Jonathan is just like me fr, someone handing him a crucifix and being like “dear god don’t go tonight, tonight is the night where the terrors claw themselves up from hell through the earth’s crust and devour the unsuspecting” and he’s like “I just got this job I haven’t accrued enough sick time yet sorry”
It's funny, when I read this part of the story last year, I read it from the perspective of foreshadowing and growing dread: the sinister omens, the people refusing to speak about Dracula.
But this time I'm reading it more as a record of kindness. Of strangers going out of their way to help Jonathan, even as they fear for themselves.
I know it’s justified but it’s still so hilarious to think of the people in the carriage terrified for Jonathan and praying for his mortal soul because he’s with the Count, who is at that very moment cosplaying as his own driver and driving around and around in circles
Dastardly Gentlemen - Count Dracula and Count Dooku
It struck me that Dracula Daily starts on May 3 and Star Wars Day is on May 4, and since Christopher Lee played both Count Dracula and Count Dooku... Have some caped villain buddies!
Jonathan going on that coach even though he thinks he might potentially die is honestly so relatable because I would also rather die than cause an awkward situation with my employer
i love that jonathan spent today's entire entry worrying about the villagers' reactions to him going to the castle, talking about how uncomfortable he was and literally saying goodbye to mina in the entry just in case he dies, and then he ends the entry with "oh ! my coach ! :D"
If this book should ever reach Mina before I do, let it bring my good-bye.
I have to repent for ever saying that Jonathan was ignoring red flags. He's spent, what, 24 hours in Transylvania? And already our boy is fearing for his life.
