Okay okay okay. We gotta do 23. now-or-never kisses for peterpatter because the first words out of my mouth watching jatp was, "Are they gonna make out?" When they went to share the mic.
It seemed like a good idea at the time. Luke is always trying to brainstorm new fun things to do on stage while they're performing, and sharing the microphone with Reggie was a total no-brainer. They harmonize well together so why not make it even more exciting for the audience?
Luke didn't stop to think what he might feel when Reggie was barely an inch away, what it might do to his insides listening to Reggie singing his heart out right alongside him. He hadn't expected it to do anything but bring him assurance that he has the best ideas in the world (suck it, Bobby).
But instead, it brought an overwhelming rush of emotions that stole Luke's voice and left him with nothing but flushed cheeks and the deep desire to melt into the floor from embarrassment.
"Did--" Reggie looks over at Alex as the song comes to an abrupt stop mid-chorus. Luke could kick himself for making Reggie think he's done something wrong; the look on his face is heartbreaking. "Did I…"
"No," Luke chokes out as he steps back, laughing a little as he tries to clear his throat. "Just…" He awkwardly gestures to his head, twirling his finger around as he looks anywhere but Reggie's face. "Lost it for a second, I guess."
"Are you okay?" Reggie asks, even more worry bleeding through his voice to make Luke feel worse. He can feel Alex's judgmental gaze from his right and he's sure Bobby's rolling his eyes at his back.
"Yeah," Luke says with what he hopes is a convincing nod as he adjusts his guitar strap and plasters on a smile. "Why don't we… umm… start over?"
Luke tries to steel himself for the next time Reggie joins him at the mic, but when they run through the song again and the time comes… Reggie misses his cue. He stays at his own microphone to Luke's right and sings just like he's supposed to, but somehow this is even worse.
There's no interruption this time and the four of them manage to get through the song without a single mistake, but Luke can't shake the small sense of dread that's settled in his stomach once the garage is quiet again.
Band practice is supposed to end, now that they've run through their whole set, but for the first time possibly ever Luke is actually torn about wanting to extend the session. Any other day, he's always the one begging and pleading with the others to stay a little longer. Today he can't decide if he wants to at least try to get through Now or Never again or if he wants everyone to leave as soon as fucking possible so he can clean up whatever mess he's made of himself.
Reggie won't even look at him as he's putting away his bass. Luke doesn't feel like he can move despite everyone else packing up their instruments and getting ready to leave the garage; the only thing he can do is watch Reggie and hope that he'll eventually look his way.
When it starts to look like Reggie's going to make a break for the door without sparing Luke even the briefest of looks, Luke finally manages to do something.
"Reg," he blurts out, far louder than necessary, and his face burns with renewed embarrassment when all three of his bandmates look at him. "Can we talk?" he adds in a quieter voice as he forces himself to maintain eye contact now that Reggie's finally looking at him.
"Don't do anything stupid," Bobby calls over his shoulder as he and Alex head for the door, and Luke gives him the finger. Reggie's face twists in confusion over Bobby's comment, but he doesn't say a word.
Even after Alex and Bobby have left, Reggie stays perfectly silent.
Luke swallows hard and fidgets a little, tapping his fingers against the frets of his guitar as he struggles with what to say. He really didn't want Reggie to leave on bad terms, but he has absolutely no idea how to explain what happened.
"Can we maybe try that again?" he finally asks, and once again Reggie looks confused.
"W-Without the others?"
"Yeah."
"Umm…" Reggie scratches the back of his neck before he shrugs. "Sure?"
He retrieves his bass from its case as Luke breathes a soft sigh of relief. Maybe he won't have to explain himself at all if he can get through this like a normal person would. Whatever happened before was nothing more than a fluke, and he's gonna prove it.
Reggie still looks hesitant as he takes his place at his own microphone, but Luke tries his best to give him a reassuring smile.
It's fucking weird not having Alex and Bobby to round out the sound of the song, but they push through the first verse and chorus with ease. A lump forms in Luke's throat as they draw closer to Reggie's cue and he finds himself staring, hoping that Reggie's not going to leave him hanging this time.
Sure enough, Reggie crosses the space between them and joins Luke to sing won't stop climbing, 'cause this is our time - and that same feeling floods Luke's veins. His fingers falter and he loses his breath all over again, but this time he doesn't look away from Reggie.
This time, before Reggie can even start to wonder if he's done something wrong, Luke lets go of his guitar and grabs a hold of the front of Reggie's shirt. He hardly realizes what he's doing until it's too late and their mouths are meeting in a desperate, messy kiss.
Reggie makes a soft moan of surprise against Luke's mouth but doesn't pull away. When Luke's brain catches up to the rest of his body, his first instinct is to stop kissing Reggie but he ignores that immediately. Luke tilts his head and kisses Reggie a little harder, curls his fingers a little tighter in his shirt and wishes that their guitars weren't between them.
When the kiss breaks a little while later, both of them gasping for breath, Luke refuses to let go. He presses his forehead against Reggie's and huffs out a laugh.
"Maybe this wasn't a good idea," he says softly.
Reggie goes still. "What?"
"I mean--" Luke licks his lips. "Not kissing you. I didn't mean that."
"Luke…"
"No, I… I meant…" Luke groans a little and wraps his other hand around the back of Reggie's neck as he brings their lips back together in a shorter kiss.
Reggie's trembling when Luke pulls away a second time, but at least now he doesn't look to be on the verge of tears.
"I meant," Luke whispers, "I'm never gonna get through this part without wanting to do that."
Reggie's jaw drops as a dark blush fills his cheeks, and Luke can't help but smirk.
"You… umm…" Reggie clears his throat. "You can… i-if you want, you can--"
Luke kisses him again, chuckling into Reggie's mouth as he sighs with relief and kisses him back. They can figure out something else to get the crowd going. Luke wants to keep this - and Reggie - all to himself.

my ass at 3am:
"julie and the phantoms has 4 members and they also have 2 singers and 2 guitarists. 2 + 2 is 4 and 4 + 4 is 8. reginald has 8 letters in it. he was in a band called sunset curve and he had 3 other members but since bobby isn't his bandmate anymore we take him out. 3 - 1 is 2 so we'll get jatp 2. not only will we get jatp 2 we will also get reginald's/reggie's backstory"

Staring at each other’s lips for a moment before moving closer, as if drawn together by some unseen force for Peterpatter?
(AO3)
It was a joke. Reggie knew it had been a joke…right? He played it off like it was a joke. So Luke wasn’t entirely sure why it kept bothering him the way it did, and at the most random of times.
Never when Luke thought it should have happened upon later contemplation.
Like while sharing a microphone would make sense. However, that felt as tense as it always had. A moment shared feeding off the energy of performing and cementing Luke’s “chemistry” argument more than anything. But no different than any time before.
No, it was while they all sat around doing their own things and sharing the same space; Luke would look up to see Reggie softly smiling as he strummed out a tune on his bass. Or when Reggie had casually stolen a sip from Alex’s milkshake. Luke’s eyes were constantly being drawn to Reggie’s mouth, remembering how soft his lips were against his fingertips, wishing he could be that goddamned straw just to feel them again.
And everytime he’d think that maybe he should bring it up or say something Reggie’s voice would always echo around his head. “Girl’s am I right?” accompanied by a tense shallow laugh and Luke’s insides would twist as something painfully tried to crawl its way up his throat.
Beyond that brief moment where Reggie had been very obviously flustered the other boy didn’t seem as affected by the whole thing as Luke.
Which, just, that proved it right? Luke was overthinking it.
After all if Reggie didn’t find it a big deal and clearly wasn’t lingering on it then neither should he.
Right?
“I’m off.” Alex announced from where he was standing by the studio doors, one late afternoon.
Luke glanced up from his notebook and guitar towards the drummer. From the corner of his eye he caught Reggie smile and wiggle those dark expressive brows of his, “off to go hang with a particular skater?”
Alex rolled his eyes, but the movement didn’t hide the way his lips awkwardly twitched trying to hide his fond smile. “You two behave,” he groaned before sharply turning on his heel and leaving.
Leaving Luke and Reggie alone. The only two on the couch, in the studio. Alone.
Which shouldn’t have mattered.
Except…
Except it’s the first time since the joke that Luke can recall the two of them being alone like this. Just another coincidence, surely.
He has to be imagining the way the air seems to grow tense and heavier with the revelation. The way Reggie doesn’t seem quite as relaxed as before.
“So?” Luke drawls out, holding back on his urge to wince when no other winds spill out of his mouth. He didn’t need to say anything at all but he always felt compelled to fill tense silences. Imagined or not.
The way Reggie turned to look at him didn’t help matters. Brows furrowed, plush lips pouting at him.  Green eyes not quite catching his when Luke forced his eyes from those lips. Almost as if Reggie had been staring at his nose…or his lips.
Luke mentally shook that idea from his mind. His imagination was getting far too carried away.
Only when Reggie’s eyes darted back up, his eyes locking back onto Luke’s, a rosy tint began to bloom across his cheeks. He bit at his bottom lip. A subtle movement Luke shouldn’t have caught if not for the fact that his traitorous eyes had returned to looking at Reggie’s lips again while Reggie was definitely watching him.
This time when Luke looked back up the distance between him and Reggie had closed the smallest bit. And it felt like the most natural thing to finish closing it off.
Reggie’s nose brushed up against his wide eyes fluttering close when his warm breath ghosted across Luke’s lips. A hum rumbled through Luke's chest and throat, as his fingers tangled into Reggie’s silky hair-although he couldn’t clearly tell if it came from him or Reggie.
Luke’s heart stuttered in his chest as he felt Reggie’s tongue trail along his bottom lip. He happily obliged the other boy tilting his head and reveling in the deepening kiss.
Reggie desperately clung to Luke’s shirt and he was seriously considering losing the damn thing. The creak of the studio door hinge reminded Luke where they were. He and Reggie startled apart just before Flynn and Julie entered.
He knew he and Reggie both looked guilty as hell, on top of all the other visual clues they had clearly been in the middle of making out. The two girl’s exchanged knowing looks after barely glimpsing. Julie attempted to bite back a smirk, Flynn made no such effort, “are we interupting something?”
Luke exchanged a look with Reggie. Or he would have if the bassist hadn’t ducked his head down in a clear attempt to hide his fire engine blush.
“Uh, nope.” Luke declared, then grabbed Reggie’s hand before he could deflate too far. “Actually Reg and I were just about to head out.”
“We were?” Reggie squeaked over Flynn and Julie’s barely stifled giggles.
“Yep,” Luke pulled the bassist up, guiding him toward the door, never letting go of the others hand. Whispered in his ear as they went, “you and I have some things to discuss, and possibly some more kisses to exchange.”
“Have fun.” Flynn called out after them overlapping Julie’s, “be safe.”

11:11 [PeterPatter Roadtrip AU]
'From 7-Elevens to California Heavens … I found a million places You'd be worth the chases to go'
Luke had no back-up plan, if this fell through. Or at least, he had no back up plan that didn't involve him moping around for the rest of his life about losing this one shot at stardom, if that were to happen. So, it's cemented. He'll be spending the next two weeks on the road to LA, alone with his best friend's ridiculously handsome roommate. Just him, Reggie, and the road. Right.
Road trip AU. AKA: Luke and Reggie accidentally fall in love in two weeks, but it all seems to add up.
Chapters 1-2 on AO3 (hopefully! updating regularly!) and a preview below :)
“Do you ever entertain the thought that maybe our parents are right?” Luke asks into the air one day. He’s hanging upside down on the couch in his family's garage, his mop of hair barely grazing the old rug that often kept him from otherwise laying on the cold pavement. He practically lived there at this point, ever since he’d repurposed their old furniture and bought enough equipment to fill the space. It was a studio, supposedly, but it had become his and Alex’s shared home at some point, like a haven to escape their parents’ disapproval.
Disapproval had different definitions for each of them. Which is why Luke’s question earns a quirked brow from Alex.
“You’re talking about your parents, right?” Alex points out lightly, knowing that his best friend often thought out loud, forgetting that others couldn’t exactly read his mind. Alex came close, though.
“Yeah, shit, yeah,” Luke chuckles, shaking his head. There’s a bit of a shy silence after, though it wasn’t awkward at all. Alex knew that his smile was apologetic, so he shrugged it off. They both had complicated lives at home, so it was easy to get lost in the details.
Alex's parents were never cool again after he told them he was gay. They buried it with false promises of acceptance on the off chance he'd "end this phase" and "choose the right path," but otherwise didn't really care for him after that. As if avoiding him would allow them to avoid the parts of him that made them uncomfortable. As if they could pick and choose parts of their son like that. Alex got the hint, and he spent most of his time in that garage with Luke. It was a fine arrangement.
Besides, he had grades high enough to get into UCLA’s English major, and he's got this perfectionist nature that served him in every other aspect of his life. Any other parent would be jealous. So in that sense, the Mercers were as cool as they had to be—they let him go, they congratulated him, and they helped him get on the move. Because even a homophobic father wouldn't keep his son from attending a UC.
Luke had the entirely opposite situation. Despite the boys' shared comfort sessions, Mitch and Emily were those jealous parents.
That's just to say, the Pattersons had a loving household in every other way, but they struggled when it came to Luke's future. When Alex came out and the shitshow began, he came to the Pattersons first. Luke's mom baked the boys cookies, and Luke's dad tried speaking to Alex's. Luke was pretty sure they’d thought the two boys were dating. But that didn’t matter, since they had his parents' support regardless. They couldn't fix anything in entirety, but they sure as hell did their best to help. And even when things got tense, Emily would find her way to get Luke a proper home-cooked meal. Their home was full of love in that way. Yet, with senior year having ended and Luke's plans to take off and not go to college set in stone, tensions were as high as ever. They loved their son so much, and they worried about his stability with music as a career. They’d been pestering him for months now, about finding a school and a major that could help with his future. That's how Alex knew that Luke wasn't referring to the Mercers in his question.
"What's on your mind, bro?" Alex prompts, closing his laptop that he'd previously been writing lyrics on to look over the other boy.
Luke huffs, swinging back up to sit and meet Alex' eyes.
"Nothing. Blankness. It’s empty."
Alex snorts, "Come on, give me something. It's not often you agree with your mom on… this." He gestured vaguely around the makeshift studio.
"I don't agree with her," Luke groans, falling back onto the couch, just after he'd sat up. Alex rolls his eyes, because the brunette had always been one for theatrics. He gives the other a few moments to think about it.
Luke had a free ticket to community college. He still had a month to enroll, his acceptance was guaranteed, and his parents would have paid for the whole deal. With that one month soon turning into mere weeks, Emily was really pushing it now. Alex knew of this, but he also knew of Luke’s stubborn nature. He would never actually give in.
"I'm just lost," Luke pouts slightly, his voice coming out whinier than he'd expected or wanted.
Alex is quiet for a moment, frowning. "It's okay to be lost," he offers.
And Luke immediately laughs, tone dry. "Easy for you to say, Mr. UCLA," he scoffs. He quickly backtracks when he meets Alex's eyes, though. He hates the sort of pity, the sort of guilt, that’s in them.
Alex has his future sorted out. Of course it was a little hard on Luke. In just over a week his best friend would be off to the university and sorting out his dorm for the year. Luke’s parents always ask Alex about how the move’s coming along, and they know more about the itinerary than Luke does. Because a goodbye would hurt too much, and the stability argument’s been keeping him preoccupied. "I just… I admire you for being so on top of it and stuff, okay? But you know mom. She’s been pushing the college thing, and, yeah. The comparisons make me feel more lost, sometimes," he mumbles.
It's Alex's turn to pout. "Lu… Dude, sometimes I feel like you've got it together more than I do. You can’t compare us on that end. Whatever your parents are saying,” he huffs. It’s tough, because he knows how much Luke cares about Emily. When they fight, it’s a tough sort of crossroads with that love. Even Alex struggles with it, after all these years of being taken under their roof. “I know it’s rough, but... you know what you want, you know what makes you happy. Right?" he asks, glancing at the boy's guitar.
Luke nods a little.
"Then what's this about?" Alex is met with silence for a while, as Luke nibbles on his bottom lip.
"I found a place in LA. For me," he blurts out. "And-and a couple of gigs. I think I can find a consistent one if I try hard enough... And I already know of some showcases where I can find people to make the dream come true. Managers and labels and stuff... It feels like everything I’ll ever need,” he allows himself to sound wistful, if just for a moment. He’d always been a boy with big dreams, but dreams at that level were intimidating. “I just… it's a lot and my folks fucking hate the thought so they're not helping and I'm lost but I can't let this go," his lip is once again in between his teeth, just as quickly as those words had all had spilled out, but Alex has already broken into a wide grin.
"You in LA! That is the dream, Luke, holy shit, why didn't you just say?” The other boy doesn't seem to understand his anxiety for a moment, which is odd because usually things are reversed in terms of nerves. But Alex is just excited at the thought of having his best friend in the same city, and he's always had faith in Luke making it big. He wasn't worried when it came to that.
"I don't know how to get there with all my shit, 'Lex," Luke all but whimpers. He'd sat up again at some point, and now he's cradling his knees close to his chest, like a protective layer. "Not to mention the fucking prices when it comes to living in LA. I need time before I make it big, and… and without my parents helping out, it really does feel like more than I can handle." His brows are furrowed where just about anyone could tell how much it pained him to say that. Luke needed music like he needed air. It'd be stupid to let money get in the way of that.
"You don't need them," Alex states with a skeptical amount of confidence. "I'm serious, " he pouts when Luke gives him a questioning look. "You've got me . We'll find our way to make this all work."
"I'm not asking you to fix this for me, no way," Luke's eyebrows furrow even more, because he hates being treated like a charity case almost as much as he hates the thought of not pursuing music. Almost.
"I'm literally driving to LA either way, Lu. Not to mention scouting for my own job—I'm not an idiot about those prices. We'll manage that part together. It'll be perfect, actually, we just have to talk to Reggie," Alex hums. He wasn't going to let his best friend let the chance of a lifetime go, not when these were logistics that he was sorting out for himself, anyway. Even his future roommate was in a similar situation. It lined up pretty nicely.
"Reggie?" Luke questions, snapping Alex out of his dream state–the other was already imagining the three of them becoming best friends and rocking out together after the three week road trip.
"Oh, yeah, my roomie. He's the one driving me? We've got space for another, I just have to ask. Plus there's reservations on the way and all—and you need to pack—but I'm sure we'll be fine. You'd both get along, too, I swear. We met when we were applying to all the Cali arts schools, which should tell you enough about the kind of person he is. Aside from liking country music, he's really sweet and all that," Alex rambles, but Luke still looks confused.
"I thought your parents were arranging your whole move?" he questions.
Alex shakes his head, "They're arranging my stuff being moved. Good riddance to my junk, that kind of thing." He shrugs, "A carpool's better on the wallet, anyways. You're not the only one thinking about those finances."
Luke gives an awkward chuckle. "Huh. Right. But—third wheeling you two, really? How do I not even know of this guy?" he realized.
Alex laughs out at that, and he pulls out his phone while he talks. "Well, he goes to a different school, so I wouldn’t have guessed that you guys had met,” he shrugs, and pulls Instagram up to look up Reggie Peters. “He does like guys, but I’m willing to bet money that you'll be the one falling for him by the end of this, not me," he snickers as he scrolls through to find a photo that had the boy in it.
Luke's about to argue, but he peers over Alex's screen and accidentally finds out that this Reggie Peters is kind of stunning. His feed is humble, but Luke can make out the boy's gentle, handsome features on even the scarcest of photos. He looks kind, approachable. Like he could give a really good hug. Luke’s making a mental note to stalk the username when Alex speaks up again.
"I'll send you his contact information so you can both figure out that you don't hate each other first, yeah? But I can sort it all out. If that's all that's stopping you from your literal dream, you bet your ass we're figuring out how to make this work," Alex states firmly, eyes warm and genuine as he places a hand on Luke's shoulder.
Luke returns a soft smile, before he's wrapping Alex up in a tight hug. "You're the best."
Luke still doesn’t bother learning the itinerary. He has better things to do in the last week before their trip, like packing and going out of his way to follow Reggie on every social media platform he could find, including his SoundCloud (he’s glad to find that Alex’s roomie is not a SoundCloud rapper, but Mercer was not lying about the country music). He learns that Reginald likes putting late 2000s-esque filters on his posts, that he tweets song lyrics sometimes to match his mood, and that their mode of transportation for the next few weeks is a van named Caroline. They chat, too, beyond Luke’s subtle stalking, and he learns that Reggie named the vehicle after both Sweet Caroline and All Time Low’s Caroline. Luke could live with that. It takes them exactly three days to make a group chat and hit it off, and everyone’s pretty happy with the arrangement.
It’s while Alex is sorting things out with Luke’s and his parents about transporting their things that it begins to get complicated.
And Luke kind of guesses that there’s some sort of complication when he meets Alex in his garage, pacing, four days before they were set to leave. At that point, he’s nearly ready to become a runaway of sorts, to argue once again with his mother until he makes her cry or give in. He hates it, but he has the speech ready. Because he knew that it felt last minute—that it was last minute—but he also knew that it felt right , so he was ready for the fight.
“Alex, hey, dude, you’re okay,” he drops his book bag immediately to stop the other boy in his tracks, catching him by the shoulders mid-pace. “I’m sorry, man, I knew I should’ve been the one to talk to them. You know how it’s a touchy topic for them, don’t even worry about it-” he begins to ramble, but before he can promise that he’ll fix everything, Alex interrupts.
“Your parents are chill with it, Lu, I promised them I’d take care of you,” he sighs, first. But that just leaves Luke as puzzled as before.
“Then… the pacing?” Luke points out with a curious look. Alex starts to delve into his explanation, but it flies over Luke’s head in a blur.
Apparently, he read the situation wrong in its entirety. No, no, his parents were okay with it. Maybe not completely, but at least to the extent that they trusted Alex. It was okay, as long as the boys took care of themselves (read: as long as Alex took care of Luke) and as long as Luke would promise to come home if things turned messy. They’d check in weekly, and after three months, they’ll pull the plug on any help to see if he can make it work. By the holidays, they’d talk about if it was all worth it. It barely took them an hour in total to convince them and sort Luke's few things out. The issue actually came up from Alex’s side.
“I don’t know where everyone even got this idea! Thinking that sending me off will straighten me out? Do they know what California is?” Alex bitterly laughs, incredulous. “Not that I’m ungrateful. I’ll use the plane ticket, I just feel so bad for bailing on you guys.”
Luke pouts as he takes a seat and starts properly listening.
“So I was right, your ‘rents sorted out your whole move without you knowing?” he can't help but laugh, too.
“I know, they just can’t wait to get rid of me,” Alex plays along with a snort. “But, no, it was my aunt, she thought it’d be a sweet gift, I guess. Which is weird because I’m pretty sure she’d called me a... No one’s been this nice to me in the last, like, three years. They must really believe that college is gonna be the game changer if they’re all willing to all turn on their heels like that.”
It seemed that his parents flaunted his admission to UCLA in every accessible corner of the internet, including his mother’s Facebook. Which was touchy, because that particular corner of the internet was filled with relatives who were praying him into something he was not. Spreading all sorts of propaganda. But in any case, Alex’s entire extended family knew of the school’s prestige, and they took it as a sign that he was returning to the cold cut, straight-aligned plan that was laid out for him by the very moment he was born. If they squinted, they could ignore what they didn’t like about the boy, and focus on his university excellence. Which is exactly what they did. Grad parties, housewarming gifts, fake smiles and plane tickets. They smothered Alex.
Luke understands, it had to be a weird situation. He’s got Reggie and their itinerary on one hand while being handed human decency for the first time in forever by his family on the other. But Luke still hates to watch Alex pace a ditch into his garage floor.
“I know, okay, but it’s not exactly the end of the world, right? You can take the free ticket, say thanks, and never have to deal with her again. And then Reggie and I can just meet you there, right? You don’t need to worry, dude,” Luke assures softly.
Alex sighs softly, but he nods. “Yeah, it’s doable. I’m just so pissed that they didn’t talk to me. I’m supposed to be in control of my own life now. An adult. But it’s like I’m still being strung along and flaunted like a trophy. Shouldn’t I know what my next week is going to look like, a little more than in four days in advance? Shouldn’t they have cared to ask me about my plans with Reggie?”
Luke bit his lip. “I know, bud, I wish I could help. But at least it’s all over in a week. You’ll get control again,” he reassured softly.
“I just… I’d been planning this with Reggie for so long, I hate to leave him hanging,” Alex finally admitted.
“I could always take the ticket, and you could go with Reg,” Luke hums.
Alex groans. “No, they want to hold a goodbye party before driving me to the airport.” In any other case, Luke would have called him spoiled.
“Then we’ll meet you there. I’ll appease Reggie and his plans for now. And we can redo all the good stops with you another time,” Luke suggests instead, even if his heart wasn’t really that into the idea of planning out every hour during this trip. He knew that plans existed because of Alex’s anxiety, and Reggie must have been into it too. The least he could do was follow along.
“And are you sure you’re okay with that?” Alex asks, as if he’s read Luke’s mind. He nods along blindly.
The thing was, Luke had no back-up plan, if this fell through. Right.
Okay, it's not that he's opposed to it, actually. A little insane piece of him even allowed his heart to get giddy at some point. Reggie's a cute boy, they get along well enough online, and having a new friend while adjusting to a new city is always convenient. Luke could consider himself pretty lucky for having been handed such a perk right along with the road to his dream. It lined up nearly perfectly. At the same time, though, the thought of all that time alone is kind of daunting, and even more so when Alex is now warning him about Reggie’s allergies for when they have meals with just the two of them . Up until now, Luke sort of counted on his best friend filling in the awkward silence, following the plan, and bridging the two boys. Because Luke can be a lot, even for Alex. The last thing he wants to do is scare his new friend away, or poison him by eating a hazelnut in his vicinity. He glances at the clock and makes a wish that this doesn’t go poorly.
He should have learned the itinerary.

PeterPatterLina Paramedic Au no one asked for Chapter 2!
Chapter 1 is here
Two weeks after the car accident Julie is walking up the driveway of a quaint little home. Sebastian had been invited for a play date with the sweetest little twins in his class. Julie was a bit apprehensive, not knowing anything about the children’s parents, except that Sebastian had waved to the drive of the ambulance the previous week commenting, “ That’s one of Leo and Amelia’s dads!”. The tall blonde man had waved back with a smile. Sebastian had come home from school a few days later waving a piece of simple stationary, with a large green M embossed in the corner.
“ Mami can I go please please please?!!”
“ Let me read the note first Carino!”
Dear Ms. Molina,
I hope you are doing well after your accident. ( I hope that didn’t make me sound like a stalker, I was driving the ambulance) Amelia and Leo have been begging for weeks to have Sebastian over to play. We completely understand that you might be apprehensive to let him come over alone seeing as you do not know either of us, so if you would like to come with him and stay so that we may get to know you that would be wonderful! Would Saturday afternoon around 3 work for you? I look forward to meeting you!
-Alex Mercer
He had seemed nice enough in his note and Sebastian looked so excited so she scribbled a quick reply note, sticking it in Bash’s folder. “ Yes angel, we can go.”
Dear Mr. Mercer,
We’re doing well, thank you! Saturday sounds great! Bash came home quite literally bouncing at the idea, and he has been talking about how much fun Amelia and Leo are since the first day of school. Thank you for the invitation and I look forward to getting to know you and your family!
- Julie Molina
So it’s Saturday afternoon and she presses the doorbell, smiling down at Bash who’s nearly vibrating with excitement.
“Daddy, Papa, they’re here!!!!!” Two little voices sound in perfect synchrony from behind the door.
“ I got it Lex. Either hop down or hang on tight Mel.” Julie recognizes that voice but she can’t quite pinpoint it until the door swings open.
“ Julie! Hey Sebastian, is that arm doing better bud?”
Luke beams at her from inside the house, swinging little Amelia off his back with one arm as she grabs Sebastian’s hand and runs into the house giggling.
“ Hi Luke.” She can’t help but smile, though she is a bit confused.
“ Come on in, Alex and Willie are in the kitchen but they’ll be right in to meet you.”
“ Right, of course.” It’s like her brain is short circuiting at the sight of him out of his uniform. His arms, which she had taken notice of before, are on full display in his cut off band tshirt and she nearly trips waking in the door because she can’t quite look where she’s going with him there. He leads her into a living room where her attention is quickly pulled from Luke to the beautiful artwork on the walls. Before she has time to linger on the paintings a voice sounds from behind her.
“ Julie?” Her eyes widen is surprise but her smile brightens as she turns around to face Reggie. If Luke had made her short circuit then Reggie causes a complete system reboot. He’s in tight black jeans with a rip in the knee, and has a red flannel tied around his waist. His arms are on display too in his black tank top and… oh, he’s nicely toned too. Julie can feel herself blushing at the sight of him because, WOW it should be illegal to look that good in something so casual.
“ Reggie,” she barley manages to breathe out his name before theres a chuckle from behind her and she’s known that voice her whole life, how does Bobby know these boys? She hasn’t realized she said that out loud until he answers her question.
“ I’ve know these two and Alex since before I even met you Jules. They’re my best friends, basically my brothers.” As Bobby is explaining all this Luke and Reggie drink in the sight of her in the little purple sundress. Reggie blushes to match her as he shares a look with Luke. She is really beautiful and Lex had not bothered to warn them as to who was coming over, or Luke would have put on a whole shirt.
Julie looks up from Bobby as two more men walk into the room, hand in hand. She recognizes the blonde ambulance driver, Alex wasn’t it? The man next him, this must be his husband, is shorter than him, with long brown hair and a bright smile.
“ I’m so sorry about that, we had to get the cookies out of the oven. I’m Alex and this is my husband Willie, I’m so glad to finally meet you!” He offers her his hand to shake. Willie opens one arm in a greeting hug.
“ Hey there!”
“ Hi, it’s great to meet you too! You have a lovely home, and that painting is gorgeous.”
“ Thanks! I painted that a few weeks before we got married,” Willie tells her smile brightening.
“ Oh wow! You’re really talented!” She’s so nice too, thinks Luke.
“ Sit down, make yourself at home,” Alex gestures to the chair next to Reggie as he and Willie settle down beside Bobby on the couch. Julie takes the seat, looking at Reggie. There’s that crooked smile again and he runs a hand through his hair nervously but nothing has ever been so attractive, for goodness sake Julie get it together.
“ Glad to see you’ve all met,” Willie says, “ Getting to know our family comes with these three as well as us and the kids.”
They settle into easy conversation, talking and laughing for hours, Luke, Reggie and Julie sneaking glances at one another when they aren’t looking. They eat dinner that’s absolutely delicious, Alex tells her Reggie made most of it and she smiles as he blushes again. He can cook too? Gosh he’s too perfect. After dinner the kids settle in to watch The Princess and the Frog while the adults talk and laugh some more. That’s when Julie notices the way Luke and Reggie look at each-other and then their entwined hands. Oh. They really were too good to be true. They’re together, she realizes as her heart sinks. Still, she keeps talking and laughing with them and the others. Once the credits begin to roll on the kids’ movie she notices the time and it’s pretty late, she should really be heading home. They stand up and all say their goodbyes.
“ This was so much fun,” Alex tells her and she nods her agreement. “ We definitely need to do it again soon.”
“ Absolutely!” Sebastian is half asleep so Luke scoops him up and carries him to the car, Reggie walks with them too.
“ It was great to see you again darlin’,” Reggie smiles as he opens the car door for her.
“ Yes it was,” Luke agrees.
“ It was great to see you two too!” She smiles back, trying to remind herself that she can’t have them as he pulls out of the driveway. When Luke and Reggie get back in the house there are three men staring at them with their arms crossed.
“ What?” Luke tries, even though he already knows.
“ Oh my god,” Willie says through a laugh.
Bobby is snickering too when he says, “ That was pathetic.”
“ What?” Reggie is genuinely confused.
Alex smirks fondly at his two best friends, “ I have never seen anyone with a more obvious crush than the two of you have on that girl and I watched you dance around each other for 4 years!”

I'm soft for PeterPatter and 51. You’d marry me if I asked, right?
Luke doesn't even really use Facebook anymore, but every time he goes on it (which is like once every couple of months, he swears), it seems like his entire feed is either engagement announcements or wedding photos. He's pretty sure he doesn't even know most of the people he's friends with, or why they're showing up on his feed in the first place, but what he does know is that it's really fucking annoying.
It's entirely possible that he's mostly annoyed because, well, he sort of wishes he had someone who wanted to marry him. Most days he doesn't really mind being single but the older he gets the harder it is not to feel like he's defective or something.
His relationships never seem to last longer than a couple of weeks, maybe a few months if he's lucky. Even when he and Julie dated, they came to the decision that they were better off as friends barely two months in. And while he doesn't want her back like that, he probably would've married her if he'd thought she'd say yes.
"Hey, Reg?" Luke asks as he snaps his laptop closed. "Can I ask you something?"
"Is it about the rent?" Reggie asks with a wide-eyed look. "Because I told you--"
"No, it's--" Luke rolls his eyes, "it's not about the rent. It's something else."
"Oh." Reggie sighs in relief. "Okay, sure. What is it?"
Luke purses his lips and pauses for a moment. How can he put this in a way that doesn't make him sound totally crazy?
"You'd marry me if I asked, right?"
Judging by the look on Reggie's face, Luke didn't phrase it as well as he thought he did.
"I…" Reggie swallows hard and looks away as a bright blush practically envelops his face. "W-Why are you asking me?"
"I just…" Luke shrugs, "I dunno. We already live together. We're best friends, a-and it's not like either of us are dating anyone. I just…" Luke bites his bottom lip and shrugs again. "I just wondered."
Reggie nods his head as he considers all of the information that Luke just rattled off, and after a couple of seconds he shrugs.
"I guess, then… yeah? If you wanted to marry me, I'd say yes."
Luke snorts. "Okay, but would you wanna marry me?"
"Of course," Reggie blurts out, and a moment later he looks absolutely horrified that he said that out loud. "I-I mean…"
"Of course?" Luke repeats. "Why of course?"
"I didn't-- What I meant was--"
"Reg," Luke says in a voice so soft it shouldn't have been heard over Reggie's rambling, but he stops short anyway. "Do you… want to marry me?"
"I…" Reggie buries his face in his hands and groans. "I mean, m-maybe we should start with a date, first," he mumbles. A smile creeps its way across Luke's face and he slides closer to Reggie, who snaps his head up as soon as he hears Luke move.
"Do you wanna go on a date with me?" he asks, keeping his eyes fixed on Reggie's face.
"Y-Yeah," Reggie whispers, licking his lips before he starts rambling again. "But not if you don't wanna, because I don't--"
Luke cuts him off with a kiss; before this moment, he hadn't ever really thought about what it might be like to date Reggie. This isn't the first kiss they've shared, but most of those were either quick pecks on the cheek or sloppy, drunk kisses that didn't really mean anything.
When Luke pulls away from Reggie's mouth, the only thing he can think about is doing it all over again.
"You free tonight?" Luke asks, laughing breathlessly when Reggie replies with an eager nod. "Good," Luke replies before leaning in to kiss him again.
