CTS Turbo Release Drop-In Turbo for Audi / VW EA888.3
We are so happy to announce some good news from CTS Turbo for owners of MQB vehicles. The company has released a budget-friendly-direct-bolt-on hybrid turbocharger for the 2015-2020 MQB platform. The kit is available in our shop for $1,499.99. CTS Turbo as a leading brand in the automotive industry is known for manufacturing and wholesaling performance parts for late-model Audi, BMW, and Volkswagen, their latest release fits all MQB-based EA888.3 vehicles such as:
2015-2019 VW Golf/Sportwagen/Alltrack
2015-2020 VW GTI
2015-2019 VW Golf R
2019-2023 VW Jetta GLI
2018-2021 VW Arteon
2015-2020 Audi A3
2015-2020 Audi S3
2015-2020 Audi TT
2015-2020 Audi TTS
ROW models can vary
This turbocharger will change your driving experience like never before by giving your ride massive power gains and superior performance. With this turbocharger, the engineers at CTS Turbo took successful features from their previous releases and made them better. They kept the journal bearing CHRA from the IS38 turbocharger and increased the thrust bearings and thrust collars by 2 mm, to match the larger wheels and the performance-oriented nature of this upgrade.
They also increased the turbo’s oil passages by 0.72mm and put the turbo through extensive in-house tests to make sure that it delivers the highest performance at different altitudes and climates. Their main goals were to manufacture a turbocharger with fast spool times, massive torque gains, and reliable solid mid-range performance, so its safe to say that the CTS Turbo JB-600 Journal Bearing Hybrid Turbocharger MQB Platform 2015-2020 delivers that and more.
Designed for street use, this turbocharger delivers approximately 600 crank hp, around 520-530whp on E85 and 430-460whp on pump 93 octane**. As a performance upgrade, this turbocharger will do wonders for the power and efficiency of your MQB platform. You should also know that this system is engineered to be very durable and withstand the high-performance demands you intend to put it through.
Features
Perfect street turbocharger upgrade, fantastic spool, and mid-range response
Journal bearing direct-fit CHRA (compatible with all factory oil and coolant lines)
Billet reverse rotation compressor wheel, 53.1mm inducer, 71mm-76mm exducer with extended tip (6+6 blade configuration)

Compatible with OE or replacement wastegate actuators
Compatible with OE or aftermarket turbo inlets and turbo outlets, however, we recommend our 2.5″ turbo outlet pipe, see below
Required Parts (Not Included):

Installation hardware for factory turbocharger, listed at the bottom of the page
Recommended Parts (Not Included):
2.5″ turbo outlet pipe

Notes:
Always follow the proper procedure for checking/adjusting the wastegate actuator when installing the turbo! Recommended wastegate actuator voltage: 3.4V-3.6V
We recommend keeping the boost within 25-28psi, less if you’re limited by fueling or a stock engine. Do not exceed the recommended boost range, as it will reduce efficiency.
Installation must be performed by a qualified technician. Always pre-fill the turbocharger, replace engine oil and filter, and follow proper break-in procedures.
Installation hardware or gaskets (use same install kit as the factory turbo), wastegate actuator, and turbo outlet fitting not included.

What a difference 50 years makes juxtaposition of Volkswagen Passat Variant, 1973 & Volkswagen Passat Variant, 2023. The new 9th generation Passat has been revealed for the European market. VW has sold more than 30 million Passats since the introduction of the Italdesign B1 however it has been withdrawn from the US market and the range has shrunk from the original 3 models to the single station wagon Variant. 2022 Volkswagen Golf GTI Review: How the Hot Hatch Icon Stays Relevant After 45 Years
Tumblr media
The Iconic Hot Hatch Returns: Inside the Latest Golf GTI
As an ardent fan who’s owned three GTIs over the last 15 years, few new car launches get me as excited as a new generation of the iconic hot hatch. The Mk8 2022 model ushers the GTI into a high-tech new era while retaining that raw, analogue driving feel intrinsic to its DNA.
A Brief History of an Icon
Ever since the first Mk1 GTI introduced the concept of an attainable, performance-oriented “hot hatch” to the masses in 1976, driving enthusiasts have had a new affordable toy. My first was a handed-down Mk2 from the late 80s, complete with plaid cloth seats cramping four friends during high school cruises along winding backroads (sorry Mom!). But as I upgraded over the next decade from a Mk4 to Mk6, power, tech and refinement increased without losing that playful spirit.
Mk8 Brings Big Upgrades Under a Familiar Shape
You’d be forgiven for not immediately noticing the Mk8 as all-new – the rounded silhouette and C-pillar “kink” are trademark GTI. But under the skin lies the biggest overhaul yet, sitting on VW’s latest MQB platform packing upgraded systems. Options like matrix LED headlights, a digital cockpit and driver assistance systems bring the GTI clearly into the 2020s. Yet a multi-function perforated leather wheel and trademark plaid seats keep that classic identity. More Power with Serious efficiency GTI fans care most about what’s under the hood, and the Mk8’s turbocharged 2.0-liter engine adds 13 hp for a total 241 hp and 273 lb-ft torque - hugely usable grunt. My DSG test car hit 60mph in under 6 seconds thanks to that immediate shove, while delivering 34 mpg highway. And the optional performance exhaust pops and crackles just enough to satisfy when revved, without annoying the neighbors constantly. Balanced, Playful Handling Remains Core Strength Through sweeping curves of my favorite SoCal canyon routes, the GTI stayed planted and lively. The new VAQ limited-slip differential meant I could really lean on the accurate steering and impressive grip levels from wider tires before gentle understeer curbed my momentum. Adaptive dampers on certain trims add greater compliance in comfort mode too. It’s still the trusty Front-wheel drive balance that makes the GTI so satisfying to chuck around bends. Gearbox Options to Suit Any Driver Stick-shift fans can rejoice as VW retained the standard 6-speed manual for ultimate involvement, with auto rev-matching helping smooth shifts. But most will opt for the 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic that suits the GTI’s torque-rich character - snappy, smart shifts to better accelerate but still highly responsive using paddles. I’d welcome the manual’s added driver connection, but won’t mourn losing the DSG’s convenience in traffic.
How Rivals Compare
Having tested the latest Civic Type R and Hyundai i30 N Performance, the Mk8 GTI keeps pace with these FWD heavies while undercutting entry prices. The Honda and Hyundai build on front-drive with their less-sophisticated platforms by adding power or handling sharpness – turning up extremes where the GTI takes a more holistic approach. All three deliver huge grins, but the GTI remains that all-weather, all-condition dynamo.
Why it Matters
As electric swells, SUVs dominate and autonomous looms, few cars engage a driver’s senses like the 2022 GTI. It's an icon that helped define the hot hatch formula of blending real-world practicality with responsive handling, communicative feedback and usable performance. The Mk8 carries that torch, with a maturity that should woo enthusiasts for another generation. Few cars so consistently deliver driving joys with such an infectious spirit as the GTI for the money. The future for small cars with combustion engines does not seem to be very rosy in the VW Group - Euro 7 is probably just too expensive, isn't it? (Motorsport-Total.com/Motor1) - You may still remember: As with all its predecessors, the current generation of the Skoda Fabia (buy a used Skoda Fabia car now) should also have a practical station wagon. The family Fabia was even officially announced in November 2020 by the then CEO and current Volkswagen boss Thomas Schäfer. A good year later, nobody wanted anything more to do with the small station wagon. The project was scrapped. The Czechs also made this decision to prepare for stricter emission regulations. Now, a good year and a half later, it looks as if the normal Fabia hatchback is also in danger. In a conversation with Autocar, current Skoda boss Klaus Zellmer admitted that the necessary updates for the Fabia to be Euro 7-compliant would make the small car too expensive and discourage customers from buying it. Should the regulation come into force as planned, "it will not be possible" to offer the B-segment Mini at an affordable price. If that sound sounds familiar, it's because Volkswagen said exactly the same thing about the mechanically related Polo. In this context, we should also not forget that Audi is following the same path. The A1 will be discontinued after this generation. It looks like VW is tinkering with a not-so-distant future without small cars with internal combustion engines. Seat has not yet announced how the Ibiza will continue, but what happens to Seat is a completely different piece of paper. We wouldn't necessarily expect a rosy future for the brand. The former sub-brand Cupra is developing splendidly and seems to be making Seat more and more unsexy and dispensable. Volkswagen says you would have to increase the price of the Polo by 5,000 euros if you made it Euro 7-ready. That should probably also apply to Fabia and Ibiza, after all, all three are based on the MQB-A0 platform, which the larger Skoda Scala also uses. Interestingly, the European Union says that Euro 7 compatibility would only cost manufacturers 304 euros per car. Someone clearly has their math out of control here. Fabia, Polo and Ibiza will soon also have internal competition from the small electric cars that the various group brands want to launch in 2025. At a starting price of 25,000 euros. The associated studies Skoda Small, VW ID.2all and Cupra UrbanRebel have already been shown to us. After all, the combustion trio no longer has to worry about the Ford Fiesta. The extremely popular small car from Cologne will be canceled this year without replacement.

VolksWagen Golf GTI MK7 Review.
By Emmanuel Omeri.
Tumblr media
Now that we have a 'public holiday', here is my review of the Mk7 VW Golf GTI. I have been lucky enough to use one laying around the yard waiting for a potential buyer. I’ll start with a rather famous statement by Chris Harris. He made this statement while reviewing a Mk7 GTI; ‘Anyone who knows anything about cars quietly respects the Golf GTI’ If my experience is anything to go by, I must agree. I get random nods of approval from people quite often.
I was lucky to lay my hands on a relatively highly specced version. It came with the bigger 8 inch touch screen (Some come with a tiny display). I also got electric leather seats. And most importantly it has DCC (Dynamic Chassis Control)
Tumblr media
Now DCC is a fantastic piece of kit. You can basically transform your car from an aggressive track biased weapon to an extremely comfortable grand tourer. Most GTIs coming in do not have DCC. I was really lucky to get it.And there is quite a stark difference when you drive the car using the different modes. In sport mode, the chassis becomes stiff, suspension hardens, steering heavy, gear shifts aggressive, exhaust note changes (although it’s a fake pumped in noise).
In comfort it feels like you are driving a midsize luxury sedan. It is Mercedes E class levels of comfort. Everything is just soft and supple. I drove on comfort 99% of the time and only put sport when I found a nice twisty back road where I can safely cause some chaos .
Eco is my ‘I am running out of fuel mode’ . I have used it three times when my fuel range was at less than 10kms and I wasn’t sure how far the next petrol station is. In this mode, the car coasts when going down hill or on a very flat surface.
Enough about DCC. VW really did well in balancing performance, practicality and fuel efficiency. It makes it a car you can genuinely use every day. If you don’t go off-road, it is all the car you need. Probably less than 3% of you will be able to keep up with the GTI on the road. This is a car that will get to 100kph in the mid 6 seconds and achieve a top speed of about 250kph and still be comfortable. Subaru STis & Mitsubishi Evos will perform slightly better but a lot of compromises are made when it comes to comfort, fuel efficiency and everyday useability.
Tumblr media
Talking about fuel efficiency. I averaged 9.1 km/l in just over 2,000 KMs of mostly city driving(You can see it’s city driving because my average speed over that distance is 22kph). On the highway, this car will give you 12-15kpl at speeds of 100-140kph.
And it’s good for kids too. It has child seat isofix points and. Boot space big enough for luggage and I think it will also fit a stroller without much of a struggle.
It’s not all rosy though. This car has its drawbacks. And it pains me a bit to say this, but German cars feel like quality cars but they tend to cheap out on things you usually don’t see. For instance, the engine sump is made of plastic. One wrong move and a rock or even a bump may puncture it and you lose all your oil. This can be catastrophic if the driver does not notice. The car also sits quite low. This can easily be remedied though, just fit a sump guard. There are some quality ones from Sump Guard Centre Nairobi.
The car also tends to have coolant consumption issues. This is a widely reported issue globally and most times it is the water pump and the thermostat housing that are faulty. This problem affects most MQB platform cars from Audi and VW. The original manufacturer water pump is very low quality to be honest. You are better off with an aftermarket part. The original can fail even on cars with less than 50,000kms mileage.
The mentioned parts already failed on this specific unit. I replaced the water pump, the thermostat housing, coolant shut off valve and few other bits and pieces. And this is not a cheap car to run at the moment. Expect up to 6 figure repair bills. Or at least high 5 figure bills.I had to import certain things and that is usually expensive. Make friends with someone who knows how to import car parts very fast. You will need him . Also, I always recommend that you have a kitty for your car in case of emergencies.Depending on your car, your kitty should be anywhere between 50k-1million.
However, the gearbox and engine are reported to be quite reliable on the GTI. Some have issues but they aren’t as widespread as the coolant consumption issue. But the most important question, does it make me smile when I drive? Yes! Too much actually.
My recommendation? Just buy your dream cars.
