So, I found out that, as of The Penguin #7 (from February 2024), Martha Wayne has been confirmed to celebrate Hanukkah.
Before, DC had accidentally made her Jewish through the Kanes, but didn’t seem to realize it. I personally figured that although she was technically Jewish, she didn’t actually have a particular connection to it. But yeah, apparently she celebrated at least one Jewish holiday. So…Martha Wayne was Jewish and she participated in the culture.
That means Bruce spent his early years in an interfaith family—even if Martha wasn’t religious, he was raised on two different religious practices. Which likely affects his views on religion, authority, and his family relations, and I find that really interesting.
I really want to explore this in a fic somehow, but I’m not quite sure what to write. But yeah.

I hate bad parent or “failing at being a decent parent” Bruce for so many reasons. It’s sad, it’s infuriating, it’s unfair. But mostly because it makes no f’ing sense. Part of it is because I can’t see his character being a bad dad for a number of reasons, but mostly because that would mean that he wasn’t the only one who failed those kids.
Thomas and Martha failed (not as much as everyone else for obvious reasons but still) for not showing Bruce a better example, for not setting higher standards.
Alfred failed the most after Bruce if the latter was a bad father. Because he was right there. Because he partially raised that boy into the man he was (I always blamed Alfred for Bruce’s unwillingness for showing physical affection to a certain degree. I can’t imagine how Bruce must’ve felt growing up with an always professional butler as a sole remaining parental figure). He failed to sit them down and forcing them to talk when the situation warranted it. He failed to lecture them all on their short comings. He failed to save them from themselves and each other.
Commissioner Gordon failed because I know for a fact that he knew some of it from Barbara who had been Dick’s go to person to rant about Bruce. Especially if Bruce happened to be really abusive.
Lucius Fox failed because he was a close family friend and knew about their home situation.
Leslie Thompkins failed because she’s a doctor and probably a mandated reporter. She should’ve seen, she should’ve interfered.
Clark failed. He was supposed to be Uncle Clark, Superman. He of all people should’ve known and he could’ve acted.
Selina failed. She was on and off in a relationship with Bruce for years. She should have done something.
Every member of the Justice League, sometimes even Titans, when they were no longer children themselves, failed. They were meant to be heroes. Heroes don’t leave children suffer.
Sometimes, to an extent, Dick has failed. Jason has failed. Barbara, Tim, Steph, Duke, Cass has failed. For letting Bruce take in more children and treat them the way they were treated. (Damian is often too young to know better). They were never meant to be responsible for saving their siblings, and they should never be expected to do so, but they could’ve spoken up.
None of them are good people or deserve to be heroes if they let those kids suffer for the sake of friendship or respect.
(This goes for other heroes as well.)

Batfamily au where Martha and Thomas Wayne live
Following popular theories Thomas is a well known and respected doctor/surgeon. He often helps the lower classes by offering free stitches or check ups. Martha was a famous actress/model and loved the benefits of her husband helping everyone (aka never getting harassed).
Bruce is still bruce so he still dropped out of med school and focused on expanding well fare program to help the people of gotham. He still adopts all his kids but deals with all their shit like a normal parent would. But his parents reactions to his children achieving more academically than him is the funniest shit
For example
Martha: oh Stephanie i heared you’re all set to get your M.D.
Steph: yes i am finally all the hard work paid off
Martha: at least you saw it through unlike other with more privilege. You should ask Thomas about working with him.
Bruce: I don’t like blood 🫤
Or
Jason: so Grandma and Grandpa will you make it to my graduation ceremony for my Phd in philosophy?
Thomas: Of course, another Wayne with a doctorate we wouldn’t miss it for the world
Martha: don’t worry we’ll stop your dad from getting matching shirt with your face on them, jaybird
Bruce: *on the computer created the shirts*
And bruce isn’t even mad at the pettiness of his parents because his children are all accomplishing greatness by following their passion. Plus, he knows his parents are just kidding and glad he followed what made him happy even if it was becoming a single dad at 21.

RIP Martha Wayne. As a Jewish mother you would have loved having Clark as a son in law because he’s never more than two seconds away, is always willing to help out around the house, and has 0 excuses for not visiting.

You know that thing where we’re like “Joker shouldn’t have a backstory” because it ruins the mystery and whatnot? That but with Alfred.
Screw all the comics telling us that he’s an ex-intelligence officer or that he’s just a regular guy that got promoted to being a butler. I want Alfred to basically be a cryptid. He just kinda showed up one day and the Waynes rolled with it. One time when Bruce’s parents were still alive he asked them how they met Alfred. And they were just like; “…That’s a good question.”
And whenever Alfred is asked he always comes up with the most absurd lies.
“Oh, yes Master Bruce, I met your parents after a blood ritual gone wrong and now I am forced to serve this family forever.”
“I was an assassin sent to kill your parents and pilfer their riches but alas I grew to attached to them and their adorable little rascal of a son.”
“I tripped and fell from the heavens because of how distraught I was at your Father’s complete and utter lack of self-preservation”
And the Batkids will sometimes try to get the truth out of him but give up pretty quickly. Except Tim. Tim seems to have figured it out. That’s gotta be why both of them have seemingly stayed the same age all this time.

Imagine Thomas and Martha Wayne getting resurrected via whatever the bullcrap of the week is, and it NOT getting undone once the conflict is over. Bruce and the kids are experiencing All The Emotions but Thomas and Martha are just happy to be there and are wholeheartedly rolling with it.
"The Waynes are a superhero family now? That's amazing! Martha, isn't it amazing?"
"Yes, dear. So much better than the organized crime we used to do. Oh, don't worry Bruce, we really only did it out of obligation, we would have jumped to vigilantism long ago had we known it was an option."
"Martha, we have grandchildren! They're adorable!"
"Thomas you've already met most of them."
"Yes but now I can appreciate them! And spoil them!"
"Thomas, honey, if you actually act as an enabler for our grandbabies I think you'll end up giving our poor Bruce a heart attack."
"Damian has a sword Martha! A sword! We have swords in the family! This is wonderful!"
"I know, Thomas."
Thomas has to be physically restrained from learning how to be a vigilante. He's too old, and Bruce and the rest don't want him to die *again*. He can help Alfred. Doesn't stop him from badgering his grandchildren about their hobbies. Ostensibly it's because he wants to get to know them better, but they all know he just really wants to learn how to do the cool things they all do. He's banned from using the Batcomputer at least thrice.
Martha at first seems content to just sit in the house and play the role of old-fashioned housewife but one day she inexplicably appears in Jason's apartment, supposedly to return one of his guns after he dropped it. He could have sworn it was fully loaded when he lost it, and now it's empty. Martha's fingerprints are the only ones on the gun. He decides to not ask questions.
They both neglect to inform the high society of Gotham that they're alive, and it takes a while for them to realize this. Gradually every rich person in Gotham takes their turn having a breakdown over having to deal with even more Wayne bullcrap. How come the Waynes are the only ones that seem to be immune to death???

okay so like
bruce’s parents died when he was eight, and from then on he was raised by alfred, correct? and alfred had been taking care of bruce since he was four
what i’m getting at here is: bruce would absolutely have a slight british accent that he unconsciously picked up from alfred
i mean like aside from classmates and teachers, alfred is who bruce spent the most time with
i just think we should acknowledge bruce would have a slight british accent is all. like it seriously doesn’t change anything but i want it to be talked about. please
of course bruce can do a bunch of different voices and accents, but this is when he’s just speaking normally (mostly among the batfam)
he also definitely uses the british word for things (lift instead of elevator, rubbish instead of trash, etc.)
no one would really question it because he’s rich and fancy, and it’s a sort of posh accent
but i want the batkids to joke about it (not when alfred is around tho)

I know it's not really canon bc Alfred is seemingly ageless, but I like the idea that he was like 30-ish when Bruce was orphaned. Like Martha Wayne was like 20 when she had Bruce and 28 when she died with Thomas being 23 at Bruce's birth and 31 at the time of the shooting, while the butler they hired was around their age too (Alfred x Martha x Thomas rights), but Bruce never realized bc Alfred goes gray early and is, again, ageless. So, he is like panicking at 21 having acquired a nine year old and he's like 34 when Damian comes in his life and by the time the batfam has settled he's nearly forty and he asks Alfred how the fuck he kept up with him before he calmed down a bit as a teen bc he had a purpose and then fucked off to go train and Alfred just goes "I was ten years younger than you're now, sir, I also don't know how you do it. Have you looked into the Batman retirement plans more?" and it's only then that Bruce learns Alfred also had not fucking clue what he was doing and was pretty young (though way more reasonable than Bruce with Dick's adoption) to have a whole ass child as a responsiblity. Just the idea that they're closer in age tickles me
