This episode just confirms that Luz doesn’t want to go back and stay on Earth, she doesn’t have a life that she wants to return to she only wants to go back to her mom
Tumblr media
She looks so sad when she promises that she’ll stay in the human realm. Luz doesn’t want to give up her life on the Boiling Iles, she has actual friends that accept her for who she is, she has an awesome girlfriend, she has a cool principle that will actually listen to her ideas and take them seriously, she has a Found Family that means everything to her there. She doesn’t want to give all that up for the human realm that only looked down on and bullied her, called her weird, too much, annoying.

i really hope the kid that they cast to play percy jackson is a poc. like, if they cast a little white boy i'm not gonna hate on the actor or the show. tbh if you give hate to a literal child for stuff they most likely can't control, shame on you. but as i was saying, even though rick clearly intended for percy to be white, he is lowkey highkey coded as a poc.
also, little non-white kids get so little representation and it is so hard for them growing up seeing all of the protags being white. all the poc in most media i saw were reduced to side characters and even villians. i grew up with characters i related to and looked up to, but i never really saw strong latina leads. i recently started watching the owl house. if you don't know, the main character, Luz Noceda, is a young dominican-american bisexual girl who loves fantasy and is always looking for a good adventure. i immediately fell in love with the character, and i was so so so happy to find a character i actually saw myself in further than basic interests, and maybe some personality traits.
but damn, it took fifteen years of my life to find a character i like and relate to on such a level? it honestly kinda makes me sad that so many kids grew up with the same experience, you know? nothing compares to the feeling of looking at a piece of media and looking at the lead/one of the leads and in your mind saying, "that's me!!" as the biggest smile breaks out on your face. when the show comes out, i want young kids of color across the globe (wherever the show is available) being happy they finally relate in such a way to characters. and not just in percy. in grover, silena, clarisse, the stolls, calypso, etc. and don't even get me started on if they whitewash canon characters of color, like chris rodriguez, the di angelos, zoë. the gods also shouldn't all be white, but i don't think that needs much explaination.

I have a Luz headcanon. Like, if you're feeling down, and even if you're like highkey upset, he'll tell a joke. Which is a very common headcanon but!! I like to think he knows what's appropriate and what isn't, so the joke will probably be like, "Why did the chicken cross the road? To go see some chicks!" And it makes you laugh every time because of the sheer elementary grade dumbness of it.
This is!! So cute and perfect and I’m so sorry I only just got around to posting it now!! (the perils of mobile blogging)
I absolutely support this 100%, like he won’t make a joke that’s personal or relating to the situation if he thinks it’s something that will make you feel worse, like; he understands that there’s a difference between you spilling milk and looking a little bit stressed (cue him making a “no use crying about it” pun to snap you out of it), and you spilling milk and bursting into tears because things are just that bad (in which case he’ll tell the dumbest, most cheesy knock knock joke he can think of to try and get you laughing again)
and!! I think he’s very clever in that respect? Like, his comedic timing is spot on and before he even opens his mouth to tell a joke he already has an idea of how well it’s going to be received. He’s an extremely good judge of mood and atmosphere and knows exactly how to play on it to try and get the reactions he wants- it’s like, almost manipulative but in the most loving and caring sense?? He’s always out there trying to keep the mood up and to keep you smiling because he adores your smile so goddamn much and hates to see anyone (but especially you) upset!
Thank you so much for this ask awh!! I hope youre having a great day!
