Seriously, though, mares (as in the monsters, not the horses) are a seriously underrated part of the pantheon of horror monsters. I feel like we easily could have had a classic 19th century gothic horror novel that brought them into vogue like vampires. Honestly, if I were the type to write straight-up horror, I'd write one, but I don't know that I could do it justice.

Just imagine it, though. There's been a rash of nocturnal attacks around town. People are having strange dreams, and are afraid to go to sleep. Some of the protagonist's best friends have complained of a ghastly hag climbing onto their chests to gnaw on their souls by night. Slowly, as the protagonist journals her strange dreams, it becomes more and more apparent that she's the creature tormenting people by night, and she just straight up doesn't realize it.

Would it be super-gay? Indeterminate, but ideally. Perhaps a close female friend of the protagonist whose spinster status/late husband's mysterious death had people looking askance at her until she became a victim of the creature, herself.

A mi manera hago y deshago, corto por lo sano y recorto lo que sobra. Lo siento, pero no me alimento de sobras. A mi manera quiero mucho pero a poca gente. Y me abro en canal y me convierto en Venecia. Pero no desgasto te quieros ni promesas, ya no. A mi manera me libro de los necios y de las que se creen princesas. A mi manera reescribo el cuento y a medida que crezco tengo algo claro, solo pido lo que merezco.

A mi manera siento tanto que acabo llorando un mar entero. Y ni una lágrima para luego. Si hay que explotar, se explota. Como rezan por ahí: no soy frágil como una flor, soy frágil como una bomba. Y me apunto a un bombardeo y a mi manera rezo oraciones inventadas y enciendo velas para navegar por mares en calma. A mi manera tiendo al infinito y finiquito historias que no van a ninguna parte. En este cine no se proyectan segundas partes.

A mi manera vuelo y hago volar. No regalo los oídos pero me gusta regalar alas. Y soy muy mala con los nombres, pero muy buena con las caras. Y a mi manera me lío la manta a la cabeza y sigo aunque no vea. Y no veas qué hostias y no veas qué líos. Y a mi manera me levanto como un gato mareado que tiene fuerzas y vidas para seguir maullando. Ya ves, a mi manera pinto días de mierda con letras de colores.

Grito síes con la mirada, construyo castillos, camuflo mis dolores, derrumbo penas, levanto la cabeza y susurro al viento: A MI MANERA…

A mi manera digo adiós y ni te enteras.

A mi manera digo la verdad y truena.
