[VD: 16 seconds animation featuring Sun and Moon from Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach set to a portion of Will Wood's Dr. Sunshine is Dead
First scene. The screen is black, and fades to blue. Red curtains fall closed from the sides of the screen and are flung open by Sun's hands. Lyrics: none
Second scene. Sun flings the curtains open and makes a grand entrance by twirling on his room's balcony above the ball pit and giving a "greet the sun" pose. He leaps off of the balcony into a dive. Lyrics: "When did I become afraid of the dark?"
Third scene is a ball pit. Sun bursts out and shields his eyes with a hand, squinting. His iris glow in the shadows cast on his face by his own hand. Lyrics: "Or are my eyeballs just yet to adjust to seeing the light?"
Fourth scene is a 180º view of the Superstar Daycare. When the lyrics mentions shadows, it pans to the right where the daycare is much darker. Lyrics: "The room I'm in is still the same. The shadows have not rearranged it."
Fifth scene. Sun is nervous and clasping his hands together. He steps back, and his shadow grows and transforms into Moon's shadow, which looms over him menacingly. Lyrics: "No the only thing that's changed is how I see at night." /End VD.]

Sunny Day Jack - Songs to Listen to While Descending into Madness
Hey, remember when I found Ian's perfect theme song for Sunshine in Hell? Well, I found one that fits Joseph's descent into madness and embracing the personality of Jack. Maybe I should make a playlist specifically for Sunshine in Hell sometime...
Not only does it have this manic energy that switches to disturbing and somber, a lot of the lyrics really give me the vibe of the suffering Joseph went through as he tore away at his very identity to become someone and something else.
When did I become afraid of the dark? Are my eyeballs just yet to adjust to seeing the light? The room I'm in is still the same, the shadows have not rearranged it No, the only thing that's changed is how I see at night I fumble for the switch and strap on infrareds and wish For sunshine when the morning's somewhere else But I can't change what time it is or dilate my irises Only what I look at, and I'm looking at myself I am not the sunshine, I am not the moon at night Well, who else could I be when I can hardly see? I am not the sunshine, I am not the moon at night I'm no one if I'm nowhere in between When did I become afraid of the dark? Was it when I left the cave and swore I'd never go back? If we can't see each other, then there's no more use for hiding I've decided I'll abide it; why deny the color black? I'm not a flower, not a solar-powered calculator Damn my eyes for seeing what's not there I'll trade in vision for a practiced intuition 'Til my fears come to fruition, I'm not scared I am not the sunshine, I am not the moon at night Well, who else could I be when I can hardly see? I am not the sunshine, I am not the moon at night I'm no one if I'm nowhere in between The future must know where you've been The past predicts the state you're in The present did and will not last Is, isn't, was, have, hasn't, has All that I ask is, keep those empty frames If nobody's in them, then no one is to blame For your self-portraits, sign another name Well, who should I be then, if I'll never be the same? I will be my sunshine, I will be my moon at night Who else could I be, when I can't fucking see? I will be my sunshine, I will be my moon at night I'm nowhere now, here's no one now to be And if dreams can come true, what does that say about nightmares? I'll stay awake tonight
It really gives me vibes of the animatic Sauce made where Jack antagonizes Joseph, particularly that high energy of Jack strutting around, being cheerfully scary and threatening. It also reminds me this classic picture of a cheerful Jack and a traumatized dead(?) Joseph.

It even has a sketch updated version you can check out here!

There's so many lyrics that make me think of Jack's broken mind and the effects of hell had on him. I have to really break it down to show all the different feelings/images that it conjures up, since there is so much here virtually every line.
"When did I become afraid of the dark?" When you were trapped in hell, Joseph. His loneliness was bad while he was alive, but his death made it so, so, so much worse. He's terrified of being alone and forgotten. He can't stand the cold numbness only broken up by pain. It's a night he can never sleep through or wake up from.
"The room I'm in is still the same, the shadows have not rearranged it. No, the only thing that's changed is how I see at night." It didn't get better. Nothing changed in that hell. It just repeated his death and the delusions of his decaying mind. The only thing that changed was himself into someone else, someone who could better handle the madness.
"I fumble for the switch and strap on infrareds and wish, For sunshine when the morning's somewhere else." Joseph struggles desperately somehow, someway to find some sort of light, some hope in hell. Unfortunately, his sunshine Mary is somewhere else, reborn as Alice. All he can do is wish for a miracle.
His sunshine was always like a miracle to him. She found him twice. He prays she'll find him again.
"But I can't change what time it is or dilate my irises, Only what I look at, and I'm looking at myself." Joseph can't change his circumstances. He can't feel anything but cold and pain, no matter how much he struggles. He's helpless.
The only thing Joseph can do is relive his death and look inward into an ever growing abyss that stares back at him. That abyss, that hell is changing him because he can't do anything but stare inward.
Joseph only has himself in this hell, and the longer he stares at himself, the more he hates what he sees.
"I am not the sunshine, I am not the moon at night." Joseph isn't as good as his sunshine was, in his opinion. He's not even as good as a fraction of her, like the sunlight is reflected on the moon. He doesn't even have a glimmer of her light either.
"I'm no one if I'm nowhere in between." In a way, he is nowhere, trapped between life and death. Joseph/Jack was erased. He became no one.
"When did I become afraid of the dark? Was it when I left the cave and swore I'd never go back?" Jack swore never to go back into the tape, never to be Joseph ever again. He's terrified of being alone, and he refuses to ever be alone and forgotten ever again.
"I've decided I'll abide it; why deny the color black?" Joseph gives into his darker impulses, his madness, his yandere side. He'll do anything to be free of this hell, to have his sunshine back.
Even if that means staining his soul irreparably with sin by torturing and killing others to do it.
He'll be damned to hell either way. He knows that from experience.
"Damn my eyes for seeing what's not there." When someone is put through sensory deprivation, they hallucinate, make up alternate personas, and the like. Jack himself was confused at first when the tape was played, asking if MC/Alice really was real, that he wasn't just dreaming.
How many times did Jack imagine someone was really there to save him, only to be disappointed by a cruel reality that he was still trapped in hell?
"I'll trade in vision for a practiced intuition. 'Til my fears come to fruition, I'm not scared." These lines sum up the whole Jack persona. He'll bury himself in that cheerful façade in order to deny his own fears that he'll be trapped in hell forever. He'll lose himself in a dream of his own making since he can never sleep again.
The only way to avoid being scared of an eternity in hell is denial, denial, denial.
"Well, who else could I be when I can hardly see?" He's Jack. He can't see himself as Joseph anymore. His mind can't handle it. He's blinded himself to his real identity by burying memories of anything else.
"The future must know where you've been." This feels like the video tape. The few traces left of what happened in the incident of 1984.
"The past predicts the state you're in." All the mistakes Joseph made and the few things that made him happy with himself are the reasons why he became Jack.
"The present did and will not last." Time is cruel, constantly marching forward and erasing the past. Jack lost everything so many times. He lost his identity, his dreams, his sunshine, and his life. Everything was lost so easily... how can he not dread losing it all again?
"All that I ask is, keep those empty frames." If nothing else, Jack is desperate to be remembered. Even if the person in the picture isn't himself anymore, he's desperate for at least some trace of him is remembered, even if it's this caricature of the character he played.
"If nobody's in them, then no one is to blame." A reference to LambsWork Productions covering up the part they played in Jack's death or the scandal the 1984 incident created. They can't have their reputation ruined if no one remembers the SunnyTime Crew Show after all.
"For your self-portraits, sign another name." This makes me think of all the autographs Joseph had to sign as "Sunny Day Jack." The character had his face, his voice... but it was a different name. He couldn't break character, because the character was what people loved. It's another reason why he's Jack now instead of Joseph.
"Well, who should I be then, if I'll never be the same?" Joseph Cullman is missing. [Redacted] Haberdae is dead and erased. He can't go back to being either. Who should he be? What name or persona should he use that will give him peace?
"Who else could I be, when I can't fucking see?" What is left for him but to be Sunny Day Jack? He has nothing else but that persona in this hell.
"I'm nowhere now, here's no one now to be." This line sums up Jack's state in the tape. He's nowhere, and he doesn't know how to be himself anymore. He is nothing... so he'll be the character he played.
He doesn't know how to be Joseph anymore because he can no longer see the good qualities he had as Joseph. Everything good was attributed to Jack in his mind, even his sunshine's love.
"I will be my sunshine, I will be my moon at night." He will be Sunny Day Jack. He will be his own hope, his sunshine. Losing himself to this alternate persona was the only thing he had to cling to in that cold and lonely hell. He clung to it like a piece of driftwood until the splinters dug into his hands and made him bleed madness.
"And if dreams can come true, what does that say about nightmares?" Now this shift makes me think of after Jack is freed and the lingering trauma from being in the tape. It's fitting because it comes after a drastic shift in the song to something somber, slowly building into something almost... hopeful?
His dream of being saved came true... but the nightmare of that hell still haunts him.
What if he goes back?
Jack could, just as easily, be sent away if Alice doesn't want him there. He needs to make sure that never happens.
Can Jack really dare to cling to this hope that he's been given, that this actually is reality?
Was he really saved, or is this just another delusion?
So even though Jack finally can sleep, he's finally safe... his fears still haunt him. He can't truly rest until he's sure, absolutely sure, that he won't lose his sunshine ever again. It's the hope he's desperate to hold onto.
"I'll stay awake tonight." The hell of the tape robbed Jack of his ability to sleep, both in the past and in the present. His trauma and mental scars run deep.
No doubt there were many nights where Jack just laid in bed and watched Alice sleep. He focused on her warmth, her steady breathing. Her heartbeat, her soft skin, her smell...
Alice is real. This sunshine is real. Jack knows that. He knows that deep down in his soul, but...
What if?
Just one minute longer. One second more to reassure himself.
This beautiful person Jack holds close in his arms is his salvation. Alice chose to save him. She promised to never forget him. She promised him forever.
Jack feared that the tape would be his forever.
So even though he's tired, Jack just needs a little bit more, just that extra moment more to drink in Alice with all of his senses so that he can truly believe that she delivered him from damnation.
Joseph is dead. The good parts of him, the light and hope he found in himself as that redacted identity are gone from even his memory. Jack is the only one there now.
Alice is the only sunshine Jack can see now, and he'll do whatever it takes to make sure he never loses that light, his hope, his love ever again.
Of course, during these moments of insecurity, Alice would stir, just a little, and cling to Jack tighter. Sometimes she even murmurs his name softly. She can feel that he needs her love through their connected souls.
The thoughts and feelings flow both ways. Sometimes Alice can pick up what Jack is thinking too, especially when his soul cries out to be seen, heard, felt, and loved.
Even though Jack didn't say a word, Alice heard his thoughts, his deepest need, and answered in a sleepy mumble, "Don't worry... I've got you. 'm not going anywhere..."
The soft words, slurred by a haze of sleep, sent a jolt through Jack, and all the love and gratitude he felt for her washed over him. Even in her dreams she would reach out to him, reassure him that she won't let him go. Even when in moments when his fear made their connection feel so tenuous, so fragile, all it took was a soft squeeze of her delicate hand always holding so gently onto his to quiet his fears.
Alice won't remember what she said in the morning, or anything else she mutters in a half-asleep haze, but she'll always remember Jack. She'll remember this man, no matter what name he uses, no matter what the fractured picture of his sanity looks like now. Their love is forever.
Even if Jack can't find the light in the man he used to be, even if the light of the good parts of Joseph are dead, buried, and forgotten in his mind... Jack can always believe in Alice, his sunshine. As long as he has her, he doesn't have to fear the dark or that he'll be banished back to hell.
Jack has the light of hope. It's in his sunshine Alice, and in the persona he wears. Most of all, it's in their love that lived on even after death.
Fortunately, over time, Alice will help him see that the light was always there even when he went any other name. With her help, he'll be able to finally find true peace and rest his weary soul in the gentle sunshine of their love. He'll finally be able to heal and truly shine in spite of the darkness.
Yeah, I know the song ends on a more somber note, but I'm all about happy endings and fluffy vanilla goodness. I couldn't help but add on a bit of a sweet reprise of sorts, even if not in so many lyrics. Sunshine in Hell is all about these wounded soulmates helping each other heal after all.

I love how almost everything is connected in will woods music so I’m gonna ramble about it (hopefully coherently) to spare people who know me in real life.
Firstly (I’ve already mentioned this on another post about this band), going all the way back to a verbal equinox, the character of dr sunshine shows up again in self- ish in dr sunshine is dead. Also the line “I’m far too weird to live, but I ain’t too weird to die” is reworked to “too weird to love, too scared to die” in outliars and hyppocrites.
Going to EIAL, the phrase “draw a line in the sand” from chemical overreaction is also seen in Marsha thankk you for the dialectics. And omg destroy to enjoy is pretty much just a reference to self- ish. The line “glory be satori but it’s all hallucinatory…” is in 2012, also with a reference to “mahaprajnaparimita” which also is mentioned in 2012.
Self- ish is pretty much all connected, with the first and last songs, self and ish, basically being one song split into two. Dr sunshine is dead, cotards solution and mr capgras are all connected musically, and also interestingly capgras and cotards are both mental illnesses, specially delusions, which makes their connection to dr sunshine make more sense (that might be a bit of a stretch though). The song with five names and hand me my shovel I’m going in are perfect parallels, and the repeated lyrics less tune of “gotta get to the bottom of this” playing in the second verse of the song with five names can also kinda be heard in wealth and hellness by human zoo in the bit will wood sings in. There’s also the reference to hand me my shovel I’m going in during half decade hangover. The song had come out in 2016, which was just over half a decade before icimi came out. 2012 is interestingly the only one without much of a connection. Not sure why yet, might just be for the sake of it.
The normal album. I love the normal album. Suburbia overture references the other songs so much and I love it. (There’s only one other album that I know does this: enter a beginners guide to faking your death by jhraiah- go listen to it). The first reference to another song is the line “myers briggs, okultra” which is a reference to Blackboxwarrior okultra. It’s also kinda interesting that it’s referenced alongside a “psychology” term as the song is full of psychology references. The second reference is “everybody knows that, nobody knows that, everybody’s all up in my- everybody’s all up in my- everybody’s all up in my business” which is a reference to …well better than the alternative. During the spoke part of vampire culture, the backing music is from Blackboxwarrior. The line “you pull out your roscharch like a paint by numbers treasure map” could be a reference to outliars and hyppocrates, in the line “prints of your fingers in the roscharch jigsaw say you saw a treasure map”. Finally and obviously, love me normally is referenced in the title of the song, and the end of the song is the beginning to love me normally. I don’t know if this is a stretch/ coincidence, but a part of good morning campers from chnt (or welcome to camp here and there, l can’t remember) kind of sounds like the part of outliars and hyppocrates: “who’s wanna be human anyways, i mean what do people do”.
I can’t find any connections that I haven’t already mentioned in icimi because I haven’t been listening to it as much (most songs make me cry), but its still a good album :D

Will Wood (and the Tapeworms) Songs as Ride the Cyclone Characters!
Recently decided to wade through Will Wood's discography more and I think some of the songs by the 30-something year old dude really embody them
How this half asleep rant will work:
[Character]: [Song(s)]
Explanation of why song is chosen
"Certain excerpts from the song I think embody the goober chosen"
Note: all songs wils be linked when they're written (mostly as youtube lyric videos), also this will probably be very long
Ocean O'Connell Rosenburg: The Main Character
Local ‘gifted kid’ teenager has yet to find out that the world doesn't revolve around her and stepping on anyone who doesn't fit in with her isn’t okay, more at 7
"I mean, imagine if protagonists just died in the first scene"
"I loot plot armor from NPC’s / Well, they are to me"
Noel Gruber: Suburbia Overture / Greetings from Mary Bell Township! / (Vampire) Culture / Love Me, Normally
This song (in my opinion) is really the embodiment of Noel's character. attempting to fit in, being told to "tone it down" by his mother until eventually arriving in the afterlife and essentially going "fuck it, we ball" with Noel's Lament (and Vampire Culture in this allegory) until eventually arriving at a state of peace with Love Me, Normally/It's Just a Ride
"a snowflake only matters in a blizzard"
Mischa Bachinski: 6up 5oh Cop-Out (Pro / Con & ¡Aikido! (Neurotic / Erotic)
6up 5oh with it's plot(?) of running from the police and proceeding to get mistreated by them is how Mischa is viewed by essentially everyone is Saskatchewan (and to an extent how he lets them see him). While ¡Aikido!, is more of his 'passion' side, specifically with Talia. The more aggressive reprise at the end of Aikido in the 2020 remaster also reminds me allot of the techno section of 'Talia'.
"It's never too late to embrace your fate"
"So we can touch instead of feel"
Ricky Potts: White Noise & Dr. Sunshine Is Dead
Imagine being so forgotten by everyone around you so the innocent bean stereotype is put on you automatically despite the fact that you’re real personality is far from that and then having a mini identity crisis over it
"You're not meant to sing along"
"I'm no one if I'm nowhere in between"
Jane Doe: Big Fat Bitchie’s Blueberry Pie, Christmas Tree, and Recreational Jell-o Emporium a.k.a. “Mr. Boy is on the Roof Again” (Feat. Pasta by Sneakers McSqueakers) [From “B.F.B.’s B-Sides: Bagel Batches, Marsh-Mallows, & Barsh-Mallows”]
No thoughts, story, or plot, just funky carnival music
Constance Blackwood: Falling Up
This song is essentially 'Sugar Cloud' but more melancholy. This is what I'd imagine a song about Constance's life before she died would be about, or Constance's Monologue in song form. What especially reminded me of her monologue was the rapid fire listing of objects and even the title 'Falling Up' being repeated in the song feeling like the roller coaster when it derailed. They're falling but being upside down it feels more like they're flying.
"You make a wish upon the dead, but turn and call it a weed"
"Much larger than life, 'cause from such height / Life looks awful small"
"Well, I cry on skies of blue linoleum, Clouds o' spilled milk"
Penny Lamb: Willard!
Aspiring animal conservationist doesn't know how to relate to "normal" people partially due to her upbringing. Parts of the song were the singer wants animal traits the make their life easier reminds me of Penny's whole "I vomit fire" thing before absolutely destroying JK-47
“Until frustration makes me wish my teeth were sharp as yours”
“I've never understood what humans do and want / It's quite confusing to me to try to connect / Never learned how I should feel, instincts somehow stunted”
Extra characters outside of the choir:
I'll go less in depth for these as i think most of these are self-explanatory
Karnak: Memento Mori: the most important thing in the world
funky sentient machine is constantly aware of his imminent death and decides to be a goofy goober because of it
Virgil: Tomcat Disposables
rat just wants to vibe and chew on a power cable. oopsies he's dead now
Monique Gibeau: White Knuckle Jerk & Front Street
oh em gee she's so gorgeous and dangerous and the world described in Noel's Lament is very gritty and a little gross
Ezra Lamb: Euthanasia (Live)
this mostly feeds into my hc that Ezra ditched school to go to the fair with the choir and had to see his sister get beheaded, being completely inconsolable, and not being listened to because he's "a kid looking for attention"
It's the end yay!!
That's the end folks! I really enjoyed making this (i am a very big fan of both rtc and will wood) there were a lot of other songs i wanted to include (skeleton appreciation day, i/me/myself etc.) but didn't because either
a. they fit too many characters for me to just pin one to them or
b. the character already had two songs assigned to them
i hope anybody reading this is having a good day/night and listens to will wood more in the future ig

i wanna know if this is common knowledge among will wood fans- some songs definently come in pairs, right?
self- and -ish are obvious, but then there's also tomcat disposables and willard!, which i kind of consider the same story. both songs seem to be from the perspective of someone who feels outcast or different from everyone around them, to a degree where they relate to (or see themselves as) more animal than human. although, tomcat disposables seems to be about trying your best to fit in, but failing to, whereas willard! is more about giving up on trying to fit in, embracing what makes you different, maybe even thinking what makes you different makes you better. the end of willard! also references tomcat disposables directly through instruments, having the tomcat disposables melody at the very end.
then there's also hand me my shovel, i'm going in! and the song with five names, which are the same idea presented from two different points of view. both songs also use digging as a metaphor for introspection, hand me my shovel being explicitly pro-introspection, whereas 5 names seems to be against it. the choruses of both songs have such similar lyrics, yet seem to disagree: "this is not enough, this is not enough to prove it yet! no, i need to hit the bottom." "you could break a shovel when you break new ground; you dig dirt up when you dig deep down. you should know better than that by now, it's not profound to know that you could never know." these are two sides of essencially the same argument: should you try to find out who you are, or not?
dr. sunshine is dead and cotard's solution also seem connected, both by their theme and by the cotard's solution piano melody (and the accompanying lyrics) also being at the end of dr. sunshine. both songs have something to do with death, more specifically someone believing they're dead (this is cotard's delusion, which the first song gets its name from). cotard's solution is very clearly from the perspective of someone who believes that they are dead. it's also heavily implied this person is suicidal, with lyrics like "i wish that i were dead" and "i wanna make my murder look like a suicide", and the backing vocals singing "kill me" towards the end. i think this is related to the person's delusion; the suicidality almost presents itself as body dysphoria in their case, because they truly believe they are dead, so being inside a body that is still very much alive feels wrong (presented through lyrics like "you do the math, who's looking back? that's not me!" and "check in the mirror to see how i look; i look different in different ways.") the protagonist of dr. sunshine is dead seems to have very similar thoughts: "for your self-portraits, sign another name. who should i be then, if i'll never be the same?". dr. sunshine seems to be more about re-inventing yourself, thinking that the person you used to be is dead, and now you must resume a new identity. i'm not sure if this sort of thinking it directly related to cotard's delusion (i'm by no means an expert, i'm just some guy on the internet who really likes analyzing songs), but it does seem directly related to cotard's solution.
songs that might not be directly connected but i still think are worth mentioning include chemical overreaction and skeleton appreciation day. the last verse of chemical overreaction follows the same chord progression as skeleton appreciation day; you can hear the same melody in the background, played by an electric guitar. the themes of the two songs seem seperate, though.

I made an Astarion playlist because I am a little more than a little hyperfixated on this game and him.
Tumblr media
Astarion, The Pale Elf Playlist
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2HsZxHcyCzhRBAHLoJ6LFX
It's a mix of his romance plot, his two endings, songs I feel catch his vibe, and songs I feel like could be sung to him. Oddly it IS in an order but absolutely can be played in shuffle.
((Some highlights from the list)):
White Dove- Koda
I've got a bone to pick/ Somebody showed you all of the horror/ You weren't born with it// You're a silver tongued jackboot thug with/ White skin but you're no white dove/ And you're scared of us 'cause we show you love/ Until there's none of us left to love/ None of us left to love//I had this feeling that you'd betray me/If I gave too much and you took too much
There's so much to say, but this is just Astarion in general. He's true commitment avoidant, got this way because Cazador, and uses the people he's around. This song is a lot of his flaws.
Dr Sunshine is Dead- Will Wood and the Tapeworms
Well, who should I be then, if I'll never be the same?// I will be my sunshine, I will be my moon at night/ Who else could I be, when I can't fucking see?/ I will be my sunshine, I will be my moon at night/ I'm nowhere now, here's no one now to be// And if dreams can come true/ what does that say about nightmares?/ I'll stay awake tonight
This speaks to Astarion's strengths. He is strong willed and will do anything he can in order to succeed and survive, even if it's not something good for him. He'll depend on himself. The lyrics seem tame but that part of the song is so raw and emotional it gets me everytime. It fits him, as a lot of Will Wood songs do.
Good Looking Boy- Suki Waterhouse
You stop for breath and I sped up/Just to impress you// The skyline falls as I try to make sense of it all/ I thought I'd uncovered your secrets, but turns out there's more
This one is singing to him. For those that fell for him and found out he was just using you. Open to either him eventually reciprocating or not, but it reminded me of Act II romance conversations.
Hail To The King- Avenged Sevenfold
Hail to the king/ Hail to the one/ Kneel to the crown, stand in the sun/ Hail to the king// Blood is spilt while holding keys to the throne/ Born again, but it's too late to atone
This one is steeped in Ascended route imagery. Like those lyrics? For real. The obvious, he's in power and can stand literally in the sun and will make people kneel in his victory. But also the last two lines I included, he achieved it through irreversible sacrifice. It's such an easy song to attribute.
Habits (Stay High)- Tove Lo
You're gone, and I gotta stay high all the time/ To keep you off my mind/ High all the time to keep you off my mind// Spend my days locked in a haze/ Trying to forget you, babe, I fall back down/ Gotta stay high all my life to forget I'm missing you
More towards the breaking up with Ascended Astarion route. Not meaning he'd be on drugs, but just trying to distract himself and high with power and conquest to try and ignore the fact he won't move on as easy as he says he can. Also covers some of the constant fear he now lives in, from what the subtext says of he now is more fearful post-ascension than pre.
Oleander- Mother, Mother
And if you leave me/ Rest assured it would kill me// Like an oleander/ White, white leaves/ Of an oleander/ White like me
This one I feel like is after he's really truly fallen for whoever he's with. Him singing to his love interest. Also he's pale white and snow white hair so theme and literally like oleander.
-----+++++++-------
I could go on, because I could seriously write a long character analysis based off each song. But this post is long enough lol.
Will make one for Wyll, and my specific Tav at some point.

Tagged by @aranarumei !!! Thanks!!
five shuffled songs from my favorite playlist
My current favorite playlist is. Ensemble stars songs. Im going to refrain from that one. If anyone cares it would be all Valkyrie songs. instead we’re looking at my general favorite songs playlist i called “high energy” because they’re mostly fast and well. High energy. And a little evil sounding. Minor notes and all that.
Got long bc im in verbose freak February. Going under a cut
1. Channel 01 Clown by Teddy Hyde
this is what I mean by evil sounding. Like YELLING and EMOTION and a strained smile and wild eyes. And like an almost cyclical sound. Fun fact i found this song from a cover i found on tumblr and im really sad that version isnt on Spotify. It was so good. Alas….
2. I Am… All Of Me cover by Victor McKnight, Penny Parker, Noah McKnight
yeah the shadow the hedgehog song. This is also what i mean by evil sounding. And fast paced. Also yeah this is the cover used in Snapcube Shadow The Hedgehog realtime fan dub. Really funny stuff…
3. Inside Story by Little River Band
got into this band bc i got really into cassette tapes and my grandma gave me a tape of this album and told me they were one of my grandpas favorite bands. And he was so right for that. This ones got a little of that evil sound… those minor notes… did you hear what the victim said…. One time i looped this song manually on my cassette player while doing a puzzle for like 5 hours probably
4. フィクサー (Fixer) by ぬゆり (nuyuri)
linking a specific cover on YouTube that i listened to. An embarrassing amount truly. And im sad its not on Spotify. But i love this song soooooooooooooo so so so much. Like the radio sounds the clapping snapping clicking sounds. So good.
5. Dr. Sunshine Is Dead by Will Wood and the Tapeworms
mmmm yeah those silly circus cyclical sliding evil sounnddssss… yeah just a really fun fast beat i love it
BONUS. Seishunnante Iranaiwa by Sangatsu no Phantasia
bonus because this was the next song that came on and i love it SOOOO MUCH… song associated with my favorite fic ever. Just looked up the full translated lyrics for the first time im crushed. Been going on vibes and slight japanese understanding alone which were mostly correct but ooohhh. Song about summer and growing up and not wanting to grow up. Let this summer last forever. Don’t let it slip through my grasp. Don’t move on without me. Im in shambles.
Anyways i could genuinely go on forever about songs. That Unwanted Animal by The Amazing Devil came on next i could probably write an essay on that one if i really wanted to. But im not i promise. Maybe some other time. I love sooonnngggsssss you guys…. Not tagging anyone specifically but feel free to do it yourself ^_^

Hello im. Sorry to bother you but I see you on my dash as "the will wood person"(well also the tf2 person and the wof person but that doesn't pertain to this) and was thinking about listening to his stuff but idk where to start do you got any recommendations?
Yippee!! I managed to be so Demented about William Woodard that it made me the "Will Wood person" to somebody :))) That's so silly
Tumblr media
Okay, so recommendations. It's...really quite difficult to recommend stuff from Will because a lot of his music is quite varied and it kinda just depends on what music you've already listened to. If you've gone down the Jack Stauber, Tally Hall, or Lemon Demon path, chances are you're going to be somewhat on board with his music.
Will Wood is an experimental music artist who never exactly sticks to one sound. He said he doesn't quite like it. Self-Ish, his second album, he considers a concept album due to the fact that it's mostly grungy and rough vocals with frantic and wild instrumentals all with lyrics spouting stuff relating to a singular theme. However, if you ask me there are some things about him that stick out as being "Will Wood".
Piano. A lot of his songs have piano. In some places, what other songs would have as a guitar riff, is a piano bit. Piano (along with the baritone ukulele and also occasionally glockenspiel) is his main instrument.
Jazzy instruments. Saxophones, trumpets, all that. In his latest main album, In Case I Make It, Will forgos that sort of jazzy tunes a lot in favour of more calm and folk songs, but they still linger.
Tons and tons of lyrics. Will's lyricism is one of the main draws of his music to me. He often writes about his own experiences with his mental health and struggles in his songs. Themes of mental illness, being loved despite being human, and generally just being a person trying to get through this messy, cold world.
Yeah that's about goes for the constants.
Okay, so, depending on your music taste, I don't know how to quite recommend stuff. His newer album, In Case I Make It, is a lot more folksy and softer than his previous work. It still has that Will Wood flare, but just with less loud screaming matches between Will and an alto sax. His earliest albums (Everything is a Lot and Self-Ish) are more edgy and dark with those grungy and gravely vocals. The Normal Album is a middle ground.
I personally believe the best way to experience Will Wood is to listen to the albums, but for individual songs? Here's some ordered from softer to more intense.
Skeleton Appreciation Day (Bones), Everything is a Lot
When Somebody Needs You [Song], Camp Here & There
That's Enough, Let's Get You Home., In Case I Make It
White Noise, In Case I Make It
Venetian Blind Man, Camp Here & There
...well, better than the alternative, The Normal Album
Falling Up, In Case I Make It
Against the Kitchen Floor, In Case I Make It
The Main Character, In Case I Make It
Memento Mori, The Normal Album
Laplace's Angel (Hurt People? Hurt People!), The Normal Album
I/Me/Myself, The Normal Album
Marsha, Thankk You for the Dialects, but I Need You To Leave, The Normal Album
BlackBoxWarrior - OKULTRA, The Normal Album
Suburbia Overture, The Normal Album
The Song With Five Names, Self-Ish
Mr. Capgras, Self-Ish
6up 5oh Cop-Out (Pro/Con), Everything is a Lot
Dr. Sunshine is Dead, Self-Ish
Hand Me My Shovel, I'm Going In!, Self-Ish
Aaannnddd if we're giving song recommendations, I also highly, HIGHLY recommend checking out his live stuff. Not just his live albums (those are fantastic though), but live performances recorded of him. They range from in-studio and professionally done recordings to somebody with a phone. I love them.
Here are some performances I recommended for one reason or another.
The entire BBQ show, as it shows off Will's character a lot as well as being fairly charming and fun (also good music)
Marsha Live in the Studio
Mr. Capgras (this one's I think something he did with patreon people)
Mr. Capgras/White Knuckle Jerk (WFMU radio)
Yeah that's about everything off the top of my head. See ya.

Do you have a specific song lyric or quote that you associate with your ocs? If so, what is it?
Honestly the first thing that comes to mind is "well who else could I be, when I can hardly see?" From dr sunshine is dead by will wood. Mostly because Patrick doesn't see many other options than the one he's set his mind too. And because of what he's become thanks for he experiments, he doesn't see himself as anything else than what he was created for. Not sure about the others tho lol
Thanks for the ask!

hello im here to request 40s doc for the song post 👀
Hehe i figured youd be the one to ask for him. Okay here they are:
Rat by Penolope Scott- About someone losing faith in a scientist- gives the vibes of doc losing faith in oppenheimer. “When I said take me to the moon i never meant take me alone/i thought if mankind toured the sky it meant that all of us could go/but i dont wanna see the stars if theyre just one more piece of land/for us to colonise for us to turn to sand” in particular makes me think of him
Laplaces Angel (Hurt People? Hurt people!) by Will Wood- “have you ever died in a nightmare?/woke up surprised you hadnt earned your fate?” And “so if you wash your hands of where youve been/until you flood the second floor/neatly fold your skeletons/but stull cant shut the closet door” give me such 40s doc vibes its insane
Oblivion by Halfy and Winks- look. I know its a dream smp fan song. But they make good music! And this absolutely murders me with the 40s doc vibes. The entire first verse fits him so well. “Pride in myself was something i swore would never die/gaining respect means giving up a past life/the illusion crafted by my arrogance/had protected me from the wrong that i couldnt admit” PLEASE. The song is about guilt and regret and its so perfect for him
Dr. Sunshine is Dead by Will Wood- another will wood song! This one gives me the vibes of someone who’s afraid of themself, which fits 40s doc beautifully. Particularly the last line. “And if dreams can come true, what does that say about nightmares?/ill stay awake tonight”
Run Boy Run by Woodkid- this one makes me think of someone trying to run from themself “run boy run/they’re dying to stop you/run boy run/this race is a prophecy/run boy run/break out from society” it sort of gives me the vibes of how hectic it mustve been while they were working on the bomb
21 Guns by Green Day- this one almost feels obvious to me? It’s about wanting peace in a time of war. “When you’re at the end of the road/and you lost all sense of control/and your thoughts have taken control/when your mind breaks the spirit of your soul” reminds me of him. Also at the start of the chorus when he says “one, twenty-one guns” its like 1.21 which is fun
Wires by The Neighbourhood- this one (i think?) is about someone not being in control of themself due to obligation. “I see the wires pulling while you’re breathing/you knew you had a reason/it killed you like diseases” reminds me of how i think 40s doc probably feels about his actions. It ended the war, but at what cost?
What Ive Done by Linkin Park- this whole song fits him really well so its hard to pick a lyric to highlight. “Put to rest/what you thought of me/while ive cleaned this slate/with the hands/of uncertainty” makes me think of how doc would react to marty finding out (assuming he knew him from the 30s)
Killer by The Hoosiers- well it’s just right off the gate with this one. “I hate my work/but im in control/im fearless now/but it cost my soul” c’mon thats so good for him! Theres also a later line, “i conduct fear like electricity/a manmade monstrosity” and i think thats his feelings about the project and his part in it exactly
Radioactive by Imagine Dragons- this one gives me the sense of doc a bit further past the bombs being dropped, reluctantly accepting the new norm. “All systems go/the sun hasnt died/deep in my bones/straight from inside” particularly makes me think of him

dr sunshine is dead by will wood
my first instinct was sirius, and that's what i'm going to go by. the song is all over the place, much like sirius' thoughts (especially after running away, which is what the song first came across as like)
"When did I become afraid of the dark? / Are my eyeballs just yet to adjust to seeing the light?" <- this part makes me think of when he first moved in with the potters, and readjusting from the cold of the black family to the warmth of the potters. he realized that the world is much better than he had been let to see, and he's adjusting to the new reality
"Was it when I left the cave and swore I'd never go back? / If we can't see each other, then there's no more use for hiding" <- "the cave" can be used as a metaphor to the dark place je used to be in. now, when he and his biological parents do not keep in contact anymore, he is free to do whatever he wants, not needing to hide what he wants, hence the second lyric
"For your self-portraits, sign another name / Well, who should I be then, if I'll never be the same?" <- the "another name" can be leaving the black family behind and embracing his chosen family (be it the marauders, the potters, or hogwarts as a whole) and therefore "changing himself" for the better. the second lyric is an afterthought of running away, sort of a realization that he's, in the world's eyes, not a black anymore, and therefore has to reshape himself in order to be his own person, and he's a bit lost in who he should be

So I’ve been listening to Will Wood lately and started to associate his song from the Self-ish album to tma. So here are some loosely connected things that i found    (spoiler warning btw)
Self fells like Jon at the end of s2 all defeated and stuff giving a sad song as he  sits on the floor in Georgis apartment. Here are some lyrics that express that: “We'll write history books from memories“ - trying to figure out what the hell is happening from the statements that people give “Well, they always ask you not to leave“ - Elias forcing very nicely asking his employees not to leave “No, I won't come back and be the same“ - Jon and everyone being change about the things they experienced
2012 is about Jon in s3 being scared about becoming an avatar for the eye, as in scared that he’ll lose himself. “I was an existential criminal, so innocently cynical Ignorant as fuck but a proud individual Originally meant to live a God-damned miracle Mighta’ve been metaphysical, but I think it was medical” - basically s1 Jon “Never finding a theory” - Jon not understanding how the statements fit together in a coherent way “Did you lose yourself?” - Jon is afraid that he is in fact losing himself
I dont really have anything on Cotard's solution so we’ll move on
Mr. Capgras Encounters a Secondhand Vanity is the theme song of the not!them. I could go to every lyric and say how they related but that would mean that id have to copy paste the whole songs. Still, here are some examples: “Levitating off the ground“ - the first ep, the guy floating a few cm of the ground “Is another man wearing your face!“ - do i really need to say anything at this “Somebody to replace yourself“ - the not!them association with the stranger “Ready in your head and fed upon your memoirs” - again the not!them fit perfectly here
The Song With Five Name is my favorite. I imagine every  entity coming together and making fun of Jon “You can break a shovel when you break new ground You dig dirt up when you dig deep down” -this lyric is about Jon in s2 and 3 breaking every connection he has with other people while trying to uncover the truth “Don't you forget That all you project Is just to protect you from The void within the form“ - again this is about Jon trying to protect himself from the truth with skepticism in s1 “And we'll have nothing left for us to lie to No matter what we seek you'll never find truth” -t he entities telling Jon that he’s to dumb for trying to find the truth
Hand Me My Shovel, I'm Going In! this is kinda like self in the sense that it’s a Jon solo but this one takes place in the peak of his paranoia in s2. The whole vibe of the song is jon frantically doing anything in his power to figure out what is happening. “It just seems unlikely that it's me who was to blame” - i know i said that this song would fit in s2 but this line specifically remind me of the s3 climax when  i think?? it was Sarah Baldwin that used Gertrude and Leitner skin to make Jon think that the end of the world was his fault “This is not enough, this is not enough to prove it yet No, I need to hit the bottom                                                                              Gotta get to the bottom of this” - pretty self explanatory, Jon trying to find the bottom of things “"Don't look down! You'll fall and break your back!" But that just reminds me how There's more to be found beneath the black” - the “Dont look back” is Elias telling Jon to stop doing stupid thing but he doesn’t listen “Gotta get to the bottom of this Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey Gotta get to the bottom of this If it kills me”  - the last bit of the son makes me think of when Jon got an axe and broke that table. The last chorus fits perfectly with that bit, it has that frantic energy and desperation that Jon is having while he understands how massively he fucked up
Dr. Sunshine Is Dead is just a song for the dark, point blank, so i will not go into it
ish is self part 2. Theres not much to say here, it again plays into Jons fear of losing himself “And if I change my self can I still stay me? Or did I just change my mind? No it doesn't matter who I am”
Now if you read all of that  first i must thank you for putting up with me for that long, you may be thinking that there is no connection and that im grasping for straws or that because the message of the album is about the fear of losing yourself it would obviously share that theme with tma since that is like a main plot point in the podcast and not everything that shares a theme is connected.
And you know what, you’re right. Im not writing this because i think that i found  definite proof that the album and tma are connected, I dont even thonk that the connections I found are that good. First of all, I wrote this because it was fun and it gave me a chance to talk about two of my favorite thing and because I find it really cool how the human mind can find connections between thing that arent related at all and this is an example of that. So, thats all i got. If your a tma fan go give this album a listen because its good and who know maybe youll also think that it fids with the podcasts vibe and if you’re a will wood fan go listen to tma because i said so.
Goodbye now, thanks again for reading and have a nice day :]
ps. Honorable mention of ok ultra from the normal album for kinda feeling like how i imagine taking and reading a statement feels like

DESIGN MY NEXT TATTOO!!
Hey Tumblr :))) guess what I can afford right now!?!
I’ve got a prompt for ya:
“A wish in a bottle”
To be more specific, I’d like to get a bunch of lightbulb terrariums, running up and down my right side with different things in them! One at a time, I am a poor college kid.
I’ve already got one with a moon and some mushrooms, looking for some more!!
This should be mostly in black ink— maybe one day I can afford one or two colored ones! Let’s say not tooo detailed, around $200 or less, but I wanna see some cool stuff!! My current one is approximately the size of my phone screen, so let’s keep them about that size!!
Ideas for the inside:
- Crystals
- Waterfall
- River
- Pond
- Colliding planets (light bulb exploding around it?)
- Terrarium
- Snails
- Bees
- Butterflies
- Mushrooms
- Flowers
- Foliage
- Cracked light bulb
- Shelf mushrooms on outsides of it
- Cracked light bulb with nature over taking it
- Dumb lil dino
- Lightning
- Fireflies
- Spirals
- Galaxies
- Kaleidoscope
Song lyrics that hit me hard to potentially draw inspo from and get an idea of who I am and maybe some important symbolism and also I don’t know I started making this whole list at 3 am one night and this felt like a good idea to include:
- “Dandelion seeds yet to ride on the breeze” - Falling Up by Will Wood
- “Stratospheric fear of catastrophe” - Falling Up by Will Wood
- “Circles and spirals in mind” - Good Day by Tally Hall
- “Spastic light specs brighter than the bluest skies” - Punch it, Punk by Ferry
- “Your makers must have kissed in cosmic dust” - Little Fang by Avery Tang
- “My friend you’ve got a friend in me, let’s go and make more enemies” - Willard! By Will Wood
- “I’ve got a ray gun in my bag, a treasure map under my hat, and I’ll never miss a head shot or a dotted line”
- “Bleed your magic out” - Bleed Magic by iDKHOW
- “I am quantum physics” - I/Me/Myself by Will Wood
- “Floating in the summer sky, 99 red balloons go by….. just to prove the world was here, and here it is, a red balloon; I think of you, and let it go” - 99 Red Balloons (Goldfinger cover)
- “I will be the moon at night” - Dr. Sunshine is Dead by Will Wood
- “I am a chemical reaction” - Chemical Overreaction by Will Wood
- “Everything is better when you’re learning… everything is made to keep on turning” - You and Me by Tally Hall
- “Lots of questions answered it’s metaphysical, astronomical!” - The Whole World and You” by Tally Hall
- “On the wings of a dream, so far beyond reality” - Through the Fire and the Flames by Dragonforce
- “Strap my snorkel on, stop crying on the kitchen floor” - Underwater World by Ratwyfe
- “I wanna see in color, not some shade of pale blue” - Heartbeat by Point North
- “I never want to leave this sunset town” - Good Times by All Time Low
I hope people see this and send me stuff!!! Happy drawing :))
Um let me know if anyone wants my current one as an example— oh I hope people see this!
