Ladybug's Red Velvet Cake

It was February again, and everyone wanted Ladybug's red velvet cake that was sold at the Dupain-Cheng Bakery.

Because everyone in Paris adored Ladybug, and Marinette was just the baker's daughter.

This entire holiday reminded her of when she found out that Adrien had a crush on Ladybug and she dropped Adrien so quickly.

And then there was Luka, her closest friend, who always asked her how she was doing and praised her art projects in between delivering all those heart-shaped red velvet cakes.

Marinette guessed Luka adored Ladybug as well.

Just when the bakery was about to close, Marinette's father happily gave Luka a red velvet cake to take home to his family and a slice to eat after all the hard work.

"Thank you, sir," Luka said.

"No problem, my boy!" Tom said as he almost knocked Luka over while patting him on the back.

Luka sat down next to Marinette, and Marinette raised her eyebrow over the slice of red velvet cake. Instead of eating, Luka once again praised Marinette for making paper hearts. Luka being enthusiastic over paper hearts made Marinette swoon on the inside. Still, all this red velvet cake was starting to annoy her. But still…

"Do you like the cake Luka?" Marinette asked.

Luka smiled and didn't bother picking up his fork. Then he moved closer to Marinette to whisper. "I kind of lost my appetite…"

"Hm?" Marinette said.

"Oh, but my family put a lot of love in it as usual," Marinette whispered back. "And Ladybug would love for you to enjoy it."

"Maybe…" Luka said as he looked away.

While Marinette returned to her paper hearts, Luka took a tiny piece of cake with his fork and ate it. He was silent for a moment, and then he saw Marinette looking right at him, and he gave her a reassuring smile.

"It's sweet…" He said.

But soon Luka had to run straight home, and he left the cake forgotten. Marinette hid the cake with her hands so her father wouldn't get upset. She picked up Luka's fork and ate the red velvet cake. Marinette pondered for a moment.

Marinette didn't have the guts to ask Luka on a date, but she could make him something he could truly enjoy.

Or she could fail miserably while trying.

She spent sleepless nights perfecting Luka's special cake, which concerned her parents. And on Valentine's Day, an Akuma had to come in and ruin everything for everyone. This Akuma was forcing people together at gunpoint, and it left Ladybug feeling more of a dejected hero than an accomplished one.

She would've headed to the top of the Eiffel Tower and yelled that she hated Valentine's Day, but because of Luka, she couldn't bring herself to.

Luka was the one she loved the most, on a deeper level than she had ever loved anyone.

Maybe she was in love with him. She was still trying to figure that out. But the day was saved again, and now she could rest.

The problem was that Valentine's Day was almost over, and she needed to meet up with Luka.

… The only way she could make a speedy delivery to deliver the cake to Luka, was as Ladybug.

But Ladybug would do it and swiftly swung through Paris with the cake box in hand. Ladybug managed to land on top of The Liberty gracefully; she saw Luka on the main deck looking absolutely in the zone as he played the guitar under the full moon.

Luka left his mother and Juleka to eat their delicious cake from the Dupain-Cheng Bakery as he tried to write a new romantic song. But he stopped playing when he heard someone fall on deck, and when Luka opened his eyes he saw Ladybug looking a bit flustered and holding a cake box.

Luka was certainly taken aback.

"Ladybug?" Luka cried.

Luka tried not to be too loud as Ladybug winced. Then, there was a silence as the wind gently blew. Ladybug shyly walked over to Luka and presented him with the box.

"This is for you…Happy Valentine's Day Luka."

"Ladybug…" Luka said breathlessly.

But then he smiled warmly as he accepted the cake.

"Thank you so much," he said softly.

Ladybug smiled sheepishly as Luka opened the box, and she could've sworn his eyes lit up when he saw the heart-shaped blue velvet cake.

"Ladybug, this is…"

Before saying anything else, Luka set the cake down and took a few pictures with his phone, and Ladybug sighed in relief.

"I know you probably already ate plenty of red velvet cake but I…" Ladybug felt her words get mixed up in her mouth.

When Luka was done taking photos, he smiled at her. "What is it Ladybug?"

"I…" Ladybug paused as she felt herself sweat. She couldn't just tell him Marinette sent her because that would make Marinette look like a lazy bum, and it might give Luka the idea that Ladybug and Marinette are connected. Ladybug ended up blushing and looking down in shame.

"I just had to make sure you got that cake Luka…"

There was a silence, and even if she wasn't Marinette right now, Luka didn't question it further and took a few steps closer to Ladybug and placed his hand under her chin to lift her face up. Luka always had the most reassuring smile. Ladybug was blushing redder than a tomato as she stepped back and composed herself. Of course, Luka didn't take it personally when Ladybug pulled away. This was just so complicated that she meant to give Luka this cake as Marinette, and now she felt like an idiot for giving it to him as Ladybug.

"Actually, I didn't eat much red velvet cake…" Luka said.

"Huh?" Ladybug cried. "You didn't?"

Luka smiled as he looked back at the blue velvet cake.

"But why?" Ladybug asked.

Luka chuckled. "Because I think you are an amazing girl, Ladybug, but I am not like one of those fanboys."

Ladybug turned, and Luka blushed.

"Sorry, I am not making much sense," Luka said.

"No!" Ladybug yelped. She was so energized that she nearly made The Liberty shake, but then she blushed and made sure to quiet herself. "What you said was wonderful…"

Then Luka turned to the stars. "I mean, you're an amazing friend, but there is another girl who feels like she isn't good enough, like she isn't beautiful enough, but that isn't true at all. She is the most beautiful and sincere melody in the world."

Ladybug giggled. "I understand. She sounds extraordinary and important to you."

Ladybug ran her hand through her hair. "I guess I lucked out there, I mean–" She placed her hand over her lips.

Luka didn't seem bothered though. Instead, he walked up to Ladybug with his phone in hand.

"Can we at least take a picture together?" Luka asked.

Ladybug smiled. "Of course!"

Wasting no time, Luka wrapped his arm around Ladybug's tiny frame, and they both smiled for a selfie with the moon right above them. Luka took a moment to look at the captured moment between them, and Ladybug remembered something.

"Don't forget to eat that yummy cake Luka!"

Luka blinked and put his phone in his pocket. "Of course!"

Ladybug cursed herself for not bringing a fork. Still, Luka grabbed the box and unapologetically broke a piece to shove it in his mouth. Moaning multiple times in pleasure as he chewed, Ladybug thanked her lucky stars that everything was a success, all things considered.

But Ladybug couldn't help but wipe the frosting off his lip with her hand and lick the frosting off. Then Ladybug gasped when she realized how bold she was being.

Luka chuckled, but then he walked over to Ladybug and removed some frosting on her cheek with his finger. "Thank you so much Ladybug."

"Oh, anything for you Luka," Ladybug blushed.

The two of them couldn't help but look into each other's eyes until Ladybug's earrings beeped, and she placed her hands over her ears. "Sorry! I got to go!"

"I know, just get back safely," Luka said.

"But Ladybug…"

Ladybug stood on the edge of The Liberty but turned to face Luka again. She smiled brightly against the stars and moon.

"Don't worry, you'll see me again Luka!"

And Ladybug threw her yo-yo and swung away into the night. Luka ran to the edge of the boat and sighed dreamily.

"I know you will come back, Marinette."

Chapter Six: That Saturday was for Distractions

Alya and Nino almost walked Luka home. Actually, Alya almost walked him home – Nino was a little put out that his date night had been hijacked by Luka’s family drama. Luka couldn’t even blame him for that: he was kind of put out that his family drama had hijacked Nino’s date night, too, even if he was grateful for Nino and Alya’s moral support. And as touched as he was by his friends’ concern, what he needed more than anything after his…performance was to be alone. He assured Alya that he’d be fine: he was an adult and fully capable of seeing himself home, even if he was emotionally compromised. When Alya and Nino had shared a look at that, he had just rolled his eyes and shoved his hands in his pockets.

He knew what they were really worried about. What anyone in Hawkmoth, Paris would be worried about, even if they weren’t part-time holders of a Miraculous.

viperinette is so special to me like hello i just think that instead of all those fics of marichat’s friendship/relationship being exposed we should have some of viperinette as well unlike chat viperion does know mari is lb and he would take her opinions so seriously (puts her judgement over his own actually bc she is the more experienced hero) and i can just imagine viperion and chat thinking they should go w one route but being slightly unsure bc lb isnt there and mari pipes up with a different suggestion and viperion is like yes. senpai i defer to u always

and i know im a lovesquare/cn/adrien disliker but i genuinely do think chat respects mari canonically (i’m not even talking abt s5. literally from evillustrator) ive never doubted that he does genuinely think she is smart and stuff BUT he also has a bit more of the ‘i’m a superhero leave everything to me i need to protect you’ mindset. which isn’t one of the reasons i dislike him because genuinely that is fair enough or at least close enough to fair that i don’t mind it coming from a 14 year old groomed into to being a superhero but you have to admit that viperion/luka is significantly more likely to take mari seriously and even before viperion finds out abt maribug i’m sure he would listen to her opinion. his dad trusts marinette to make decisions too hehe all the guitar boys worship mari
