Spider-Man: No Way Home
Spider-Man: No Way Home is a 2021 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man, co-produced by Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios and distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing. It is the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) and Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) and is the 27th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film was directed by Jon Watts and written by Chris McKenna and Eric Somers. It stars Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jacob Batalon, Jon Favreau, Jamie Foxx, Willem Dafoe, Alfred Molina, Benedict Wong, Tony Revolori, Marisa Tomei, Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire, as well as Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man. In the film, Parker asks Dr. Stephen Strange (Cumberbatch) to use magic to disguise his identity as Spider-Man after the reveal at the end of Far From Home. When the spell is broken due to Parker's actions, the multiverse opens up, allowing visitors from alternate realities to enter Parker's universe.
A third MCU Spider-Man film was planned during the production of Homecoming in 2017. Talks between Sony and Marvel Studios to modify their deal—which saw them co-produce a Spider-Man film—ended with Marvel Studios leaving the project in August 2019, but a negative fan reaction prompted a new move within the company a month later. led to the agreement. Watts, McKenna, Somers and Holland were set to return and filming took place from October 2020 to March 2021 in New York City and Atlanta. No Way Home serves as a crossover between the MCU and the Spider-Man films directed by Sam Raimi and Marc Webb, with many actors reprising their roles from those films, including previous Spider-Man actors Maguire and Garfield. The involvement of both actors was the subject of widespread speculation and numerous leaks despite efforts by Sony, Marvel and the cast to conceal their involvement.

The Mosley Review: Spider-Man: No Way Home
Tumblr media
First and foremost, I DO NOT SPOIL anything in my reviews! If I do, it is the most mild of spoilers. They're so mild, even the flaks of pepper in the sauce have no kick. That being said, I will only talk about things that have been confirmed in the trailers. If that is still a spoiler for you, then you have been warned. I have really enjoyed almost all the live Spider-Man films that have come along ever since 2001. There are a few that have not been a success, but for the most part they have been great. With this iteration of the titular character, we have gotten a rare opportunity to grow with him in a new and unpredictable way that has been absolutely spectacular. From his introduction in Captain America: Civil War to now has been an excellent exercise in starting small and making the character development come first and the action second. This film features the most action I've ever seen in this characters' live action history and it all felt natural and wasn't too busy. Aside from all of that, the story itself moves at a very brisk pace and I liked that. Its truly the end of the second act and the beginning of the third act where the story truly takes center stage and reveals the heart of the film. I really can't say too much, but I will say that out of the 3 MCU films, this one is was the best.
Tumblr media
Tom Holland truly delivers a great performance as Spider-Man, but he did his best work as Peter Parker in this film. He is given a chance for Peter to grow up and he does in the best way and I loved every second of it. He learns many great life lessons and the one that is the most important in a powerful scene. The balance of being Peter and Spider-Man is a tight rope that many have walked and they have fallen on either one of the two sides, but Tom has become the first to perfectly flesh out both aspects of the character into a complete and quintessential version of the character. Zendaya returns as his girlfriend MJ and she gets some great moments to shine amongst the chaos. Jacob Batalon also returns as Ned and he was hilarious in a number of moments. Together they all continue to have that great chemistry that introduced in Homecoming and it is the best in this film. Benedict Cumberbatch was excellent yet again as Dr. Stephen Strange and I liked the fact that he was fascinated and also annoyed most of the film once Peter's plan fell apart in the spell casting. He's on clean up duty and their battle was visually stunning and exciting. J.K. Simmons continues to be the perfect adaption of J. Jonah Jameson that ever existed. Jon Favreau returns as Happy Hogan and he was just as jolly as you'd expect him to be, even though he's only in a handful of scenes. Maris Tomei dazzles once again as Aunt May and I loved that she got the most to do in this film. She delivers on her comedic timing in a particular scene and powerful scene that features all the life lessons for Peter in another.
Tumblr media
Alfred Molina returns as the Dr. Otto Octavius from Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2 and he was absolutely fantastic. He didn't skip a beat in delivering the characters downright hatred for Spider-Man and I loved that they kept him consistent with the voices he hears from his mechanical arms. Thomas Haden Church also returns as Flint Marko/ Sandman from Raimi's third film and he was fun to see. Jamie Foxx returns as Max Dillion / Electro from Marc Webb's Amazing Spider-Man 2 and I liked him, but he was very one note. Even though the characters intentions are made clear early on, you don't believe him for a second. Willem Dafoe reprises his iconic role as Norman Osborn / Green Goblin and he stole the film. He was more charismatic, brutal, creepy and unpredictable. He was the ticking time bomb that you never knew when it was about to go off and when he does, he shows why he will always be Spider-Man's number 1 arch nemesis.
Tumblr media
The score by franchise composer Michael Giacchino was out of this world. He perfectly mixes the styles of Spider-Man and Doctor Strange in their chase sequence so well and how even musically they're battling for dominance. Giacchino brings back pieces of score from the Raimi and Webb films in a elegant way and it was awesome to hear. There are even gothic horror elements that he accents the Goblin scenes with and it made those scenes even more tense. There are also others that make an epic return and a cameo that re-legitimizes a section of Marvel that in my eyes never stopped being apart of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I know in my review of Far From Home I stated that it was the best Spider-Man film, well I’m correcting myself now. This is by far the best live action Spider-Man film and the most complete ending to a trilogy this comic book hero deserved. It has the heart, darkness, character growth and visually layered storytelling I've ever seen in a Spider-Man film. Don't let this film be spoiled by others. This is a MUST SEE and a love letter to all the Spidey fans out there. Do stick around for both end credit scenes because they're both spectacular. Let me know what you thought of the film or my review in the comments below. Thanks for reading!

SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME (2021)
Starring Tom Holland, Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jacob Batalon, Jon Favreau, Jamie Foxx, Willem Dafoe, Alfred Molina, Benedict Wong, Tony Revolori, Marisa Tomei, Andrew Garfield, Tobey Maguire, Thomas Haden Church, Rhys Ifans, Charlie Cox, Angourie Rice, Arian Moayed, Paula Newsome, Hannibal Buress, Martin Starr, JB Smoove and JK Simmons.
Screenplay by Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers.
Directed by Jon Watts.
Distributed by Columbia Pictures. 148 minutes. Rated PG-13.
We’ve all been waiting, and yes, it was worth the wait. Spider-Man: No Way Home has been the subject of a massive amount of chatter online, as little nuggets of information were slipped out to the fans.
Is that really Alfred Molina revisiting his Spider-Man 2 role of Doc Octopus? Is Willem Defoe really coming back as The Green Goblin from the original 2003 Spider-Man movie? And Jamie Foxx is coming back too as Electro from The Amazing Spider-Man 2? Plus, are they giving the character the traditional Electro outfit, not making him look like Dr. Manhattan from Watchmen like in the earlier film?
I feel safe mentioning that eventually five former Spidey supervillains show up from the earlier Sam Raimi and Marc Webb Spider-Man series, since that has been shown in the trailers and other stories. (The other two are Thomas Haden Church’s Sandman from Spider-Man 3 and Rhys Ifans’ Lizard, also from The Amazing Spider-Man 2.) Well, technically a sixth one kind of shows up, but no more about that.
Still, the best way to go into Spider-Man: No Way Home is knowing as little as possible. In fact, before the preview screening I saw, there was a short clip where the stars begged us not to give up any spoilers.
It is nearly impossible to explain how much fun the latest Spider-Man film No Way Home is without giving up spoilers. And while I will do my best to keep a lid on the surprises, any article which discusses this film without mentioning any of those things will be very short indeed. So fair warning, if you want to wait until after you see Spider-Man: No Way Home before reading the story, I will not be offended. The article will be here after you are ready.
The new Spider-Man film centers on the concept of the multiverse, a concept which has become exceedingly popular in comic-book films and TV series – both Marvel and DC have used it extensively, and even Spidey has previously used it in the stand-alone animated film Spider-Man: Into the Multiverse.
As explained in LiveScience.com: “Multiverse theory suggests that our universe, with all its hundreds of billions of galaxies and almost countless stars, spanning tens of billions of light-years, may not be the only one. Instead, there may be an entirely different universe, distantly separated from ours — and another, and another.” Therefore, there are multiple variations of people in different universes, all living different lives and lifestyles and effected by different world events.
I’ve never been a huge fan of the whole multiverse thing – it seems too convenient and makes anything, no matter how unlikely, possible. However, Spider-Man: No Way Home uses the theory elegantly, tying together the three recent Spider-Man film series into an eye-popping, emotionally draining whole.
It does this in one more basic way. [SPOILER ALERT!] I feel I can say this because it has been floating around for a while, but if you want to be completely surprised, skip this paragraph. In the new film, current Spidey Tom Holland meets up with the two previous film Peter Parkers: Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire. All of them have different styles, different personalities and different takes on the character (just like the films that spawned them), and together they fight off the series of bad guys let loose from the multiverse.
[Okay, spoiler people can come back now.]
Okay, that’s all the secrets I’ll be letting out. However, what I can say without ruining anything is that Spider-Man: No Way Home is the perfect modern blockbuster and the best MCU film in quite some time, maybe even since the first Avengers movie – and I’m saying that as a fan of many of the films that have come in between.
As always, it is also self-referential. One nice, slightly unimportant Easter Egg for fans is the first crossover between the MCU and the Netflix Marvel series happens here, with a brief cameo by Daredevil star Charlie Cox as his alter-ego, Matt Murdoch, who is hired as a lawyer to defend Peter Parker.
Spider-Man: No Way Home is fun, exciting, and often surprisingly moving. Let’s face it, it’s a triumph all around. This is how these films should be done.

Marc Webb, meanwhile, is still attached to Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo has been tapped for The Sword in the Stone, Carlos López Estrada is tackling Robin Hood, and the list goes on and on. With that in mind, it shouldn’t be a surprise to hear that our sources – the same ones who told us Jon Favreau’s Lion King was getting a sequel long before it was confirmed – have informed us that The Emperor’s New Groove is next in line.

8 Disney Live-Action Movies Coming Up Next After Cruella
Cruella was indeed a long-awaited live-action movie that finally arrived on 22 May 2021. It was a prequel to the 101 Dalmatians story and was a hit on both Disney+ premier and theatres. However, Cruella is just the beginning, as Disney has an entire list of similar movies in the production process. To be precise, the number reaches up to 14. Disney has decided to work on the revoked storyline with a new perspective for existing characters. It is to be done according to the analysis on the preferred choice of audiences. Disney has been working on its vast range of catalogs to bring classic characters with mixed results. While Disney is known for its animated film productions, it gave us some of the best live-action adaptations of various movies. For instance, The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast.
Presenting a deeper look at the controversial characters from the bigger franchises has become a trend. For instance, movies like Joker and Maleficent are the supporting characters from the bigger franchise. But Disney provided us with a different perspective of those characters in the movie. The live-action trend began with Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book (1994) and Cruella de Vil in 101 Dalmatians (1996) and 102 Dalmatians (2000). Here are some of the Disney live-action movies coming up next after Cruella based on existing stories such as:
1. The Little Mermaid
Tumblr media
The next live-action movie, a remake of ‘The Little Mermaid,’ is expected to come, as Disney announced its casting. The casting is followed by Halle Bailey as ‘Ariel,’ the title character, and Melissa McCarthy as ‘Ursula’, the villain character. And Awkwafina will play Scuttle, Daveed Diggs as Sebastian, and Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric. Most of the previous live-action adaptations of animated musicals have included lesser classic Disney song catalog. However, the adaptations of ‘The Little Mermaid’ will be arriving with the original soundtrack. Alan Menken (worked on original music) and Lin-Manuel Miranda are working on new songs as well. The film production was in process but was delayed due to the pandemic. So, the released date is yet to be announced.
2. Luca
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pixar is offering an animated coming-of-age story movie that includes the adventures of two boys. The initial release date is fixed for June 18, 2021. It is a story about two boys, ‘Luca’ and his friend Alberto, as they are set to enjoy sun-soaked summer at the Italian seaside. Jacob Tremblay will be playing the role of Luca Paguro, Jack Dylan Grazer will play Alberto Scorfano, and Emma Berman as Giulia. The story follows the life of two magical sea creatures posing as boys and exploring scooter rides, pasta, gelato, and the countryside.
3. Peter Pan & Wendy
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here comes another live-action adaptation of J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan. The film is currently in production and is directed by David Lowery. It has adopted the name directly from J.M. Barrie’s novel ‘Peter and Wendy’. However, it is suggested that the focus might have shifted from Peter to Wendy. Ever Anderson will play the new adaptation roles as Black Widow and Peter as Alexander Molony.
4. Jungle Book Sequel
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Disney has announced about working on the sequel of 2016’s The Jungle Book. According to the reports, the writer and director of the first installment, Justin Marks and Jon Favreau, are constantly working together. However, there has been no confirmation about the upcoming movie’s cast.
5. The Lion King Prequel
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Disney announced the prequel of ‘The Lion King’ at the Disney Investor’s Day in 2020. Jon Favreau directed the first installment, and Moonlight director ‘Barry Jenkins will most likely direct the sequel.’ Well, for further information on the prequel about cast or story, we have to wait.
6. Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs
Tumblr media Tumblr media
‘Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs’ also have had its fair share of adaptations, including Snow White and the Huntsman. And other sequels following the movie with a completely different story. The announcement said that Marc Webb would direct, Eric Cresidda Wilson will work on the script, and Justin Paul & Benj Pasek will work on new songs. As usual, the production was delayed by pandemic, and the release date is not announced yet.
7. Aladdin Sequel
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Disney’s live-action Aladdin (2019) was a total hit, which brings the sequel in line. And it is expected that people will love the sequel as well, or at least it will be considered. The second installment is already in production with casting members Will Smith, Mena Massoud, and Naomi Scott as their previous roles. Disney’s original Aladdin (1992) was given two sequels, but the new sequel is believed to be a new story.
8. Hunchback
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Hunchback of the Notre Dame (1996) is not much famous but will be getting a live-action adaptation. It was announced in 2019 and will be produced by Josh Gad. It will be developed as a musical adaptation by drawing some of the elements from Victor Hugo. The confirmation about the project was given by Gad recently in January 2021.

2019: Top Ten Star Wars Media
Tumblr media
It’s hard to deny that 2019 was the biggest year for Star Wars in recent memory. With not only the conclusion to the Skywalker Saga released in The Rise of Skywalker, and the first ever live action Star Wars series, The Mandalorian, but all other manner of books, comics, games, and shows, it was a busy year to be a fan of the Galaxy Far, Far Away. While this year’s big feature film may have been largely disappointing, there were still some great additions to the Star Wars legacy.
10. Star Wars: The Rise of Kylo Ren
Tumblr media
Only one issue in and writer Charles Soule’s exploration of the start of the Kylo Ren tragedy is already shaping up to be another stellar addition to his already exceptional comics bibliography. While the Knights of Ren may have been little more than set dressing with cool designs in the films, Soule explores this deadly group of warriors as something of a self-destructive, nihilistic cult and gives them their own strange traditions and personality. Artist Will Sliney turns in career best work here with not only providing some great character design but also letting Ben Solo’s complicated facial expressions tell heartbreaking stories of their own. It’s complex and tragic reading that adds to the fascinating history of one of the most intriguing characters of the decade.
9. Star Wars Resistance
Tumblr media
It is undeniably uneven and at times aimless, but Star Wars’ third canon animated series is still filled with moments of joy, spectacle, and undeniably fun plot swerves. The playful sense of humor and stellar racing/aerial combat sequences remain a standout and the show is likely a colorful delight for younger viewers. However, what made Resistance such a standout in 2019 is the refreshingly complex character arc given to one of its central cast members, Tam Ryvora. Showrunner Justin Ridge and voice actress Suzie McGrath show how anger and fear can lead even good people into the sway of fascism and Tam’s complicated betrayal and murky moral future makes for some of the most mature storytelling that Star Wars animation has attempted.
8. Star Wars Adventures

As always, IDW’s delightful Star Wars Adventures remains some of the most artistically dynamic and eclectic comics the franchises currently publishes. While always shooting for stories that can be enjoyed by Star Wars fans young and old, Adventures uses its anthology format to tell stories from across the entirety of the franchise canon featuring all manner of characters and letting different creative voices take a spin with the many toys offered. Whether it’s the creepy Halloween limited series Return to Vader’s Castle or seeing Chewbacca and a trusty Porg liberate the Wookiee homeworld of Kashyyyk, Adventures continues to offer a little something for all fans.
7. Star Wars Age of Rebellion
Tumblr media
While there were gems inside all three of Marvel’s yearlong Age Of… limited series, its highlight of the most classic of Star Wars eras was undoubtedly its strongest. Greg Pak and his team of collaborating visual artists delivered some outstanding one off stories for Luke, Leia, Tarkin, and others, but it was ultimately their stellar Boba Fett story that proved the highlight of the twenty seven issue run. A mostly wordless Western that opens up with the galaxy’s most infamous bounty hunter riding into town on a robotic horse, Pak and Marc Laming’s thrilling and understated character study was the best Star Wars comic of the year and arguably the best Boba Fett story of the decade.
6. Star Wars: Resistance Reborn
Tumblr media
Rebecca Roanhorse’s official prequel to The Rise of Skywalker proves to be a more satisfying experience than the movie that it ties into. Fans of Star Wars media are sure to find much to enjoy in this tale that not only bridges the eighth and ninth episodes of the saga but also provides a conclusion to all manner of media for the last decade. In an incredible balancing act, Roanhorse manages to tell a story of galactic rebellion and resolve while roping in characters from Star Wars Battlefront II, Chuck Wendig’s Aftermath trilogy, Claudia Gray’s Bloodline, Charles Soule’s Poe Dameron comic, and more. The result is a satisfying and thrilling read that rewards longterm readership while remaining a fun and consequential story in its own right.
5. Star Wars: Master and Apprentice
Tumblr media
2019 was the twentieth anniversary of The Phantom Menace (holy crap) and while the film still remains a largely derided part of Star Wars history, Claudia Gray’s Qui-Gon Jinn centric prequel will happily enjoy a more positive legacy. Exploring the complicated teacher/student dynamic between Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan Kenobi, Master and Apprentice is an intriguing piece of courtly drama and conspiracy. Gray finds great dramatic fodder in the larger Jedi “family” formed by Qui-Gon and his own masters and former students and it makes for a fun character study amid some enjoyable dialogue centered prose. Gray is recognized by many as the strongest writer currently writing for Star Wars and Master and Apprentice is another fine addition to her repertoire.
4. Star Wars The Mandalorian
Tumblr media
Of all other Star Wars media, The Mandalorian was the one to take the world by storm in 2019. Even outside the fire in a pan cuteness success of Baby Yoda, showrunner Jon Favreau’s space western drama was a runaway success. Despite a midseason drag in pacing and quality, the first ever live action Star Wars series thrilled and won over fans the world over with its enjoyable ensemble, great production design, and some stellar direction. Deborah Chow became the first woman to direct a live action Star Wars project and in the process delivered two fantastic hours of television. Her spearheading of an upcoming Obi-Wan show could not be more exciting. However, it was Taika Waititi’s outstanding season finale that is sure to stick in fan’s minds as a yearly highlight. Season two could not come faster.
3. Star Wars: Alphabet Squadron
Tumblr media
Even with the Sequel Trilogy closing its doors last month, the next great Star Wars trilogy may have already begun in June. Alexander Freed draws inspiration from the cult favorite X-Wing novels of the 90’s to create a fantastically engaging military procedural set during the fall of the Empire and the rise of a new Republic. Without a doubt the most nuanced take of a galaxy in the final throes of wartime, Alphabet Squadron is an ensemble drama about a cast of characters finding their place in a new galaxy while coming to terms with their own trauma. Freed’s detailed and dutiful prose makes for a surprisingly engrossing read and some of the most powerful character writing to come out of a Star Wars novel in recent years. Thankfully the second installment arrives in less than six months!
2. Star Wars: Queen’s Shadow
Tumblr media
There are few characters in the Star Wars galaxy that were in more need of a storytelling makeover than Padme Amidala. While she began as a great female heroine in The Phantom Menace, Padme spent the latter two films of the prequel trilogy bogged down with a leaden romantic story and a borderline misogynistic death. Writer EK Johnston’s Queen’s Shadow is an unabashed love letter to the girl queen that won over a generation of female fans in 1999 and a surprisingly relevant character study of a young woman entering the political scene in a time of galactic change and upheaval. Johnston turns Padme into a complex and politically astute young leader that is forced to navigate her transition from planetary matriarch to senator while also facing a wave of galactic scandal and judgement. It’s hard not to feel that Queen’s Shadow is in conversation with our own country’s treatment of women leaders and acts just as much as a rallying cry for young readers as it does a fun character piece. Also, who would have expected Sabe, Padme’s chief handmaiden played by Kiera Knightley in the film, to be one of the most emotionally complex protagonists of the year?
1. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
Tumblr media
It’s been well over a decade since players have been treated to a great Star Wars gaming experience. The last true single player Star Wars game was the woefully lackluster Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II and fans have been clamoring for years for another chance to dive deep into an interactive story set in this rich fictional galaxy. Luckily, Respawn Entertainment have delivered just that in the fantastic Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Blending the exploration of Metroid Prime, the combat of Dark Souls, and the platforming set pieces of Uncharted with a fresh new Star Wars story, Fallen Order may not reinvent the wheel but what it does is present an entertaining and engrossing experience. Character progression and combat feel tailored to Jedi philosophy and exploring new, entirely optional, environments riddled with fascinating lore makes stepping into the interactive world Respawn has crafted rewarding and fun. However, it is the game’s story of the last remaining members of traditions that have been victims of cultural genocide that makes Fallen Order a success. Relatable and complex lead characters and even surprisingly sympathetic villains make this story a refreshingly emotional one and its high and lows are felt with a welcome dedication to theme and pathos.
