A Certain Persistent Rain || Sibyl || Trial 5-2 || RE: Yuuto, Shigure, Kanna, Kaneko
Huh.... Well Yuuto brought some information to the table that was new to her, actually. She ruminated on it for a moment, pondering its relevance.
"A... hatred towards all of humanity, so... Not just a single person's actions... I-I think... Maybe that makes sense? With how instant the onryo is that no one should be happy at all."
It was a bit different than her other onryo encounter, wasn't it? Though that was also on a much much smaller scale, the motivations still seemed different. Not every onryo was the same, she supposed.
Hm, though... Kanna's point... Sibyl fidgeted with her rubber bands, snapping them a couple of times as she decided whether or not to acknowledge the point. While she had something in mind for it, if she contradicted Kanna in any form, it might not have resonated well with the room. The familiar bumble bees feeling arose in her stomach. Urgh.
Tumblr media
"I-I um... The... Th-the lack of privacy thing... I... think... you're onto something, b-but... Also, the phrasing. 'Have eyes only for me.' I-I just... think that implies the onryo wants the attention, to some extent? Even if not... Everything that comes with it."
Not even a request, but a demand that the people around them pay attention to them. At least if it was interpreted as a literal statement, right? ... Who knew anymore.
Tumblr media
"Ah... Kaneko-san, there's no specific year attached to February 10th, so it's less of a single day and more of... any February 10th you've lived, I think? I... The... most significant events that I can think of for me were... one in early October and one in mid-March-ish? give or take, I don't remember... dates perfectly like that."
Not unless it was a birthday or a major holiday. She'd never had anything like an anniversary to worry about either, given her parental situation and lack of a love life. But weren't most people like that? Dates tended to blur together.
"But you might have a point on the... 'cute' thing, I think? I-In tandem with Shigure-san's point on the dollhouse... doll metaphors... It might not necessarily be... their preference, but it also could be a part of their daily life, anyway. U-Um... aesthetics, I-I mean."
Sibyl twirled a piece of her hair around her finger, before she unceremoniously got it caught in one of her rubber bands. She let out the tiniest of 'ow's before pausing to untangle the two. Ah, yes... how graceful of her. Embarrassed, a slight pink tint covered her cheeks.
"I just... I don't think that... There's necessarily a reason to not speak up about if you're suspicious that it might be you, either.... U-Um... If we can't g-get this, then... The onryo will likely be free to continue their rampage again. It'd be like sacrificing countless people, and ultimately the original body as the onryo would continue to seek to merge, a-and, um... I-I don't know, I just... Don't think anyone here would be ok with that, especially since... I'd want to do everything I can to keep them alive. Since... Rei would break their seal, right?"
Maybe that was a bit optimistic of her to believe, but... None of her classmates struck her as monsters.

I'M SO HAPPY THAT SOMEONE ELSE IN THE FANDOM LOVES KANNA AS WELL, BUT I'M NOT SURE IF THIS MEANS BATTLE FOR CUSTODY BECAUSE I SIGNED THOSE ADOPTION PAPERS LONG AGO.
Tumblr media
You're not taking my little adorable unemotional baby away from me!
But I can settle to share the custody, she deserves two loving parents
You can have her on wednesdays and I can have her the rest of the week.

I would love to know Shin’s real feelings towards Alice/Reko’s death because I’m not buying for a minute that he doesn’t care. I’ve already shown proof that Shin care’s still cares for the other people in the game, but his reaction in the second screenshot proves it. Their death has to be a big blown to him. Q-Taro and them were the only people he had left that didn’t vote for Kanna. From the sound of Shin’s monologue after Kanna’s death, it didn’t even sound like he wanted to kill them.
“...I'll kill you... / Worthless... It's all worthless... / The Floor Masters... Sara... / Every one of the riffraff... / I'll kill every one of you who killed Kanna...!! / That's right... and first... will be Sara...”
I wonder if in the final chapter Shin will bring them up and share his real thoughts, or if the player will be left to speculate what was really going through his head.
Regardless if he wanted them dead or not, his reasons for leaving their body is because he cares about the others. Maple’s on a rampage, and Ranmaru is with everyone else after just killing a person. Shin wants to follow them and see what’s going on. He even says Sara staying with the already dead Reko is selfish considering the situation. Which he’s not wrong about.
Funnily enough, I think he’s doing what Reko and Alice would want him too. I think they would want everyone to be in a group looking out for each other instead of staying alone and gawking at their bodies.
Anyways, this was a long rant but I really love Shin’s reaction to this scene and how telling it is to his character.

the kagura/naraku callouts are so heavy haded at this point you’d need to be blind not to see them. we have:
riku being a "puppet" of kirinmaru/zero looking to betray one and aid the other. in achieving freedom [kanna anyone?]
zero literally using spider powers, one of her powers is referencing a kabuki play/dance a la kagura
her fake name is otsuyu which is a reference to a japanese love/ghost story where the general concept is "falling in love/being in love with a dead woman will bring misery"
-she is no longer a demon but retains some sort of power through naraku-esque magic [where did she get it?]
sesshomaru learns about setsuna’s rampage via The Wind
setsuna has wings, apparently they’re connected to zero who controls that damn butterfly spider
rin is also connected to zero
she’s the spider at the center of the plot web so to speak
not to mention we have zero plotting to betray kirinmaru...which is a familiar dynamic i stg if zero is just a kagura reincarnation set on “keeping sessr*n apart” i will lose my fucking mind

ATLA AU: Waterbender Zuko
After eating an entire tray of chocolate-chip cookies and brownies and then subsequently falling into a sugar crash induced nap, I woke up with an avatar the last airbender fanfiction idea, its mainly based around zuko cause he's my fav.
its nothing much, just a sugar-coma induced spur of imagination, based around the notion of, "hey what if zuko, was a waterbender and related to Hama" yeah its weird.
so the main premise goes, fairly the same, hama learns blood bending, hama tries to escape, but fails, her bending is brought to the attention of sozin, who wants to have her blood bending within the royal bloodline, so he makes azulon take hama as a second bride to bare a child with the same ability, Kallik is born about one year before ozai and about a decade or so after iroh, meaning iroh and ozai are kallik's half-brothers since they share the same father obviously lol.
Kallik is a water bender and does inherit Hama's blood bending, but heals with it instead of harming, to learn more about healing/medicine, Kallik travels all across the fire nation to study under other healers, in this he meets Ursa, they become friends then lovers and then get married, and unlike ozai's relationship with ursa in canon, Kallik and ursa are very much in love and very caring to each other.
but it doesn't last, a year after zuko is born Kallik is sent to oversee a project overseas in the colonies, and after ozai discovers ursa is related to the late avatar roku, and wanting ursa so she can bare ozai a strong heir he causes an accident on kallik's ship making it so kallik would be lost at sea, then made ursa marry him, yes ozai is as much a bastard as he is in canon.
azula is born a year later, so zuko and azula are half siblings, after kalliks supposed death at sea, hama, who had been kept within the palace escaped, this brings us to near present, and things pretty much progress the same, aside from zuko being a water bender instead of a firebender. and of course ursa had to leave to protect zuko, but instead of what happened in the comics, ursa, after leaving, instead began searching the whole world, mainly the islands around the fire nation and the earth kingdom, for her husband kallik as she believes he's alive somewhere in the world. and he is. his ship was close to the southern water tribe when it was sabotaged, and managed to use his water bending to survive the freezing water, and he managed to wash ashore on the southern water tribe as for the rest, it goes fairly beat for beat, zuko gets scared and banished by ozai in an angi kai and is given the task to find the avatar, sokka and kataras mother still dies, and all that jazz.
the rest would follow the main canon story a bit, with a few minor differences, but these are mostly preference, zuko doesn't really follow through with the quest to hunt the avatar and instead tries to find his mother instead cause in this fic ursa told zuko she was being banished instead of just up and disappearing. he does still barge into the southern water tribe, there he meets his long thought to be dead father kallik, at which point kallik and zuko have a tearful reunion, kallik discovers ozai gave zuko the massive scar on his eye, leading to a slightly comedic moment where zuko, sokka, katara, kanna, and iroh have to try and reason with a really mad kallik and dissuade him from a, "murder my evil younger half brother" rampage. so yeah zuko joins the gang early, iroh and kallik the bending brother duo decide to try and dethrone ozai, iroh stays sailing to keep normalcy and Kallik starts and underground revolution in the colonies and fire nation.
and again, everything happens the same except water bender zuko is also joining. also ursa is still alive, and she owns a healing clinic in the lower ring of ba sing se. and on a side note, zuko and katara practice water bending together and sword fighting with sokka, and also acts like a big brother to aang.
also yue will totally be alive in this, she deserved to live. and that brings me to the next notion, on ships prefreably I’ll leave it ambiguous and just hint at every ship until I decide, but zuko/yue is really up there on my shipping list so you all know.

how do you reckon things would change if Obito and Kakashi remembered their past lives as Izuna and Kanna? (And have you given a past incarnation of Rin in the Warring Era?)
… @deverickracoma you mean, like in canon? Huhhhh…
Well first off before Rin was Nohara Rin she was Senju Touka. Which makes this situation super fun because both Izuna and Kanna died before Hashirama strong armed Konoha into existence and Touka only went along with it because Her Stupid Little Cousins Need Some Common Sense. XP
In her lives as both as Touka and as Rin she holds the single (1) braincell for this Disaster Trio.
So Izuna dies via Tobirama’s sword. And then Kanna kinda… revenge rampages with Madara until the critical angst threshold is reached as Kanna just… explodes both theirself and the battlefield.
There’s a whole lot of background stuff behind the suicide run such as Kanna’s Hatake side suffering from mate-loss depression and their Uchiha side suffering from Makengyou Madness and also Really Bad post-partum depression compounding it and yeah. Unfortunately Madara is just as wrecked from Izuna’s death so he can’t really support Kanna and it all goes to shit because we all know canon is a shitshow.
But anyway Touka is there to see Izuna die and she is well aware that Tobirama has just made a horrible decision driven by unacknowledged jealously and overzealous paranoia. Then Touka barely manages to save Tobirama’s pasty ass from the screaming revenge demon that she later learns was Izuna’s wife. And then Touka stands witness as Hashirama forces peace at sword point.
So Touka is just there like, “Oh for fucks sake we’re all going to die horribly.”
And, of course, Touka was right everything is horrible and everything hurts.
Only now it’s plot-twist time and Touka, who was investigating certain questionable sources about the ongoing breakdown of social order in Konoha gets killed by Zetsu in order to cause even more tension against the Uchiha in Konoha and hey guess what? Yeah, that’s right Rin remembers the creepy plant-demon thing gloating about stealing Uchiha Madara (aka the only one vaguely strong enough to combat Kaguya at that time given he had naturally manifested the Rinnegan) for his own use before Zetsu killed her in a suspiciously ambiguous manner.
Shit.
Fuck.
Four year old Nohara Rin has a vendetta and the ability to kill a grown man.
So obviously given that the Plant Demon is trying to kill off the Uchiha using shadowy assassinations and rumour mongering the Plant Demon is afraid of the Uchiha. Ergo the Uchiha are a threat to the Plant Demon otherwise it would confront the Uchiha more openly.
So.
Rin therefore needs to make super-duper ride-or-die best friends forever with at least one (1) Uchiha. And then, on the first day at the Academy, Rin runs into an absolute dork wearing Madara’s face.
Ah. Says Rin, channelling canon!Madara. That One. That’s The One I Need For My Plan To Succeed.
Cue the Rin and Obito Bonding Moment ™ that will repeat as a flashback every time their history is at any point mentioned in the narrative.
As for Obito, well… when he was Izuna he loved his Clan but then when he was reborn he read the Clan Histories from after his death and the public history of Konoha and Obito knows his Clan are a bunch of fucking traitors who stabbed his big brother in the back and that’s why Obito is both disgusted by the Uchiha and overprotective of the Clan’s reputation because Madara still loved their Clan even after they turned on him.
I may include Obito unearthing Madara’s private journals from a hidden cubby in the Naka Shrine that only Izuna would have known to look for. Just for the sake of an extra knife and also so that Obito can find proof of Zetsu’s sabotaging his brother’s mental health.
Obito is more than a little weepy and sentimental over the fact that Madara honoured Izuna’s last request to the point Madara destroyed himself and his connection to the Clan. Obito can’t blame Madara for giving in when Hashirama forced peace to try and protect the few loyal Clan members who remained. Obito decides to protect Konoha and the Uchiha because he won’t let Madara’s last wish go unfulfilled but he’s going to become the fucking Hokage and tear out all the Senju-inflicted rot infecting his Big Brother’s Dream.
Obito is openly disdainful of the Clan Elders and the only people he even vaguely respects is the Head Family. Mostly because Mikoto is descended from Izuna’s daughter and even though Izayoi married “Tobirama’s student Kagami” she was still his baby girl and Mikoto is his great-grand daughter and he loves her because she’s his family.
Mikoto, Obito, and Shisui are all descendants of Kagami and Izayoi’s kids so they’re second-third cousins. Obito spends a lot of time pondering the overlap of self-care and I-love-my-grandbabies. It’s a fun little exercise in existentialism.
In the meantime Kakashi is still a little shit-disturber of the highest order. Kanna was taught all the fun Uchiha Clan Skills as Izuna’s wife and now Kakashi has learned all the fun Hatake Clan Skills from Sakumo and the little bastard is even more terrifying than canon. Kakashi is more gender-fluid than agender the way Kanna was though which is a fun new flavour of dysphoria-through-reincarnation that I’ll probably enjoy exploring.
Now, this does mean that Kakashi starts wearing his mask before Sakumo gets scapegoated which is a minor yet still significant change from Kakashi’s canon characterization-and-motivations.
So Kakashi blitzes their way through the Academy in like, 6 months because Kakashi has negative chill and an understandably paranoid focus on keeping their dad alive this time around. The only people Kakashi respects are the Military Police and their Dad everyone else can perish. Minato is A Constant Despair because he cannot control this sassy hell child Sakumo-sempai pls tell your son to l i s t e n t o m e.
Sakumo-sempai goes “LOL nope” because Sakumo is also a troll but is better at hiding it than Kakashi is.
So Rin and Obito are BFFs then Kakashi rips through their class like ground lightning and the sparring scene happens but the kickback of Uchiha-memories manifesting as body action means the spar is a familiar dance and so Obito is like “OMG K a n n a” and cue Obito stalking Kakashi like a schoolgirl with an obsessive crush and no concept of personal boundaries.
Enough shenanigans occur to 1. make Team Minato a cohesive and functional thing instead of a train wreck, and 2. keep Sakumo alive because Kakashi recognizes their Dad’s suicidal tendencies for what they are and so they set their ninken up as watchdogs to make sure Sakumo doesn’t do anything stupid. Because Kakashi’s biggest regret is leaving Madara and Izayoi to suffer grief without them and they refuse to let that sort of despair take away anyone they care about again.
So now Team Minato is bonding, and they are friends, and they are all slowly coming to the realization that they all remember their previous lives. So they start to share information and gradually piece together where Zetsu’s influence has been applied as they try to figure out what the Plant Demon’s endgame is.
Which means that Team Minato is 100% more paranoid about mission intelligence than they were in canon and also Rin more than ready to gut the Iwa-nin who tries to kidnap her during the Kannabi Bridge Mission so that’s fun. Team Minato has also made a point system for rooting out moles, spies, and traitors to hand over to T&I.
Sarutobi had a lovely headache when the knowledge that Sakumo’s mission had been sabotaged “accidentally” got leaked. (Kakashi had given the old man more than enough time to fix the rumour mill so it’s on Sarutobi’s own head that he didn’t take action before Kakashi did.)
Also Team Chaos Gremlins Minato manages to charm Orochimaru over to their camp via one of Obito’s rage fuelled rants about dismantling the hypocritical indoctrination of the institutionalized status quo. Specifically, the fact that the Hokage is supposed to be a public service position voted on by the people who only really has complete executive power during war time. Instead of a unilateral dictator chosen by the previous Hokage’s undisguised bias and favouritism.
Also because they’re all proof of the reincarnation cycle existing. Orochimaru is living his best life especially when Team Minato trash talks the other two Sannin.
Rin is the Most Offended by Tsunade fucking off and abandoning her responsibilities. Tsunade basically inherited all of Hashirama’s worst traits without any obvious redeeming qualities to balance it out. Because, let’s be honest, the only reason Hashirama got any level of respect is because he was Over Powered to the point of ridiculousness and because Tobirama plus Mito were in charge of his public image.
Kakashi and Obito are both hyper-loyal so having Jiraiya decide to just not come back during wartime and for Tsunade to abandon her responsibilities as a healer and Clan Head has destroyed any possible respect they might have had.
Obviously Orochimaru is the best Sannin so he’s the one they’re going to make friends with. Also they drag Orochimaru back to the Hatake Clan House to commiserate with Sakumo about being the target of a Village wide smear campaign. Which strengthens both Orochimaru and Sakumo’s spirits enough to resist their Bad Endings from canon.
All of this basically allows Team Minato to have the leverage to track down Zetsu’s creeper cave and they find Madara trapped and blinded and leashed to the Gedo Mezo, and Obito nearly has a world-destroying breakdown. Rin stands guard while Obito and Kakashi have a tearful reunion with Madara and there’s a lot of dramatic apologizing and sobbing.
They all know that they can’t leave Madara here with Zetsu, but detaching him means he’s going to die. Eventually Madara makes the decision himself to break the connection because he refuses to be used as a hostage against his little brother. So Madara tells Obito where his eyes are (which means that the Ame trio are going to get kidnapped by Team Minato eventually) plus a run-down of all the subversive plots Zetsu has had a hand in, and then Madara outright smashes the statue.
Normally nothing would be able to destroy the Gedo Mezo given that it’s basically the fossilized corpse of a god but Madara is currently part of it which means that the statue’s defences don’t realize Madara is a threat. So, statue goes boom, the cave starts to collapse, and Team Minato runs away with Madara’s body so they can give him a respectful burial.
Zetsu has approximately ten thousand aneurysms in the space of one (1) second.
From here the kickback really starts to pile up because Obito now makes a habit of dropping in on newborn Uchiha to check and see if Madara’s been reborn yet. Which means that Sasuke has a really invested older cousin hanging around to take Itachi’s place when Itachi make dumb decisions.
Rin is grumpy because basically every Clan who joined Konoha had a bunch of Senju marry into their Clan so finding Hashirama’s reincarnation is basically impossible. (And then, of course, Naruto is born and Rin faceplams 1000 times because of fucking course.)
Kakashi is laughing at both of them. Right up until they take command of Team 7 and notice a hated familiar chakra under the skin of a pink haired little girl. (All three members of Team Minato nearly die laughing because Tobirama is a pink haired little girly girl heeeeee~)
Anyway aside from all the family drama Team Minato also manages to dispose of Danzo and exposes his “plot against the Hokage”, boosting Sakumo’s public image to the point he gets named as the Fourth, fixing the stigma Orochimaru faced despite being the only loyal member of the Sannin, and basically terrorizing Konoha with Political Activism.
Zetsu probably goes a bit around the bend thanks the Team Minato destroying all his hopes and dreams plans. Also they keep putting the pressure on and exposing Zetsu’s schemes and eventually that gains enough momentum that the other Villages are taking a good hard look at shit that’s going down and hey wait w h a t t h e f u c k …
Obito eventually takes over as the Fifth Hokage and tears apart the corrupt government systems like a Tasmanian Devil going through a rotting carcass because Big Brother’s Dream Will Become A Reality B E L I E V E I T !
The End. XP

Celebrate Mother's Day with the Greatest Moms in Anime!
It’s that time of year again, folks: Mother’s Day. The time when all of us can come together to celebrate motherhood in all its forms. Mothers come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. Some have one mother. Some have two. Some are biological. Some aren’t. Who among us doesn’t have “the Mom friend” in their friend group? I once saw a woman who described herself as “a single mom with no kids” in her dating profile and by golly, folks, that one stuck with me.
It takes a lot to be a mom—and even more to be a good one. And trust me, I know a good mom when I see one. As a fan of both anime AND moms, I feel truly blessed. There are TONS of great moms out there in anime. I’ve already wished my real mom a happy Mother’s Day, so now it’s time to celebrate with my other moms: the best moms in anime.
Inko Midoriya - My Hero Academia
A favorite anime mothers list that doesn’t lead with Inko Midoriya is a list I don’t wanna read. Inko Midoriya is who anime moms should strive to be. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with this mom. Every step of the way she takes complete pride in her son Deku and his accomplishments. Even when her son faces immense danger and painful injury, she doesn’t waver in her support. At the same time, she never devalues her own feelings. She’s never shy when it comes to voicing worry and concern over her son’s safety. She chastises both him and his mentor for his recklessness when they deserve it. She reminds them that there’s more to being a hero than simple self-sacrifice, because there are people like her who need them to come home safe and sound. She’s perfect, and I want to give her a hug.
Tosen Shimogamo - The Eccentric Family
It takes a lot to be an amazing mother, but luckily for this one being human isn’t a requirement. Matriarch of the honorable Shimogamo family of Kyoto tanuki, the untimely passing of her husband made her solely responsible for raising the next generation of Shimogamo tanuki. Luckily for Yasaburo and his three brothers, their upbringing couldn’t be in better hands (er, paws). The Shimogamo family’s pride lies both in their unwavering pursuit of fun and in the close ties that bind them all together. When she’s not dressing up like a prince and dominating the local billiards clubs, Tosen comforts and guides her children with the unconditional love only the best of mothers can provide.
Lisa Lisa - JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure
Some moms show their love and dedication by coming home from a long, stressful day at work and still taking you to soccer practice. Some moms show their love by throwing you into a big, oily pit and telling you to climb out or die. Lisa Lisa is the latter. While not a Joestar by birth, their fates became intertwined when she was saved from a boat full of rampaging vampires by Erina Joestar as a baby. She later married into the Joestar family, mothered a son, and ultimately suffered the same fate as Erina—her husband was killed by a vampire. Having learned Hamon from her adopted father, she got her revenge on the vampire who widowed her and gave up her son to go into hiding. She became a master Hamon user, and years later her son Joseph would unknowingly seek out his own mother to teach him. Though her methods might seem harsh, her training gave him the tools necessary to once and for all defeat the Pillar Men menace together. Finally reunited, they could be the family they had always wished to be. Smart, beautiful, and tough to boot, on a scale of one to ten this mom is a fifty.
Sakura Uchiha - BORUTO: NARUTO NEXT GENERATIONS
Sakura has a special place in the hearts of many anime fans as one of the only mothers they got to watch grow up and become a mother in front of their very eyes. Though a young girl at the onset of Naruto many years ago, Sakura has since grown into a fine mother raising her own shinobi daughter in the ongoing series BORUTO: NARUTO NEXT GENERATIONS. With her husband Sasuke largely absent on secret missions, Sakura is tasked with being one of the villages best fighters, medical practitioners, and sole caretaker for her daughter. She does it well though, assuaging her daughter’s anxieties through her unshakeable trust in Sasuke and doing whatever it takes to defend her daughter in times of need. She’s living proof that shinobi moms can truly have it all.
Izumi Curtis - Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
It might seem a bit cruel or ironic to put Izumi—a woman whose greatest weakness was caused by her inability to have children—she is without a doubt the greatest maternal figure in the Elric brothers’ lives. Like the Elric brothers, she had dabbled in human transmutation following the death of her baby in childbirth. As a result, she lost several internal organs and the inability to ever have children. She later took in and trained the Elric brothers, who had undergone a similar ordeal after the death of their mother. Though a tough-as-nails fighter and trainer, Izumi’s naturally caring nature helped nurture the Elric brothers into two of the best Alchemists and fighters in the nation. She’s as much a fantastic mother as any others in this list.
Kobayashi - Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid
Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid is an anime all about a bunch of misfits coming together and forming their own little family in Tokyo, and Kobayashi happens to be everyone’s favorite tired, working-class stepmom. Having already had her loner lifestyle thrown out of whack when a maid who is also a dragon shows up on her doorstep, her life further complicates when a young dragon named Kanna inserts herself into Kobayashi’s life. Despite being hundreds of years older than Kobayashi, Kanna is still very much a child as dragons go, and begins seeing Kobayashi as a mother.
The show is full of cute scenes between the two, and one of my favorite episodes in the series spells out their mother-daughter dynamic in pretty explicit terms. A harsh crunch period at work means Kobayashi can’t come to the sports festival at Kanna’s school. Kanna gets upset, and Kobayashi struggles to reconcile the way Kanna sees her with the off-hand approach her own parents took raising her. It’s an incredibly touching episode, and watching Kobayashi open up her heart a little more to her newfound daughter solidifies her as one of the best moms a tiny anime dragon girl could ask for.
Bulma, Chichi, and Android 18 - Dragon Ball Super
So far I’ve tried to stick to one mom per show, but when it came time to choose which Dragon Ball mom was best, I couldn’t bring myself to do it. They’re all great. As is the tragic fate of great moms everywhere, they never get the credit they deserve. Take Bulma, for example. She took a genocidal villain hellbent on destroying the earth and turned him into a family man. Not to mention the fact she—the smartest person in the world—invented time travel to save not one but TWO timelines from destruction. Speaking of which, without Android 18, Universe 7 would never have been able to win Zen-oh’s tournament and multiple universes would’ve been annihilated.
Finally, there’s Chichi, who receives the brunt of maternal disrespect. Sure, she nags her husband and kids, but put yourself in her shoes! All she wants is a good life for her family, yet she can only watch as they put themselves in harms way time after time. How many times has she seen her husband die? Too many! Also, let’s be real here, Goku doesn’t know what a freaking kiss is. That woman has had to endure decades married to an absolute beefcake who won’t even kiss her. Who among us wouldn’t have a little pent up frustration after that?
Of course, these are just a few of all the wonderful moms that the we’ve been blessed to meet while watching anime. I know I’ll be thinking of each and every one of them, and I hope you will be too. So take the time today to wish your local mom a happy Mother’s Day, then kick back and watch some anime together.
Which anime mom would you most like to wish a happy Mother’s Day? Let us know in the comments below!
