Not that anybody will really care, but I’ve been MIA for about a week because my family took a trip to San Francisco to visit a college over there. Not only do I like editing aesthetic boards, but I enjoy photography quite a bit too. Here are some of my favorite pictures that I took.

It was pretty overcast and cloudy while we were there, but, being from Seattle, it wasn’t a big deal. Although it was a bit sucky to take cloudy pictures lol. But I definitely had fun :)

Ibu Anne's Birday Magic Chocolate Fondu by Andrew Priest Via Flickr: Ibu Anne's special birthday Magic Chocolate Fondu at La View Resturant, the Birdsnest, Kapu Kapu Barong, Ubud, Bali, Indonesia. Taken hand held with the Olympus 17mm F1.8. Only light was a small candle on the table, the four birthday candles and Ibu Anne using her phone. This was a really cool "party trick" with the cake being a chocolate dome (didn't realise it was chocolate at first, thought it was a dome over the dessert). When the hot milk chocolate was poured on it, it slowly opened up like a blossoming flower.

Infrared photography is so easy these days! I recently bought an infrared filter (or better “near infrared”, a Hoya R72) for use with the Ilford SFX200 film – not a “real” infrared film (it does not react to heat radiation, but only to some longer wavelengths up to around 740 nm). I just put it on my Olympus Pen F Digital – and got this result “out of the box”! The Pen F is not perfect for infrared photography, because it has an infrared cut-off filter in front of the sensor (like every digital camera that is not converted to infrared – without it, or with a really weak IR filter, black cloth becomes purple; you might have seen this, e.g. with the Leica M8). But it looks to be a little bit weak, so that it is at least usable. A test with my Sony A7 has shown much worse results (not usable at all, so I’m lucky with the Pen F).

The biggest problem with the Pen F is the low sensitivity it gives with the R72 filter. This particular shot was made with these parameters:

I found that having +1 exposure compensation and the camera set to “Mono” to be quite helpful. And MFT encourages the use of open apertures due to its tremendous depth of field (well, here’s where it shines ;)). This shot was made from a tripod, but I did some other shots with similar exposure times (1/6 sec and ISO 6400) handheld – and they came out fine, because Olympus cameras have quite good IBIS (in-body image stabilization).

There’s no excuse for not trying it at least – the Hoya R72 does cost around €50 (depending on size), and it might work with the digital camera you already have. Buy one, and get out to do some IR photography!

滋賀県最高峰の伊吹山から横山岳に連なる伊吹山地。そのふもとの東野町で築80年余の古民家をリノベーションして営んでおられる「ピクニックカフェあかつき」さんへカフェしに行ってきました。

中心市街地は何とも蒸し暑かったけど、この辺りまで来ると少しずつ山の香りが漂い爽やか。一面の田園と点在する集落が、里山のほのぼのとした時間を感じさせてくれます。

「ピクニックカフェあかつき」さんのおすすめは、店主ご実家の精肉卸から取り寄せた良質なお肉と地元野菜で仕上げた「あかつきバーガー」や、身体か透明になりそうな爽やかな香りの「伊吹山麓のオリジナルブランド野草茶」など。

風土の恵みと新しい価値観が和やかにシンクロした身体に優しく美味しい逸品。 店主の伊東大雅さんは、もともとは東京でファッションデザインの仕事をされていましたが、主流になっていくファストフードやファストファッションで希薄になっていく手作りの価値観に疑問を感じ、様々な人と心豊かな時間を共有できるような場所ができればという思いから、ゆるやかな時間が流れる伊吹山地の麓でカフェをオープンされました。

その他にカフェ以外にも、趣味のサークルや教室の場として活躍する「ピクニックカフェ・あかつき」さんからは、多様で新しいコミュニティが生まれています。
