Dear Author questions in my mind how did reader meet Muken Aizen and develop a relationship?
Continuation of this ask.
Tumblr media
In most cases, I'd leave it up to the reader to decide how they would like to create their meet-cute with Aizen.
For that specific scenario, my idea was centred around a low-ranking shinigami who met him once he was exonerated, but was also a part-time librarian within Sereitei.
One of the few freedoms given to Aizen is visiting this library. He's heavily watched, and while he technically can break free, he humours the Gotei 13. I also think it's not an interest of him to escape either (based on the speech he gave in the ending).
ANYWAYS. He meets you at the library, and because he's Aizen, and you're one of the higher level librarians (yet low-positioned shinigami), you're tasked to monitor him in the library.
At first you're a bit annoyed, and also a bit intimidated because you think it's a daunting task, but one of the books Aizen reads, grabs your attention, and without hesitation, you gush about it! He's taken by surprise, but again, finds it humorous, and listens to you ramble about this book.
And thus, you look forward to his visits to the library and more of the little "book club" you two created for yourselves :)

Spira's Archives
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Maechen: Shall I tell you about the Spira of days long past, eh?
Maechen: There is a legend, you know. Just before the horrible Sin appeared…a terrible war raged between Bevelle and Zanarkand. When the armies of Bevelle attacked Mount Gagazet, they heard a song echoing across the snowy slopes. “‘Tis a song from an otherworld,” they said. The soldiers panicked and ran. And then, as if to pursue the retreating armies, Sin appeared! Some time later, scouts from Bevelle braved the mountain. On the other side, they witnessed the ruins that had been Zanarkand. The city destroyed. Not a single soul left standing. Gone! In its place, a multitude of the fayth had gathered on Gagazet. They were singing a song. It’s the song we now call the “Hymn of the Fayth.” And that, as they say, is that. Well…maybe not all of it.
¬Maechen: Would you like to hear the rest?
Maechen: Rumors flew in Bevelle about Sin’s sudden appearance. They said that the people of Zanarkand became the fayth, that they had called Sin. And that the man responsible…was none other than the summoner Yevon, ruler of Zanarkand! Yes, the lord father of Lady Yunalesca. On the eve of Zanarkand’s destruction, Lady Yunalesca… had fled to safety with her husband, Zaon. Later, the two used the Final Summoning to defeat Sin. Yet the people of Bevelle still feared Yu Yevon. It was to quell his wrath that they revered him, and first spread his teachings. And so were born the temples of Yevon. I suppose it’s possible Yunalesca had planned it that way from the start! A fair trade, she defeats Sin in exchange for her lord father’s honor. Of course, there’s no proof. No, the facts are lost in the mists of time. And who’d admit Yevon was an enemy of Bevelle? You can bet the temples had a hand in covering that one up! And that, as they say, is that.
¬Maechen: Like to hear more, would you?
Maechen: Let me tell you about the Hymn of the Fayth. It was once a Zanarkand song, sung in defiance of Bevelle! Of course, the Yevon clergy of Bevelle forbade it. Then, as these things often go, those who disliked Yevon began to sing it. The Al Bhed, for instance. The Hymn of the Fayth became the symbol of defiance against Yevon. Yevon could do nothing but capitulate. They lifted the ban on the song, and spread a new story. They said the hymn was a song sung to soothe the souls of the dead. And so saying, they took the song and made it scripture. That’s why today, the hymn is sung all over Spira. You could say that, though Zanarkand is gone from this world, it lives on in the song. Aaaah, but look at the time. I’ve rambled on again. I do love stories, you see. Well, I owe you my gratitude for hearing this old scholar out.

the clip didnt save right so i only have the shots. but basically hes saying that the hymn you hear in every temple, being sung by the fayth, wasnt always a symbol in favor of yevon. the al bhed actually started spreading it in defiance (they didnt come up with it obviously since it used to be a song in real zanarkand) and to save face the yevonites made it a yevon thing.
but then that implies that the fayth also started singing it in defiance of yevon. because if they had sung it from the start it wouldve always been a symbol of yevon.

I started a new game of FFX because why look for new games to play when I could play the same three old ones over and over? 😅 and for some reason, this time round I keep thinking about Chappu. Specifically: what was Chappu’s relationship with Yevon? I mean, he joined up to the Crusaders - and Luzzu and Wakka specify that he did actually enlist, he wasn’t just fighting informally alongside them. But unlike the rest of the Crusaders, there’s never any reference to him being excommunicated - and surely if he had been, the story would have told us. (Can you imagine how Wakka would’ve reacted, if his baby brother had been branded a heretic?) So we have Chappu, who as far as we know, was a Yevonite, deciding to enlist with the Crusaders.
Admittedly, the status of the Crusaders in relationship to Yevon has always been a bit of a mystery to me. The vast majority of their members seem to be excommunicated, but according to Maechen, they’re still considered a branch of the Yevon clergy, and they’re commanded by one of the maesters. So presumably there is, in theory, nothing to prevent a good Yevonite from signing up - only, I guess, whatever stigma they might personally feel by rubbing shoulders with a lot of heretics. I guess we can assume Chappu didn’t have any misgivings along those lines. Besaid does seem to be pretty welcoming to outsiders, so maybe that fed into his attitude.
Then there’s also the fact that he didn’t stop to pray at the monument the last time he left the island. According to Wakka, he said he was worried about missing the ferry, but what if that was just an excuse? Was it just that he didn’t share his big brother’s belief in the teachings, and maybe couldn’t quite admit that to him.
It’s tempting to imagine that maybe this all stems from the death of their parents - only while Wakka grew up cleaving to Yevon’s teachings as the only way to defeat Sin, maybe Chappu went the other way, his faith slowly crumbling over the years, his eyes opening to all the cracks in Yevon’s theology, until he decided to take his chance with the ones whom the temple had denounced.
Just: wondering so much about Chappu, all of a sudden.

The authorities had gathered people gifted with this talent, creating an elite corps of Summoners subject to strict regulations. None of them were volunteers; Summoners, or those proficient in the rare craft, were not in the position to refuse their calling. Summoners had been forced to sacrifice themselves for the sake of their government; in exchange for their compliance, they were guaranteed the safety of their closest family, up to twenty-five years after the death of the Summoner. —Final Fantasy X-2.5 ~Eien no Daishō~ (French to English fan translation)
