Ways that JP could have made the Erasers into formidable threats instead of caricatures of incompetent henchmen:
(AKA: Wasp throws spaghetti at a wall to see what sticks while writing part 3 of LTNW, because JP gave them plenty of ‘upgrades’, but none of them actually made them into threats.)
Make more of them into recurring characters: A small elite team to match the flock, on top of the School using them as guards. This would personalize them beyond Ari, and a smaller “strike team” would be treated as much like canon fodder. This comes with the bonus of, if the flock does manage to kill one Eraser, that gives Ari and co. an even more personal reason to want the flock dead.
Let them learn: If the Erasers learn from the flock, then the flock’s fighting techniques slowly become redundant. A technique that would have let the flock escape in book one is useless in book 3, thus making the flock have to train themselves and improve, and become more and more ruthless as time goes on.
Lean into their tracking and endurance skills: This is coming from someone who knows fuck-all about wolves, but most canines are good at tracking their prey, and they don’t tire out nearly as quickly as birds do. The flock might be really good at fighting, but they’re not nearly as adept at covering their tracks. Beating the Erasers in a fight and escaping is one thing. Beating them in a fight, escaping, and then having to fight them again the moment they touch down is entirely different.
Harpoon guns: OKAY OKAY OKAY this one might be out there, but hear me out. As an alternative to wings that allow the Erasers to rise to the flock’s level, give them the means to drag them back down to the ground with the rest of the mortals. Not only does it circumvent the ‘winged eraser’ problem, but it would only take one case of harpoon-through-the-wing-or-stomach for the flock to realize that the Erasers aren’t playing by the rules they used to play by.
Actually let the flock be afraid of and hurt by them: In the end, none of the upgrades in the world will do anything if the flock doesn’t show any fear of these Erasers, and if they keep winning (nearly) every fight against them. So have Fang freeze up the first time they have to fight an Eraser after they were hospitalized by Ari. Have the flock have to run away from fights instead of forcing the Erasers into a retreat. Make Max nearly lose Gazzy or Nudge because she’s so focused on not letting Angel be taken again. Let them get scared and make mistakes, and let those mistakes cost them.

This place is not a place of honor... no highly esteemed deed is commemorated here... nothing valued is here.
What is here was dangerous and repulsive to us. This message is a warning about danger.
The danger is in a particular location... it increases towards a center... the center of danger is here... of a particular size and shape, and below us.
The danger is still present, in your time, as it was in ours.
The danger is to the body, and it can kill.
The form of the danger is an emanation of energy.
The danger is unleashed only if you substantially disturb this place physically. This place is best shunned and left uninhabited.

OH! OH!! DreamSMP bad ending au!!!
(This one’s dark, beware!)
More and more war splits the server until c!Dream doesn’t want control anymore, he just wants death. Maybe he’s losing his mind, maybe DXD is involved. He goes on a killing spree. c!Tubbo sees his last option to be using the nuke. But Dream meddles with it, causing it to detonate in Tubbo’s hands, taking out all of Snowchester.
c!Wilbur tries the “Do as I say or I’ll kill myself”-trick again. Dream stabs him before he finishes the sentence.
c!Philza, c!Techno and c!Niki feel the hair on the back of their necks tingling as they sit around the table of the Syndicate. DXD finally had enough of them being within close proximity of his portal. So he erases them from existence. The Syndicate doesn’t exist. It never existed. Its members? I don’t know what you’re talking about, the death goddess has always been single!
c!Tommy and c!Eryn try to protect each other, which only ends in them both getting killed.
c!Foolish can’t stop the death. He can feel it but he can’t stop it, can’t stop it, can’t-
He doesn’t need to. He needs to be powerful.
He needs to regain his abilities. He needs to earn the place at XD’s side.
c!Callahan has to, once more, watch a world be destroyed beyond recognition.
And c!Eret? Dream can’t kill her. His axe always seems to miss at the critical moment. DXD doesn’t want to try to kill her. He doesn’t explain why. Foolish? He tried. But he only managed to break Eret’s heart. So Dream locks her up. In a newer, better version of Pandora’s Vault. Did XD help design it? Maybe. That’s not important. What’s important is that Eret can not be allowed to escape, ever. So Dream puts a sign at the prison’s door:
“This place is a message... and part of a system of messages... pay attention to it!
Sending this message was important to me. I considered myself to be a powerful ruler.
This place is not a place of honor... no highly esteemed deed is commemorated here... nothing valued is here.
What is here was dangerous and repulsive to me. This message is a warning about danger.
The danger is in a particular location... it increases towards a center... the center of danger is here.
The danger is still present, in your time, as it was in mine.
The danger is to the body, and it can kill.
The danger is unleashed only if you substantially disturb this place physically. This place is best shunned and left uninhabited.”
And so there Eret sits, thousands of years after Dream died, hundreds of years after XD abandoned the lands, a decade after Foolish’s last visit.
And she wishes she had taken Dream’s deal, back then. Wishes she could have subtly changed the SMP from the inside, as its king.
She wishes and begs and prays (who is she praying to? No god would ever answer her of all people).
And one day
the universe
yields.

By the way, the irony of the whole “this is not a place of honor” warning needing to be memorable, causing people to spread it in a non-‘nuclear waste site best left undisturbed’ context, thus degrading its usefulness as a warning is not lost on me, though I fear it will be lost on its intended recipients.

Introduction
Greetings, I'm Ulysses, an aspiring writer and artist from Sweden. This blog will feature snippets of my writings, which will be in both Swedish and English. I have three main original writing projects I'm working on, as well as some fanfiction and some random shorter snippets. This blog is a sideblog of @autumnal-rains, where you'll find more of my art as well as other things. My main three projects are:
Den Sista Sången/ The Last Song: An epic fantasy following Inga Stordåd Här Helgas and Valld Loque as they try to figure out the cause of the coming apocalypse and how to stop it. Part epic fantasy, part horror, part mystery. Influenced mainly by Nausicäa of the Valley of the Wind, Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer, the Lord of The Rings, and Pathologic by Ice-pick Lodge, with the primary magic system used by the main characters based on Haruspicy and the necromancy of ancient Greece
As yet unnamed scifi project: A sci-fi mystery following a nameless protagonist who works as an insurance inspector, sent to the luxurious space-colony Elusis on Venus to investigate its distress signal and subsequent radio silence in order to compose a preliminary report on how much insurance money the company she works for will need to pay. Also missing is a former friend, a xeno-biologist who was at Venus to study microbiotic lifeforms in the Venusian atmosphere. Influenced mainly by the Manifesto of the Commitee to Abolish Outer Space by Sam Kriss for the New Inquiry, and The Return of the Obra Dinn by Lucas Pope. And also Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer
Hymn till den döde Guden Ulam/ Hymn to the dead god Ulam: Set in the same universe as The Last Song but thousands of years before it, this story focuses on two twins, Helga and Inga, who live in a nomadic society focused on guarding a great patch of the desert filled with ominous monuments that stretch for miles, where a dead god lies buried. Helga is a priestess in training to this dead god. The core of their society is the resolute belief that the tomb must not be disturbed, that whatever is buried there is better left alone, lest an apocalypse be unleashed. When a nearby empire, blinded by greed, start digging around the tomb for the magnificent crystals that lie buried there, conflict ensues. Influenced mainly by Long Term Nuclear Waste Storage, particularly the WIPP in New Mexico, and The Locked Tomb trilogy by Tamsyn Muir

Working on Book 2 of the Re-Write, so I get to illustrate another character. Have Mike Rivers aka Mike from the sewers aka Michael from the Bronx. Changed his computer from a Mac to a Lenovo because no one should trust Apple.
(Lyrics read “No one’s gonna worry /  Or notice when I’m gone / They won’t know I’m missing / ‘Till they pull me out the Mystic” from The Mystic by Adam Jensen)
