☞ Esther

The name Esther is the natural continuation of the Hebrew אֶסְתֵר Ester, the protagonist of the eponymous book of the Old Testament. According to the book, Esther was a young Jewish woman named Hadassah, which means "myrtle" in Hebrew. The name Esther was imposed on her when she entered the harem of King Ahasuerus. A Targum of the Jewish tradition explains that she was more beautiful than the "star of the night".

In Hebrew, Esther means "I will hide myself". In the Bible, Esther hides her Jewish identity until the moment she must ask the king to save the Jews from the imminent massacre ordered by Haman.

Many studies have also found a connection between this name and that of the Babylonian deity Ishtar, the goddess associated with the planet Venus. Ishtar or Ištar is known in the Jewish community as Ashtoret, whose etymology is still unknown.

Another hypothesis about the origin of this name associates Esther with the Persian term sitareh, which means "star". In this case, it would have the same meaning as the names Stella, Astro, and Tara.

The girl's parents did not choose this name on a whim; the choice is due to the main meaning of the name. Esther means "star," a celestial body that shines with its own light, because it is made of incandescent matter. The name was chosen because the girl represents, in the eyes of her parents, the light of their family, a unique light given to her by nature itself, which also enhances not only Esther but also her family and lineage.

A very ancient family that adopted its coat of arms before the 13th century. It is found in different epochs and in different locations. This family is recorded in the "Armorial Général," which demonstrates that previously and even now it is distinguished by its undeniable valor; nobility is also evidenced through documents passed down through generations over time.

As you can well understand, the girl's family is a fairly wealthy family that has not had any economic problems of any kind for centuries. The members of the Lacroix family have always been very close-knit, and that is unlikely to change. Follow the family's rules, and you will always be helped and respected, both by its members and by most people. Among family members, there has never been a very strong bond of genuine love; what keeps the family very united is mainly belonging to the same lineage of wizards for centuries; the same magical blood runs in their veins. It would be dishonorable for the family to hate each other.

Furthermore, as you may have guessed from the surname, Esther's family comes from France. Some of her relatives stayed there while the other part went to live in the United Kingdom.

As mentioned earlier, Esther's blood status is pure-blood. The term Pure-blood is used by wizards and witches to indicate a member of the magical community in whose veins flows exclusively magical blood because there are no ancestors with non-magical lineage. Some Pure-blood families can trace their status back many generations, denying ever having Muggle relatives, such as the House of Black. But, just as there were never exclusively Pure-blood families in the past, there are none in the present either. They have simply erased Muggle and magical from their family trees. Those who consider blood purity so important usually hide Muggle ancestors, clinging tightly to magical inheritances.

☞ Gryffindor

Gryffindor is one of the four Houses of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It is named after its founder, Godric Gryffindor, one of the four founders of Hogwarts. Gryffindor instructed the Sorting Hat to choose students who possessed what he considered to be the noblest qualities such as courage, kindness, and determination. The house symbol is a lion, and its colors are gold and scarlet. The house ghost is Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington, also known as "Nearly Headless Nick".

Gryffindors are brave and noble of heart. They love to uphold justice and seek out challenges, which often leads them into trouble. They are also known for their loyalty, courtesy, and respect.

The Lacroixes who have attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry have always been sorted into Slytherin (except for one of Esther's aunts who was sorted into Ravenclaw and a few other ancestors sorted into Gryffindor), so you can imagine the disappointment of Esther's parents when they found out that their beloved daughter was a Gryffindor.

At eleven years old, Esther was still somewhat impressionable, so when she was sorted, she was initially angry with herself for disappointing her parents. However, she soon realized that the Sorting Hat had made the right choice. Why? Because Esther felt at home with the Gryffindors, she felt good, she felt comfortable, and moreover, she had also met a lot of nice people.

Esther was born on September 22, 1960, so her zodiac sign is Libra.

The Libra sign is one of the cardinal signs linked to the equinoxes and solstices and is in full equinox in autumn. Esther is reserved but she isn't afraid to stand up for her values when it is something that she cares deeply about.

She is humble, receptive, and trusting. She places a strong emphasis on maintaining harmony and avoiding conflict.

She can be very versatile and is often seen as easy-going. Supportive and accepting, her presence is often found calming by others.

Another aspect of the girl's character is her simplicity. By "simplicity," it means that Esther doesn't need much to have a good time or be happy. It's a side of her character that hasn't changed much over the years. Give her a book, let her play music, let her spend time with friends, or lie on the grass to admire the sky, and Esther will be the happiest girl in the world. In short, simple activities that she greatly appreciates.

One aspect of Esther's character that has changed over the years, however, is her self-confidence and discretion. Esther is not 100% extroverted, but she has made progress since her first year at Hogwarts, that's for sure. She's not the type of person who tends to seek attention or the type of person who is shameless, and she probably never will be. Let's say she knows how to be discreet just right. She's no longer as shy as before; if she has something to say, she says it without hesitation, and if she wants to talk to people she doesn't know, well, often it's the same thing. Despite her calm aura, when she's with her friends, she knows how to have fun. She never does extreme or reckless things, but if there's a prank to be played, for example, she almost never refuses.

Now, let's move on to Esther's flaws, because yes, no one is perfect. One of her flaws is having difficulty admitting her own mistakes or simply admitting on being wrong. Obviously, if the situation gets out of hand or if guilt overwhelms her (which happens most of the time), she apologizes. She doesn't like to argue, that's for sure, but if she gets angry, she does it properly. Especially because she has a lot of pent-up anger somehow.

An issue with Esther is that she doesn't talk much about her problems or feelings. If she does, she uses sarcasm, which doesn't help people understand whether she's feeling well or not. Often, Esther keeps everything inside. She doesn't want to bother people with her moods and problems. On the other hand, she avoids the topic because, most of the time, she does not know why she feels a certain way and doesn't know how to express what she's feeling. Besides, her pride prevents her for showing herself in a position of relative weaknesses (aka, exposing her feelings gives her the same symptoms as someone who's about to throw up).

Esther has another aspect of her character that can be seen, at the same time, in both positive and negative ways. The girl could do anything to protect the people she cares about, especially her friends. What's negative about it? The fact that by "anything," it means both right and wrong things.

As a child, Esther was always a lively person, enjoying simple pleasures and appreciating the little things, in short, a normal child who dreamed of a world full of kindness and flowers, where one could have fun and live in peace. You might think she was naive, but after all, she was just a simple child who was unaware of all the violence that existed and still exists in both the magical and Muggle worlds.

As she grew up, she slowly began to realize that the world wasn't such a perfect place after all, but rather, it had many imperfections; imperfections caused by both wizards and Muggles, who sometimes let themselves be carried away by hatred, envy, anger, and who all too often made irreparable mistakes...

The upbringing she received from her parents was very strict. They made her understand what was right and what was wrong according to them and their values and all that without any delicacy: "Behave this way"; "Don't do this anymore"; "Don't let others walk all over you, instead, walk over them"; "If it's not perfect, it's not good enough."; "Perfection is required, not asked".

These were phrases they repeated to her constantly.

Despite this, Esther was okay with it at first. It seemed almost normal to her, or at least, her parents made it seem that way. They love her, that's not the problem, but they're not the typical parents who say "just try, if you fail it's okay, there's always next time," or "don't worry, we're here if you need us," but rather, they're the type of parents who educate you to be perfect in every way, no failures, etc. They demand perfection and adherence to rules.

Her parents love her in their own way, and Esther knows this; that was enough for her at first, but now she realizes that the love her parents have for her is suffocating. Toxic because they leave her no choice; toxic because slapping her is the easiest option to show her they disagree with her behavior and choices. Toxic also because Esther loves her parents and wants them to be proud of her; toxic because Esther finds it extremely difficult to distance herself from her family even if it's for her own good.

She can't distance herself from them permanently, and that's why, to at least get away for a while, the girl often spent hours in the large garden of the mansion where she still lives. She doesn't do anything particular; she just stays there with her wolfhound dog, Argo, looking at the sky, having fun with him, writing, and drawing. This is one of the things that hasn't changed in Esther's life; she still does it, finding it relaxing, as if it were a little journey back to her childhood where her childlike eyes didn't see the complexity of the world and still had everything to discover.

⋆⭒˚.⋆ CURIOSITIES

◈Perfection

As mentioned earlier, the girl was raised to settle only for perfection, not for mediocrity, not for satisfactory, but only for perfection. She was taught that everything she does must be flawless; if she doesn't do something well, she must try and try again until she feels she has achieved her goal. This mindset is part of the girl's routine, especially in the academic aspect when it comes to grades. She must not settle for a satisfactory grade but must always aim for the best.

◈Music

Esther knows how to play the piano; she started when she was a child. The choice was made by her father, who thought that being able to play an instrument was, after all, a necessary richness.

Playing an instrument is one of the few decisions made by her parents that the girl has liked. Playing allows her to release her emotions through music rather than words, which makes everything simpler.

◈Pets

The girl has always lived with animals, whether it's owls, owlets, dogs, cats, etc. It goes without saying that Esther would be willing to die for her animals.

At school, she brought her owl, Zeus, who keeps her company and brings her letters from her family (not that they write much, of course; most of the time it's just to get news).

Initially, Esther wanted to bring her dog Argo with her, but even though he's a very calm and obedient dog, the only problem is his size. Unfortunately, he's not a small dog, and with much regret, she had to leave him at home with her parents, who aren't that present since they both work at the Ministry.

◈Family

Esther is starting to grow tired of her family, unfortunately. She can't distance herself from them permanently, but she's trying one step at a time. First with Quidditch, then with friends her parents don't approve of and, the night before the start of her final year at school, by cutting her hair.

◈ Books

Esther and books are a love story that will never end. She loves reading; it's a way to escape from reality, and she adores it.

◈Bilingual

As mentioned earlier, Esther's family is French. Growing up, Esther's parents spoke to her in both French and English, so the young Gryffindor can speak both languages.

⋆⭒˚.⋆ QUIDDITCH

☞ Chaser

Chaser is one of the positions in Quidditch. The Chasers throw the Quaffle to each other and try and get it through one of the hoops to score a goal.

The choice to play Quidditch was one of the first things decided exclusively by Esther. She loves Quidditch and could spend hours on her broomstick. For her, this is also a way to escape from reality and problems. Flying gives her a sense of freedom, and playing Quidditch allows her to have fun. She is an excellent chaser, especially because she trains a lot.

As a pet, Esther brought her owl, Zeus. He is a calm, haughty, and very friendly animal (with her at least). He is quite wary of other people, not because he is afraid, but only because for him, his owner is Esther and no one else.

Wood: Alder.

Alder wood is inflexible; however, the ideal owner of a wand made from this material is often not stubborn and obstinate but rather helpful, respectful, and very likable. While most wand woods seek an affinity with the character of the one who will serve them best, alder is an exception because it seems to be attracted to a nature that, if not opposite to its own, is certainly very different. When an alder wand is successfully matched, it becomes a wonderful and loyal companion. Among all wands, this one is most suitable for non-verbal spells: hence the reputation for being suitable only for witches and wizards of higher level.

Length: 12 1/2 inches.

Many wand makers match the length of the wand to the height of the wizard or witch, but it is an approximate meter that does not take into account other important considerations. Indeed, while longer wands may be suitable for tall wizards, they are attracted to people with a strong personality and those who practice a grand and dramatic style of magic, just as shorter wands choose those with some lack of personality rather than those who are shorter than average. Well-proportioned wands, on the other hand, favor elegant and refined spells.

Core: Dragon heartstring.

Generally, dragon heartstring cores produce the most powerful wands and the most spectacular spells. Dragon wands learn faster than other types. Although they may change allegiance if the new owner wins them in battle, they always form very strong bonds with the original owner. They are the easiest wands to convert to the Dark Arts, although they are not inclined to do so spontaneously. Dragon heartstring cores also represent the core most prone to accidents, due to their volatile nature.

A Boggart is a magical creature that can take on the form of whatever the approaching wizard fears most. No one knows what a Boggart looks like when it is alone. It is also a non-being. Feeding on the fears of its victims, Boggarts fear laughter; therefore, the most effective weapon against them is the Riddikulus spell, which transforms the Boggart into something amusing. Company can be useful against a Boggart because, hearing different fears, the shape-shifter cannot decide which form to take. Third-year students learn how to deal with a Boggart in their Defense Against the Dark Arts class.

Esther has a moderate fear of the dark, bees, needles... These are common fears, but ones she can perfectly live with. However, her main fear is to disappoint her parents and friends. Esther's Boggart is the people she cares about the most, telling her she hasn't done enough for them, that they're disappointed in her, that they want nothing to do with her anymore. Esther's fear is not only to disappoint these people, but also not being able to help or save them.

⋆⭒˚.⋆ PATRONUS

☞ Fox

Esther is capable of producing a full Patronus. Of course, this achievement was reached after training several times. She loves perfection after all. You may also wonder what her memory was that allowed her to produce a Patronus... it might seem trivial, but her happy memory is simply her as a child playing with her dog in the large garden of her family's mansion. A simple memory, but one that symbolizes a lot of happiness, a feeling of carefreeness, and unique freedom for her.

The girl's Patronus is a fox. The fox has always been recognized as a cunning animal that sneaks into henhouses to kill chickens, nourishing only on their brains, but this seems to apply more to the mustelids than to the fox. However, it represents cunningness used for personal purposes to defend one's life or will, especially if used negatively and selfishly. The fox stealthily hides from the hunter's eyes, blending in with the environment. Its physical agility and speed have symbolically represented the quick thinking of clever and astute people who know how to take advantage of ideal situations to fulfill their desires without others noticing.

⋆⭒˚.⋆ OPINIONS

In 1977, the wizarding world is in the midst of a magical war. The Ministry of Magic is under attack by Voldemort and his followers, and fear is an emotion that almost everyone begins to feel.

The one who must not be named is behind this war. Rising to power during the 1970s, Voldemort has managed to gather many followers, most of whom (if not all) come from Pureblood families influenced by Voldemort's ideas, namely, the return to a "clean" magical community, not tainted by the presence of Muggle-borns or Half-bloods.

What does Esther think of all this?

It's quite simple: it annoys her. She can't understand why there are people who agree with what Voldemort says. She can't fathom how someone could be so morally decaying as to think they're better than someone else simply because of having "pure" blood while others do not.

Fear is the most difficult emotion to handle. Pain can be cried out, anger can be shouted, but fear silently grips the heart and doesn't easily let go. People change with fear; they can do foolish things. Perhaps people become followers of this dark wizard out of sheer fear or simply because they share his ideas.

On the other hand, Esther must acknowledge that she is also worried about what is happening. She fears for her friends, for the possibility that Voldemort might win this war, but she's also concerned because she knows it's only a matter of time before her family gets involved in all of this (and not on the right side).

Just knowing Esther's opinions on the situation reveals where she stands. As you may have gathered, the girl would rather be run over by the hogwarts express than be on Voldemort's side. Esther's ideas are not compatible with those of Voldemort and his followers and never will be. Will they?

The problem that arises for the girl, however, is primarily that of her family. If her family were to side with the Dark Lord, what will Esther do? Will she be forced to join them too? She doesn't want to and will never join if she can help it, so a solution has been brewing in the young girl's mind for a while now: leaving home. How? She doesn't know. She wouldn't want to put her friends in danger by running to their homes, and besides, she doesn't want to leave her dog with her family, that's for sure. She hadn't talked to anyone about it until the first day of school. She woke up early in the morning and, before catching the train, sent a letter to her aunt about it. She'll find a solution, or at least try. It's better to get away from potential danger before it's too late.

⋆⭒˚.⋆ RELATIONSHIPS

As mentioned earlier, Esther is no longer as shy as she used to be, so she has no difficulty making new friends. When you get to know her well, you realize she's a bit different from when you first met her, obviously not in a negative sense, on the contrary. When Esther is comfortable with people, she's much more spontaneous in her words and actions, she allows herself to express her opinions and feelings and she allows herself to relax for once in a while.

As for the "romantic" aspect of relationships, it's a more complicated matter for the girl. First, she's read too many books and seen too many movies, so her standards are so high that she doesn't even understand them. She's aware it's ridiculous, of course. Second, when it comes to flirting or similar things, Esther becomes clueless. Let me explain with an example. If someone flirts seriously with her, Esther doesn't get it. She's not doing it on purpose, poor thing; it's just her brain that can't process that information. Third detail. Esther has never had a boyfriend because when she likes someone, that person doesn't feel the same way. When someone likes Esther, it's never someone she likes, which is quite irritating and sad at the same time. One thing you can be sure of, though, is that when Esther loves, she does it with her whole being. Body, soul, thoughts, gestures...

◈ Friendships

☞James Potter

Since they're both on the Quidditch team, Esther and James have been friends for years. They knew each other even before joining the team, of course, but playing together has strengthened their friendship. Esther is relatively more serious and calm than James, but it must be admitted that her friendship with him has changed her a bit, especially regarding her shyness. Needless to say, James is outgoing. Esther wasn't, but James has helped her open up more to others. They spend a lot of time together, even now, which is why Esther has "adapted" to her best friend's outgoing nature. Thanks to James, Esther has also been able to meet Remus and Sirius, two people she cares deeply about.

☞ Remus Lupin

Remus and Esther are quite similar in some respects, so they agree on almost everything, spend a lot of time together, borrow books from each other... Esther is very comfortable with both Remus and the other Marauders; they all know each other quite well. With Remus she could spend hours simply staying in silence and relaxing, his presence comforting her as much as it comforts him.

☞ Sirius Black

How can one be friends with James and not be friends with Sirius Black? It's impossible. Those two are like brothers; if you're friends with one of them, you're friends with the other.

Sirius is a flirt, everybody knows, and Esther finds his behaviour in general rather funny. The two are always playfully bickering, exchanging sarcastic comments, just genuinely enjoying their friendship.

The thing that strengthens their relationship however, is also the fact that they have a few things that are similar in their upbringing and they both know that, if one of them needs to talk, the other will always be there to listen, because, in the end, who can understand them better than they do one another?

She's somewhat the black sheep of the family because she's always been rebellious and has never respected the "ridiculous" traditions imposed by her parents; moreover, she is the only one who distanced herself fully from everything relating to her family. She moved to London as soon as she turned 18 and now works at the Ministry as well. She's a bit of the stereotypical rich, single, young aunt. She hardly ever talks to her family; the only occasions they see each other are family dinners and parties (like Christmas or some birthdays - and it's even rare to see her in such events because either she wasn't invited or simply refused to come).

Raised in Cokeworth to a muggle librarian and a muggle school teacher, her upbringing was relatively simple. Her home was dreamed up and doodled on the back of pieces of notepaper when her parents were young, with ivy growing up the walls and beautiful flowers adorning their cottage garden. Lily and her older sister PETUNIA EVANS [sibling/adversary] were named after those flowers, securing a special bond Lily thought they’d share forever. Her sister was her best friend, until the day it became clear that Lily Evans was different. When she was seven years old, playing in the garden with her sister Lily noticed as she and Petunia danced and twirled the flowers in their garden danced too, singing a merry tune as she had once seen in a film. Lily realised she could do extraordinary things, she blew a dandelion into butterflies and could make a bud bloom in her hands. Lily considered herself special, her sister did not. Petunia became jealous of her, saying cruel and spiteful things about Lily’s abilities until tears rolled down her cheeks. A freak was what she called her and her best friend became her adversary. A young boy in Spinner's End became a place of safety for Lily, SEVERUS SNAPE [adversary/former best friend].

A quiet boy, who sometimes appeared awkward in his own skin, Lily brought out some confidence in him, a look of awe in his eyes as she made nature transform into something even more beautiful. Severus told her the magic of the world behind the curtain from her own. Apparently she was a witch, like Severus’ mother and one day she would arrive home from school to a letter from PROFESSOR ALBUS DUMBLEDORE [former professor/leader] telling her she had been selected to attend a magical school for people just like them. Sure enough her letter arrived and Petunia was delighted to hear Lily would be moving away to boarding school, comparing it to a prison rather than a place of education. Lily did not want to leave on bad terms with her sister, but as she boarded the train for school just aged eleven she knew their relationship was well and truly over. Sorted into Gryffindor, Lily quickly befriended a few fellow lions she was fortunate enough to be sharing a dorm with that year. MARLENE MCKINNON [best friend], MARY MACDONALD [best friend], and DORCAS MEADOWES [best friend] were unique characters who made the transition to her new life easier.

Mary was her rock during the process, also a Muggle-Born, they were bubbly, friendly and seemingly unphased by the hustle and bustle of their new world. Lily attempted to follow suit and the beginning of classes signalled a new found confidence for Lily as it quickly became established amongst her peers that she was an incredibly talented witch. A firm favourite of her professors, particularly Professors Slughorn and Fltwick, Lily’s talents began to attract her both positive and negative attention at school, as people flocked to be her friend and ask for her help with their studies. JASPER AVERY [adversary] was particularly jealous of Lily’s talents and frequently made it known he believed her to be lesser, due to her blood status. Lily however, would never be deterred and garnered a bit of a reputation for late night duels by The Black Lake to take down those who dared to challenge her and put their abilities where their mouth was. Lily had thick skin and a sharp mind, which meant cleverly orchestrated insults often followed the sting of her spells. It was this fire that attracted the unwanted attention of JAMES POTTER [close friend/potential love interest/former adversary], a fellow Gryffindor, who Lily found terribly arrogant.

To Lily, James, SIRIUS BLACK [close friend/former adversary] and PETER PETTIGREW [close friend/former adversary] were self-entitled bullies who had found entertainment in making fun of others, namely Severus- though these dynamics quickly shifted. In her fourth year after a stern talking to from McGonagall about her fighting, Lily accepted a position as a prefect with REMUS LUPIN [close friend] and began to see things differently without blood red rage. Her once good friend had sought the company of Avery and LARKIN MULICBER [adversary] another boy Lily despised due to his disgusting treatment of Mary which had left her beaten and bruised. Lily couldn’t understand why he would associate with such people and when she caught him calling her a mudblood with his ‘friends’ and heard James Potter of all people defending her, Lily had little time for his antics. She was still not convinced of James and his friends, but her mind was made up on Severus. From then onwards, Lily was ice cold towards him, not even bothering to insult him but rather looking through him with as much disdain as she could muster.

After graduating both a prefect, head of her class and Head Girl- Lily was anxious to get her life started. As much as she loved her parents, she had no desire to spend any time with her sister and quickly moved into a house-share with American witch PRUDENCE OWENS [housemate] and JONATHAN REEVES [housemate] whom Lily vaguely remembered from school. It was jarring living with people she’d never met after spending so much time with her friends, but strangely Lily liked the separation and enjoyed the oddities of her two flatmates who couldn’t be any different from her. Prue and Jon mostly kept to themselves, which worked for Lily who enjoyed staying in her room after a long day at work. Lily accepted a position working for The Ministry of Magic in their Spells and Curses research department, studying spells and trying to push the limits of magic as they knew it. The job suited Lily perfectly, with a curious disposition and a joy of learning she hoped would never fully be quenched in her role. She saw her job as somewhat academic and didn’t realise how important it would become until people began disappearing. It was because of her skillset that Lily was asked to join The Order of The Phoenix, a secret underground group, it seemed most of her friends had been drafted into by their former headmaster.

When BOOKER BAGNOLD [person of interest] died on Halloween in 1983 everyone suspected a werewolf attack but PANDORA FORTESCUE [friend/colleague] thought differently, though no one quite paid any attention. A whimsical witch, though she was talented, people often overlooked her- but Lily was in awe of Pandora and paid attention to her research, though admittedly long after the Booker case was closed by the Ministry. It had irritated Lily that no one had listened to Pandora and privately Lily began working with her on the case, conducting research into what they thought might have caused the wounds on Booker and looked for any similarities. Annoyingly when ROSALIE FLINT [person of interest] went missing there was no body for her and Pandora to look over and BENJY FENWICK’s [person of interest] vampire attack seemed to be just that. Lily parked her research for some time, irritated that hers and Pandora’s theory didn’t quite seem to fit. Booker hadn’t been attacked by a werewolf, that much she was sure of- even if Benji had and Rosalie had just gone missing. With bated breath Lily waits for the next person to fall, as ghoulish and gruesome as it sounds. Lily knows the Ministry or perhaps their feared rival organisation are framing creatures. All she needs is proof and motive, so maybe her quiet and secretive housemate Jonathan, might be a good place to start.

I really like rping and love pushing my characters but I have a hard time thinking of stuff for them to do! Do you have any recs for which characters you think will be easiest to plot for?

I get it, some folks do better plotting with a blank slate and some do better with a foundation to springboard from. For what you’re after, from our current bios, I'd suggest taking a look at:

Marlene McKinnon - she’s one of our four captives, so she’s got built-in plots right there (not to mention some pretty fraught connections to the other three). Then there’s the fact she has a comparatively fleshed-out family background and is oh yeah also currently an unwilling spy for Voldemort against the Order and she’s basically cake for plots imo.

Emmeline Vance - another of the captives, so all the same things apply there, but she’s got a less defined family background if you prefer coming up with that from scratch. She’s also the girl who figured out who was in charge of the Order before she even graduated, and told Dumbledore to let her join rather than the other way around, so she has history of being an active person -- but now she’s sort of paralyzed by the trauma of her captivity. That might make her the best choice for someone who likes pushing their characters but struggles to plot it themselves, because Emmeline is sort of in that position herself -- and oh yeah, she also doesn’t know that her “safe” job off the battlefield has put her in direct proximity to a Death Eater spy working for the folks who tortured her!

Gideon Prewett - our fourth and final captive (aside from James, who is already taken), he’s also got job ties to Frank and Alice Longbottom as well as a twin brother who’s the reason he joined the Order in the first place.You could easily build either tension or friendship with the Longbottoms (or both!) and definitely plenty of angst with his brother, given the many things they should be talking about but haven’t yet.

Fabian Prewett - likewise has plenty of conflicted feelings over his brother’s capture, and like Marlene he has some nice pre-defined family background and feelings there to build on, plus how his feelings on lineage (and the duties thereof) may be impacted by hanging-out with so many halfblood and muggleborns who don’t have those expectations. And of course, like Gideon, he has the built-in connection of a twin in the Order -- the twin he almost got killed by joining the Order!

Theodosia Selwyn and Evan Rosier and Emma Vanity - all of our spies for Voldemort have loads of plotting potential both for the practical sense of what they’re doing for the Dark Lord, and for their various personal feelings regarding said spying. That also gives them plenty of reasons to interact with other characters -- both for their own purposes, and because it’s literally their job to get close to these people (too bad that sometimes means actually getting close to people they’re supposed to be betraying...).

Caradoc Dearborn - he’s both one of the established leading voices within the Order and he runs one of their safe houses. Plus said location is a pub, which makes it both an official and an unofficial hang-out of the rest of the Order. He always has a reason (and a place) for interacting with other characters. Add to that his exacting nature and his shrewdness, and he has a reason for both noticing and prying when he sees someone acting off.

Peter Pettigrew - he has the Marauders for his closest connections like usual, but he’s also in a very different position in this game than a Peter usually is, being that he’s fallen into a leadership role in the absence of James. This leaves lot of fun new twists on his relationships with his best friends as well as making him a valued and integrated member of the Order. If you’re looking for a character who’s going to be directly involved in the war, he’s probably your best choice -- not that everyone isn’t going to be pulled into our battle events, because they are, but Peter is probably going to end up leading a fair amount of those tasks.

While we certainly tried to provide lots of different sorts of plot springboard points for all our characters, these are just some that I think have stronger “preexisting foundations,” so to speak. We wanted to have bios that would appeal to all sorts of different play-styles, after all, and looking through the rest of our castlist may spark other ideas so please don’t feel like you’re limited to just these! We’re always happy to discuss plot-ideas for any of our characters. Hope this helps!

ABOUT THE CHARACTER

Personality

+ Determined -- Marlene won’t stop doing what she is doing until she gets what she wants, she’s known for doing whatever needs to be done. She doesn’t take no for an answer, despite probably needing to at times. Her determination is something that she’s proud of, even if people think it’s her being stubborn. She’s willing to fight for what she want’s given that nothing is going to be handed to her. + Self-less -- Marlene’s number one priority is her friends and her family but never herself. She’d give up her own life to ensure that someone else that she loves lives. It’s hard for her to see someone she cares about struggle and will do anything to help them. She’s even gone as far as lying to protect a friend, even if it doesn’t end well. + Kind Hearted -- Marlene’s best quality would have to be her urge to help people. She’d never let someone she loved suffer if she could help it. Perhaps it was because it was how her mother raised her. It was the example that had always been given to her from day one of her life. When you love someone you take care of them, and when the tables turn you know that they’re going to be there for you. Marlene definitely needs the good karma in her life considering all the trouble she’s gotten herself into in the past. - Hard Headed -- Marlene doesn’t give up, even when everyone including herself believes that she should. She’ll fight until her last breath. - Loud mouthed -- Marlene knows what to say to get on people’s nerves but likewise she doesn’t know when to stop. She’ll push people to their limits and more often then not she ends up in a more negative situation then a positive. Sarcastic answers are her specialty, even to a professor if they piss her off enough. This trait ties into her determinedness, as people often call her stubborn. - Reckless -- Marlene doesn’t think when she gets involved with something or someone. She just jumps in without question. She’s a devoted person but she’s also quick to action without thinking.

School

Coming from the line of a Gryffindor and a Slytherin she had already made up her mind of wanting to be sorted into Gryffindor. A request that was answered with no hesitation as the hat billowed out and she marched over to where she would spend her next seven years. Marlene was able to pass her courses thanks to the marks she got on her tests and the notes that she borrowed from her classmates. There was no denying that she was smart but the largest thing she seemed to struggle with was that she found herself wanting to work with her hands over sitting and reading like they asked from her in class. A reason that explained why Marlene seemed to be at her best while running the halls and spending her afternoons lazing in the sun. That wasn’t to say Hogwarts didn’t come with challenges–Marlene was a naturally social person and didn’t grasp that as a pureblood, the McKinnon’s were considered better than others. While it seemed, others had been raised to believe this since birth Marlene had been given the gift of free choice. Soon, Marlene had come to realize that had likely been the reason your father had packed the family up and moved, he’d wanted to spare his children from growing up the way Adira Parkinson had wanted.

Bio

As luck would have it, greatness was supposed to come together in the form the Parkinson’s’ oldest daughter and the McKinnon’s’ oldest son and it would be a cold day in hell before either would let their parents down. Marshall McKinnon and Adira Parkinson-McKinnon had two separate stances on the world around them long before Voldemort was known around the Wizarding World. Marshall didn’t fall prey to the notion that purebloods were more worthy of their magic, but Adira was a true Parkinson, a true pureblood, in every move she made. Every decision was calculated and determined to uphold the purity of her blood line. Even still with the differences before them, when they were tasked with marriage after their graduation neither one of them dared to question what was was expected of them and proceeded to marry and produce an heir that joined the two families for life. Marcel had been everything they’d wanted out of a son, a heir who was everything that Adira wanted. But shortly after Marcel had turned one another blessing surprised the young couple, Adira had fallen pregnant once more. Enter little Marlene came into the world with perfect blonde curls and striking green hues that captured your father’s heart. It was decided quickly that the McKinnon family would retire back to the Scottish Highlands where his extended family resided. Raising children in the middle of Europe and with the mentality that was now being shoved down their throats wasn’t something that Marshall wanted either of his children subjected to. Adira was less than pleased but when push came to shove if that’s where her son was going then that was where she’d follow.

Growing up in the McKinnon manor nestled deep in the Isle of Skye, Marlene’s upbringing was unorthodox to say the least. There was no question and no doubt that your father adored everything about his little girl but the fact remained that Marshall was far too flighty in raising his children with the work he had to attend to. Even in Scotland there was no doubting the Auror was in high demand, whispers of how he presented himself in his work had resulted in him being sought out by many. Every need and every want were answered, Marlene had anything that she asked for to make up for the lack of attention from either parent. Adira hadn’t wanted that second child; she’d found her heir in Marcel thus most of her attention was focused on raising the proper solider while Marlene was left to amuse herself. There was comfort in her paternal grandparents who dragged Marlene around with them every which way they went, noticing the lack of stability one should receive from a parent. Even with all the setbacks, Marlene was blissfully unaware that this wasn’t how life was supposed to be, she was a happy child. Marlene and her family would live this way happily until Marcel turned eleven and Marlene just shy of nine, Hogwarts was calling upon him and Adira had let Marshall drag them out here long enough. It was time that he get a proper education that his father didn’t seem thrilled about giving him. Marlene could feel the tension, but you did as she was told, giving a tearful good-bye to her grandparents and heading back with the family to a cozy home in Godric’s Hollow. The next two years were immensely different for Marlene who was more often than not left to find friends to play with in the neighborhood while her father returned to his work for the Ministry as an Auror and her mother did… whatever it was that Adira did.

The two years between returning from Scotland and turning eleven were the absolute loneliest time of Marlene’s life. But when that letter from Hogwarts arrived it was easy to see why a mixture of nerves and excitement coursed through the young witch. The breaks when Marcel was home, he would share stories of the friends he made, the classes he took, the clubs that he’d join and of course Quidditch, something Marlene loved like most children in the Wizarding World did. It was her brother who kept by her side and helped her get her robes, pickup her books, and it was he who was there when Marlene had to choose a wand. He’d only been thirteen at the time but he’d always seemed older than what he really was, something the youngest McKinnon wouldn’t grasp on to until much later.

Returning home from her seventh year at Hogwarts with the dreams that she held and hopes that she had for herself she realized what was going on while she was away. Her parents weren’t seeing eye to eye and the situation had escalated to the point that her mother was leaving the Mansion, after thirty years together her parents were going their separate ways. Standing in the McKinnon manor between her parents she knew what she was going to do as she moved to stand by her father and watch as her mother left. There was no question as the remaining three McKinnons stood together that they felt they’d made the right decision. The Order was calling their name and a difference needed to be made.

Upon Marlene’s completion of her education through Hogwarts it was simple for her to make her way into the career of her choice. Marlene had grown up listening to the stories of the Hit Witches and Wizards that worked for the Ministry and how they were called in to defuse the chaotic situations and to make the tough calls when necessary. It was in the chaos that Marlene thrived, some people froze in a fast-moving situation but for her it was like time slowed down, enabling her to see things clearer than she normally would. There was no denying she was one of the best in the department–most of her poor marks stemming from the inability to remember that her wand was her greatest weapon. The fiery blonde preferred a hands-on attempt at things and more often than not would throw a punch at the perfect moment. Marlene’s career was something she took pride in and to have a child so well looked at in the Ministry resulted in something that Marlene had never had before, Adira was proud of her youngest child. At any given moment Marlene was expected to attend a function where she would make her mother look good and plaster a smile on her face–in turn she was able to evade the traditional idea of an arranged marriage that would bring honor to the blood line. As long as Marlene kept her nose to the ground and kept her place in the Hit Witch department then her mother was willing to let things continue as they were.

The decision to join the Order wouldn’t be an easy one for Marlene. Adira saw a weakness she could exploit, Marcel was finally in a good place, with no parents breathing down his neck. He had a freedom that he’d never had before. It was made clear to Marlene that if she didn’t join the Death Eaters then it would be Marcel and her father that paid the price. There was no question as to what Marlene would do from there. Marcel had practically raised her given the fact her parents were more dysfunctional than anything else–he’d sacrificed so much for her. She’d sooner die than allow her mother to take away the happiness her brother had found. She joined the Death Eaters, keeping the secret from everyone and alienating herself from family and friends alike. She sits at the table listening to Voldemort preach despite her entire body screaming how wrong it all is.
