A Second Chance - Chapter 13 (LokiXOC)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After the snap and losing her husband, Raven tries to settle on New Asgard with Thor and Valkyrie. But even after losing Loki twice before this time around doesn’t make it any easier. Until a variant of Loki shows up looking for her. Could this be the second chance they both need?
AN:  Sorry for the long break between chapters, last month I was on holiday and I've been trying to get myself back in the process since
Warnings: Sexual tension, Sexual thoughts, Masturbation (male and female), Loki’s a lil perv in this chapter
Chapter 13
Loki
Raven exited the bathroom after her shower, her hair wet and tied up in a bun to keep it off her neck. Her lavender silk robe came down to her mid-thighs, leaving the rest of her legs exposed. The robe had already come slightly loose, revealing a strip of pale white skin that my eyes followed all the way down to her stomach. I forced myself to meet her gaze and my mind back to more appropriate thoughts. There was a soft pink tinge to her cheeks, but I couldn’t tell if it was from the heat of her shower or if she was blushing.
The silence continued between us, and the tension grew as if we were waiting for each other to make the first move. I wouldn’t make a move unless she did until she was sure I was what she wanted. And whilst I wanted nothing more than to trace that strip of skin with my lips and tongue, I knew any movement forward needed to be on her terms. Even if it was taking all my self-control to not go over to her, tear the robe off her and worship her as she deserved.
“Did you need any more blankets or pillows?” Raven asked a bit awkwardly, as if desperate to break the silence and tension. “No. Thank you. Where’s Ginger?” I asked. “Outside, he was scratching at the door, so I let him out. I think he’s just wants to explore more.” “So long as he doesn’t come back with any mangled and bloody half-alive gifts in the morning, he can explore all he likes.” Raven laughed softly and nodded in agreement.
“Well, goodnight,” Raven spoke. “Goodnight.” Raven closed her bedroom door behind her, and a few minutes later I could hear her hairdryer. I stayed awake, listening to her move around her bedroom before finally the cottage was silent. After setting up the blankets and pillows, I got myself comfortable on the couch and yet I couldn’t fall asleep. Nor could I stop thinking about her. Half an hour passed and still I couldn’t sleep.
A soft gasp broke the silence, barely audible and coming from Raven’s bedroom. Holding my breath, I listened carefully for another sound. A faint moan this time. It took me a few seconds to realize what the sounds were. Raven was pleasuring herself, likely thinking that I was asleep. Arousal filled me at the mental image of her thin delicate fingers bringing her to the edge. Getting up from the couch, I crept over to her bedroom door, being sure to avoid the floorboards that creaked.
Now, with only a thin layer between us, I could hear her better, my cock throbbing with fresh arousal. My hand hesitated on the doorknob. As much as I wanted to go in there, as much as I wanted to be the reason for her moans and gasps, I knew that I shouldn’t unless invited. It was probably wrong to be standing outside listening, but I couldn’t tear myself away and pretend like I hadn’t heard anything. It was far too late for that now. I wondered if she was thinking of me, or if she was thinking of him. It felt pathetic to be jealous of a dead man, of another version of me.
Another hushed moan distracted me from my jealousy and only reminded me of how aroused I was, how I too needed release. Leaning my back against the wall, I reached down and freed my cock from its tight confines. Precum was already leaking from the tip as I wrapped my hand around it, starting with slow strokes. I sighed at the pleasure, wishing it were her hands on me instead. I longed for her touch; at this point, I didn’t know how much longer I could function without it.
It was agony being alone with her in this cottage day after day and not being able to act on any of my feelings or urges. And yet I knew I would wait for her forevermore if there was a chance. I yearned to have her in my arms, to feel the softness of her skin against mine and to be able to kiss her again. Hell, I even wanted the simple things, her fingers laced with mine, being able to run my fingers through her hair. Every time I made her smile, it felt like a small victory, another point gained in my favour.
Raven’s breaths were laboured and heavier now before she moaned again. Biting down on my lip, I worked myself faster. Still, I wrestled with the urge to go inside, a small voice in the back of my mind telling me to follow through with it. Leaning the back of my head against the wall, I closed my eyes. I could picture her hips bucking into her touch, her back arching off the bed. My mouth watered at the thought of her taste. My cock twitched as I imagined how she would cling to me as I filled her, how her nails would bite into my skin.
My name fell from her lips as a whisper, and I froze, my eyes springing open. For a moment I wasn’t sure if I had imagined it until she gasped it again. That deep primal need to have her grew stronger at that moment. Resuming my pace, I bit down on my lip to stifle a groan. Her moans became more frequent before they were muffled, likely with her free hand over her mouth. She was close, mere seconds away from climax. And I wasn’t far behind, my hips bucking into my own touch.
Raven reached hers first, her moans and whimpers still muffled. I could picture her with her head thrown back against the pillows in the throes of pleasure, her chest heaving with every breath she took and her thighs shaking from the intensity. Seconds later, I was cumming into my fist, stifling my groans. And yet there was a small voice in my head that questioned if it would be such a bad thing if she heard me.
As the pleasure passed, I remained still, listening for any sounds of movement. Over my own racing heartbeat, I could only hear her soft breaths. Heading for the bathroom, I locked the door behind me and cleaned up as quietly as possible. Once clean, I crept back to the couch, pretending nothing had happened and that façade would have to continue the next morning.

Bucky’s arm has a heater? Bucky/Desmond/Loki headcanons insp. by this post
Steams in the winter sometimes lmao
No one’s allowed to talk about his arm steaming
Sam did once. Once.
had the heater shit added cause Des (and Loki) is always freezing - kept making him scoot away at night >:(
Des is usually WRAPPED around bucky’s arm
Below 70? Glued to his personal heater
Loki doesn’t feel the cold so much, but his hands are freezing
Sometimes makes Loki warm up his hands on his arm before he’s allowed to touch anyone
He should do the same to Des. He does not
Loki tries to complain about the double standard but Des just looks at him like 🥺 and he gives up
Desmond is 100% manipulating them into letting him put his icy death hands on them
Des gets to be a little evil
As a treat

TW: Some "bullying" from Loki.
Tumblr media
Loki is taken by armed guards to a cell within the helicarrier. A cell originally meant to hold Dr. Banner should he turn into the Hulk. The team: Dr. Banner, Thor, Romanov, and Archer are meeting in a confined space just off the bridge. They hear Fury on their screens. “In case it’s unclear. If you try to escape, if you so much as scratch that glass.” The floor underneath Loki’s cell opens, causing the wind to blow fiercely into the room. Loki moves to the edge of the cell to peer down. “It’s a thirty thousand feet straight down in a steel trap. You get how this works?” Fury pushes a few buttons to close the floor underneath Loki’s cell. Loki politely listens as Fury finishes his spiel. Fury gestures to Loki, “Ant,” and then to the control panel, “Boot.” Loki laughs when Fury is finished, backing up in his cell towards the middle. “It’s an impressive cage. Not built, I think, for me.”
“Built for something a lot stronger than you.” Fury says tiredly. With a mischievous gleam in his eye as he turns to the camera watching him, “Oh, I’ve heard. A mindless beast. Makes play he’s still a man. How desperate are you that you call on such lost creatures to defend you?” Archer watches her team become uneasy with Loki’s words. Agent Romanov eyes Dr. Banner, and Dr. Banner shrinks. Thor just standing there not watching the video and listening. Cap is just watching as if analyzing Loki’s motives through his body language and words. Loki moves back to the edge of the cell where Fury is standing just outside. “How desperate am I?” Comes the question from Fury, as Loki turns to give Fury his attention. “You threaten my world with war. You steal a force you can’t hope to control. You talk about peace, and you kill because it’s fun. You have made me very desperate. You might not be glad that you did.” “Ooh. It burns you to have come so close.” Loki responds. “To have the Tesseract, to have power, unlimited power. And for what? A warm light for all of mankind to share. And then to be reminded what real power is.” Fury gives Loki a small smirk as he begins to walk away. “Well let me know if ‘real power’ would like a magazine or something.” Loki walks back to look into the camera before the footage goes black.
“He really grows on you, doesn’t he?” Dr. Banner breaks the ice. “He’s gonna drag this out.” Cap shares his observation. “So, Thor, what’s his play?” “He has an army called the Chitauri.” Thor who was facing away from the team turns back. “They’re not of Asgard nor any world known.” “What is he planning on using the Chitauri for?” Archer asks. “He means to lead them against your people. They will win him the Earth, in return, I suspect, for the Tesseract.” Cap deadpans. “An army from outer space.” “So, he’s building another portal.” Dr. Banner points out. “That’s what he needs Erik Selvig for.” “I’m sure Selvig is not trying to destroy the earth of his own accord.” Thor nods. “I want to know why Loki let us take him. He’s not leading an army from here.” Cap places his elbows on the table and clasps his hands, as if in prayer. “I don’t think we should be focusing on Loki. That guy’s brain is a bag full of cats. You can smell crazy on him.” “Dr. Banner.” Archer begins to chastise. She doesn’t know why she’s defending him, but Dr. Banner speaking badly about Loki left a sour taste in her mouth. “Have care how you speak. Loki is beyond reason but he’s of Asgard. And he’s my brother.” “He killed eighty people in two days.” Agent Romanov flatly informs Thor. “He’s adopted?” Thor begins to backtrack. I think it’s about the mechanics. Iridium, what do they need the iridium for?” Dr. Banner tries to brainstorm. “It’s a stabilizing agent.” Tony walks into the room with Coulson and says a few more words to him before Coulson walks away. “It means the portal won’t collapse on itself like it did at SHIELD. No hard feelings, Point Break. You’ve got a mean swing.” Thor looks at Tony with confusion after Tony taps on Thor’s bicep a few times. “Also, it means the portal can open as wide and stay open as long as Loki wants.” Tony walks over to Fury’s computers. “Raise the mizzenmast. Jib the topsails.” Those who are working on the consoles look at Stark also with confused faces.
“That man is playing Galaga. He thought we wouldn’t notice, but we did.” Tony covers his right eye with his hand before putting it back down. “How does Fury even see these?” “He turns.” Archer answers. “Sounds exhausting,” Tony admits as he goes to a console. “The rest of the raw materials Agent Barton can get his hands on pretty easily. The only major component he still needs is a power source of high-energy-density. Something to kick-start the Cube.” “Stark, when did you become an expert in thermonuclear astrophysics?” Archer questions. “Last night. The packet, Selvig’s notes, the extraction theory papers. Am I the only one who did the reading?” “Does Loki need any particular kind of power source?” Cap asks while ignoring the last bit of Tony’s rant. “He would have to heat the Cube to one hundred twenty million Kelvin just to break through the Coulomb barrier.” “Unless Selvig has figured out how to stabilize the quantum tunneling effect.” Tony walks over to Dr. Banner. “Well to do that, he could just achieve heavy-ion fusion at any reactor on the planet.” “Finally, someone who speaks English.” Tony shakes Dr. Banner’s hand. “Is that what just happened?” Cap defeatedly asks into the room. Tony and Dr. Banner speak by themselves for a minute before Fury announces his entrance into the room, “Dr. Banner is only here to track the Cube. I was hoping you might join him.” “I would start with that stick of his. It may be magical, but it works an awful lot like a HYDRA weapon.” “I don’t know about that, but it is powered by the Cube. And I would like to know how Loki used it to turn two of the sharpest men I know into his personal flying monkeys.” Fury changes the suggestion. “Monkeys? I do not understand.” Thor turns back to the group. Cap excitedly, “I do. I understood that reference.” “Thor, Flying Monkeys are from a story called the Wizard of Oz.” Dr. Banner and Stark leave the room.
“Agent Archer, I want you to talk to Loki and see if you can drag out from him what his plans are. I’m putting you up as his guard.” “He’s already in a cell with a camera where we can watch him. Why does he need a guard?” Thor turns from Fury. “No offense to you Lady Archer, but shouldn’t someone stronger be in charge of watching him?” “Because in case his plans involve his escape, we need someone to be present who can keep him in a cage.” Archer looks to Thor. “No offense taken. For some reason, Loki has had several opportunities to kill me and didn’t. Plus, besides you, out of the rest of us, I’ve been around Loki the most.” “Go ahead and go Agent.” “Yes sir.” Archer gets up from her chair and makes a stop in her quarters. Archer leaves her quarters with Tony waiting just outside her door leaning on the wall. “Tony, what are you doing?” “I just wanted to give you a few things before you go on guard duty.” Tony hands her some round metal material. “What are these?” “These are magic suppressors. Just in case you need to keep Loki from doing magic.” “Thank you, Tony.” He nods and lets Archer get to her charge. Loki looks up with a smile as she walks in. “To what do I owe this pleasure, Midgardian?” “Thought you may be bored, so I brought some of my favorite books for you.” Archer passes the books over to Loki. “And I’ve been assigned to guard you.” “You? A weak Midgardian woman? You think you can guard me?” Loki sneers. Archer gives him a warm smile. “You know, you can’t judge a book by its cover. Maybe I’ll surprise you.” “I doubt that.” The door to the room in which Loki and Archer is opened as SHIELD agents bring in a cot, a blanket, and a pillow. “Thank you. That will be all.” Archer dismisses the agents. They walk out the door they came in. Archer goes to her console screen and begins to type. “Why are you being kind to me? I could have killed you a few days ago when we first met and again yesterday in Germany.”
“Honestly Loki, I don’t think you wanted to kill me. Otherwise, you would have when you had the chance. Now if you don’t mind, I’d like to get as much sleep as I can. So good night.” Archer climbs onto the cot, covers herself with the blanket, and dozes off after a while. The helicarrier begins to jerk as if it’s trying to dodge something. “What’s going on now?” Archer groans under her breath as she gets up. “Archer, we have hostiles dressed as agents. Do not let Loki out of your sight.” Fury radios to Archer. “Copy that.” Archer rushes to the control panel and begins typing furiously on it in case of worst-case scenarios. Then it happens. “This is Agent Romanov. We have a green problem.” “Archer, fly Loki and yourself to safe house Beta.” Fury orders. “Yes sir.” Archer pushes the button to separate the cell room from the rest of the helicarrier. “Get ready for a rough ride.” Once enough clearance for Archer to clear away from the helicarrier, she takes a nosedive towards the Earth. “Are you trying to get us killed?” Loki calls as Archer is timing the maneuver. “The opposite,” Archer replies as she pulls up and evens out the aircraft. “You remember me saying how you can’t judge a book by its cover? That’s why you don’t judge me prematurely. Also, your plan to cause a distraction so you can break out has failed.” She proudly points out. Loki looks at Archer with a fire of anger in his eyes. Archer yawns and Loki’s face softens. This is something Archer notices but thinks nothing of it because it doesn’t mean anything. Right? She must be imagining it. “How many hours have you been awake? However long it’s been, get some rest. I promise I won’t attempt to escape.” Archer teases Loki, “That’s what someone who would try and escape while I’m sleeping would say. I’ll be fine until we get to the safe house.” “The dark circles under your eyes tell me a different story.”
“These dark circles all come from chasing you for a while. Your fault. But I’ll be fine. I am still a hundred percent coherent.” Archer returns her attention to flying. “I appreciate your concern Loki. It’s sweet. But I am much stronger than I look.” “I haven’t seen much of that strength.” Archer sighs and turns the aircraft onto autopilot. “When I was born, the doctors gave my parents the worst news. I wouldn’t be able to see, hear, walk, talk, or be mentally here. Hell, they told my parents I would be lucky to make it past the age of five.” Loki stares at Archer wide-eyed. He is beginning to realize his error in possibly underestimating her. “My dad played a song and I reacted to it, so my parents knew I wasn’t deaf. My parents put their fingers in front of my face, and I followed it, so then they knew I wasn’t blind. Time would tell if I would be able to walk, talk, or be mentally here. But here I am. I have walked and talked to you. I was able to get out of danger as soon as Fury gave the order. So, as you can see, I am a fighter and much stronger than you know.” The aircraft is silent apart from the sound of the engine and the wind. “I was out of line for what I said earlier. I am sorry.” Loki apologizes. “There is nothing to apologize for. You didn’t know.” “Still, I should not have said what I did, or assumed I had you figured out.” “If it makes you feel better, I was never upset. But I’ll accept your apology.” Archer and Loki safely land on farmland in a place far from cameras and anything connected to a satellite. They are now far away from anyone who may recognize Loki. Archer enters Loki’s cell and puts the magic suppressors on his wrists. Tony was able to get a working prototype working just in time. “Are these necessary?” Loki pouts but doesn’t resist. He knows why she feels they are necessary. “Until I feel, I can trust you won’t kill me or cause any headaches for me, your ability to use illusions and magic is nullified.” Archer looks up into Loki’s eyes. “Your eyes, there’s not as dark a blue. Wait, were you being mind-controlled as well?” “In a way.” Loki answers while looking back into Archer’s eyes. “But being away from the spear’s influence, I think it’s weakening. I am beginning to feel like myself again, without this shadow overtaking my thoughts.” Archer nods as she turns to walk inside, “Let’s go inside and get settled in.” Loki puts his hands on Archer’s shoulder and jolts her back into him after she walks through the threshold, he lets her go. “What was that for?” Loki walks to the wall with a small hole. “You were almost killed.” “I guess Director Fury didn’t have time to put the security away before we arrived. Thank you, Loki.” Loki grunts that he heard her but doesn’t respond. “It’s nearly seven at night and we flew for a few hours. Are you hungry? I can make something if you’d like. All of the SHIELD safehouses are fully stocked.”
“I’m not hungry.” Loki’s lips move, but his stomach growls expose his lie. “Liar. Good thing your stomach tells me the truth. Give me fifteen or twenty minutes and we’ll eat.” Archer walks into the kitchen. The kitchen was very spacious. Lots of natural light can come in, the appliances were updated and top of the line. Everything Archer needed to cook was on hand. “This kitchen is so much better than my apartment’s.” Archer drools. Loki follows Archer in and chuckles at her excitement as he sits down at the island. “I’m thinking something simple and quick, like scrambled eggs. I can get some bacon and toast going too.” Archer begins her work by cracking several eggs and scrambling them and mixing in some seasonings. She puts the bacon in the oven and toasts some bread. “Does this house happen to have any water?” “It does.” Archer walks to the fridge and throws a water bottle at Loki. She grabs one for herself. Archer plates the food for Loki and puts it in front of him. She loosens the restraints so he can eat easier. Loki finishes, “This dish, I like it.” He picks up the plate and throws it on the ground. “Another.” “I thought you were a prince.” Archer teases as she gets up and grabs a broom. “I am.” “You aren’t behaving like one. You could have kindly asked for more instead of creating a mess.” Loki gets up and tries to take the broom. “I’ll clean it up. It is my mess.” “I got it, but next time, you’re cleaning up your mess. Give me a second and I’ll grab you another plate.” Loki doesn’t argue. He walks back to the island. Archer throws the broken shards of the old plate away and hands Loki a new plate of food once it’s made. Once both have finished eating Archer takes their dishes and loads them into the dishwasher, “Can I trust you not to kill me if I keep your wrists loose?” “Yes.” Archer knows from her talk with Thor, Loki is a pathological liar. However, she’s getting a feeling she can trust him. “Okay. Prove to me that I can trust you.” Loki’s eyes study Archer’s. He’s trying to see if she’s playing a game to get him to trip or if she’s being genuine. “You’re tired. Why don’t you get some sleep?”
“That is the best idea yet.” Archer smiles. “Let’s choose rooms.” “This room looks like it suits you.” Loki notes as they walk into the first room they look at. “It has a similar energy to you.” Archer looks in and where natural light can come in through the large window, which makes the room more welcoming with the bright colors that are throughout. The room also hosts a queen-sized bed, a dresser, a vanity area, a desk, and what appears to be a walk-in closet. Archer will have to look later at that. “I can feel that too. Let’s get you a room to settle in.” They walk to the next room, next door to Archer’s. “This will do nicely.” Archer agrees, “This does scream Loki.” Loki’s room in contrast isn’t as bright. It is the same size as Archer’s, and with the same furniture, with a California King bed instead of a queen, but it’s more subdued. There are a lot of darker colors and tones. “We both need some rest, some more than others. Let’s get some sleep.” “You don’t have to tell me twice.” Archer walks out of Loki’s room, feeling Loki’s eyes watch her until she closes his door. She locks down the house so no one without Fury’s or her permission comes in and her charge doesn’t escape. Archer returns to her bedroom and changes into some sweatpants and a t-shirt. She washes her face in the on-suite bathroom. Satisfied that she’s ready for some shut eye, she puts her hearing aids in their case, places it on her bedside table, and crawls into the bed. Her bed. She closes her eyes, hoping for a peaceful sleep. Sami returns from the dream world to reality, her face wet with her tears and someone holding onto her. “Loki?” Loki shushes Sami and holds her tighter against him. “You were screaming, I thought that someone might have hurt you.” Sami is surprised that she can hear Loki clearly, even though she’s not wearing her hearing aids. “Thank you.” Sami relaxes. “But I am fine now. It was just a dream. Nothing that can hurt me. I appreciate you coming to check on me.”
“It was no problem, my dear. But are you sure you are okay? You can tell me.” “Yes, I am. Thank you.” Loki lets out a breath of relief. “If you’re truly okay, then I’ll let you go back to sleep, and I’ll return to my bed.” Loki puts the sheet and comforter on top of Sami, tucking her back into bed before he leaves. “Thank you, Loki.” Sami smiles sleepily. “Good night darling.” Loki closes the door, encasing Sami’s room in darkness, not before he looks at Sami with longing, in Sami’s drowsy state, must have imagined that. As Sami begins to fall back asleep, her face flushes with the interaction she had with Loki. “Did that really just happen? Why did that just happen?” Sami, after getting dressed and put together after a more peaceful sleep in the latter half of the evening, leaves her room and walks to the kitchen. She grabs a water bottle and sits at the island. She tries to stretch out her neck which was tight from the way she slept. “Good morning.” Loki begins to massage her shoulders and neck. Sami melts into Loki’s hands as the tension begins to disappear. “Are you okay?” “I’m fine. Thank you. How did you sleep?” “I wasn't asleep yet when I heard you screaming. It turns out you were just having a nightmare. What were you dreaming about?” “Oh, uh.” Sami pauses for a second. “I just had a dream about my ex, there was a storm, and I got electrocuted by lightning. That’s probably where the scream came from.” “It frightened me, you know.” Loki flinches slightly and stops the message. He sits next to Sami. “I am sorry. I didn’t know I talked, or I guess screamed in my sleep. But thank you for making sure I was safe.” “I am just glad I didn’t have to kill a poor soul for trying to take advantage of you.” “I think I could manage that myself.” Sami laughs. “But I appreciate your concern.” Sami gets up. “I’m hungry. Want some breakfast sandwiches? I think they have a maker here and some English muffins.” “Yes please.” Loki nods. “What do you have planned while we wait for your new orders?” “We’ll think about that after food.”

The trouble with royal visits was that they were tedious. Sure, everyone assumed it was fun, and it probably was for the royals that were visiting. But for everyone else, it was an extremely stressful time. There were only four days left, counting today. The day before the Vanir departed for their home realm, the traditional tournament between the Asgardian and Vanaheim guards would be held.
The tournament was held at the end of the visit for various reasons. The primary reason was that those who had lost in battle in previous years had often sought revenge against the victor. This tension and conflict between the guards created numerous issues. Also, nobody held back, so juggling wounded guards while attempting to guard two royal families was never easy. In his infinite wisdom, Týr decided to leave the tournament until the last possible minute.
In the last tournament, Faolán had defeated twelve Vanir before being knocked out and having his ribs cracked, shoulder dislocated, and leg torn open. He could never predict how the Vanir guards would use their magic.

These thoughts were a distraction from the monotony of the meeting Faolán was forced to attend. He also needed to keep his mind off Hvítingr. Who, in boredom, was nipping at his legs, trying to get him to play with her. She didn’t understand the importance of this meeting (truth be told, neither did he), so she continued pecking, hoping to find a way to get him to react.

Ghost. I suggest listening to Creep by Rediohead (or Kelly Clarkson's cover)
PAIRING: TVA!LokixOC
RATING: ALL
SUMMARY: Loki meets sombody at the TVA he once knew. Unfortunately she doesn't seem to remember him.
Part 2 here
When he saw her one day, wandering through the shelves of the TVA library, he thought she was a ghost. Loki would have sworn it was her but not exactly her. There was something different; her hair, for example, was brown, not red, and she was much more smiling than he remembered. Loki initially had doubts about whether it was her, but then he spent days observing her—watching how she furrowed her brows when concentrating on reading a file, how she leaned against the railing to gaze at the city suspended in time, how she always chose apple pie in the cafeteria. Every day was a stab to his heart until he decided to approach her.
"Miss Princhett," Loki approached the cafeteria table carrying a cup of tea for himself and a cup of coffee. "May I join you?" he offered her the cup.
Lydia Princhett. Shield agent. She had red hair and a stern face. Died in 2012.
"Of course, even though I don't think we've ever been introduced," she grabbed the cup, giving him a slight smile. Loki tightened his lips.
Lydia Princhett. Consultant at the TVA. She had brown hair and a relaxed expression.
"I'm Loki, from Asgard."
"I know," she brought the cup to her lips, and for a moment, Loki was filled with hope. "Everyone knows about the new consultant with Mobius," she laughed almost mockingly. "I'm a consultant too. I was supposed to be disposed of, but in my timeline I was a bounty hunter, and they thought I could be useful," she shrugged.
Loki knew. That's why he’d kept her. No one knew better than her how to find someone and, conversely, how to hide them.
"And are you? Useful?"
"I sincerely hope so, otherwise, I don't think they'll wait long before getting rid of me," she chuckled lightly.
Loki remembered the first time he heard her laugh. He had tried to make a toast and burnt himself. Her laughter sounded like a bell, and the burn was absolutely worth it.
But none of that had ever happened for her.
That Lydia had never fought against him, lost, and spat at his feet, telling him how he would never be feared and respected like Odin.
She had never tended to his wounds after a fight, even under coercion.
She had never looked at him with pity when she realized that, in turn, Loki was under someone else's influence.
She had never agreed to hear his story and had never told hers.
"What was your Nexus event?" Loki didn't think before speaking; it just came out.
"Don't you think that's too personal a question?" Lydia raised an eyebrow but decided to answer anyway. "I decided not to go to work one day; I had absurd cramps," she leaned closer, whispering and eliciting a light laugh from both of them. "I didn't think the world would change much just by not going to work for one day."
Loki tilted his head. "When was it?"
Lydia shrugged. "I don't know exactly how long ago, time is a mess here, but it was in 2012."
Loki nodded, lips pressed into a line.
That Lydia had never known him, and she had never been a causality during the New York attack.
There was a moment of silence in which she observed him, and Loki felt tiny under her gaze. It seemed like she was analyzing his soul, exposing every secret.
"Do you know me, Loki of Asgard?" Lydia tilted her head, offering a smile.
He looked at her for a second. "No."
"But did you know me?"
Loki didn't answer, lowering his gaze.
Lydia finished her coffee, placing the cup on the table and sighed before standing up. "Well, thanks for the coffee; it was delightful," she gave him a forced smile and began walking towards the exit. Loki opened his mouth, but nothing came out.
Lydia stopped after a few steps.
"For what it's worth," she turned to him, "I'd like to get to know you, Loki of Asgard."
Loki gave her a slight smile, the saddest he had ever made, and with a nod, he bid farewell to her ghost before finishing his tea and returning to work.

Rules of Engagement
Claire is just having one hell of a day. Just when she thinks it couldn't be any worse, Tony leaves a homicidal psychopath in her charge...
Pairing: Loki X OC
A/N: I do plan to update this at some point. For now, there is only one chapter. Happy Reading!
Warnings: Language
“Detecting high levels of stress”.
“No shit, Jarvis.” I snap, hitting the button in the elevator angrily.
“Can I be of service, Miss Gillespie?”
I sighed heavily. “I’m sorry, Jarvis. You didn’t deserve that. I just want to go to bed and forget this nightmare day.”
The elevator dinged, signaling my stop. As I stepped out, my heel caught in the divider and broke off.
“Fucking perfect. Just fucking perfect.” I cursed.
After scanning my keycard to the lounge, I flung it open so hard it hit the wall.
“Hey! There she is!” Tony said, happy as a clam.
I tried to retain my features but I was pretty sure the snarl was permanent for the time being. I worked the broken heel in my hand, gripping it tightly at times in an effort to work my frustration into something so I wouldn’t put my fist through a wall.
I felt a soft ball of fabric hit my shoulder, and in return, thew the heel at Tony, hearing a glass shatter on the back wall of the bar.
“Really?” “Eat me, Tony.”
I brushed past Thor, hitting his shoulder without offering an apology. I was a literal ball of could-give-a-fuck-less at this point.
“Good heavens, what’s wrong with the Midgardian?”
I didn’t hear any more of the conversation as I stomped to my room, offering back a “I have a name! Learn it!”
Rhodes turned to look at Tony when I was out of eye and ear shot.
“You shouldn’t let her treat you like that?”
“Who, Claire? Nah, she’s harmless. She’s rarely like this so something is really stuck in her craw.”
“I’ll go talk to her.” Bucky offered.
“You know…” Tony stopped, angling his head to hear me stomping and then slam the door to my room so hard, the windows rattled. “Maybe wait…”
I threw myself onto my bed, trying to hold it together. I knew I was acting childish but I couldn’t help it. I sat up after a few minutes, scratching my head and subsequently running a hand through my hair.
“Tea will be ready momentarily, Miss Gillespie.”
“You’re too good to me Jarvis.”
I spied my headphones hanging on my bedpost. I smiled to myself as thought back to when Tony had given them to me.
It had taken Tony a few tries to get my attention. I sat at my desk, buds in my ears, mouthing the words to a song, when Tony’s face came onto my screen. Pulling out one of the buds, I heard a noise at my door.
“’Hello! Remember me? I’ve been trying to get your attention for 5 minutes!’”
I pointed to the headphone still lingering in my ear.
He didn’t say anything as he walked up to me, some mail in his hands.
He looked to my headphones, picking up the one I’d pulled out of my ear.
“’This is what you listen to your music on?’”
“’Yes?’”
“’Eww.’” He had said, dropping the bud like it was a piece of trash.
“’What’s it to you?’”
“’You’ll destroy your hearing with those. Here,’”
He had pulled out a pair of expensive noise-cancelling headphones, a pair I’d wanted for a while. I took them from him, my mouth hanging open.
“Thank you!”
“Go big or go home, champ.” He’d said, patting me on the back.
A knock sounded at the door, followed by Nat and Wanda bursting in. Nat plopped herself down in front of me before I had any time to react.
“Alright spill. What’s going on?”
“Nat-”
“Claire, so help me if you say “nothing” I’m going to punch you.”
Wanda came around the other side, a cup of tea in her hands. I took it when she offered it, thanking her.
“So what has you Hulking out today?” Wanda asked.
“I’m just having a bad day.”
“Vague. Keep going.” Nat pushed.
“Nat, please. I just need some alone ti-”
“Claire, you walked in here stomping around, shattering a glass and putting a nice sized dent in the wall. What is going on?”
“This day has been a nightmare. Traffic was atrocious, I was late to work, passed over for a promotion, soaked by a taxi while walking back from lunch and the heel of my favorite pair broke in the elevator when I got home.”
By now, I was a blubbering mess.
“It’s just been a really bad day.” I squeaked out, trying not to have a full blown meltdown.
Nat and Wanda looked at each other, unsure what to do. They had never seen me like this. Wanda sat down next to me, rubbing my back while Nat brushed the tear-slicked hair off of my face.
A quiet knock gathered all three of our attentions.
“They need you downstairs, Nat.” Bucky said.
I avoided his gaze as he looked to me.
“We need a minute.”
He nodded, jaw clenched and hurrying down to hallway.
“Quickest way to get a man out of your hair. ”Nat said with a smirk.
“Don’t say that. I’ll feel worse. I already feel bad enough that I got to this point.”
“Nonsense. Everyone needs a good cry sometimes.” Nat offered.
“And yours is long overdue.” Wanda added.
I had started to feel better, having some of the tension gone through the tears and talking it out. I could already feel the migraine starting.
“Oh, I’m going to have a killer headache from this.”
Wanda got up to get the Excedrin out of my purse to give me.
“Thanks, hon. You guys are the best.”
“We girls gotta stick together. It’s a sausage fest out there.”
We all shared a laugh with Nat and Wanda taking their leave to let me relax. I laid back on my bed while Jarvis played some relaxing music and projecting a planetarium on the ceiling for something I could focus on.
“Sweet baby honey darlin’?” I heard Tony call through the com on my computer.
“Will you accept?” Jarvis asked.
“I guess I’d better. I’ll never hear the end of it if I don’t.”
I sat up as Tony’s face graced the screen.
“Good God you look like Hell.”
“Shut up.”
“Meet me in the lounge. You look like you could use a drink.”
I made myself presentable and walked downstairs, treading lightly. Tony had the lights dimmed with soft music playing. I sat at the empty bar, wondering where Tony was when he suddenly popped up and threw a bar towel at my face. It bounced off, revealing my unamused expression as it fell to the bar.
“Nothing? Ah well.”
He served a drink, taking back the towel to dry off his hands.
“So what’s put a wrinkle in your angel feathers?”
“I’m sorry I broke a glass. I’ll replace it.”
He placed his hands on the bar, straightening his arms as his body went rigid, giving me the “no nonsense” look that he always did when I was evading a question, looking at me from under his lashes.
I sighed. “Fine. I got passed up for a promotion at work by a chick that walks more on her knees than on her feet.”
“Ooo, that’s harsh.” Sam said, walking up to join us.
“I’ve told you to just work here.”
“I think I’d go crazy first.”
“Crazy’s half the fun! Tell you what. I promote you to the title of Queen Bee starting today.”
“Oh no, honey. No one can ever take that title from you.” I said, as a wide smile broke onto his face. I couldn’t stifle the laugh at Tony’s flustered face.
“You’re such a peach.” He said, fist bumping my chin softly.
“Y’all need to just get a room.” Sam said, walking away.
“There’s no need to be jealous! Plenty of Tony to go around!”
I chuckled as I watched Sam walking away, shaking his head. When I turned back, Tony was staring at me with a sincere smile on his face.
“What?”
“There’s my girl.”
I blushed, tucking a stand of hair behind my ear.
“Come on. I’ve got a surprise for you.”
He came around the bar, taking my hand in his. He walked me down to the lab, telling me to close my eyes when we stepped in.
“Jarvis, run Protocol 8, Section 3.”
I heard the whirring of machinery as something opened in the floor, the vibrations from it rattling my feet. After a few minutes of hearing various sounds of opening and lifting, Tony told me to open my eyes. I did and saw an Iron Man suit painted in purple and blue. The suit was a little bit small than his usual one.
“What do you think?” He asked, anticipation thick in his voice.
“It’s awesome! Why the color change?”
“It’s yours.”
It took a minute for his words to register.
“What?!”
“Surprise!” He said, a wide smile on his face, his arms opened wide.
“Tony! My own suit?!”
“Do you like it?”
“I love it!” I said excitedly, enunciating every word
I ran over to it, running my fingers along the metal, taking in every detail I could. When I came back around, I stopped.
“Wait…what do you want?”
He looked like a deer caught in the headlights.
“I can’t surprise you with a suit just because?”
“Tony…”
“Close protocol.”
I stepped away as my suit went back into the floor. He walked towards the door, holding it open for me and mentioned for to me to walk with him. He led me further down in the tower that I’d ever been, the hallway eventually opening up into a circle with several reinforced glass cells wrapping around it.
“Our new containment facility.” Tony said, spinning around, his hand aloft in the air, showing it off.
“Is this new? And why is it here?”
“It is new. Just got it finished a few months ago.
“Why is it here?” I asked again.
“You remember the little fiasco a few months ago? Well, we have this room for that reason.”
“Yeah, the asshole God Farki or Larki or whatever the fuck his name is who has made New York an even bigger hell that it already was.”
“It’s Loki, actually.”
I jumped at the voice, my eyes going to a now lit cell at the far end of the circle.
“Like I said. Asshole.”
He smiled like I’d said something funny.
“Nobody asked you, Reindeer Games.”
It clicked then: the suit, the douche wheel God in the cell...
“Tony…no.”
“Furthering the promotion I talked about upstairs, you are now in charge of him.”
“Are you out of your mind? Don’t make me do this.” I pleaded.
Tony turned me to face him, grabbing my shoulders lightly, dragging his hands down to my hands and placed them in his own.
“You’ve done a great job keeping me in check. Plus you’re a man hater so you would be aloof to his charms.”
“I am not a man hater…just you.”
He pursed his lips in a mock kiss. From behind us, I could hear Loki groan in disgust. I walked over to his cell, leaning against the glass, my voice sickly sweet.
“Listen up, Tin Cup. I’ve had quite the day and I will not hesitate to come in there and tear that smirk off your face.”
Loki looked from me to Tony.
“She’ll do it too!” Tony called out behind me.
Loki turned a dark expression to me.
“Oh, this’ll be fun…”

Frigga smiled as she watched her son quietly approach the baby in her arms. Her oldest son had wrinkled his nose when she sat him down to tell him that the baby girl would be staying in the palace with them.
"But why can't she just stay with her own family?" He asked.
"We will be her new family. She is the daughter of a childhood friend of mine." Frigga replied.
"She can just go back with her then," Thor mumbled from his spot across the room.
Frigga just smiled at her son and beckoned him closer to her and the sleeping babe.
"She looks funny and smells weird. Just like Loki did after you fed him that orange mush!" Thor said as he reached out to gently poke at the girl's face.
As she got ready to correct her son's insults against the defenseless baby, the doors to her chambers opened, revealing her husband.
"Escort my son back to his chambers. I wish to speak to my wife alone." Odin ordered the guards at his side.
Frigga didn't open her mouth until the doors had shut behind her son and the guards.
"What will become of her father?" She asked, placing the sleeping baby in the cradle she had asked a handmaiden to bring.
"He will rot in the dungeons for his crimes," Odin sighed "He tried denying his actions when I questioned him."
"What a selfish man. Only ever thinking of himself, I had warned Linnea that he would only bring her pain." Frigga said.
"And now she lives on in Valhalla," Odin said as he peered down at the rescued child, "If we are to keep her she will need a name."
"Astri. For her grandmother." Frigga smiled
Hello, readers! This is my first book that has to do with Marvel so please bear with me. This story is not going to immediately jump into romance as I want to spend chapters developing Astri and Loki's dynamic as friends first. Also, after some intense Googling, I've gotten many different ages and birth years for Loki and Thor. So for this story: Thor 964 A.D. Loki 965 A.D. Astri 967 A.D..  In the prologue above, I imagined Thor as about 3 in human years while Loki is about 2, Astri while she is a baby here, she is not a newborn.  Imagine her to be 8-9 months old. For some parts I'll put their ages down or at least how I view them in human years for the part.  This story will begin before the events of Thor 1 and follow through the movies with Loki in them. I hope you enjoy reading!

A Second Chance - Chapter 14 (LokiXOC)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After the snap and losing her husband, Raven tries to settle on New Asgard with Thor and Valkyrie. But even after losing Loki twice before this time around doesn’t make it any easier. Until a variant of Loki shows up looking for her. Could this be the second chance they both need?
Warnings: Suicide notes, Suicide mention, Pills, No actual suicide happens but plans for a previous attempt are mentioned/referenced, Feels, Angst
Chapter 14
Loki
Raven and Valkyrie had been making preparations all week. There had been mention of an Asgardian Day of remembrance. Raven had briefly told me that all the Asgardians would gather tonight around a bonfire to remember those they had lost and their home world. While it wouldn’t be as grand as any of the holidays celebrated on Asgard it was still an excellent idea. However, I wasn’t entirely sure if I was welcome there or if it would even be appropriate to go considering it wasn’t my planet or at least not the one from my timeline.
Raven seemed anxious about tonight, wanting to make sure it all worked out, but there was something else on her mind. And I didn’t need to be a genius to work it out. There was still no word from Thor, still no sign of him. There was still no evidence that the Avengers had defeated Thanos or if they too had perished with those lost in the snap. Understandably Raven wanted him home tonight, to be with his people and mourn his own losses.
Once the sun had set, I knew it was time to leave. I still wasn’t even sure if Raven wanted me there, if my presence would remind her of the husband she’d lost, the future and life that was stolen from her. But I had a gut feeling it would be worse if I didn’t go. Locking up the cottage, I made my way down to the beach where everyone was gathered. The Asgardians had brought food, chairs and blankets, all of them gathered around the bonfire. I had expected this to be a solemn evening but the Asgardians were mingling among themselves, children were playing and laughing.
I stayed near the back of the crowd, ready to leave if I wasn’t welcome. Raven was sitting at the front, her hands in her pockets and deep in thought until a few of the children ran over to her. She forced a smile at them as they encouraged her to light the bonfire. Raven got to her feet and pretended to sneeze, using her pyrokinesis in the process. The flames caught on the various logs and sticks before her and soon the pile was ablaze. And she’d always been so insistent that she wouldn’t make a good mother, but the reaction of the children said otherwise.
The children moved on and Raven returned to her seat. Silence fell over the Asgardians for a few moments as they remembered their home and loved ones. I wondered if my mother was still alive in my timeline now that I was no longer there to seal her fate. The moment passed and the Asgardians made a toast before their conversations resumed. Most of them seemed in high spirits but Raven was still staring into the flames, her lips pressed into a thin line as if she were willing herself to keep it together.
“If you don’t go over there, I will,” came Valkyrie’s voice from beside me. I glanced at her and then back at Raven, “you don’t think I would be intruding?” “Loki, regardless of what timeline you come from you are still Asgardian and these are still your people. That is still your wife.” “You know for a woman more prone to using her fists, I’m surprised when you say nice things.” “Yeah, well not all of us get a second chance to be with the ones we love.”
Valkyrie brought a bottle of alcohol to her lips and took a long swig. She was right, not everyone got a second chance and here I was wasting mine. I knew Raven regardless of timelines and I knew that she would never make the first move. I had to. Excusing myself, I slipped through the crowd until I reached her. Sitting down beside Raven I conjured a blanket to wrap around the two of us. Raven glanced at me with a soft smile spreading across her delicate features. I rested my hand on her knee, making it known I was there for her.
We sat in silence for a while although I could still tell Raven wasn’t entirely at ease. And she wouldn’t do much talking with everyone around. I removed my hand from her knee to lace my fingers with hers and squeeze her hand gently. “Why don’t we go for a walk?” I suggested. “Okay.” Getting up we headed away from the crowd and further down the beach. Raven kept the blanket wrapped around herself and I kept my hands in my pockets for warmth. We walked in silence for a short while as I tried to find the right words to say. I knew this needed to be handled delicately.
“I know you keep saying that tonight wasn’t much compared to celebrations on Asgard, but I like to believe my mother and Odin would have appreciated the gesture,” I finally spoke. “I didn’t do it for them. Well, not Odin anyway. I just know first-hand what it’s like having your home taken from you and having to settle somewhere that feels alien. I didn’t want anybody to think Asgard or those we lost had been forgotten.” “And you’ve achieved that. I had expected it to be quite a solemn event but it felt the opposite.” Raven shrugged softly, physically rejecting the credit. Her lips were pressed into a thin line, and it looked like she was struggling to hold back tears.
“It doesn’t matter what I do for them,” she whispered. “That’s not true.” “Isn’t it? I’m not Thor. I’m not their leader, their king, the person they look to when they’re lost. And he couldn’t even be bothered to come back for one night to be with us. Hell, I don’t even know if he’s still alive.” Her voice cracked as she continued to speak, but the anger was clear in her tone. As the tears rolled down her cheeks I couldn’t tell if they were tears of anguish or tears of rage. My heart ached for her.
“I know how selfish it sounds considering everyone lost somebody with the snap, but it feels like I lost everything. And Thor couldn’t even stick around when I needed him most, when I was going to…” Raven trailed off. I frowned, putting my hands on her shoulders and turning her to face me. She still refused to look at me, instead focusing her gaze on our shoes. Whilst I was afraid of her answer, I knew I needed to hear it. “What were you going to do, Raven?” I asked. “It doesn’t matter now.” “It does, it matters to me.”
Raven recoiled from me, stepping out of my reach whilst shaking her head. She couldn’t bring herself to say it and that gave me my answer. She’d planned to kill herself; she’d already set a date by the time Thor left. And if I hadn’t arrived, she probably would have gone through with it. “Raven-“ “No, forget I said anything. I shouldn’t have even brought it up with you,” she snapped, wiping away her tears. My thoughts were racing as Raven turned and headed back down the beach and to the bonfire. I followed a few steps behind.
I wanted to ask more questions, but she was clearly going to shut down every single one. Finding Valkyrie, I made sure she’d keep an eye on Raven tonight who agreed without question. I would have done it, but I didn’t think Raven would want my company right now and I had some digging to do. I knew her regardless of universe or timelines and I knew she would have left a note. Heading straight back to the cottage, Ginger meowed at me as I burst inside. The cat was at my feet, following me through the kitchen and into Raven’s bedroom.
This was my first time inside the room since I had first arrived over half a year ago. I didn't want to invade her private space any more than I had done so I had vowed not to go into this room unless invited. But these were different circumstances. Glancing around, I decided to start with the wardrobe, rifling through her clothes and shoes. Even checking the back in case she’d hidden anything there. I then searched her chest of drawers only to find more clothes. The bed also came up empty.
My eyes fell to the bedside drawer, the top one had a keyhole. I didn’t care about looking for the key. Using my magic, I tampered with the lock until the drawer popped open. There was a rattle as I opened the drawer the rest of the way. Inside was what I was dreading finding and yet what I had been looking for. Three full bottles of pills and three envelopes, the top one was addressed to Valkyrie. The second was addressed to Thor and the final one was addressed to me. Well, more likely my alternate self from this timeline. A part of me knew it would be wrong to read it, an invasion of something personal meant for someone else. But he wasn’t here, and I was.
Ignoring the other two letters, I opened the third one and pulled out the neatly folded pages.
Loki
I know it’s stupid writing this considering you won’t ever read it but I guess I just wanted to say things that I never got the chance to say. Firstly, I love you. I love you so much that I can no longer bear to be in this world without you. Every day without you grows harder and harder. Every time I look at the Asgardians, I can’t help but feel I’m failing them, just like I failed you. I should have been there; I should have stopped it. A lot of the days I wish Thanos had killed me instead or that I had been one of the unlucky ones wiped out in the snap. None of it was fair and even now when the Avengers claim they can bring everyone back, they can’t bring you back. All those people will have their loved ones back but me and it’s not fair. It's not fair that our future was torn away from us. And now any thoughts of what could have been only brings me further pain. Because there is no future for me without you, I cannot picture myself happy without you. And I tried, I tried for five years to see if it would get better, hoping that this darkness would fade. But there’s no light in this world without you. You were always my light, guiding me and comforting me. When you came into my life it's like all my fears were gone. I never thought I would have ever gotten married until I met you. You made me better without even trying, getting rid of the nightmares, the self-doubts and bad habits. You made me happy again, confident for the first time in my life, and you made me feel like I could finally take on the world. But none of it matters now. It was all too good to be true, like some fleeting dream that I can’t remember when I wake up. I’m sorry for taking this way out and I’m sorry for not doing it sooner but I’ll be with you soon enough.
All my love
Raven
My tears dotted the pages with every line I read, my heart breaking again. Ginger remained at my feet as if to offer some comfort and companionship. This explained her reaction when I had first arrived. She'd planned to do it that night likely after Valkyrie left. But Mobius had sent me there just in time. Just in time…that devious bastard had known the whole time. He sent me there to rewrite that timeline, to save her from herself, and to give us a second chance.

You Are My Synn
A LokixOC Fic
Word Count: 4.8k
Part 2/20
Tumblr media
Masterlist
Synn could barely contain her energy. She was wiggling around in her chair, despite having been reminded many times to sit still. They were learning mathematics, something she had absolutely no interest in. The boredom made her feel antsy and anxious. She felt that if she had to sit there and listen to Uncle Birger drone on about numbers and equations for one more minute, she was going to tear her hair out or bang her head against the table. Maybe even both.
Uncle Birger sighed, he knew Synn wasn’t doing it on purpose, but he wished she would listen. He was pretty sure that she hadn't retained a single thing he had said all day. He could see the dazed look in her eyes that meant she was off in her own little world, daydreaming again, only to come back to the present when he got her attention and immediately become restless. No matter how hard he tried, he was never able to get her to focus. He knew she had trouble with reading, the way she described it, like letters came alive and danced around the page, teasing her as she tried to make sense of it, he couldn’t blame her for getting frustrated.
“Okay,” Uncle Birger finally relented to Synn’s relentless energy, “that will be all for today, you are both free to go.”
“Thank you, Uncle Birger!” Synn exclaimed, hopping up from her chair.
“Can I go play with Frida?” Asta asked her father as Synn bolted for her room.
“Of course, you can.” He told his daughter.
“And be safe, Synn! Make sure you’re home before dark!” He called as he watched his niece scurry away with her box of gardening tools. Synn didn’t look back as she ran out of the door, shouting an unintelligible acknowledgment as she did. He pinched the bridge of his nose, that child would be the death of him yet.
Synn ran as fast as her legs could carry her. They lived close to the edge of the city, near the large forest that ran around the main town. She followed her usual path until she got to the marker, a cut-down tree stump with an ‘S’ she had carved into it. From there, she ran through the trees until she could not run any longer. It was only about ten minutes from her house, however, her father’s box of gardening tools was quite heavy.
She could have made a garden for herself in the patch behind the bakery that her father had used, but she couldn’t bring herself to ask her aunt to give up tending to the one personal thing her father had left for his sister. She was more than okay with using her father’s gardening book to forge her own path. She only knew her father through the stories her aunt told her. While it saddened her to have had to grow up without her parents, she loved her Aunt Astrid and Uncle Birger just as much as she did them.
When she made it to the small clearing, she caught her breath and knelt down beside her small garden. Once her breath had returned to a regular pace, she began examining her plants. She quickly lost herself in their care, making sure they were well watered and had enough nutrients. She had a variety of flowers in her garden and one small berry bush. It was all she had been able to scrounge together with the tips she received from customers at the bakery. All she had to do was act cute and innocent when giving them their baked goods and they would leave her something extra. Her aunt and uncle would laugh to themselves, amused at how easy it was for Synn to charm the customers, knowing that she was not as innocent as she acted. Not a diabolical scheme, but funny nonetheless.
Her favourite flowers were ones she had received from her aunt and uncle for her last birthday. They were called Moonflowers and just like the name would suggest, would only bloom under the moonlight, specifically the full moon. She loved to come out during the full moon and sit in awe as the flowers would open up and shine in the dim light. The only problem was that she wasn’t allowed out at night on her own, her aunt and uncle had made it very clear it was dangerous for her to be alone at night. That would have been fine but they never seemed to want to come out on the night of the full moon. They gave excuses like they had to work early the next day or they weren’t feeling well, and Synn understood, but she never failed to be disappointed. She had only seen them bloom twice so far, the memory of their beautiful petals opening up and revealing their hidden beauty was a treasured memory.
Synn had taken to singing to her plants. One of the customers had suggested it to her a few weeks ago. The woman told her that plants like to hear not only her speaking voice but her singing voice as well. Synn had marvelled at the idea that her plants could listen and had taken to talking and singing to her plants, hoping it would help them grow up big and strong. She would often pretend she was talking to her parents or imagine them singing a lullaby to her as she was to the plants. She was no fantastic singer, but she could carry a tune with some accuracy. She would definitely never sing in front of people, but in the forest on her own, surrounded by the calming presence of her garden, she felt comfortable being herself.
While Synn was in the process of kneeling in front of and singing a lullaby to her berry bush, a strange shadow fell over the garden. She stopped singing and blinked, not recognizing the odd cylindrical shape. The sound of someone clearing their throat got her attention. She jumped, having been startled by the sudden sound, falling over and gracelessly hitting her butt off the ground.
Synn looked up at the intruder. She had been so entranced with her garden that she didn’t hear them come close. The person who had so rudely interrupted her was a boy around her age. He had jet black hair that was slicked back tightly against his head, stopping just below his ears. His eyes were a light but piercing green and his gaze just as intense. He had on green, gold, and black robes that complimented his features. He held himself with an air of sophistication, holding his head high and his shoulders perfectly straight.  He was only a few feet from her and was looking at her expectantly, waiting for her to speak first. When Synn did nothing but stare up at him he rolled his eyes.
“Can’t you speak, village girl?” He asked, judgment clear in his voice.
“You clearly just heard me singing, why wouldn’t I be able to speak.” Synn retorted, sitting back on her calves. He had been the one to interrupt her, why was he the one acting as if she was the one in the wrong? She’d been using this space to garden for a few years and no one had bothered her here before, how and why had the boy come here?
“What are you doing?” The boy asked.
“I don’t think I’ll tell you,”  Synn crossed her arms and looked away from the boy, nose lifted high in the air, “If you are going to be rude then you can leave.”
Synn pointed back behind the boy, assuming that was the way he had come from. There was silence for a moment, the boy standing beside her, looking at her incredulously. He had never had someone, other than his parents and brother, be so abrupt with him before, let alone someone not answer his question. Who was this girl and why did she think she could treat him like any other commoner? Did she not know who he was? How much trouble she could be in for addressing him in such a course manner?
It occurred to him that he was rather far from the palace, there was a chance that the children here wouldn’t recognize him. It wasn’t every day that he was treated as though he wasn’t a prince. Briefly reflecting on his interactions with other children in the palace, he realized that this girl’s obliviousness to who he was had presented an opportunity. While he did enjoy having superiority over his peers, he did find himself longing for someone to be unafraid of him and the power he held. Getting his way was lovely, but he felt unstimulated in those interactions, with no one to use his intellect against. Finally, he had someone challenge him and backing down wasn’t in his nature.
“I’m Loki,” He said with a small bow. “I apologize for my impertinence before, I will not do it again.” The boy, Loki, held out his hand. Synn looked at him with a side-eyed glance and huffed lightly when she realized he wasn’t going to leave her alone.
“I’m Synn.” She reached out to shake his hand. Loki grimaced as he realized that her dirt-covered hand had now infected his and subtly wiped it away when she let go. Before he could rethink his decision to pretend he was a regular child, Loki sat down beside Synn, earning him a raised eyebrow, however, she said nothing and went back to her gardening work. Her berry bush required some trimming.
“What flower is this?” He asked, pointing to the flower in front of him.
“A moonflower.” Synn didn’t so much as a glance in his direction. Loki reached out to touch the flower bud, tapping it on top. It wasn’t opened like the rest of the flowers, Loki figured it was probably defective.
“It doesn’t seem like a particularly interesting flower, it’s only a closed bud.” Loki mused. Synn hummed in response, not really listening to him. She had no idea why this odd boy was still in her garden. Loki reached down, and before Synn could realize what he was doing, he picked one of the moonflowers, tearing it from the stem.
“What are you doing!” Synn demanded, jumping to her feet, fists balled tightly at her sides. Those were her special flowers, who did this boy think he was? You can’t just pick flowers out of someone else’s garden. Loki’s eyebrows shot up in surprise, his mouth opening slightly in shock. He hadn’t expected her to react so strongly, it was just a flower after all.
“It’s not blooming like the rest of the garden, I didn’t mean to upset you,” Loki was sincere, he hadn’t meant any harm by it. He had only been trying to find a way to make Synn pay attention to him, “I thought I could fix it.”
Synn deflated slightly, still feeling frustrated, but she could see the genuine look on his face. Had Loki never learned anything about plants? If he had he would know that picking it would do the opposite of fixing it.
“It’s a moonflower, it only blossoms under a full moon, that’s why the petals aren’t open. They’re my favourite flower and I work very hard to keep them happy.” Synn tried her best to keep the irritation from slipping into her voice but found herself failing, “Besides, how would picking it help fix it? You’ve just killed it.”
“I can fix it,” Loki said, matter-of-factly, “Watch.”
Synn put her hands on her hips, highly doubting he’d be able to do anything to revive the plant, but humoured him nonetheless. Loki held the flower out with one hand, the severed stems lining up, and waved his other hand over the top of the bud. A green shimmer shone in the air as he did so, and to Synn’s surprise, the stem fused back together again. Synn stood there, slack-jawed and in awe, she had never seen anything like that before. She knelt back down beside the flower and gingerly touched the stem where it had been broken. It felt whole again. Synn glanced back at Loki who had an expectant look on his face.
“How did you do that?” Synn asked.
“Magic.” Loki was smug, he couldn’t help himself when others were intrigued by his skill.
“I’ve never seen magic before, can you do any other tricks?” Synn asked. She was so excited by the sudden use of magic, that she had forgotten all about her irritation towards him. She had forgiven him without thought. Not only had he fixed his mistake, but done so in a way that intrigued her more than she would like to admit. The forgiving nature of ten-year-olds had its perks.
“Only if you ask nicely,” Loki smirked.
Synn gave him an unimpressed look, “Pretty please.”
“We’ll have to work on the enthusiasm,” He mused, “But it is acceptable for now.” He had decided that since it was Synn’s first experience with magic he would take it easy, he was enjoying the rapt attention she had just started giving him and didn’t want to scare her away.
Watching Loki show her magic trick after magic trick had Synn squealing with delight and excitedly asking him every question she could think of. Time seemed to fly by, her garden neglected for the time being, this was much more important.
As the hours wore on, Loki showed her one of his favourite tricks: fireworks popping out of his palm. Synn watched with rapt attention, the colours reflecting in her wide eyes.
“Who taught you that?” Synn asked.
“My mother, she’s taught me most of what I know.”
“She must be pretty amazing.” Synn smiled, tearing her eyes away from the fireworks to smile at him.
“She is,” Loki boasted, “what about your mom, is she the one who taught you to garden?”
“It was my dad’s interest in gardening that got me into it,” Synn responded, the smile sliding off her face, “though he didn’t teach any of it to me, I read it in his old books. My parents fought in Odin’s Army and they died when I was a baby. I live with my aunt and uncle who own the family bakery now.”
“Oh, I’m sorry for your loss.” Loki closed his hand, the fireworks disappearing.
“Don’t apologize, it’s not like you killed them.” Synn shrugged, people apologized to her whenever they heard about her parents. She didn’t understand it, she didn’t want their pity, it was just a fact of her life, “The Frost Giants are the ones that killed them. I don’t remember them anyways and I love my aunt and uncle, plus I get to live with my cousin Asta and she’s pretty great.” Synn explained, quickly burying the stinging feeling in her chest. She was used to the feeling, she missed them every day, while it pained her, she continued to carry it, surrounding those negative feelings with the love she had for her aunt, uncle, and cousin. She didn’t want anyone to feel burdened by her emotions, they had enough of their own to deal with, and she didn’t want people to think she was complaining about her life.
Loki nodded in understanding. He had heard stories from his father about the war with the Frost Giants, it had taken many lives.
The sun had begun to set. Synn sighed, knowing her aunt and uncle would want her home soon.
“You can’t stay out past dusk?” Loki asked when she informed him of the house rule.
“I’m not supposed to be out here alone at night.” Synn shrugged, she didn’t like breaking rules. She had lost track of time before and the disappointed look on her aunt and uncle’s face was all that was needed to make sure she never did it again.
Loki didn’t want their time together to end. He had enjoyed Synn’s company. The awed attentiveness she paid him was gratifying and he had found her honest and bubbly personality strangely charming. She was oblivious but smart and kind in her own way. She was different from those at the castle who tended to shy away from him. She was not afraid to get close to him or ask him question after question, even if he found that part a bit annoying, the pure curiosity in her eyes was endearing enough to make up for it. The way her nose would scrunch when she giggled at her own jokes or when she treated him like just another kid without fear of repercussions… Well, he wasn’t quite sure how it made him feel, but he knew he didn’t want that feeling to end.
“Can I meet you here again?” Loki asked, “There is a full moon this weekend, perhaps you could show me the Moonflower?”
“Yes!” Synn exclaimed, “I would like that.”
She felt excitement build in her chest as she thought of being able to show someone knew her favourite flower, only to have her bubble burst when she remembered her aunt and uncle’s rule.
“But I’m not supposed to be out at night on my own.” Synn hung her head in disappointment. Loki considered this for a moment, coming up with the perfect scheme. Schemes were his specialty after all.
“Well you won’t be alone, will you? I’d be here.” He pointed out.
“That could work” Synn smiled shyly at him. Loki was right, her aunt and uncle had not specified that she had to be with them, simply that she was not supposed to go alone. She would not technically be breaking any rules and her conscience would be clear.
“I will see you here at sunset?” Loki asked.
“Yes,” Synn confirmed, “I will see you then.”
The two children parted ways with a wave, excited at the prospect of spending more time together, though Synn would be lying if she said she was not more excited to see the Moonflowers again. She had enjoyed spending time with Loki, he was a little strange at first but it seemed to her that he hadn’t had much of a chance to be a real kid. She had been taught by her aunt and uncle that children from rich families were often expected to be proper and poised at all times, showing off the best of their family. It left little time to play and enjoy things that Synn took for granted, like playing tag through the Bakery with Asta. From his fancy clothing and access to magic lessons, she assumed he must come from a wealthy home. She was more than happy to teach him how to enjoy his childhood in exchange for showing her magic tricks and allowing her the chance to see her moonflowers bloom.
Synn ran back home with her gardening toolbox, falling asleep that night as soon as her head hit the pillow, the excitement of the day had exhausted her.
The day that she was set to meet Loki again went at a horribly sluggish pace. To fill the time Synn and Asta played around the backyard and took breaks to head into the store and talk with their favourite customers. It had been relaxing, yet Synn was still buzzing with excitement. Her family gave her some curious glances but said nothing. Synn’s tendency to have random bursts of energy made her family quite used to her behaviour.
The girls were tucked into bed as the sun started to set, Astrid and Birger giving them both a kiss on the head before bidding them goodnight. Synn waited, listening closely as her cousin’s breaths became quieter and farther apart. Once her aunt and uncle’s door closed, the sun had completely set.
Synn hopped out of bed, hastily threw her clothes back on, and tip-toes as quiet as a mouse out of the house. While she knew she was technically not breaking the rules, she was pretty sure her aunt and uncle would change them if she was caught, and she was too focused on seeing her moonflowers again to care.
By the time Synn arrived at the garden, panting from her sprint, Loki was already waiting for her.
“What took you so long?” He asked, hands on his hips. “I could have been eaten by a wild beast and no one would ever know how valiantly I fought.” He mimed sword fighting with the poise of someone who had more theatre teachings than real-life fighting practice. Yes, he was a spoiled rich kid. Synn would have to take it upon herself to teach him how to relax a little. Still, she let out a breathless laugh at his antics.
“Sneaking out wasn’t easy, you know,” Synn wheezed and bent over to put her hands on her knees. “I got here as quick as I could. The Moonflowers don’t bloom until the full moon hits them anyway so we have some time.”
The two children sat down in front of the Moonflowers, waiting patiently as the moon rose in the sky, slowly casting its soft glow over the garden. Synn nudged Loki to make sure he was paying attention when the flowers started to bloom. Loki looked over at Synn, the anticipation palpable on her face. Her light blonde curls shone in the glow of the moonlight, lighting it up in an almost ethereal way. Her skin looked soft and her eyes a dark grey. Loki watched her for a moment, unable to look away.
“Don’t look at me!” Synn exclaimed, having looked over at him to make sure he was paying attention. She grabbed Loki’s chin and pointed his face at the garden. “Look at the flowers.”
Synn pointed to the flowers as the small pale buds opened up to show off their startlingly white, soft petals that were spotted with blue swirls. The center was a honey yellow, and the moonlight made it look like there were sparkles all throughout it.
“Beautiful,” Loki murmured, looking back at Synn. Her smile was blinding, and Loki found himself unable to think of much else.
“I love how they don’t open up until the light hits them perfectly. It’s like they are holding themselves back so that they can startle you with how beautiful they are all at once,” Synn gushed, still staring at the garden. Loki shook his head lightly, knocking himself out of the thoughts that had enveloped his mind.
“Yes, the flowers, very nice,” Loki said, blushing slightly as his heart hammered in his chest. Synn, being as oblivious as she was, had not noticed.
She flopped back onto the ground, looking up at the night sky. She sighed deeply and patted the ground next to her, signalling for Loki to lie down as well. Loki did as asked and quickly found a way to distract himself from his earlier feelings.
“What do you know of the constellations?” Loki asked her.
“Not much,” Synn waved her hand in disinterest, Birger had droned on about the stars, but Synn hadn’t been paying much attention, “Uncle Birger has tried to teach us about them many times, but remembering their positions is so boring.”
Loki chuckled, Synn cutting him off as she continued her train of thought.
“I can’t stand being bored, I’d much rather be out here, or even baking in the store, at least I get to do stuff. Learning about the names and positions of the constellations and the galaxies they contain has never had much of a pull for me.”
“My mom taught me stories to help me remember them, perhaps that would be of interest to you?” Loki offered, chuckling at Synn’s exasperation for learning.
“I love stories!” Synn gasped, looking at Loki, her hands pressed together, giving him her best pouty lip and innocent eyes. “Please, please tell them to me.”
“You know I did offer to tell you the stories, you don’t have to beg.” Loki drawled, a grin plastered on his face.
Loki spent the next hour telling Synn about the constellations. Synn oohing and aahing at the right moments to encourage Loki to continue. When Loki came to the end of his stories, the two sat in silence for a moment, enjoying the beautiful, clear, starry sky, and the still blooming flowers at their feet. After a moment Synn spoke up.
“Thank you for telling me those stories, I really enjoyed them.” Synn suddenly felt nervous. While their relationship had gotten off to a rocky start, Synn had found that she enjoyed Loki’s company. Once she had gotten past his rough exterior, he was rather fun to have around.
“Anytime, Synn,” Loki said. She looked over at the boy beside her. His hair and clothes had been slightly ruffled from laying on the ground for so long. She found herself liking that she got to see him like this, he was so put together when they had first met, it was nice to see the kid behind the fancy robes.
“Doyouwanttobemyfriend?” Synn rushed out. She’d never asked someone to be her friend before, there weren’t many other kids her age around, and the ones that were were not ones that she enjoyed hanging out with, outside of a couple of games here and there. Asta was her friend, but that felt different, she was also her family.
“What?” Loki looked over at her, furrowing his brow. Synn took a deep breath and tried again.
“Do you want to be my friend?” Synn asked, a hopeful look in her eyes.
“I don’t have any friends.” Loki deadpanned. For a moment Synn’s heart dropped in her chest, she had thought that a rejection of friendship was possible but she had truly believed that Loki had at least moderately enjoyed her company. Loki, seeing the heartbroken look on her face, quickly realized what he had accidentally implied. He propped himself up on his elbow, turning to look down at her, one hand waving off what looked to be tears welling in her eyes.
“I meant that I don’t have any friends, but I would like one. I would like to be your friend, Synn.” Loki grinned apologetically. He could punch himself he felt so dumb, what happened to his silver tongue? All the charm he had with everyone else dropped away as soon as he was with Synn. He had only known her for a couple of days and already she had taken hold of him and clouded his thoughts with unfamiliar feelings.
“Oh,” Synn said. They both lay there awkwardly for a moment before Synn smiled wide.
“Well I’m glad you accept, you won’t be getting rid of me now. No takesies backsies.” Synn pushed Loki playfully, making him work hard to keep his balance.
“Whatever will I do now that I am in this lifelong binding contract?” Loki rolled his eyes, a smile on his face.
“Deal with it.” Synn stood up, offering Loki her hand. Loki took it and Synn pulled him up before releasing him.
“I’ll see you next week?” Synn asked.
“Do I have a choice?” Loki teased. Synn laughed and shook her head. No, he did not.
Loki started to turn away, heading back home, before Synn impulsively rushed in and wrapped her arms around his middle in the most surprising hug he’d ever received. Synn was known for her tight hugs and Loki coughed as the air was squeezed out of him. It was too quick for Loki to react and before he could move or say anything, Synn was running off, but not before shouting back at him.
“Thank you for being my friend!”
Synn didn’t look back, running until she reached the path and then walked the rest of the way home. If she had she would have seen Loki, standing in the opening, with a wide smile covering his face. She was awkward but sweet and Loki had to admit that she had a certain charm to her. She was easy to get along with and Loki found he couldn’t imagine not wanting to be around her, her simple joy giving him a view of life he hadn’t known he needed.
When Synn arrived home, she opened the door as quietly as possible, tip-toeing across the creaky wooden floor. She was almost in her bedroom, thinking she had made it undetected when a light flicked on in the kitchen. The light lit up the room, illuminating the figure of her aunt sitting at the kitchen table, her face set in disappointment.
“And where have you been?” Astrid asked, her voice implying that she was well aware of where Synn was. Synn, knowing she wasn’t going to get out of this, gave her aunt her best innocent smile, looking coyly up at her through long, dark lashes.
“Sleepwalking?”

Waking with a sudden terrifying start, Faolán took deep breaths as he tried to settle himself before turning over to lay down on his front. His nerves were frayed from a nightmare that was fast fading from hazy memories. The clash of battle, the screams of pain, the stench of burnt flesh and the taste of copper in his mouth disturbed him. A dull pain had settled within his chest; he put it down to sleeping with too many pillows and the previous evening’s food and drinking. Unsettled by the pain and fading nightmare, he rolled over onto his back; Faolán huffed, now his back was aching in protest.
Had Loki managed to sneak even more pillows into his bed ? It certainly felt like that.
Thinking of Loki, Faolán wondered where the god might be. He gently touched the space that the prince had formally occupied to only find the lingering traces of Loki’s superior body heat remaining. So he had not been gone too long then. No sounds were emanating from the bathroom, so he assumed the god had decided to do something else in the house.
It provided Faolán with an opportunity!
He grabbed pillows and began to toss them beneath his bed; he was aware that would be the first place Loki would look, but he just wanted a reprieve  for now . He was about to toss a pillow covered in a luxurious silk cover when he noticed Loki (as a snake) constricting another pillow. It was impossible to tell if the god was awake or asleep (Faolán was too drunk to remember if snakes had eyelids or not) until the emerald and cobalt serpent hissed so violently his body (and the bed) seemed to shake.
⸢Replace that pillow at once! ⸥ The god complained loudly and angrily.
“Hangover?” Faolán asked, genuinely amused by how disgusted the god sounded.
⸢Yes, now, please will you return the pillow to its correct place so I may sleep without the sun assaulting my vision!⸥ Loki whined with a slight hiss. He didn’t have the heart to remind Loki that the sun had not made an appearance for weeks.
