And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart.
(Luke 18:1, ESV)

by Pastor Jack Wellman | When Jesus gave the Parable of the Persistent Widow, He wanted to tell His listening audience that they ought to never give up just because they haven’t received an answer yet. He told them about a widow’s persistence in petitioning an unjust judge for help and how time and again he refused to help her, but it was because of her persistence that...

“Then Jesus told them a parable about their need to pray always and not to lose heart. He said, ‘In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor had respect for people. In that city there was a widow who kept coming to him and saying, “Grant me justice against my opponent.”
For a while he refused; but later he said to himself, “Though I have no fear of God and no respect for anyone, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will grant her justice, so that she may not wear me out by continually coming.” ’
And the Lord said, ‘Listen to what the unjust judge says.’ ”

Today's Word With Joel and Victoria Osteen - It's Still Going To Happen
Today’s Scripture Luke 18:1, TLB One day Jesus told his disciples a story to illustrate their need for constant prayer and to show them that they must keep praying until the answer comes. Today’s Word We all have things that we’re praying and believing for, but perhaps the medical report hasn’t improved, we didn’t get the promotion, someone did us wrong, or the downturn set us back. Now we…

“Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” —Matthew 19:14 (NIV)
“At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” He called a little child and set him before them, and said, “I assure you and most solemnly say to you, unless you repent [that is, change your inner self—your old way of thinking, live changed lives] and become like children [trusting, humble, and forgiving], you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Whoever receives and welcomes one child like this in My name receives Me; but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble and sin [by leading him away from My teaching], it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone [as large as one turned by a donkey] hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea. —Matthew 18:1-6 (AMP)
“I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. —Luke 10:19 (NIV)

And a propos lists, and because tumblr is for oversharing: the biggest list in my life right now is the Prayer List. I keep it in my head, but I might have to write it down soon. Even with constant repetition, grouping, association and other memory tricks, it's getting too long to remember. I add people much more often than I remove them.
Every evening, I get down on my knees, say the Lord's Prayer, and then go through the list. Sometimes things get better. Most of the time, nothing happens. I keep at it anyway. God literally told us to keep bugging him, so there!

"CONFRONTING THE ENEMY'S TACTICS!"
Psalm 144:1, “Blessed be the Lord, my Rock and my keen and firm Strength, Who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight” (AMPC) The main tactic of the enemy is deception. “Deception” is defined as, “the act of causing someone to accept as true or valid what is false or invalid; to trick; to cheat; to defraud; to be dishonest.” And that’s exactly who the enemy is, a deceiver, liar and the…

The Parable of the Persistent Widow
Tumblr media
1 And he spake also a simile to them, that it behoveth [us] always to pray, and not to faint,
2 saying, `A certain judge was in a certain city -- God he is not fearing, and man he is not regarding --
3 and a widow was in that city, and she was coming unto him, saying, Do me justice on my opponent,
4 and he would not for a time, but after these things he said in himself, Even if God I do not fear, and man do not regard,
5 yet because this widow doth give me trouble, I will do her justice, lest, perpetually coming, she may plague me.'
6 And the Lord said, `Hear ye what the unrighteous judge saith:
7 and shall not God execute the justice to His choice ones, who are crying unto Him day and night -- bearing long in regard to them?
8 I say to you, that He will execute the justice to them quickly; but the Son of Man having come, shall he find the faith upon the earth?'
The Pharisee and the Tax Collector
9 And he spake also unto certain who have been trusting in themselves that they were righteous, and have been despising the rest, this simile:
10 `Two men went up to the temple to pray, the one a Pharisee, and the other a tax-gatherer;
11 the Pharisee having stood by himself, thus prayed: God, I thank Thee that I am not as the rest of men, rapacious, unrighteous, adulterers, or even as this tax-gatherer;
12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all things -- as many as I possess.
13 `And the tax-gatherer, having stood afar off, would not even the eyes lift up to the heaven, but was smiting on his breast, saying, God be propitious to me -- the sinner!
14 I say to you, this one went down declared righteous, to his house, rather than that one: for every one who is exalting himself shall be humbled, and he who is humbling himself shall be exalted.'
Let the Children Come to Me
15 And they were bringing near also the babes, that he may touch them, and the disciples having seen did rebuke them,
16 and Jesus having called them near, said, `Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not, for of such is the reign of God;
17 verily I say to you, Whoever may not receive the reign of God as a little child, may not enter into it.' — Luke 18:1-17 | Young's Literal Translation (YLT) Young's Literal Translation of the Holy Bible is in the public domain.
