you were luke’s, even if the guy infront of you didn’t know it. luke knew it, you knew it, and that’s all that mattered. luke definitely knew it, by the amount of times he’d kissed you all over, hands wandering—
besides the point.
but luke had composure, something he prided himself on. he was able to keep a pokerface when need be. and he really did need it. this boy was pushing his buttons, and seemingly trying to undo yours.
luke watched on for a bit, trying his hardest to keep up the smile on his face that everyone knew. thankfully, he didn’t need to step in this time. as annoying percy’s protectiveness over you waynhave been, it had its perks. such as percy being annoyed by the same things as luke.
“hey y/n, i’m feeling kind of tired. you mind walking me back to our cabin?” percy stood behind you as you turned his way, laughter from behind you caused a scowl to come over your face. “what’re you laughing at?” the boy crossed his arms, “the fact that this kid can’t walk alone.” percy’s fist was itching to connect with this guys face, but he knew you could handle it.
“this kid, is my brother. and if you have something else to say you sure as hell better be ready for someone to talk back.” you were eye to eye now, and you could see him practically shrink back into himself. “that’s what i thought.” the campers rung out in ‘oohs’ as you turned to guide percy away.
what you didnt anticipate was for him to fight back. “the hell do you think you’re doing?” his fingers clung onto your wrist, and that was more than enough for luke to punch him square in the jaw. but that wasn’t enough, with each leg over the boys waist he continued to raise his fist, over and over.
until eventually you managed to pry him off of the boy. but the damage was done, he was currently cradling his wrists and crying out, “he broke it!”
“you idiot. come on.” percy was in front of the two of you, deciding to say out of the way as you reprimanded him, “and again, i can handle myself just fine!”
“is it so wrong of me to want to protect you?” luke shouted as the two of you stopped in your tracks. “you’re my— best friend.” thankfully your back was facing percy, the smile on your face was wide. “i know, and i thank you for wanting to protect me. but i can fight my own battles luke. don’t do it again.” percy furrowed his eyebrows, “so can i.” you laughed, “no you can’t percy.”
once you’d settled percy in you walked luke to his empty cabin. luke’s smugness was irking you, “why are you so happy?” luke shrugged, “hurt him good, why wouldn’t it be happy?” you shoved him inside, your head was hurting from the whole encounter. “happy? you’re happy for hurting someone?” luke’s hands rested on either cheek, his eyes seemed darker than usual, “he hurt you, and i can’t let that happen.” you shook your head.
“seriously, what the hell was that?” you were so close to choking him, and not in a fun way. “what was what? me defending you? that guys hands were all over you, i broke them, he won’t be using them again. problem solved.” you walked him over to his bed before pushing him down. luke’s own hands were bruised, the moonlight seemed to dance over them, dried blood and shallow cuts. you inspected them with care, before grabbing a first aid kit.
“i’m not incompetent yknow? i can handle myself just fine. you undermined me out there, im a camp counsellor, i’m a leader. you made me look like i need saving!” he exhaled, whilst you wiped over his knuckles with wipes before walking away to throw the rubbish out. “i didn’t mean to, i just— i saw him. and his hands on you and i couldn’t just sit back.” you were situated between his legs, his hands came up to rest on your hips.
your hand tangled in his hair, thumb rubbing up and down as he rested his head against your stomach. “i know, i know. it’s sweet, that you want to protect me but you can’t treat me like a kid. i’m your—.” the silence between the two of you was comforting, never awkward.
“say it.” his voice was soft and sweet, almost desperate, he looked up at you and your own heart was threatening to leap out of your chest. just one look from luke was more than enough to send your head spiralling. “i’m your girlfriend, luke. and you’re my—.”
“boyfriend, your loving, loyal, extremely hot and amazing swordsmen of a boyfriend. and i’m pretty good in other areas too.” you hid your head in your hands, the heat in your cheeks was annoying you, “nah, i wanna see you.”
he managed to lift you up, despite your squeals of protest, and lay down with you on the bed, “i’ll protect you any day, anytime.” luke peppered your face with kisses as you begged him to stop, “never.”
you groaned, “god you’re cheesy luke!”
“only for you.”

“Hey,” He mumbled as you came up next to him, giving him a kiss. Percy furrowed his eyebrows at that, having not been introduced to you yet. He turned back to the boy and you now looked at him, curious.
“Oh, this is Percy. Percy this is my girlfriend, y/n.”
“Nice to meet you.” He shook your hand, you shook it with a smile.
“You too. What are you doing here? Thought you had classes.” You said, turning your attention back to Luke.
“I did, but Chiron replaced me with some other kid so i could show Percy around. What about you?”
“I am free for the rest of the day, and i just wanted to see you.”
“You mind if she tags along?” He asked Percy. Percy just shrugged. “I dont care.”
You followed the two, through the woods and to the lake.
Percy jumped when he heard a low growl, it sounded nearby, but when he whipped around he didn’t see anything.
“Did you guys… hear that?”
“It’s probably Cassiopeia.” You said, turning around and looking beyond the woods, then back to the lake.
Percy gave Luke a confused look, Luke chuckled.
“Cassiopeia is her hellhounds name. She’s cute.”
“Hell hound?”
“Ah, she’s just a big dog, basically. A bit scary to everyone else but she’s a softie.”
“She doesn’t take kindly to strangers, though.” You said, Luke tilted his head to the side.
“She likes me.”
“For some reason.” You grumbled, a small smile on your face. He rolled his eyes and held his hand over his heart.
“Ouch. I’m hurt.”
“You wanna meet her?” You asked, turning around to look at Percy now.
“Thought she didn’t take kindly to strangers.”
“Don’t worry. She doesn’t bite. Unless you’re Dionysus.” You sent the boy a wink, he smiled.
Luke just smiled at the memory.
“Can’t believe he even lets you have it after that.” He shook his head to himself.
“I know.”
“Why does he let you have it?” Percy asked.
“It’s not mines. It was my dad’s, but he had nowhere to keep the girl. She was my childhood pet, he basically had to threaten them for her to stay.” You chuckled.
He nodded. “If you don’t mind me asking, who is your dad?”
“Hades.” You shrugged. He seemed shocked at your answer and was about to say something when Luke interrupted him with a whistle.
“Cassie.” He said, Percy watched as the large hellhound came walking closer. She nuzzled up to you first, then Luke began to pet her with a smile on his face. She licked you and him as you both groaned.
“Gross. Now I’m gonna go to camp smelling like hell hound.” You huffed, but still smiling as you stepped back.
Soon, Cassie turned her attention to Percy and looked at him with interest. He was terrified, confused, frozen in his spot, but he was intrigued.
You motioned for him to pet her, he hesitantly held a hand out, and slowly began to put her. The dog quickly warmed up to him, seemingly liking the boy.
“She likes you.” You said with a smile as you saw the interaction, Percy’s eyes were wide and he was smiling as well.
“She’s amazing.” Percy said as you bid goodbye to her and began to walk away. You nodded in agreement and Luke laughed.
“Isn’t she? I think Luke gets jealous of her sometimes.”
“I don’t.” Luke said quickly, defending himself.
“Mhmm. You keep telling yourself that.”

SUMMARY: When Luke's jealousy gets out of hand.
WARNINGS: Toxic Relationship.
--
“We’re having a party tonight. You should come.” the blonde-haired boy walked with you as you collected your breakfast in a tray.
“I don’t know, Sam, maybe.” you keep your answer short, opting not to indulge into the conversation.
Luke’s stare feels obvious despite the physical distance between you, your boyfriend already seated at a table.
“C’mon, you never really come by anymore, not ever since you got with Luke. I know Clarisse will be thrilled to see you again.” he looked at you with hopeful eyes and you felt bad, knowing you’re letting all of your friends down - hanging out with them less and less.
“Luke can come too. And Chris, if he wants to.”
You hesitated for a moment before nodding your head. You seriously doubted Luke would want to go. Sam seemed satisfied enough and after giving you the time and place, he left.
Stress got trapped in your throat when you walked to the table, taking a seat.
“Who was that guy?” Luke asked you nonchalantly, his eyes following Sam as he walked away.
“Luke, you know him. He’s my friend.”
“That’s not what I asked.”
You sighed, fully aware of the interrogation he’s about to put you through. “Ares’ kid. One of Clarisse’s brothers.”
“What did he want?”
“Luke…”
“What? I’m just asking what he wanted.” he replies back, his eyes snapping at you with annoyance. “Now I can’t even ask what a strange guy had to say to my girlfriend?”
You stabbed the food in your plate, feeling your eyes becoming watery.
“He invited us to a party tonight.”
The scoff you received from Luke was loud enough to draw a few heads in your direction and you quickly captured a few slices of bacon, stuffing them in your mouth.
“Us? The way he was talking, it seems like he wanted to invite you. Since you’re his friend, right?” his voice had an edge to it, as if daring you to contradict but you stubbornly kept your attention to your food.
If you looked at him - at the angry frown he most certainly had on - you’d end up crying in front of everyone.
“Luke, please…” you supplicated, “Just let it go, please. I’m not going anyways, okay?”
He looked at you for a long moment, his brown eyes piercing through your soul as he took notice of the tears that were shining in your eyes. His gaze softened, hand reaching for yours.
“Okay.” he said, bringing your hand to his lips, kissing the back of it. “I’m sorry.”
Tumblr media
You should’ve known that Luke’s jealous streak would never be able to just let something go.
Any hopes of forgetting the situation were shattered when in the next day a fight broke loose at the camp. And of course, Luke was at the epicenter.
You weren’t around but your siblings told how hard Luke punched Sam, which resulted in a broken nose and bloody mess.
And of course that defending your friend resulted in another argument between you and Luke.
“Luke, you’re overreacting.” you pleaded, wanting nothing more than tug on your hair with the despair you were feeling.
“No, you’re being naive. You’re not seeing it the way I see it.”
“I just- I don’t get why you had to do this, Luke!”
“He did this to himself.” he retorted, his hand clenching with anger. “He talked about you, you know? How you deserve someone better.”
Your throat went dry as you gulped. Luke took a step towards you, murderous anger plastered in his face.
“You say he’s just a friend, but I know he wants more than that.” he spited the words, inching closer to you. “He wants to take my place. To be the one you love. But I’m not gonna let that happen, okay?”
His words dimmed into a hushed whisper as he pressed his forehead against yours, his ragged breaths contrasting with your lack of breathing as you held your breath.
“Luke…”
“I won’t let you go. We’re meant to be together, I know it.” he pressed a light kiss on your hairline, ignoring the single tear that escaped your eye.
“And if I have to kill whoever gets in our way, then so be it.”

Hi! Could you do a Luke Hughes x reader where the reader still goes to UMich while Luke is in Jersey w/ Jack and she speculates he’s cheating on her? Angst with a happy ending, preferably? Thank you!

paring : Luke Hughes x fem!reader
summary : after seeing Luke on Jack’s private story, his girlfriend begins speculating that he’s doing more than just playing hockey
warning(s) : angst ! but w a happy ending. mentions of cheating. reader still goes to Umich
author’s note : oooh this is gonna be juicy
༺═──────────────═༻
She trusts Luke. She swear she does, but she can’t help but feel the little pull at her heart when she watches him in the background of Jack’s private story.
A bunch of their mutual Michigan friends started to text her while she was doing homework. Even fans on social media have been posting about it and tagging her in posts.
She was confused, then she opened Snapchat to see what they were talking about.
In one video, Jack’s drunk and dancing to some song that she doesn’t know. In the background, she sees her boyfriend sitting at a booth with some blonde at his side. He isn’t touching her, but she’s sitting too close to him.
In another video, Luke’s in the background dancing with that same girl. She notices the smile on Luke’s face when he faces the camera.
It brings tears to her eyes as she jumps to an immediate conclusion. She’s been right every time so far.
She truly thought he was different than the other hockey players she dated. They all cheated on her too, and Luke promised her over and over again that he would never do that to her.
Well, here he is. Probably cheating on her and Jack is posting it all over his private Snap story for all their mutual friends to see. It’s embarrassing for her.
It took months for Luke to break down the wall she built around her heart. They met halfway through their freshman year at Michigan. It wasn’t until the beginning of their sophomore year that they started dating.
With her sadness turning into anger and tears rolling down her hot face, she calls Luke. It keeps ringing. And ringing. So she calls one more time.
And gets his voicemail.
“Luke Warren Hughes, you have five minutes to call me back or you’re going to end up without a girlfriend,” she says into the phone. “I mean it. And you better have a damn good reason you’re dancing with some random blonde girl on Jack’s Snapchat.” Then she hits the end button and puts the phone on her desk with the screen up.
A minute passes and her phone doesn’t ring. She doesn’t get a text.
Two minutes pass and her fingers are itching to call him again. She wants to stay true to her word because if Luke has a good explanation as to why he’s with some blonde then he’ll call her back.
Four minutes pass from the call. She drafts a text to Jack that she’s going to send in a minute if her phone doesn’t ring.
‘ tell luke i’m going to send him his things that i have in my apartment and that i want mine back. i’m done. ’
After five minutes pass, she sends the text.
It’s not the first time that this has happened, and it’s the last. Not only is she done with Luke, she’s done with any hockey boys in general. Too many times has she gotten her heart broken because the relationship had to go long distance. Too many times has she had too much trust.
Two minutes after she sents Jack the text, her phone rings. Jack is calling her.
“I really don’t feel like explaining why-”
“What do you mean you’re done?” Luke interrupts before she can finish her sentence. “What did I do?”
Her jaw drops. “You can’t be serious, Luke,” she replies. “I saw you in the background of Jack’s snaps getting too comfortable with a blonde girl. Sitting with her and a smile on your face while dancing with her? You told me you wouldn’t break my heart.”
“That’s not- baby, she’s a friend,” Luke tries to defend. “Jack’s friend if I’m being honest. He was busy hanging out with Nico and Dawson so she came to sit with me. She dragged me out onto the dance floor and told me to dance. I told her I had a girlfriend and she still dragged me to the dance floor and got close to me. I didn’t try to do anything with her because I don’t want to.”
Tears sting her eyes. “I gave you a chance to explain yourself,” she tells him. “I called you twice before I texted Jack. It took me texting Jack before you called me from his phone. You told me you’d never break my heart but you did. I don’t trust you, Luke. I’ve been told that same story over and over again.”
Luke stays silent. She has to dry her own tears that have rolled down her cheeks. She has to cover her mouth so she doesn’t let out a sob that he hears.
She’s standing her ground. She’s protecting her heart. The 604 miles between them should be enough space and make it easier to move on.
“(Y/N), I would never cheat on you,” Luke tells her. She can hear the sincerity in his voice but she still doesn’t believe him.
“Luke, I can’t right now,” she softly says. She’s pretty sure he can’t even hear her because of how loud it is in the bar or wherever they are. “I’m sorry.”
Then she hangs up. She shuts her phone off and crawls into bed, completely forgetting about her homework. All she wants to do right now is wallow.
His words are just words. She knows what she saw. Right now, nothing that Luke can say to her will change her mind about being done.

Tumblr media
✧・゚: *✧・゚:*
It’s nearly two in the afternoon when she hears a knock on her off-campus apartment door. She hasn’t gotten up out of bed in nearly forty-eight hours except to use the bathroom. Her phone hasn’t been turned on since her talk with Luke the other day.
Someone is probably coming to check on her since she has fallen off the face of the Earth for the moment. That is the only reason why she drags herself out of bed to go answer the door.
When she swings open the door, it’s the last person she expects to be on her doorstep. He actually supposed to be in California right now. They have a game to play in a few hours in Anaheim.
Luke holds a single rose out for her and a little basket full of snacks is in his other hand. “I was going to get a whole bouquet for you but I forgot to grab one at the store,” he tells her. “If anyone asks, I did not pull this from the bed by the front door of the building.”
“What are you doing here?” she asks. “You shouldn’t be here.”
“I wanted to talk,” he replies. “You haven’t been replying to any of my texts or answering my calls. I told Lindy that I needed a few personal days and he told me that I can come back when I’m ready to. I didn’t want you to keep thinking that I was cheating on you or hurting you. That was never my intention.”
She rolls her eyes and walks into the apartment. Luke is quick to follow her and shut the door behind her. “You can say what you have to say then you can get on a flight to Anaheim to play tonight,” she tells him as she sits on the couch in the living room.
He sets the basket of snacks on the coffee table in front of her and sets the rose next to it. Luke pulls out his phone and taps on it for a second. She’s about to say something when he shows her his screen.
It’s a picture of the blonde girl that was with Luke, but she’s all cuddled up with Jack. Jack looks happy and is looking at her like she’s the only person in the world. It was taken at the beginning of the night because she can tell that there is something behind Jack’s eyes.
“It’s Jack’s ‘friend’,” Luke assures her. “They’re together but aren’t telling people they’re together but they make it obvious that they are. The reason she was hanging out with me for a little bit was because she wanted to know how to tell Jack that she’s ready to publicly be together.”
She looks up at Luke behind the phone. “You couldn’t answer your phone and just tell me that?” she asks.
“I left it in the car,” he tells her. He taps on the screen a few more times and holds up a screenshot of his and Jack’s locations. They weren’t together, and it looks like Luke was right outside the building.
It’s all making sense to her. Her and her trust issues were wrong this time.
A pout forms on her lips at the same time tears form in her eyes. “You really weren’t lying to me,” she mumbles. Her voice is incredibly shaky.
“I told you that I would never break your heart,” Luke tells her. “Not intentionally. I definitely wouldn’t cheat on you. I know you’re past with that and no matter how upset I am with you, I wouldn’t resort to that. Unlike everyone else you’ve been with, I’m more willing to communicate. Hell, I took time away from the team to come make sure we were okay.”
One of the tears rolls down her cheeks and Luke uses the back of his pointer finger to wipe it away. She leans into his touch and looks at him. “I’m sorry, Luke,” she says. It comes out as more of a sob than actual words.
He moves closer to her and throws an arm over her shoulders. She curls up against him and Luke kisses the top of her head. “It’s okay,” he assures her. “I know how you think so I gave you a little bit then came to talk to you. Just needed you to think with your head and not your past.”
She frowns and throws her legs over his lap. Luke holds her close.
“Do you want to go to Anaheim to play?” she asks as she looks up at him. “There’s enough time for you to make it for warmups.”
Luke shakes his head. “I think I want to spend a few days with you,” he replies. “I’m pretty sure they can handle a couple of games without me. I need a handful of days off where I don’t think about hockey. I haven’t been playing the best so a break sounds nice.”
“It’s your first season,” she tells him as she runs her fingers through his curls. “There is so much pressure on you because of your last name. You’re most likely feeling it without realizing it.”
He looks at his girlfriend. “I know,” he sighs. “Just give me a few days and I’ll head back to Jersey to play when they get back from the California trip.”
She leans forward and presses a long kiss to his cheek. “I love you,” she tells him. “I think you’ll grow into your NHL skates. You’ll have an insane season next season, or even for the last 20 something games of the season.”
“I love you too,” Luke replies. “Sorry I made you think I was cheating on you.”
“Got you to come see me so I guess I forgive you,” she teases.
It’s been a few weeks since Luke came to see her. They watched the All Star game together in the apartment. That was the last time they saw each other.
Luke gets comfortable on the couch. “Can we take a nap since we’re okay?” he asks. “I’m exhausted.”
“Only if we move to the bed because you are too big to share a couch with.”

That Week in Vancouver ~ Quinn Hughes
(Pt. 2 of That Night in Michigan)
"You can just keep believing whatever you want to believe if it makes you feel better about the way you treated me."
Word count: ~11,800
Warnings: some toxic behaviours (primarily arguing), drinking, language, smut.
A/N: there is a small potential for a part three, I have an idea for it but it depends on how motivated I am to keep going with this as a series. It's already gotten much longer than I ever intended it to.
“Do you have time to talk?”
There’s a silence that falls over the line that makes your heart race, your hands growing clammy. He had answered the phone at the very least, you had to hold onto some hope that he would be willing to have a conversation. It wasn’t a big ask, you didn’t need all day. You just needed a few minutes, a few minutes that could determine the outcome of your entire relationship.
“Quinn?” you whisper, unable to sit in the silence for any longer.
“I don’t really have time,” Quinn tells you, his voice distant and cold.
“Oh,” you mumble, your eyes prickling with tears. “When, um…when would you have time?”
“I don’t know,” Quinn replies quickly. “Things are kind of busy right now.”
Your breath catches in your throat and you blink quickly, trying to stop the onslaught of tears coming to your eyes. “Quinn, please,” you plead.
“Sorry,” Quinn mumbles. “I’m sorry, I have to go,” he croaks, the first indication that this wasn’t as easy for him as he was making it seem.
Before you have the chance to say anything else the call ends, your heart sinking with it. Pulling your knees to your chest you feel a few tears slip from your eyes. “Fuck,” you mutter under your breath, tossing your phone onto the couch beside you. Wiping the tears from your face with your sleeve you struggle through a few deep breaths, your breath catching in your throat each time. Was this really how it was going to end? A lifetime of friendship. Years of feelings. All of that to end without so much as a conversation.
You don’t know how long you sit there until eventually your body is so exhausted from crying that you climb off the couch, heading straight to bed. At least if you were asleep you could silence the never-ending stream of thoughts about you and Quinn. It doesn’t take long till you fall asleep that night, sleeping till late the next morning.
When you finally pull yourself out of bed you take a shower, your body numb as you go about some sort of normal routine, unsure of what else to do. Standing in front of the coffee maker in your kitchen you stare at the drops of coffee splashing into the slowly filling pot. Your phone vibrates on the counter beside you and you glance over at it, opening the text message from Luke.
‘if I get a dog would you look after it when we’re on the road?’
Sighing you read the message before locking your phone, setting it back down again to pour yourself a mug of coffee. As you’re stirring some cream into it you hear your phone vibrate again.
‘at least turn your read receipts off if you’re going to ignore me’
Picking up your phone you quickly send him a message back. ‘sorry, just not having a great day’.
A second later your screen is filled with an incoming FaceTime call from Luke. Groaning quietly you slide to answer it as you walk into the living room. “Hi,” you say quietly, flopping down onto the couch.
“What’s wrong?” Luke asks, skipping past a greeting.
“Nothing,” you mumble, fiddling with a loose thread on the blanket that was tossed over the back of your couch. “It’s not a big deal.”
“Alright,” Luke drawls, clearly not convinced. “So will you look after my dog?”
You can’t help but giggle, rolling your eyes. Luke was always there for you when things weren’t going well, even if he didn’t always know the appropriate responses to your emotions. “I don’t know if you’re even responsible enough to take care of a dog when you are home.”
“I am,” Luke defends quickly. “I just have to feed him and walk him.”
“And train him and brush him and take him to the vet and the dog groomer and make sure he’s getting enough exercise.”
“Yeah, yeah, I can do all that,” Luke says with a shrug. “I think it’ll be fun.”
“Sure,” you say with a quiet laugh. “I’ll look after him when you’re on the road if you get a dog.”
“Thank you,” Luke replies, smiling happily. “Now tell me why you’re so sad.”
Sighing loudly you toss your head back dramatically, staring up at the ceiling. “Quinn won’t talk to me,” you state quickly, knowing that if you didn’t just say it you wouldn’t be able to get the words out. “I called him last night, he won’t talk to me.”
“What did he say?”
“Literally nothing,” you mumble. “He said he didn’t have time to talk and he’s too busy to talk later.”
“He’s just upset about you and Holtzy,” Luke explains, as if you were completely in the dark as to why Quinn didn’t want to talk to you.
“I know, Luke, I’m not an idiot,” you exclaim, eyes flooding with tears again. “Sorry…I just…I don’t know what to do. I miss him.” Reaching up you quickly wipe away the tears that had pooled under your eyes.
“I know,” Luke mutters, nodding slowly. “Are you doing anything today?”
“Not really,” you tell him honestly, shrugging it off quickly.
“Get ready, I’m going to pick you up.”
“I don’t want to go anywhere, Luke,” you mutter, sighing quietly.
“You just want to sit there and cry alone all day?”
“Oh my god,” you whine, shaking your head. “Leave me alone.”
“I’ll be there in like forty-five minutes,” Luke tells you, hanging up before you can argue against it.
Sighing you pull yourself off the couch, finding an outfit for whatever this mysterious outing was. You busy yourself getting ready until Luke texts you, telling you he was there. Hurrying out of your apartment you find him idling on the street in front of your apartment building, hopping into his car. “Hi,” you greet, pulling your seatbelt on.
“Hey,” Luke replies, waiting till you were situated in your seat before pulling back out onto the road. “Do you want like a coffee or something?”
“You’re trying really hard, aren’t you?” you tease, giggling quietly.
“Yeah, I don’t want you to be sad,” Luke tells you. “But if you keep making fun of me I might stop.”
“No, please don’t,” you laugh. “Yeah, I’d love a coffee.”
Luke takes you to your favourite coffee shop, after you gave him step by step instructions of how to get there. With a latte in hand you climb back into Luke’s car, still unsure of where he was planning to take you.
“Where are we going?” you ask.
“It’s a surprise,” Luke tells you with a mischievous smile.
“I’m scared,” you joke, taking a sip of your coffee as you look out the window, trying to figure out where you could possibly be headed.
Shortly after Luke pulls into the parking lot of a large building, your eyes focusing on the sign out front. “You’re unbelievable,” you laugh, looking at the animal shelter in front of you.
“Come on, you know that seeing dogs is going to cheer you up.”
You follow Luke out of the car and towards the building. “We’re not leaving here with a dog, Luke,” you warn, stepping inside as Luke holds the door open for you.
After talking briefly with the woman at the front counter she guides you through the building to the dog kennels. “Looking to expand the family?” she asks with a friendly smile.
“What?” Luke asks cluelessly.
“No…we’re not, um, we’re-,” you begin.
“Ew,” Luke mutters.
Looking over at him you narrow your eyes, scoffing. “Well you don’t have to act like it would be disgusting,” you joke. “We’re just friends, he’s looking for a dog, I’m just the designated pet-sitter.”
“Well it’s always good to have a pet-sitter lined up,” she says uncertainly. “Anyway, I’ll leave you two to take a look, let me know if you have any questions.”
Walking over to one of the kennels you look at the tag on the door, reading it over. “Muffins,” you gush, looking at the small dog in the kennel. “His name is Muffins,” you repeat.
“Muffins is ugly,” Luke mutters from behind you, staring at the little dog with scraggly fur, bulging eyes, tear stains on his white fur. Reaching over you playfully whack Luke’s arm. “Don’t be mean to Muffins,” you scold.
“Look at this one,” Luke says, drawing your attention away from Muffins and to the large lab in the next kennel over.
“You’re so predictable,” you tease, reading the description of Dewey the lab. The two of you wander along the rows of kennels, fighting against falling in love with each and every one of the dogs. By the time you were leaving that afternoon you were covered in dog fur, no longer quite as sad as you had been when you woke up that morning.
Sitting in the car with Luke he scrolls through the pictures that he had taken of the dogs, clearly wanting to go back in and adopt one right then and there. Leaning over you look through the pictures with him, stopping him when he gets to a picture he took of you and one of the puppies. “Can you send that to me?”
“So you can post it on instagram?” Luke teases.
“Shut up,” you wine, rolling your eyes. “Yes.”
Luke chuckles, sending you the picture before setting his phone down. “What do you want to do now?”
“I don’t know, you’re the one who dragged me out.” Saving the photo to your phone you open instagram, adding the picture to your story with the caption ‘puppies really do make bad days better’, tagging Luke in the corner.
“You’re so dramatic,” Luke says, pulling out of the parking lot. “Are you still going to pretend you didn’t have fun?”
“No,” you say, shaking your head. “Thank you, Luke…I do feel a bit better.”
“Good.” Luke turns down another street, seemingly on the way back to your apartment. “Quinn’s just an idiot,” Luke says suddenly. “He’ll come around, I promise.”
“I don’t know,” you mumble, glancing over at Luke. “I think this is different.”
“Why?”
Shrugging you look down at your hands, fidgeting with your fingers. “Because he’s never been like this before. He’s never been mean to me before, he’s never said things like…that.”
“What did he say?”
“He basically called me a whore…I mean, not directly, but it was easy enough to figure out what he meant. He said that I don’t think about anyone other than myself and that he’s done with me.”
Luke is quiet for a few seconds before looking over at you when he stops at a red light. “What?” he finally mutters.
“Yeah,” you whisper, sniffling quietly. “Maybe it really is just time to move on. I just…I love him so much, I don’t know…it’s hard.”
“He’s an asshole,” Luke mutters under his breath. “I didn’t know that’s what he said to you,” Luke admits.
“I didn’t really want to talk about it,” you tell him with a shrug. “I mean, I guess maybe he’s right, maybe I was flirting with everyone, I don’t know. I’d take it all back, it never even meant anything to me, I didn’t realize it was affecting him like that…I just…I just want him back. Maybe things will never be more than they were before, maybe we’re not meant to be together or anything but to lose him altogether, as a friend…I can’t handle that.” You hadn’t even realized how quick your breathing had grown, tears streaming down your cheeks. “Sorry,” you mumble, wiping the tears from your face.
“You’re fine,” Luke assures you, glancing over with a smile so full of pity that it makes you want to hurl yourself out of the car. “Can I, um, can I do anything to help?”
Choking out a breath of laughter between your shaky breaths you shake your head. “No, I don’t think anyone can do anything to help.”
Luke turns into the parking lot of your apartment building, pulling into one of the visitor spots. “Well can I at least come hang out for a bit?”
“I’m not going to say no,” you tell him, picking your purse up from the floor of his car. “But you really don’t have to stay just because I’m sad.”
“You know that I actually like spending time with you, right? I don’t know why you’re acting like I’m doing you a favour.”
“I just don’t think that I’m that fun to be around right now.” Climbing out of his car you fish your keys from your purse, guiding Luke into the building.
“Remember when I had the flu and you spent like a week taking care of me?” Luke asks as he watches you press the button for the elevator. “Was I fun then?”
“I mean it was kinda funny,” you say with a playful smile. “I would never have expected a little flu to take you down so easily.”
“It was bad,” Luke defends, chuckling as he leans against the wall of the elevator.
A few minutes later the doors slide open and you guide Luke to your apartment, kicking off your shoes and heading for the couch. Luke joins you a minute later, grabbing the remote from the coffee table. “What do you want to watch?”
“You’re actually going to let me pick?” you ask in shock.
“You’re the one who’s sad,” Luke reminds you, handing the remote to you.
You pick your favourite show on Netflix, pulling your legs up onto the couch and curling up in the corner. You watch the show in silence for a few minutes before looking over at Luke, watching him type something on his phone. “Do you think he ever loved me?” you whisper, a feeling of shame washing over you for even asking the question, of wanting that reassurance.
Luke is quiet for a minute, as if he wasn’t sure how he should reply, like you were a ticking time bomb waiting for the next thing to set you off. “Yes.”
Nodding slowly you turn your attention back to the tv, your vision blurry as you stare through a layer of tears. You didn’t know what else to say, didn’t want to talk about anything else yet you didn’t want to talk about it either. So you remained silent, watching episode after episode till you were beginning to drift to sleep.
“Hey,” Luke whispers, gently shaking your shoulder.
Inhaling sharply your eyes fly open, glancing around in a tired shock. “Hm?” you hum. “What time is it?…How long was I asleep?”
“A few hours,” Luke tells you with a shrug. “I’m going to go home now though, I have practice in the morning. Do you want to come? I’ll give you my bed again.”
Shaking your head you sit up, blinking tiredly. “No, no, that’s okay…thank you though.”
“Are you sure? Are you going to be okay alone?”
“Luke, I’m fine,” you assure him, swinging your legs off the edge of the couch. Standing up you pull him into a hug, resting your head on his shoulder. “Thank you for coming over today. Text me when you get home, okay?”
Luke waits for you to pull away first before saying goodbye, heading out to drive back to his place. After waking up a bit more you find something for dinner, calling your best friend to talk, needing to get out of your head. You end up talking with her for most of the evening before heading to bed rather early, the intense emotions of the last couple days catching up with you.
The next morning you wake up early, trying to keep yourself busy so that you didn’t fall into the same sadness that you felt the day before. You couldn’t spend the rest of your life wallowing. After having breakfast you take your coffee and grab your laptop, heading to the living room to sit on the couch. You pay a few bills before opening your email, your eyes narrowing in on one email from 1:46am.
Flight Confirmation.
Nervously clicking on it you scroll down, confusion building when you see that it was indeed a flight booked under your name. Then your eyes fall to the destination. Vancouver. Glancing at the date you realize it’s for next weekend, your heart racing.
Picking up your phone you dial the number of the only person you thought would be buying you a flight to Vancouver. You listen to the dial tone for so long you begin to wonder if he wasn’t going to answer at all.
“Hi?” Quinn mutters, his voice groggy and tired.
Looking at the clock you realize how early it still was in Vancouver. “Shit, sorry, did I wake you up?”
“It’s fine,” Quinn mumbles. “Did you get the email?”
“Yes,” you whisper, your eyes not leaving the screen of your laptop. “Why?”
“Because I’m sorry,” Quinn says quietly. “I’m sorry I was such an asshole to you, I shouldn’t have treated you like that and I want to see you. If the date doesn’t work I can change the flight, just let me know when, I figured you have weekends off so I thought it would be better to pick a weekend but I know the flight is Friday morning so if you can’t leave that day I can just-.”
“This weekend is perfect,” you interrupt. “I’m sorry too, Quinn, I never meant to hurt you.”
“It’s okay,” Quinn assures you. “I miss you.”
“I miss you too,” you reply, not expecting your voice to grow shaky in the way it did. “I can let you get back to sleep now.”
“No, it’s okay, I was going to get up soon anyway.”
“Okay,” you whisper, still staring at the flight details on your laptop screen. “You didn’t need to buy me a first-class ticket, Quinn.”
“It’s the least I could do,” Quinn tells you quietly. “You’re going to let Luke get a dog?”
You can’t help but laugh at the question, pushing your laptop off your lap and curling up on the couch, staring out the window across the room. “I can’t really stop him…you’re his big brother though, maybe you should talk him out of it,” you tell him. “How long has he been talking about this?”
“Not long,” Quinn mumbles. “We talked yesterday.”
“Oh,” you whisper, wondering if wanting a dog was the only thing that Luke talked to Quinn about. “About a dog?”
Quinn is quiet for a little too long, your palms growing clammy, realizing that the answer probably wasn’t yes. “About you,” Quinn finally admits. “I um, I saw the Instagram story and called him. I just, uh…I wanted to make sure you were okay.”
“And he told you I’m not?” you ask, though it was more of a statement than a question.
“Not exactly,” Quinn replies. “He did make sure that I knew I was an asshole…not that I didn’t already know that.”
“If you already knew that why have you been refusing to talk to me, Quinn?”
Quinn sighs heavily, silence falling over the line. “Because I was hurt,” Quinn mumbles. “I was hurt and jealous and I don’t know…I just didn’t want to admit that. I’m sorry.”
You wanted to forgive him, wanted to tell him that it was okay. But it wasn’t. It wasn’t okay the way he treated you in Michigan, it wasn’t okay the way that the situation had played out since. Dismissing it, telling him it was fine, you knew that wasn’t going to help the situation. You needed to talk about it, to really discuss it. Maybe he was right in booking you the flight, maybe this just wasn’t a conversation that you could have over the phone.
“What should I pack for Vancouver?” you whisper, doing your best to change the topic.
Quinn hesitates a moment, clearly taken aback by the 180 degree change in the conversation. He tells you the plan for the weekend, primarily just that he had a game on Saturday, though he assured you that you didn’t need to go if you didn’t want to. You told him you did, making a mental note to add an outfit to wear to the game to your list.
You talked on the phone for nearly an hour before Quinn had to go, not wanting to be late for practice. You spend the rest of the day preparing for the week ahead, grocery shopping, meal prepping, laundry, all the chores that kept your mind busy.
The week went by slowly, each work day feeling never-ending. The closer you got to your 6am Friday flight the closer your anxiety gets to overtaking your excitement. Of course you wanted to see Quinn, wanted to make up for the months of not even speaking to each other. But you also knew that the point of this trip was to talk about what had happened, a conversation you were dreading having.
Friday morning you wake up at 4am, collecting your luggage and climbing into an Uber half asleep. You’re not fully awake till you’re on the plane, the six hours ahead of you seeming like they were going to stretch on forever.
By the time you landed in Vancouver your heart was hammering so heavily you were worried you might just drop dead of a heart attack right then and there. Your hands were shaky and clammy as you wiggled your carry-on out of the overhead compartment. You follow everyone off the plane, down the long hallway and to the arrivals area of the airport.
Weaving your way through everyone around you stopping to greet their loved ones your eyes scan the crowd of people still waiting. When your eyes land on Quinn you nearly stop walking altogether, your heart stopping for a moment. Three months of not even talking to him made it feel like years of not seeing him. Hesitantly you force yourself closer, not knowing what to expect when you get to him. But as soon as you’re close enough Quinn has his arms around you, pulling you close against him.
“Hi,” you whisper, fingers curling into the fabric of Quinn’s hoodie.
“Hi,” Quinn replies, pressing his lips to the top of your head. “How was your flight?”
“Really good,” you reply. “I’ve never flown first-class before.”
“I’ll make sure you only ever fly first-class from now on.”
“Stop,” you giggle, shaking your head. “A seat on a flight is good enough for me…especially if it means I get to see you.”
“I love you,” Quinn whispers in a way that makes your heart skip a beat. You had been telling each other you loved each other since childhood. In the same way that you told Jack and Luke that you loved them. But your love for Quinn was so different and you weren’t sure what his admission of love entailed. “Should we go get your suitcase?”
“Y-yeah,” you stammer, nodding quickly, thankful that Quinn had said something to break you from your train of thoughts. Heading to the baggage carousel you wait till you see your suitcase, dragging it off the carousel.
Quinn swoops in quickly, taking your bag from you. “Ready to go?” Quinn asks, gesturing towards the door.
Nodding you follow Quinn through the airport and out into the cool air outside, rain drops hammering onto the sidewalk. “People weren’t lying about how much it rains here,” you comment.
“You can wait here, I’ll bring the car around,” Quinn offers.
Shaking your head you step closer to Quinn. “No, it’s just rain, I’ll survive.”
Quinn slides his jacket off quickly, wrapping it around your shoulders.
“It’s okay,” you whisper, your eyes locking with his as he keeps his hands on the jacket wrapped around you. You slide your arms into the sleeves when you realize Quinn is not about to take the jacket back. “Thank you,” you tell him, pulling the fabric around your body. The jacket smells like Quinn, his body wash or cologne or maybe just his laundry detergent, but whatever it was it was it felt comforting, familiar.
Quinn picks up your suitcase again and you follow him through the parking lot, quickly climbing into the dry car. Quinn is in the driver’s seat a moment later, starting the car before looking over at you. “Thanks for coming.”
“I just want to figure this out,” you say quietly, pulling your seatbelt on. Glancing over at Quinn for a moment before you turn your attention back to the drops of rain landing on the windshield. “I can’t lose you, Quinn.”
Quinn reaches over, his hand sliding into yours, squeezing it gently. “I know I fucked up, but I promise you that I’m not going anywhere.”
Sniffling quietly you nod slowly, not entirely sure you believed him. Sure, you were here with him now. But it seemed so easy for him just weeks ago, to tell you that he simply didn’t have any time to talk.
“I’m sorry,” Quinn adds, squeezing your hand again before shifting the car into drive, pulling out of the parking spot.
You remain silent through the entirety of the drive, your mind racing with thoughts that brought tears to your eyes. You knew what was coming. You knew you needed to have a real conversation about what had happened in Michigan, about what was going to happen now. But you didn’t know how it would go, didn’t know what Quinn would say about it, and you were scared that somehow, someway, it would only make things worse.
When you get to Quinn’s apartment building you follow him inside, sliding his jacket off your body and hanging it in the closet by the door. You had never been to his apartment before, almost all of your time together was spent in Michigan.
“Are you hungry? Do you want something to eat or drink?” Quinn asks, walking into the kitchen.
Shaking your head you rest your hands on the counter, looking over at him. “I think we should talk.”
Quinn nods, sighing quietly. “Yeah,” he mumbles, nodding towards the living room. “Should we go sit down?”
“Sure.” Turning around you walk to the living room, sitting on one end of the large couch. Lifting your legs onto the couch you pull them to your chest, wrapping your arms around them in an attempt to comfort yourself. “I don’t really know what to say,” you admit.
“Me neither,” Quinn agrees, sitting on the edge of the couch, leaning forward, eyes focusing on the living room floor. “I know it’s not an excuse but I was so drunk that night,” Quinn begins, glancing over at you. “And I see the way people look at you, the way everyone just falls for you, which I get, but, I don’t know…it’s hard. Seeing you with Alex that day, on the dock, I was jealous,” Quinn rambles.
Nodding slowly you dig your fingers into your legs, forcing deep breaths into your lungs. “But you didn’t have to be so mean to me, Quinn. We could have just talked about it.”
“I know,” Quinn replies quickly, shaking his head. “I shouldn’t have said those things to you. I shouldn’t have treated you like that. I don’t have an excuse, I was hurt and drunk.”
“I didn’t mean to hurt you,” you whisper, your eyes prickling with tears again. You had never cried so much in such a short period of time, had never expected to. “You know that, right?”
Quinn shrugs, his elbows resting on his knees, leaning forward to stare at the ground. “Yeah, I mean, I guess.”
“Quinn,” you croak. “What do you mean you guess? I promise the last thing I would ever want to do is hurt you.”
“Then why did you do it?” Quinn snaps, turning his head to look over at you.
“I-,” you begin, shaking your head. “I don’t know, I really didn’t mean to, nothing I said or did with them meant anything, it was just-.”
“No?” Quinn interrupts with a scoff. “Nothing you did with Alex meant anything?”
“It wasn’t-,” you begin before getting interrupted again.
“Don’t lie to me,” Quinn interjects. “I’m not that fucking stupid. I saw your stories with him, I know when you were going out with Jack and Luke that Alex was there too. I know you went home with him after you guys went out drinking. If you’re going to sit there and tell me that none of that meant anything then maybe none of the stuff you said to me meant anything either.”
“That’s not true,” you plead, eyes glossy with tears. “I don’t know what you want me to say, Quinn. I’m sorry, I really am. Yeah, Alex and I were hanging out but that doesn’t mean what I said to you wasn’t true.”
“If it was true you wouldn’t be fucking one of my friends,” Quinn mutters.
Swallowing heavily you wipe away your tears, shaking your head. “You’re such an asshole,” you mumble under your breath.
“I’m the asshole?” Quinn snaps.
“Yes,” you exclaim, dropping your legs off the couch and standing up quickly. “You called me a whore, Quinn. You said such horrible things and now you have the audacity to get mad at me when I started spending time with someone who actually was nice to me after all that.”
“I did not call you a whore,” Quinn defends, staring up at you from where he was still sitting on the edge of the couch. "I would never say that."
“Maybe you didn’t use that word but how do you think I would take you telling me that I’m flirting with everyone, that I want the attention of every single man around? Do you know how bad that hurt, Quinn? You’re telling me that you’re not sure if you believe I didn’t mean to hurt you but you’re not acknowledging how much you hurt me.”
Quinn is quiet for a few seconds, his eyes falling back to the ground, not looking you in the eyes. “I didn’t mean to.”
“Maybe you should have thought about someone other than yourself then,” you tell him, repeating his words from that night in Michigan back to him. Maybe you shouldn’t be so petty. Maybe you should have been the bigger person. Maybe you should have let it go. But your heart was racing, your hands clammy, your mind scattered in a million directions and a part of you selfishly wanted him to feel the way you felt that night.
Quinn visibly flinches in response to your words, inhaling deeply. “I’m sorry,” Quinn breathes out.
You were already on your way towards his front door, body moving faster than your mind. Grabbing your purse you toss it onto your shoulder, yanking the same jacket Quinn had let you wear earlier off the hanger in the closet.
“Where are you going?” Quinn asks, hopping up from the couch and hurrying over to you.
“I don’t know,” you tell him honestly, spinning towards the front door. Your hand lands on the door handle just seconds before Quinn is wrapping his hand around your wrist. “Don’t,” you mumble, yanking your hand away from him. “And for the record, I didn’t sleep with Alex. I’ve never fucked any of your friends. But you can just keep believing whatever you want to believe if it makes you feel better about the way you treated me.” Yanking the door open you head out into the hallway, finding the stairs and hurrying down them.
Outside the rain is still pouring heavily from the sky and you begin walking quickly, continuing till you find a coffee shop. Inside you pull the soaking jacket from your body, laying it over your arm and heading to the till. After ordering yourself a coffee you find a seat tucked away in the corner of the coffee shop, watching the cars passing, the rain drops bouncing off the sidewalk.
You’re not there long before your phone begins vibrating. First with a call from Quinn. Then a text message. Then a couple more calls and a few more texts. Sure, you probably should have replied, but your mind was still racing a million miles an hour. All of your thoughts were so incredibly cloudy that you didn't even know what to say if you were to reply.
Eventually, long after your coffee cup is empty, your phone rings and this time it’s Jack. Sighing you slide to answer it, bringing the phone to your ear. “Hi,” you say quietly.
“Hi,” Jack replies with an audible sigh. “You okay?”
“I’m fine,” you tell him honestly, fiddling with the cardboard sleeve on your paper cup.
“Where are you? What’s going on? Are you sure you’re okay?”
“I’m in a coffee shop, Jack, I’m perfectly fine.”
“Quinn is freaking out,” Jack tells you. “Can you please just call him?”
“No,” you mumble, watching a man walking by with his dog, the dog’s hair plastered to their body with rain. “I want to come home, Jack.”
“Oh my god,” Jack groans. “You two are so fucking annoying.”
“Fuck you,”  you whisper, glancing around to make sure nobody in the quiet coffee shop could hear you. “Why would you say that? I haven’t done anything.”
“Both of you need to get over what happened in Michigan,” Jack tells you.
“Tell him that,” you mutter, rolling your eyes to nobody but yourself at that table.
“I did,” Jack exclaims. There’s a few seconds of silence after he says it, unable to think of anything to say. Because he was right, you both needed to be honest. You both did and said things you wished you hadn’t, both made mistakes. “Do you want me to book you a flight home?” Jack finally asks.
“No, it’s okay…thank you though.”
“So are you going to go back to Quinn’s place or do you want me to book you a hotel room?”
“I could book my own hotel room if I wanted to,” you tell him with a quiet sigh.
“You’re always complaining that you’re broke,” Jack comments.
“I know how much money you make, Jack, I’m broke in comparison.”
“I’m never buying you drinks again,” Jack replies with a chuckle.
“Please,” you say with a giggle.
“If you go talk to Quinn and figure out whatever is going on with you two and leave me out it, then I’ll consider buying your drinks when we go out again.”
“Fine,” you whine playfully. “What do I even say to him?”
“I don’t know, just go talk to him. I’m sure you two will figure it out.”
“I’m scared,” you admit.
“Why are you scared?” Jack asks, a sudden intensity in his tone.
“What if he never forgives me?”
“Just go talk to him,” Jack sighs. “He’s losing his mind right now, just go talk to him.”
“Fine, I’ll go back,” you groan. Standing up you pick up Quinn’s jacket from the back of the chair, pulling it on. “I’m sorry you had to get involved in this,” you tell Jack, picking up your empty coffee cup to toss it into the garbage on the way out the door.
“It’s fine,” Jack assures you. “Just figure this out, okay?”
“Okay…we’ll try,” you tell him. “I’ll talk to you later.”
“Good luck,” Jack says.
“Thank you,” you say with a sigh, stepping outside. “Bye, Jack,” you say before hanging up. Hurrying through the rain you make your way back to Quinn’s apartment, stopping outside to text him to let him know you were back.
Quinn is down in the lobby a second later, letting you inside. “I’m sorry,” Quinn says as a greeting, reaching over and pulling you into his arms. Your jacket is soaked, seeping into the fabric of his hoodie.
“Let’s just go upstairs,” you mumble, though if you were being honest the last thing you wanted to do was let go of him.
Quinn pulls back, guiding you back into his apartment. You’re quiet as you pull off the jacket, kicking your shoes off a second later. Following Quinn back to the living room you slowly sit down, sighing quietly. “I talked to Jack.”
“I figured,” Quinn mumbles, sitting down across from you. “I’m really sorry.”
“Me too,” you mumble, looking across the couch at him. “I-,” you begin, eyes filling with tears again. “I don’t know how to deal with this, Quinn, I can’t lose you. I love you so much. I don’t know…I don’t know what to do.”
Quinn slides closer to you, pulling you into his arms. “I love you too,” Quinn tells you, pressing his lips to your forehead. “You’re not going to lose me. I’m not going anywhere, okay?” Nodding slowly you clutch at Quinn’s arms, holding him tight against you. “I’m sorry for everything I did, everything I said. I promise I’ll never talk to you like that again. I don’t expect you to forgive me right now, I know what I did was horrible.”
“I do,” you whisper, pulling back to look up at him. “I do forgive you, Quinn. I know you’re sorry, I really do. I just need you to stop holding me flirting with other people over me. We weren’t together. I’m sorry that I didn’t realize the way it was making you feel, I really am. But I wasn’t trying to hurt you, I wasn’t doing it to make you feel bad.”
Quinn reaches down, taking your hands in his, squeezing them gently. “I know we weren’t together, I know you weren’t doing anything wrong and I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay,” you whisper, reaching up to wipe away a few tears that had slipped from your eyes. You weren’t even sure why you were crying anymore. Relief, exhaustion, an overwhelming level of emotions. “What now?”
Quinn shrugs, glancing over at the TV. “Do you want to go somewhere? Or do you want to just stay here and hang-out?”
“Stay here,” you tell him laughing quietly. You didn’t need a mirror to know that your eyes were swollen and red, that your skin was splotchy from all the tears you had shed. “If that’s okay with you.”
“Of course,” Quinn assures you, reaching over and picking up the remote. He hands it to you before leaning back on the couch, watching as you turn the tv on. “We can order dinner too, just let me know when.”
Picking up your phone you look at the time. It had been a long day but you were still shocked to see that it was nearing 6pm already. You pick a show, watching an episode before the two of you order dinner. The rest of the evening goes by quickly, most of it spent in relative silence as you watch a few more episodes of the show you had put on.
Eventually Quinn shows you to the guest room and you change into some pyjamas before settling into the bed. You fall asleep easily that night. Maybe it really was just because the bed was so comfortable, but you’re sure there was more to it than that.
When you wake up the next morning Quinn is already gone for morning skate, a note on the kitchen counter letting you know he would be back that afternoon. The note also told you that there was coffee in the cupboard and to help yourself to anything else you wanted. You were almost certain he bought the coffee specifically for you, something you confirmed when you found it unopened in the cupboard. After making yourself a cup you head to the living room, watching TV while waiting for him to get home.
The sound of the front door opening draws your attention just a little after 12pm. “Hey,” Quinn greets, walking over to sit on the couch next to you. “How was your morning? I didn’t want to wake you before I left.”
“It was good, I slept in, that bed is really comfortable,” you tell him, moving closer and wrapping your arms around him. You rest your head on his shoulder, feeling his arms circle around you, pulling you closer.
“It’s not bad,” Quinn says with a chuckle. “My bed is better.”
“Are you bragging? Because I am your guest and that’s kind of rude,” you tease, pulling back slightly to look into his eyes.
“Maybe a bit…but I’m not stopping you from sleeping in it with me so I don't think it's that rude.”
“I don’t know, the last time I slept in a bed with you seemed like the beginning of the whole disaster,” you joke.
“Too soon,” Quinn chuckles, shaking his head. He stands up and reaches down, taking your hand and pulling you to your feet. “Come on.”
“Where?” you ask, though you’re in his bedroom before he has the chance to answer you. You watch him lay down on one side of the bed, gesturing for you to take the other side. Walking over you lay down beside him, rolling onto your side to face him. “It is really comfy,” you admit.
“I wasn’t lying,” he tells you with a chuckle. "I do need to have a nap before the game though."
"That's why you brought me in here? To break the new sthat you need to have a nap?"
"Kinda," Quinn admits. "And because I did actually want to brag about the bed."
Rolling your eyes playfully you sit up, looking down at him. "Okay, Grandpa. What 24-year-old gets this excited about a bed?"
"It was expensive," Quinn exclaims.
"I'm sure it was," you reply with a giggle. "Do you want me to tuck you in for your nap before I go or are you okay all by yourself?"
"Get outta here," Quinn jokes, shaking his head.
Giggling you climb off the bed, heading back to the living room to continue keeping yourself busy for the afternoon. It wasn't hard, after an episode of your favourite show you head to the bathroom, finding a towel and hopping into the shower. By the time you're out of the shower Quinn is already up, startling you as you step out of the bathroom in nothing but a towel.
"You scared me," you breathe out, clutching the towel to your naked body.
"It's my apartment," Quinn says with a chuckle. "Why are you not expecting me to be here?"
"I thought you'd still be napping. Must need a lot of beauty sleep to look that cute," you tease, stepping past him towards the bedroom.
"We can't all just be naturally cute like you," he comments before you disappear behind the closed door of the guest bedroom. It was such an insignificant comment but you couldn't stop your stomach from filling with butterflies regardless.
Later that afternoon you're in the bathroom, running your fingers through your hair, fixing it slightly. Your eyes shift over your shoulder, seeing Quinn appear in the mirror behind you. Your lips curl into a soft smile, eyes drifting up and down his body. Quinn was always attractive to you but you were more used to Quinn in a t-shirt and shorts at the lake than Quinn in a suit before a game.
“You look good,” you tell him, turning around to look at him. Leaning back against the counter you watch Quinn walk closer. “Very handsome,” you add, running your fingers over the lapels of his suit jacket once he’s close enough to you.
“You look good too,” Quinn mumbles, his hands landing on your hips.
You feel your breath catch in your throat, swallowing heavily. “Can’t believe this is the first time I get to see you play in Vancouver.”
“Hopefully it won’t be the last,” Quinn replies, stepping close enough to cause your heart to hammer heavily in your chest. “You sure you’re going to be okay to get there alone tonight?”
“I’m positive,” you whisper, your eyes flicking down to his lips. Your heart was hammering so fast in your chest you were sure it was about to burst. “Good luck tonight,” you whisper.
Quinn smiles softly, leaning in a little closer. “Thank you,” he mumbles, his lips nearly brushing against yours. You could feel your breath catch in your throat, your hands running up his chest, resting you arms over his shoulders. Just seconds before your lips touch his your phone rings loudly on the counter beside you, making you jump.
Laughing you pull back, pressing your hand over your heart. “Oh my god,” you breathe out, reaching over to silence your phone. “Sorry,” you add with a sheepish smile. “Really ruined the moment there.”
Quinn chuckles, leaning in to kiss your forehead quickly. “I’ll text you later, okay?”
You couldn’t deny the disappointment you were feeling that the moment really was ending this way. But you knew that Quinn said he was already running late and you weren’t about to make him any later. “Okay,” you whisper, watching him turn around and head out of the bathroom.
You order yourself dinner after Quinn leaves, hanging out by yourself until you needed to head to the arena. The sky is dark already as you climb into the Uber outside Quinn’s apartment building, pulling your seatbelt on.
“Going to the Canucks game?” you Uber driver asks you, looking at you through the mirror.
“Yeah,” you tell him with a nod and a friendly smile. “First Canucks game here.”
“First game ever?”
You can’t help but laugh, shaking your head. “No, I’ve been to a few before. Never in Vancouver though.”
“Oh, really? Who’d you see play before?”
“Mostly the Devils,” you tell him, realizing the more information you gave the more you would need to explain. “I’m just here visiting a friend.”
“You’re from New Jersey?”
“No, I live in New York now.”
You watch him glance back at you, clearly not following along. “Something against the Rangers?”
“I guess you could say that,” you tell him with a shrug. You’re at the arena shortly after, heading in and finding your seat.
The game passes quickly, your attention on Quinn throughout the entirety of the game. It was different than watching Jack and Luke play. It felt more intense, like the outcome of the game would somehow be an indicator of the outcome of this entire trip.
When the game ends and the Canucks win with a score of 4-2 you can't help but feel a mixture of relief and happiness. It really did feel like a good omen of sorts.
You wait around the arena after the game, doing your best to fill the time till Quinn was ready to leave. You scroll though Instagram, liking post after post till you hit the point of not having a single new thing to look at. Eventually Quinn finds you, pulling you into a tight hug.
“Congratulations,” you whisper, not pulling back. “You’re even more impressive to watch in person.”
Quinn laughs at your comment, shaking his head. He had always been humble, refusing to accept your compliments. “Do you want to go out for a drink or something? I know it’s kind of late but you flew all the way up here, I don’t want you to just have to stay in my apartment the whole time.”
Giggling you lean up closer, your hands on his shoulders. “I’d be fine staying in your apartment with you the whole time.” You lean in a little closer, lips almost brushing against his. “Doing anything with you,” you whisper.
“You coming out with us or what?” someone calls, making you jump back from Quinn, turning in the direction of the voice.
Quinn places his hands on your hips, pulling your body back against him. “No, I think we’re just going to do our thing.”
The man in front of you chuckles, shooting Quinn a knowing look. “Sounds good, man, see you later,” he says before heading off in the other direction.
Giggling you spin around, looking up at Quinn. “Well, where are we going for drinks?”
Quinn reaches his hand down, sliding it into yours. “It’s a surprise,” he tells you. Guiding you out of the arena and to his car Quinn opens the passenger door for you. You climb into the car, pulling on your seatbelt. A few minutes later you’re on your way, heading downtown.
The lounge Quinn takes you to is small and intimate. The table you’re seated at is equally as intimate, tucked away in the back of the restaurant. Opening the menu your eyes scan over the options, more specifically the prices on that menu. Glancing over at Quinn you watch him look at the menu himself. It wasn’t that you didn’t have the money for the drinks, you just never would have picked a place so expensive yourself. You had also never seen this side of Quinn. You weren’t oblivious, you knew he had money. But you were so used to him with a bottle of some middle-of-the-road beer he picked up at the liquor store on the way to the lake house that you could barely picture him ordering a $25 cocktail.
“Do you know what you’re going to get?” Quinn asks before looking up from the menu, an uncertain smile on his face when he realizes that you're already looking at him. “What?”
“Nothing,” you say, shaking your head as you look back to the menu. “No, I’m not sure yet. What are you getting?”
“A sazerac, probably,” Quinn tells you with a shrug, the menu already closed letting you know it was most likely more than just probably.
“What’s that?” you whisper, your eyes scanning the menu again.
“Whisky,” Quinn tells you with a quiet chuckle. “Kind of like an old fashioned.”
“Right,” you drawl, nodding slowly. You couldn’t say you were that familiar with the old fashioned either but at least you knew what it was. “I think I’ll try the clover club.”
A few minutes later you order your drinks and you lean back in your chair, gazing across the table at Quinn. Was this a date? You hadn’t even stopped long enough to consider that possibility. You had gone out so, so many times before that you didn’t think the suggestion to go out this time was anything different than that.
“What are you thinking about?” Quinn asks uncertainly.
“You,” you whisper, with a small shrug. “Us,” you add a moment later.
“What are you thinking about us?” Quinn presses, leaning a little closer.
“I don’t really know,” you admit, glancing down at the table for a second. “Do you think there’ll ever be an us to really think about?”
Quinn swallows heavily, silence falling between the two of you as he stares across the small table at you. His silence makes you nervous, shifting in your chair under the intensity of his gaze. “I hope so,” he eventually tells you.
“I-,” you begin, your sentence getting cut short as your server returns with your drinks. She sets a coupe glass in front of you filled with a pink liquid, three perfect raspberries balanced across the top of the glass on a cocktail skewer. “It’s so cute.”
“It’s fitting,” Quinn says, picking up his glass and taking a drink of his own cocktail.
You can’t hold back your smile at Quinn’s comment, rolling your eyes playfully. “Okay, Casanova,” you tease.
“Am I not allowed to flirt with you now?”
Giggling you shake your head, “of course you can,” you tell him before picking up your glass and taking a sip. It’s stronger than you expected, catching you off guard as you slowly set it back down. Maybe that’s why they were so expensive. “I asked for some time off work before I came out here,” you say suddenly, watching Quinn closely, trying to gauge his reaction. Of course it had been presumptuous of you to take the time off before discussing it, but you had the vacation days anyway and you had assumed two days probably wouldn’t feel like long enough.
“Yeah?” Quinn says, reaching over and taking your hand, running his thumb across the back of it. “Does that mean you’re staying longer?”
Shrugging you stare down at your interlocked hands. “Depends if you want me to stay.”
“Of course…I don’t want you to leave yet,” Quinn tells you with a reassuring squeeze of your hand.
“Good, because I don’t want to leave yet either,” you tell him. Picking up your glass you take another sip of your drink, the liquid going down a lot smoother now that you were expecting it.
The two of you sit there at that table for hours, over multiple drinks and a couple appetizers. Your conversation is comfortable, the issues that had brought you to Vancouver in the first place no longer seeming so heavy or intense. Quinn pays the bill at the end of the night and your previous thoughts about the possibility of the evening being a date come flooding back into your mind.
Walking back into Quinn’s apartment you kick off your shoes, sliding your jacket off. “Thank you for tonight,” you say as you hang your jacket in the coat closet.
Quinn glances over at you, eyebrows furrowed. “Thanks for what?”
Shrugging you lean against the wall behind you. “I don’t know…taking me out, showing me a bit of Vancouver, paying for the bill.”
“It wasn’t a big deal,” Quinn assures you. “I wanted to.”
Reaching over you take Quinn’s hands in yours and pull him in front of you. “Just take the thank you, Quinn,” you whisper.
“Okay, fine…you’re welcome,” Quinn mumbles, staring down at you.
There’s an intensity in the moment, a heaviness in the air. Your heart was racing so fast, stomach filled with butterflies. The apartment is silent, so silent you begin to wonder if Quinn can hear it all. The shakiness in your breath, the hammering of your heart in your chest. The apartment is dim, lit by a single warm lightbulb a few feet away. Your eyes gravitate down to his lips and this time you don’t care how obvious it is.
He begins to lean in and your patience quickly wears thing, fingers grasping at the fabric of his shirt, pulling him down to press your lips to his. His hands land on your hips, pulling them closer to him, your shoulder blades pressing back into the wall. Sliding your hand up you tangle your fingers in his hair, your tongue brushing against his. His grasp on your hips tightens, a quiet moan slipping from your lips.
Your mind was hazy, your emotions overwhelming. Your body was begging for more, his hands on your body felt intoxicating. Sliding your arm over his shoulder you lean your body further into him, desperate to be as close to him as you could, desperate for more. When you pull away it’s to catch your breath, steady the racing of your heart. “I love you,” you whisper against his lips.
“I love you too,” Quinn replies, pressing another gentle kiss to your lips. He’s smiling when he pulls back, reaching down to take your hand. He guides you into the living room, sitting down and pulling you down beside him. He places his hand on your thigh, fingers just a little too high for your mind not to be filled with less-than-PG thoughts. “Do you want to watch a movie or something?”
“I, um, y-yeah,” you stammer. Quinn knows what he’s doing and you can tell by the smirk on his lips as he hands you the remote. Taking it from him you put something on the TV, the very first movie you could find that seemed alright.
You’re not watching the movie long before you feel Quinn’s fingers move on your thigh, a heavy breath escaping your lips. Your eyes flicker down to this hand, watching him brush his thumb on your leg. When you turn your attention to Quinn you see that he’s not watching the movie at all, his eyes are locked on you.
Pushing his hand off your thigh you swing your leg over his body, your hands resting on his shoulders as you lean down to kiss him. It’s fast and eager, your back arching as you roll your hips forward.
“Fuck,” Quinn breathes out as he pulls back. “Baby, you’re…,” he begins, cutting himself off with a strangled moan. You didn’t need him to finish the sentence, you knew what you were doing when you felt him growing hard beneath you.
His hands slide underneath your shirt, his fingers warm against your skin as he slides them up your waist. Pulling back you let him tug your shirt off, dropping it onto the ground beside you. Quinn leans closer, pressing his lips to yours as he unhooks your bra. You feel your bra come undone and you pull back. Your eyes lock with Quinn’s as you slowly slide the bra down your arms. It wasn’t like it was the first time he had seen you naked, but this time it was different. This time you were inviting him to do far more than just skinny dip with you.
Setting the bra down Quinn places his hands on your waist, sliding further down towards the edge of the couch. Leaning in your lips lock with his again, your body begging for more. “Quinn,” you whimper against his lips.
“Yes, baby?” he mumbles, his hands exploring your body, sliding to your hips as he tugs you in a little closer.
“I need you…please,” you whisper.
He doesn’t need you to say anything more, standing up and pulling you with him. He leads you into his bedroom, pushing you across the room till the backs of your thighs hit the mattress. Laying back on the bed you gasp in surprise as he lifts you further onto the bed, hovering over you as he unbuttons your jeans. “Quinn,” you gush.
“What?” he asks with a smirk, pulling your jeans down your legs as you lift your hips to make it easier.
“I just didn’t expect…this,” you tell him, sitting up as you push his shirt up his torso, letting him take over and toss it aside.
“I can slow down,” he offers, running his hands down your thighs.
“No,” you say quickly, giggling at your own eagerness. “Please, don’t,” you add.
Quinn chuckles, nodding as he leans down, pressing his lips to your inner thigh. He moves further up your thigh, and each time his lips brush against your skin your body jolts with desire. Slowly he pulls your underwear down your legs, letting them drop onto the floor. Your breathing is heavy by the time his tongue brushes against the spot that you had been nearly begging for.
“O-oh,” you gasp as he flicks his tongue over your clit. You weren’t sure what you were expecting but whatever it was you weren’t expecting it to feel this good.
Your fingers tangle in his hair, back arching as you moan loudly. “Fuck,” you breathe out, breathing heavily. His hands wrap around your thighs, your fingers curling into the fabric of the comforter on the bed, trying to keep yourself still as waves of pleasure rip through you.
Your body flushes with warmth, desperate to reach your climax as your hips begin to squirm. Quinn presses his arm against your hips, stilling them as his tongue flicks against your clit. “Oh fuck,” you whine, moaning loudly. A second later your muscles are tensing, waves of pleasure ripping through your body. “O-oh my god,” you cry out, flinching away from his tongue when the sensation grows too intense. “Okay, okay,” you mumble, hands cradling his face as you tug him back to your lips. Pressing your lips to his you kiss him deeply, your legs wrapping around his torso. “Please,” you whimper.
“Please, what?” Quinn teases.
Your breath leaves your lips shakily, eyes locked with his. “Please…I want you inside of me,” you plead.
Quinn leans in, kissing you gently before climbing off the bed. You watch him open the nightstand, grabbing a condom. You reach over, taking his hand and pulling him towards you, till he was standing in front of where you were sitting on the edge of the bed. Looking up at him you unbutton his pants, slowly pushing them down.
“Fuck,” Quinn breathes out, his hand on the back of your head, fingers weaving into your hair. You slide his underwear off a second later, your hand wrapping around his erection. Leaning down you swirl your tongue around his tip, taking him into your mouth a second later. He lets out a shuttering groan, his fingers grasping at your hair. “Holy shit,” he mutters.
You take him as far into your mouth as you can each time you bob your head up and down, suppressing your gags as your eyes well with tears from the sensation. You can feel the saliva building in your mouth, wrapping your hand around the base of his cock, the saliva dripping down onto your fingers. Moving your free hand to Quinn’s thigh you readjust on your knees, the hardwood floor below you is not particularly comfortable, but the quiet groans he’s making make it worth it.
A few minutes later Quinn pulls back and you wipe your lips with the back of your hand, staring up at him. “You’re so beautiful,” Quinn mutters, running his thumb along your bottom lip. He leans down to kiss you again, gentle and slow.
Pulling back Quinn opens the condom, sliding it on quickly. Scooting back on the bed you reach up, grabbing his hand and pulling him down on top of you. He kisses you passionately as he slides his hand between your legs, fingers brushing over your entrance before slowly pushing one finger inside you. He moves slowly at first, brushing up slightly, sliding another finger inside you a minute later, your moans growing in volume.
He pulls his hand back quickly, wrapping around his dick, sliding himself inside you. It’s slow at first, almost teasing as he watches you beneath him, moaning quietly. “Oh my god,” you whimper, your hands grasping onto his shoulders. “You feel so good inside me,” you whisper as he picks up the speed, each thrust sending waves of pleasure through your body.
Leaning up Quinn places his hands on the backs of your thighs, gently pushing your legs back further. Sliding your hand down you run your fingers over your clit, Quinn watching you for a moment as your moans grow in frequency. “Oh, fuck,” Quinn groans, tipping his head back to look up at the ceiling. “I’m close.”
Your fingers pick up speed when you hear Quinn say he’s close, bringing yourself to the brink of orgasm just a moment later. As your body is overtaken by the familiar tensing of your muscles you cry out in pleasure, your free hand wrapping around Quinn’s bicep, fingers digging into his arm.
Quinn finishes just a minute after you, groaning as his thrusts slow in pace, slowly pulling himself out of you. He leans down and kisses your forehead gently before pushing himself off the bed, heading towards the bathroom as he takes off the condom.
Laying on the bed you stare at the ceiling, trying your best to catch your breath. It had been awhile since you had sex in general but a very long time since you had sex that felt that good. Your hand rests on your bare torso, rising and falling with each heavy breath. You turn your head to the side when Quinn returns, tugging on a pair of underwear before sitting on the bed beside you. “How are you feeling?” he asks.
“Good,” you tell him with a giggle. “Really good.”
“Good,” Quinn echoes with a chuckle, leaning down to quickly peck your lips. “I’m going to get us some water, do you want anything else?”
Shaking your head you sit up, tugging your underwear back on. “No, just the water would be great.”
“I’ll be right back,” Quinn tells you, kissing your forehead again before leaving the bedroom.
Pulling the blankets back you slide under them, realizing just how tired you really were. Quinn returns a minute later, setting a glass of water on the nightstand beside you. He joins you in bed, reaching over and pulling you closer. His fingers brush against your back, your arm resting on his chest.
“Was tonight a date?” you whisper.
A soft breath of laughter leaves Quinn’s lips as he tips his head up to look at you. “Well I thought it was but that’s kind of embarrassing if you didn’t.”
Giggling you lift your head, looking up at him. “I didn’t know but that doesn’t mean I didn’t want it to be.” Rolling over you slide one leg over his body, straddling him as you lean in, your lips hovering over his. “We can call it a date but I don’t usually kiss on the first date and look at where tonight went,” you joke.
“Well I’m definitely looking forward to the second date then,” Quinn replies with a chuckle, his hands on your hips as he rolls you off of him to hover over you. “I’ll make sure you know it’s a date next time,” he says with a smirk, kissing you gently. “Get you some flowers or something.”
“Ooh,” you say with a giggle, running your fingers along his arm. “I love flowers.”
“I’ll get you all the flowers you ever want.”
“I didn’t expect you to be so romantic, Quinn,” you tease, leaning up to peck his cheek.
Quinn shrugs, settling onto the bed beside you. “I’m not normally.”
Rolling your eyes playfully you shake your head. “Okay…whatever you say.”
“I’m being serious,” Quinn assures you with a quiet laugh.
Turning your head your eyes meet with his and you realize he’s not joking. “Well please don’t stop, I like it.”
“I won’t,” Quinn promises, leaning over and kissing your forehead gently.
Smiling softly you curl in closer to Quinn, letting your eyes fall shut as you feel the steady rise and fall of his chest under your hand. It doesn’t take long for you fall asleep in his arms, feeling an overwhelming sense of contentment that extends into your dreams, lulling you into a deep sleep.
Your eyes flutter open the next morning, rolling onto your side in the dim bedroom, the blinds blocking out the early morning light. “Good morning,” you whisper when you watch Quinn’s eyes open, turning on his side to face you.
Quinn reaches over, brushing your hair behind your ear. “Morning,” he mumbles with a tired smile. “How’d you sleep?”
“Really good,” you whisper, unable to contain your own smile. “Did you sleep okay?” Rolling onto your stomach you move closer to him, resting your arm on his chest.
“Yes,” Quinn replies, his hand sliding down to rest on your lower back. “Was last night okay?”
“More than okay,” you assure him, drawing imaginary shapes on his chest with your fingertips. “What do you want to do today?” you ask him, knowing it was one of very few days where he wasn’t doing something for hockey.
Quinn shrugs, brushing his thumb along the skin of your lower back, sending a shiver of pleasure up your spine. “Anything as long as it’s with you.”
“What a coincidence…that’s also what I want to do today.”
You spend most of the morning in the apartment, not going more than a few minutes here and there without touching each other in some manner. Brief kisses here and there, a hand on your back, your arms wrapped around him. The afternoon brings you out of the apartment and into the streets of Vancouver, Quinn showing you around the rainy city.
You spend the rest of the week at Quinn’s apartment. Watching movies on the couch, making dinners, going to another one of his games, afternoons spent at his kitchen table working through projects your laptop. You spent a night alone there when he had a road game, curled up on the couch in one of his t-shirts, watching the game on the TV in his living room. Everything felt so comfortable, so normal. Like this was the life you were supposed to be living. Just you and Quinn in an apartment together.
But no matter how good it felt you knew it wasn’t going to last. You had to go home, had to get back to your job and the classes that you were barely keeping up with online. It didn’t matter how much you wanted to continue living in this blissful state with Quinn, it just wasn’t reasonable.
Your time in Vancouver had to come to an end, the time slipping by so much faster than normal. Before you knew it you didn’t have another day or even another night together.
You force a deep breath into your lungs, the lights in the airport feeling too bright, the air a little too cold, the bustling of people a little too loud. “Well,” you whisper, blinking quickly as you glance around, at anything and everything but Quinn. You were certain that if you looked at him a little too long you wouldn’t be able to keep it together. “I, um, I guess I should go…don’t want to miss my flight,” you mumble, though if you were being honest you wouldn’t be too upset if you did miss your flight.
Quinn nods, reaching over and pulling you into him. The two of you stand there in silence, neither one wanting to pull back, not wanting the inevitable to happen. “I’m going to miss you.”
Sniffling quietly you curl your fingers into his hoodie. “Me too,” you whisper, pulling back just enough to look up at him, your hands still on his arms. “Don’t get too busy that you can’t talk to me when I call,” you joke, a sad breath of laughter following. Reaching up you wipe away your tears as you take a small step back.
“Never,” Quinn assures you, a clear hesitation as he lets you go. “Have a good flight.”
“Thank you,” you whisper, slowly turning around and heading towards the security line. You don’t look back, didn’t want him to see the stream of tears that you had been holding in all morning running down your cheeks. You fight through your emotions till you're through security, finding yourself a seat to hide away from the rest of the world as the sleeves of your hoodie grow damp with the tears you’re wiping from your face.
Who would have thought that leaving on such great terms would be just as hard as leaving thinking you were never going to see him again.

It Wasn't Easy to be Happy for You
~It Wasn't Easy to Be Happy for You by The Lumineers~
Author's Note: pain stacking angst :) as always italics are flashbacks Summary: Luke gets broken up with and Jack is a good brother Warnings: cursing, cheating, sad!Luke Word Count: 1,493 Luke Hughes x fm!reader
Tumblr media
It had been three weeks since they had broken up. The days dragged on and the sunshine felt a bit cold as the days progressed. It wasn’t messy, there were no negative feelings towards one another. At least that’s what he told himself.
Luke was still madly in love with her. He woke up thinking about her, he went to bed thinking about her. He wanted to be with her. But life came in the way. He had to move to New Jersey and she stayed in Michigan.
But she ended things, for lack of better terms.
She sent the text five minutes ago asking if they could FaceTime. He had a feeling as to what it was about, which is why he was avoiding calling her. The girl he’s been with for almost two years, the person he thought he was going to marry. The person he was in love with despite being hundreds of miles away.
He clenched his jaw as he propped his phone up against the headboard of his bed. He scooted backwards running his fingers through his hair. Pulling his lips between his teeth he pressed her contact and began calling her.
It was a good night for Jack to be out with a few of the guys on the team. Luke was supposed to join them but this needed to come first.
She answered after four rings. Instead of being greeted with her usual wide smile, she was crying. He didn’t panic, he took a deep breath. “What’s going on, Love?” he asked as he ran his hand through his hair.
She shook her head as she wiped her hands over her cheeks, “Don’t call me that,” she said shaking her head, “I don’t deserve it,”
Luke furrowed his eyebrows as he licked his lips, “What do you mean?” he asked.
Y/N tilted her head back, wiping more tears leaving her eyes. She was glancing off of FaceTime as she took a deep breath. “We need to break up, Luke, I can’t do this anymore,”
His eyes widened as he scooted towards the phone as if he would be able to touch her through the screen. “I know the distance is hard, Baby but we can’t just give up on us,” he expressed, blinking his eyes rapidly, “Not after everything we’ve been through,” he said his voice cracking slightly as his spoke.
She shook her head as a sob left her throat, “Luke, I can’t say it, please don’t make me say it,” she let out.
“Say what, Y/N?” he pleated but she wouldn’t even look at her phone. He ran his tongue over his bottom lip as he nodded slowly as the idea popped into his head. The idea as to why she was in hysterics. He nodded as he clenched his jaw, “Did you-” he took a deep breath.
“God, Luke no! I would never!” she defended.
“Then what don’t you want to say? Y/N!” he begged.
“It’s awful, Luke,”
“If it’s awful I wanna hear it,” he said as rested his hands on his legs. He sniffled as he kept his gaze on his phone screen watching her body language.
She remained silent for a few seconds as she finally looked towards Luke through the phone screen. He was holding back every emotion he was feeling. Luke was always the strong one in the relationship, always keeping everything inside. She tilted her head back again as she swallowed hard.
“I think-I think I’m-” she took another deep shaky breath, “I love you, Luke, but I don’t think I’m in love with you anymore,” she said as she dropped her gaze towards her lap. She wiped her tears on her cheek.
He shut his eyes as he clenched his jaw hard. She was right, it was awful to hear.
“Is it-is it uh from the distance? I know we haven’t seen each other in months but-”
“I think it started that way but I don’t know, Luke, it’s just too much,” she let out. He nodded his head as he pressed his lips together hard.
“Okay,” he let out while nodding slowly, “Okay,” he let out again, his voice cracking.
“Luke,” she let out.
“No, it’s okay-” he cleared his throat as he took a hold of his phone and ended the call. He dropped his phone on the mattress as his eyes welled up in tears. He stood up from the bed desperate to take a shower and hide every emotion creeping through his body. The tears were desperate to leave his eyes.
While he stepped out of his bedroom, Jack was sitting on the couch. “Luke, you still want to come out with us? I’m leaving here in a-” Jack trailed off as he watched Luke wipe his hannds on his eyes, “Are you okay?” he questioned.
Luke clenched his jaw as he shook his head, he ran his hand over his chin. “Y/N broke up with me,” he let out his voice cracking.
“What? Seriously?” Jack asked, standing up from his seat on the couch.
It was the three longest weeks of his life. The only part of his life that wasn’t lacking was his hockey. Weirdly, the overwhelming feeling of heartbreak propelled his skills. He was frustrated and angry and it helped him play some of the best hockey of his life.
It was easier to be pissed off with his opponents instead of Y/N. He hated being angry with her.
But now, he was laying in a hotel room by himself staring at Y/N’s recent Instagram post. Her recent Instagram post with her new boyfriend. There were ten photos that he was able to stare at. Overanalyzing every detail of each photo. She was cozy, too cozy for only being together a few weeks.
He stared towards her smile and how different she looked only three weeks ago. They still followed each other, so she knew he was going to see it. It was as if she did it on purpose. He took a deep breath as he stared towards the way his lips were pressing against her jawline. Just like he used to.
His eyes scanned the caption multiple times, it was lyrics from a Taylor Swift song he didn’t know.
He swiped towards her next photo seeing it during a concert she had gone to about a month before they broke up. They were posing together, his hand draped along her lower back, his lips pressed against her neck.
He’s looked at the photo multiple times but it only just clicked. They were still together when that photo was taken. They were still together when he was touching her like that. They were still together and she lied. She lied.
“Fuck,” he muttered as there was loud knocks slamming against his hotel door. He groaned as he tossed his phone onto the mattress before he walked towards the door. He pulled it open as he walked away at the same time.
“Did you open Instagram?” Jack asked as he shoved his way into the hotel room.
“Yup,” he said plainly as he started pacing in the small hotel room.
“You’re spiralling,” Jack let out simply.
“Not spiralling,” he fought back as he took a hold of his phone and threw it across the hotel room. It hit the front door and fell to the ground. Luke didn’t care if there was any damage to it.
“Dude,” Jack said as he watched Luke reach for his jacket and beanie that were lying on the chair beside his bed.
Luke stopped short right at the chair as he looked towards Jack.
“She was fucking cheating on me and fucking lied to me about it! She looked at me and lied!” he shouted as he began to put on his jacket and his beanie.
“What are you doing?” Jack asked as he tried to pull Luke back towards him. Luke pulled his arm away as he continued towards the door.
“Going on a walk,” he muttered as he walked towards the door.
“No, dude-”
“I was trying to be happy for her! She wanted out! I didn’t argue it! Everything that I have ever wanted for her was for her to be happy!” he shouted, his eyes welling up in tears.
“If being happy is being with someone else, I could fucking accept that! I can’t fucking accept the fact that she was doing it while I was hundreds of miles away! I can’t just sit here and let her flaunt the guy she cheated on me with!” Luke shouted, staring into Jack’s eyes.
Jack nodded his head, “Alright,” he muttered, “Let’s get my jacket and we can go,” Jack said as he walked closer to Luke.
“I don’t need you to go with me,”
“I know but you’ve never been to Seattle, let me show you around,” Jack offered giving him a sympathetic smile.

can we have a little sneak about each of the boys and jealousy with angel
warnings: language, jealousy, mentions of sex/sexual activities
“oh,” she says before she can stop herself, eyes scanning over the notification. she thinks maybe she had said it quietly enough where it had gone unnoticed by the boys that she was sandwiched between, but she was wrong.
jack moves his head from where it had been resting on her stomach for the better part of an hour as she had corralled them onto the sofa to watch the great gatsby, “what’s wrong?”
“nothing, jacky. look, you’re missing the good part,” she tries to turn his head back to face the tv, but he quickly moves and lifts himself up on his elbows, “i’m serious-”
“you’re being weird.”
“he’s right,” luke chimes from where he was propped on her behind, a pillow in between his head and her ass because she swore he’d have a sore neck in the morning from his position. with a sigh, he pauses the movie and pushes himself up to look at her, “what happened?”
“nothing happened, you two. i-” their gazes that silently told her ‘cut the bullshit’ causes her to close her mouth and look down at her lap. she finds a loose thread on the t-shirt she had stolen from jack’s clean laundry and tugs on it, muttering under her breath. there’s a pinch to her thigh, a warning from luke (and a reminder to curse quinn about teaching the youngest his ways) and she frowns, “um, one of- one of quinn’s teammates just sent me an instagram dm. it’s fine-”
“let me see it,” jack demands and she hesitates before grabbing her phone, pulling up the message and handing it off. he rests a hand on her crossed legs as he takes his time reading the message before scoffing, “oh, that’s hilarious.”
“my turn,” luke snatches the phone from his brother and she takes her lip between her teeth as she awaits his reaction, “‘i can’t remember if i told you, but you looked beautiful last week. we should hang out the next time you’re visiting if you’re down?’ the fuck? is this how people flirt?”
“you slid into my dms,” she points out and luke sends her a glance, “but yours was better than that.”
“obviously because here you are, but back to our current situation,” jack points a finger at the phone, “who is he and why is he messaging you?”
“kids these days,” luke mumbles like he wasn’t much older than the culprit.
“we were talking when i went with quinn to the canuck’s charity thing for like, five minutes max. i didn’t think it was that big of a deal,” she explains. she watches as jack stares, nods, then reaches for his phone. her eyes go wide, “what’re you-”
“i have to call quinn.”
“please don’t,” she pleads and the line starts to trill once, twice, and then,
“hel-”
“one of your rookies just slid in angel’s dms,” jack interrupts and she swears she hears quinn’s phone clatter to the ground.
“they did what in her where?” he asks after a moment of rustling on his end. “who? what did they say?”
“one of your call-ups thought she looked really beautiful at your little gala last week and wanted to know if she’d be willing to go out next time that she was in town,” luke has a smirk on his lips as he relays the message that they all had scanned over by this point, “because apparently the q around her wrist doesn’t mean much to you?”
“okay, fuck you,” quinn spits, “angel, can you hear me?”
“hi quinny,” she starts nervously playing with jack’s hair now that the oldest’s attention is on her.
quinn sighs, “did he say anything to you?”
“i mean, we were talking while you were doing your captain things, but i was friendly! i’m always friendly, you guys know that-”
“we’re not blaming you, angel-”
“just some people don’t know the difference between flirty and friendly. i introduced her as my date,” quinn defends himself, though he didn’t have to. jack and luke just liked to make their brother squirm whenever the opportunity presented itself. “i’m sorry that i can keep it in my pants and don’t parade her around public functions covered in hickies or with my cum running down her leg.”
“there was that one time-”
“please,” she pleads, clenching her legs at the thought. jack and luke share a smirk before jack gently pats her leg. she huffs, “just- block him, luke. i won’t even respond to him and that can be the end of it.”
“oh, i’ll be saying something, angel. then that can be the end of it,” quinn says and she can hear the annoyance in his tone at the mere prospect of the pending conversation.
“quinny-”
“what are you all doing?”
and it wasn’t ten minutes after they hung up the phone and got back to their movie that she got another instagram notification. her stomach drops as she sees quinn had tagged her in a story and when she clicks it, she feels a small grin grace her lips. it was a picture brock’s girlfriend had taken of the two of them and while both of their heads were conveniently clipped off at the top, her back and dress were still very visible. just as visible as the hand quinn had on her ass, much too low to be considered friendly.
and that was that.

Solomon was a patient man.
He kept mostly to himself whilst at RAD, stealing glances your way in the subtlest of fashions whenever you might have happened to share a class, purposefully brushing his hand against yours after he asks you to hand him something, sending a playful wink in your direction when nobody was looking.
He was not one to enjoy answering incessant questions about himself and his personal affairs, and with how quickly rumours spread at RAD (usually thanks to Asmodeus’s natural ability to never be able to keep his mouth shut when he sees an inkling of a relationship between any two individuals), Solomon knew that the two of you would not be immune to being the center of demon-gossip around the school.
Whenever he would find himself at the House of Lamentation (which was quite often, seeing as you frequented there nearly every day and he took it upon himself to walk you back to Cocytus Hall after a long day spent being an attendant to the brothers), he let himself be a little more lax around you; lingering touches and innuendos did not go unnoticed by the brothers, nor did they fail to tell you just how much disdain they held for the sorcerer, always when he just happened to be in earshot.
Solomon cared naught for the contempt the brothers held for him, whether they voiced so or not—he always lurked around corners just long enough to hear you defend him.
He did not let his resolve crack around the brothers, not even around Simeon and Luke—despite how unnecessarily handsy everyone was with you, at the end of the day in Cocytus Hall when you were pressed up against Solomon with greedy lips roaming your body, he made sure you knew exactly who you belonged to.
“Solomon,” you moaned, arching your back as he pounded into your aching cunt. His hands moved from your hips to your throat, pulling you up so that your back met his chest, both of your bodies coated in a thin sheen of sweat.
“They can’t make you feel like this, can they?” he said breathily into your ear, kissing the spot just below it on your neck. “Those…those brothers think they know you better than I do, but they don’t, do they? Not when I have you like this, hm?” His hand moved slowly down your stomach to tease your clit, his other hand moving up and down the column of your neck slowly as you shook your head fervently, eyes squeezed shut in ecstasy.
“Use your words,” he encouraged, voice low and sultry as he slowed the movements of both his hips and his fingers, the change of pace prompting you to whine his name in protest.
“N-no,” you stuttered, desperately clenching around his cock, the constriction forcing his breath to catch in his throat.
“No, what?” he managed before his lips returned to your neck, biting gently on the places he knew would drive you insane—he knew, nobody else did. “You can do better than that.”
“Th-they can’t make me feel like this—please, Solomon,” you begged, a smirk tugging at his lips at your affirmation as he picked up the pace once again, the tips of his fingers brushing against your clit with just enough pressure to elicit a wanton moan from your lips.
“That’s my girl,” he praised, eyes fluttering shut as he kissed the skin of your neck with more urgency; his girl—you were his, and he was yours.
Solomon was patient, yes—he would hold his composure around others, ignoring (but not overlooking) the way the brothers’ eyes lingered on you when you turned your back to them, the whispers of you amongst the students at RAD, the apprentice of the strongest (and only) human sorcerer in the Devildom. He was patient because, at the end of it all, nobody knew you like he did—your secrets, your troubles, your body, you laid it all bare for him, nobody else.
Solomon relished in the fact that, no matter how desperately anybody else wanted you, they’d never get to have you—you’d chosen him over everybody else, and although he’d sometimes glance at the faded pact marks on your skin with disdain, they meant little to him when he knew that he was the only one who could have you under him in such a manner. His was the name that would be the first you’d utter in the early morning when you’d whine about having to wake up so early and beg for five more minutes with him, and his was the name that would be the last to leave your lips at the end of the night when the moon would shine brightly on your skin through his window, illuminating you so beautifully for only his eyes to see.
“I love you,” he breathed against your skin, your chests rising and falling in sync before he caught your lips in a kiss, much gentler than he had been with you a moment ago.
“I love you too,” you whispered, and Solomon felt peace knowing that his would be the only ears to hear you utter those words in the three realms. Not any angel, not any demon, and not any other human—it was just him and you.

"If you weren't my sibling you'd be my best friend." "I can most definitely be both?" "Nah."
hughes sister saying that to jack and being like he can’t be my brother and best friend because that’s already luke
I was waiting for this one!! I hope you like it!!
••
Jack wasn't the only middle child in the Hughes family, but he most definitely suffered from Middle Child Syndrome the most. Quinn was busy hanging out with his friends, and his younger two siblings always seemed to leave him out, whether that be on purpose or not was up for debate. Sometimes he just felt forgotten.
The truth is that Luke was like your child growing up. When he was a baby, he was basically a living babydoll. You dressed him up, helped feed him, bathe him, the whole ordeal. When he was old enough to walk, the trouble that the two of you got into was endless. He made sure that when he started to get serious about hockey that you didn't feel left out, always prioritizing your once a week gossip session that took place in your room as you did your skincare routine on you and him while catching him up with what's going on in your life.
The whole Hughes family knew the routine, no interrupting the gossip session, but Jack couldn't help but eaves drop on what you were telling Luke.
"...so I'm standing there, actually watching this dude lie straight through his teeth, telling me that he didn't try to hook up with my friend. Did he think she wouldn't send me the screenshots? I mean seriously..." Jack could hear through the rather thin walls from the place where he was standing in the hallway.
He was about to head to his room, but just as he was passing your bedroom door it opened, like a scene straight out of a movie, hitting him smack dab in the middle of his face.
"Dude this is sad. Are you this desperate to try to be in our circle?" Luke patted his brother on the shoulder as you got closer to the scene.
You and Luke communicated in almost a telepathic way, passing a glance that said it would be ok if Jack joined just this once.
"Come on you idiot," You took his arm and pull him into your room.
He looked between you and Luke, noticing some sort of mask covering both of your faces.
"What the fuck is on your face," Jack laughed as he started to pay attention to his younger brother.
"Don't knock it until you try it," He replied, sipping on a glass of water.
"So what brings you here today," You piped up, curious as to why your older brother was all of a sudden interested in your gossip day with Luke.
"I heard you talking about a boy," Admittedly, he knew it was kind of weird to be listening in on his little sister's love life, but he liked to think that they could be close enough to fill each other in on important information.
He noticed that you were preparing something, and then saw that you were coming towards him with whatever was already on Luke's face.
"No way in hell is that going on my face," He tried to defend himself, but Luke holding his arms behind his back revealed that there was no point in trying.
"If you want to be in on the gossip, you can't skip skincare," You said, applying the mask evenly over Jack's face.
"So you heard what I was saying?" You asked, biting your tongue and concentrating on not making a mess on your floor.
"Mhm," Jack hummed.
"Any advice?" You were actually curious about what he had to say considering he could be the type of dude to do some stupid shit like you had experienced.
"Don't give him the time of day. Know your worth. I mean you got some pretty badass brothers, so you shouldn't expect anything less from a guy," He advised, his eyes closed trying to avoid getting anything in them.
"I think that's why I keep getting disappointed. I mean, not counting Jack, you and Quinn set the bar high for expectations from a guy," Your comment is directed at Luke, but you give Jack a cheeky glance.
"Hey! I'm sitting right here..." He feigned hurt, his hand covering his heart to add to the dramatics.
"No, but seriously. Mom and Dad didn't raise you to settle. Don't compromise your standards for a guy that isn't worth it." Jack's advice was filled with love, something that he wasn't very serious about most of the time, especially with his siblings. They all loved each other, but they rarely expressed it through words.
"Thanks, Jack. You know, if you weren't my sibling you'd be my best friend," You passed him one of your headbands so that he would stop fidgeting and pushing his hair back with his fingers.
"I can most definitely be both?" He furrowed his eyebrows, confused on how he can only qualify for the sibling portion of your comment.
"Nah," Luke piped in, scrolling through his social media on his phone.
"And why's that," Jack questioned, watching as his two younger siblings began to look at each other.
"Listen, Jack. Bud. I love you, but as you can see my best friend slot is kind of filled by Luke. We do love you, though!" You called after him as he began to leave your room.
"Where are you going?" Luke called to Jack right behind you.
"To look for someone to fill my best friend slot since you two obviously have no availability!"
As if on cue, Quinn walked through the living room door, almost hitting Jack again.
"Watch where you're go-" He began, but as soon as he saw what was on his brother's face he folded over laughing.
"What is on your face?" Quinn asked between breaths, trying to hold his composure.
Jack flipped him off, but turned to the two younger siblings that were hanging out of your bedroom doorway.
"I'm sure Quinn would love to be my best friend," Jack narrowed his eyes at you, causing you to giggle.
"Not with whatever is on your face," Quinn chuckled and ruffled Jack's hair.
"I hate you all," Jack rolled his eyes as he made his way to his room.
Although he said it, he'd never mean it. Even if Luke was your so-called best friend, at the end of the day you all knew that it was the four of you against the world. You all would do anything for each other with no questions asked. The four of you may be dispersed across the country at any given point, but eventually you all would find your way home to each other.
“I’ll be your best friend, Jacky Boy,” Quinn knocked on Jack’s door, a suppressed laugh threatening to spill.
“Fuck off,” Jack threw back.

Visenya
Her brothers woke her in a panic, pulling her out of bed and dragging her through the halls of Driftmark, claiming Vhagar had been stolen.
“You can’t steal a dragon” she yawned, wiping at her eyes, confused as to what they meant.
“but she was mine to claim, someone stole my right!” Rhaena whined. of course, cloaking him, she hoped it was Aemond, though she would admit Rhaena should have been able to attempt to claim her, but if it was Aemond that truly claimed her she could find no fault in it.
“dragons aren’t inherited Rhaena, anyone could claim Vhagar, not just you” Visenya spoke, her tone harsher than she meant “I’m going back to bed” she went to turn back but luke jumped in front of her, his best puppy eyes on display
“Senya, please, what if it’s a bad guy, we need your help” Luke begged.
“fine” she sighed in defeat, she had her dagger she supposed if someone had  actually taken Vhagar she could defend them, though she saw no point of this escapade.
Vhagar roared as she landed, her new rider, a beacon of silver in the night sky, climbing down her rope.
“it’s him” spoke Jace.
it was Aemond, just as she hoped. His face was smug, his walk confident. he was like a whole new person.
“Aemond?” she questioned softly, rubbing up to him, “you claimed her?”
his eyes glimmered as he looked at her, a true smile gracing his lips. He wasn’t a new person, he was still her Aemond.
“Vhagar is my mother's dragon” Rhaena stated.
“your mothers dead” he replied, scowling. “and Vhagar has a new rider now.”
“Aemond” she chined, elbowing him softly.
“she was mine to claim” Rhaena declared.
“Vhagar choose her rider, if Aemond weren’t meant to claim her then she wouldn’t have allowed him to claim her” Visneya reasoned, trying to calm the group, though it was all for nought as shouts of protest were heard from the twins.
Aemond moved forward,  placing her behind him “Then you should've claimed her!” he looked at Jace and Luke then back to Rhaena, “ Maybe your cousins can find you a pig to ride… It would suit you.”
Baela launched herself at Aemond, before being pushed off. “come at me again, and I’ll feed you to Dragon”
The next few moments were filled with yells and screams as her brothers and cousins attacked Aemond.
“stop!” Visenya demanded, moving to pull Baela off of Aemond, only to be elbowed and pushed against a rock.
“Senya!” Aemond and Jace screamed, the attack coming to a halt.
“it’s ok,” she tried to reassure, rubbing her head as she sat up “just stop fighting, it will not give Rhaena a dragon, nor will it take Aemonds away from him!”
“he stole Vhagar, she was mine to claim!” Rhaena once again insisted.
“yeah, yeah we get it ok! just stop this fighting!… please”
Baela turned to look at her, sighing as if ready to coincide before looking at Aemond. his hand rested behind Visenya's back, his face still smug.
she charged at him again, pushing him away from Visneya and to the ground. Jace followed punching him in the face before shoving them away.
she wasn’t sure what would happend next, her head pushing too hard, liquid filling her ears. the words flame and bastard sounded, her brother Jace in Aemonds hold, a rock to his head.
“no stop!” she screamed, crawling over, unable to find balance, her dagger falling from her pocket as she pulled Jace away.
Luke grabbed her dagger and dived at Aemond, Visneya despite the fact her blurred vision, she managed to jump in front of Aemond, the dagger driving through his eye and the side of her neck.
After that, it all went black.
The hall was tense as a maester worked with Aemond and Visneya.
No one dared to speak.
Several maesters cared for Visenya, her neck seeping in blood, her body still unconscious, and her brothers crying beside her. Luke begging for her to be alright.
Aemond had insisted on being as close to her as possible, refusing to let go of her hand, and only doing so when it became apparent it was interfering with the maesters work.
“How could you allow such as thing to happen?” Viserys demanded, furious “I will have answers”
“The princes and princess were supposed to be abed, my king” Ser Harold spoke
“Who had to watch” Viserys demanded
“The young prince was attacked by his cousins, your grace, and the princess by her brothers,” Ser Criston remarked
Outraged with these responses Viserys shouted “you swore oaths to protect and defend my blood”
“I’m very sorry, your grace,” Ser Harrold told him
“The king's guard has never had to defend princes from princes, your grace” Ser Criston spoke
The hall was quiet, the fury of the king growing. His granddaughter lay on the table, unconscious as blood seeped out of her neck, the Maesters still trying to locate the bleeding.
“That is no answer!” Viserys spat
“It will heal, will it not maester?” Alicent asked she knew that the eye would be lost, but she still had hoped the seven would be merciful.
Solemnly the maester replied “the flesh will heal, but the eye is lost, your grace”
Nodding, a tear falling from her eye, she looked towards Visenya “what of the princess maester?”
Giving a small sad smile the lead maester working on Visenya stepped back to look at the king and queen, “we cannot tell yet your grace, we cannot seem to locate the bleeding and until we do, we cannot say”
Letting out an anguished cry Alicent moved to Aegon slapping him “where were you?”
Recoiling away Aegon spoke “me? Ow! What was that for?” he complained, almost ashamed. He had been getting drunk whilst his brother and niece suffered, that was enough to sober him. He worried the sight would make him burst in tears.
Alicent sneered “that was nothing compared to the abuse your brother and niece suffered while you were drowning in your cups” looking down ashamed, all Aegon could do was whisper a small as sorry.
“Where is Rhaenyra, her daughter has suffered a grave injury at the hands of her sons… where is Rhaenyra!” Alicent demanded to the room. The people equally confused as to where the princess was, remained silent.
Lord Corlys and princess Rhaenys entered the hall, demanding what had happened “what is the meaning of this”
Princess Rhaenys quickly went to her granddaughters, before catching sight of Visneay on the table, a small cry leaving her lips “what has happened?” she demanded. “What has happened to my granddaughter” the silence once more filled the room, as no one could answer.
Rhaenyra and Daemon were the last to enter the room, Daemon smug and nonchalant, Rhaenyra confused and guilty. She was quick to tun to her sons, not even bothering to look for her daughter. “what happened? Jace, Luke? Show me, show me!” taking Luke’s face in her hands she asked, “where is your sister?” both boys looked down before pointing to the table surrounded by maesters.
“Oh, my sweet girl” Rhaenyra cried taking Rhaenys place next to her daughter, as Rheanys moved to her Beala and Rheana.
“They attacked us!” Aemond spat, causing the other children to being shouting contrasting statements.
“He attacked Baela”
“He broke Luke’s nose!”
“He stole my mother’s dragon!”
“ENOUGH” Viserys demanded, his confusion only increasing at the children's ranting,
“He was going to kill Jace!” Luke shouted
“I didn’t do anything! And you’re the one who attacked Visenya!” Aemond shot back, furious, she was defending him from their attack, they were to blame not him. He had lost his eye, his Visenya was wounded and unconscious.
“Enough!” Viserys demanded, once again.
Rhaenyra had made her way back to her sons, allowing the Maesters their space to work, as they finally located the bleeding.
“It should be my son telling the tale” Alicent demanded.
Luke whispered what was said to his mother “he called us bastards”
Hitting his cane on the ground Viserys demanded once again “silence” moving to look at Aemond he demanded the truth “Aemond, I will have the truth of what happened, now!”
“What else is there to hear? Your son and granddaughter maimed…Her son is responsible”
“It was a regrettable accident” Rhaenyra spoke, she didn’t want to believe what Luke had done, let alone to his sister.
“The prince Lucerys brought a blade to an ambush. He meant to kill my son, he might yet have killed your daughter” Alicent spoke viciously, how could Rhaenyra defend her sons after what they did to her daughter, to Aemond?
“It was my sons who were attacked and forced to defend themselves… Vile insults were levied against them” Rhaenyra declared
“What insults?” Viserys asked
Hesitating, knowing it was the unspoken truth, Rhaenyra replied “the legitimacy of my son’s birth was put loudly to the question”
“What?”
Speaking up, Luke has a tremor in his voice as he casts a look at his sister, guilt filling his body “he called us bastards”
“My sons are in line to inherit the iron throne, your grace. This is the highest of treasons…. Prince Aemond must be Sharpley questioned so we might learn where he heard such slanders” Rhaenyra spoke
In disbelief at Rhaenyra’s audacity, Alicent spoke “over an insult? My son has lost an eye! What of your daughter what is your sons’ excuses for her!?” she demanded, looking over to Visenya, the Maesters had finally stopped the bleeding, but she was yet to wake.
“You tell me boy, where did you hear this lie?” Viserys demanded, he knew the truth, he was not blind, he knew they were not Laenor’s and guilt filled him that he did not give his daughter a husband who could give her more than one child, even that he doubted, that she had to look elsewhere.
Worried, everyone knew it was Alicent who spread the rumours “this insult was training yard bluster, it was nothing”
Ignoring his wife, Viserys asked again “Aemond, I asked you a question!”
Interrupting again Alicent asked “where is Ser Laenor, I wonder? The children’s father? Perhaps he might have something to say on the matter.”
“Yes, where is Ser Laenor?”
Rhaenyra admitted, “I do not know, your grace, I could not find sleep, I had gone on a walk.”
Alicent rolled her eyes and muttered “entertaining his young squires, I would venture”
Asking again, Viserys spoke “Aemond, look at me. Your king demands answer. Who spoke these lies to you?”
Aemond shifted his gaze to his mother, “It was Aegon” he answered. He would not sell out his mother, even if they all knew it was really her.
“Me?” Aegon asked confused, he did not care nor ever mention if they were bastards. He was rather fond of Luke and Jace, they often had fun together. He could care less about their parentage.
“And you, boy? Where did you hear such calumnies?” Viserys spat “Aegon! Tell me the truth of it!”
Giving up, with a sigh Aegon spoke “We know, father. Everyone knows. Just look at them”
“This interminable infighting must cease! All of you! We are family! Now make your apologies and show goodwill to one another. Your father, your grandsire, your king demands it.” Viserys spoke.
“That is insufficient. Aemond has been damaged, permanently, Visenya who knows if she will wake. ‘Good will’ cannot make Aemond whole” Alicent spat
“I know Alicent, but I cannot restore an eye,” Viserys said with a deep sigh, he looked to Visenya. Her face was terribly pale, her neck was being wrapped and her head stitched.
“No, because it’s been taken!”
“What would you have me do?”
“There is a debt to be paid. I shall have one of her son’s eyes in return” Alicent declared, gasps filling the hall.
“My dear wife-”
Her eyes watered, her son, their sons’ eye had been taken and he does not seem to care “he is your son, Viserys. Your blood”
“Do not allow your temper to guide your judgment” Viserys warned
“If the king will not seek justice, the queen will. Ser Criston… Bring me the eye of Lucerys Velaryon.” Alicent ordered.
Luke let out a nervous shout for his mother, moving to hide behind her.
“he can choose which eye to keep, a privilege he did not grant my son” Alicent spoke, Ser Criston stared down at her, unsure of what to do.
Speaking to Criston Viserys demanded “you will do no such thing… Stay your hand”
“no, you are sworn to me!” she shouted at Ser Criston, as he stood unsurely “As your protector, my queen.”
“This matter is finished, do you understand?” Viserys spoke to Alicent, moving away before declaring “and let it be known, anyone whose tongue dares to question the birth of Princess Rhaenyra’s sons should have it removed!”
“Thank you, father” Rhaenyra spoke, Alicent enraged moved towards Viserys grabbing his dagger and charging at Rhaenyra and her sons.
Shouts filled the hall, trying to get Alicent to stop, but she continued.
“you’ve gone too far” Rhaneyra spoke, grabbing Alicents arm, preventing the dagger from diving into her son's eye.
“i? what have I done but what expected of me? Forever upholding the kingdom, the family, the law. While you flout all to do as you, please” Alicent spat in reply. “Where is duty? Where is sacrifice? And now you take my son's eye, and to that event, you feel entitled”
“Exhausting, wasn’t it? Hiding beneath the cloak of your own righteousness” Rhaenyra replied, seeing Alicent face drop and her grip on the blade began to loosen. “But now they see you as you truly are,” she said lowly, the dagger slipped from Alicent’s hand, down Rhaenyra's arm, blood dripping to the ground.
“This proceeding is at an end” Viserys declared.

Surprising the devil
Luke Hughes x Reader || mostly fluff
summary: you surprise Luke in nj after his first ever nhl game and he can’t keep his hands off you.
author’s note: i didnt even look over this once after finishing it so hopefully it makes sense. let me know what u think i appreciate it. ok love you bye.
word count: 1.2k
-
You and Jack had decided to surprise Luke by flying you out to Jersey to meet him at Jack’s apartment after his first ever game with the devils.
It had been a few weeks since you had last seen Luke, him being super busy with hockey and you with exams.
You were currently finishing up your second semester and Luke knew how busy you had been recently, studying and preparing for your exams.
Unknowingly to Luke though, you had a two week break in between finals - the perfect time to spend with your boyfriend who recently moved an hour plane ride away.
After arriving at Jack’s place around 10pm, you punch in the code to the door, praying you remember it from the last time you stayed in Jersey.
You unlock it after a couple of attempts and run to drop your bags in Luke’s room, quickly flopping yourself in the bed as soon as you kick off your shoes.
You knew you had a couple of hours before Luke and Jack return from the game, so you get up to shower and change from your gross travel clothes.
After your shower you go to check your phone and you see a text from Jack.
Jack Jack: we’ll b back around 11, lukey is clueless about the surprise so he’s taking his goddamn time in the shower.
You reply to his message, giggling to yourself and start tidying up your things before they arrive.
A while later you hear the sound of Jack unlocking the front door and you quickly make your way into Luke’s room so he is surprised when he opens his bedroom door.
“why the fuck are you looking at me like that?” you hear Luke in the hallway talking to Jack. “like what?” Jack retorts, laughing, and Luke opens his bedroom door slowly and cautiously.
“surprise baby!” you say as Luke stares at you in awe before dropping his things and running towards you to give you a big hug. He lifts you up in his arms and spins you around before placing you on your feet and connecting his lips on yours.
Luke steps back from your body and just stares at you in disbelief. “what the hell?!” he questions as excitement fills his face. You just laugh at his reaction and go in for another hug, allowing him to take in what is really happening.
“you asshole!” Luke turns his head around to face his brother, who is just standing in the doorway of Luke’s bedroom, happily watching our little reunion.
“you saw how upset I was last night and you didn’t tell me about this!?”
“how am I an asshole?! …you should be happy! - this whole thing was my idea!” Jack quips back, slightly exaggerating the whole ‘his idea’ thing.
“last night?” you question, not knowing anything about Luke being upset.
“oh your little boyfriend missed you so much that he showed up to my room crying at 2am.” Jack confidently informs you through laughter, but cowers suddenly as Luke reaches over and smacks the hat on Jack’s head.
“shut up. I wasn’t even crying…" Luke shakes his head, “god, do you ever keep anything to yourself?” He defends.
“hey, you’re the one that brought it up..” Jack jokingly adds with his hands up as he retreats back to the living room, leaving you and Luke alone in his room.
Luke walks over to close the door behind his brother, locking it and turning around to face you.
“hi lukey..” you say finally as you hold out your hand for Luke to take. He steps forward, walking towards you and takes both of your hands in his.
“i missed you so much baby..” Luke says before placing a soft kiss against your lips. You deepen the kiss, as you let go of his hands and place yours on both sides of his face, happy to finally have him back in your touch.
“now tell me all abou-” you start to say, but are cut off by Luke’s lips crashing onto yours again.
“in a m-minute..” Luke replies in between kisses.
He slowly walks you backwards and gently sets you on his bed, still connected to you by the lips.
Luke eagerly moves from your lips to the side of your neck, gently trailing kisses further and further down, until he reaches your collarbone.
A quiet moan leaves your mouth as Luke picks a spot on the base of your neck, leaving presumably noticeable marks.
He moves his left hand from your hip, down to the underneath of your thigh, and pulls you further up on the bed so that your head rests on the pillow.
“m-missed you so much lukey..” you say rushing your words out “wanna hear all about tonigh-” you hardly get your words out before he attaches his lips to yours again and you part your lips slightly, allowing his tongue access.
Luke proceeds to deepen the kiss, passionately pressing harder on your lips, and you moan out almost too loudly at the sudden heavy shift.
“..mm-do you think you can be quiet for me?” Luke asks invitingly after disconnecting his lips from yours. But you hear sounds coming from the living room and are pulled out of your state of bliss, remembering Jack is in the next room.
“no…” you say with honesty and Luke just chuckles and sits up to move beside you on his bed.
As much as you wanted Luke right now, you knew you'd never hear the end of the story if Jack heard what was going on in his little brother's room, only minutes after the two of you met up.
“well, I guess we should go hang out with jacky, he gets pissy if he’s left alone for too long.” Luke sighs dramatically, making you giggle.
“guys come watch quinny’s game!” Jack yells out to us from the living room, right on queue.
You walk out of Luke’s room hand in hand, Jack looking up at you two from his spot on the couch as you enter the room.
“oh thank god I don’t have to listen to that anymore..PLEASE don’t make me go through that ever again.”
“oh zip it.” Luke counters back and you just blush embarrassingly standing slightly behind him to hide your face.
You and Luke sit down beside Jack on the couch to start watching Quinn’s game and they immediately ignore you and begin talking to each other about Quinn and how well he was playing tonight.
“guuuyys I’ve been here for almost an hour and NEITHER of you have said anything about your game? Can you please fill me in?!” you finally say, cutting them both off mid conversation.
“Well it’s about time you asked!”
“Yeah, I can’t believe you didn’t even ask us yet. How dare you...” Luke replied sarcastically, shaking his head slowly at you and you just stared at him in disbelief.
“Well maybe if you could keep your paws off me for, i don’t know, five seconds? I could have the chance to really ask.” You snap back proudly and watch Jack’s face slightly contort at your words, not wanting to picture what you and his little brother were doing in the room beside him.
Luke just hushes you jokingly and continues his clueless act.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Yeah ok loverboy..”

PDA — LUKE HUGHES
luke hughes x fem!reader
FAITHLYNN'S 500 CELLY!
🌷: “Please just kiss me already.” with Luke.
Tumblr media
“you guys are disgusting.”
my boyfriend and i are sprawled across the couch; Luke laid down on his back, and me laid down on my stomach on top of him between his legs. Luke and i separate our lips, looking over to Ethan and Mark who stand in the living room entryway.
“you’re just jealous that you don’t have anyone to be like this with.” Luke taunts, tightening his grip around me, letting his hand slide down to rest on my ass.
“no.” Ethan tells him. “i’m disgusted because you guys can never keep your hands off each other.”
“can you blame me? look at her!” my boyfriend exclaims. “actually, don’t look at her.”
“i wasn’t gonna look at her anyways.” Ethan states, flopping down into the armchair a few feet away.
“what is that supposed to mean?” i ask, purely intending to make him flustered. “am i not pretty, E?”
his eyes grow wide, his lips opening and closing like a fish.
“no! i- uh i mean yes! er-” he stutters over his words, not sure of how to respond, and Luke bites back a laugh.
“she’s fucking with you, bro.” Mark chuckles, slapping Ethan on the shoulder as he passes by the armchair, taking a seat at the opposite of the couch from Luke and i. Ethan looks at me, finding me red faced from holding in laughter.
“you’re mean.” Ethan counters me with a glare.
“she’s an angel.” Luke defends me, pressing a kiss to my lips once again.
“thank you, baby.” i mumble against his lips.
“Ethan’s right, you guys are disgusting.” i pull away to glance at Mark, who watches us with a wrinkled nose and a frown.
“we are not!” i rebut.
“ya know what? i dare you guys to see who can go the longest without kissing the other!” Ethan nearly shouts. Luke and i exchange a glance before i send Ethan a side eye.
“why would we do that?” i ask him.
“because i’ll give the winner a hundred dollars.” he tells me. Luke and i give each other another glance, making our decision.
“okay.” Luke says.
“okay?” Ethan repeats.
“okay.” Luke confirms. “it’s just not kissing. it can’t be that hard.”
**
it’s hard. it’s much harder than i think we assumed it would be. i didn’t anticipate the amount of times we would lean in to give our normal every day kisses before remembering we weren’t allowed. it’s only been one day and it feels like torture.
“i don’t like this.” i pout for the third time today.
“i know you don’t.” Luke chuckles, running a hand over my hair from where my head rests on his chest. we’re laying in his bed, cuddled up together before his game.
“it sucks.” i tell him. “i didn’t get my good morning kiss.”
“or your mid-afternoon kiss.” he reminds me. before i can speak, the bedroom door swings open, revealing Dylan.
“hurry up and get ready, we have 20 minutes.” he tells us before walking away, leaving the bedroom door wide open behind him. i groan, clinging to Luke a little tighter.
“baby, i have to get ready.” he coos, attempting to peel my arms off of him.
“you won’t get your good luck kiss.” i frown. that statement makes him freeze. i’ve come to learn that some hockey players are very superstitious. Luke being one of them. he genuinely believes that if he gives me a kiss before he leaves sophomore house every game day, they’ll win. it’s worked so far, so i can’t really blame him.
“shit.” he curses. he hums as he gets up from the bed, trying to think of a solution. i watch him with curious eyes while he gets ready, changing into his arrival outfit and making sure he has all his gear in his bag.
and i follow silently as he sulks down the stairs to the other boys who are waiting for us by the front door.
“i’ll see you at Yost?” his hands grip my waist, mine winding around his neck.
“yeah, i’ll be there.” he nods at my confirmation before we pull apart, him heading towards the door.
“aren’t you forgetting something?” Ethan teases, a smirk drawn across the lower half of his face.
“don’t be an asshole.” Dylan retorts, smacking Ethan’s chest. “this could be our downfall.”
Luke let’s out a stressed sigh at Dylan’s words, and i know this is hard for him.
“Luke?” i call out. he turns to look at me, raising his brows in questioning. “please just kiss me already.”
i don’t have to tell him twice. he struts forward, pulling me in by my belt loops and crashing his lips to mine. his lips are soft and he tastes like the red gatorade he was drinking earlier.
“dear jesus, one day. you guys lasted one day.” Ethan groans. Luke pulls away, sending a glare to his close friend.
“shut up, Eddy.”

PJO TV SHOW (and book) SPOILERS beneath cut!!!!!
What follows is simply a bunch of my nonsensical responses to the first 2 episodes in no particular order; I really cannot explain that any other way I’m afraid
“Whose side are you on?” “Hers, always. She’s my little sister” JUST RIP OUT MY HEART WHY DON’T YOU
Mythomagic. Mythomagic. Mythomagic.
Sally saying not everyone who looks like a hero is a hero and not everyone who looks like a monster is a monster - THE FORESHADOWING??? THE REFERENCE TO BOOKS THAT ARENT EVEN BEING ADAPTED YET IM LOSING MY MIND - Also, the justice for Medusa in this was absolutely gorgeous and so well done because it didn’t black and white anyone as just a hero or just a villain but very well highlighted the woven and layered morality of a very complex web of stories, personally I’m mostly a Medusa defender but give me a good quality, well written Perseus retelling and you could probably convince me otherwise I think the point of many of these stories is that there is never a true victor and nothing is ever as easy to understand as a hero and a monster. I’m getting distracted now but hey let’s keep going, I really love Stone Blind by Natalie Haynes, which very strongly labels Perseus as the monster and Medusa as the victim, but I also think there is an argument that Danaë’s plight was diminished/overlooked in it and I would be open to hearing opposing views on that. Since I’m in this tangent I should add I don’t study classics I am just a fan, so I’m not the expert and would generally expect others to know more than me so get it out there I’m eager to learn. Anyway, Percy Jackson (sorry for the tangent)
Percy saying he thinks he’s made real friends I WANT TO CRY
They softened Gabe up quite a bit, or at least I thought they did maybe you guys think otherwise, but I wonder how his death will come across in this case(????)
I actually really like that they had Annabeth clock who Percy’s father was and push him into the water instead of it being Clarisse shoving him into the creek and stumbling upon it by accident, because it really heightened that idea of her being six steps ahead
I think the conflict between Grover and Percy was interesting and I’m intrigued as to how easily it’s resolved with the quest coming up, and on that point am I right that Sally making Grover swear to protect Percy was a new addition? Because I’m guessing that if the conflict between them is still heightened then that’s going to be the logical reason Grover uses to get into the quest, but also they made a big deal out of that and I kept expecting her to request he swear it on the Styx but she didn’t, I wonder if it was meant to be implied (?) or maybe I’m just reading into it
There was less Annabeth screen time than I was expecting but every second she was on screen was PERFECTION
The casting could literally l not have been better I love them all omg
I was kind of surprised they didn’t confirm Percy’s dyslexia and ADHD in the first episode and instead had Luke mention it because I always thought that Percy had already been diagnosed long beforw he call to camp but maybe I misremembered that (?)
THE D’ANGELO REFERENCE YES - like I know it wasn’t about them but it has to be intentional right?
The blink and you miss it Kane Chronicles reference amused me I haven’t actually read all of the Kane Chronicles yet but I really should
WAS THAT BLACKJACK!!!!!??????
I’m guessing that mechanical monster Percy saw out the window was reference to the bulls in book three sorry I can’t remember what they’re called, and with that the doodles in his notebook YES!!! I noticed a cyclops, Medusa, the minatour, and what I think might have been the hydra but I haven’t rewatched yet so stay tuned for possible correction on that lol
I love camp so much! The cabins are incredible and the interior of the Hermes is so much nicer than I imagined whilst still maintaining a kind of overcrowded atmosphere, I love it.
“You are Poseidon’s son” “I am Sally Jackson’s son” y’all don’t understand I almost screamed oh my good lord yes yes yes yes yes
Also, sassy Percy

My (unofficial) PJO season 2 episode 5 script part 4/4 (part 1 | part 2 | part 3)
The last part! Thank you for reading I just couldn't get the vision for this episode out of my mind and had to write it down.
Images of script and copied text (bc I'm lazy and don't want to write out alt text) under the cut, just in case I didn't tag enough spoiler warning or people aren't interested <3
Annabeth Tries to Swim Home
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
CUT TO: INT. DARK VICTORIAN HOUSE – NIGHT.
Continuation of first scene/flashback. CYCLOPS is grinning at YOUNG ANNABETH menacingly. Behind him, the fire rages, and LUKE, THALIA, and GROVER are tied up in the corner. Annabeth’s attention is taken up by the large monster speaking to her.
CYCLOPS: (in her father’s voice) Annabeth. How nice of you to join us. Now, Annie, don’t you worry.
Annabeth draws her knife. As he speaks, the Cyclops approaches her.
CYCLOPS (CONT): I love you, Annabeth. You can stay here with me. Don’t worry. You can stay forever.
He reaches out for her. Annabeth stabs him in the foot, keeping hold of her knife as he reaches forward and grabs the door in shock. She runs around him towards her friends.
The Cyclops rips the door of its hinges and throws it across the room with a roar.
Annabeth reaches the older kids.
THALIA: Annabeth! Thank the gods you’re okay.
YOUNG ANNABETH: (determined) Hold still.
Annabeth cuts the ropes around Thalia’s arms and legs. Thalia takes up her sword and stands defensively in front of the others.
THALIA: Cut them free, Annabeth. I’ll hold him off.
Annabeth turns to Luke and Grover as the Cyclops roars behind her. She saws at their ropes as Thalia goads and fights the monster.
THALIA (CONT): Come on, ugly! Can’t you take me?
She slices at him with her sword. Now free, Luke can barely stand, Grover supporting him. They all turn to watch Thalia defending them against the monster.
Suddenly, the Cyclops roars, and Thalia’s sword can be seen buried in his eye. As he rears back, she pulls it out, turning to her friends.
THALIA (CONT): Come on. We have to go.
Annabeth leads the way through the house, back the way she came through the servants kitchen into the orangery. They escape through a side door, standing in the storm.
Sirens and howls can be heard, the sounds of the monsters they have been running from closer than before.
THUNDER rumbles as they look around desperately in the dark. Grover sniffs.
GROVER: Come on. This way.
They walk away from the house. The Cyclops roars again from within.
CUT TO:  EXT. POLYPHEMUS’ ISLAND – DAY.
SHEEP hooves/underbellies walk across the screen as POLYPHEMUS calls them. Under one of them hangs PERCY.
ANNABETH: (invisible) Just don’t let go!
Polyphemus drags aside the boulder sealing the cave. He addresses each sheep as they pass.
POLYPHEMUS: (patting each sheep) Hasenpfeffer! Einstein! Widget! Widget? Heavier, huh?
WIDGET stops in front of him, Percy clinging to her wool.
POLYPHEMUS (CONT): Soon you will be big enough to eat! Go on, Widget!
WIDGET enters the cave, followed by the rest of the flock.
ANNABETH: (invisible, from outside) Hey, ugly!
POLYPHEMUS: (looking around wildly) Who said that?
ANNABETH: Nobody!
POLYPHEMUS: Nobody! I remember you!
ANNABETH: You’re too stupid to remember. But Nobody remembers you!
Polyphemus throws a boulder, aiming for the invisible Annabeth.
ANNABETH (CONT): Your aim hasn’t improved!
POLYPHEMUS: Come here! Let me kill you!
ANNABETH: You can’t kill Nobody! And you’ll have to come find me!
Polyphemus yells, running down the hill to find Annabeth. Percy drops off Widget, glancing back outside at the island and the Cyclops before moving further into the cave.
CONT: INT. POLYPHEMUS’ CAVE – DAY.
Percy moves through cavernous hallways, turning a corner into a dead-end room of sheep memorabilia. He backs out, going back the other way and turning right instead of left.
He turns corners through a set of “rooms,” something that might be a bedroom, a room full of bones, and another room full of sheep memorabilia. He turns a corner and trips, catching himself against the cave walls with his hands.
Righting himself, Percy looks around, breathing heavily. He looks back and forth, choosing a hallway and running into another room, full of wool and smelling of sheep. He covers his nose as he looks around the room, faced with three separate doorways.
Percy makes a choice, going through the left opening. Down the hallway, he finds a room with a spinning wheel and loom. GROVER and CLARISSE are inside, trying to undo Clarisse’s ropes.
CLARISSE: It’s no good. You’ve been working at it for hours!
They spot Percy.
CLARISSE (CONT): You’re supposed to be blown up!
PERCY: Yeah, good to see you too--
GROVER: (hugging Percy) You came!
PERCY: Yeah, of course, dude. Now, Clarisse, hold still.
Percy takes Riptide out of his pocket and cuts Clarisse’s ropes.
CLARISSE: (rubbing her wrist) Where’s Annabeth?
PERCY: You’re welcome. She’s outside.
CLARISSE: Great, come on.
PERCY: Wait. Was... It was just you in your lifeboat?
CLARISSE: Yeah. Everybody else... I didn’t even know you guys made it.
Percy looks down at his sword.
PERCY: Okay.
GROVER: Come on, guys. We need to go help Annabeth.
They move back through the cave, Grover guiding them. As they come back into the first room Percy ran through, they hear a loud crash.
Annabeth screams.
POLYPHEMUS: I got Nobody!
Percy, Grover, and Clarisse move to the doorway, peeking through to the main room. Polyphemus is standing at the doorway, holding his arm up. He shakes his fist, and ANNABETH’S CAP flutters to the ground, revealing Annabeth, hanging upside down from his hand.
FADE OUT. THE END

Checkmate (Part Four)
By @spencerreidswhore187 for @sackofpissandshit
Part One | Part Two | Part Three | Part Four | Part Five
Summary: Spencer finds out that reader is not who he thought they were. (Lots of angst)
Pairing: Spencer Reid x Unsub (g!n) Reader
Word Count: 3K
TW: Death, kidnapping, mentions of assault, blood, strong-ish language
A/N: Hi! Thank you to everyone who liked, commented, reblogged and followed Checkmate, it means the world to me. I’m working ever day this week (curse tourists) so I stayed up really late last night to finish this. I hope you like it! ◡̈
You ran. You ran and ran and ran, you couldn’t bring yourself to stop. You could barely stand but nevertheless, you ran. You did not know where you were going but it did not matter, you had to keep running. The alternative was the nightmare that replayed in your mind every night when you tried to fall asleep.
You used the surrounding trees to push yourself forward, your coarse palms scarping the rough bark. You stumbled over the forest floor, unsure how much further you could go. But that doubt was not strong enough to override your natural instinct to run. Even if it killed you, you would never stop running - it wasn’t even an option.
Numb, cold, and alone, you were sure your feet were bleeding. You weren’t sure how long you’d been running. Your mind was bleeding also, your brain swelled with depressing thoughts. Thoughts you could not stand. Thoughts you had to escape. If only you could outrun your conscience as fast as you could outrun the truth.
There was blood everywhere. Crimson stained your hands and clung to your hair and face. Its metallic scent flooded your nose, it was nauseating. Still, you ran. Your shirt had been white, before, now it was the colour of rubies.
Spencer had once told you that the human body contained almost five litres of blood; you wondered how much engulfed you, now. You wondered how a body could hold this much blood.
Some of it was yours, you thought, but you weren’t sure. There was too much to belong to just one person.
There were endless questions that needed answering but it was futile as you ran. Run you repeated your mantra: run, run run. You would keep running, forever if you had to, until you found him.
Until you found Spencer.
——————————————————————————————————
Six Hours Earlier:
Spencer knew how the team would react well before he even proposed the idea.
They were all sitting around the round table discussing what they were to do about you, when he said, “We have the wrong person. Y/N didn’t do this.”
“Reid,” Emily sighed, “we’ve been over this.”
“I know…I-look, Emily, I’m not saying they’re innocent but they didn’t kill this group of people.”
“So,” Luke interrupted, “that doesn’t make them any less of a killer.”
Spencer knew he was right, he needed the others to believe it too.
“I understand that and I agree - I really do - but there is another killer out there.”
“We don’t know that-”
“Yes, we do! I showed you the tapes.” Spencer had felt wretched to do so but it was protocol and he needed the team, his friends, and his family, to know who they were up against. That didn’t make him feel any less guilty though, sharing secrets that had been meant for his ears only.
Luke held his head in his hands, hoping Spencer would eventually see some sense.
Garcia took them all by surprise when she defended him,
“Spencer is right, newbie. Yes, Y/N is guilty and yes they are dangerous but right now they aren’t a threat,” the colourful bangles draped across Penelope’s wrists clattered as she gesticulated wildly, “this Ben dude is and we can’t catch him without Y/N.”
She was right, they all knew it. That didn’t mean they liked it though.
Emily eventually broke the silence, speaking into her phone “Take them Y/N L/N out of their holding cell and bring them to me immediately. Do not remove their handcuffs.”
Emily hung up the call and turned to face the BAU, scanning their reactions.
“Garcia, I need you to go through 911 phone calls regarding missing children from around twelve to fourteen years ago. Tara, you, Luke and Rossi talk to Y/N - see what information you can get from them, and bring in a sketch artist. Reid, you’re with me. Let’s go.”
“What? Why?”
“You cannot be near them, you know this.”
“But-”
“No, Spencer. I need you focused. Let’s see if we can link Ben to other crimes in the area.”
“I can’t.”
“Then go home.”
Spencer wanted to but there were too many bad memories within those walls. What used to be their holy ground was now a crime scene.
——————————————————————————————————
You hated orange, it was such a frustratingly bright colour - it made you stand out when you’re whole life you had been trained to blend into the shadows. You felt stupid in the orange jumpsuit, chains binding your wrists together.
Two women clung to your arms and pulled you out of the elevator. You were relieved to escape the tight box, you hated small spaces - they made you feel like you couldn’t breathe.
The Keith brothers had locked in a wardrobe for days whenever you misbehaved.
Being in tiny rooms made you feel eight years old again, curled in a ball in an infinite darkness. Crying, begging for food or water.
You’d never told Spencer that you were claustrophobic but somehow he figured it out. It must be the profiler in him. No matter where you were or how many flights there were, he would always take the stairs with you, holding firmly onto your hand. He would always drive, get the bus or walk miles for you because he knew that you couldn’t be on trains without being consumed by intense fear.
You wished Spencer was here now, to hold your hand, to whisper sweet nothings into your ear.
But both of you knew, deep down, that would never happen again. You were living a delusion, yet it was so much better than the reality.
You were led back to the same interrogation room as before. You sat, patiently, as the guards tied your chains to the table before exiting.
Agent Rossi and Lewis were already seated opposite you and Luke Alvez was standing, leaning against a large mirror.
You wondered if Spencer was there, watching you.
You chewed at your cheek whilst you waited for the agents to say something.
“Tell us about Ben,” Lewis instructed.
This was your only shot at freedom - you knew better than to risk it.
“I don’t know his full name, he was always just Ben, or, um, the Bandit.”
Agent Rossi stood up rapidly.
“What did you just say?” He demanded.
“The Bandit?”
“Shit,” you heard Alvez whisper.
You’d never been one of the people who referred to Ben as ‘The Bandit’, he was always just Ben to you, once you had overheard a group of older men calling him that.
You remembered Beth, the only one who had treated you with any kindness telling you stories of the Bandit and his army of dead. She would stroke your hair as you went to sleep and tell you made-up stories of him and all his crimes. You weren’t well-liked by the others - they detested you for being Ben’s favourite, the one he always selected for missions.
It was only a few years ago that you’d discovered that the Bandit was real and he was, in fact, Ben. You never believed Beth’s stories, though…until now.
“It’s what some of the others would call him,” you explained.
Luke slipped out of the room and Tara and Rossi glanced at each other.
“Y/N,” Lewis asked gently, “Do you know where Ben is?”
You nodded. “He has an estate on the outskirts of Virginia. Maybe thirty miles away from here: Ivylands Manor.”
Rossi went to leave the room, “Lewis, you stay here. I’ll be back in a few.”
Agent Lewis turned back to face you, “You’ve been very helpful Y/N, if you could just give me a description of Ben for our sketch artist, we’ll be sure to let the courts know.”
—————————————————————————————————--
Spencer and Emily were deep in files when Luke and Rossi came rushing in.
“Emily, we have a problem.”
Spencer’s heart started racing, a million incidents rushing through his mind. He needed you to be okay, he couldn’t let the last thing he ever said to you be a threat. He couldn’t let the last thing he ever did to you be pretending he didn’t hear you say ‘I love you.’
Because he did. It has played on a loop in his mind ever since.
You were a criminal, an unsub, why did he still desperately want to kiss you.
“Ben is actually Ben Smyth, the Bandit.”
“As in-”
“The Gallagher murders? Yes.”
The Gallagher murders had occurred ten years ago. Over the span of six weeks, each member of the Gallagher family had been brutally murdered, one by one. It had started with the Father who had been shot through the head. At the time it had been assumed suicide. The family had grieved for two days before the youngest child, only fourteen months old, had been drowned in the bathtub in the middle of the night.
The murders went on and on until the only person alive was fifteen-year-old Bethany Gallagher. When she was taken, in the middle of a cold, harsh night, was ‘THE BANDIT’ written in blood on the wall.
The same exact crime occurred in nine other households across the country. The police never figured out who did it. It was a case that had driven Gideon mad.
There had been a partial fingerprint discovered at the seventh crime scene - the Miller family. It had been traced to a Ben Smyth, aged forty-seven. No one could track him down, though.
“Y/N gave us the address,” Rossi said.
“Get the SUVs. We leave now.”
Spencer looked up, “what about…”
“They’re coming with us. We are going to need the element of surprise. Y/N will be the bait.”
The next ten minutes were a blur.
Spencer was deafened by a sharp ringing sound in his ears as you emerged from the interrogation room. He could see your rigid face despite the awkward angle you are being held at. The bruised bags beneath your eyes were sunken, exhaustion etched into your features. Spencer could not comprehend how you still managed to look so beautiful.
JJ kept a hand on Spencer’s shoulder as you were walked to the changing rooms to be dressed in your old clothes and given an earpiece.
Emily reiterated the plan.
“Y/N will go in first and locate Smyth, closely followed by Reid and Alvez. The rest of us will hang back and watch the perimeter. Does that sound okay?”
There was a collective ‘yes’ from the team before getting into the black cars.
Luke sat in the driver’s seat, you and Spencer were in the back. You were still handcuffed.
“Tell me again, what I’m doing,” you asked him. You already knew the answer but you just wanted to hear his voice one last time - you had a feeling this might be the last time you saw him.
The SUV sped along the road, sirens flashing.
“You have an earpiece in?”
“Yes.”
“Agent Prentiss will feed you instructions as you enter the Ivylands. SSA Luke Alvez and I will be close behind you. We just need you to keep him distracted so we can arrest him with as few casualties as possible.”
You nodded wordlessly, staring down at your feet. Is this the end for us? You wanted to ask. You wanted Spencer to hold you and tell you it will all be okay. That tomorrow you will go home and watch Doctor Who or play a game of chess.
You could feel Spencer staring at you.
His large hand reached out and stroked your cheek before pulling the earpiece out of your own, repeating the same action on his own.
Spencer leaned in towards you and whispered, “I wish things were different.”
“But they’re not,” you breathed. “Do you love me?”
You needed to hear him say it for the final time.
“I-you lied to me, you tricked me. God, Y/N, you broke my heart.” He ran his hands through his hair.
“But do you love me?”
“I can’t!”
“It’s sad,” you sighed, tired of this game, “You ask someone about love and they tell you about heartbreak.”
The cracks in Spencer’s heart kept growing.
He remembered your first date, deep down he already knew he loved you then.
You’d gone straight from the cemetery to the cinema. You’d watched Die Hard, Spencer was enamoured with your grin that was plastered across your face throughout the whole film. It made him want to rush to the shops and buy the entire franchise. It was late December, fairy lights were hung in the streets and you bumped your shoulder against his as you tried to convince him why Die Hard is the best Christmas movie.
“It’s not even a Christmas film, there is no Santa, not even a Christmas tree on screen at any point!” Spencer had exclaimed.
“Blasphemy” you had laughed. “And you’re right, it's not just a Christmas film - it’s the Christmas film.”
You were like nothing he’d ever seen before, glowing under the streetlights.
That was when you had your first kiss, too.
He had whispered, “Can I kiss?” Watching carefully for any signs that you did not want to. When you nodded he instantly closed the gap between you, leaning down to press his soft lips to yours.
Spencer forced himself away from the memory when he heard you ask, “Spence…what would you do if I died today.”
Spencer was relieved you were interrupted by Luke stopping the car, and instructing the two of you to get out. The promise dies on his lips.
Just because he didn’t say it didn’t make it any less true: if you died today, Spencer would die tomorrow.
You and Spencer fixed your earpieces back in place.
“Ready?” Luke asked.
You could do this, you had to. You remembered when Ben had caught Beth trying to escape, he had made all the girls line up and watch him kill her. He had shot her in the heart. You would make sure he was arrested, and you would condemn him to life in prison - a fate worse than death. And you would do it for you. You would do it for Beth. You would do it for all the girls he trained to be killers.
You entered the large manor house alone. It had been years since you’d been here, within the blinding white walls. Still, you remembered your way around it like it was yesterday.
You’d practically grown up in Ivylands.
Ben would be in his office, you headed there first.
Hesitantly, you gripped the brass door handle and pushed the door open, it creaked loudly.
You weren’t sure what you expected when you entered the expansive room but it wasn’t Ben lying face down in a pool of his own blood. You rushed towards the body, falling onto your knees and rolling him over.
There was blood everywhere.
There was a hole in his wool suit, right above his breast pocket - evidently where he’d been shot.
Ben was dead. Dead. Dead. Dead.
There was a gun resting next to him, you grabbed it. Standing up and aiming it as examined the office.
“Y/N, what’s happening? Have you located Smyth?” You heard Emily’s voice in your ear.
You pulled the earpiece out, ignoring the smear of blood that was left along the side of your face.
Your lack of response prompted Luke and Spencer to rush into the room, adorning their FBI vests and guns pointed.
“Y/N L/N put down the gun. Now.” Alvez ordered.
Spencer was perplexed, “Y/N what are you doing? Put the gun down.”
You didn’t. You stood frozen.
“Y/N,” Spencer slowly approached you, arms outstretched, “what did you do? Why did you kill him?”
His firm grip extracting the pistol from your hands snapped you back to reality.
“No…I didn’t do this,” you protested. “Spence, please. It wasn’t me!”
It was futile, you could tell that neither of the men would believe you.
“Emily…” You vaguely heard Luke explain the situation to the rest of the team.
And then you saw it.
A flash of a figure by the entrance to the woods. Spencer saw it too.
You didn’t think. You just ran.
Spencer and Luke followed too.
The forest was silent until the sound of a gun cocking echoed throughout.
You watched a familiar girl with a dark mess of long curls aim a gun at you.
The last time you saw her, she was blonde…and dead.
“Beth,” you gasped.
Spencer recognised her immediately from the case files. “Bethany Gallagher.”
“No!” She shouted, “Don’t fucking call me that!”
“You killed Ben.” You stated.
Beth snarled, “Yes and he deserved it. He killed my family. He nearly killed me. You should be thanking me, I know what he did to you. I know that he was planning to kill you and your stupid boyfriend.”
You took a defensive step in front of Spencer.
That was a mistake. You should have considered all the outcomes of your actions before you moved but you were too distracted by protecting who you loved.
You forgot Luke was there until the shot was fired and he collapsed onto the muddy ground.
You ran over to him, applying pressure onto the wound. There was blood everywhere. Why was there so much blood?
Red was rapidly becoming your least favourite colour.
You looked back up to ask Spencer to get help but you were too late. Spencer was gone.
Beth had taken him and you would stop at nothing to get him back.
You waited for the rest of the team to reach you. JJ kept telling Alvez he would be okay and Emily’s hands replaced yours atop the gunshot wound when you forced yourself up.
You stared deep into the forest, in the direction Beth and Spencer must have gone.
Slowly, you picked up Luke’s gun and held it tight in your hand.
And then you started running.
A/N: Thank you for reading! The final part (five) should be up by the end of the week ◡̈

You Don't Love Me Anymore Pt.2
Part 1
Warning: Angst & Swearing
Word Count: 2.0k
[Mark POV]
I am woken up at 4:30 in the morning by a sad looking eddy nudging me awake. “Dude, what the fuck?” I say looking up at the figure in the dark. “Did you and Y/N really break up?” eddy asks. I look at my phone to confirm the time before replying “it’s 4:30, go to bed. I don’t want to talk about it”, “I liked Y/N though. She was cool ”, “You are drunk. go to bed”. Eddy doesn’t say anything but instead turns to the door and leaves. After my door shuts on his way out,  I roll my eyes to the sound of his voice talking to himself in the hallway “Idiot.”
It was difficult to fall back asleep.  I have so many thoughts running through my head: ‘Was I wrong?’ ‘I should have never called her those horrible things’. ‘I know that her and bone would never do anything’. Maybe I was just jealous. Y/N is a hugger so it was normal for her to hug the guys and I wouldn’t get jealous. I don’t know what got over me. I guess, her legs wrapped around bone is what made it different. The thoughts ran through my mind all night.
I couldn’t sleep, so I picked up my phone to text her. When I opened my phone I noticed about 10 texts from a couple of guys that I just ignored but one text from Moyle left me relieved:
~4:18 am~
Moyle: She’s here asleep on the couch. I don’t know what the fuck happened between the two of you but I know she is going to be a sick one in the morning and I don’t want to be the one dealing with that.
She’s safe. I look at the time, 8:25, I decide to get up and make my way to the couch. Luke is already up and sitting on the couch watching ESPN. I sit across from him on the recliner. “Couple of us are going to breakfast, you coming?” Luke asks. “No, I can’t. I gotta do something”, “It’ll probably be lunch by the time Mackie gets out of bed”. Duker soon joins us watching espn. “Wasn’t it eddys idea to go for breakfast, he still not up?” duker asks as he falls back on the couch, “I’m hungry” Luke starts, “I’m going to wake Mackie up first because I know that he isn’t up”.
8:55 is the time on my phone. ‘Do I apologize?’, ‘I told her I didn’t love her anymore’, ‘I love her’, thoughts keep messing with my head. As I am sitting here dazed in my thoughts, I receive a hard slap in the back of the head. “Ow!”, “That was for Y/N. Don’t know what happened but what I do know is she was a mess after you disappeared last night” Mackie states. “Go back to bed, isn’t it a little early for you to be up?” I defend myself. “Wait what happened last night” a confused duker asked as he left the party pretty early, “you guys good?” he continued. “No, they broke up” eddy says entering the room. “I leave one party early and the world stops spinning” duker says. Luke comes down the hall and straight to the front door, “alright I am leaving with or without you guys” he announces. “We were waiting for you moron” Mackie replies. “You know what, I don’t like your attitude” Luke defends himself.
As they leave, I decide that I would go to Moyle’s. Before leaving, I grab an ice pack from the freezer, and Advil from the counter before making my way over.
Once I get to Moyle’s I open the door and thankfully it is unlocked. “Estapa, you fucked up” moyle starts. “You weren’t there” I defend myself before asking “where is she?”, “She is still sleeping, don’t worry Bone checked about 5 minutes ago, she still has a pulse” moyle tried to joke but the thought of Bone touching Y/N makes my jaw clench, “we figured we’d let her sleep since it’s going to be a pretty rough day” Moyle continued.
I followed Moyle into the kitchen where I now stand with Grano and bone. “Hey man, we good?” bone starts reaching his hand out for me to bring it in. Looking at bone has me thinking about the last thing Y/N and I said to each other last night :
“You going back in to fuck J-bone?!”, “Maybe I should! After all I am single now!”
Instead of reaching out for his hand I ask firmly, “Did you two fuck last night”. “Oh my god” Grano says, with his eyes wide. I can see Moyle’s jaw drop at my sudden blunt question. “No way. You're my pal, and Y/N is a pal” Bone says to me. “By the way you guys were acting, I figured one of you would make a move” I say covering up the real reason why the question bursted out of me.
“Be a little more quiet, she is literally right in the next room. But buddy, I’d think you had a little more respect for your girlfriend”. This conversation is starting to become a little aggressive, right before I could even reply, the conversation was interrupted by the sound of the bathroom door slamming and Y/N sick inside.
[Y/N POV]
I opened my eyes and was awoken by a migraine and a familiar voice. Mark. “Did you fuck her last night after I left”. What the fuck. I sit up to allow myself to hear the conversation a little better. “No way. You're my pal, and Y/N is a pal”, “By the way you guys were acting, I figured one of you would make a move”, oh no, I am going to throw up. “Be a little more quiet, she is literally right in the next room. But buddy, I’d think you had a little more respect for your girlfriend”. Yup I am sick. I start to make my way quickly to the bathroom slamming the door behind me and falling face first into the toilet bowl.
After releasing what felt like all the contents of my stomach, I lay down on the cold tile floor and hear a faint knock on the door. “No, go away”, “Please, can we just talk.”,”No, you really think I want to talk to anyone right now let alone you” I muffled back. “I have an ice pack and some Advil”, “I don’t care, I don’t want to see you right now”,”Well then I will sit at the other side of this door until you do”. I can’t listen to what he has to say because I know that I will take him back immediately. What he said hurt me and ultimately his behavior has probably made it awkward for me to be around any of the boys including Jay.
About 20 minutes later I heard the front door open and close. “Mark? Are you still there?” I call out. I can here the figure on the other side of the door shuffle quickly getting up from there sitting position on the floor. “I’m here baby, what is wrong?” mark answers. “You can come in, but bring the ice pack and Advil”.
Mark enters the room and hands me the ice pack and sets a glass of water of the floor before handing me the Advil. Before I took the Advil, I felt a sudden wave of nausea again. I knelt in front of the toilet again but this time Mark was there holding my hair back and rubbing my back.
When I was done he got up and washed his hands before wetting a face cloth he found under the sink, then he took a seat on the floor next to me facing me. He took the wash cloth and gently started dabbing around my mouth and rubbing some of the puke out of my hair. “Thank you” i said hiding my face, he smiles gently. “You are still wearing last nights clothes. Let me run out to the car. I have some sweats you can wear” he says as he starts to stand up. I grab his arm though and gently pull him back down guiding him to sit on the floor with me. “No, just lay here with me”.
He kneels down to pick me up bridal style and carries me to the couch. “I will be right back”, he says before leaving the room. When he returns he has the glass of water, the ice pack and a new Advil since the last one ended up on the floor.
After taking the Advil, I motion for him to come lay beside me on the couch, but he doesn’t. I sit up and he moves over a bit so I can sit beside him on the couch. I rest my head on his shoulder and we sit there for a second in silence before Mark speaks up. “I lied last night”, I turn to look at Mark who was already looking at me. “I lied when I said I didn’t love you anymore”, I felt my eyes start to burn as I remember the hurtful things he said to me last night. I don’t want him to see me cry, so I stand up and start walking to the bathroom. He quickly stands behind me, “Are you okay? Are you sick?” he says. “No- Yes- No I-um just need to get a-away from y-you” I reply starting to cry. Before reaching the bathroom door Mark grabbed my arm and turned me so I was facing him, he didn’t say anything he just held me in his arms while I cried into his shoulder.
He walked us back to the couch and sat us down so we were sitting there with his arms around me keeping me close. “You don’t love whores” I said, trying to push his arm away from over my shoulder. “You aren’t a whore. I told you, I lied last night. Everything I said wasn’t true. But you, you were right. You told me I was jealous. And you know what maybe I was” Mark started but I wouldn’t look at him, I didn’t want to give in, “I am so sorry baby, please look at me”. I give in and look at Mark, there is a tear in his eye threatening to fall. “Don’t cry” Is the only thing I could say. He lets out a soft chuckle while the tear escapes his eye, “Why are you telling me not to cry? I love that you are so caring even when you're hurt. I love that you care so much about not only me but my friends and teammates. I love everything about you” Mark continues.
I wipe the tear that traveled down to his jaw line, “I think it’s time that I say I’m sorry” I say looking into his eyes. “No, don-”, “Yes, I am sorry I made you feel uncomfortable, obviously I have broken a boundary”, Mark looking in my eyes gives me an assuring nod before I rest my head on his chest while I am wrapped up in his arms. “And Mark”, “hm”, “I love you too” he lifts my chin up and squares our lips so they are facing each other before I say “Nope, I need a toothbrush and some toothpaste first”, earning a chuckle from Mark.
We sit wrapped up in eachothers arms for a moment before Mark speaks up, “Are you feeling better?” I nod, “Okay, good. Can we go home because I think it is going to start getting awkward here soon sitting on Moyle’s couch” Mark jokes. “Where did he go anyway?” I ask. “I texted Luke and asked him to invite them to breakfast so I could get you alone”, “kinky” i joke. Mark rolls his eyes laughing, before throwing me over his shoulder and taking me to the car.   As we are driving back home, Mark grabs my hand and brings it up to his lips, kissing it gently before saying “I will never stop loving you”.
