A Buyer's Guide to Avoiding Mistakes When Buying Boats for Sale in Australia
Buying a boat can be an exciting experience, but it's important to avoid making common mistakes that can lead to disappointment, frustration, and financial loss. With the numerous boats for sale in Australia, you must have a well-informed decision before making your purchase. In this blog post, we'll discuss the common mistakes people make when buying boats for sale in Australia and how to avoid them.
Tumblr media
Failing to do proper research
One of the biggest mistakes people make when buying a boat is failing to do proper research. Many buyers fall in love with a particular type of boat without considering the conditions they plan to use it in, which can lead to disappointment when the boat does not meet their needs. It's important to research the different types of boats available, their features and specifications, and the conditions they are best suited for.
Buying without a proper inspection
Before making a purchase, it's important to have a thorough inspection of the boat done by a qualified marine surveyor. This can uncover any hidden defects or problems that may not be apparent during a visual inspection. A proper inspection can save you a lot of money in the long run by helping you avoid buying a boat with hidden issues. So, always make sure to inspect the boat properly.
Not considering ongoing costs
Owning a boat can be expensive, and many people don't consider the ongoing costs such as maintenance, fuel, storage, and insurance. Before buying a boat, it's important to factor these costs into your budget to avoid financial strain in the future. Always ensure that you have enough funds to maintain and operate the boat after buying it.
Not getting proper financing
Many people don't have the funds to purchase a boat outright and opt for financing instead. It's important to shop around for the best financing options and not to take on more debt than you can afford. Before getting financing, you should have a well-planned budget that covers all the costs associated with owning a boat.
By doing proper research you can make a well-informed decision when buying a boat in Australia.

Irish in Sonoma has a history that goes back centuries!
Tumblr media
The celebration of St. Patrick’s Day was very evident this past Friday as five taverns at or near the plaza were donned with some green, had food ready and were opened before 12 Noon to accommodate anticipated revealers.
Steiner’s had green garlands up on the sign outside and the Town Square, Inc was serving free corned beef and cabbage to customers who wanted to raise a glass or gulp down a pint or two.
The Sausage Emporium, next door to Chico’s on on East Napa Street was eager to welcome customers early by putting up the Irish flag out front and serving Guinness beer for $4.00 all day.
Tumblr media
Of course the majority of St. Paddy’s Day reveling was at Murphy’ Pub in the little alleyway just off of 1st Street, East at the plaza.
Live music could be heard and more and more people flocked to Murphy’s as the lunch hour began.
Tumblr media
While the presence of the Irish in America can be traced back before the Great Potato Famine of 1845, the Gold Rush of California in 1849 undoubtedly attracted scores of Irish to the United States. Between 1820 to 1930 over 4 million Irish migrated to America.
Yet what many people don’t know is that Irish people were here in Sonoma even before General Vallejo set down roots and made Sonoma his home.
According to historian John Patrick Sheehy, Sonoma County’s first Irish settler, John Read, arrived in 1827 while the area was under Mexican rule. Read built a ramshackle house along Crane Creek near Cotati.
Sheehy also noted that San Francisco’s civil engineer Jasper O’ Farrell built a home in Somoma County, near Freestone.
“The Irish were the first large immigrant group to settle in Sonoma County,” said Sheehy. “From the time the county was established in 1850 until the 1890s,” he said.
As Sheehy explained further. “They came from Ireland on three different paths: a number of Irish men been exiled to the penal colonies in Australia by their British rulers after the Irish Rebellions of 1848 and the early 1860s, and then made their way to California.”
“Many immigrated during the Potato Famine of 1845-1849 leaving their homes when a million Irish immigrated to America.”
“Others came to California earlier in 1846 as Union soldiers in the Mexican-American War, and then stayed behind after the war ended to mine for gold before settling on farms in Sonoma County,” Sheehy said.
Sheehy considers Jasper O’Farrell the most notable Irishman in Sonoma County. Before O’ Farrell made a name for himself in San Francisco, “he came to the Sonoma area as a surveyor for the Mexican government,” said Sheehy. “The Mexicans paid him in land grants, including part of Rancho Nicasio in Marin.”
And as Sheehy documents, with the settlement of Irish in Sonoma County a boom crop of potatoes and wheat flourished briefly from the1850s to about 1870, allowing the establishment of a “Little Ireland,” in Lakeville south of Petaluma and on the western slope of Sonoma Mountain.
Yet another bit of California history that most people don’t know is that the last of ill-fated Donner Party who had Irish immigrants among them, lived in Sonoma on the Eastside of town. The last of the Donner children (Eliza & Georgia) who survived the ordeal lived in Sonoma for a time. Donner Avenue is named after them.
While Sonoma may not have a parade on St. Patrick’s Day, the presence of the Irish in Sonoma’s history is perhaps just as significant.

Tours Kimberley: Popular Places You Need To Visit
The Kimberley region of Western Australia is one of the most remote places on Earth. It's home to some of the world's most spectacular natural wonders, including waterfalls and rock formations that can be found nowhere else on earth.
The best way to experience such majestic beauty? By taking Best Tours of Kimberley Adventure. In this blog post, we'll give you all the details about what you need to know about tours in the Kimberley region.
The Horizontal Waterfall
Australia's longest waterfall, the Horizontal Waterfall is located in Western Australia's Kimberley region. It’s a popular tourist attraction and can be found along the Gibb River Road.
The waterfall is named after the shape of its pool, which resembles a horizontal line rather than following the natural curve of most waterfalls. This unusual shape makes for some amazing photo opportunities!
The waterfall has an impressive width of 647 metres (2,119 feet) and extends over 2 kilometres (1.24 miles) from top to bottom! That's longer than Niagara Falls!
The Kimberley Coast
The Kimberley Coast is one of the most spectacular coastal drives in Australia. It is home to many hidden gems and some of the most beautiful beaches in Australia.
The Kimberley Coast offers a unique glimpse into the rich history of this part of Western Australia, including ancient Aboriginal rock art sites, a traditional fishing camp and shipwreck sites.
The area has a wide variety of wildlife including dolphins, sharks and humpback whales along with other marine life such as dugongs and turtles which can be seen during whale watching tours in season (July to November). If you're looking for adventure head out on a guided walking tour or horse riding experience along stunning white beaches or explore remote inland areas by 4x4 vehicle or helicopter flightseeing tour!
Tumblr media
King George Falls
King George Falls are located within the King George Falls National Park, in the Kimberley region of Western Australia.
The falls are also known as Bungle Bungle Falls, which is a misnomer derived from the local Aboriginal language. They were named after King George V and were discovered by a surveyor named John Forrest in 1879.
The falls contain several tiers and can be viewed from several different vantage points throughout the national park; however, viewing options vary depending on when you visit (i.e., during wet season or dry season).
Bungle Bungles
The Bungle Bungles are a rugged sandstone formation in the far north of Western Australia. The name comes from the Aboriginal word 'bunggul', which means "place of water". The Bungle Bungles are a World Heritage Site and one of Australia's most popular tourist destinations.
The distinctive landmass was formed by wind, rain and erosion over millions of years. It consists mainly of sandstone plateaus that rise up to 550 meters above sea level, but there are also some slopes with steep gradients down to the surrounding plain where you can find footprints made by dinosaurs about 200 million years ago!
The Gibb River Road
The Gibb River Road is a spectacular drive through the Kimberley region of Western Australia. The road is one of the most remote roads in the world, and should only be attempted by experienced drivers.
The Gibb River Road begins at Kununurra and travels east to Derby before turning north-east towards Wyndham. At this point it becomes unsealed, but remains passable with an all-wheel drive vehicle or high clearance vehicle.
While there are many popular destinations along this route—including Windjana Gorge Nature Park and Tunnel Creek National Park—the best place to start your trip is Cape Leveque Roadhouse.
From here you can hire an outback adventure tour guide or set out on your own (with a support vehicle) to explore some of the stunning natural features of this part of Australia’s remote Outback interior including Lake Argyle, Wave Rock and King’s Canyon.
Conclusion
We hope you’ve enjoyed this little Best Tours of Kimberley Adventure through this blog. If you ever have time to stop by, we’d love to show you around!

Captain James Cook
James Cook was born in 1728, the son of a Yorkshire labourer, and was largely self educated. He went to sea as an apprentice in the east coast coal trade in 1746. In 1755 he joined the Navy as an able Seaman, but with his natural aptitude for mathematics by july 1757 he had been promoted to master in the Solebay. In 1759 he was master of the Pembroke in the assault on Quebec, when he distinguished himself by his survey of the St Lawrence River, which enabled the big ships of the fleet to ascend it - the first to do so.

James Cook, by Nathaniel Dance-Holland, 1776
After the end of the Seven Years war in 1763, Cook spent five years surveying the Newfoundland coast in his on Schooner, the Grenville. His observations of an eclipse of the sun in 1766 impressed the Royal Society who appointed him an official observer for an expedition to Tahiti to record observations of the transit of the planet Venus across the face of the sun. The expedition was then to go on and search for the continent Terra Australia Incognita, believed to exist in the South.

Cook now promoted to Lieutenant, sailed from Plymouth on 25 August 1768 I the Whitby collier "cat" Endeavour. He had no chronometer, although John Harrison had by then produced the first reliable timepiece, but calculated his longitude accurately by measuring the angular distance between the Moon and a fixed star. Endeavour reached Tahiti in April 1769 without a single case of scurvy, the result of Cook's attention to his ship's cleanliness below decks, and to his sailors diet, which included pickled cabbage and orange juice. The Tahitians greeted Cook and his ships with great hospitality, although he was irritated by their constant thieving.

A view in Matavai Bay, Tahiti, by John Clevely 1787
The transit of Venus was duly recorded on Saturday 3 June 1769, and Cook went on across the Pacific, charted the coast of New Zealand, showing it to be two separate islands, and the eastern coast of Australia, and returned to England in July 1771.
Promoted Commander, Cook was given command of two more Whitby cats, the Resolution and the Adventure, and sailed on July 1772 for a second voyage in which he finally proved that a habitable continent in the South Pacific did not exist. In January 1773, he became the first navigator to cross the Antarctic circle.

The ice islands, seen the 9th of Janry., 1773, by William Hodges 1744-1797
When the Resolution arrived at Portsmouth on 29 July 1775, Cook was promoted post captain, and elected a Fellow of the Royal Society. In June 1776, he sailed again, with the Resolution and another Whitby cat, the Discovery, on a voyage to the north west coast of America. In January 1778 Cook discovered the Polynesian-inhabited Hawaiian group of islands he named the Sandwich Islands, in honour of the First Lord of the Admiralty, the Earl of Sandwich. Cook sailed north through the Bering Strait as far as the ice would let him and then returned to the Sandwich Islands in January 1779 to refit. He was treated by the natives as a Polynesian god. But entertaining a greatly strained local resources and Cook’s departure in February 1779 was greeted with relief.

Views in the South Seas: A View of Huaheine- The Resolution and Discovery off Hawaii, by John Clevely II 1788
Unfortunately, Resolution sprung her foremast two days later, Cook had to return for repairs, his god like reputation shattered, to be met by intense hostility. After the theft of a ship’s boat, Cook went ashore to take one of the local chiefs hostage against the boat’s return. But a large mob had gathered, who stabbed him to death before his marine bodyguard could drive them off.

Death of Captain Cook, by John Clevely II
It was a miserable end for a man who had raised what would become the science of hydrography to a high plane of meticulous accuracy. From now on, the Admiralty would accept nothing less than James Cook’s standard of chart-making.

How to Choose a Marine Surveyor in Dubai
But before you consider hiring a Marine Surveyor, you need to be competent to do a basic per-survey inspection of any boat that might qualify for the short list. The reason is cost. Probable costs are around $AUD 1,000 for an average survey, including slipping for the out of water component. So your Marine Surveyor should be your last line of defence, not your first.
Also for a Buyer, there are so many listings to see and evaluate. And because many of these boats for sale might well qualify; in terms of suitability, aesthetic qualities and price; it pays to take your time. As at 2010, boat markets in the US and Europe (and soon to be in Australia) are flooded with stock and Buyers have by and large vacated the field. So it's clearly not feasible to have your Marine Surveyor inspect every boat that might qualify for an offer.
Your pre-survey survey is  process of elimination based upon a number of guidelines specifically applicable to the build medium. This post doesn't attempt to address these guidelines. Suffice to say that you need to be more vigilant in certain areas of a steel boat. These particular areas of interest will not be the same for a glass boat and different again for foam cored glass boat and different yet again for a wooden boat. And of course then there's aluminum and even ferro cement if you're game enough to venture into that territory.
When via this process; you have eliminated the boats you deem to be not worthy of pursuit, you have your short list of possibly one or two vessels. At this point you need to select a Surveyor. So whom do you ask for advice in this regard?
The first piece of advice forthcoming will likely be offered by the Yacht Broker if indeed there is one.
But while this advice may be taken on board, it should never be followed without solid validation. There are simply too many unwholesome arrangements out there in boat Buyer land, for you to place your trust unreservedly in any Broker's recommendation of a Marine Surveyor.
A better tactic is to ask around locally among savvy boat owners & local Shiprights. This simply avoids the potential conflict of interest situation that arises between the Broker and a Surveyor.
When you find a Surveyor by this means you need to clearly communicate to him your usage intentions for the boat. Do you intend to go to sea? Will you be day sailing or undertaking longer term cruises? What are your expectations with regard to the boat? All of these questions are relevant to the stance your Surveyor takes with respect to his investigations on your behalf.

Mt Molloy
Mt Molloy is a mountain in Queensland, Australia. It is part of the Wet Tropics of Queensland World Heritage Area.

Lakefield National Park has several picnic areas where visitors can relax and swim at their leisure. Most facilities have been built at or close to these picnic areas
