ENOUGH with the "Well, actually, that's the monster, you mean the doctor...." and "Well, actually, he was never a doctor....."
Just say "Oh, Frankenstein? Adam or Victor?" and move on with your fucking life

Life, although it may only be an accumulation of anguish, is dear to me, and I will defend it.

The Hollywood creation of "Castle Frankenstein" as the place where Victor creates the Creature is really a shame, as it prevents the wider public from knowing the hilarity of the fact that Victor made his fucked up homunculus in his student housing at the college in Ingolstadt. Imagine you're trying to get your bachelor's degree and the chem major down the hall has created a crime against god in his fucking dorm room AND THEN HE LEAVES IT THERE. The creature has to make his own damn way off campus somehow!!!

Muppet Frankenstein, where the only human actor is the Monster, and he has no prosthetics. Everyone just reacts to the one human in their world as a horrific monster. The body parts before the animation are even visibly felt Muppet limbs, but the creature rises as a human.

I love how the message of Frankenstein isn’t “don’t play god and commit hubristic acts of mad science” but instead “when you commit a hubristic act of mad science you are responsible for parenting whatever comes out of it”

I really enjoy the genre of “older literature featuring a really smart but deranged college student who does something really fucked up with his knowledge and has multiple breakdowns over it for the rest of the story.” one because it is entertaining and two it encapsulates the college experience in a way nothing else does.

it’s alarmingly unsung that frankenstein was conceived and written by a 19 year old woman

10.16.21 — “beware; for i am fearless, and therefore powerful.” frankenstein by mary shelley has always been my favorite book. it holds a special place in my heart, and part of it is because i have always been inspired by her personal life.

Victor: (Faints after seeing the giant corpse man he has created)
The Creature: Father is...evil? Father is unyielding? Father is incapable of love? I am running away. I am packing my little rucksack and going out to explore the world as a lone vagabond. I can no longer thrive in this household.
