Luke 19:45 Then Jesus entered the Temple and began to drive out the people selling animals for sacrifices. Luke 19:46 He said to them, “The Scriptures declare, ‘My Temple will be a house of prayer,’ but you have turned it into a den of thieves.” Luke 19:47 After that, he taught daily in the Temple, but the leading priests, the teachers of religious law, and the other leaders of the people began planning how to kill him. Luke 19:48 Yet they could not find any way to do it, because all the people hung on his words.
Luke 9:46 An argument started among the disciples as to which of them would be the greatest. Luke 9:47 Jesus, knowing their thoughts, took a little child and had him stand beside him. Luke 9:48 Then he said to them, “Anyone who welcomes a little child like this on my behalf welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me also welcomes my Father who sent me. Whoever is the least among you is the greatest.”

Deranged and Destitute Dishonest Dementia Dummy donnie j. dump and Christianity in the United States of America Since 2017: Some interesting observations about the church attendance data chart:
Never attending church: Something drove people away from Christian churches from 2016 to 2020. It started 3 years prior to the COVID pandemic.
Weekly church attendance: Something drove people away from Christian churches from the beginning of 2016 to the end of 2017.
Monthly church attendance: Something drove people away from Christian churches from the beginning of 2017 to present.
What changed in 2016? Many evangelicals claim that their long-awaited Christian and Hebrew Messiah and His Army of Christian Angels finally arrived and were fighting godlessness in the United States on behalf of their God. If that's the truth, then why didn't the actual long-awaited Christian and Hebrew Messiah and His Army of Christian Angels pack Christians into churches instead of driving them away in droves? Did their long-awaited Christian and Hebrew Messiah and His Army of Christian Angels make America great by destroying Christianity at levels never before seen in America? What about American national health, jobs numbers, national debt, national security, family values, and Christian values between 2016 to 2021? How can a so-called "long-awaited Christian and Hebrew Messiah and His Army of Christian Angels" have an antichrist/satanic effect on Christianity if they're not antichrist servants and satanists?

In 399 BC, Socrates was formally accused of corrupting the minds of the youth of Athens, and for asebeia (impiety), i.e. worshipping false gods and failing to worship the gods of Athens. At the trial, Socrates defended himself unsuccessfully. He was found guilty by a majority vote cast by a jury of hundreds of male Athenian citizens and, according to the custom, proposed his own penalty: that he should be given free food and housing by the state, for the services he rendered to the city. In the alternative, he proposed that he be fined one mina of silver (according to him, all he had). The jurors declined his offer and ordered the death penalty.
Plato's Apology starts with Socrates answering the various rumours against him that have given rise to the indictment. First, Socrates defends himself against the rumour that he is an atheist naturalist philosopher, as portrayed in Aristophanes's The Clouds; or a sophist. Against the allegations of corrupting the youth, Socrates answers that he has never corrupted anyone intentionally, since corrupting someone would carry the risk of being corrupted back in return, and that would be illogical, since corruption is undesirable. On the second charge, Socrates asks for clarification. Meletus responds by repeating the accusation that Socrates is an atheist. Socrates notes the contradiction between atheism and worshipping false gods. He then claims that he is "God's gift" to the Athenians, since his activities ultimately benefit Athens; thus, in condemning him to death, Athens itself will be the greatest loser. After that, he says that even though no human can reach wisdom, seeking it is the best thing someone can do, implying money and prestige are not as precious as commonly thought.
Socrates was given the chance to offer alternative punishments for himself after being found guilty. He could have requested permission to flee Athens and live in exile, but he did not do so. According to Xenophon, Socrates made no proposals, while according to Plato he suggested free meals should be provided for him daily in recognition of his worth to Athens or, more in earnest, that a fine should be imposed on him. The jurors favoured the death penalty by making him drink a cup of hemlock (a poisonous liquid). In return, Socrates warned jurors and Athenians that criticism of them by his many disciples was inescapable, unless they became good men. After a delay caused by Athenian religious ceremonies, Socrates spent his last day in prison. His friends visited him and offered him an opportunity to escape, which he declined. (Wikipedia)

Constitutional Specificity:
trump v. Anderson, No. 23-719, 601 U.S. _ (2024), is a U.S. Supreme Court case in which the Court unanimously held that states could not determine eligibility for federal office, including the presidency, under Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment. In December 2023, the Colorado Supreme Court rejected former president Donald Trump's presidential eligibility on the basis of his actions during the January 6 Capitol attack, adhering to the Fourteenth Amendment disqualification theory. The case was known as Anderson v. Griswold in the Colorado state courts.
The Colorado Supreme Court held that Trump's actions before and during the attack constituted engaging in insurrection; their assertion is that Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment disqualifies presidential candidates who have engaged in insurrection against the United States. The Colorado Supreme Court's ruling in Anderson v. Griswold was the first time that a presidential candidate was disqualified from office in a state on the basis of the Fourteenth Amendment. The court stayed its decision until a ruling of the U.S. Supreme Court.
On January 5, 2024, the U.S. Supreme Court granted Trump's petition for a writ of certiorari seeking review of the Colorado Supreme Court ruling in Anderson v. Griswold on an accelerated pace; oral arguments were held on February 8, 2024. On March 4, 2024, the Supreme Court issued a per curiam ruling reversing the Colorado Supreme Court decision. All nine justices held that an individual state cannot determine eligibility under Section 3 for federal office holders, and that such power is conferred exclusively to the federal government. A majority of the court also ruled that only Congress can enforce Section 3: the courts (federal or otherwise) cannot therefore declare a candidate ineligible for office under the said Section 3 unless an Act of Congress explicitly grants them that power; four justices disagreed with the latter decision and expressed concern in concurrences that this ruling went farther than needed at the time. April 25th, 2024: The Criminal MAGA Insurrectionists SCOTUS judges Conspiracy to Obstruct Justice, Tamper with the 2024 Presidential Election, and Overthrow the U.S. Government.
Legal experts and analysts are already organizing on all media outlets and social media to rally Real Americans to call for Presiden Biden to add 4 to 6 Real American justices to SCOTUS. Once the six Real American justices are in place, all Real Americans need to do is vote in unstoppable Democrat majorities in the House and Senate to impeach and remove the six criminal MAGA insurrectionist SCOTUS judges in time for President Biden's inauguration. No matter what, the six criminal MAGA insurrectionist SCOTUS judges have already shown they're actively engaging in attempting to overthrow the U.S. government by annulling Section 3 of the 14th Amendment and illegally modifying the U.S. Constitution by judicial activism and insurrection instead of the majority of states agreeing to modify the U.S. Constitution as legally required; therefore, Real Americans and all sworn officials and officers of the United States must immediately support and defend the U.S. Constitution and the United States of America from all enemies foreign and domestic who've neutralized and destroyed the only constitutional safeguard protecting the U.S. constitution and the United States of America from being overthrown by foreign and domestic enemies.
Post-2024 Elections Timeline of the 119th Congress of the United States of America: Presiding President: Kamala Harris (at least until January 20, 2025) January 3, 2025: Newly-elected Congress scheduled to convene. January 6, 2025: Joint Session to count electoral votes and certify the 2024 United States presidential election. January 20, 2025: 60th Presidential Inauguration.
January 3, 2025 Impeachment of All Six MAGA Insurrectionist SCOTUS Judges: Inescapable Precedent and Reality: On January 28, 2024, House Republicans indicated their intention to move forward with two articles of impeachment against Alejandro Mayorkas, the United States Secretary of Homeland Security, alleging "willful and systemic refusal to comply with the law" and breach of the public trust. On January 31, Republicans on the House Homeland Security Committee approved the articles along party lines for referral to the full House. A full House vote on February 6 to impeach failed to pass in a 214–216 vote, with four House Republicans joining the minority Democratic Party in voting against the impeachment resolution. Mayorkas was impeached in a second vote on February 13, on a 214–213 vote, with three House Republicans voting "no".
Article 1 of the impeachment alleges that Mayorkas "willfully and systematically refused to comply with Federal immigration laws". The article focuses on the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952. The act requires that migrants be detained while waiting for an Asylum decision.
Article 2 of the impeachment alleges that Mayorkas "breached the public trust" by lying to Congress and hindering the House Republican-led investigation into the Department of Homeland Security. Source: Wikipedia
What that means for the six MAGA insurrectionist SCOTUS judges is that all six of them could be fully impeached and removed before President Biden's January 20, 2025 inauguration. And per the Mayorkas impeachment precedent, all that's needed to succeed is a simple and easy one Democrat vote majority in both the House and the Senate. All six MAGA insurrectionist SCOTUS judges did "willfully and sytematically refuse to comply with the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution"; AND did "willfully and systematically interfere with and hinder the legal investigation and prosecution of connie j. chump"; AND did "willfully and systematically engage in interfering with the 2024 U.S. presidential election by attempting to betray the public trust and deny the public's interest in being briefed on the irrefutable evidence of the 91 felony criminal charges and 4 criminal indictments of the treasonous criminal defendent and insurrectionist, connie j. chump, in a timely matter prior to the 2024 U.S. presidential election." And as for the contested and misused Department of Justice "60 Days Prior to an Election Non-Prosecution/Actions" rule, that rule is merely guidance to avoid doing anything that would lead to an INDICTMENT, not a JUDGMENT, against a criminal investigation target; and because connie j. chump was already indicted in 2023, the "60 days prior" guidance doesn't apply to connie j. chump and his legal crisis leading up to the November election. 1 Thessalonians 4:13 Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. 1 Thessalonians 4:14 For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. 1 Thessalonians 4:15 According to the Lord’s word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. 1 Thessalonians 4:16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 1 Thessalonians 4:17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.
1 Peter 1:10 Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care, 1 Peter 1:11 trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of the Messiah and the glories that would follow. 1 Peter 1:12 It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, when they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to look into these things. 1 Peter 1:13 Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming. 1 Peter 1:14 As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. 1 Peter 1:15 But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; 1 Peter 1:16 for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.” 1 Peter 1:17 Since you call on a Father who judges each person’s work impartially, live out your time as foreigners here in reverent fear. 1 Peter 1:18 For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, 1 Peter 1:19 but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. 1 Peter 1:20 He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake. 1 Peter 1:21 Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God.

ARMIE HAMMER'S life seemed beautiful from the outside—perfect wife and kids, sparkling Hollywood career. But a glimpse into his family's dark past reveals how the shocking allegations of rape and abuse may be the latest chapter in a fraught legacy
MAY 2021 JULIE MILLER
ARMIE HAMMER ALREADY needed crisis therapy.
The world was under lockdown last summer, and Hammer had been quarantining at a luxury villa in the Cayman Islands with his father, Michael, his stepmother, Misty, his two young children, and his wife of a decade, Elizabeth.
"It was a very complicated, intense situation, with big personalities all locked in a little tiny place," Hammer told British GQ. " I think, to be quite frank, I came very close to completely losing my mind." He compared himself to a trapped wolf who wants to "chew his own foot off."
Hammer had been so desperate to escape the Caymans that he booked a flight back to the U.S. A source close to Elizabeth claims that his decision to flee his family during a pandemic was the ultimate affront in a marriage that had already been tested by infidelity; she filed for divorce in July. By January 1, Hammer seemed to have rebounded romantically with a series of short-term girlfriends and was ready to face the world anew: "2021 is going to kneel down before me and kiss my feet because this year I'm the boss," Hammer tweeted. "Now I know what we are up against and it's time to go to war."
Several weeks later, however, Hammer found himself in a darker crisis. Amid the turmoil of divorce proceedings, several women took to social media to accuse the actor of emotional abuse, manipulation, and violence. The scandal ballooned as screengrabs circulated that seemed to show the actor describing sexual fantasies involving rape and cannibalism. Hammer stepped away from two high-profile projects, a rom-com with Jennifer Lopez and a Paramount series about the making of The Godfather. Shortly after, his agency, WME, dropped him.
Then, in mid-March, a woman came forward with detailed allegations of rape and an attack so violent that she thought "he was going to kill me." In a press conference with her lawyer Gloria Allred, Effie (who declined to give her full name), recounted a 2017 assault that lasted for several hours, in which Hammer slammed her head against a wall, bruised her face, and whipped her feet with a crop. Hammer's lawyer, Andrew Brettler, has maintained that "all interactions between Mr. Hammer and his former partners were consensual," releasing correspondence between Effie and Hammer over the course of a four-year relationship. But as Allred emphasized to Vanity Fair in an earlier interview for this story, while adults may "consent to some BDSM practices, they still have a right to withhold consent to other practices."
For the people who know Hammer's family—peppered with Russian communists and American oil tycoons—the allegations are an unsurprising development in a long and sordid history with drugs, sex, dysfunction, and betrayal. Many men in the Hammer family have a dark side, sources close to the family say, one that looms across five consecutive generations.
SINS OF THE FATHERS
THE FAMILY'S FIRST brush with scandal was in 1919, when Armie's great-great-grandfather, Dr. Julius Hammer, gave the wife of a Russian diplomat an abortion. Julius was a Russian immigrant living in the Bronx and a central member of the Communist Party of the United States, according to biographer Edward Jay Epstein, who published Dossier: The Secret History of Armand Hammer in 1996. The woman, Marie Oganesoff, died days later. Julius was convicted of first-degree manslaughter and sentenced to 3 and a half to 12 years in Sing Sing.
With Julius in prison, his 22-year-old son, Armand Hammer (Armie's namesake) , abandoned a medical career to take over his father's other business, Allied Drug. According to Epstein, Vladimir Lenin sent a message to Joseph Stalin encouraging "particular support" for Armand, telling him, "This is a small path to the American 'business' world and this path should be made use of in every way." Armand moved to the Soviet Union in 1921 for about a decade to fortify family connections. While there, he married a Russian singer named Olga and together they had a son named Julian— Armie's grandfather.
"I started watching Succession and I had to turn it off," says Armie's aunt Casey, "because it was like, 'Oh, my God. That's my family.'"
By the 1950s, Armand had divorced Olga as well as a second wife, Angela, who had told the court that, due to his time in Russia and his medical training, "[it] causes him no pain to see the sufferings of others." He moved to Los Angeles, married a wealthy woman named Frances Barrett Tolman in 1956, invested her money in the then failing Occidental Petroleum, and drove the company to incredible success.
Armand tried to distance himself from his Soviet connections, reimagining himself as a self-made industrialist—he even hired a journalist to ghostwrite a memoir, The Remarkable Life of Dr. Armand Hammer. He had a private Boeing 727; palled around with Prince Charles and high-powered politicians (he was a close friend of Senator Al Gore Sr. and attended the inaugurations of Franklin D. Roosevelt, Ronald Reagan, and George H. W. Bush, among other presidents); collected expensive artwork; and convinced Chinese leaders to lend two pandas to Los Angeles for the city's 1984 Olympics. He died in 1990.
But in 1996, Epstein's bombshell biography exposed the late Occidental Petroleum chairman for wide-ranging grifts, including laundering money, using artwork to fund Soviet espionage, bribing his way into the oil business, and knocking off Fabergé eggs. According to Epstein, Armand bugged his office and home, plus his cufflinks, to record decades' worth of conversations. He had a fixer and was known to do business with a briefcase full of cash. He also made an illegal contribution to the Nixon reelection campaign which, "in all likelihood," according to The New York Times, "went to help pay for the Watergate cover-up." Though he faced a felony charge for obstructing justice, a Washington lawyer helped him plead guilty to misdemeanor charges, and Bush later pardoned him.
Armand had multiple mistresses, including Martha Kaufman—a mother of two who divorced her husband after meeting Armand, and whom he put on Occidental's payroll as an art consultant. When Armand's wife, Frances, grew suspicious, Armand had Martha legally change her name to Hilary Gibson—insisting, according to Epstein, that his mistress wear wigs, glasses, and makeup to change her appearance. The affair lasted more than a decade, with Armand promising to take care of her and her children after he died, she later told Epstein; she drove a car with a homing device, used a tapped phone, and submitted to his sexual demands even when they were "extremely humiliating." When Armand died, she learned that he had left her out of his will.
"Everything he did was public," said Casey Hammer, Armand's granddaughter and Armie's aunt, who is estranged from most of her family and works as a kitchen designer at a San Diego Home Depot. "God forbid you did anything wrong in front of his friends. You couldn't wear the same dress twice to his gala parties. On the outside, we had to be the perfect family." But behind the scenes, Armand required his son, Julian, daughter-in-law, Glenna Sue, and three grandchildren to make appointments to see him, Casey claimed. "I started watching Succession and I had to turn it off," said Casey, "because it was like, 'Oh, my God. That's my family.' "
Julian was extremely bright, but Armand didn't seem to care much for his only child and passed him over entirely when he left Julian's son, Michael—Armie's father— his business empire. Casey believes her father, Julian, caused too much trouble and was an affront to Armand's obsession with appearances. As she said, he "could never get my grandfather's attention unless he resorted to really, really bad behavior."
In the morning hours after Julian's 26th birthday, in 1955, he killed a man inside his Los Angeles home over a gambling debt and supposed advances on his wife, Glenna Sue. The front-page headlines read "Millionaire's Son Kills GI." Armand had a friend deliver $50,000 in cash to a lawyer in Los Angeles. Julian claimed self-defense, and charges were dismissed.
In her self-published 2015 book, Surviving My Birthright, Casey alleges that Julian sexually abused her when she was a child, and that Julian was abusive to others in the family, allegations she also made to Epstein. In an email, Jan Ward, Casey and Michael's half sister, declined to comment on the allegations, instead offering this statement: "I will say that I love my family very much which includes my brother, my sister, and my nephews...I do have wonderful memories of us kids spending every summer at Laguna Beach with our Grandma Olga and spending the holidays with our parents and grandparents. We were all blessed to be able to attend excellent schools thanks to Grandpa Hammer who was a great supporter of education. Our family taught us the value of hard work and I have had a fulfilling career and a wonderful family life."
Like his father, Michael struggled with excess. In 1985, Michael, then working at Occidental, met Dru Mobley on a plane. The lore, as Armie told New York magazine's Vulture: "My dad was supposed to be on a flight, went to the airport, and got hammered and passed out.... He missed his flight, woke up, and was like, 'Oh God, I have a meeting.'" He rebooked, switched seats due to claustrophobia, and wound up next to Dru. They married that year and had Armie the next. The devout Christian Dru seemed to have a tempering effect on Michael's own vice struggles, which he has said included drinking and drugs. "When I accepted Christ," Michael has said, "the [bad experiences] didn't just stop, but they started dwindling."
DADDY ISSUES
IF ARMAND WANTED to keep the empire he built in the family, he didn't have many options. His son, Julian, was addled and unreliable, and his grandson, Michael, by multiple accounts, was not as bright and more interested in a playboy lifestyle than world domination. When Armie was four, his great-grandfather Armand, estimated by Forbes to be worth around $180 million, died. The battle for the estate began almost immediately and still simmers 30 years later. Within hours of Armand's death, police officers who were summoned to the house observed Michael attempting to remove belongings and load them into five waiting cars. (The house, which had been owned by the late Frances, was to be turned over to Frances's niece upon Armand's death.) Casey and Hilary Gibson claimed that Armand had made promises to his family that his estate would take care of them. But at the will reading in a Los Angeles law office, his heirs learned he'd only left behind a piddly $40 million; Casey and her father would each receive just $250,000. In addition to cutting Julian out, Armand name-checked Jan—Glenna Sue's daughter from another relationship, and thereby his step-granddaughter—as having no claim to his estate.
"All of a sudden, I'm in a bad Stephen King novel," Casey said. "My father is worried about why Michael got the Rolls-Royce. And I'm like, 'Dad, you don't understand. You're going to be out on the street, no one's paying for your house, no one's paying for anything.' " The next day, Casey said that she sat with Julian "so he doesn't blow his brains out because now he's threatening to kill me, he's threatening to kill Michael, he's threatening to kill everybody."
"That's got to be true because that's the weirdest fucking thing I've ever heard. Who would lie about that? That's weirder than saying, 'I tied up 25 people.'"
In total, 100 claims and lawsuits were filed against Armand's estate—by Casey, by former mistresses, by charities alleging that the late tycoon owed them, according to The Washington Post. (Casey says that she settled for about $1.4 million. Epstein reported that Gibson settled for $4.2 million.) The inheritance battle tore the family apart. Michael's own mother, Glenna Sue, told The Washington Post that her son "forgot about us," instead favoring Dru's family. Rumors still linger that Armand had stockpiled large sums in cash lockboxes and secret overseas bank accounts, and those were inflamed when Scott Deitrick—Michael's college friend whom Michael appointed vice president of the Armand Hammer Foundation—was arrested after a flight back from London with $60,000 in undeclared cash. "According to Twin Cities news stories at the time, Deitrick's passport recorded nearly 12 trips abroad lasting less than 36 hours," reported The Washington Post. (Michael posted the $250,000 bail and Deitrick was later acquitted of cash-smuggling charges.)
Armand had yearned for a legacy, spending more than $100 million to build the Hammer Museum. But in 1994, according to The Washington Post, Michael turned it over to the UCLA art department. He also asked the Metropolitan Museum of Art to remove Armand's name from the Hall of Arms and Armor rather than pay the remaining $1 million on his grandfather's pledge. Even though Armand had spent his final years recommitting himself to the Jewish faith—he didn't live to celebrate a belated bar mitzvah for himself in his 92nd year—Michael began redirecting the Hammer Foundation's funds to Christian groups like Jews for Jesus and Italy for Christ.
As of 2021, Armand's name no longer graces the Metropolitan Museum of Art. But it fronts the student center at Oral Roberts University, a Christian school where Dru is a board trustee. In the last two decades, ProPublica's tax-record database shows, the foundation has donated over $3 million to the university and more than $4 million more to the Pentecostal Dream Centers, among a smattering of other causes, religious and not.
Julian died in 1996. The year after, Michael moved Dru, Armie, and his younger son, Viktor, to a seaside condo on Grand Cayman—briefly relinquishing his U.S. citizenship in the '90s. The move, according to Armie, was predicated on Michael's having been a big fan of The Firm, the movie in which Tom Cruise travels to the Caribbean tax haven.
Ten years later the family returned to California, but the transition from the Caribbean was rocky. In 2005, the 21-room manor in Pasadena that the family was renovating burned down, resulting in $15 million worth of damages. In 2011, Michael spent the night in a Santa Barbara jail for a DUI charge that was subsequently dropped. Later that year, significantly bigger trouble blew the Hammers' way when the Knoedler Gallery—part of Michael's inheritance from Armand and one of the oldest New York galleries—shuttered suddenly. The next day, the gallery and its former director Ann Freedman were sued by hedge fund executive Pierre Lagrange for selling him a forged Jackson Pollock painting for $17 million. In the years and lawsuits that followed, Knoedler was accused of selling about $70 million in fake paintings—all done by a little-known artist in Queens—in a con that allegedly stretched back to 1994. In total, Knoedler was accused of selling 63 forged pieces. All of the 10 lawsuits filed against Knoedler were settled, one midway through a high-profile trial in 2016—with Domenico De Sole, chairman of Tom Ford International and Sotheby's, and his wife, Eleanor, seeking $25 million in damages.
During the trial, a Knoedler accountant testified that Michael Hammer had essentially treated the 8-31 Holdings group, which owned the gallery, as his personal piggy bank—using a company credit card to buy, among other things, two luxury cars and a trip to Paris for a little over $1 million. When Michael sold one of the cars, a Rolls-Royce, in 2008, he kept the $452,000 it brought, listing it on his W-2 as salary.
About an hour before Michael was scheduled to testify, both parties reached a settlement. Though some in the art world predicted that Knoedler's downfall would damage Michael's—and tangentially, even Armie's—reputation, it didn't seem to.
We call these guys the lucky sperm club here," said a person with ties to the family. "Never accomplished anything. They know a whole lot about spending other people's money." If there is another skill Michael appears to have, it is hiring good lawyers. Various sources who wanted to speak about the specifics of Michael's business and personal tactics—many of them women—say they are frightened to speak on record or have signed paperwork prohibiting them from doing so. Michael's current lawyer, Tom Clare, is representing Dominion Voting Systems in its defamation lawsuits against Rudy Giuliani and Mike Lindell—seeking more than $1.3 billion in damages from each man for claiming the company's voting machines were used to steal the 2020 election.
In spite of the scandals, Michael remains a regular fixture in Montecito society pages, at car shows, and around charity events benefiting the Santa Barbara police. In 2015, the same year the Armand Hammer Foundation made a $1.1 million donation to the Petersen Automotive Museum, the organization added Michael to its board of directors. The endowment he is most proud of, multiple people say, is his own. For years, three people claimed, Michael boasted about a sex throne or "naughty chair," as he has called it, that he kept in Armand Hammer Foundation headquarters in Carpinteria—a warehouse where two people claim Michael lived for several years after his divorce. The structure, about seven feet high, features a chair with a hole in the seat, a cage underneath, and a hook. The Hammer coat of arms—the same one that, for years, adorned the exterior of the headquarters—is painted on the seat. In one photo Michael sits atop the throne grinning while holding the head of a blond woman, sitting in the cage and also smiling. In response to Vanity Fair's questions about Michael's sex throne, drug and alcohol use, finances, and history with women, Clare, counsel for Michael Hammer and the Armand Hammer Foundation, said, "These questions, which ask about unsolicited gag gifts sent by friends, conduct that sounds pretty typical of recently divorced people, and entirely legal financial transactions that were properly accounted for, are absurd."
One former friend who knew of the sex throne said that, when he heard about Armie's alleged kinks, "I was not the least bit surprised."
In 2017—several years after he and Dru divorced—Michael proposed to Misty Millward, a Four Seasons The Biltmore spa "healer," in Michael's words, who helped him recover from back surgery, with a seven-and-a-half-carat diamond on the Fourth of July. Speaking to the Montecito Journal, Michael said that his proposal had a patriotic theme: a red alligator-skin Birkin bag; Armand's white Rolls, in which he popped the question; and the blue of his very own eyes.
CALL HIM BY HIS NAME
ARMIE HAS THE same blue eyes. And the family name tattooed on his wrist. When Armie Hammer broke through in Hollywood, with 2010's The Social Network, the sordid lore of his family backstory was a footnote, whether forgotten or purposely ignored.
To the world Armie was simply a cartoon-prince-handsome scion. It's easy to discount a beautiful person, especially a beautiful person with a famous last name, as one-dimensional. But Armie spent many interviews over his decade-long career telegraphing his own texture.
In 2018, Armie told Conan O'Brien about his own arrest in 2011—the same year that Michael was pulled over for the DUI in Santa Barbara. Armie and a friend had been transporting supplies for Elizabeth's bakery, Bird, through Texas when their truck was stopped at a checkpoint and a dog sniffed marijuana. Armie spent the night in jail. "The inmates were great," Armie said after cameras cut to a mug shot showing him tanned with a popped collar. "The guards were real assholes."
And yes, he was raised in "the fucking paradise"of the Cayman Islands and "used to have a painting of Gorbachev that was given to my family by Gorbachev." But he was also raised with good values, thanks to Dru, he has said.
"My mother's parents grew up in the Depression in Oklahoma, so it was very different," Armie told GQ. "She didn't allow us to be raised like we were wealthy. We were never just told, 'Hey, here's [some cash].... If our friends were getting a $10 allowance, she would make a point of giving us $7."
He has claimed financial independence from his family throughout his career—"I'm really proud of that"—so much so that, in 2017, he confessed he couldn't pay on a bet he had lost to filmmaker Luca Guadagnino. "It would literally bankrupt me, and I need to buy diapers tomorrow."
Armie's ex has been jokingly her marriage to Ted Bundy movie—Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile.
Armie's upbringing, through his own eyes, was picaresque. As a child in the Cayman Islands, he told Details in 2011, he was a machete-wielding, tree-climbing Tom Sawyer. As an adolescent in Los Angeles, after a family move, he was an outcast truant who identified with Macaulay Culkin's Home Alone character, set school property ablaze, and dropped out of high school. His image-conscious and outwardly religious parents, Armie said, disapproved of his decision to act. "My entire life has been this long, pressured conversation about the family I represented," Armie has said, recalling Armand's own ethos: "When you walk out the door, you represent us." Eventually, Armie found success doing it. When Armie booked a starring role as a young Billy Graham in the 2008 biopic Billy: The Early Years, Dru hosted a screening for about 300 friends at the Hammer Museum's Billy Wilder Theater, confirmed two people with knowledge of the event.
The year after Armie appeared as the Winklevoss twins in The Social Network, he costarred with Leonardo DiCaprio in Clint Eastwood's J. Edgar. A run at marquee stardom followed—the rom-com Mirror Mirror with Julia Roberts; the action epic The Lone Ranger with Johnny Depp; and the 2015 caper film The Man From U.N.C.L.E. alongside Henry Cavill—but fizzled. Armie developed a sense of humor about his lack of success as a leading man. Asked about the low box office return of one film, he deadpanned, " That might be the Armie Hammer effect." As if the box office busts weren't ego damaging enough, BuzzFeed piled on with a damning feature by Anne Helen Petersen titled "Ten Long Years of Trying to Make Armie Hammer Happen." The subheading said it all, and still does: "How many second chances does a handsome white male star get?"
Guadagnino saw grit beneath Armie's surface, though, and cast him in 2017's Oscar-winning indie Call Me by Your Name. "It's not just that he's beautiful-looking," said the filmmaker. "It's that plus his inner turmoil that is fascinating to me." The performance earned Armie a Golden Globe nomination—the most acclaim of his career. But he bristled in one press interview, telling Andy Cohen that his religious mother, Dru, refused to see the film—because the drama centers on a same-sex romance. "It goes against a lot of her very strong religious beliefs," he said.
Occasional familial venting aside, Armie looked the part of the perfect movie star. "He's like this classical leading man...somebody who's a little out of time, like seeing Gary Cooper walk into a supermarket or something," said Armie's Lone Ranger director, Gore Verbinski. And in Elizabeth—a tough woman like Dru, but with an entrepreneurial spirit in lieu of an evangelical one—Armie seemingly found his match. "I mean, they are the Ken and Barbie of the world," gushed Kathie Lee Gifford, a friend of the family, recalling the couple's 2010 wedding.
Some people I spoke to described Armie as a sweet, goofy, unfiltered guy who loves his children. A what-you-see-is-what-you-get kind of person. Timothée Chalamet once described him as the example of "when people present themselves as they truly are. And Armie is as he truly is." In hindsight Armie was perhaps more unfiltered than he or anyone realized.
To Elle: "One chick tried to stab me when we were having sex.... She was like, 'True love leaves scars. You don't have any.' And then she tried to stab me with a butcher knife." He continued to date her for seven months.
Also to Elle: He recalled a violent altercation with a homeless man. "My wife says I have a frontal lobe issue. Your frontal lobe controls your danger response, like, 'Whoa, I shouldn't be doing this.' "
To Details: He recounted the story of a multiday beer-soaked bachelor party that concluded with an epic bonfire, "a giant tequila bottle full of gasoline," and a machine gun.
To Playboy: He discussed the effect Elizabeth had on his bedroom habits. "I used to like to be a dominant lover. I liked the grabbing of the neck and the hair and all that. Then you get married and your sexual appetites change.... You can't really pull your wife's hair. It gets to a point where you say, 'I respect you too much to do these things that I want to do.' "
After Playboy, Armie expressed regret, explaining that he had learned the hard way not to drink during interviews. But for a 2019 British GQ profile, Armie and the writer drank so many martinis that the writer blacked out.
His reported social media liking habits suggested that he was fond of bondage. And he has spoken profusely about his love of knots to Playboy ("a man's version of knitting"), Stephen Colbert (whom he challenged to a knot-tying contest on The Late Show), and InStyle ("l've never admitted this before... sometimes I carry a rope to practice knots").
A source close to Elizabeth said that, when he was not working, Armie would throw himself into hobbies with great intensity. Several years back, Armie introduced Elizabeth to shibari, a Japanese bondage art form in which people are tied up in intricate patterns. Elizabeth tried to be supportive of the new interest, which Armie allegedly indulged by buying mannequins and inventing elaborate knots. Elizabeth even tried to find a lucrative spin on the obsession: "She suggested he write a book about a hobby called Why Knot?" laughed the friend.
Armie and Elizabeth had two children—a daughter in 2014 and a son in 2017, the latter of whom was given the middle name Armand as an homage to the Hammer lineage. According to a friend close to Elizabeth, Armie confessed to being unfaithful shortly after his son's birth—but claimed it was a one-time offense. Years later, this friend says, Elizabeth found evidence of an affair Armie was having with a costar. The Hammers had been in expensive family therapy, but, to Elizabeth, the indiscretions—and more notably his decision to flee the family during a pandemic—were the final straw. When Armie touched down in the U.S., he mistakenly sent a raunchy text message meant for someone else to his estranged spouse. Elizabeth filed for divorce shortly after.
"THE WEIRDEST FUCKING THING I'VE EVER HEARD"
BY HIS OWN admissions over the years, Armie has enjoyed partying—and, finally free from the restrictions of a decade-long marriage, he indulged. Friends close to the family remark that Armie's separation behavior recalls Michael's. Michael's post-split tear is said to have involved a string of women, illicit substances, and tattoos. It's a popular misconception that the Hammers created the Arm & Hammer baking soda brand—Armand settled for investing in it after his bid to buy the company was rejected—but Michael fuels it with a tattoo of the popular logo on his arm. The slogan for Arm & Hammer is "the standard of purity," while Michael allegedly embodied the opposite. Michael, whom multiple people say has the mindset of a teenage boy, also allegedly documented some of his deeds—texting X-rated photos to friends.
Two people claim that Armie did the same, suddenly getting more than five tattoos in a matter of months—including an outline of the Caymans above his knee; a heart that was inked by the in-house tattoo artist at Kaia Gerber's birthday party to match two teenage boys'; the letters "E.G.B.A.," standing for "Everything's gonna be alright"; and the word chaos because he wants his life to be chaos. Said one friend, "I'm pretty sure he's accomplishing that."
Armie also depicted a new dark side on his secret Instagram feed, @el_destructo_86. One photo, of him taking a drug test, was captioned: "All negative, bitches. My body is a finely tuned toxicant processing unit. To be fair I had THC and benzos in my piss. But who doesn't." Another photo showed a mannequin tied up, with the caption, "If quarantine doesn't start moving more quickly I'm going to fuck this thing."
Two women who knew Armie romantically in the last year say they were intoxicated by his charm—and that he was able to cycle through Romeo and Juliet-style romantic proclamations, teary family confessionals, and kinky bedroom scenarios with disorienting ease.
According to Courtney Vucekovich, Armie was on a flight out of the Cayman Islands—escaping the "intense" lockdown situation last June—when he messaged her on Instagram for the first time. The DMs came fast and furiously; the actor immediately spilled about the tense situation with what he described as his "crazy family"— describing near-fistfights with his father and a short-lived escape plan that involved taking a fishing boat to Cuba.
"Within the first five minutes, he was basically like, this all goes back to my horrible childhood," said Vucekovich, the owner of an on-demand glam app called FLASHD. "It's not the most romantic thing, but we bonded over past trauma."
Armie earned her sympathy, according to Vucekovich, through full-court press. "Day one, he makes you feel bad for him; it's when he makes himself look like a victim. Then he love-bombs you like crazy; you've never felt more special in your entire life. I've never seen anything like it. We're in a restaurant, and I'm sitting across from him, and he pulls my chair over, right next to him, in front of everybody—and is hugging and kissing you. You're the only girl in the whole world. And then he starts the manipulation and the darker stuff.
"One of the most shocking things, that I realized he did to other women, is he says that he never tied up a human being before, only mannequins," she continued. "I remember thinking, like, That's got to be true because that's the weirdest fucking thing I've ever heard. Who would lie about that? That's weirder than saying, 'I tied up 25 people.' "
Vucekovich explained that one encounter, which took place during an evening in Sedona, Arizona, left her with regret. Armie, she said, was drinking heavily and persuaded her to participate in "a bondage scenario that I was not comfortable with." He sulked, "cold and angry," to convince her, and then, she said, "I eventually consented and really regretted doing so."
As messy as it was, Vucekovich said she felt like it was a real relationship. Armie had introduced her to his mother, Dru, and talked about bringing her to the Dominican Republic while he filmed a romantic comedy with Jennifer Lopez. But just as fast as the relationship formed, in June, and intensified—the two were spending nearly every day together, she alleged—it ended, in September. She checked herself into a treatment program for trauma.
In September the then 22-year-old Paige Lorenze met Armie. She, too, got an immediate barrage of sordid family secrets. "A lot of really dark stuff," Lorenze said. "I felt confused why he was telling me this stuff so instantly.... It was stuff I would never share off the bat.... He said his grandfather was this kind of very scary person who had these crazy sex parties where there would be guns." But, said Lorenze, there was an unmistakable tone of awe. "He thought it was cool and was proud of him in a way."
Armie took Lorenze to Texas to meet his mother, like he had with Vucekovich. She enjoyed the trip because it felt like a "normal relationship" thing to do but suspected Armie's relationship with Dru was complicated. His mother spoke of "the devil" trying to "take" Armie, and she worried that he didn't believe in God.
Lorenze said that Dru let the two sleep in a bedroom together—jokingly pulling out a ruler and telling them to stay six feet apart—but immediately started grilling her about her religious beliefs. "She was very, very sweet to me. She instantly started talking to me: Well, have I accepted the Holy Spirit? I've never been to such a Christian household."
After a few days Lorenze said that Dru opened up to her "about how she was so worried about Armie and so grateful for me because she felt like I was a good influence on him. And that she just wanted him to accept God back into his life. And that he had just been fighting everything for a long time."
During their time together, Lorenze said, Armie didn't have any money. She said that she paid for "everything," since Armie was only getting by on loans from friends.
Lorenze broke things off with Armie after "he started making rules for me of things I could and couldn't do, who I could have over, who I couldn't. He told me that I couldn't have anyone else in my bed. And then I just started to feel really unsafe and really sick to my stomach about things," she said. "I was also emotionally dependent on him." Lorenze ended the relationship over text "because you never know what you're going to get with him—he's kind of a scary person."
Lorenze has since moved back to the East Coast and wants nothing to do with the entertainment business. She said she didn't plan to speak—or think—about Armie Hammer again.
Then she saw messages posted on the anonymous @houseofeffie Instagram account, purported to be from Armie and detailing extreme BDSM scenarios. The date stamps ranged from 2016 to 2020—overlapping with Armie's marriage to Elizabeth (who, through a representative, declined to be interviewed for this story).
"I saw these screenshots and my stomach just dropped, like, Holy fuck," said Lorenze. "Because he would say things to me...weird stuff..like, 'I want to eat your ribs.' The scariest part of it is that I did love him in a way. I would've let him kind of do anything. He had a certain hold over me."
Lorenze said that she spoke up for several reasons: to support the other women coming forward, to hold Armie accountable for what she claims he did to her, and to open up conversations about consent. "Consent is really complicated—even if it's consenting to something in vanilla sex that you don't really want to do, and say yes to...it can be really traumatizing." Lorenze said that she hopes to "start an organization that can advocate for safe sex and women learning how to say no."
After a version of this story was published online in March, Effie, the 24-year-old woman presumed to be behind the Instagram account, came forward accusing Armie of raping and beating her. "He also committed other acts of violence against me to which I did not consent," she told reporters, while crying. "During those four hours I tried to get away, but he wouldn't let me."
Allred said her client had turned evidence over to authorities, adding, "It is for law enforcement and for the prosecutor to decide if there is sufficient evidence to pursue it. I will only say that Effie has the courage to cooperate with any investigation that may be taking place." Afterward, Los Angeles police confirmed that they have been investigating Armie since February 3.
The allegations raise a raft of complicated questions about consent, BDSM boundaries, and the intersection of abuse claims and social media. Speaking to Vanity Fair weeks before the press conference, Allred acknowledged that consent is especially complex in the BDSM community, where control and power are kinks.
"The public has not been educated on how to view those who engage in BDSM practices. In addition, those who have heard of the BDSM community may have a negative opinion of those who engage in such practices," said Allred. "Part of the problem is that the victim is extremely vulnerable and trusting," she said, "and is often taken advantage of by sexual predators who know that many of their victims will be afraid to report the crimes against them for fear of being blamed and shamed and not believed when they say that they did not consent to crimes against them."
No criminal charges or lawsuits have been filed against the actor at the time of print publication, although the LAPD's investigation was ongoing. Those in Armie's camp mainly blame the scandal on the unverified gossip account @deuxmoi, which amplified the claims to more than 750,000 users in January. "You used to have to verify facts before making allegations like this," said one friend, speaking on the condition of anonymity. "He's being attacked from all different angles on unverified claims.... It's hard for people around him to watch this."
Armie has never confirmed the texts are his own—but the impulses he purportedly described in messages to various women are unsettling at best:
"I am 100% a cannibal.... Fuck. That's scary to admit. I've never admitted that before. I've cut the heart out of a living animal before and eaten it while still warm."
"I want to see your brain, your blood, your organs, every part of you. I would definitely bite it. 100%. Or try to fuck it. Not sure which. Probably both."
"If I fucked you into a vegetative state id keep you, feed you, watch you, and keep fucking you.... Till you are so sore and broken.... I can't stop thinking of [fucking] your actual brain."
"Brand you, tattoo you, mark you, shave your head and keep your hair with me, cut a piece of your skin off and make you cook it for me.... 'Who's slave/master relationship is the strongest?' We'd win. When I tell you to slit your wrists and use the blood for anal."
"Raping you on your floor with a knife against you. Everything else seemed boring. You crying and screaming, me standing over you. I felt like a god. I've never felt such power or intensity."
If Armie is guilty of anything, his friend insists, it's having a penchant for super-kinky sex. Katharine Gates, a social anthropologist and the author of Deviant Desires, told The Cut in January that there is indeed a cannibal form of sex role play that tends to "involve more realistic scenarios... [but i]t's still fantasy—they're not actually eating pieces of people, but you will have one person be the meat and another is the preparer." Victoria Hartmann, author of I Love Dead People: Inside the Minds of Death Fetishists, told GQ that most people into cannibalism role play are not interested in actually harming anyone. Because of the confusion and taboos, Armie's friend thinks that the actor is being unfairly targeted and embarrassed.
One person who has known both Armie and Elizabeth for a decade thinks Armie's "very dry sense of humor" and a lack of context around the text messages are to blame. When the rib-eating, toe-cutting screenshots first appeared online, the person said, "I was like, this is just Armie making really perverse jokes. And then it got conflated with his [seemingly] newfound interest in BDSM sex, which is his prerogative." Sexual abuse allegations are especially charged in a post-#MeToo climate: "There are a lot of nuances to the subject of sex and consent, and it's just not a topic that people are really patient about these days," the person said. "He's a really down-to-earth guy. I think he's just having a moment."
After all of this, Armie has boomeranged back to the Cayman luxury hotel he was so desperate to flee. "Well...my ex (for a very good reason) wife is refusing to come back to america with my children," he wrote on his private Instagram. "So I have to go back to Cayman...which sucks. Except there are a few silver linings." Above the caption was a video that showed a woman, from behind, wearing black lace lingerie and down on all fours on his bed. "Like fucking Ms. Cayman again while I'm down there." (Armie later issued an apology and clarification that the woman in his picture was not the actual Miss Cayman.) Another post read, "Divorce is so fun. Not as fun as drugs. But what is."
According to Brettler, "Armie's primary concern now is seeing his kids."
ARMIE MAY NOT be the first Hammer accused of darkness, but he could be the first to suffer public consequences. His last film—titled, unbelievably, Crisis—premiered in the quiet shadow of its star's P.R. spiral in February. Another film, Death on the Nile, an Agatha Christie adaptation costarring Gal Gadot, is currently scheduled for a September release. The only statement Armie made came in January, when he told the public why he was leaving the Jennifer Lopez rom-com: "I'm not responding to these bullshit claims but in light of the vicious and spurious online attacks against me, I cannot in good conscience now leave my children for 4 months to shoot a film in the Dominican Republic." Armie's lawyer told Vanity Fair he would not be commenting for this story.
Those who know Armie professionally have had a hard time watching the Armie they knew seemingly implode in a fit of social media posts, bad behavior, and substance abuse in recent months. (Though how would Armie's namesake, Armand, have fared in a social media world?) But neither will anyone speak on record to support him.
Several people in Armie's camp imply that the timing of the allegations, given the divorce proceedings, is suspicious. But a source close to Elizabeth says that she has been "blindsided left, right, and center." She was humiliated enough seeing Armie photographed with a string of women so shortly after filing for divorce, when their children had not even been aware of the split. "The internet is forever, and it kills her that one day her children will see how brazen their father has been, not only with his casual dating and drug use, but with these deeply disturbing allegations."
A person once close to the family has expressed genuine concern for Elizabeth as she moves forward in her custody battle with the Hammers. "I want to tell her to be careful," the person said. " I hope she can just get off that island soon."
Elizabeth has told friends that while she is fearful herself, she is projecting strength for the kids and trying to find occasional humor in the darkness. She's been joking to friends that the only thing that makes sense to her, looking back on her marriage since the allegations surfaced, is the Netflix movie starring Zac Efron as Ted Bundy—Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile.
People are worried about Casey too. She has been speaking openly about her family's alleged secrets in the wake of the public's newfound interest in the Hammers. Recently, she received a text message from a woman who knows three generations of Hammer men
"Don't go out after dark," the woman texted her. "If you do, go in a group. Park under a light and near a store entrance. Valet as much as you can. Be 'aware' and 'beware.' Always check to make sure you're not being followed.... Watch your surroundings for a stranger's face that appears more than once."
Right now Casey has about $100 in her savings account.
"If you would have told me in my 20s that I would end up financially challenged, single, and working at Home Depot, I would have bet you a million dollars that wouldn't have happened." The inheritance settlement lasted her 18 years, and she's been getting by on her own since then, she said, eating Progresso soup and bologna sandwiches.
She joked—sort of—about her own plans. "I'm going to walk into [talent agency] WME," Casey said, "and I'm going to tell them, 'You got rid of the bad Hammer. Now how about you take the good one.' "
If her brother, Michael, had given her even one of the family paintings, she said, she'd be set for life. "I never was taught to save money or to think ahead. I never thought it would end. It's okay, though. Because I broke the cycle, if that makes sense, and got away from the Hammer genetic trail."

Holy shit!
But I find it interesting that TWO Lavender Mafia mags have done takedowns of Hammer. Vanity Fair used to write tabloid crap on Michael Jackson and did/does favors for Harvey Weinstein. Buzzfeed is also a mouthpiece for the Hollywood Cabal. Could be they didn't like the thought of Hammer becoming powerful in Tinseltown but luckily for them, he seems like colossal screw up. Conde Nast also owns Vogue, Anna Wintour Central.

Pray for Peace - Peace March from Humac to Medjugorje 2021
Peace march from Humac to Medjugorje with visionary Ivan Dragovic and Father Marinko Sakota on the 40th anniversary of the apparitions on June 24, 2021 Today, on the feast of St. John the Baptist, on June 24th, 2021 the great peace march took place in Medjugorje. Thousands of people made the pilgrimage from Humac, singing and praying, to Medjugorje, where Jesus was worshiped in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar. Ivan Dragicevic, a visionary, was among the pilgrims. An enthusiastic pilgrim says: “There were around 10,000 people there - more than probably never before! The people walked and sang joyfully, waved to the people along the way and had a happy smile on their faces. It was an encounter of joy and love in the heart of Our Lady! " 40 years ago today - on June 24, 1981 - Our Lady appeared for the first time in Medjugorje on Podbrodo and referred to the baby Jesus in her arms. John the Baptist and Our Lady, both, refer us today to JESUS, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. Jesus, Lamb of God, give us your peace!

Matthew Quirk Interview by Elise Cooper
The Night Agent by Matthew Quirk was published in 2021.  It has been made into a Netflix TV series, http://www.netflix.com/thenightagent, and was released on March 23rd. Both the show and book are riveting thrillers that delve into corruption at the highest levels of government.
The plot has FBI Agent Peter Sutherland tapped to work in the White House Situation Room. When Peter was a boy, his father was suspected of being a traitor, a breach that cost him his career, his reputation, and eventually his life. Now Peter’s job is monitoring an emergency telephone line from US diplomats or assets in trouble. The phone never rings until one night a terrified young woman named Rose tells Peter that her aunt and uncle are being threatened and the perpetrator is after her. Peter believes her and decides to help, thrusting him and Rose into danger as they try to find out if there is a traitor in the White House.
People can watch the Netflix episodes first and then read the book or vice versa.  In both cases there is a riveting story that has some different aspects between the book and the series.  Below is an interview with the stars of the show, Gabriel Basso (Peter Sutherland), Luciane Buchanan (Rose Larkin), the creator/showrunner/executive producer, Shawn Ryan, and the author, Matthew Quirk.
Elise Cooper: After watching the Netflix episodes people could still go back and read the book because of the differences. Do you agree?
Matthew Quirk: People are not watching a rendition of the book. The show and the book are on their own terms. It is wild to see a scene I have written on screen, but there were also things that happened I did not write.  I really loved the series.  My wife and I were able to watch all ten episodes. I forgot it was my book.  We were completely hooked.  I am grateful to everyone involved in the production. The fun of it was seeing some of my scenes filmed and bringing in new stuff to give it a second life. It was fascinating to see how they did it and bring all the pieces together. Yet, both the book and the series have a man/woman on the run. They have the same spirit.
Shawn Ryan: I encourage people to read the book and watch the series.  Matthew was great telling me to change what I wanted to change. For instance, the Metro bombing in the book is almost like a memory, whereas in the show I elevated it to a crucial event. There is a lot in the spine of the book that provides the spine of the show, a lot we filled in, and some things we felt we changed for the better. The book and the show are very much related, but they are also different artistic endeavors.  I think you can enjoy both independently.
EC:  What was your idea for the story?
Matthew: The world of the Night Agent does come from real life although I did take some liberties.  It is something that is put on diplomatic cables to indicate the importance.  Someone like Peter must wake-up an important official including the President.  A relatively junior person on the Situation Room desk, if it happens in the middle of the night, that person could be briefing the President, the first point of contact of a global disaster.
Shawn:  The story of a young man who wishes he knew more about his deceased father. I had an experience where my father died suddenly.  As I cleaned up his house, I found some stuff that had me wanting to ask him questions about his past, but I knew I would not have that chance.  I think I worked out my personal stuff through this story.
Matthew:  I also wanted to have the accusations against Peter’s father as a cloud over him. His loyalty is being questioned for the sins of his father.  I had friends whose stories are not dissimilar.  The evil states try to entrap Americans and their tactics are very brutal. I tried to show how the Cold War was played out between the generations of Peter and his father.
EC:  How did you come by the story?
Shawn: I read thrillers and have a couple of friends who are authors, Gregg Hurwitz, and Robert Crais. In this case I had a meeting with Jamie Vanderbilt, the writer and producer whose company optioned the book. He asked if I would be interested. After reading this book I fell in love with the characters and saw an opportunity for the Secret Service arc I had been working on.  I did not feel there was enough in the book for ten episodes.
Matthew: I had a friend who worked for the FBI in DC and would disappear every night around ten pm. People would whisper what was his job.  This idea stuck with me even though I did not know what his actual job was.  After speaking with my agent and friends, we all thought this is a good premise for a book. I came up with the story including the phone that never rings. The whole story is based on my imagination of what my friend did. I wanted to write something like classic 70s thrillers, written by Robert Ludlum.
EC:  What about the Secret Service arc that was not in the book?
Shawn: I had been working on a Secret Service story independently but did not have enough for one show. I did not want to do a Secret Service story about protecting the President considering we see that a lot. I thought what jobs would not be prestigious in the protection part of that organization. I always have been fascinated in children of Presidents going off to college. How would that work?  I did speak to someone on Chelsea Clinton’s detail.  I essentially said this is how I imagine it and he thought I was close to reality.
Matthew: This made it fun because now I am watching as a viewer, with all the surprises. Shawn and I did talk a little bit on where the story was going.  But overall, my attitude was ‘go for it’ since ‘I love your stuff and trust you.’ I also was invited to the set to watch some of the filming. I did chat with the actors and actresses briefly on the set.
EC:  What about this quote in the show, “The Secret Service’s job is to protect the institution.”
Shawn:  Those in the Secret Service must be different political types.  Someone is willing to give up their life for Barack Obama, then Donald Trump, and then Joe Biden.  I have always been interested in the mentality of this.  They believe they are standing up for the institution of the Presidency and Democracy.  The above quote by the Secret Service character Eric Monks is what he believes, standing up for a set of values.
EC:  What were your favorite scenes in the series versus the book?
Matthew:  The Secret Service arcs. The actors, D. B. Woodside who played Erik Monks, and Fola Evans-Akingbola, who played Chelsea Arrington, absolutely did a great job with their portrayals.  This was all Shawn Ryan’s part of the story.
EC:  Is it a David versus Goliath story?
Matthew:  I think the espionage stuff mingled with the mundane. They are spies where on the weekends they would go to their children’s soccer games.  They have suburban lives. The international intrigue intruded on the normal, boring, suburban life. It was a David versus Goliath story with a lowly analyst up against many powerful state actors.
Shawn: Ultimately what I really liked that emulates from Matthew’s book is that it is an underdog story. Peter is the least important person in a very important place, until that phone rings. This is like an Alfred Hitchcock movie where a very ordinary person is put in a very extraordinary circumstance. He is not a Jason Bourne or John Wick who would take on ten people in a room and come out victorious. I liked that Peter gets bruised and battered and yet keeps going.  This could be a lesson for us: we might be overwhelmed at times with circumstances bigger than we can imagine yet we plow forward to do the right thing.
Gabriel who plays Peter: A better analogy is Hercules versus the Hydra.  One head is cut off and more heads grow.  It never feels like it’s a singular enemy and you do not know who it is, always being betrayed. This is what I likened it too.
EC:  How would you describe Peter?
Shawn:  This is a case where the collaboration between Matthew and me is very important. There is something noble about Peter, not wanting a lot of attention. He must be super careful because of the backstory involving his father. I absolutely think he is a bit naïve, which he must overcome throughout these ten episodes.  I took pieces from my own marriage without realizing it. I tend to be like Peter in my life, immediately trust people until proven otherwise.   Where my wife tends to be like Rose, justifiably skeptical.
Matthew: A rule follower, calm, bright, ambitious, curious, meticulous, confident, and honest to a fault. What I wanted to do with Peter, is force him to face the most difficult challenges.  He was on the Metro train that was bombed, which lit a fire under him.  He felt there was a conspiracy that drew him into the high stakes plot. Readers will question if he changed in the book, or did he have things bottled up most of his life?
Gabriel: Relentless, not caring about his own personal risk.  He goes for it. He has become a rule follower because it was told to him by his dad that it matters.  When you uphold the system, you uphold the principles behind the system. It does not make sense to him how those who took an oath are lying and manipulative.  He feels betrayed by the whole process.
EC:  How would you describe Rose?
Matthew: A survivor, sharp, tough, fearless, determined, and adaptable. She is a foil to Peter, because she is resourceful and does what it takes to get things done.
Shawn:  I was having trouble with her characterization. I contacted Matthew and asked him what he was thinking with Rose. He told me something that really unlocked her for me, ‘I always thought of Peter as a rule follower and Rose is a rule breaker.  The two of them must become a little more like each other to survive together.’ She had to live by her wits from a young age with no father and an absentee mother.
Luciane who played Rose: Very driven and ambitious. She is at a very, very low point in her life.  I think she is like Peter; both are loners.
EC:  Why did you choose the role?
Gabriel:  I talked to Shawn, and he told me Peter will be real, grounded, and his hits will be grimy, with Peter out of his depth. Peter will not have to be Superman. I liked that a lot.  I think it is more layered and nuanced than ‘I am the protagonist, get out of my way.’ It is more fun and serious.  I was able to invest in the story. I think what helped is that I have been hit in real life, so I know what it is like. The tattoos are real; the scars are real. I am real.  I did all the fighting and most of the other stuff.  Except where insurance thought it too risky so the stunt coordinator would do it.
EC: Will there be a season two with the same actors?
Shawn: We would love to make a season two.  I hope there are enough people to watch season one and like it.  It is important to me that each season tells its own story with a new location. Peter will probably be one of those characters.
Luciane: We do not make the decisions, but Gabriel and I hope there will be a season two.
Matthew:  Right now, I have no plans to write a sequel to The Night Agent.
Thank you!!

Daily Devotionals for March 21, 2021
Proverbs: God's Wisdom for Daily Living
Devotional Scripture:
Proverbs 12:5-7(KJV): 5 The thoughts of the righteous are right: but the counsels of the wicked are deceit. 6 The words of the wicked are to lie in wait for blood: but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them. 7 The wicked are overthrown, and are not: but the house of the righteous shall stand.
Thought for the Day
Verse 5 - The book of Proverbs contrasts the thoughts and words of the righteous with those of the wicked. Looking at these verses carefully, we notice the progression of both sin and righteousness. Both of them first proceed from the heart. Next, they become thoughts in the mind, and finally are manifested in our actions. Sin begins in a man's heart; first, a man will have thoughts about the sin, then his mouth will speak of those sins, and finally he will actually commit those sins. The same is true of righteousness; it also proceeds from the heart, and forms righteous thoughts. As a man speaks of those thoughts, he will finally act upon them and bring them forth as righteous deeds.
Jesus confirms this in Mark 7:20-23: "And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man."
The Bible tells us that all people have the tendency to sin. How can we have a change of heart and be free from sin? We can be free only by being born again. We must confess our sins to God, acknowledge that Jesus Christ died in our place to pay the penalty for our sins, ask His forgiveness, and invite Him to come into our lives and give us new hearts. As we surrender our lives to God, the Holy Spirit breaks sin's power over us. "...So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal bodies, to make you obey their passions. Do not yield your members to sin as instruments of wickedness, but yield yourselves to God as men who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments of righteousness" (Romans 6:9-13 RSV).
Verse 6 - Though the wicked plot murder, the righteous can prevent it through prayer. Speaking God's protection over a situation can destroy the plans of the wicked and establish the righteous. "No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD..." (Isaiah 54:17a). Psalm 91 contains many promises of God's protection that we can pray aloud for others or ourselves.
Verse 7 - To walk in righteousness so that our "houses will stand," we must keep our minds on the things of God; guarding our hearts. As we saw above, sin is produced in the heart. Satan tries to enter through our "eye and ear gates." We must be careful of what we expose ourselves to on television, the Internet, and in books. Parents should monitor these, along with video games and music. It is not a sin to have an evil thought; it is sin to consider it and dwell upon it. We can resist evil thoughts with God's Word (James 4:6-7). For instance, if tempted to covet, we can resist it by remembering the commandments not to covet (Exodus 20:17) and to be content with what God has given us (Hebrews 13:5). We can also remember that the Lord desires to bless all His children: He will bless us in due time if we are not jealous of others.
Prayer Devotional for the Day
Dear Father God, I am grateful for all the times that Your hand of protection has been over my family. Thank You! Help me to keep my thoughts on good things and take those things out of my heart that are not like You. Forgive me when I dwell upon wrong thoughts and fail to resist the devil immediately. I do want a clean heart and a pure mind. Help me to resist the evil that is in the world and keep my thoughts on edifying things. Lord, I pray for all the Christian parents who are raising their children in this crooked generation. Give them wisdom and love as they instruct their children in Your ways. Remove rebellion from the hearts of people whose thinking is perverted. Protect our children in the schools and on the streets. Have mercy on us and give us Your grace to be good examples to our children and young people we know. In Jesus' name I ask. Amen.

Holy Forty Martyrs of Sebaste
Jude 1-10 (Epistle)
Jude, a bondservant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, To those who are called, sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ: Mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you. Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints. For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ. But I want to remind you, though you once knew this, that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe. And the angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day; as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. Likewise also these dreamers defile the flesh, reject authority, and speak evil of dignitaries. Yet Michael the archangel, in contending with the devil, when he disputed about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him a reviling accusation, but said, “The Lord rebuke you!” But these speak evil of whatever they do not know; and whatever they know naturally, like brute beasts, in these things they corrupt themselves.
Heb 12.1-10 (Epistle—Martyrs)
Brethren, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls. You have not yet resisted to bloodshed, striving against sin. And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: “My son, do not despise the chastening of the LORD, Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him; For whom the LORD loves He chastens, and scourges every son whom He receives.” If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons. Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much more readily be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live? For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed best to them, but He for our profit, that we may be partakers of His holiness.
Luke 22.39-42, 45-23.1 (Gospel)
At that time, Jesus went to the Mount of Olives, as He was accustomed, and His disciples also followed Him. When He came to the place, He said to them, “Pray that you may not enter into temptation.” And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt down and prayed, saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.” . . . When He rose up from prayer, and had come to His disciples, He found them sleeping from sorrow. Then He said to them, “Why do you sleep? Rise and pray, lest you enter into temptation.” And while He was still speaking, behold, a multitude; and he who was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them and drew near to Jesus to kiss Him. But Jesus said to him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?” When those around Him saw what was going to happen, they said to Him, “Lord, shall we strike with the sword?” And one of them struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his right ear. But Jesus answered and said, “Permit even this.” And He touched his ear and healed him. Then Jesus said to the chief priests, captains of the temple, and the elders who had come to Him, “Have you come out, as against a robber, with swords and clubs? When I was with you daily in the temple, you did not try to seize Me. But this is your hour, and the power of darkness. Having arrested Him, they led Him and brought Him into the high priest’s house. But Peter followed at a distance. Now when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the courtyard and sat down together, Peter sat among them. And a certain servant girl, seeing him as he sat by the fire, looked intently at him and said, “This man was also with Him.” But he denied Him, saying, “Woman, I do not know Him.” And after a little while another saw him and said, “You also are of them.” But Peter said, “Man, I am not!” Then after about an hour had passed, another confidently affirmed, saying, “Surely this fellow also was with Him, for he is a Galilean.” But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are saying!” Immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed. And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had said to him, “Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.” So Peter went out and wept bitterly. Now the men who held Jesus mocked Him and beat Him. And having blindfolded Him, they struck Him on the face and asked Him, saying, “Prophesy! Who is the one who struck You?” And many other things they blasphemously spoke against Him. As soon as it was day, the elders of the people, both chief priests and scribes, came together and led Him into their council, saying, If You are the Christ, tell us. But He said to them, “If I tell you, you will by no means believe. And if I also ask you, you will by no means answer Me or let Me go. Hereafter the Son of Man will sit on the right hand of the power of God. Then they all said, “Are You then the Son of God?” So He said to them, “You rightly say that I am.” And they said, “What further testimony do we need? For we have heard it ourselves from His own mouth.” Then the whole multitude of them arose and led Him to Pilate.
Matt 20.1-16 (Gospel—Martyrs)
The Lord said this parable: the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. Now when he had agreed with the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard. And he went out about the third hour and saw others standing idle in the marketplace, and said to them, ‘You also go into the vineyard, and whatever is right I will give you.’ So they went. Again he went out about the sixth and the ninth hour, and did likewise. And about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing idle, and said to them, ‘Why have you been standing here idle all day?’ They said to him, ‘Because no one hired us.’ He said to them, ‘You also go into the vineyard, and whatever is right you will receive.’ So when evening had come, the owner of the vineyard said to his steward, ‘Call the laborers and give them their wages, beginning with the last to the first.’ And when those came who were hired about the eleventh hour, they each received a denarius. But when the first came, they supposed that they would receive more; and they likewise received each a denarius. And when they had received it, they complained against the landowner, saying, ‘These last men have worked only one hour, and you made them equal to us who have borne the burden and the heat of the day.’ But he answered one of them and said, ‘Friend, I am doing you no wrong. Did you not agree with me for a denarius? ’Take what is yours and go your way. I wish to give to this last man the same as to you. ’Is it not lawful for me to do what I wish with my own things? Or is your eye evil because I am good?’ So the last will be first, and the first last. For many are called, but few chosen.

Baptism Testimony
This is a testimony of how the Lord pursued me for decades before I came to Christ. I was born in Vietnam and lived there until the age of 7 when I immigrated to California with my family. In Vietnam, most people worship their ancestors and various idols which include the Buddha. My family does the same.
When I was around 5, my older siblings started attending a Protestant church and brought me there with my mom. It was the first encounter I had with the Lord’s house and immediately I felt at home. The church had a completely different ambience than the ominous temples that we used to visit where I had to bow down and make offerings to idol statues whose eyes seemed to watch my every move. The temples were supposed to offer us spiritual rest, but the heavy smoke from the incense and the monotonous chanting made them feel creepy to me.
So I was pleasantly surprised when I walked into church that day and felt so welcomed by all the congregants there. The beautiful hymns, the sense of community, the love, and the candy—I was sold on Christianity.
Unfortunately, my father wasn’t and we stopped going to church. But that first encounter with the Lord’s people stayed with me, and the Lord continued to send believers into my life to witness to me. I met very kind and joyful people who encouraged me to go to church and it made me curious about Christianity because I could tell that they held a steady peace inside of them.
After college, I moved to the Bay Area where I lived and worked for 8 years. It was there that I started to visit churches, but never found one that impacted me as the one from my childhood. I tried reading the Bible a couple of times, but it was the King James Version and I couldn’t really understand it. The fire for Christ would not be ignited until after I had lived abroad in 6 different countries for 5 years.
In early September of 2021, I fell ill. It was at the height of COVID restrictions where I was living, and we could not visit people from other neighborhoods, could not call taxis, and could not receive any mail, packages, or food deliveries. I became sick and didn’t know what I had. There was no fever, no cough, so it couldn’t have been COVID, I thought. I was just very fatigued with a bad migraine and couldn’t get out of bed.
I still remember that day. It was windy and stormy outside. A torrent of rain poured down and splattered against my bedroom windows. The clouds darkened the sky,
and flashes of lightning and thunder bolted throughout the day and the night. Trapped in an apartment all by myself without reliable transportation, I lay in my bed terrified and cried out to God to save me. Then I remembered a quote “Repent, and you will be forgiven.” I was totally confused.
Here I was asking God to save me—why was He telling me that I needed to be forgiven? For what? I knew I was a good person. Then all of a sudden, memories started bubbling up of how I’d sinned against others or had been selfish. In that moment, without having read much of the Bible or about sin, I saw myself as a sinner. Tears streamed down my face as I sobbed uncontrollably and asked God to forgive me.
Two or three days later, I recovered and decided to move back to the States so I could attend church again. I came back to the US in late September last year, and the Lord continued His work in me. He led me to start studying the Bible in March of this year. It was through the study of His Word that I became born again and began to have a clearer perspective of the journey the Lord had led me on to find Him.
“Turn to Me and be saved, all the ends of the earth; For I am God, and there is no other.” — Isaiah 45:22.
Through God’s Word, I learned that Jesus Christ is the Son of God who came into the world, lived a sinless life, and died on the cross to bear the wrath that was reserved for sinners like me. He rose again on the third day so that His righteousness would be credited to all who call Him Lord and Savior.
“Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.” — John 14:27
In Christ I no longer have to feel ashamed of the sins that burden my heart. God has given His assurance that when I actively repent, I will unlock the reconciliation He’s promised through the cross of Christ.
Where He will go, I will go, and where He lodges, I will lodge. His people shall be my people, and their God, my God.

Week 05 / A Study In 1 Corinthians / Revealed To Us Through God's Spirit
October 18 2022 Tuesday
Week 05 / A Study In 1 Corinthians
Revealed To Us Through God's Spirit
Ephesians 1:15-23 NLT
'Ever since I first heard of your strong faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for God’s people everywhere, I have not stopped thanking God for you. I pray for you constantly, asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God. I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance. I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms. Now he is far above any ruler or authority or power or leader or anything else—not only in this world but also in the world to come. God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the church. And the church is his body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself.’
Ephesians 3:14-21 NLT
'When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen.'

Hanyō no Yashahime: The Reason the Yashahimes Fight What it Means to Depict Sesshōmaru as A Father “The Second Chapter” Director Hishida Masakazu Speaks
The continuation of “Hanyō no Yashahime”, “Hanyō no Yashahime, The Second Chapter”, which stars the daughters of Sesshōmaru and Inuyasha from Takahashi Rumiko-sensei’s popular manga “Inuyasha”, began in October. In “The Second Chapter”, Hishida Masakazu, who is known for series like “Pretty Rhythm” and “KING OF PRISM”, serves as the director. Director Hishida has his origins with Sunrise which produced the Inuyasha series and “Hanyō no Yashahime”.  He himself has a lot of emotional attachment to “Inuyasha” as it was the work where he made his production debut. Following the “Inuyasha” world and the previous work “Hanyō no Yashahime, The First Chapter”, we asked what he’s focused on in depicting “The Second Chapter”.
“Hanyō no Yashahime” Has a Fresh Feeling Like Back When He Was a Newbie
“Hanyō no Yashahime” depicts the twin daughters of Sesshōmaru and Rin, Towa and Setsuna, and the daughter of Kagome and Inuyasha, Moroha, crossing over time between the modern and feudal era, running rampant as they please. Takahashi Rumiko-san handled the main character design and Sumisawa Katsuyuki-san oversees the series composition. Just like “Inuyasha” and “Inuyasha, The Final Act”, it is produced by Sunrise. “The First Chapter” was broadcasted from October 2020 to March 2021.
In “The First Chapter”, Satō Teruo, who was the assistant director for “Inuyasha, The Final Act”, served as the director. Director Hishida became the director starting from “The Second Chapter”. Upon being announced as the new director, he commented that “Inuyasha” was very memorable to him as it was the work he made his production debut on at his origin, Sunrise, and it was also the work that helped him grow as an anime producer. He looks back on his time working on “Inuyasha” as “(I was) Truly overflowing with motivation”.
“Before “Inuyasha”, I took part in “Turn A Gundam” but my debut didn’t happen in “Turn A Gundam”. Just as I was feeling anguished, they let me debut in “Inuyasha”, so I’m truly grateful to the work. For Sunrise back then, I think “Inuyasha” was a type of work they didn’t do much of. There was a lot mecha back then, so having the feudal era as the setting where demons appear, and battles being fought with Japanese swords was probably unusual. It was fun.”
For “Hanyō no Yashahime”, series composition writer Sumisawa-san, character designer Hishinuma Yoshihito-san, music composer Wada Kaoru-san, and the staff of the “Inuyasha” series regathered. Hishida-san says that he’s taking on the work with “the same feeling as when he was a newbie” back when anime “Inuyasha” started in 2000.
“At the work site for “Hanyō no Yashahime”, the main staff of “Inuyasha” who taught me how to work 20 years ago, is still the same as before. All those people are vigorously giving it their all. That’s why when the discussion of being the director was brought up to me, I thought “I want to do this”. I think only this work site can give me that fresh feeling of when I was a newbie, so I’m happy.”
Sesshōmaru Doesn’t Show His Fatherly Side as Much as Possible; Following the “Inuyasha” World
With Director Hishida working on “The Second Chapter”, he places importance on “Continuing the course of the first chapter while still staying in line with the ‘Inuyasha’ world”.
“I feel that the world of ‘Inuyasha’ must not be destroyed. I always check everything with the world setup of Inuyasha, thinking about how something would play out in ‘Inuyasha’, so I get worried every time. I always worry about things like “Would this character say something like this?”, and it’s a struggle. However, the ‘Inuyasha’ know-how is accumulated at the studio and continues to be followed, so I can entrust the storyboard and (everything) after with ease.”
“Hanyō no Yashahime” inherits the world of “Inuyasha”, but it’s a new story where Sesshōmaru and Inuyasha’s daughters are the stars. The characters that appeared in “Inuyasha” have changed. What is symbolic is Sesshōmaru who has become a father. In “The Second Chapter”, there’s a scene that depicts a brief glimpse of Sesshōmaru’s fatherly side.
“Actually, I do my best not to show Sesshōmaru’s fatherly face as much as possible. Because it’s Sesshōmaru. Towa and Setsuna are half demons born between with him and Rin and he’s not the typical father. Even if he does have love for his daughters, Sesshōmaru won’t show it. However, during recording, Narita Ken-san who plays Sesshōmaru would always ooze affection (in his acting), and we would have to do a retake like “Please have more restraint”. I truly feel bad for Narita-san. While I do want to have everyone listen to Sesshōmaru’s affectionate voice, I want to place importance on Sesshōmaru’s way of raising children.”
The Difference Between “Inuyasha” and “Hanyō no Yashahime”; What Is the Reason Why the Yashahimes Fight?
In “The Second Chapter” the reason behind the Yashahimes getting separated from their parents and the meaning behind Sesshōmaru’s actions will gradually be revealed. Director Hishida stated that “Of course, the focus of the story is on the three Yashahimes and it is they who will resolve the issues.” and “I want to make the reason clear as to why the Yashahimes fight.”
““Hanyō no Yashahime” exists because of Takahashi Rumiko-sensei’s original work, “Inuyasha”, and the “Inuyasha” anime. Thus, fundamentally, the aspect of “fighting” must be placed as the main axis. However, the reason Inuyasha, who’s a male, fights, and the reason the Yashahimes, who are female, fight don’t equal each other. How to work that part out while having them fight with emotion is very difficult. I think this is the defining difference between “Inuyasha” and “Hanyō no Yashahime”.”
What is the reason for why the Yashahimes fight?
“To be frank, for Towa and Setsuna, it’s to save their mother, Rin. Regarding Moroha, the reason she fights will become clear to see from here on. The Yashahimes were separated from their parents when they were very young, so they’ve lost the happy time that normally should’ve been had. I bet the girls are doing their best to recover that (time)”
“Hanyō no Yashahime” broadcasts on Saturday evenings and is also an anime geared towards kids. Director Hishida says that he “has to make the reason they fight understandable” for children as well.
“There have been works about girls fighting even before the “Pretty Cure” series but it became mainstream through “Pretty Cure”, so you can probably watch without feeling too out of place. Even so, violence is still a last resort. I think it would be great for children to understand that it’s not just defeat the enemy. Enemies are defeated because there’s proper righteousness and purpose.”
Director Hishida says that a point worth noting is ““The First Chapter” had a lot of mysteries but all of them will be resolved, so don’t worry. Please look forward to it.” You can’t miss the future developments to see if the Yashahimes, who fight “for someone”, will be able to reach a time of happiness.

Betrayal - Day 7 - Maribat March 2021
uh oh it’s an injustice au @maribatmarch-2k21 ao3 link
“Robin…” she regarded him coldly, her grey eyes showing him none of the warmth he once loved. Damian steeled himself for her tone’s impact, stiffening as her blunt expression pierces him. It hurt. “Ladybug.” His voice is strained and slightly hoarse, like he’s choking on her name, like the woman in front of him could make him question everything he was doing with only one look. Maybe she could. Not a day had gone by since he joined the Regime where he didn’t think of her. Even if he was filled with rage for his father, grief for his brother, stress for his team and even slight fear of their leader, nothing was as prevalent in his mind as her. He remembered the last time he saw her. She’d been crying, she’d been afraid, she’d expressed her worry for Paris’ safety and ultimately decided to go back and defend her city from any unrest that the Metropolis situation had caused. Damian had understood. Even though he had a lot of opinions on his father’s stance and Superman’s mission that he wasn’t sure she’d agree with, he ultimately knew her concern was founded and supported her decision to go home. He’d held onto her tight and kissed her fiercely before she left, he remembered never wanting to let her go. To just take her away from all of this chaos and live just the two of them. That had been over a year ago. Since then, Dick had died. By Damian’s own hand, nonetheless. Of course, it was an accident, how was he supposed to anticipate that Dick wouldn’t catch the baton? He always caught it! His family treated it as a murder, however. And maybe it was. Maybe that was the day he became too far gone. When his own brother’s blood stained his hands with sin. Damian hadn’t gone to the funeral. He’d fled, ashamed of himself, and isolated from his family. It wasn’t like his father wanted him around anyway. Marinette came back for the funeral. He’d heard around that she was in town, but he didn’t have the strength to face her. He knew it was cowardice, but he couldn’t bare to see the look on her face. Marinette went to the funeral, Damian didn’t. Marinette was there to grieve with Bruce, Damian wasn’t. Marinette stood by Batman’s side against Superman’s reign, Damian didn’t. Marinette joined the Insurgency, Damian joined the Regime. He hadn’t seen her until now and god, did it hurt. It hurt worse than he could’ve imagined. She looks so disappointed, so betrayed. Like he broke her heart and became everything she feared. He was sure he did. Marinette had always been his guiding light. His reason to stay good, to remember who he was, a hero. And he’d gone ahead and broken every once of trust they had between each other. Shame bubbles up in him like an erupting volcano, spilling over and trickling through him. “I…” Damian began, but was immediately cut off by a raise of Marinette’s hand. “Don’t.” She spat. “Don’t even start.” The chill of her icy gaze prickles him. “Do you know how many times I looked for you? Do you know how many nights I spent crying in your old room? How many times I watched your father break down because he lost Dick, Tim, and now you?” Her voice gradually grew in volume until she was practically shouting. Damian felt a brief flash of anger at the mention of his father.“Don’t pretend that Father wanted me around.” Damian muttered. Ladybug slammed her yoyo on the ground, enraged. “Damnit, Damian!” She yelled. “He loves you! He’s hurting just like you are! You left and never came back! What were we supposed to do?!”All at once the anger left his body and the breath left his lungs. He watched as tears sprung in Ladybug’s eyes and she nearly dropped the string of her yoyo in defeat.“Do you know how much I miss you?” She asked, voice soft and broken and more vulnerable than Damian had ever heard it. In a flash, he crossed the rooftop and embraced her, pulling her tight against him.“I miss you more than I can possibly say.” He mumbled lowly in her ear. “I think about you every day and dream about you every night. I cannot count the number of times I pictured seeing you again and wrecking myself over it.” Ladybug broke down in sobs, falling apart in his arms. He held her up as her knees buckled.“I was afraid to face you. Out of all of the people in my life, I know you are the one I disappointed the most.” His voice cracked more and more as he spoke. Ladybug continued to cry, pounding her fists weakly against his chest.“I hate you.” She murmured. “I hate you, I hate you, I hate you.” Her head nuzzled against his neck. “I hate you…” “I know.” He kissed the top of her head. “I know. But I’ll never stop loving you.” Damian then took her face in his hands and kissed her just as fiercely as that day, the last time he saw her. She kissed him back desperately. Open mouthed and sobbing. She clutched at him like he’d disappear if she let go. Nothing had changed. The war still raged. Dick was still dead. He was still in the Regime and her the Insurgency, but his heart betrayed his place in this fight as he held her, vowing to never let her go again.

The second time you were marched into Hwang Hyunjin’s office, the primary emotion swirling through your mind was not fear or apprehension, but a searing-hot rage. You weren’t dressed in the garb of tattered royalty either- a sleek pencil skirt and blouse adorned your curves, hair pinned in a way befitting of the governor’s daughter. Your teeth were gritted, hands fisted against your sides as you walked the same opulently designed hallways you had focused on not too long ago.
So much for being the future face of the city- it seemed that cavorting with the enemy had now become your only ( rather unfortunate) pastime.
He was dressed exactly the way you remembered 2 nights ago, his suit jacket immaculately pressed and perfectly fitted against the planes of his body. Blonde hair swung gently as he raised his head from work to watch you walk in, his lips once again curling in a frown as his eyes met yours.
The guards who had walked you to the study made their way out of the room, clicking the door shut on their way out. You walked into the study, closer to the table, eyes still narrowed as you matched Hyunjin stare for stare- it was him who looked away, clearing his throat in annoyance.
“Why is it that you insist on barging into places you are not welcome?” He sighed, his annoyed tone only serving to incense you further. It was rare that you were ever this angry, but something about Hwang Hyunjin’s elegant yet brutally infuriating dismissal was all too good at making your blood boil in your veins.
Sliding into the chair opposite his table and crossing your legs, you raised an eyebrow in irreverent challenge, your lips only just concealing the venom you were dying to spit- no, you would sound casual, unassuming instead.
“Are you telling me you have no idea why I’m here, Hwang?”
At that, Hyunjin smiled- a wide, thoughtless grin that would’ve convinced anybody else of his innocence, but not you. It looked like a threatening snarl to you, like he knew exactly why you were here and was, in fact, counting on it-
“Are you telling me I wanted to see you any more than I absolutely have to?” He chuckled and your hands curled into fists against the fabric of your skirt yet again. Oh, this aggravating bastard-
“Are you telling me you had one of your lackeys tail me everywhere for a reason other than that you were curious about me?” You responded, your voice barely, deceptively light, and yes- you finally spotted it. A crack in Hyunjin’s impertinent armour, the same flicker of surprise that had danced across his eyes when you revealed how you got into his stronghold that first time.
“So you caught him after all.”
“Han Jisung, right?” You picked at your nails, looking for all the world like a woman uncaring. “He told me he was tailing me because you didn’t have enough information to actually kill my father.”
Hyunjin’s lip curled in derision, expression darkening at your words.
“And here I was, thinking you were here for the sheer pleasure of antagonizing me.”
“I might look like a rich brat, Hwang, but I think I’ve proven to you that I’m more than just that.”
Hyunjin leaned back, his arms resting on the sides of his chair as he exhaled through his teeth, head cocked to the side as he watched you.
“All you’ve proven to me is that your loyalties are about as solid as your week’s opinions.” He responded evenly, not letting you get a word in edgewise before continuing.
“You sold your father out to us almost too easily. What’s to say you didn’t agree with the way the Faceless handles things and decide to sell us out? Can’t have that now, can we? I value my power in the Faceless much more than I value this...whatever this is with you. I’m sure you understand.”
You swallowed, a chill settling in your veins as he spoke- as much as you were loath to admit it, he did make sense.
“I don’t care what your intentions were, Hwang. I trusted you to handle it yourself, but clearly, you’re missing important information. If you want details, just ask. You do not send people to stalk me.”
“You’re not exactly instilling any sense of confidence or trust in your motives, ma’am.”
“Fucks sake, Hyunjin,” You threw your arms up in exasperation. “I came here that night ready to hand my dad over to you on a silver fucking platter. It was the most difficult decision I’ve ever had to take but this city won’t survive a year without the Purge and the Faceless. I’m ready to do whatever it takes to make sure my father’s plans fall through. No matter what.” You stressed, looking the blonde man in the eye with your last words.
A stagnant silence passed between the both of you before Hyunjin stood up and you straightened up in your chair, following his movements. He looked down at you, the sunlight from the windows behind him staining his hair burnished gold.
“I think I’d like to set those words in stone, just to be on the safer side.”
Ten minutes later, you were standing behind Hyunjin, watching as he ushered another young man into the study- one with an aura of intimidation and irreverence identical to Hyunjin’s. It permeated through the whole room almost effortlessly, despite his short stature and unassuming dark hair.
He grinned at Hyunjin, eyes crinkling as he shook hands with the blond man before he turned to you- it was like the temperature in the room had gone down a couple of degrees despite the late afternoon heat. There was something intensely icy about the way he stared you down like he was scanning your very existence with just his gaze.
“This is Chris. He’s the...ah, the counsellor. Lawyer, advisor, strategist-”
“Also the previous leader.”
And it all clicked. This Chris character had clearly trained Hyunjin to be his reflection in all ways possible - identical aura, manner of speaking, standing, down to the icy, insolent scrutiny. You held his gaze, nodding in acknowledgement. Steeling your nerves, you willed yourself to think, say something, anything in response-
“Why would you give up your power if you’re clearly still capable of leading?”
Chris’ eyebrows raised, the shadow of a smirk twisting his lips as he turned away from you, leading the way to the table.
“Who said I gave up any power, princess?”
Maybe it was the dark threat the words were laced with, or maybe the words themselves, but something about Chris made your hackles rise, body unconsciously tensing for a fight. It was a struggle to keep your expression neutral as it always was, to keep your body language closed off to a person who seemingly thrived off unconscious conversation cues.
Chris was dangerous. Maybe even more so than Hyunjin.
As quickly as the moment came, it was gone- Chris cleared his throat, smoothing out his already immaculate suit.
“Hyunjin told me you had details that would help the Governor’s assassination?”
Thoughts raced and eddied in your mind as you looked between Hyunjin and Chris, weighing your options. If this was Hyunjin’s mentor, you were sure he would scent the slightest apprehension from miles away- no point in hesitation now, was there?
“More details than you’ll know what to do with.”
And the identically wicked smiles that graced both men’s faces was a sight to see, a savage look of celebration and sinful glory. Chris pulled a phone out of his pocket, possibly to record your words-
“You have no idea what we can do with details, princess.”

[21st March 2021]
Things between us were not always complicated. Our friendship was always exceptional even when friends fought and sought different ways after freshman year at the local Community College, Jimin and I were glued to each other’s side and maybe that’s why no one was surprised as we announced our plans to get married after we graduated.
The new world that greeted us after we finished high school only seemed meaningful because I had Jimin by my side. At that time I had no idea I’ll fall for him this hard, he literally became the extension of myself, my arms and limbs and the lungs that kept me alive. He was my first serious boyfriend even though I dated a few guys here and there before him but none of those relationships seemed to work out either because of me or the guy. Jimin is someone who could easily have his ways with words so when he decided to show interest in me as in more than friends, it was inevitable that I would give in. He was a wonderful lover in the beginning. Passionate and loving, we had many movie nights that ended up with his hands down my pants as his thick fingers rubbed my clit. He bought me flowers and comforted me when I had a bad day.
His cunning smile could get him out of a lot of trouble. Maybe that’s why I never saw the other side of him that sometimes peeked through his carefully crafted mask. I decided to ignore all the red flags until I found myself in a loveless marriage with a man that I couldn’t recognise anymore. Once I realised what had happened it was already too late.
 [12nd November 2018]
Jimin hated the fact that I was a heavy sleeper. He even threatened me once that he’ll sleep in the guest room if he had to wake up one more time to my alarm relentlessly ringing while I showed no signs of waking up any time soon.
My workspace was on the other side of town. The rent was cheap so it was worth the extra miles and the full tank of gas in my car but because of it I had to wake up extra early so I could finish showering then I would go to the kitchen to make lunch for Jimin to take with him to work and still have enough time to get ready with a freshly brewed coffee in one hand and toast in the other. Even after our first year in marriage passed by like a flash, Jimin continued to be his affectionate self, he showered me with kisses and felt needy for my touch.
It was one of our best years together. Jimin started to get more involved with his father’s company and my workshop began to gain more popularity to my greatest surprise. While I was working on an old clock that was brought into my shop by an old married couple a few hours ago my focus kept wandering back to this morning. Smiling under my nose as I thought back to why I was late to open up my little workshop this particular morning.
Jimin likes to be spontaneous he always calls me a bore when I hesitate to try out new things but this time he did not have to do much convincing before I agreed. It was weirdly satisfying to wake up to Jimin’s head buried between the juncture of my thighs, shaking and aroused even though I couldn’t feel or hear him do all those sinful things to me while I was asleep. I didn’t feel him take off my panties or lift the covers to expose my bare centre to his hungry eyes and when our gazes met he proudly told me how well I took his fingers even while I was unconscious.
Experimenting was not something I was willing to do before Jimin showed me the appeal of trying out new things. With him by my side, I felt invincible like I could conquer the world if he stays next to me holding my hand tight.
We outlived all expectations. They said high school sweethearts don’t last, well, we did.  Even though both of our parents were against the idea of us marrying each other so young we ended up doing just that. Jimin proposed after we got our diploma and I said yes. We lived together as roommates throughout all those years we spent together studying and we moved in together after both of us got our first jobs as postgrads.
I was happy it felt like we were at the top of the world but if I had known that after that year everything will go downhill I would have tried to be happier.
 [24th December 2019]
Do you know what are the telltales of cheaters? Well, it starts with subtle changes in his behaviour, you begin to see him less he makes up excuses of having too much work to do or stress so that he could avoid your advances.
He tries to make it up to you with expensive gifts but they mean nothing after the tenth impersonal present because all you would ever want is his attention and love instead of those pathetic attempts of showing their devotion with empty words. The last and most important one on the list is the new anonymous contact on his phone that shows several phone calls and text messages back and forth for hours.
Jimin did all of those.
He stopped experimenting with me. He would fuck me from behind even when I told him I want to see his face. No foreplay, no more cute nose kisses and breathless laughs between the acts of lust and playful wandering fingers.
He no longer cared if I finished first or not at all because after he was done it meant it was over. Jimin took a shower and crawled into bed facing away from me now that this task was taken care of. After the fifth time that he left me hanging, I gathered all the courage that’s left in me to stop his hands from dipping under my pants. I felt disgusted and used he made me think I’m a mere fucktoy that he can discard once it lost its appeal.
I had one of the worst days at work. The clock I was working on was missing a crucial part that I could only import from abroad and the man who wanted it fixed told me to don’t bother because he can’t afford such an expensive repair. It was not something that I could control, the clock was antique for fucks sake. He left without paying for my services even though I told him it was not the only part that I needed to change.
On my way home, a drunk man almost crashed into me with his Sedan and it left me a little shaken up, it was justified to feel the way I was and when Jimin tried to make a move on me by groping my breasts without asking permission first I just snapped.
Not one to back up he snapped right back and it led to one of our ugliest fights. I couldn’t believe the words he so carelessly let out from between those poisonous lips. We had quarrels before every couple has that, it’s normal to disagree to some extents but he went too far this time around. It’s not just the words that left me a crying mess on our bedroom floor with snot stuffing my nostrils, sniffing and rubbing the tears from my swollen eyes. I broke down once I heard the front door shut with a force that made the windows shake. It was past midnight when I heard shuffling and muffled voices, I knew Jimin was back so I cracked the door open just enough to peek into the dark living room.
It was not just Jimin, the smell of alcohol penetrated my nostrils as I watched my husband with disgust, making out with a girl in our shared apartment. I couldn’t believe the audacity he had to bring this chick back where we’re supposed to live together, it was just too much. Hearing him ram into her from the guest bedroom while I cried in our shared bedroom with just one wall separating us. I bet he didn’t even hear the front door closing while I dialled my friend’s number to pick me up. He couldn’t have heard that over that girl’s loud moaning.
I don’t remember when I finally stopped crying in my friend’s arms. I couldn’t bring myself to tell her what happened. It was enough humiliation to witness my once loving husband come home with a quick fuck after a fight, it doesn’t matter that he was reeking of expensive shots of alcohol. It didn’t make his actions any less painful.
My heart broke into a million more pieces when I saw him calling me the next day. I didn’t have the guts to pick up, all I could see was him kissing another girl. I bet he was so drunk that he couldn’t remember anything, I wonder if he yelled at the girl in the morning to get the fuck out once he realised it’s not me who lays beside him. Wishful thinking on my part, he probably fucked her in the morning too just before he called me.
Somi finds my body doubled over her toilet throwing up water since it’s been a while I last ate. She helps me through it and gently gathers my hair into a loose ponytail so I won’t get any in my hair as beads of sweat and tears are rolling down my face. My body works on autopilot going through the cleaning motions as I take a burning hot shower and then lay down to get some rest. My body aches and the fatigue is evident in every lazy flutter of my lashes.
I hear his voice, pleading to my friend to let him see me. Now it’s dark outside, it must be hours that I slept through. Somi denies that I’m here and I’m thankful for her quick understanding, the last thing I want right now is to face him. Even though I never told her what happened between us she could sense that it’s more than just a little lovers quarrel.
Our second anniversary would have been next month but instead of roses and kisses next to a dimly lit dinner table, there’s only a big envelope with papers. Divorce papers. The first time he sees me after a month of silence is to have his signature that would end this relationship for good. Today should have been a nice memory filled with laughter and passionate lovemaking. Maybe we were never meant to find each other. Better off as friends, these simple yet powerful words might have saved our future back then if one of us were brave enough to say it.
Jimin looks worn out, it’s obvious he rushed here from his office once you called, he wears his formal attire. He didn’t think you would show up even though it’s supposed to be the day that you should celebrate another year of marriage.
The papers lay heavy on his side of the table as he skims through the content he sees that you already signed your part. He picks up the pen that I prepared in advance, his hands are shaking almost crushing the poor stationery in half with the strength that he holds it.
”I don’t want to d-divorce.” It’s the first sentence that he says to me. His lips are quivering and fat tears are rolling down his cheeks by the time he dares to look into my eyes. I’m however are past the point of shedding crocodile tears. I cried over him enough times to make my face feel numb and puffy with the amount of sadness that poured out of my body in pathetic waves. I can’t keep eye contact for long as his face keeps reminding me of that night I tried so hard to erase from my memory this past month. A part of me is furious seeing him cry, he was the one who sealed out fate. He has no right to feel sad or plead with me to give him another chance.
”If you ever loved me, you will sign it. I give you a week to do the right thing.” With those last words, our anniversary ended.
 [13rd October 2020]
”It’s been a whole year after your divorce, don’t you think it’s time to get yourself out there again?” So this is why she wanted to see me I realise.
I know Somi means well, but I dread those words coming out of her mouth every once in a while. If I think about it she was always good at choosing the worst timing to bring the subject up. She’s not aware that this particular day holds a lot of those sour memories that I once cherished. This day was once one of the most important days to me, to us.
Today is Jimin’s Birthday, it’s the first time since we became friends and then later lovers that we don’t spend this day together anymore. I don’t know how to feel about it yet. I used this new year to heal from my wounds that the love of my life left behind. Getting used to living alone after living with someone for so long was tough. I caught myself making more food than I needed or when I was shopping I got those yoghurts that Jimin loves so much even though I’ve always hated the taste of those. I end up throwing them out at home. I blocked his number and any kind of social media that I could think of from the top of my head. The silence between us was crushing at first, I thought that there are no more tears left to shed but when I got our divorce papers from my attorney I couldn’t stop the new waves of tears from escaping.
Yet all my efforts seem to be in vain as my mind keeps going back to him. I catch myself wondering how he’s doing. If he feels as shitty as me even after a full year apart. If he ever wished things would have been different between us. I just wanted to know if he ever regretted destroying our marriage because of another girl. I don’t know if they are together or not or if he dates her now that I’m out of the picture but it’s better left this way. I’m already heartbroken, seeing him again would just open up my barely healed wounds.
”Can we not talk about this today? I’m feeling kinda low right now.” I sigh, shaking my head habitually if only it would make me stop thinking about him. There’s an old fashioned watch with a silver-coated socket in front of me, it’s pretty. A middle-aged woman brought it to me today telling me that it was a gift from his grandfather but it was never in working condition. She went to several locksmiths over the years but no one could fix it so she asked at last that I would be willing to pay for it. I found it interesting so I agreed to buy it from her. I started working on the old watch and at the beginning, it didn’t want to tick even when I made the necessary changes. I just couldn’t figure out what was wrong with it when seemingly it didn’t have anything that needed to be fixed.
On my way home after a rough day at work, I bought some soju from the corner convenience store so I could at least get drunk enough to sleep through the whole night. The pills my therapist prescribed for me doesn’t seem to work at all nowadays.
I placed the watch down onto my bedside table and pulled the comforter over my drunk head. I heard the loud ticking of a clock but I don’t remember having one on the wall. I thought that my drunk mind probably was still hung up on the fact that I couldn’t even fix a simple watch so I shrugged the noises off and closed my eyes until red dots filled my vision.
I just need some sleep.
 [13rd November 2018]
”Wake up, baby. You’ll be late again.” There’s a kiss on my shoulder then on my temple as warm hands turn me around in bed. It feels oddly familiar to have two hands around my waist that pulls me into a hard chest, blond fluffy hair fills my vision once my eyelashes flutter open.
I’m back in our shared bedroom at his lavish apartment that’s a lot better than the shitty apartment that I was able to afford after our messy divorce. Divorce? Wait. A. Fucking. Minute. What is Jimin doing here holding me? It’s been too long that I saw him but he looks oddly young here, the Jimin I last saw started to get wrinkles and lost a bit of weight but this man reminds me of the boy I fell in love with. I remember getting drunk last night but I’m sure even at the state I was in I couldn’t get here on my own and I don’t remember getting a taxi or even getting up from my bed last night. I frantically search for my phone that I conveniently find on the nightstand, speechless as I watch Jimin stretch like we just didn’t share a bed together after one year of not seeing each other. He shouldn’t look so relaxed while I panic internally.
Then I see the date as my phone screen activates with my touch. I don’t use this phone anymore, I got another one after I blocked Jimin’s number because this device was a birthday present from him that kept reminding me of, well, him so I decided to change it even though I couldn’t afford a similar model like this with my single salary. I remember this day like it only happened yesterday it was around the time that he got a good position at his father’s company and we were both invited to a found raiser event. I bought this beautiful red dress that he eagerly ripped off of me once we were back at home slightly buzzed on the champagne.
It doesn’t make sense though. The only explanation that I can come up with is that I might be still drunk and I’m hallucinating of some sort after all it was just yesterday that Jimin’s birthday made me think about us again.
I lock myself into the bathroom. Sighing in relief once I am able to get away from Jimin’s inquiring eyes. He looked so confused when I refused to kiss him on the lips. I always kissed him goodbye before I went to work when things were still good between us. I just don’t know what to make of things right now, I’m so confused. It doesn’t feel like a dream at all and Jimin acts like he’s my husband rather than my ex-husband who cheated on me.
I splash some water on my face to calm down my nerves and I gasp when I look at my reflection in the mirror. My hair, it’s long. I got rid of those long locks after our divorce was done, Jimin liked my hair like this, long and curly, so I decided to cut it short.
”Baby, did you bring your work home? I don’t remember seeing this old thing on our nightstand when we went to sleep.” Eyes widening I rip open the bathroom door startling Jimin as I grab the old watch out of his hands. The digits are frozen one at eight and the other at one. 18. 2018? Jimin catches my hand mid-air as I try to slap myself so I could make sure this is not a dream.
”Baby say something. You’re scaring me. Are you alright?” Jimin holds my hand gently thumbs rubbing my skin as his eyes express his worry. It’s been a while since he was so affectionate. He stopped caring for me after he found that girl. I let him pull me into a hug, I missed this. I missed him but this moment doesn’t change the fact that the Jimin I loved so much cheated on me.
I left to go to work earlier than I used to around this time and I know Jimin noticed. I told him to get some takeout for lunch too.
I worked on the clocks hoping that it will distract me but it just made me think of what happened this morning more. Doing it the second time around made the process easier, I knew what was wrong with the clocks before I get them into pieces. I even remembered the young couple who brought an expensive watch to get it more fitted to his arms and he accidentally left his bracelet on my working bench after trying on the watch to see it fits after the adjustments.
Jimin sulked a little after I denied his kisses but he didn’t force me and for that I was thankful. He nagged me even when we were surrounded by his father’s workers at the found raising event to tell him what made me ’mad’ at him because he wants to apologize properly if he did something wrong. I didn’t say anything, I couldn’t just tell him he should apologize for something he will do in the future, it will just make me the weird one.
I was nervous to go home after the event because I remember how this night was supposed to end. My hand tightens around his arm when I see her approach us. I feel my stomach sink when she smiles at the both of us, introducing herself as Jimin’s coworker. I didn’t remember meeting her here but at that time I had no idea she’ll be the one who my husband cheats on me with. It was dark that day but I remember her blonde hair and her voice. I remember her moaning Jimin’s name.
”Y/N?” I snap my head towards the sound of his voice. He looks concerned it’s not the first time tonight that he had to repeat what he said. I feel sick, my body subconsciously leans on him to get a grip of reality.
I realised this is when it began. Her smile is anything but genuine as she fakes her concern, I can see the jealousy in her dark orbs as she watches my hand around my husband’s arm. She wanted him for herself all this time. She just doesn’t know yet that she succeeded a year after. A tear slid down my cheeks but I aggressively got rid of it before it could reach my chin. Jimin caged me between his strong arms drawing soothing circles onto my back but it doesn’t affect my body positively how it used to I cried harder inside his arms.
Jimin excused us and she relented even though it was clear as day that she wanted to send me daggers through her stare rather than her wishes for me to get better. The car ride was silent, he didn’t let go of my hand and I let him. I let this version of Jimin comfort me because he didn’t do anything wrong, not yet. He had no idea that this was our last happy years spent together before everything went downhill after that.
He held me in his arms.
 [5th March 2019]
After my revisit of 2018, I realised a few things. Firstly, I can travel between time with that old watch that only seem to works for a short period of time until it stops at the year I want to visit. The second thing I learnt is that Jimin can be manipulated with the right words. I decided after that night I saw her face raging with malice and jealousy that I’ll find out what really had happened between them. I know Jimin loved me even though I had doubts about it after our divorce. I knew him well we spend so much time together as friends even before we started dating. However, I never thought he would go so low as to cheat on his wife.
He was always gentle and understanding with me. Accepting the fact that I didn’t want to have children. He loved them but accepted me for who I was and never questioned why I felt this way. He was a good man, a good husband.
So I decided to watch him from afar and when she thought no one was looking, she showed her teeth like a venomous snake planting ideas into Jimin’s head talking shit about me, twisting my actions and words; going as far as telling him she thinks I am cheating on him! I know those pictures were fake as I did no such thing. I was so in love with him I would never betray him like that.
Then I remembered his odd change in behaviour, how he treated our once lovemaking sessions as fucking. How he couldn’t look into my eyes while he buried his dick inside my cunt made sense in a way now.
He thought I was the one who played him. He let himself believe that I was late from our dinners because I was fucking someone behind his back and when I told him I’m not in the mood to have sex. He got even angrier he thought that if I lied to his face he will show me what pain feels like by fucking that snake in our guest bedroom. My head was swimming overwhelmed with this information.
The truth hurt like hell.
I thought I will feel somewhat better once I discovered the truth but I feel even shitter. Jimin believed her, he didn’t bother to ask me if I was indeed cheating on him but can I really blame him? I didn’t ask either when I suspected it. We let our insecurities and that jealous bitch stand in between our marriage making it crumble down to pieces. I was angry, raging as my hand shook with it and it led me back to that day it happened. It felt too late to fix things so I closed my eyes and turned the clock. Leaving everything behind. Once and for all.
There’s nothing left for me to change in our past, I can’t fix our past mistakes but maybe I could change things in the future. Starting with exposing that snake. I wasn’t even surprised to see her as the head of the newly developed department.
[11st April 2021]
Jimin took over the firm after his father fell ill as I got to know from her assistant. I could tell she was surprised to see my face but even more surprised to realise it’s not Jimin’s whereabouts that I want to know but rather hers.
I shouldn’t be this smug about the fact that he cut all ties with her after our divorce. Deep down he was still a good man who couldn’t believe the fact that he fucked someone else while his wife cried next door with just one thin wall separating them.
I pictured this moment in my head a lot after I came back from the past. I’m way past the hurt and anger that settled in my bones for a full year and even before that. Instead, I felt eerily calm for someone who’s here to put up a show for the employees. I don’t even care if they think I’m crazy because once I locate her in her cubicles and dig my hair into her scalp pulling her hair hard with my iron grip all I could feel is utter satisfaction.
”I hope you enjoyed your good fuck. Was it satisfying to make my husband a cheater? I bet it was. Did you think I will never find out that you fed him lies and spread rumours about me sleeping around with men?”
Even the security watched as I pulled her by the hair the commotion around us almost drowned out the crying noises she made because of the pain. I didn’t pull that hard though, I hate her with every fibre of my being but I’m not a malicious person like her. She would deserve worse than what I’m doing but I never want to go down to her level ever again so I let her go.
”How did you found out?” She looked pale as a ghost. I know she was scared she had every right to be because I’m sure I have that crazy look in my eyes.
”It doesn’t matter. What does matter, however, is that now I know what you did to him. All for what? Just to have him all to yourself? Look how that turned out for you.” The people around us fell silent that’s how I knew Jimin is here. So I took a step closer to her and smiled.
”I never cheated on him but you know this well. This is not even why I feel so angry. The reason why I want to rip your hair out right this instant is not because you spread lies and badmouthed me but because you made him a cheater.”
It’s his first time seeing me after our divorce but I’ve been seeing him these past weeks thanks to the old watch. This time around I was able to look into his eyes and see that boy I fell in love with. We went through so much together, maybe.
Maybe we can overcome this too.

Ma Kyal Sin loved taekwondo, spicy food and a good red lipstick. She adopted the English name Angel, and her father hugged her goodbye when she went out on the streets of Mandalay, in central Myanmar, to join the crowds peacefully protesting the recent seizure of power by the military.
The black T-shirt that Ms. Kyal Sin wore to the protest on Wednesday carried a simple message: “Everything will be OK.”
In the afternoon, Ms. Kyal Sin, 18, was shot in the head by the security forces, who killed at least 30 people nationwide in the single bloodiest day since the Feb. 1 coup, according to the United Nations.
“She is a hero for our country,” said Ma Cho Nwe Oo, one of Ms. Kyal Sin’s close friends, who has also taken part in the daily rallies that have electrified hundreds of cities across Myanmar. “By participating in the revolution, our generation of young women shows that we are no less brave than men.”
Despite the risks, women have stood at the forefront of Myanmar’s protest movement, sending a powerful rebuke to the generals who ousted a female civilian leader and reimposed a patriarchal order that has suppressed women for half a century.
By the hundreds of thousands, the women have gathered for daily marches, representing striking unions of teachers, garment workers and medical workers — all sectors dominated by women. The youngest are often on the front lines, where the security forces appear to have singled them out. Two young women were shot in the head on Wednesday and another near the heart, three bullets ending their lives.
Earlier this week, military television networks announced that the security forces were instructed not to use live ammunition, and that in self-defense they would only shoot at the lower body.
“We might lose some heroes in this revolution,” said Ma Sandar, an assistant general secretary of the Confederation of Trade Unions Myanmar, who has been taking part in the protests. “Our women’s blood is red.”
The violence on Wednesday, which brought the death toll since the coup to at least 54, reflected the brutality of a military accustomed to killing its most innocent people. At least three children have been gunned down over the past month, and the first death of the military’s post-coup crackdown was a 20-year-old woman shot in the head on Feb. 9.
The killings have appalled and outraged rights advocates around the world.
“Myanmar’s military must stop murdering and jailing protesters,” Michelle Bachelet, the top human rights official at the United Nations, said Thursday. “It is utterly abhorrent that security forces are firing live ammunition against peaceful protesters across the country.”
In the weeks since the protests began, groups of female medical volunteers have patrolled the streets, tending to the wounded and dying. Women have added spine to a civil disobedience movement that is crippling the functioning of the state. And they have flouted gender stereotypes in a country where tradition holds that garments covering the lower half of the bodies of the two sexes should not be washed together, lest the female spirit act as a contaminant.
With defiant creativity, people have strung up clotheslines of women’s sarongs, called htamein, to protect protest zones, knowing that some men are loath to walk under them. Others have affixed images of Senior Gen. Min Aung Hlaing, the army chief who orchestrated the coup, to the hanging htamein, an affront to his virility.
“Young women are now leading the protests because we have a maternal nature and we can’t let the next generation be destroyed,” said Dr. Yin Yin Hnoung, a 28-year-old medical doctor who has dodged bullets in Mandalay. “We don’t care about our lives. We care about our future generations.”
While the military’s inhumanity extends to many of the country’s roughly 55 million people, women have the most to lose from the generals’ resumption of full authority, after five years of sharing power with a civilian government led by Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. The Tatmadaw, as the military is known, is deeply conservative, opining in official communications about the importance of modest dress for proper ladies.
There are no women in the Tatmadaw’s senior ranks, and its soldiers have systematically committed gang rape against women from ethnic minorities, according to investigations by the United Nations. In the generals’ worldview, women are often considered weak and impure. Traditional religious hierarchies in this predominantly Buddhist nation also place women at the feet of men.
The prejudices of the military and the monastery are not necessarily shared by Myanmar’s broader society. Women are educated and integral to the economy, particularly in business, manufacturing and the civil service. Increasingly, women have found their political voice. In elections last November, about 20 percent of candidates for the National League for Democracy, Ms. Aung San Suu Kyi’s party, were women.
The party won in a landslide, trouncing the military-linked and far more male-dominated Union Solidarity and Development Party. The Tatmadaw has dismissed the results as fraudulent.
As the military began devolving some power over the past decade, Myanmar experienced one of the most profound and rapid societal changes in the world. A country that had been cut off from the world by the generals, who first seized power in a 1962 coup, went on Facebook and discovered memes, emojis and global conversations about gender politics.
“Even though these are dark days and my heart breaks with all these images of bloodshed, I’m more optimistic because I see women on the street,” said Dr. Miemie Winn Byrd, a Burmese-American who served as a lieutenant colonel in the United States Army and is now a professor at the Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies in Honolulu. “In this contest, I will put money on the women. They are unarmed, but they are the true warriors.”
That passion has ignited across the country, despite Tatmadaw crackdowns in past decades that have killed hundreds of people.
“Women took the frontier position in the fight against dictatorship because we believe it is our cause,” said Ma Ei Thinzar Maung, a 27-year-old politician and former political prisoner who, along with another woman the same age, led the first anti-coup demonstration in Yangon five days after the putsch.

“That was the time I committed myself to working toward abolishing the military junta,” she said. “Minorities know what it feels like, where discrimination leads. And as a woman, we are still considered as a second sex.”
“That must be one of the reasons why women activists seem more committed to rights issues,” she added.
While the National League for Democracy is led by Ms. Aung San Suu Kyi, its top ranks are dominated by men. And like the Tatmadaw, the party’s highest echelons have tended to be reserved for members of the country’s ethnic Bamar majority.
On the streets of Myanmar, even as the security forces continue to fire at unarmed protesters, the makeup of the movement has been far more diverse. There are Muslim students, Catholic nuns, Buddhist monks, drag queens and a legion of young women.
“Gen Z are a fearless generation,” said Honey Aung, whose younger sister, Kyawt Nandar Aung, was killed by a bullet to the head on Wednesday in the city of Monywa. “My sister joined the protests every day. She hated dictatorship.”
In a speech that ran in a state propaganda publication earlier this week, General Min Aung Hlaing, the army chief, sniffed at the impropriety of the protesters, with their “indecent clothes contrary to Myanmar culture.” His definition is commonly considered to include women wearing trousers.
Moments before she was shot dead, Ms. Kyal Sin, dressed in sneakers and torn jeans, rallied her fellow peaceful protesters.
As they staggered from the tear gas fired by security forces on Wednesday, Ms. Kyal Sin dispensed water to cleanse their eyes. “We are not going to run,” she yelled, in a video recorded by another protester. “Our people’s blood should not reach the ground.”
“She is the bravest girl I have ever seen in my life,” said Ko Lu Maw, who photographed some of the final images of Ms. Kyal Sin, in an alert, proud pose amid a crowd of prostrate protesters.
Under her T-shirt, Ms. Kyal Sin wore a star-shaped pendant because her name means “pure star” in Burmese.
“She would say, ‘if you see a star, remember, that’s me,’” said Ms. Cho Nwe Oo, her friend. “I will always remember her proudly.”

How do you think things would change for edward and carlisle if carlisle had never changed esme? do you think carlisle ever would have changed anyone else? would edward have still left for his "rebellion"? would it have changed the roles that they play?
They eventually become that friendly but reclusive gay couple in your neighborhood that you don’t know very much about but who seem very happy.
Here’s why. (This got long. I have thoughts.)
Carlisle and Edward are two of the most heavily queer-coded characters in the entire saga. I respect a good Jasper/Edward or Jacob/Edward, but I don’t see those coming from the way the characters talk about each other in canon. Those are slash ships which exist because people want to see that ship. They’re fun, but it’s never felt as “oh yeah of course, these two” like C & Ed.
They already have what seems to be a very intimate relationship in canon. It isn’t his brothers Edward turns to first to ask about having sex; it’s Carlisle, who is ostensibly in the role of his father. Edward’s brain in Midnight Sun is about 50% Bella, 50% Carlisle, 50% the sky is falling. (I realize that’s more than 100% which seems about on par for Edward’s brain.)
He uses Carlisle’s face to recenter himself when he encounters Bella in MS. He talks about how Carlisle had so many complicated emotions toward him, and then says that for himself, “Love [for Carlisle] came easily.”
Meanwhile, Edward is pretty oblivious to Bella as a woman beyond her scent, aside from wishing she’d wear the green sweater more to keep him from feeling too horny. He has never been interested in Tanya, even though she’s repeatedly been interested in him. He notices that Siobhan is curvy, but doesn’t apply this same gaze to Bella.
Carlisle, for his part, is somehow totally unaware that Esme, who probably made very clear she thought he was crushworthy in 1911, has somehow also fallen for him. Edward has to “be on hand to caution Carlisle” that she’s going to be in love with him after her change. And while I don’t personally hold the headcanon that Aro and Carlisle were ever sexually involved (though I enjoy that ship), it certainly seems likely that Carlisle had a certain amount of intimacy with him based on the way Aro greets Edward and then Carlisle in the saga.
And then there’s the simple fact that where Carlisle has watched other vampires turn mates, or turn allies, he picks this seventeen-year-old boy without having any sense that he might be gifted. He just think he’s beautiful and kind and full of youth. Ohhhhh kaaaay... They are both heavily, heavily implied to be at least bi, if not gay. Men are on the table for them both. Mind you, I don’t think SM meant to put that on the page. But that’s what’s there.
So Carlisle changes Edward. He, for whatever reason, doesn’t change Esme. Maybe he leaves her in the morgue. Maybe they never go to Ashland. He’s having the time of his life finally being known by someone, and not only known, but known in this deeply invasive, intimate way. They become as close as they are in canon.
Edward, in my reading, rebelled in part because he was supplanted by Esme. He was heartbroken. Maybe he didn’t realize he was in love with Carlisle, because in that time period, and with their backgrounds, that would’ve been impossible to admit to himself. But he reacted like a teenager who suddenly has to share his parent with whom he’s very close. No Esme, no sharing, no rebellion.
This probably then means they don’t ever end up in Rochester--maybe they stay in Ashland longer, who knows. Realistically, as soon as you start to remove a piece of the story, the dominoes fall very differently, although it’s hard to say because it never seems like SM had a clear idea of why any given character did a given a thing, just that they did. The only time we ever even get a whiff of something like this is that Maria came to visit when they were in Calgary and they had to move right after she did. So we don’t know why they moved to Rochester, which makes it hard to say if they still do in this AU.
Let’s say they do end up in Rochester, and they’re still doing the friend/father/son/hell no we’re not gay thing. Carlisle finds a woman in the street who has been brutally gangraped and left for dead.
He does not have a wife whose own history of sexual assault he is thinking of.
He does not have a son whose unhappiness he is trying to assuage.
Edward has never rebelled; Carlisle doesn’t need to do something to keep him around. He has no model of a female companion healing his own heart, so he has no reason to feel even a twinge that such a thing might be true for Edward.
So he spirits Rosalie to the hospital and does his level best to treat her. She dies despite his efforts. It’s very sad; another instance where Carlisle feels inadequate against the world. He turns to Edward for comfort, just like always, and gets over it within a few days. Edward and Carlisle go on living their lives together. They are deeply affectionate, deeply concerned with one another, and very, very close.
One day, they’re having a conversation about something, or nothing, doesn’t matter, and noses get too close, and bam. Suddenly they’re both thinking, My god, I’m kissing my best friend and this feels so much better than I ever would have imagined.
And that’s it. It’s not easy; they have a lot of self-loathing to get over and their relationship is rocky for years. Sex is fraught with feelings of shame and sinfulness, mostly on Carlisle's part. But slowly they do come to accept themselves and each other. The remaining decades are filled with them trying to slot themselves into society. Being vampires already means they have to hide a lot; compared to that, hiding homosexuality is downright simple. Stonewall happens; they watch the fallout at a distance, afraid to become too involved for fear of outing a lot more than their sexuality (or at least they convince themselves that’s the reason; a lot of it is also internalized homophobia). Edward probably develops the self-control to practice medicine also, or otherwise finds something to occupy himself while Carlisle is working. He doesn’t present himself as a high school student because the last thing they need is Carlisle being accused of statutory rape on top of sodomy, so he’s billed as Carlisle’s equal.
By 2021, they’re experiencing a very pleasant whiplash about how different their lives have become in the last 30 years. They get married in an Episcopal church in the 2010s. Edward still isn’t very religious, but it is very meaningful to Carlisle. They’re out at work. They don’t march in pride parades, but they do allow themselves to be seen being a little affectionate in public places. It feels good. But they’re still vampires, and they still have a lot to hide. So they keep to themselves and keep their heads down.
And every now and then, their neighbors get a glimpse of these two beautiful young men walking arm in arm at twilight. And the neighbors’ concerned thought as they watch them isn’t "I wonder if they're vampires" or "I wonder if they're gay" but "I wonder why they don't own a dog."
