Amazing White Marble Inlay Handicrafts.
As you know the marble art is famous from the Mughal period which glorifies the beauty of Indian culture, so let us explain the detailed history of white marble inlay handicrafts and explore how to make marble products in different regions of India.
Tumblr media
Italian Marble
Nowadays Pietra Dura is a beautiful marble semi-precious stone that began in the workshops of Florence in Italy around the end of the 16th century, Pietra means (stone) and Dura means (hard) this marble is widely used to make white marble Inlay handicrafts in India. Another reason we use Italian marble is for its durability and purity. Pietra dura appeared on a range of objects from decorative panels to a hand-carved bird to flower motifs to cabinet fronts to coffee table tops and trinket boxes which enhance the pietra dura art.
Tumblr media
Types of Italian Marble
There are three most common types of Italian marble.
1- Carrara
2- Calacatta
3- Statuary
Carrara- It is available in white or blue-grey marble for use in home decor and also used in taj mahal work for its construction. Carrara is located in the Italian province of Massa-Carrara and in the region of Tuscany in north-central Italy, in the foothills of the Apuan Alps. This stunning natural stone is white and gray and features elegant grey veining.
Calacatta- It is a distinctive white Italian marble with gray and gold veining used to make tabletop inlay work. Calacatta marble is mainly used in interior applications where it is very visible. Projects such as entrance or foyer flooring and plates marbles, wall coverings, and kitchen tops are the most common marble inlaid. This Marble is associated with luxury due to its rarity and unique, distinctive appearance.
Statuary- It has a pure white background and elegant grey veins across the stone, This marble is also used to make marble inlay table tops, and  flower vases. This marble is a very bright white in color, and it is relatively rare.
Stone of Afghanistan - Lapis Lazuli
The term Lapis Lazuli originates from Afghanistan which was separated from India in 1893. Lapis Lazuli is widely used for white marble handicrafts and It is a rock formed by multiple minerals, mostly Lazurite, Sodalite, Calcite, and Pyrite, and is a rich medium to royal blue with gold flecks (pyrites). It comes under Metamorphic Rock. Lapis Lazuli comes from many different corners of the world including the mystic corners of Afghanistan, the Ancient Roman shores of Italy, the new worlds of the USA, and the wine-soaked lands of Chile.
These are two regions of India widely famous for marble handicrafts and embroidery work.
Agra
First of all, we talk about the hub of white marble handicrafts which is Agra- the Taj city of India, situated on the riverbank of Yamuna, Uttar Pradesh. It is world-famous for its beautiful handmade products with different craftsmanship. Frame Marble, Inlay work, carpet weaving, Zardozi (embroidery), paintings, calligraphy, textiles, etc are the famous crafts of the city. There are 12 units in the Agra district that come under minor & major medium industries.
Famous handicrafts style in Agra
Mirror Work- This work is an ancient craft that is also known as ‘sheesha’ or ‘abhala Bharat embroidery. Indian artisans quickly excelled at the craft, and over time, motifs evolved to reflect the indigenous cultures of India. Mirror work as we know it today originated from 17th century India.
Zardozi- Zardozi's work is a metal thread embroidery that is a specialty of the city of Agra. It was once used to embellish the ensemble of the kings and royals. The richest embroidery of India is the Zari and the Zardozi, which have been known since the late 16th century. This art form was introduced in India by the Mughal invaders. Moreover, walls of royal tents, wall hangings, scabbards, and paraphernalia of regal horses and elephants were also done in zardozi.
Jaipur
It is the most famous city of Rajasthan which is also known as the “Pink City of India” and the national capital of Rajasthan. Jaipur 2nd is widely famous for marble handicrafts and embroidery, this shows the culture of Indians, Jaipur is a historical city and known for its own beauty.
Famous Handicrafts in Jaipur
Stone Carving- The stone-carving tradition in India is one of the best in the world. The fine stone-carving or fragile jali work in stone is very typical of this area. Jaipur, Thanagazi, Kishori Makrana, and Jodhpur. Special stones found here are sandstone, yellow limestone, colored and white marble. One can enjoy screens with traceries, and luxuriously carved doors ornamented with brass motifs. This is one of the reasons for the glory of Jaipur.
Gems and Metal Jewellery- Jaipur is known for its name in traditional Jewelry for innumerable years. Its royal land has been flourished with precious stones and jewelry. Jaipur is renowned for its exclusive designs and splendid jewelry. In jewelry, it is known for its hand-made jewelry in Kundan and Meenakari. THE INCREDIBLE INLAY ART
Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder… But this common adage isn’t true in the case of inlay art. This indigenous art form is capable of leaving everyone spellbound at the first look. Taj Mahal, one of the Seven Wonders of the World is a perfect example of marble inlay art.
The beautiful art supposedly developed around the 16th century in Italy as Pietra Dura and was brought to India by the Mughal Emperor Akbar. Known as Parchin Kari, it is a technique of inlaying semi-precious stones such as jade, onyx, turquoise, mother of pearl, etc. in marble, wood, ivory, and even metals.
In this article, I will talk about two of the most precious and lavish forms of Inlay art – Marble Inlay and Bone Inlay.
MARBLE INLAY
This is the most ancient form of Inlay art practiced exclusively in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, and some areas of Rajasthan. Most of the works of architecture from the Mughal Era are designed in marble and bear this extravagant art form on their walls and floors. The intricate details of the pattern are filled beautifully with colourful stones. Besides thin slices of marble, the grooves carved on marble are filled with precious or semi-precious stones like onyx, jasper, carnelian, opal, jade, turquoise, etc. The love and attraction among people for the intricate and mesmerizing monuments from medieval times forced the artisans to replicate this beautiful art on various utility and home décor products. The never-ending list of marble inlay work includes flower vases, fruit bowls, marble inlay tiles, pen and candle stands, photo frames, wall hanging plates, trays, tables, jewellery boxes, figurines of animals and divinity, coasters, chess boards, etc.
THE PROCESS INVOLVED
The Marble is first to cut into the desired shape according to the decorative item to be made. Tabletops, coasters, plates, ashtray, flower vases, trinket boxes are some of the popular artifacts made in marble.
A design of either geometrical patterns or floral motifs is drawn on a brass sheet and transferred onto the marble. The carving tools called ‘tankiya’ and ‘narzi’ are used to engrave the pattern by creating grooves on the surface of the marble.
The semi-precious stones are selected on the basis of design i.e. flowers, leaves, animals, birds, etc., and are shaped using a hand-operated machine called Emery wheel.
The colourful stones are then stuck in the grooves on marble using traditional glue and left to dry. After it is dried completely, the inlaid marble surface and the edges are smoothened using fine sandpaper. It is finally polished and a remarkable piece ready for use.
BONE INLAY
Another art form that has transcended medieval times with evidence of embellished furniture from the Mughal and Rajput eras is the magnificent Bone Inlay art.
Bone inlay is the ornamental technique that involves inserting delicate, hand-carved pieces of bone or mother of pearl into the surface of an object. The patterns followed are generally floral and geometric. The sophisticated and timeless art of bone inlay is passed from one generation to the next and is practiced exclusively in the Jodhpur, Udaipur, and Jaipur regions of Rajasthan.
Bone inlay is a spectacular art with beautiful and unique patterns carved on various pieces of furniture and no two pieces designed by the skilled craftsmen are the same. The luxurious furniture crafted under this art lends an exotic appeal to a simple room and can never go unnoticed by anyone. Whether it is a cabinet, chest, table, chair, stool, bed, photo frame, cupboard, or even mirror, this intriguing Indian art in all its form is praised and exported to several places across the world.
THE PROCESS INVOLVED
Firstly, a pattern is carved out from the material. This material can be either mother of pearl or cruelty-free polished bone from camels that have died of natural causes. Then depending on the utility item that needs to be crafted, the base object is chosen. This can be either wood, metal, or ivory. The designs are carved on these to match the prepared design so that the delicate pieces of bone or mother of pearl can be neatly fit onto the surface. After this, the resin in contrasting colours is filled around the bone shapes giving the final touch to a magnificent piece of furniture.
CARING AN INLAY ARTIFACT
Since Inlay art is done using sensitive materials like marble, semi-precious stones, bones, and mother of pearl, dust the objects regularly with a dry soft cloth only for a long-lasting shine. The use of harsh chemicals must be avoided on surfaces. In case of spills or leaks, objects must be immediately cleaned with a mild cleanser using a soft cloth to avoid stains. Heavy and sharp pointed objects should not be brought in contact with these objects. Always handle these delicate artifacts with extreme care to avoid any sort of breakage.

Things to avoid while placing statues of Hindu Gods
While we have been talking a lot about what to do to please the Gods, today, let’s discuss what not to do to bring God’s wrath upon us.  To start with, let’s learn how to keep the statues of Lord Ganesha in the temples.
Tumblr media
World renowned Vastu Shastri Acharya Indu Prakash in his article in the famous newspaper, India TV, detailed on how small mistakes whale placing the statues of Hindu gods can become inauspicious. To start with he shares that a statue of Durga mata or the statues of Lord Ganesha should be never kept with their back visible to their devotees. “Always place an idol in such a way that it is visible from front,” he shares. “Looking at the back of any God’s statue while praying is not considered auspicious,” he further adds.
Tumblr media
Such precautions need to be taken while placing the statues of Ram Darbar as well. Often when placing the Ramdarbar statues in a temple or at home people tend to place the statues of Hanuman facing towards Lord Ram and showing it’s back to the one who is praying. This should be strictly avoided.
Similarly, another common mistake that people tend to commit while placing statues in homes or temples is that they place more than two Ganesh statues in one temple. There are several statues of Lord Ganesha in different poses available everywhere. The devotees of Lord Ganesha think placing all the different poses of Lord Ganesha in their temples will bring them prosperity. However, it turns out to be the opposite. If one wishes to place the different poses of Lord Ganesha in their home, they can place them at different places in the house instead of placing them in only one place.
Tumblr media
Recently it is being observed that people have started using the pictures of Gods depicting them in war. “A picture in which God is in the posture of war or a statue showing God in its rage form should be avoided,” shares Acharya Indu Prakash. It is well advised to use the statues and pictures showing Gods in their gentle, beautiful and blessed form to bring positive energy.
Any statue of Hindu Gods, if fragmented, must always be removed from the temple and  immersed as soon as possible. Similarly, if a picture of the Gods gets torn or disoriented, it should be also removed immediately and immersed immediately.
Keeping the above into consideration one can avoid bringing wrath of the GOds and be blessed with their positivity always.

Selecting Marble for Marble Statue Manufacturing
Choosing a marble slab for making some of the best marble statues of Hindu Gods is not a cakewalk. Selecting the right color, texture and density of the slab is extremely important.
Tumblr media
Marble is a delicate kind of rock that can crack easily if mishandled. Marble is basically made up of carbonate minerals and calcite. Marble statues are world famous for their beauty, strength and resistance to fire and erosion. However, the best marble statue manufacturers always have to be very careful while selecting the slabs.
Tumblr media
At times, it may happen that the marble slab breaks during transportation or shipping. While in some cases, the slab can get eroded due to pollution and other not so favorable conditions. These kinds of slabs are poorly made marble slabs as it isn’t very common for a marble slab to crack easily.
Another challenge for the marble statue manufacturers is to choose a marble slab that has almost no impurities in the white colour i.e. to create pure whaite marble statues. If a slab has an impurity, it may cause a hindrance in the beauty of the statue thus made. However, even if the manufacturer finds a slab with some impurities, it’s up to them as to how to incorporate the defect in such a way that it adds to the beauty of the marble statue and may not look odd to the viewers.
While there are several marble statue manufacturers around the world, some of the best ones can only be found in the Pink City of Rajasthan, Jaipur, where the supply of marble stone is in abundance thanks to the nearby marble mines. These marble statue manufacturers have the tendency to manufacture some of the world’s most awe inspiring white marble statues of Hindu Gods and Goddesses. The beauty of these statues not only keeps the viewers awe struck, but also helps in adding to their devotion to their deity.
To find such mesmerising marble statues of Hindu Gods and Goddesses you may visit Agrwal Moorti Bhandar, one of the leaders among marble moorti manufacturers in Jaipur. You can also order beautiful marble moorti of any Gods and Goddesses online through their website www.agrawalmoortibhandar.in Place your order right away!

The Hindu God Ganesh Represents Wisdom and Success
A couple of years ago I finally met someone I had known for many years, but only on the Internet. I noticed that she always wore the same pendant, a strange figure of a man with an elephants head and wondered why such an elegant lady would be so attached to what looked like a funny plastic figure. When I finally got round to asking her about it, I was ashamed of my ignorance. It was the first time I had heard of the Hindu God Ganesh.
Tumblr media
To a western eye, Ganesh looks really strange; an almost comical figure who has a man's body (and a bit of a paunch) an elephants head, four hands (at least), only one tusk, and spends his time riding around on a very small mouse. But Ganesh is not a clown and to see him as a joke is to misunderstand centuries of belief and symbolism. He is highly revered in the Hindu religion, where the same attributes, looked at in a different way, make him the embodiment of wisdom and learning, the patron of science and the arts, the remover of obstacles, and hence called on at the beginning of every enterprise as the god of success. It was as such that my friend wore her pendant, not plastic but very old jade, a talisman designed to bring success to each one of her ventures.
The Hindu religion is very old and practiced over a wide area, so it isn't surprising that there are many stories about the origin of the Hindu gods. In most Hindu traditions, Ganesh is the son of Shiva and his wife Parvati. Hindu's recognize four major denominations all of whom regard Parvati and Shiva as important, but for the Shakta, Parvati, whose name means 'she of the mountains' is the Supreme Being and Shiva is her consort. It was Parvati who created Ganesh.
Parvati is said to value her privacy, so one day when she wanted to bathe and had no-one around to keep watch for her, Parvati used turmeric paste to create a boy. She gave him life and asked him to be sure to guard her privacy, and this is how Ganesh was born, without any real intervention from his 'father' Shiva.
When Shiva returned home he wanted to go inside, but Ganesh followed his Mother's instructions and stopped him. There was a battle, and Shiva, who is Lord of Destruction, cut off the boy's head.
When she saw what had happened, Parvati's anger knew no bounds. She demanded that Shiva amend the situation, so he sent his servants to bring back the head of the first living thing they found. The head belonged to an elderly elephant they had found just as he was about to die, so Ganesh was brought back to life and given the elephant's head.
By association Ganesh is regarded as strong, affectionate and loyal. Such a large head can only be a sign of wisdom and intelligence, while the huge ears are used to carefully separate the good and the bad and to listen to the requests of supplicants. Like the elephant Ganesh is powerful if provoked, but loving when shown kindness. Unlike most elephants, Ganesh has only one tusk.
There are many stories of the reason for the broken tusk; the most popular is that Ganesh was given the job of writing down the epic tale known as the Mahabharata. At one point his pen failed and rather than stop, Ganesh removed his tusk and carried on, showing he was willing to make a sacrifice to acquire knowledge. Other, less poetic stories say that the tusk was removed by a villain who stole it to make ivory earrings for beautiful ladies.
It's not always immediately obvious that statues of Ganesh have four (and sometimes more) hands. One is usually shown in abhaya pose that is held up with palm out and fingers pointing upwards, while the second holds a sweet, a symbol of the inner self. The other two hands will usually contain a goad and a noose, the former being used to prod followers along the path of truth, while the latter represents the snare of earthly desires. At his feet most statues of Ganesh show a mouse, his traditional steed. The mouse is the symbol of the intellect, wandering in and out, but tamed by the greater power of the whole.
Many devotees believe that the strange shape of the one tusked elephant headed God mirrors the symbol OM, a symbol which represents the primeval sound which was the first thing to be created and from which the rest of the universe arose. This is the symbol which is commonly used to represent all of Hinduism and its beliefs.
Although the Hindu religion has four main denominations, all worship Ganesh, whose image can be found across India, Nepal and many areas of the Far East. For Buddhists, Ganesh appears as the god Vinayaka and is usually shown dancing. His statues appear in Nepal and Tibet. In Japan he is seen as a minor god and young people call on him when looking for success in love. Throughout Malaysia, Java, Bali and Borneo there are temples to Ganesh and in Thailand his position as remover of obstacles and patron of the arts mean that there is a ceremony where offerings are made to Ganesh before any movie or TV series starts shooting.
Indonesia is a Muslim country, but even there Ganesh is revered and his image can be found in many Cambodian temples. Yet despite spreading across the Eastern world Ganesh was unknown in Europe until relatively recently, though some scholars, commenting on a statue of Ganesh where he is shown with two heads (one of an elephant one of a man) facing in opposite directions have likened the image to that of Janus, the two headed God of the Romans, but no actual link between the two has been found.
Whatever your view on the gods of the east or of the ancients, their statues and associated symbolism are always thought provoking. However we view something, other cultures often see (or saw) it very differently; one reason why museum quality statues and other artifacts make fascinating and artistic conversation pieces for any home.
There is too much written about Lord Ganesha in Hindu mythology. Anybody who has worshipped Ganesh with true dedication and feeling has never ever failed to get the prosperity and riches that he is entitled to. You too can solve your financial problems forever by bringing Lord Ganesha to your home.

Add Beauty To Your Home With Marble Sculptures And Statues
Marble is traditionally seen as a cold and difficult stone--but in the hands of the great sculptors of the past, you'd never know it. Looking at their works, one sees motion and beauty, as well as the silent calm of still repose. Marble sculptures from ancient Greece and Rome remain our greatest inheritance from those countries, and therefore the legacy of marble sculpture continues to captivate both artists and audiences up to this day.
Tumblr media
It is never difficult to ascertain why: in any case , with marble's fine sheen and delightful polish, it makes an excellent substance for contemplation. Marble Sculpture History and Method
Marble is a metamorphic rock derived from limestone, which is mostly composed of calcite. Marble is made when the limestone is transformed by heat and pressure after being overlain by other materials. Sculpting with marble is an ancient and cherished art. Humans have been fashioning shapes from stone since our very humble and first beginnings - even before scribbling on cave walls! Sculpting monuments with marble began as early because the first century BC, or maybe earlier consistent with current findings.
Tumblr media
Marble sculptures are extremely durable, and even over centuries they still retain their exquisite beauty and durability - some examples being: Ganesha, Shiv, Gauri-shankar, Krishna, Radhe-Krishna, Natraj,Buddha, and many more from the religion of India. These have kept their magnificence for hundreds of years. All over the world today marble sculptures bring intriguing beauty to home owners, business owners, gardens, galleries, schools, religious institutions, and all manner of other venues; to refine, decorate, and honor particular people of special influence.
Today artists or handicrafts from Agrawal Moorti Bhandar (company based in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India) have developed extremely modern methods of stone casting, due to the much-needed concept of 'mass production' in the business of art today. There are also several different types of marble combinations that can be used. In this statue casting process, marble is mixed together with resins and binding agents and then poured into a mold that was created from the original clay model.
The genius of this new and innovative marble casting process is that these marble statue replicas are still extremely strong and weather resistant, and that they won't yellow over time - they don't crack or have bubbles, and they can be washed with most cleaning agents. So, thanks to these amazingly modern processes, all of us can enjoy the elegant beauty of marble statues in our homes and other venues at much more affordable prices. And the painstaking 'chip away' process that used to take a year or two - (or more), to complete one large marble statue, now can be finished at an incredibly faster rate.
