This is from the very imaginative "Royal Doulton" sequence, where the live actors blend with animation. The dress, with its trompe l'oeil painted details, bridges the gap between the two. The top picture has a really good view of the painted ruffles and bow on the collar. I also think the birds on her hat are really cute!

Annabel Banks also has a cute pink dress in a shorter style appropriate for a young girl, with matching pink ankle boots. It can be seen in one of the pictures above.

oh, my dear comrade... for you... i will endure it. i'll try to go see it christmas weekend.

#it looks Awful. based off aesthetics alone (gleaned from the trailer) i hate how they've let the whimsy of wonka himself leak out into the #atmosphere like a hole in an astronaut's suit. #like dressing every character (even the background ones) in fancy colorful slightly eccentric clothes #with no purpose beyond 'doesn't this look fun'. #the trailer and world feels so ungrounded. i love how the 71' characters--while exaggerated caricatures of certain attributes--appear and #feel real and lived in. #everything in this wonka movie looks like it was wrapped in new vibrant clothes like cheap presents or veneers. #i don't want veneers! i want braces! the charm of utility! #it looks so much like it's trying to replicate the feel of the show a series of unfortunate events. #but that is not the point or ambiance of wonka and his movie at all. #it's like they watched asout and then mary poppins and thought 'i can do that' #but don't get me wrong--i WILL have fun watching it. for better or worse.

Emily had a busy day on November 10th with a lot of appearances and outfit changes! This was unfortunately my least favorite look.

I thought the top half was strong, the beauty look was top notch. I liked the oversized jacket, with cool lapel details, paired with the bandeau.

I thought the look fell flat on the bottom. I think the pants were too large. The oversized jacket and large pants just looked unflattering. I think slightly more tailored pants would’ve been much better. Instead, it almost feels like Emily is wearing pjs.

Theatre kids of tumblr, please tell me your worst quick change.

Mines not technically a quick change but I’m gonna talk about it anyway because it requires me going from Elphaba (Wicked) to one of the Chimney Sweeps (Mary Poppins) in about three minutes.

You haven’t known panic until you’re frantically scrubbing layers of bright green body paint off your entire face and neck in an arts centre bathroom and trying to do a full costume change while Stick To The Status Quo from HSM is blaring in your ears. I think we ended up covering up a lot of the green patches that we couldn’t get off in time with black so that we could turn them into soot marks.

Fucking nightmare. It was so much fun but my GOD I despised that change with my entire soul.

Mary Poppins Returns / Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins

Although this movie is set in the 1930s, the fantasy bathing sequence has the characters in Victorian-style swimwear. They're all cute, but I especially like Mary's outfit. The bold zigzag designs shape the edges of the skirt and sleeves, and then there are bloomers underneath. The red bow and shoes really stand out. And the flying fish on her hat is so cute!

I notice the exhibit photo shows a red shoulderbag with the outfit, which wasn't used in the film.
