huge part of me wishes they'd cast some young, baby-faced, pretty-boy (like Luke Eisner, maybe) instead of bringing back Orlando Bloom for Legolas in The Hobbit.

Not 'cause I think he'd have done a better job, but the trend of big-budget films to blow their VFX budget on a congratulatory circle-jerk for their own technological "achievements" needs to die. CGI Carrie Fisher, Young!Legolas, Grand Moff Tarkin, etc. will never look as good 5 years down the line. They don't even look as good as fucking Gollum and he's been around since, what, 2002?

Compare this with the approach taken by Mad Max and Doctor Sleep (to name a few): tasteful, thoughtful, successful.

"Oh but how could they follow up Orlando Bloom when he's still around?" …yeah? Well, they managed to follow up both Shelley Duvall and Jack Fucking Nicholson, so it sure as shit is possible.

They should've reallocated those dollars (and that computing power, lmao) to the trash-heap that was gold!Smaug or the actual Battle of the Five Armies (it's honestly kind of a crime some of those ragdoll-corpse sequences made it into production… shit looks like it's being rendered in Morrowind using a potato instead of a graphics card) instead of Orlando Bloom's face. Instead, let him thrive in his burgeoning silver fox era as Bard's dashingly handsome cousin, dammit.
