What if the TVA ran on an energy source, and it wasn't energy, it was time?
Can you take any credit for bringing Ke Huy Kwan or your RADA buddies Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Wunmi Mosaku on board? I love that that was a little bit of a through-line, that you all got to work together.
Well, when their names came up, Gugu and Wunmi particularly, I was able to say, those guys are great. And Ke was just an amazing idea because actually, [his character] Ouroboros was coming to life on the page. Somebody suggested Ke, and Everything Everywhere All At Once had just come out. And I was like, genius: somebody call him now before we lose him. He was so joyful and optimistic and happy to be there, so honored to be there. He'd wanted to be in a Marvel project his whole life, I think, and, and he brought everything and more to that character.
The day he landed, he came from the airport straight to the studio, probably thinking, ‘I'll just say hello and go back to my digs.’ And Owen and I were actually rehearsing the scene before Mobius and Loki meet OB for the first time. And he came in and he listened. And then we got to the bit where we were like, ‘You're in the next bit. Do you want to do it?’ He said ‘Okay!’ And he stayed and rehearsed for three hours. I think he felt completely crazy having just [traveled] across the continents, but it was so brilliant. And the chemistry was so immediate between the three of us, and so funny. We all love Ke.
Thinking about your journey with this character and all the places he has taken you, has there been a surreal aspect to it? I think about you being in drama school with Gugu and Wunmi—now you're getting paid to play.
It's a wonderful question, and I'm never unaware of the great gift that this job is. Especially because it happens all the time,: I go out into the world and I meet young people or children, and they're so amazed that they’re meeting Loki. I'm obviously not Loki, but the response is so immediate and so emotional and so joyful. What a gift. It's the best job in the world. And I never dreamed back then that I would be part of something with such reach and for so long. It just is the most unlikely, surprising, delightful thing. And we—Wunmi and Gugu I've known for a long time. It is amazing to look and go, ‘Can you believe we're here, we're doing this?’ It is exciting too, because it feels right in some way and they're great actors. They are brilliant.
Do you get recognized as the character, or are people starting to recognize you for your other work?
Oh, it's always different. I went to a friend's birthday party the other day—a friend and his wife, both turning the same age. They got a taco stand. I went to get my taco and the guys were like, ‘Only Lovers Left Alive, man. Love that film.’ And I said, ‘Thank you very much. That's very kind.’ Some people say The Night Manager. Some people stop me in the street and go, ‘It's you! You're the dancer.’ And they're referring to some talk show, some bit of dancing I did on a talk show from like a thousand years ago, which really tickles me.
Speaking of dancing, I wanted to bring up your physicality. With the most recent season of Loki in particular and that time slip, did you have to have massages and stretch after? Because it seems like such a jarring movement.
It's jerky, yes. I had to put my body under a kind of relentless physical stress. But I think it pays off in the way it's presented. In terms of movement and physicality, it comes from my own admiration for other performers when I sense that there is a really, alive and visceral physicality in the performance. Some of people are great actors, very cerebral, very intelligent, but sometimes not always fully embodied. And I love the actors who are giving me a sense that the whole body is occupying whichever space that is. They could be on a horse, they could be driving a car, they could have just run in through the jungle. I don't know, it could be anything, but a real sense of physicality is always something I admire in other actors.
One of my favorite things in doing a little research about your work on this season was that you got to craft Loki’s last lin,e and it also maybe came from going on a run. Can you talk about that? Well, first on running, I love it and it is a big part of my life. And a big part of my creative life. Running outside, in space, in the world with only your own legs to carry you and your own breath to fuel you, I find incredibly freeing. And it's where I do some of my best thinking and dreaming and imagining. Things bubble up from inside you. So I often run at the beginning of a day, very early and with an awareness of what's coming, what the scenes of the day are. Sometimes things will bubble up. And maybe that's just extra oxygen in the brain, who knows?
But to the point about that last line: one of the things I kept trying to guide our team back to was that the whole series, both seasons, was really about finding purpose, or re-finding, re-defining, re-discovering a sense of purpose. And I think a primal need in all of us, is that we need our lives to mean something. So I kept coming back to this line from The Avengers, ‘I am Loki of Asgard and I am burdened with glorious purpose.’ And we kept thinking, well, if Loki has a second chance, he gets to redefine his purpose or re-imagine it. I went for a run and was listening to some film scores, and it was a beautiful day. I was thinking about the journey of playing this character and where it started, and all the people that I have had the great good fortune to work with and become friends with—that completely unique kind of soul-sharing relationship where you make something together. And I remembered the end of the first Thor film, and how emotional that felt and. I just suddenly thought, that's what he should say—but it should mean something completely different. Loki's last line in Thor, directed by Kenneth Branagh, is, ‘I could have done it, Father. I could have done it for you, for all of us.’ And of course his effort to gain his father's pride has been misguided and ill thought-out. And then at the end of Loki season 2, 14 years later, he turns to Mobius and Sylvie and says, ‘I know what I want I know what kind of god I need to be. For you. For all of us.’ It felt very resonant somehow. I hope the audience picked up on that.
Are you able to just say goodbye when it's wrap time, or do you have any sort of meditative, formal way of saying goodbye to a project or a character?
That's such a good question. I think it's a very honest, immediate feeling of relief, which they say is the most intense human emotion. You'd think it was anger or grief or something, but actually relief is—the way relief kind of washes through you, and a sense of finality that some finish line has been crossed and there are no more miles to run. And for me anyway, huge amounts of energy have been stored inside myself which had been poured out over time—over maybe 20 weeks or however many months.
I love that feeling of completeness. The great joy of what I do for a living is that it involves very intense, very close working with a team. And the pride that you can feel with your teammates, with your crew, with your cast—you just hang around and say goodbye, but it never really is goodbye. And there's just a sense of, like, “that'll do, pig,” you know? Yeah: that'll do, pig.

Stray (A Lokitty Tale): Part 2
Part 1 link
A/N: Hi all. This began as a prompt suggestion by @mischief2sarawr and has since grown three heads and answers to no one. It's now a multipart, very fluffy, story about Lokitty. I have no idea where I'm going with this except definitely to the comfort district of fluff town...maybe driving through a little traffic jam of angst on the way there.
Synopsis: It's 1971 and you're a single shop girl living in the tumultuous, often damp, city of Seattle, feeling lost and alone. Meanwhile, Loki (under the guise of D.B. Cooper) is on the run from Thor the moment he jumped out of that plane. After crash landing in a dumpster and disguising himself as a stray cat to lay low, he becomes your beloved feline room mate and an unusual friendship begins to grow.
Stray: Part 2
While the human was away, Loki sprawled out his long Asgardian body across your floor, passing the time with your extensive collection of books. It felt good to him, having arms and legs to stretch again, and opposable thumbs to turn the pages. Staying in a conjured form for too long could be taxing, and the breaks would be welcome, especially since he couldn't be sure how long this little arrangement might continue.
The god of mischief smiled a bit to himself, recalling how you had bustled around in your little uniform, getting ready for your day. You were obviously in a hurry, but you still took the time to stroke his fur and scratch under his chin while you talked to him.
“Good morning, little guy. I left some food out for you and the heater on. I'll be home late...hopefully with all the stuff you might need. Please don't pee in my shoes.”
Suddenly you stopped and rolled your eyes, raising up again to hurry out the door. “Jesus Christ, I'm talking to the cat again.”
Loki chuckled at that (well, meowed with amusement) and found, to his horror, that he was actually sad to lose your company for the day. He found he was becoming very curious about you.
Well, come on, he told himself, it's just that you're naturally curious and it's not like you have much else to occupy your time for now. Might as well observe the mortal.
Satisfied with his rationalization, he listened for the door to click shut and your heels to click down the hall. Once he was sure you were gone he returned to his usual body, and busied himself with your bookshelf, running his pale graceful fingers over the spines with delight.
She certainly has eclectic taste, he mused. The little apartment was crowded with books of all kinds; everything from Shakespeare to comic books, and where there weren't books, there were tidy stacks of records (again, a very eclectic assortment). His took it all in with gusto, fascinated by his choices of entertainment.
He blazed through several mystery novels (which were underwhelming as he was always well ahead of the reveal). Seeking the next read, his perceptive eyes landed on an antique volume, Norse Mythology. He smirked as he slid the book into his palm.
Now this should be interesting.
In a predictably self-indulgent move, he looked for an entry about himself, landing unfortunately on a beautifully illustrated page about Thor. He crinkled his nose in disgust and let the book drop to the floor, but as the tome landed with a thunk, it dropped open to the chapter with his name as the title. He lowered himself to the floor, laying on his belly as he read about his glorious self.
The description wasn't the most flattering. It painted the trickster god as a cruel and violent nuisance, but he had to admit that wasn't entirely inaccurate. There was, however, a glorious illustration in the style of an illuminated manuscript. Green and gold calligraphy snaked out the letters of his name and below it was a very handsome illustration highlighting his bright kaleidoscopic eyes and sharp rakish face (although they always got the hair wrong by painting it a garish shade of red). Oh well, what could one expect from foolish mortals.
His musing was suddenly interrupted by the sound of heels clicking down the hallway. In a panic he looked outside and realized it was already dusk. He had lost track of the time. As he heard your jostling and struggling to unlock the door one-handed, he quickly changed back to his feline form. Loki realized, a moment too late, that he hadn't had time to put the books back from where they laid sprawled out on the floor where he had been reading.
You finally shouldered your way inside, huffing and puffing, arms loaded with a heavy shopping bag. You set it down carefully and kicked your heels off forcefully, feeling weirdly satisfied that they smacked against the wall. (You always hated the damn things, and tended to punish them like this for the pain inflicted on your feet each day).
You smiled to where the sleek black cat was laying with his paws crossed delicately over the pages of a book, tail flicking lazily as if this wasn't at all odd. Loki noticed the quizzical expression on your face as you noticed the books on the floor. “Hey, buddy,” you chirped sweetly, “How the hell did you knock these off?”
“Mrrow,” the cat grumbled.
“Okay, okay. Keep your secrets you little magician,” you said, joining him on the floor and collecting the books. When you came to the volume under his paws, he refused to move them. He thought indignantly, I'm not done reading this! Though he was well aware he wouldn't be getting his way.
“Hrmmm,” you hummed, “Loki, the trickster...” as you traced your hand over the gold script. “He was always my favorite of the Norse gods, you know?”
“Meow?”
“Yeah! The tricksters always make life interesting, right?”
“Meroww.”
“See. I knew you'd agree with me.” You put a pensive finger to your lips. “He'd probably be a good namesake for your, huh, you mischievous scamp? I guess it's better than calling you “buddy” or “little guy” all the time.”
I should damn well think so, madam.
Loki watched curiously as you rose you to your feet, digging something out of your kitchen junk drawer. “Aha!” you exclaimed as you pulled out a green leather watchband (the clock was broken then lost long ago). Pulling out a marker you carefully wrote the name “Loki” in clear block letters on the tattered leather, then gently fastened the band around his neck. Smiling and stroking his fur with your warm hand you said, “Okay, Loki. You look very handsome,” you declared massaging his velvety cheeks with your thumbs. In return, you introduced yourself, saying your name and shaking his paw. “Nice to meet you, Loki.”
Loki wanted to protest this patronization, but your affection felt so pleasant, and it gave him a warm feeling to hear you call him “handsome”.
“Oh! I have...uh...stuff. I think this is the right stuff...Here, look, I've got a litter box and a little bed for you and I got a few different kinds of food. I'm not sure which one you might like best.”
You stopped abruptly, saying once again under your breath, “Jesus Christ...talking to the cat again, you lonely weirdo.”
Loki shot a paw out, tapping your arm and then nuzzling into it. And although you knew it couldn't be more than an animal trying to use you as a heating pad, it seemed like he was trying to say thank you, trying to say that he liked you talking to him and doting on him...and that he wanted to be held.
Crazy...I'm going crazy. I'm a crazy lonely cat lady, and I'm gonna die alone here someday and this cat is going to eat my eyeballs.
Still, it tugged your heartstrings as the little tomcat reached out its paws to your shoulders meowing and purring gently as it attempted to climb into your arms...and who were you to deny him?
Hesitantly, you reached out and held him against you, stroking gently and nuzzling your face against him.
You said quietly with a note of grateful awe, “Awww. I didn't expect you to be such an affectionate little guy.”
Neither did I. Loki thought, even more surprised than you were.

God of Stories!?
Tumblr media
Um... No, Aaron. God of Stories is title from Marvel and nowhere else.
I've read some of the stories and flipped through some Norse Mythology books. I am by no means an expert, but apparently I still have done more research than anyone making this series.
It would take one google search to find that "God of Stories" is not a thing from Norse Mythology.
God of Stories is specifically derived from Loki's pervious title of God of Lies.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"What does God of Lies even mean?" "What's a lie?" "A lie is a story told. That's all."
Becoming the God of Stories in the comics was Loki taking his fate into own hands. Loki deciding for himself for he is. Taking a negative quality "a lie" and reinventing it to be a positive "a story".
So, the big problem with trying to use the God of Stories title in the MCU is the fact Loki was never the God of Lies in the MCU. He's never called that, not even as a joke or insult. That's why it doesn't work.
Tumblr media
That makes no sense, Loki's new title should be god of time or at most god of destiny/fate. Loki isn't writing stories or telling the stories he's preserving the timelines. He interacts with things as time travel and multiverse travel. He does not interact with this as a narrative.
Tumblr media
In the comics, Loki and Asgard, It's myth, legends and prophecy=Stories. Loki interacts with these things as narrative, as stories.
The series is more reaching, because it's more in the sense of "Everyone has their own story and Loki is now preserving time which is people's stories." But it could be changed to calling Loki the destiny or fate and nothing about the themes would change. The arc would be exactly the same they just wouldn't have said the word stories so much.

“I hate it when Mom and Dad fight,” Sweetie muttered, just loud enough for your benefit. You ignored her just as you ignored the rest of the staff all week. They weren’t stupid, they could pick up on the tension between you and Loki.
You weren’t ignoring him, not completely. He’d throw too big of a temper tantrum. But he was also unwilling to talk about what happened when you saw Thor. You just wanted him to budge, even a little.
He had forced you to confront things you hadn’t been ready to. Forced to draw out those deep grooves in your heart and put them up to a mirror in all its ugly glory. You cried in front of him. Bared your soul and body to him in a way you never had before. And what did he do? Completely shut you out.
You couldn’t survive in half a relationship. So sue you. You weren’t a half measure type of person. You loved and hated in absolutes. You didn’t know how to give up. It was why you were still looking for your family five years later with all evidence pointing to the inevitable truth: Thanos snapped them away.
Your heart cracked thinking of such a thing. That they were just…gone. There was no body to bury, no tomb to mourn. You couldn’t accept it yet. You couldn’t look your siblings in the eyes and tell them that there was no hope left to give.
So no. You weren’t giving up on Loki and you didn’t care how old he was, how powerful, or how much he considered himself a god. He would have to use his big boy words.
“Sweetie, I’m expecting a visitor today. Please make sure to notify me,” you said. It wasn’t her job, but you smiled at her so that she got the message.
“Do we need to Parent Trap them?” Honey asked, not bothering to be subtle. She sat with her usual suspects hunched over cups of coffee, bottles of water or juice, and random pastries.
You grabbed your coffee, unable to fight the smile at the reference. Movies were something you all enjoyed once coming to Earth. As far as being stranded, it wasn’t that bad of a place to be. You all have torn through plenty of movies so far, Parent Trap being among the favorites. You were still shocked that the little girl wasn’t a real life twin.
You walked over to the table while the group looked at you expectantly. Some leaned forward as if you were going to share something juicy. Others looked almost genuinely worried for you. You hated the pity. You didn’t owe them an explanation.
“The saboteur has been too quiet lately, so make sure you keep your eyes peeled. This person likes to watch the chaos from the front seat,” you said. You smiled when they groaned and leaned back.
“Princesa, please! We cannot live like this!” Honey said, her face scrunching up comically into a heartbroken frown.
“You make it sound like we’re in Hel,” you said and chuckled.
“He’s miserable without you,” Sugar said.
You took a sip of coffee to stop yourself from going on a rant. You were their boss, not their friend. Though, some dark pleasure rippled through you at the thought of him suffering. You hoped your scent still lingered in his bed. The gods knew that you tossed and turned in your bed thinking of him between your legs.
And…that was enough of that thinking. You took a deep breath. “Loki is a god, as he likes to remind us. He’s fine,” you said.
They didn’t believe you. You didn’t give a shit. You had more pressing matters to worry about. Like supply requests and restock. A prickling awareness settled over you and you straightened up.
Eyes snapped towards the door. This was all so dreadfully dramatic. You turned towards the door and saw Loki looking as delicious as ever. He couldn’t be that miserable and still look that damn good. It was unfair. His hair should be messy, clothes unkempt. Something.
Your eyes skittered over his before you looked away. It still hurt too much that he didn’t trust you with the truth. And you weren’t the begging type. So you walked over to him. “Loki,” you said with a nod.
“Is it me or is it fucking icy right now?” You heard somewhere behind you.
“Mom and Dad need to figure it the fuck out,” you heard as well.
“Darling, good morning,” he said. He stood and stared at you, making it hard for you to deny that there was anything amiss. He also blocked the damn door.
“Morning,” you said, nodding towards the door. Loki dug his hands in his pockets. You glared at him but his face didn’t change. Nothing about him did. Your hand was beginning to shake. You longed to run your hands through his hair, pull him to you, and demand kisses and smiles.
The staff was right, this was icy. Nothing like the heat and passion he was capable of. You moved to walk past him and he cut you off.
“We have to talk about the VIP list tonight,” he said. There. A wince. A crack. A glimpse into that stormy brain of his.
“Well in hand, Loki,” you said. You smiled, turned around and bowed for the audience. “And scene. Back to work, you bunch of lazies,” you said. The tension in the room melted a fraction before you shoved past Loki and out into the hallway.
Loki trailed behind you. He made no sound but you were attuned to him like never before. You were always aware of him before. How he moved, how he talked, that smile that never failed to trick and tease. But it was amplified now. As if invisible strings connected the both of you.
“Darling, stop,” Loki said. You took a deep breath at his deep timbre. That voice. Hell, let’s be honest. Everything about him drove you crazy. And you had resisted for five long, beautiful, torturous years. It was hard to quit cold turkey.
Still you marched down the hallways towards your office. You weren’t going to make a scene here.
Loki’s strong fingers wrapped around your arms, pulling you to a halt. You swung your arms wide, careful to avoid any slippage of your coffee. You growled, facing Loki finally.
“You’re such a child,” you hissed.
“You’re the one ignoring me like one,” he said.
“I’m not ignoring you, I’m busy. Work, remember? The thing you hired me for?” You asked.
“Fine, then you’re fired,” he said.
You giggled. You immediately shut up because it wasn’t funny, not at all. You drank your coffee to hopefully scald your throat and prevent you from letting any more giggles escape. You weren’t done being angry.
“You won’t even look at me anymore,” he whispered. His hand left your arm and he brought it to your face. He stopped before touching you and you finally looked into his eyes. The sight nearly robbed you of breath.
Away from prying eyes, he let you see the raw pain. The whites of his eyes were wide, mouth straining, jaw clenching.
“Ready to talk about why you blew up at me?” You asked.
“I already said–”
“I have things to do, Loki,” you said. You turned on your heel. Turned away from that look in his eyes. If you stared too long, you’d cave. And you didn’t want to. You did the work and now he had to as well.
Loki didn’t leave it there. He followed you to your office where he waited for you to settle behind your desk. He leaned into the doorframe, watching your every move. You moved a pen here, opened a folder there. But there was no way you were getting work done while he was here. His presence made your brain foggy and hands shake.
Finally, the mounting pressure got to you. You slammed your hands on the desk and looked at him. “Why are you still here?” You asked.
He crossed his arms and took a deep breath. “I don’t like that you’re mad at me. Not when we’ve come so far,” he said.
You leveled him with a stare. “This is on you. You love to talk but won’t talk about this. With me,” you said.
“That’s not it,” he said with a scowl.
“If you won’t talk, I don’t know what to think,” you said.
His jaw flexed more as he spoke. You’d give anything to know what he was thinking, what he was running through his mind.
“Believe it or not, I have a hard time admitting faults,” he said, chuckling to cover what he said.
“So you can stick your dick in my mouth but can’t tell me what’s on your mind?” You asked.
“Don’t be so crass,” he said.
You’d have to be the bigger person here. Which you hated. But you took a deep breath and looked skyward, praying to the gods and ancestors in Valhalla for strength. “I told you no more running. I meant it. But as much as you say otherwise, I need this to be as equal as possible. You cannot demand everything from me and give none of yourself,” you said.
“People are entitled to lick some wounds in private,” he said.
“I’m not asking for every detail of your sordid history. I just want to know why you blew up at me. I only asked about why you didn’t want to speak to Thor,” you said.
Loki finally looked away from you, drawing his eyes downward. He frowned as he picked at an invisible lint on his jacket. “I can’t,” he said, with a sniff. He looked back at you briefly.
You slowly nodded. “At an impasse, then. Get out, Loki,” you said. Your voice sounded tired to your own ears. You were weary, downtrodden. Maybe it was unfair to demand so much from him, something he clearly didn’t want to talk about.
You had enough on your plate without worrying about Loki and his moods. You had decided over the course of the week that it hadn’t been a mistake sleeping with him. You had known bliss in his arms and that couldn’t really be a mistake. It just likely wasn’t going to happen again anytime soon. Not while he held on to whatever the fuck was preventing him from speaking.
Never one to listen, Loki approached your desk. He leaned over it, planting his hands on it and leaning further still. His hair dropped forward like a curtain pulling open for a dramatic scene. His face could technically qualify as a dramatic scene. So many lines and planes, mouth made for sin and eyes dancing with mischief.
“Darling, please. I–” he paused and just looked at you. His eyes moved, taking in your face. You didn’t know how you looked to him. Just another angry and bitter lover? A messy subordinate with a mouth that gave as good as it got? A once irreparably damaged Asgardian without a clue in the world?
“I don’t like this between us. I finally got you in my arms, in my bed. I finally got a peek inside and it feels like you’ve closed the doors forever,” he said.
“You’re the one unwilling to walk through it,” you said, softly.
“And have you told me everything then? Every dark and horrible secret in your past? Like where you run off to every few months, disappearing at the drop of a hat? Every scar on your skin?”
Your heart roared in your chest. It beat wildly, thumping against your rib cage. “You should know that I’ve shared far more than I ever cared to with you,” you said. You thought back to the day in his office when you finally let yourself feel.
For the first time in a long time, you stopped disassociating. Stopped trying to hold it all in. You stopped trying to take flight while your feet were planted on the ground. And he helped you.
“If you want to know where I disappear off to, I’ll tell you. It’s no secret. But only if I get to demand something too. Only if you let me in,” you said.
“Ask me for anything else,” he whispered. His voice was so soft, softer than a raven’s wing. He rounded the desk and moved to stand in front of you. He got to his knees and looked at you. He was still damn tall, practically eye level with you.
He grabbed your hand and brought it to his lips. “Ask me for anything else and I’ll give it. But not that,” he said.
He kept his eyes on your hand, his lips resting softly against it. You brought your other hand to push his hair behind his ear. “That is my price, Loki.”
He loosed a breath while your phone rang. The damn thing was still foreign, even after five years. You answered it. The front desk host let you know that your visitor was here.
You pushed your chair back away from Loki and moved around him. He said nothing and made no noise while you left the room. Your heart felt like a rock in your chest. Each step you took from him felt like lead in your shoes.
Still, you marched on. You walked to the front and greeted the Asgardian tracker you hired. He was impossibly tall, taller than Loki even. With smooth bronzed skin, short hair, but a host of tattoos criss crossing his bare arms. You didn’t know how he wasn’t freezing in this type of climate, but well, you weren’t going to complain.
“Erik!” You said, wide grin splitting your face and you hugged him.
He turned when he saw you, grinning. His smile was so heartbreaking. Why couldn’t you be head over heels for someone like him? He held on a second too long, having last seen him months ago.
You grew up with Erik in your village on Asgard, running through the streets and getting into all kinds of trouble together. You had entertained something between you many, many years ago, but it was clear that you were better off as friends. You had already given your heart away a long time ago.
You sat on a lounge chair in the front and tried to temper your expectations. But hope was a cruel thing. It cropped up, over and over no matter how many times you tried to squash and burn it within you. Erik settled next to you, but he wasn’t smiling.
“No word yet on your family. The universe is very large,” he said.
You nodded. You figured as much. You tried to hold it together, but throwing that door open within you opened yourself to it all. You felt the tears but you weren’t completely transformed. You blinked them away and squared your shoulders.
“I have people on it though. They’re out there,” he said.
You shook your head. “They’re not.” You took a shuddering breath at that realization. Five years was too long to keep searching for people that clearly weren’t here, wasn’t it? The fall of Asgard had to have spread by now. For half of life to be eradicated, even people who had never heard of Thanos likely knew his name now.
If not, well, they knew that those people were gone. Vanished from their lives. Turned to dust and never to be seen again. If Thor was here, all hope was truly lost. The Avengers he so affectionately ran with over the years had gone all but silent. If they were hopeless…
“Perhaps it’s time to involve Heimdall,” Erik said.
You shushed him. You didn’t need that man turning his gaze on you. He was so eerie, seeming to know so many things. His eyes, like galaxies, were far wiser than your age.
“I can’t. I can’t just walk up to him and ask. Maybe it’s time to call it,” you said. You didn’t want to say it. That same crack in your chest split wide open at the thought of stopping your search.
Erik grabbed your hand. “Hey, I’m not giving up,” he said.
You patted his hand. “I’ve taken enough of your time. You have more important people to track down,” you said. Your voice warbled. You hated this. This was why you kept this shit locked away and buried at sea.
“No one is more important than your family. They’re my family too,” he said. He scooted closer to you and drew you into his arms. You greedily took the comfort. He was always so warm and solid, giving the best hugs you’d ever known.
“My, Darling, who’s your friend?” Loki’s voice cut into what had been a sweet and peaceful moment.
You cracked one eye open, trying to disengage from Erik. But he was slower to let you go. He hadn’t missed the deadly tone of Loki’s voice. Where the hell did he come from anyway?
Erik stiffened, turning fully around to face the larger threat. Loki had a devilish smile on his face, but his eyes were seething.
“Loki, this is Erik,” you said. Before you could explain further, Erik stood up and blocked your view of Loki for a moment. Erik held out his hand and Loki shook it, keeping that smile on his face.
“Erik, haven’t seen you around,” Loki said. His eyes slid towards you and you inwardly groaned.
“Erik has–”
“I pop in every few months to check in on her,” Erik said.
“Every few months? Really?” Loki smiled at you. Shit, shit.
“He’s–”
“Any friend of Darling’s a friend of mine,” Loki said.
You narrowed your eyes at Loki. You didn’t know what game he was playing but you weren’t in the mood. “Erik has been looking into something for me. Right, Erik?” You stood up and nudged his shoulder to agree with you. His eyes were still trained on Loki. What was this, a fucking pissing match?
“I was just telling Darling that I’d like to meet more of her friends. We see so little of them,” Loki said. He sauntered around Erik, putting his arm around you. “I like to make sure she’s happy. Always.”
Your eyes bugged out of your head. Erik took in Loki’s arm around you and lifted an eyebrow. “Keeping secrets, are we?” Erik asked. He crossed his arms and stared at you, putting you on the spot.
You licked your lips slowly, trying to describe what you and Loki were to each other. Boyfriend? Boss? Occasional sadistic charmer?
Loki hugged you close and you looked at him. He smiled at you, leaning down to kiss your cheek. “Didn’t tell him about me? I’m a little hurt,” Loki said. Still with that damn smile. You were starting to panic. You might’ve been a little afraid of what he’d do.
Loki moved his right hand to lift up your chin and plant a small, but sultry kiss to your lips. You gasped and he drank it down with a low hum. “Always so private,” he said against your lips.
You were going to murder him. Your hands itched with magic dancing between your fingertips. A dagger? A sword? You were going to cut him down where he stood.
“Erik, he’s–”
“Loki, of Asgard, everyone knows,” Erik said. He raised his eyebrow at you but you didn’t know what he was trying to communicate.
“Will you two shut the fuck up?!” You yelled. You drew the attention of some patrons who cast little glances towards you. The host stood in the corner with a few staff members, Honey among them, as they stared at all three of you. They saw the kiss. Your shoulders deflated. There went the little bit of respect you had around here.
“Erik is a childhood friend who has been looking for my family. They went on a trip when the Snap happened so I don’t know if they’re out there, looking for us, or if they’re gone,” your breath hitched on the word ‘gone’ but you persisted. “Loki is…Loki. We’re figuring it out. Now, say hi to Denby for me,” you said, looking at Erik who slowly smiled.
You shoved off Loki’s arm around you. “As always, you’ve gotten what you wanted and made out like a thief,” you tossed at him.
“You’re no better than he is,” you told Erik.
You stormed off. Leaving everyone in the dust. An ache thumped in your head. You needed away. Away from here with all of its bullshit.
“Darling!” Loki called after you. This time, you heard his steps behind you, heard him walking down the hall. You ignored him. Your fists clenched and unclenched. Your teeth grated. You were fuming with nowhere to direct the anger.
Loki caught up to you outside of your office once more. You pushed him when he was in arm’s reach. “What the fuck was that?!” You yelled.
You were in the back, well away from any patrons. The hallways had music playing, soft muzak that kept up the hazy and alluring vibe of the club. Each room played its own music so there was no danger of being overhead. Except the staff. You imagined the rumors flying like wildfire, distracting the staff and performers. You were going to be sick.
“A miscalculation,” he said.
“What?” You said. He swooped in and waved his stake in the air like you were some prize he won over a miscalculation?
“I didn’t know about your family–”
“You would have. I would have told you. As always, you want and you want and you-”
“I have always maintained that I want you because you’re mine,” Loki said. All sense of propriety was gone. Extra eyes be damned. He advanced on you and pushed you against the wall.
“Completely mine. Mine to do with as I please,” he said. His lips traveled from your temple down to your neck, bypassing your lips. Your body instantly reacted. Craved him. Craved another hit of what he could bring you.
You grabbed his jacket and turned around, pushing him against the wall. He grinned as if he won. As if you would give in and forget all about your ultimatum. You licked the long expanse of his neck and his breath fanned over your skin.
You pulled back and smiled at him. He grinned back, hanging his head and looking up at you through his pretty eyelashes. Then you slapped the smirk right off of his face. He licked his lips as if he meant to taste the sting. You raised your arm again and he caught your wrist.
“Darling, not in mixed company,” he said. He gave you a wink. “Save it for later.”
“You are the most arrogant, infuriating, child-like, obnoxious–”
“Do keep going,” he interrupted.
“Confusing man I’ve ever met! You irritate the fuck out of me! You…bastard,” you said.
“I don’t know how else to be,” he said.
You yanked your wrist out of his hand. You were breathing too heavy. You couldn’t get enough air in your lungs. You wanted to smack him. You wanted to curse him. You wanted to toss him into hot lava and see if he’d melt. You wanted to kiss his stupid face.
“We promised no lies between us. And if you can’t give me that Loki, you can’t have me.”
He opened his mouth to say something, all hints of playfulness gone. But then the lights went out and the screaming started.

Tumblr media
“Rebecca, stop,” you whined, glaring at your oldest sister as she put your hair in pigtails.  You shifted, but she hit your back lightly with her brush, “oww!  Stop it, you meanie head!”
“Stop being a baby,” she sighed, rolling her eyes, “I’m trying to make you presentable!”
“We all have to look our best!” your second eldest sister chimed in as she helped your third oldest sister, “mommy and daddy are inviting over all the families and we get to find out who we are marrying today!”
You rolled your eyes and looked at Bethany, “is Winnie ripping your hair out too?”
Bethany shrugged as she sucked on her lollipop, “sissy gave me a sucker!”
You frowned and tried to look at your eldest sister once more, but she tugged on your pigtails yet again, “HEY!  I’ll tell mom!”
“Be quiet, (Y/N),” Rebecca muttered, “Winnie I told you that they didn’t get the suckers til they were done!”
Winnie giggled and your eyes widened, “wait…you have one for me?”
“Not if you don’t hush up and sit still,” your eleven year old sister grumbled, “so do what you’re told.”
“Yeah…yeah…whatever, Becca.”
“Oh god, they all look so grown up!” Mrs. Odinson cooed as she looked over each of the four Barnes girls.  She put her hand over her heart as she watched Rebecca curtsey to her, “oh…and so well-mannered.”
“Come on now, girls…be gracious hosts,” your mother urged as she invited the rest of the families in.  Mrs. Odinson was followed by her husband and their three children, Hela, Thor, and Loki, by Mr. Barton and his son Clint, Mr. and Mrs. Wilson and their two children, Sarah and Sam, and finally by Mr. and Mrs. Rogers, and their son, Steve.  You groaned when they funneled through the door, the boy just a year younger than your own brother, but just as small as you, even though he was eleven and you were seven.  You were snapped from your thoughts when your mother snapped in your face, “(Y/N)!”
“Sorry mum,” you all but whispered, throwing your attention to each of the families.  You held the edge of your skirt and copied your sisters, curtsying in front of them, before greeting each family, “Good to see everyone…thank you for coming!”
“George home?” Mr. Rogers asked, looking to your mom.
“Out back, Joseph,” she smiled softly, “I believe he said he had some things to discuss in the guest house with each of the men…”
“The contracts…” Winnie giggled, looking at Clint flirtatiously.
You found your eyes rolling as your second eldest sister, and nine year old watched the thirteen year old who happened to be eyeing her up and down.
The two idiots had been in love with each other since the day that they’d met, and each time they saw one another you were reminded of a play your father always read to you-Romeo and Juliet…but…well, without all the death.
They had stars in their eyes when they looked at one another, and saw each other as their worlds.
The men excused themselves and took the boys with them, while Hela and Sarah followed after their mothers, with yours leading them out to the tea room.
“How funny would it be if Winnie and Clint didn’t get married?” Bethany, your eight year old sister asked.
“Don’t even joke about that,” Winnie all but whimpered.  She clutched her hands over her heart and her eyes went comically wide, “I-I don’t know what I’d do if I couldn’t marry Clint.”
“Don’t worry…if I get him and you get Sam, I’ll trade you!” Bethany giggled.
“It doesn’t work like that,” Becca frowned, “Daddy will choose who we marry.  We are each promised to one of the families…that’s how it’s going to work.  You don’t get to trade them around like you two trade around headbands.”
Both Winnie and Bethany frowned.
“Well, who do you want to get married to, (Y/N?)”
You shrugged, “I don’t care much…so long as it’s not Steve Rogers…he’s the worst.  Winnie is in love with Clint…and Sam and Bethany like each other…so I guess I’d be okay with Thor…he’s like two of me…he’s way too old…right?  But I-I don’t know…maybe daddy will feel bad and let me marry Loki…he’s tricky.  I like him.”
Becca crossed her arms over her chest, “What’s wrong with Steve?  He-he’s a sweet boy!”
You rolled your eyes and started towards the stairs, not wanting to deal with the families or with what was going on, “Steve Rogers is gross, and he’s got cooties.”
“You’re so immature, (Y/N)!”
“And you’re so in love with him,” you groaned, giving your sister another look, “if you want to marry him so bad, tell daddy…”
“But the Rogers family is nearly as strong as ours,” she said quickly, trying to think of something, anything to keep you invested!”
“Steve Rogers isn’t a win in anyone’s book,” you sneered, “he’s a German Shepard in a Chihuahua body…any woman that gets stuck with him will be a penniless widow before the wedding day…you’ll be back at home with mommy and daddy before you reach your contract date.”
“Well that’s dark…” Bethany frowned.
“You’re so not romantic…” Winnie added in.
“GIRLS!” your mother called loudly.  You rolled your eyes, knowing that they were waiting for all of you in the tea room.
“You guys couldn’t have just let me sneak off...could you?” you sighed dramatically, “some sisters you are.”
“They would have noticed, (Y/N)!” Bethany giggled as she immediately changed her tone and skipped towards you.  You let go of the banister as she took your hand, “come on…let’s go get it over with…have some tea…and then find out who we get to marry.”
“I hope you end up with Steve Rogers,” you groaned, “you’re way too optimistic, Bethy…”
Tumblr media
“Oh, sweetheart…what are you doing back so soon?”
“Pretty cut and dry,” your father admitted as he pressed a kiss to his wife’s temple, “would you ladies care to join us out back?  I have the caterers out there and the party is ready to start after the formal announcements.”
“Party?” you asked, looking at your eldest sister.
Becca nodded, holding out her hand, “yeah…once mum and dad announce who we are marrying they’re throwing us pre-engagement parties…today.”
“I’m seven!” you scoffed, looking at her.
“And I’m eleven…come on, kid!”
You sighed and got off your chair, taking your eldest sister’s hand.  The group of women followed your mother and father out to the back where the caterers were already finished setting up a small feast for the five families.  You frowned when you saw the five tables.  The one in the center only had three chairs, where your brother Bucky was sat at.
Each other table had an additional seat where the families were supposed to be.
You looked nervously to your eldest sister while each family took their seats, leaving you and your sisters standing in front of everyone with your father.
He lifted a glass from a tray and was smiling as he held it up, “I’d like to thank each of you for coming out today…and for finalizing the agreements which will allow us to become a united front.  Not only will we run the East Coast, but the entire country.  We are creating an empire…and I am happy to stand along side you.  As each of you are aware, we’ve been hammering out the details of the arrangements for years now…but today was our final resolution.  Blood, sweat, and tears made this agreement…as you know, my only boy, Bucky, is set to marry the daughter of my second in command.  They’ve been promised to each other since they were toddlers…but I am grateful that each of you are so willing to accept my daughters into your fold and make them family as well.”
Each of the men held up their glasses, cheering to the alliance.
First to stand was the all father.  Mr. Odinson nodded at your father, “George…I’m proud to claim your eldest daughter, Rebecca as my own, so that she may marry my son Thor.”
Thor stood up and gave Rebecca a charming smile, before walking up to where you and your sisters stood with your father.
Rebecca gasped, her hand leaving yours as Thor stopped at the edge of the little stage, “Rebecca Barnes…will you marry me when you become a woman?”
Rebecca looked to her father before nodding, accepting the duty as a daughter of George Barnes.  He smiled as she took his hand and they walked back to the table together, sitting down.  Next to stand was Mr. Barton, the head of the Irish mob.
“From the day that Clint was born, I knew that he needed a strong lass to keep him in line…” he smirked, clapping his son on the shoulder, “someone smart and sweet…wise beyond her years…then we came across your little lass, Georgey…and she and my boy hit it off in’an instant…we’d be honored to accept her as our own.”
Clint smiled so wide you wondered if it hurt as he all but ran to Winnie.  You frowned as his eyes lit up, and your chances of a less-than admirable husband increased.
“I can’t believe I get to ask this…but marry me?”
Winnie giggled as she all but leapt into his arms, nodding excitedly.
The happy couple ran back to the table and set down together.
Next up Mr. Rogers stood, “George…we’ve been friends a long time…some would say that we were each other’s first allies…even though I’m from Italy and you’re from England…we’re like brothers…we have a deep bond that no one could break.  So when you approached me about an arranged marriage between my son and one of your daughters…I didn’t know what to say…but my boy…he’s been in love with your girl since they were little…”
You felt dread in your stomach as the 80 pound asthmatic boy scooted his chair out and timidly walked up to the stage.  He went straight to your father, “Mr. Barnes…you gave me first pick of any of your daughters…for that I’m truly grateful…I’m glad that I have your permission…Buck and I are already like brothers, much like you are with my father…and our alliance will only be strengthened by the union with one of your daughters.”
“You’re a good boy, Steve…”
“Thank you sir!” he smiled.  You exhaled as he slowly walked, stopping between you and Bethany.  You smiled as he turned, “Bethy…”
“Y-yes Steve?”
“Will you let go of your sister’s hand so that I may take it in marriage?”
Your eyes widened, and the dread hit you like a freight train.  Steve turned to you and smiled, “(Y/N)…I’ll wait for you to finish school…and I’ll build an empire so that you know I’m serious about our future…but I want you to know that it’s all for you…I want the honor of being your husband.”
“Oh fuck!”
“CONGRATULATIONS!”
“I don’t know if you’re congratulating me on graduating from school, or if you’re congratulating me on how I’m going to be ending my life soon.”
Rebecca frowned, slapping your arm, “stop it…that’s not a funny joke.”
“I’m serious…my life is over even before it gets started!” you grumbled as she pulled you into a hug.  You pulled away and looked to your older sister, “oh Beth…say we can run away together…please.  I don’t want to get married.”
“Being married actually isn’t that bad!” she giggled as she bit her lip, “and anyways…I kind of don’t want to…not with Sam and I expecting…”
Your eyes widened as you looked at your twenty year old sister, “BETHANY MARIE BARNES!”
“It’s Bethany Marie Wilson,” she corrected with a smile as your other sisters stared at her wide-eyed, “and yes…I know…it’s soon.  Sam and I talked about waiting until I finished my degree, bu-“
“You’re going to be a doctor, Beth,” Winnie laughed as she shook her head, “there’s no waiting, honey…”
“Oh thank god,” Rebecca smiled as she wrapped her arms around your other sister, “mom’s been hounding Thor and I to have a baby ever since Clint and Winnie had one…maybe she’ll give up on me for a second.”
“I thought you and Thor wanted a family,” Bethany frowned as she protectively put a hand over her non-existent bump, “Oh…are you two…”
“He cheated again,” she frowned, “big surprise.  He can’t seem to keep it in his pants long enough for me to get a proper test back on him and I’m not letting him slip into me after he slides into one of his little whores.”
You frowned, “it could be worse…you could be getting married to Steve Rogers at the end of the week.”
Rebecca raised her brow, “you’re still really on this?  After everything? At least you know he's only ever had eyes for you, regardless of how you've treated him!”
“Becca…I don’t want to marry Steve Rogers…”
“You really haven’t seen him since we were little, have you?” Bethany giggled, gently squeezing your arm.
“What are you talking about?” you asked, your brow furrowing, “seen him?  Bethy, we’ve been tucked away in England getting our schooling out of the way…I haven’t seen any of you since you’ve gotten married unless I got a Christmas card…”
“Well, trust me when I say this…you won’t recognize your fiancé…”
“Yeah, yeah, Bethy…let’s just get this party over with.”

LOKI SEASON 2 - END GAME THEORIES PART 1
This is going to be a super long post that will need to be divided into 2 parts due to the 10 image posting limit. Here's what I'll cover:
Part 1:
1.) The Original Timekeepers
2.) Trust as a Theme
3.) Social Intelligence is a Leadership Skill
4.) Mobius's Presence Through Food - Food is Socializing ... and Friendship
Part 2: (read: here)
5.) Mobius's Plotline
6.) Sylvie's Role
7.) John = Mobius?
8.) The Original Timekeepers & Time Paradoxes
THE ORIGINAL TIMEKEEPERS
I am 99.99% certain that the original 3 timekeepers are Loki, Mobius, and Sylvie, and that we are in a time paradox by which the future influenced the past. The lore and set design have repeatedly highlighted that there have always been THREE timekeepers.
Tumblr media
More than once, the camera has held on the TVA seal for an extended period. The seal above is from the past, when HWR was in power.
This seal is from the future:
Tumblr media
In both cases, the image of the seal remains the same. The dagger represents Loki, the hourglass (drawn like a mobius strip) represents Mobius, and the mask (that looks like shield but isn't) represents Sylvie, who can enchant. The papers covering the text appears intentional as well, a nod to the comics, "Loki: God of Stories".
And the writers, cunning folk that they are, are counting on the most avid fans to be too busy looking for scenes supporting their ships to realize that the end game is for Loki, Mobius, and Sylvie to trust and care about one another enough to protect all time(lines), always. Please note that I'm not an anti. I love shipping! It's fun. But an awareness of shipping is also a useful tool to keep the audience distracted from the narrative and cinematic hints that are right in front of our faces. These three need to become a team. The shots below (adored by Lokius fans, including me) foreshadow this in 2 ways:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
First, that Loki's character has progressed to the point that he trusts and supports Mobius. Second, that both shots are imbalanced. There needs to be a third person on Loki's other side to balance both shots' composition. The Heart of the TVA is missing its 3rd timekeeper: Sylvie.
Tumblr media
This shot is significant for several reasons, all of which are thematically connected. Despite there being two people on either side of Loki, the shot is still imbalanced. Loki is slightly closer to Mobius. In this scene. Sylvie is positioned at a distance, demonstrating lack of trust in both of them.
TRUST AS A THEME
Stepping back for a moment, S1 predominantly focused on Loki and Mobius developing trust in one another:
Tumblr media
By Season 2, that trust is well-established. Sylvie hasn't had enough time to build trust with either them. She continues to operate in a survivalist mindset. Her history justifies this: she's relied on herself since childhood. But not having anyone to trust is not the path to happiness, nor is it to the path to success when in the face of an annihilation event. Sylvie is still emotionally and psychologically where Loki was at the beginning of S1.
SOCIAL INTELLIGENCE IS A LEADERSHIP SKILL
I'm an older fan. If you've ever worked for a medium to large employer, the different types of managers that exist become apparent.
1. The micromanagers, managers who do not trust their staff and consequently create a tense environment that can become toxic where no one trusts one another.
2. The absent managers, managers who delegate and disappear, leaving their team feel uncared for.
3. The blurred-line manager, who's friendly and approachable but doesn't hold others accountable and doesn't know how to create and implement plans at a high level (out of fear of upsetting anyone), making their team feel frustrated with in-fighting and lost in terms of what the main goal is.
4. The authoritarian, a manager who follows the book to a T, is rigid, punitive, and has no compassion for individual circumstances.
5. The leader, a manager who takes the time to know team members individually, change their management style based on individual needs, keeps an eye on the big picture and ensure actions are taken toward it, holds people accountable but also makes time to make sure people are getting along.
Tumblr media
Renslayer, Brad, and Sylvie tearing Mobius down are foreshadowing, plot set-up, and red herrings. Mobius is not a perfect leader, but he is a strong one by virtue of having exceptional social skills, which Sylvie doesn't have because she's never had real friends before. It's not her fault. However, it is imperative that she move beyond this.
Tumblr media
And Loki, who has developed compassion, self-awareness, and personal accountability through Mobius's friendship and love, extends those things to Sylvie. He is gentle when he confronts her. He shares his experience with Thor because he knows where Sylvie is at mentally. But he also doesn't force her to come with him. He leaves her with the free will to choose.
MOBIUS'S PRESENCE THROUGH FOOD - FOOD IS SOCIALIZING ... AND FRIENDSHIP
In S2E4, Mobius's presence and influence are heavy in scenes in which he is not there. The pie scene is one of them, with the flickering lights and sweets sitting forlornly behind glass symbolizing that Mobius's sense of self (very much grounded in trust and hope in others, even if they are broken) is wavering. And as @charcubed noted in their INCREDIBLE meta here, everything goes wrong from this point. Why?
Having pie together was an opportunity to build trust and friendship with Sylvie.
None of them have the technical know-how to help OB, Victor, and Casey. The best thing they could have done is get out of their hair because too much overseeing leads to anxiety and anxiety leads to mistakes. Mobius knows this. What can they do in the meantime? Stress eat and integrate Sylvie as a member of the team.
Note that every moment Mobius makes to eat or drink is not only a moment to de-stress, it is also a moment he uses to bond with others and get to know them better. Renslayer (and later Loki, because he's become close enough to Mobius to know what comforts him) uses this method, too.
S1 - Whisky scene with Renslayer
S1 - Cafeteria scene with Loki
S1- Salad scene with Loki
S2 - Cracker Jack scene with Loki
S2 - McDonalds scene with Brad
S2 - Pie scene with Loki
S2 - Hot cocoa scene with Victor
Tumblr media
Knowing what people want and care about is critical to motivating individuals, and yes, this talent can be used as manipulation when the situation calls for it.
Socializing over food is also a means of feeling less alone. We tend to eat with people we trust and care about (a tradition meant for family, found or otherwise), or at the very least want to get along with.
The second scene where Mobius's presence is felt despite not being there?
Tumblr media
What does Victor dobwith the hot cocoa?
Tumblr media
He gives it to D-90.
Victor gives it to D-90 out of a sense of comradery, a basic human desire to share something nice with someone and maybe make friends.
But this moment leads to tragedy. As @charcubed explained, Mobius separating from Loki led him to comfort eat via hot cocoa. The hot cocoa caught Victor's interest. D-90 goes with Victor to check out the machine. D-90 is pruned, and Victor is separated from the team. This causes a delay in getting Victor prepped and out onto the Loom gangway, which causes the temporal radiation to build up so high, it's impossible for Victor survive. The Loom consequently explodes.
PART 2 HERE!
Thank you to @bebx and @mobius-m-mobius for responding to my asks which consisted of end game theories for Loki Season 2 (here, here, here, and here), and for @wowwwmobius for supporting my thoughts. Your replies got me to feel brave enough to post everything I've been thinking in full!
