The Krewe of Orpheus, co-founded by Harry Connick, Jr., is one of New Orleans' super krewes. The musically-themed krewe was New Orleans first super krewe to allow both men and women riders. Their parade features 1500 riders on 38+ floats, including the massive (139 ft long) Leviathan float. They throw a variety of signature throws - including 4-foot stuffed dragons! - but their most sought after is a custom decorated tambourine. Following the parade, the krewe hosts Orpheuscapade, a black-tie musical extravaganza that is open to the public.

Asura Appreciation Week day 1! (Late! Real not clickbait!) Aka I was in WvW all night and forgor.
@asura-appreciation-corner
This is Thiiyf, full name Thiiyfadora (teef-uh-dore-uh) -- my personal favorite and most developed Asura oc.
Here comes her whoooole life story for day 1!
Her parents, Prim and Spixx were both Inquest agents. Raised in one of their labs in Brisban, Thiiyf was at best ignored by their krewe. At worst, and more frequently, she was involved in their experiments as an unwilling test subject. When she was four, the lab was raided by Peacemakers and Wardens, and she was taken to Rata Sum to recover. There, her closest blood relative was located-- Laz, her mother's sister.
As time passed, Thiiyf’s memories of her childhood faded. She showed a frank disinterest in any of the colleges, or in finding a krewe. Throughout her childhood and early teen years, Thiiyfa spent much of her time with Laz's krewe, watching them work as she doodled, or exploring old and off-limits areas in Rata Sum. She began making maps as a hobby, cataloging the back routes and little alcoves all over the massive city, finding the best spots to hide from Peacemakers.
At fifteen, she knew Rata Sum like it was the back of her hand. Her maps of the city and docks showed an intense level of detail, notes about every little thing. She found herself bored once the map was completed; understimulated, she took to shoplifting and pickpocketting as a neat trick. Eventually the Peacemakers caught her, searched her bag, and confiscated the map she'd spent her youth compiling.
Devastated, she tried to forget about cartography and her magnum opus. It would return to bite her again when the sylvari firstborn Trahearne showed up at Laz's apartment, seeking a skilled cartographer for an upcoming mission to the resurfaced country of Orr. This is how she made first contact with what would eventually become the Pact.
In the meantime, Thiiyf began training as a mesmer, having never taken an interest in battle before that moment. Her mentor, a slightly unsettling charr, pushed her to discover new talents within herself. Together with her charr mentor, Gunpowder, and another asura, Tzuuya, Thiiyf and co attempted to take down the Inquest lab colloquially known as The Funhouse, where Thiiyf blacked out from stress. Starting to tally things up, she made a note to ask Laz about the Inquest later.
Sometime after, Laz's krewe was slaughtered by Inquest, leaving her as the sole survivor. Thiiyf chose this point to question Laz about the Inquest, and her aunt admitted that she had, at some point, been involved with them. Further prodding revealed that her sister, Prim, had led her down that path, and she'd warned Laz not to show her face again if she wanted to keep her other eye. The revelation that her parents were Inquest shook Thiiyf, as the grainy memories and nightmares she'd been ignoring started to make more and more sense.
In the meantime, feeling she couldn't trust Laz at the moment, Thiiyf ran. She headed for the Grove, further east than she'd ever been, where she would encounter the future Pact Commander, a newly awakened sapling named Alba, and reconnect with Trahearne.
From there, she mainly supported things from the sidelines as the Pact was formed. She was sixteen by the time the newly formed alliance moved on Orr, and worked with five other cartographers to scout and catalogue the warped landscape. By the time Zhaitan fell, there were only two of them left.
Between Zhaitan's death and Lws2, she visited home and her physician, worried about hair loss and fainting spells. Things didn't look good. After years of dormancy, the results some experiment performed on her in her childhood had suddenly started to flare up. It was estimated that she might have ten years, if she was lucky. After some grieving, she decided that she wanted to get back to work. Better to go down fighting for the cause than sick in some bed somewhere.
She mostly stuck with Alba after that, accompanying him as he traveled. She was involved in mapping again, this time the heart of maguuma as the Pact struggled for its foothold there. The tragedy unfolding around her was a lot to bear, and by the time Mordremoth was dead, she had made a promise to herself to leave the Pact. She didn't want to spend her ten years in warzones, flinching from every sound, surrounded by dead and dying--ten if she was lucky.
She left while Alba was in a severely emotionally vulnerable state, having killed Trahearne, and didn't allow herself to look back. As a result, they didn't communicate for several years. These days they send the occasional friendly but emotionally distant letter, but haven't seen each other in person since.
After leaving Alba and the Pact, Thiiyf returned to Rata Sum. Full of resentment and angry at her time limit, she organized a group to help her settle her past. Knowing that Spixx was already dead, she tracked Prim to the Shiverpeaks, where she cornered her, seeking revenge. She realized, meeting for the first time in almost 15 years, readying for a killing blow, that while killing Prim would be justified, it wouldn't change anything for her condition and lifespan. She spared her birth mother's life, but captured her to hand her over to the Peacemakers later.
These days, she's retired from adventuring. She lives in Brisban, in a cottage near a sylvari village with Laz, who never joined another krewe. She's given up real map making for the fantasy variety, drawing maps for adventure novels, and occasionally gets to travel to cool places as a result of the job. (Most recently, she met with Goldclaw in Cantha to discuss his next big project.)
As SotO begins, she's on a work-vacation in Kessex Hills, taking inspiration from the wizard's tower and the village below for her next project... so we will see how that might unfold for her :)

I totally forgot to tell yoh guys that I’ve been watching the new Goosebumps show btw. I like it. I hope it gets renewed. My review is gonna seem lukewarm but please bear in mind I watched it all which says everything if you understand how rare it is for me to finish a season of anything let alone with long episodes - like that on its own is a massive compliment.
Anyway I thought it was a fun take on the Goosebumps franchise as someone who literally learned to read & grew to love reading specifically because of the Goosebumps books. When I tell you those books WERE my childhood I’m not kidding. Teachers came up to me & told me to stop reading & go play at recess lol like that’s a core memory I have from middle school. I LOVE the books & just the universe of Goosebumps. I love the original show & even like the Jack Black movie.
The cast of characters was fun & the situation made them a fun group much like another recent fave of mine, Fright Krewe (terrible comparison because I love Fright Krewe 1000x more. go watch Fright Krewe if you haven’t. for real). If there’s one thing about me it’s that I do love a group of teens thrust into a spooky scary situation & forced to be besties. I think this was an incredibly strong premise for a serialized version of Goosebumps with recurring characters & so much of it - like the parallels between the teens & their parents, the backstory with Harold Biddle, the horror & Stephen King References, the mini plots that built the main cast up & brought it all together when we realize the haunted items effecting them are all connected - there’s so much to love.
Unfortunately the love triangle & its focus does take up a LOT of screen time & this is from someone who is a bold defender of love triangles as a trope in teen media. This one just falls flat & makes otherwise likable & engaging protagonists cringe to me. The issue is that I enjoy the plot & friendships outside the love triangle & all characters involved are MUCH more engaging when they’re not angsting over their love triangle drama. They all have so much more interesting stuff going on I just want to scream at them to shut up about the love triangle shit. But maybe I’m just getting old & cranky who knows lmao
Anyway I don’t think this show is groundbreaking or anything BUT it’s a lot of spooky fun & one of the rare new shows I’ve actually gotten sucked into lately sooo that’s my opinion lol

There's a new Asura in town.
He's a member of a new Krewe. You may have seen some of them already.
Introducing Animeologist Fleeb. Fleeb knows anything and everything about all the latest animated holovids coming out of Cantha. Not to mention he's an accomplished online gamer, spending a massive amount of time playing games such as World of EverWars and GuildQuest with his friends and krewe. He also claims to be a proficient hand-to-hand combatant, but so far, he hasn't proven it yet.

Ok, between the rapid construction of Rata Primus and the Infinity Coil as well as the weird layout of Ratas Sum and Primus I think it is once again time to throw my hc into the room. Rata Sum (and Rata Primus too then) was created by summoning a giant cube of stone with amped up elementalist magic and then the cities carved into that cube. That's why there's the Golem Mines in Rata Sum, they're digging out more city. This requires a buttload of power, which is why we see people at Luminate (a powerplant) being the ones planning new city cubes.
You know, I'd buy that. The city cubes are so massive it's hard to believe they just dug that out somewhere, so instead magicking up these giant cubes and using elementalist magic to fuse them together, then using golems to dig out the rest of the needed area (probably also amped up with some elementalist magic here and there) makes a lot of sense.
It also explains why Rata Sum and Thaumanova (what we can see of it, since it was largely destroyed in the meltdown) seem so much more complete than the Infinity Coil and Rata Primus, even if it's clear they're still very much in production.
Makes you wonder how big the Luminates Krewe is. They must have a lot of work to keep them busy, with a lot of irons in the fire.

HEY!!!!! What's the differences between our space and tyrian space? Also, what advancements in space study have been/are being achieved by your krewe?
@mystery-salad
deep breath
ok so, there's one MAJOR difference here: Tyrian stars have completely different life cycles, and are legitimately useful for augury.
Firstly, the night sky evolves much, much faster than it does in real life, and that's why constellations are all named in modern language. There's no "Cuspis" but there is a "Siege Devourer," and I posit that this is because the stars change position (or existence status) relatively quickly, so ancient constellations simply don't exist anymore. I feel justified in saying this, mostly due to the fact that Elder Dragons form new stars when they appear, and also it's just really odd to not have any Old Names for constellations.
For the second point, the Canthans in GW1 did divination with the positions of the stars (and planets, see note below), as did the Jotunn, and some Norn culture as well (if memory serves).
Tyria does, in fact, have an inclined axis of rotation. The different lengths of day and night in core maps, combined with the equal lengths in Cantha, imply this directly.
There are other planets (almost certainly discovered by the Jotunn before their fall, given the massive telescope found in the Jotunn path in Arah).
Tumblr media
The following are pure headcanon with zero base in canon, though it's all perfectly compatible.
Tyria has two moons, the large one we see in-game being named Tungl and a much smaller, nearly too-dark-to-see named Flakkari.
The sun is named Ljos, but is near-identical to Earth's Sol.
Current S.P.A.C.E. Krewe projects:
Our optical observatory is quite good due to Kanni's optical expertise and Cidda's specialty in high-detail photography, so we'll have good imagery of those other planets I mentioned, and I'll have an excuse to build up the entire Ljosian system.
Yukii is pioneering the field of radio astronomy (my real-life job), and Leppa is currently using that equipment to perform a survey of deep sky objects. There's some weird stuff out there in real life, and who knows what she'll find in this universe?
Nixxi and Takka are working on launch vehicles to officially start the space exploration process. Satellites fitted with optical cameras and other sensors will revolutionize cartography, geology, and navigation, once we get the rockets working.
Kovvi's current project involves extreme-range wireless data transmission, including images and live voice. This will initially be used in conjunction with the satellites, but will eventually result in things like long-range encrypted communication devices becoming much cheaper to produce.
There's lots I'm forgetting but it'll come up eventually I'm sure 😅 Thank you so much for asking about this aa

Hello I have been encouraged by even a singular person to post about Bjazz and that is good enough for me fosaodfin Cuz this will prolly get Long and also with the ten year anniversary of gw2 just happening and the game being released put up on steam causing an influx of new players, I’m gonna put this under a read more. Anyways... yeah.
Tumblr media
Firstly... Here she is. Her current fit. Iconic. The gold eyes are out of place but she was born that way so rip sosiof (Although I did get a total makeover kit for the anniversary so... That might change, idk)
Bjazz Leftpaw (she/he) is a young adult Asura (barely 22 at the start of the game and either 23 or 24 at the point in game where I’m at now) and an engineer. She’s a college drop out (College of Dynamics specifically), which is a big deal for the Asura because the three colleges are as much a cultural thing as they are institutes of learning. Bjazz is by no means dumb but for a race of hyper intelligent little freaks (affectionate) being behind in school is a Big Deal. So dropping out entirely? Yikes.
Despite his father attempts to help him catch up for basically her entire life, he disowns her after she drops out. He’s a political man and trying to move upwards in the world and having a disgrace of a daughter isn’t good for his image. So... Out he goes. In the time between that and the beginning of the game’s story, she crashes with her friend and krewe leader Hronk (we love a good NPC). That’s where the game begins, with their krewe winning the Snaff Prize and Bjazz being named the Snaff Savant.
I cannot get too far into Bjazz’s story without bringing up Biarr. Biarr (he/him) is Bjazz’s older brother (a player character played by my older brother). Biarr graduated (I forget which college, whoops) and was pressured into taking a job with the government by he and Bjazz’s father. He actually studied to be an archeologist and accompanied a group to a dig of Orrian ruins. In an accident there, he becomes blind in one eye and is sent back home to recover. It’s at this point that he and Bjazz meet up again and their stories intersect for a while. Bjazz hides the fact he dropped out and Biarr doesn’t tell him about what happened on the dig so they’re both keeping secrets.
They complete the first parts of the personal story together, saving Professor Gorr from a corrupt Arcane Council (Asuran government) member and Biarr tagging along when Bjazz attempts to fix up an old project of hers (which of course goes wrong and causes Bjazz to kill an alternate version of herself which I actually never thought about the trauma behind that before huh). It’s around then that the two siblings split up again, both choosing to join one of the three orders. Biarr goes to the Priory cuz he’s a Smart Guy and Bjazz joins the Order of Whispers because she doesn’t think she’s smart enough for the Priory or strong enough for the Vigil.
In the Order of Whispers Bjazz is quickly paired up with Tybalt Leftpaw for a mission. Over the course of that mission, as well as through various others that aren’t a part of the game but exist in my head for Bjazz and Tybalt, the two of them bond. Tyblat become a sort of surrogate father to Bjazz, something he embraces easily (he calls her cub and it melts my heart y’all have no idea). Tybalt is one of, if not the, only people that Bjazz feels like he can fully open up to.
And then Claw Island happens. Because of course it does.
Claw Island is when Bjazz and Biarr cross paths again (they’ve been sending each other mail because they’re still Good Siblings, just in very different places). Both are there on behalf of their orders because they’ve both individually discovered something concerning that heavily points to the elder dragon Zhaitan and/or his minions will arrive in an attempt to get to Lion’s Arch.
(Elder dragons are the big bads and Lion’s Arch is a massive, multicultural city that I personally think of at the One Big City because I fucking hate Divinity’s Reach. If you wanna know more you should play the games. Or look it up, whatever osdfsoaifn)
Claw’s Island is attacked because of course it is, this is a video game and we need conflict to progress the story. Despite best efforts, the fort is overtaken and the Main Characters are forced to retreat. In a (successful) attempt to buy time for the groups’ escape, Tybalt (and also Sieran, a close friend that Biarr made in the Priory) return back to the main area of the fort to fight like hell. Bjazz attempts to go after them, fully aware that it’s a suicide mission and not willing to let Tybalt die, at least not without her too. Biarr and the rest of the group have to physically carry her to the boats to escape, but she is devastated. He’s barely able to stand, let alone fight, but finds the courage to do so anyway to avenge Tybalt and save Lion’s Arch.
I haven’t mentioned Trahearne yet. This is intentional. This is a Trahearne hate zone. If you like him, that’s totally fine, but I absolutely Do Not get it. I don’t wanna fight about this cuz I think it’s dumb to, but I just Do Not Like him. This extends to Bjazz because I’m not gonna make a character that loves a character I hate oaidsnfon
After Trahearne has his special big boy moment where his mama gave him a Cool Sword, he, Bjazz and Biarr (as well as the Lion Guard and the three orders) return to Claw Island to reclaim it. This is a successful venture and the city of Lion’s Arch (and the entirety of Tyria) are safe for a little while longer. Trahearne has the idea to unite the three orders to make the Pact, an army to defeat the elder dragons. He asks Bjazz to be his commander and she accepts cuz as much as she hates this fucker, he wants to fully avenge Tybalt and just generally have the elder dragons fuck off.
Bjazz has a Rough introduction to being the Commander of the Pact, almost immediately committing a war crime, whoops. Tricked by an enemy mesmer (a profession with illusion magic) into firing upon Pact soldiers, Bjazz is devastated all over again. She sets out to rescue an abandoned team while Biarr (who’s still here and is also a Mesmer himself) goes out to figure out what happened. Together they kill the enemy mesmer and move forward towards defeating Zhaitan.
I’m not gonna go into details about that because it’s just the in game events and you really should play it cuz it’s Very Good but it does eventually happen. A highlight of the event is that Bjazz tells Biarr that she dropped out of college while Zhaitan is basically right on top of them. After the elder dragon is defeated, in the middle of the massive Pact party, the two of them find some time to get away from it and talk about a Bjazz dropping out as well as some other things (I actually wrote this if anyone wants to see). The two of them are doing well, even though Biarr returns to the Priory while Bjazz stays in Fort Trinity to continue being the Pact’s commander. He takes Tybalt’s last name as a way to honor him and so a tiny bit of the father he wished he had more time with would always be with him.
That’s not going too great because Bjazz is Super Depressed (understandably). Around this time Newt Finknottle (he/him) shows up (another player character, played by my brother’s roommate). He’s basically Bjazz’s PR manager and government assigned gay best friend (I say that only half jokingly). He’s got his own backstory and motives but I am... losing steam odfinsaofd He’s there for the foreseeable future and Bjazz originally takes some issue with him (she doesn’t really want someone following her around and telling her how to act) but she warms up to him soon enough.
I left out a lot of details, specifically about Bjazz as a character which was actually what I wanted to post about, oops. I’ll probably post more stuff like this and maybe some of the writing if I get an okay from my brother but this is basically Bjazz throughout base game. I have a lot of love for her and am always ready to talk about her oisdfoifn This got really unorganized by the end and honestly kind of is throughout, sorry. I just love him a lot...

Where all chaos started
// This is just a fun story for my Asura character that I created a little AU for, don't mind the shitty grammar and errors, mostly wrote this past-midnight times, all tired, in the past few days... This is supposed to be the intro part to the whole story, but ended up being a bit longer than I expected so... 🤷‍♀️ For context, this is not in "our" Tyria, but a different version through the mists. //
It was quite a historical event in our world, unfortunately not the kind that people wish to remember. The first of our many disasters, and we didn’t even know it was just the beginning. Nobody knew…
About four hundred and sixty-three years ago, an exploring Krewe bumped into an apparent secret chamber in the depths of a new land to the far east. They, well, we thought that landmass was peculiar, especially after the exploring Krewe went radio silent. The Charr showed interest in the place as well, to avoid any possible confrontations they mutually agreed to work together with us. The Iron and Flame legion can be very handy together.
When everyone was prepared, as much one can prepare for the unknown, we set sails with about two dozen galleons. I wish we had airships that time, I can’t stand the sea. Unfortunately, I was among the Krewes that participated in the mission. The evening approached as we got closer to our destination. The darker it got the more we started to notice a strange… not sure how to describe. It was just a huge pillar of light?
I’m not exactly sure why, at the time, but it felt ominous to look at it. However the closer we ended up getting to it, it also seemed to slowly disappear from sight. That is when the galleon at the very front seemingly… crashed into a wall. A few were lost, but we managed to save the majority of the people on it and we quickly salvaged what we could. With a quick, but rather primitive way, we managed to figure that this new land had a massive shield projection around it.
This was very, very unusual. The exploring Krewe had no such tech with them to use, therefore at the time we thought about two probability. First, there are possibly other Asura on the land already who thought this Krewe was trying to invade or intrude this place. After further thoughts it didn’t make much sense. The second possibility we brought up was that there is simply another highly intelligent race living on this huge land and it was just a matter of time till they initiated some kind of defense against new intruders.
A Krewe on board was specialized in shield projections and similar tech. They examined the shield and its energy properties, and they realized it was nothing but an absolutely basic shield projector, but it was extremely boosted. Using a few golem cores, they managed to overload the shield, and just like brittle glass, it all shattered. We continued until we hit land finally and we set up our camps with extra defenses and caution, we couldn’t take any chances. Not after what happened.
Despite all of that, this place was beautiful. I don’t often state this about a location, but for once I just couldn’t say anything else. It truly was a magnificent place. I was on night watch with my krewe and a few Iron Legion soldiers when the mysterious pillar of light appeared and with it, the strange shield was all up once again as well. The light barely lasted a minute or so before it simply stopped once more, however the shield stayed up. We alerted the others, but nothing else seemed to follow up afterward, so most people went back to rest, and eventually so did I.
On the second day a couple of Krewes and Warbands along with us headed out to try to find and explore the supposed chamber. Unfortunately we had no exact directions, it could have been anywhere on the entire land. For obvious reasons, we first tried to determine where the strange pillar of light was coming from, some of us thought it would lead us to the place.
On our way to the mountain, the pillar of light shot up to the skies and once again some of us could feel this weird and ominous feeling. I could hear a low frequency sound as if the light was softly humming while we were closer to it. It made me feel anxious, it made me feel everything but good. Some of us gave up right on the spot and turned back, even the Charr were freaking out. I got the urge to do the same as they did, but I knew I had to continue. At this point I simply had to know what it was, what causes all of this? So many unanswered questions.
We marched to the mountain and some of us stayed at the base. My Krewe had scanning devices specialized for similar missions to detect magic or certain energies in or around an environment. Our tech was quite essential here. When we finally reached the top, we looked around and cautiously examined the place, but nothing unusual was found, well… except one thing. A fissure.
Almost all of us agreed that this fissure was where the pillar of light was coming through. However the fissure was not safe to approach. While the entire land we were on was flourishing from life, everything around the fissure was completely void of it. It was a dead zone, assumed deathly gasses were pouring out of the cracks as well, but some of our scanners also picked up strangely volatile magic.
A second team got back to us and they reported discovering some kind of ruins at the other side of the mountain down at its base. Since we had no luck atop, apart from the deadly fissure we found that a Krewe began studying for its gasses, the rest of us headed over to the ruins-like place. Once we arrived, the exploring Krewe found clues about the previous exploring Krewe that was assumedly lost. We found a few scraps of items that led us to this near-collapsed entrance.
It seemed like a narrow pathway, there were lanterns left to illuminate the way down to the depths. Unfortunately the Charr couldn’t fit so we were on our own to head down there. We found one of the members of the first Krewe, but they were long dead. We ventured further down until we reached a part where the whole cave system was branching out. While the initial entrance was very narrow and… small, the further we went into the larger the whole cave and pathway became.
Further down we followed the lanterns to find the possible remnants of the previous Krewe. We found another body laying around, they seemed to be dead for longer than a day, but no exact sign of what possibly killed them. Not much after, we bumped into a heavily reinforced door that was seemingly built by that Krewe. It was not a good sign for anyone. We found two of the previous Krewe members, both dead, then we walked into a reinforced door that was completely locked down via safety measures.
We took a small break to discuss our further actions, well our decision was clear, we wanted to enter, but we weren’t sure what to expect and how we should enter. We ended up disabling the built-in security system the door had, and as carefully one could possibly open that door, we… did so. What was behind was simply incredible. The entire place seemed like it was built by some unknown civilisation. Questions started to pour in when everything started to gently shake and the previous humming of the light was even more effective. I was frozen in fear, I felt like I was about to die there, as if death was inevitable at that very moment. Then it stopped again.
The place was a giant chamber with a lot of hallways and it also just straight away led to another main area that we entered. It was the source of the light, at least it seemed to be the case. The whole thing looked like a strange contraption floating in the middle of… nothing. It was as if everything was carved out around this device and it was slowly rotating around its own core. These aren’t exactly unusual sights, but the whole place? It made it look like we had never seen such before. It felt surreal. The whole core of the construct was simply so off and mysterious. It was simply crazy to look at it.
Who exactly built this? Was it even built? Where was it from? We knew it wasn’t Asura made, that was very obvious. We had so many questions and no answers to them yet. We found one of the previous Krewe’s members, she was alive, but very unresponsive to a lot of things. It seemed like she noticed us, she followed us with her gaze, but she never responded to anything, she didn’t talk or really move, her face was devoid of emotions as well.
There was another way to a different chamber, or rather, a different room with a door ajar. I nonchalantly walked there and entered and… there was another one of the lost Krewe members. He was afloat, in the air. I approached him slowly, it sounded like he was whispering in some cryptic language, I couldn’t understand a thing or a single sound. I didn’t dare to touch him, so I walked around him. He had a burnt face with scars all over it in a huge patch, parts of the scars were almost glowing, his eyes were… gone. I just didn’t know what was going on. I freaked out and left the room immediately. I don’t know if he was alive or what he was muttering at all.
I ran out and I felt like I’m getting sick. I wanted to throw up. I’ve seen things, but not the kind we saw there that day. We just found lifeless and possessed-like bodies of the lost Krewe and one single member of it who wasn’t even responsive to us. My Krewe set up our scanners we had, but nothing showed signs of anything we knew of. They were going haywire, but all the energy surrounding the place was unknown, out of place. It wasn’t arcane, it wasn’t elemental, it was genuinely closer to chaos by description, yet it wasn’t.
In another chamber others found a shield projector that the Krewe assumedly used. We connected the dots and quickly realized that this energy here is what boosted that simple shield generator to the point it was able to cover the whole landmass. Just as we were talking about it, the core of this… whole thing spun up and emitted a soft wave and began shooting up a beam of light. That there proved that it indeed was the source of the light and what came through that fissure at the top.
When the little energy wave happened one of the dead Krewe members began floating like the other one I encountered and it started whispering. It was not a good sign in any way and we were exposed to it as well, so we immediately left the place for now. We did not care, we ran and brought out the seemingly single survivor of that Krewe.Once we got out to the surface the Charr were still around, seemingly bored. We scanned ourselves, but we did not seem to absorb any of that energy, but the sole survivor was heavily exposed to it.
I don’t know what happened, or what the Krewe atop the mountain might have done, but there was an explosion within the mountain. A small earthquake happened for a moment. Then the pillar of light appeared once again, but now everything began to shake all around once again. The ground started to crack and both the weird light was coming through the cracks and strange flames were appearing between them. It looked like glass cracking very slowly, coming from the middle, from the mountain.
We grabbed all we had and began to run. The cracks were spreading like fire, everything got illuminated by the lights it had. The whole land was shaking, the pillar of light was pulsing continuously. Then suddenly the light went out and all the cracks started to… reverse? I wasn’t paying much attention to it, but in a glimpse among the chaos, it seemed like someone just reversed time and the cracks closed up.
I felt some relief in my panic, but then I once again felt like I could throw up and I stopped. I looked behind only to witness what changed our entire world. The top of the mountain exploded, the cracks almost instantaneously reappeared rushing through the landscape. I… I simply froze down in fear, I couldn’t move, but stare only at what was happening. The late evening sky just turned bright and somewhat green. I stared in disbelief as the cracks rushed beside me, opening up the ground.
I dropped everything I had, my arms went limp, my legs were shaking. For whatever reason, the whole event made me feel like it is the end of it all. One of the Charr ran back and grabbed me, picking me up and threw me onto her shoulder like a dead lifeless body. I just kept staring at that chaos that was erupting… literally. Then everything went black.
I opened my eyes and I was in the medical tent, I remember I had a very harsh headache and I felt dizzy. I got up and off the bed, but there was nobody inside. I walked out of the tent and… everyone was dead. But someone or something grabbed my hand, I looked behind and it was… it was that Krewe member I encountered with the burnt face. He was talking to me with that deep cracked voice, it was hard to understand. I was panicking, I wanted to jump away, at least I tried to, but he was holding me down.
“The world you know has begun to collapse. Worlds you have never known collided into each other. The death of one is the life of another. One is burdened by the consequences of actions made by the other.”
It was the only thing I remember as it stared at me. I had no idea what it was talking about, but I wanted to let go of it. But those sentences, those words, were burnt into my mind. I started to scream in fear as it started to pull on my arm. Then I felt a sharp slap on my face and everything went black again for a moment. Then I woke up, for real this time, in the medical tent. Apparently I was screaming when one of them grabbed my arm to check my vital signs and run a check-up on me. I was panting and sweating, I felt sick.
I asked how the others were doing and what happened after the explosion, but… everyone around me looked at me all dumbfounded and they told me nothing exploded, nobody knew of any explosion. I was told I fell unconscious when I encountered the scarred Krewe member. I felt very anxious all of a sudden. Everything from that point was just… a dream? A nightmare? When did I truly faint? The most frightening thoughts of losing reality hit me.
That was when my Krewe mate embraced me from behind. She was always gentle with me, a close friend who I could always trust. I simply asked, “Am I still dreaming?” which is when she just pinched my cheeks and I felt that sharp pain on my face. I was sure it was now all real. But everything before was so real to me.
I didn’t feel good about the whole situation, so I tried to warn the mission leader that the place is dangerous. The whole place felt like a ticking bomb, I just felt it in my body. The mission lead didn’t care much however, they will not retreat just because of some “hallucinations” I had. That very moment was irony itself. The whole land began to shake under our feet. I ran out of the command post, all of us just tried to comprehend what was going on. It was almost the same feeling that I had in my nightmare.
I yelled at them that we needed to pack up and leave immediately, but it was too late. The mountain began to erupt the same exact way I had dreamed. Like glass shattering, cracks running through the land as far one could see. It started to rain, the wind became chaotic and strong. The pillar of light shot up to the sky, pulsing and radiating brightly against the dark. It began pulsing more and more frequently. As I told, it felt like a ticking bomb, and so it was.
Moments later the top of the mountain shattered and exploded upward, but nothing fell back onto the ground. Everything that got blasted upwards was stuck afloat in the air. The pillar of light remained, pulsing from time to time. Fortunately, other than the quaking and the cracks in the ground wrecking our tents, stations and some of our equipment, nobody got injured.
The whole place looked like a disaster. This event shook the whole world, yet at that time we didn’t expect much. We took it as a local catastrophe, but it was far more than that. I couldn’t get what that vision told me out of my head. That very evening, I knew it was just the beginning of something far worse to come.
Unfortunately, I was right. Within less than a day afterward, strange disasters struck the world at random places. Reports day to day of disasters happening somewhere entirely randomly. earthquakes, storms, flooding, extreme weather, fire storms, ruptures appearing, underground labs collapsing, sinkholes under towns and villages. Some of the many disasters.
That place… that cursed place, where all chaos started. Did we trigger it, or was it all inevitable? I had to learn more, I wanted to know more. I left my Krewe to pursue knowledge that was beyond me. One of my mates quit as well and stayed with me to help me. I appreciated the help, but I tried to exclude her from danger.
I had to know what that vision meant, what happened, what that energy is and what can I do to reverse it all. I have to save my home.
