Art from my Sketchbook! (Warning in pictures 4,5)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I wanted to share something on here, since it's been a few months already.
I'm currently experimenting with the KNY art style with a few trolls characters. Specially, Poppy and Delta.
Delta's eyes are based off of Shinobu's, while Poppy's are based off of Mitsuri's (and eventually Nezuko's). | also drew Love Hashira Poppy again! Though, I'm thinking of whether or not I should redesign her hair.
I also did some drawings of Poppy, Viva, and Velvet. I was gonna draw more characters, but wanted to post the drawings already.
The last two are drawings of an AU that's based off of Starved Eggman (from the Sonic.EXE mod). It takes place in Trolls World Tour, and Poppy is in the place of Tails. And while it's not shown, Barb is supposed to be in the place of Eggman, while Delta is in Sonic's spot.
And for the last slide, the sketches shown aren't finished. But the context is that I couldn't decide whether or not Poppy loses a hand due to it being bit off by Debbie (Barb's pet), or have it cut off.

Floyd X Male!Country! Pop! Troll
Tumblr media
After coming back from the dead (a frightening experience to be honest,) while resting in Rhonda on the way to Pop Village, something sparkled in Floyd's peripheral vision. Glancing down, he looked at the ring on his hand. He smiled softly, thinking of the one who gave it to him.
"Woah, bro! That's some nice drip! Where'd you get it from?" Clay asked, flopping down next to the magenta haired Troll, catching the rest of the group's attention.
"I got it from someone special." Everyone ooh'ed seeing his light purple blush cover his cheeks and ears.Noticing where they were, he suddenly got a burst of energy. "Wait! We need to make a stop." Tiny Diamond yelped, as Floyd took a hard turn towards Lonesome Flats, aka the home of the Country Trolls.
As soon as they arrived at the entrance of Lonesome Flats, Floyd hopped out of Rhonda towards Delta Dawn's office, ignoring the calls of his brothers to slow down and wait.
He was actually stopped by the Sheriff herself, demanding to know where in the seven hells he'd been.
Floyd cut her off her, looking worried. "Where's (Y/N)?"
The Mayor raised a perfect eyebrow before gesturing to an (h/c) male Troll, wearing a flannel around his waist, blue jeans, and a big white hat resting next him who was sitting under a nearby tree, eyes focused on the journal in his lap, headphones over his ears, a grin on his lips.
Floyd smiled before walking over to the mysterious Troll. He sat next across from them, and took tapped his shoulder.
The Troll smiled looking up before freezing, eyes wide. He slowly took his headphones off, still wide eyed.
"Hey, beau."
"SUGARCUBE!" The other troll screamed, tackling Floyd into a great big hug, into the sun, before setting Floyd down, and moving quickly as he searched him for any injuries, while the sensitive Troll laughed, letting him fret over him.
"What is happening?" John Dory, asked the question they were all wondering.
Delta laughed softly, shaking her head, watching the two before turning to the group to talk to Poppy and Branch.
"(Y/N)...(Y/N)? Beau! I'm okay.....now. My brothers saved me." Floyd gestured to the group, holding (Y/N)'s hand, and leading him over to the others.
"Guys, this is (Y/N)....my fiance." Floyd smiled as (Y/N) waved shyly. For such an energetic Troll, he was still pretty shy.
"Your fiance?!" Everyone gasped looking at (Y/N), who upon closer inspection, was wearing a ring matching Floyd's.
"Yep! Now let me see if I remember whose who..."
----------------------------LINEBREAK------------------------------------
You and Floyd have been friends since he'd stumbled into Lonesome Flats.
You are the town's architect, and try to find new ways to make the town safe and functional for everyone, while leaving space for the town's weekly square dancing.
You are the mix of a country troll (Mama) and a pop Troll (Daddy) and strangely enough are one of the shyest Trolls in Lonesome Flats but everyone knows you and is super kind.
Lonesome Flats is the type of place where everyone knows everyone, so....
Floyd calls you Beau as a nickname bc your daddy ;) and you call him Sugarcube bc this dude has a serious sweet tooth and is incredibly sensitive.

Without you (Delta Dawn x John Dory 🧡💙)
Tumblr media
(ART/IG: @/ burntzbread) [note: hope you don't mind me using you art as reference, I'll take it down if you don't, it's sorta my inspiration while writing this TT]
(WARNING: English is not my first language)
The trolls in the Country Village, Lonesome Flats. Have known Mayor Delta and John Dory's relationship for a year now. No they weren't dating, they're just close, really close. But they can tell that they really like each other, it annoys them why neither one of them confesses yet.
Though not many country trolls really like John Dory. Cause first of all, he's a pop troll, some of his songs made them sick, he's too loud and even too touchy. Most of all, they worried that it might affect their beloved Mayor and Sheriff from his contagious pop troll nature, that'll affect their village as well.
So yeah, nobody really like nor accept John Dory living in Lonesome Flats... or so they thought.
One day, the rumour of John Dory leaving was spread throughout town. Some rejoices while some really misses him, since he has been a very kind and helpful pop troll to them.
Delta was aware that her friend was part of a band, which is his brothers. JD decided to pay his brothers for a visit, cause its almost been a year since the last time he saw them after saving Floyd. Which means that he has to leave from the country village for a week or 2, leaving everything behind here, that includes Delta.
"Are you gonna be okay while I'm gone?" The turquoise-haired troll asked and held her hand, while carrying both his belongings at his back and holding Rhonda's keys to his other palm. Worried about leaving her behind.
"Pfft! I'll be fine sweetie, you're being so dramatic. I'm a grown lady." The red haired lady scoffed. "You go spend time with your brother, you've already helped us long enough here. Go have a vacation to your real home, dear."
Even though she said that, JD knows that she's not gonna be. For the past few months he knew her. Delta may seem like she's a very tough fiesty mayor that kept everyone safe. He can tell that she's lonely, feeling the pressure of holding responsibility for everyone... much like himself for his family...
The man grabbed her warm hands, caressing in reassurance with an anxious expression on his face "Look, I promise... I'll visit as soon as I can to check on you and everyone... then, we'll go on a date! "
The lady snicker at his sudden silliness, breaking the heavy tension  between them. As expected from him, he always know how to cheer her up... that's what she loves about him....
"Hah, darling, I've already taken care of this village for the past what? 10 years? I can handle your disappearance for another 2 weeks, maybe even a year. And for the last time!  Im NOT going on a date with you! " She joked, giving him an evil smirk. Making him play along again, by acting like someone just stabbed his heart.
"Owww my lady that hurts." He giggled,  making Delta's heart felt a little lighter from joy.
JD turned around, about to enter into Rhonda, but then she saw him turn around,  hesitating to do something.
Before she could even respond,  she was caught by surprise when JD charged at her with a smirk. He suddenly lifted her up with a hug... like, man! He's so strong! (Or did he secretly work out for this moment hehe) After a few moments of embracing her, he placed her down. But little did Delta know that's not his only surprising gesture.  He rested his lips on her cheeks, embracing this moment he gets to have.
JD immediately run to Rhonda and shut the door before Delta could even hit him with her horse shoes. She blushed deep shades of red, very flustered of what he just did.
"Mr. JOHN DORY!  Don't expect a warm welcome once you've come back!  You're gonna be kissing my fist when you returned!" She yelled, actually out of embarrassment.
"Can't wait honey!" He winked, as he sped up Rhonda so she won't be able to chase him to the driver's seats windows.
And with that... JD just disappeared out of thin air. Like how it was before... it suddenly got... quiet . She thought,  holding the light pressure of JD's lips on her cheek. With a sad expression that everyone in Lonesome Flats noticed... she was missing him already...
Delta turned around and saw that everyone staring at her, "What are you guys doing?  Get back to work!"
She scolded,  that everyone got scared and immediately mind their own business.
TIMESKIP
After JDs disappearance. The country trolls went on their usual routine. That includes Delta Dawn's job as Mayor and Sheriff.
Of course it wasn't the same without John Dory. Hanging around with the guys while playing pop-country songs together with their guitar and helping her around while also cracking jokes to make it more fun.  She find it annoying back then, but she never would've thought she was starting to look for it. Now it was quiet, having lunch alone in her office.
When she came home, she saw Clamper looking a little down while doing her homework. It was an unusual sight,  since whenever she came home she immediately runs to JD to get some upsies,  while he plays along and playfully toss her to the air. Now she just gave her aunt a joyful smile and hug "Hey Aunt Delta, welcome home! "
"Hey my sweet baby, ya hungry?"
"Yes ma'am!" She exclaimed, wanting to light up the mood.
Days went on, work, stress here and there.  The usual routine of going to work, checking up the town, and going home to take care of her niece, repeat for the past week. Then it gets more busy that the country trolls started to notice more changes from Delta ever since the blue haired pop troll disappeared.
Before he came to their lives, Delta was already doing just fine, being a workaholic,  while singing songs in her free time about being "Born to Die" , her life feeling like a routine.
When  that pop troll came, the women who seems to be nothing but work become more and more lively.  They keep seeing her smile and even laugh, being more in the moment. That even her songs becomes a bit more lively. She's even more softer than her tough personality that everyone feared whenever she gets angry,  VERY angry with her temper...
Which is actually...  happening when he left. But worse.
"The Delta Dawn" before John Dory, was back . Not only was she back from being a workaholic, even her temper that everyone feared returned. Another few days has passed, especially when the Country Trolls became busy for an upcoming busy event, she's becoming more stressed and hot headed.
Everybody knows that Delta is just being leader, that she has to be tough for her people to listen, without any bad intention of hurting them. In fact everybody knows she's kind and sweet deep down. But her toughness can get scary that her workers won't be in peace when she is angry.
"Hey I told you to clean this area!"
"Why are the bathrooms sink not fixed yet?!"
"The thieves did what?! Where are they?!"
"I didn't waste the village's finances for it to be nothing! Where's the thing i asked for?!"
Eventually Delta realised her roughness towards her village for the past few days and apologises.
Though everyone was starting to worry about her, despite the fact she apologises. The red haired trolls aura is becoming more scary for them to approach their leader.
"Oh goodness!  Our dear Sheriff has been so stress lately!" A villager spoke,  trying to be quiet so she won't hear them.
"She really needs to rest. She's overexerting herself "
"I can't believe I'm saying this, where is that Pop dude she's always around with?!" A guy asked
"That weirdo?  He came home to visit his bros to the pop village. "
"Well dangitty-doodly! We really need this dude back here if we don't want her to explode at us, especially on tomorrow's very special day!"
And with that,  the country trolls are now starting to look for JD's presence. His their only hope for Delta to calm down.
The day came, everything is going really well with the event. The decorations are aesthetically decorated, music played softly and beautifully,  couples dancing around , giving flowers here and there whether they're friends,  family and lovers...  Yes, it's Valentine's Day.
Everyone is having a great time, Delta? She is, she recieve flowers from Clampers and from her villagers, thanking her for all the hardwork she has done, which made her feel a little better.
She wasn't suppose to go out for Valentine's Day,  she even made sure that everything's finish yesterday.  The lights, the heart shape sweets,  the roses and the music. Everything was done,  even her  own people doesn't mind her resting for this event. But as the Mayor, she was needed. She needs to do the speech of the opening event and gets called out whenever there's an emergency. Unfortunately for her, this year's Valentine's Day is torture for her.
TIMESKIP
It's late evening, the Sheriff finally lays down in her office's coach out of exhaustion.  Finally gets to get away from all of those romantic couples cuddling in public and also some quarrelling between lovers or friends. It was very exhausting.  Thankfully the day is finally over. Being Mayor and Sheriff is tiring,  but it was all worth it to see everyone having a great time.
She sigh, decided to get up and grab some wine that she received. Enjoying the peace and breeze of the night, admiring the lights of her village. She felt a hint of sadness in her chest, as she grabbed some roses, loving the scent, absent-mindedly pluck each petals and let some fall from her window.
"Why do you have to leave? ... in such a very special day... John Dory..." She whispered.  Finally admitting that she misses him. Secretly missing his company, his jokes, his romantic gestures, his cheesy romantic songs and even simply his comforting words whenever she felt the stress of being a leader.
Since when did she gets so attach to him? That life's never been the same without him.
"Why? Do you really wanted me to kiss your fist so badly?" She almost choke at the wine she drunk when she heard a very familiar voice that she haven't heard for 2 weeks.
He was not in her room, she looks around and then spotted a turquoise-haired troll at the side of her window, climbing at the walls with a wide teasing grin on his face that she knows too well. "Hey Ms. Mayor, looking like a hottie as always... Miss me?"
He flirted, internally laughing at her reaction. Though he can't help but lovingly admired her, even by just her presence. "But seriously Delta... you're looking beautiful as always... I miss you..."
She was stunned that she can't say anything but stare, when he finally came in through the window. The silence made John Dory a little scared. Is she mad that he returned late? Or from what he had done from the last time they saw each other?!
"Delta... I'm sorry, my brothers and I have a little bit of an issue back in Pop village and-"
He wasn't able to finish it, when he felt arms went around him, embracing him tightly. The red-haired troll hid her face through his chest, holding him close.
"I thought you weren't coming back..." She spoke up. John was stunned as realization hit him.
"What are you talking about? Of course I'm coming back, I promise didn't I? Not even in this special day... with my favorite lady here, I'm sorry im a bit late..." He was trying to get her to look up, but she doesn't want to,  but just glued herself to his chest, refusing to show her face of which he understood.
Instead, he just caresses the locks of her and returned her embrace, staying quiet for a few minutes and enjoying the peaceful silence they have together.
When they finally let go, Delta immediately wipe her tears and started to act like she never cried at all. JD just pretended that he never saw her puffy eyes and just smiled, that he finally gets to see her again.
"Here... Happy Valentine's day."  He grabbed a rose from the bouquet he was bringing, then pluck the stem along with its thorns, to place the lovely red rose to behind her ears. While giving her the rest of the bouquet.
With that,  they enjoyed the rest of the evening catching up, as they stargaze and loving the view of the village. Drinking some wine and sweets, with romantic country music playing outside.
The Sheriff felt all the heaviness in her chest was lifted and was refreshed by the peace, simply by having his partner by her side.
Yes, this is got to be her most favorite Valentine's Day night...
BONUS: The next day? Yep! The country village was overjoyed of JDs return, dramatically begging him to not leave, and shockingly even ask him to marry the red-haired troll. Which leave the pop troll REALLY confused of their sudden clinginess.
"Umm did I miss something?..."

Here's a fun idea you said that if he wanted to branch could make his own tribe. well what if he did, where do you think the tribe would live? I'm thinking something like the lash caves from minecraft because underground, and what if that was hundreds of years ago? What do you think folk trolls would evolve to look like? What about their culture? Would the leader position be passed down through bloodline or successes? What would their leader even be called? I feel like it has to be chief. Aaaahahahhah this ideas so funnnnn
Hi!
Sorry for late answer, I had a late shift at work, and that didn't leave me with much energy to do anything but have midnight dinner and then sleep XD
The thing about Branch, and his Folk String- yes, he could form his own Tribe and his own genre of music, but I am unsure if he would. Not at least while he travels, and while the events of the first and second movie are taking place.
First it comes down to the fact that he has no idea that the Strings exists and what they even are- and that knowledge would probably change somewhere around when World Tour happens. Even as he travels through the other territories, the topic of Strings just... doesn't come up, so he has no idea what power he holds in his hands (paws XD).
He also just still feels very connected to his own Tribe, no matter how badly they treated him. Especially after he realizes that Poppy actually missed him and was devastated to see him gone. (And sorry to say but my Branch will always be a bit of a simp for her, he is a lost cause in that)
BUT, all that said, entertaining the possibility of him forming his own Tribe...
Him straying underground once more would be very in character- especially as apparently Rock Trolls are subterranean people, in that most of their dwellings are underground and I do headcanon Branch as having a rock troll blood. So he would have never felt comfortable high in the trees like a full blood Pop Troll, but he also wouldnt want to be without any access to sunlight or plantlife.
The Lush Caves are a good idea certainly- and I raise you the possibility of their dwelling be more like the Hidden World from HTTYD XD
Not to the full fantastical extent as in the movies- but with the definition on whimsy and calm, some bioluminescence and giant crystals would be a great conversation piece XD
Chief being the title of the leader also fits- that, or more specifically Chieftain. Branch definitelly doesnt think of himself as coming from line of kings and queens (He is wrong about that in my headcanon buuut that's for another post XD), and so he would never think to use those titles. I think the position would be hereditary- but definitelly not going to the 'firstborn of the firstborn', but based on suitability. Culturaly, I think that would also be most familiar to any troll who who migrates from the large Tribes, where the leadership is definitelly a hereditary position (I think even Country Trolls, despite the Fandom calling Delta Dawn a mayor, do regard her as their queen).
Now for the fun part, the physical changes XD
Honestly that by itself requires a whole another post, since this need to encompass all of the Trolls tribe by tribe, but let me sum it up based on the Major Genres:
Pop: - Colourful little menaces as we know them from the movies XD - Largely arboreal- that means long tails that compensates for balance, and paws with retractable claws used for gripping onto tree bark - All trolls- apart from Classical and Techno- are in possession of fur, or (as one AO3 fanfic writer called it) in possession of 'flocking' XD - Pop Trolls grow thicker pelt in winter and shed it with the coming summer- but in general, it still grows rather fast for some so those trolls took to shaving it down to keep it need (Poppy is one such with unlucky ancient genes when it comes to that) - Before they evolved to use their Hair to the exten they do now, they largely counted on their own agility and ability to jump from branch to branch, and chipped away burrows into the trees - so powerful leg and arm muscles, and comparativelly amazing strenght for beings so small -They definitelly used to be taller than any non-funk trolls, slightly shorter than Biggie, but with the Pop String creation, their hair abilities and the selective survival of the smallest (after all, smaller trolls hid from Bergens' better), they've been getting on average shorter - They do have small hint of fangs, but are largely leaning towards non-meaty diet, though still very much omnivorous
Country: - Centaur-ish; I know movie depicted them with horse bodies, but I headcanon them more in the way unicorns are in old medieval illustrations, ie Artiodactyls - Long tail hair, almost as luscious as their own hair - Pointier ears, clear fangs on top of their large front teeth (since meat seems to be large part of their diet), but not really paws and claws; I would say they are the most carnivorous of all the trolls, raising livestock both for milk but specifically for meat - (diving into the territory of evolution, if they were hunters of prey, they probably chased them and kicked them to death XD) - All in all, not that different from how movie showed them
Classical: - More fairy-like/Hummingbird-like than in the movies - Definitelly still smaller and glittery, but with the idea their skin is not actually glitter like with Glitter Trolls, but either some kind of scale like feathers, or more durable version of the scales like butterflies have on their wings -Two pairs of wings instead of one, and definitelly beating faster to keep them up in the air - No tail- a rarity out of all the Trolls- and their hair is more like bird feathers/crest, in that it can puff up or lay flatter depending on situation - Most likely nectarivous and herbivorous? Making something like 'honey' from their farming efforts XD - The gemstone in their belly is an accessory and not something they all grow naturally- meant to show the troll is grown and ready to join the Orchestra XD
Techno: - Not much to change there- I just imagine their neon and digital looks came much later after decades/centuries being influenced by their string, they used look a little bit down to earth before that - Omnivorous, with crustaceans and molluscs making up for the majority of their animal protein- and probably necessary source of compound their bodies need to be bioluminescent
Rock: - Being looks wise the most similar to Pop Trolls, there was probably some speculation they both came from the very first same ancestor- before the Strings were created - Their flocking/fur is thinner and sleeker, and they don't grow a thick undercoat in winter, but similar to Pop trolls they have paws with claws- only theirs are not retractable - Their tail is also shorter and not as luscious in fur, used more for display than for balancing - Pointier ears for sure, more visible fangs; as mentioned, I think they are supposed to be subterranean? So most of their dwellings is underground- probably to avoid the volcanic ash on top- but I imagine living so close to the sea, they are largely focused on fishing (their angler ships suggests that they have no issue going underwater), probably hunting whatever critter lives in the cavern bellow, and maybe they are using the advantage of volcanic soil to grow some hardier crops? - Living underground with no direct sunlight for days probably gave them killer nightvision while their colours dulled to make hiding in the caves easier
That said, Branch is half and half. Despite his ear deformity, I would imagine they would always be a little pointier than on any other Pop Troll, and he cannot retract his claws (and thus took to filing them down to keep them blunt for safety sake- still sharp enough to help him climb, not sharp enough to hurt) Even if he grew up with his true colours, I'd imagine they would dull as he grew older, going vibrant only if he indulged in the poppiest of songs (or if he performed on stage) He has the tail and the luscious tail-hair of a Pop troll, but his flocking never grows a thick undercoat so he is almost always chilled to the bone in winter, forced to wear padded clothing to keep warm
With the Folk String coming from him, and representing him.... I imagine some of these things would change He'd grow hardier- more temperature tolerant at least- and similar to Rock Trolls, his night vision would grow better. Would any potential Folk Trolls change the same? Maybe? Perhaps more bioluminesce similar to that of Techno Trolls, while their general basic colouring grows more grounded- more into muted pastels and leaning towards greens/aquamarine tones
Culture is hard to pinpoint, as it would be evolving from various established cultures of all the other Major and Minor tribes; who knows what hodge podge it would end up as XD
My mind is full of various headcanons pft- ones that are blanket for all my AUs and ones that are just part of that one specific one- so be on lookout for more regarding that

You Are My Sunshine Chapter 8
Sunshine tried to wriggle herself free from the bird’s grasp, even attempting to pry its talons open with her hair. No matter what she did, it refused to let go. She hadn’t anticipated being unable to escape. She hadn’t thought this far ahead when she jumped in the way to save Branch and Poppy.
Unfortunately, that was beyond her control now.
“Drop that troll you dirty varmint,” she heard Delta Dawn shout. Looking back, she saw the Country mayor racing after her, her caretakers riding along with looks of pure panic on their faces.
Sunny couldn’t say she didn’t feel the same. “Poppy, Branch,” she yelled, reaching out to them, “Help me!”
“Hang on, Sunshine,” Poppy called back, trying to fling her hair out to catch the child, but she couldn’t get close enough. The bird seemed to pick up its pace at the same time Delta did.
A fresh wave of guilt washed over Sunshine as she looked into Branch’s eyes. That worried expression was her fault. She was the reason for all of the stress and turmoil he had just gone through. And apparently she wasn’t done torturing him.
“I’m sorry, Branch,” she cried, shutting her eyes tightly, “I’m sorry I ran away I’m sorry I was so disrespectful I’m sorry you have to put up with me I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry!”
“I-it’s okay, Sunshine,” Branch cried back, heartbroken that she was beating herself up in this situation. “Don’t worry, we’re coming!”
Memories started flooding his mind of her floating away in that bubble when she was a baby. Sure, he had caught her then, but what if he couldn’t make it to her this time? What if last time was just a fluke?
No, he couldn’t think like that. He’d saved her before; he could save her again.
“Uh, guys,” Delta said, “I don’t mean to complicate things further, but…” They were quickly approaching a sign that was hanging off of the needle of a cactus.
“END OF THE LINE”
The three trolls stopped just a few feet from the cliff’s edge. It was only a matter of time before the bird was completely unreachable.
“No no no no no,” Poppy panicked, grabbing Branch and shaking him violently, “It’s getting away! It’s getting away with our Sunshine! What to we do?!”
Branch hated to admit it, but he was at a loss. He never had quite mastered the Hair Lasso, no matter how many times he practiced. He could throw something at the bird, but he didn’t want to risk hitting Sunny.
Suddenly, Delta’s eyes lit up with an idea. “Why didn’t I think of this before,” she said, bringing two fingers to her mouth and letting out a loud whistle. “Clear a path y’all!”
In the distance, the sound of gnashing teeth could be heard, growing louder with each passing second. Before long, a little pig-tailed Country troll could be seen sprinting towards the group like a bullet, mowing down everything in her path.
“Sic ‘em, Clampers,” Delta shouted, pointing towards the bird just as it was flying over the edge of the cliff. The bird must have figured it was far enough out of reach to taunt its pursuers, turning smugly and letting out a sound similar to a proud chuckle.
Big mistake.
The second it locked eyes with Clampers, it knew it had messed up. It wasn’t given any time to escape before she leapt at it and sank her teeth into its foot. The bird screeched in pain, dropping the children before flying away.
Poppy quickly flung her hair out to catch them, Clampers grabbing it with one hand and both of Sunshine’s hands with the other. Delta Dawn held Poppy by the waist, her hooves digging into the ground to keep them all from plummeting over the edge.
“Ngghh, I can’t pull you both up,” Poppy grunted, “You’re too heavy!”
Branch watched in horror as Sunshine and Clampers held on for dear life. Clampers was surprisingly calm under the circumstances, but Sunshine was hyperventilating and shaking with fear.
Now was the time for him to act.
“Clampers,” he called, kneeling at the edge of the cliff, “Do you think you could swing Sunshine up here to me?”
Clampers looked down at the panicking trolling and nodded slowly. “I-I’ll try,” she said.
“Wait, Branch,” Sunshine retorted, shaking her head. She knew just as well as he did that there were too many ways that his plan could go wrong. She could let go too soon, or too late, or she could pull him off of the edge with her. “I’m scared.”
“I know, Sunny,” Branch said, looking into her eyes with all the paternal love he could muster, “I’m scared too. But I promise, I’m not going to let anything happen to you. I meant it when you were little, and I mean it now.”
Branch’s little speech seemed to have awakened a sense of bravery Sunny had hidden within her. She looked over to Poppy, who appeared to be stifling tears, either from the emotional weight of the matter, or from the literal weight of the children starting to hurt her (most likely the former). “I love you guys,” she said to them both.
Shaking off what was left of her fear, she glanced up at Clampers and stated, “Okay, I’m ready.”
The young Country troll began swinging the other back and forth, holding on as tight as she could. On the count of three, Sunshine released her grip on Clampers’ hand, the Country troll scrambling her way up Poppy’s hair the minute she let go. Flying through the air, she poised her palm to land safely in Branch’s outstretched hand…
…And immediately slipped right past it.
Poppy and Branch watched in stunned shock and disbelief as Sunshine fell, a scream escaping her throat that slowly faded as she disappeared from their view.
“SUNNY!” they screamed, both reaching out under the vain assumption that they could still save her.
“I’m going after her,” Poppy said, jumping over the edge.
Branch’s eyes widened at her declaration. “Wait, Poppy,” he said, grabbing her by the hair before she could meet the same grim fate.
“Let go Branch,” she protested, thrashing in his grip, “I have to save her!”
“You can’t, Poppy,” he replied; despite every fiber of his being wanting to do the same, he knew it was no use. “It’s too late.”
Poppy continued to argue fruitlessly with him as he pulled her up. Even when he got her back on solid ground, he still had to restrain her from running off of the cliff after Sunshine.
“Poppy, she’s gone,” he shouted, squeezing her shoulders tightly. He let out a quiet sob before repeating, “She’s gone.”
The usually jovial and upbeat pop queen collapsed into a sobbing heap in her boyfriend’s arms, tears raining down from his eyes as well. “My baby,” she wept. She had tried her darnedest to be the strong one during this adventure, but losing Sunshine for good was the straw that broke her.
Branch, of course, wasn’t in any better shape. He’d promised, he’d promised to protect the little troll, but he had let his guard down and let her slip away from him. He didn’t want to say goodbye; not like this.
As she was holding her niece in a relieved embrace, Delta Dawn glanced over at the crying trolls and felt a sharp pang of sympathy. Setting Clampers back down on the ground, she pulled a banjo out of her hair and began strumming a somber tune.
You are my sunshine
My only sunshine
You make me happy
When skies are gray
You’ll never know dear
How much I love you
Why’d you take my sunshine away
Sunshine didn’t know how long she’d been falling. Long enough to scare her out of her wits, that’s all she knew. It could have just been a few minutes, but to her it felt like an eternity.
Especially when she seemed to stop before she hit the ground.
The blur of scenery whizzing past her came to an abrupt halt, the sight of mesh taking its place. Confused, Sunshine looked around and found herself caught in some sort of net, similar to the ones Branch set up around the village to catch predators.
If it was anything like Branch’s traps, she wasn’t making it out of there on her own. She decided against calling for help for fear of attracting any troll-eating wildlife. From where the net was suspended, she spotted an area not too far away that looked like a makeshift campsite; a tent, an unlit campfire with a pot hanging over it, and a bag filled with various supplies leaning up against the tent.
A voice began drifting closer to where she was, singing with a soft drawl.
Oh give me a home
Where the puffalo roam
And the bulls and the tumbleweeds play
A teenage Country troll appeared out of the brush, carrying a basket filled over halfway with berries he had been foraging for.
Where seldom is heard
A discouraging word
And the skies are not cloudy all d-
He gasped when he saw the troll trapped in his net. “Uh, a little help,” Sunny said, waving awkwardly.
“Oh my stars,” he said, rushing to free her, “I am so sorry! This was meant for catchin’ critters, not young’uns!”
He carefully lowered the net to the ground and let it fall open around Sunshine. Despite being free from the trap, she didn’t move right away. She remained still, back turned toward the other troll and kneeling on her hands and knees in despair.
“Are you okay, June bug,” he asked, keeping a comforting distance between them just in case she needed space.
Sunny wanted to kick herself. She wanted to scream at her own reflection about how stupid she was. But most of all, she wanted Poppy and Branch. She wanted them to hold her, sing to her, and tell her everything would be okay again.
“Thank you,” she said, picking herself up off the ground, “Thank you for saving me. But I need to get back to Lonesome Flats. The Pop queen is there, and I need to let her know I’m okay. Can you help me, please?”
When she turned back to face him, he didn’t appear to have been listening to what she just said. He was staring at her in astonishment, muttering phrases under his breath like “No way,” and “Is it really…?”
“Why are you looking at me like that,” she asked, suddenly embarrassed, “Do I have something in my teeth? In my hair? On my face?”
The Country troll removed his ball cap and held it close to his chest as he replied, “The spittin’ image.”
Sunshine looked back at him quizzically. Where had she heard that before? That’s right; Delta had said that she was the “spittin’ image” of--
She gasped, fighting back the urge to cry again. “Are you…Rascal?”
The other troll had no such inhibitions as he pulled her into a hug, letting his tears fall over her shoulder. “As sure as I’m your big brother,” Rascal replied in between sobs. “I knew I’d find you someday. I knew you were still out there somewhere.”
As happy as she was to finally find one of her blood relatives, Sunshine still couldn’t shake the guilt off of her mind. She had to get back to Branch and Poppy. She had to let them know she was okay and that she loved them and that she was sorry for everything she had put them through.
“How did you survive that storm anyway,” Rascal asked.
“I was saved by Queen Poppy,” she replied, her voice wavering on her caretaker’s name, “I probably wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for her and Branch.”
She caught sight of a pink dot floating overhead. Even before its more detailed features could be seen, she immediately recognized it as Poppy’s balloon. “That’s them up there,” she yelled, pointing at the dot as she ran after it, jumping up and down and frantically calling their names. Rascal followed her, both to help and to ensure his little sister’s safety.
“Branch, Poppy,” Sunny shouted, “It’s me! I’m okay!” Try as she might, she couldn’t get their attention. Even with Rascal doing the same, they were too far apart to see or hear each other.
She dropped to her knees in despair once more as the balloon disappeared from view. She wasn’t going to give up, but she had no idea what to do from here.
She snapped back to attention when she heard a loud rustling coming from the brush nearby. “What was that,” she gasped, watching the vegetation tremble.
“Stay back, lil sis,” Rascal said, shielding her from whatever was hiding in there. Pulling a sharpened stick out of his bag, he added, “You don’t know what kinda stuff the critters out here are capable of.”
Sunshine kept a tight grip on her brother’s arm, growing more and more scared as the rustling became more intense. Rascal remained poised to fight, keeping a brave demeanor she hoped would rub off on her eventually.
The rustling finally reached its peak as the creature waiting inside popped out. Sunshine flinched, retreating further behind her brother, but the creature did not attack. She slowly opened one of her tightly shut eyes to peek at the creature, just in case it was trying to catch them by surprise. She ended up being halfway right as the would-be beast remained still in front of them, letting out a soft and familiar “mew.”
“Mr. Dinkles?”

Trolls x reader: Trolls reaction to their s/o telling them their gonna be parents. Please. Oh, and do you do Delta Dawn or Trollzart? Some don’t like to and I just wanted to be sure if you do.
Of course I can do Delta Dawn and Trollzart. I just haven't done them yet...until now.
DELTA DAWN
Guys and gals alike are able to have eggs, you knew that. You sometimes had given the thought about you or Delta having an egg together, but you two never had that discussion. You used protection, that was for sure......but maybe not enough.
"Oh my gosh." You said as you stared at the positive pregnancy test, tears forming in your eyes. You had been feeling out of it for the past month. Throwing up and getting weird cravings for certain kinds of food that you hadn't eaten in years(how the hell did you even remember the names of the dishes). You walked into the livingroom and sat down with the positive test still in your hands.
"Hey, (y/n). Is aunt Delta back yet?" Clampers ran up to you and asked. Since you weren't feeling well, you decided to stay home and insisted that Delta let Clampers hang out with you so you two could bond.
"Not yet, sugar. She'll be here soon, though." You said with a shaky breath and laid a hand on your stomach. How the hell were you gonna tell her?
"What's that thing?" Clampers pointed at the test. "I saw my mom looking at those things a bunch of times, but they only had one line on it. She and dad get really sad when they look at them."
"Oh...well...uh....I don't think I should be the one telling you about it then. You can ask your parents later tonight about it." You answered and patted her on top of the head. "Now why don't you go to your room for a bit and I'll let you know when your aunt gets back." You said.
"Okay." Clampers shrugged and went to her room.
"I'm back!" Delta announced as she walked in as soon as Clampers closed the door to her room. She looked around, confused. "Where's Clampers?" She asked you.
"I sent her to her room for a few minutes so I could talk with you." You said nervously.
"Talk? About what? Something wrong, love?" Delta sat down next to you.
"I've been feelin kinda off for the past month, so I uh," you showed Delta the test with two lines on it. "I took a test to see if that could be the reason, and as you can see I-"
"Is this for real? Or are you trying to prank me?" Delta took the test from you and looked at you in disbelief.
"Prank ya? You saw me puking! That was because of the morning sickness you goofbaURMF-" Delta cut you off again by smashing her lips against yours.
"I still almost can't believe it. I...you...we're...we're gonna be parents. I'm gonna be a mama." Delta hugged your stomach and gave you a bunch of kisses.
"Imma be a cousin?" Clampers asked.
"Now how long have you been standing over there?"
TROLLZART
You and Trollzart had been talking about it. You both had adopted a few children, but you were ready to have one of your own. You had already adopted two girls. One that played the triangle, and one that played the pennywhistle. You had played multiple different instruments in your lifetime, and you couldn't wait to teach your own bundle of joy how to play all the different kinds. And Trollzart was ecstatic to teach his future child how to conduct. Only problem was...the reason you two adopted in the first place was because you were having troubles conceiving. And once you did have an egg...the little one never hatched. It had been several years since you tried, and you were willing to give it another go. When you felt movement in your hair, you started crying out for your husband.
"What is it, my love? Are you alright?" Trollzart rushed to you.
"I'm better than alright, we did it." You said. You moved your hair out of the way to show the beautiful sparkling golden egg with curly purple hair at the top.
"Oh, beautiful." Trollzart gasped, holding your hands in his.
"We're keeping it in my hair this time. Its obvious that a nest isn't going to cut it." You said and covered the egg with your hair.
"Agreed." Trollzart couldn't stop the huge smile spreading across his face. "But we did it." He placed a kiss on your cheek. "I'm going to tell the kids the great news!" Trollzart said excitedly and went to find your other two angels.
Barb
She brought it up jokingly a few times. Especially when she was trying to sound seductive in bed. Neither of tou expected for you to each have an egg. Barb was an emotional train wreck the entire way through. She especially couldn't stop sobbing when you held your babies for the first time. You never saw her so overwhelmed with happiness.
Hickory.
He had gone on a trip with his brother back to their old home that they lost in an avalanche a long time ago. He didn't realize he left you with a little gift before he left. The trip was a long one to the place and back. It took him two months. By that time, your baby bump was starting to show and you were almost ready to lay the egg.
"Hey, gumdrop! I'm back. I hope ya didn't miss me too much." Hickory announced as he entered the house.
"I missed you more than you'll know, but next time, don't leave a surprise for me before you leave. It should be something we both get to enjoy." You yelled from the kitchen.
"A surprise? Whaddaya mean? Where are ya?" Hickory asked.
"In the kitchen! There's a bun in the oven!" You said. You put on your oven mitts and took out the large cinnamon bun and set it on the stove to cool.
"A bun...in the oven?" Hickory asked as he walked into the kitchen. "Are you saying what I think you're saying?" Hickory asked. You had you back towards him, now you turned to the side so he could see the baby bump. A huge smile spread across his face and he began tearing up.
"YEE-HAW!!!" Hickory cheered and spun you around in the air. "MY BEAUTIFUL SUNFLOWER YOU DID IT!!! WE'RE GONNA BE PARENTS!!!"
"Damn right we are! But next time, you're having the egg. Morning sickness sucks." You said.
"Next time!?! Of course! Anything for you, gumdrop." Hickory said and gave you several loving kisses.
God it took me a long time to type all that. I'll post a part 2 soon.

Harioween 2021 day 01- Mischief
Fill for @blooeyedtroll ‘s Hairoween prompt, crossposted at AO3 here.
Song reference, "Kiss an angel good morning" by Charlie Pride.
Headcanon - My brain can't make sense of where all the really highly processed stuff from really specific environments that aren't reasonably accessible to Trolls comes from so it went full kookoo and decided fantasy logic.
So The mines outside of Lonesome Flats is a spice mine, where they dig out huge hunks of capsaicin in the form of rhinestones from between the quilt like dirt. When it turns winter in the mountains, the river freezes upstream and turns to a trickle, and there's runoff from said mountain, leaving another kind of spice to be panned for. It's pumpkin spice season folks.
Fill under cut
Delta Dawn heaves a deep sigh as she gazes out into her namesake, hour early enough that there’s still a nip of cold set into the porch from the moon’s cool, sleepy gaze. The year has tipped forward again, through near miserable summer into something most folks might call tolerable. In the near dawn, it’s downright chilly, and she sits on her creaky old rocking chair, front hooves tapping lightly against the worn wood of her front porch and time soft shawl across her shoulders, some old thing her great granny had stolen from the mountain folk years ago, color long and lovingly faded into dark navy and a red just a few shades darker than mud. Long shadows stretch between buildings as the sun yawns, and she finds herself fallowing suit.
It’s quiet. But it’s acceptably so. Her fingers itch to pluck at her strings, but the town still sleeps while the cool will let them, and no respectable folk would suffer even her disturbance when the heat hasn't set in yet. Instead, she leans her head back against the rim of her chair and lets the gentle, rhythmic sway lullaby her into contentment.
There’s a beat there, in the downtap of every swing of her chair, in the sway of chimes from the rafters, in the little grumbles and occasional spiting of Miss Daisy Dukes as she clacks her knitting needles across the way on her own porch. Old woman sleeps on her porch, if she sleeps at all, and was never much for respectable otherwise. But there’s something there, and the Mayor chases it with a hum, breaking every now and again to wet her throat with the warm drink steaming gently on the little rough aside table she keeps besides her chair for just this occasion.
It hot and just on the right side of spice. As the cool settles into the desert nights and the cold snow settles into the mountains the river running right along their fair little settlement runs just almost dry, and the little ones spend their days panning for the rhinestone bright crystals they grind into spice. What they dig from the mines is hot and painful in the mouth after years baking in the sun, but the dark muddy nuggets from the river are bitter and musky with clove and cinnamon. Soon, very soon, the Prairie folk will flood the highways, running from the snow, with all sorts of goods and commerce, and Dawn will be able to sweeten her morning milk with a great dollop of baked pumpkin whisked up to a froth, a flavor she’ll tire of quickly, but enjoy the novelty of for the week or so it’s new.
But for now, she’ll enjoy the fruits of her little girl’s labors, the first round of hours of meticulously panning through near mud and tirelessly grinding rock hard spices in her little girl size pestle, a past time Delta Dawn herself partook as a child, and savored the once a year treat all the more for.
Quick as a whip, her hand shoots out and grasps the wrist of the little hand creeping up over the edge of her side table, making not for her drink, but for the still untouched slab of cornbread, frosted liberally with butter, on the little tin plate next to it. No doubt the smell of it baking was what woke the little terror, and Dawn cracks just enough of an eye to stare the child down.
An approximation of dressed, in the very same pair of dirty denim she’d been in before bed, but that was well enough when she’d just dirty a newer pair just as soon. Still in her night cap at least, which was a relief. She was just getting old enough to know better than to go out without her hair properly braided, and the tender headed rug rat had been putting up a fuss lately that her Auntie was in no mood for.
“Not for you.” Dawn puts down in her sternest voice, and the frown she gets in return lets her know it’s gonna be a fightin day. “Now go wash your face for breakfast.”
“Already did.”
“You most certainly did not, I can see the crust of your eyes from here.”
A grumble, a put upon sigh, and she waits one beat, two, before her hand shoots out again.
“Not,” and rather than grabbing, this times it’s punctuated with a swat “For you.”
Old Daisy cackles across the road instead of minding her own business, covering little Clamper’s growl, but get she goes, and Dawn lets herself fall back into the last scant moments of peace she’ll have in the day.
Her swattin hand does not give Clamper’s a third chance to listen when the girl gets her gumption up again for another try. Rather, the goodly Mayor smirks up the ceiling, and then meets that smirk to Old Daisy’s own at the sound of content chewing. Dawn take a slab of cornbread herself, warm from the oven and rich with butter and cinnamon, and hotter than the devil’s sweat with a thick spread of time soured chili paste hidden under the butter. Dawn’s own face immediately flushes with the heat and pungent vinegar, and she sees the very second her unsuspecting child realizes what she’s done to the treat.
Old Daisy joins her in a cackle far to loud for the morning hour as the little girl hops impotently and hollers through her nose, breathing fire and spitting mad for it. When the hollering goes just to the side of whimpers that Dawn knows means the heat is to much, she scoops up the mason jar of spiced Bugfaloo milk she’d hid in the shadow of her chair and pops the top, unbothered when the little one hops onto her front right knee with force set to bruise and lets her have the jar.
“You’d think you’d listen by now.” She coos as she let’s the girl drink and swish away the offensive burn. Delta Dawn waits until Clampers spits out a long stream of milk over the edge of the porch and keeps drinking before she eases off the nightcap and pulls a comb from where it was tucked up in her own massive mane, beginning the meticulous task of splitting the great mess into something resembling locks to braid.
“Wasn’t funny.” Comes the pettish reply.
“Was a little funny.” If only because she knew the little girl couldn’t help herself. Indeed if she’d gone and listened and washed her face, she would have found her own little pan of bread, dirty brown with her hard won spices and half a cup of sugared cream to dress it with, sitting warm on the stove.
Instead, petulant but passive, the little girl whines, but lays her head just above her Auntie’s bosom. The angle is awkward as she tries to wrangle the bright orange bristles her ward calls hair, but a great wave of matronly love washes over her anyways.
“I’ve always got a smiling face.” She starts, letting the little rhythmic something hiding in Old Daisy’s knitting needles bubble up as a tune. It’s just a little snip of a thing, not quite whole, but coming none the less. “Any time and anyplace. And anytime they ask me why, I just smile and say.”
She holds the note, tugs a pigtail as she ties it off until Clampers is looking at her.
“You’ve got to-” And with that, she smacks a kiss onto the part she’d created as she gathers the other half of marginally tamed hair. “Kiss an angel good morning.” There’s more to the tune she’s sure, but it’s all she needed to get a giggle and a spot of forgiveness for her trick.

Take a Break Sweetheart 🧡💚 [COMPLETED](Delta Dawn x John Dory)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(WARNING: ENGLISH is not my first language)
John Dory is Delta's bestfriend. Who's obviously hitting on her. But as time went on, they've become inseperable. Even after so many rejections, they somehow still get along, also despite being so different yet similar in some way. Though she can't see why. There's something about John that she felt a sense of comfort around him, where she can be herself around him.
Delta stared at his bestfriend, preparing coffee for the both of them as she continue on her work as Mayor in Lonesome Flats. The blue haired troll caught the lady staring at him, then gave him a soft flirty smile, causing her to scoff at his goofiness.
"What's with that look? Are you finally falling for me Ms. Mayor?" He gave her his most charming smile, that most Brozone fans will faint at the sight.
"In. your. dreams." She leaned in her palms, rolling her eyes as she looks away from the handsome troll. Though she admits, she can't deny that he has charming looks that can  make every girl swoon. Which almost got her too.
Ever since he came to the village, her exhaustion disappears simply by having his presence or company.
As he placed down the coffee, the red haired troll immediately stop writing all of her paperworks to take a little rest. She yawns, making John Dory look up noticing the fatigue of her eyes.
"Uuuh my dear Mayor,  how many hours did you sleep last night?" John Dory asked, narrowing his eyes. As she saw her shrug.
"Ummm, maybe 5, 3 or..." Delta mumbles as her voice gets very high pitch, clearly hiding something.
"Ms. Delta Dawn, did you sleep last night?" He asked again, getting her cornered.
"Uh... no?" She hesitantly answered, seeing his face ready to scold her, causing her to be a little angry about it. "Hey! Don't give me that look Mr! I'm the Mayor and Sheriff in Lonesome Flats! Don't expect me to just go around sleeping."
She scolded back,  as she took a sip of her coffee. Helping her ease her temper, by relieving her sleepiness.  The pop troll sigh, as expected from her best friend. Well that's what makes her hot anyway, her strong personality with a heart to look after her people is what also made him fall for her. But still...
"Look Delta you should really go to sleep, you haven't slept for 3 days now." He said worriedly.
"What? I did fall asleep, I took an occasional nap wherever and whenever I can." She argued back. "Plus I can't afford to rest right now. I have some fences to repair, some thieves to catch and also a niece to look after, to pick up from school and make dinner. "
John watch as Delta rub her head, stress showing on her face by just thinking of what she has to do for the following days. Becoming more worried that if she's even gonna make it through the entire day.
He sigh, took a deep breathe and whispered,  "You leave me no choice sweetheart."
He approached his beloved friend, walking behind her. She was confuse until he felt him slide his hands throughout her palms to her coffee mug to grab it, while his other hand grabbed her shoulder. Which made her heart jumped.
The women was used by her friend's touchiness, especially because pop trolls loves to hug every hour.
Both of them never really hug often. But John Dory enjoys physical touch, especially with fellow country trolls with his patting at the back, some high fives, handshakes and also some bro hugs. Both of them shared some physical touch too, with his hand kissed greetings, holding hands when he guides her to somewhere,  some back patting, also playing around with her hair to mess with her, tickles her so she can get annoyed to chase him around town and ocassional hugs too. She acts like she hated it, but she secretly likes it.
But this one's a little different, John Dory was too close, she felt her face burning by too much physical contact.  "What are you doing?!"
The women yelled. John Dory gave her his cocky grin, placing down the coffee and pulling her away from her desk preventing her to grab it. John Dory then lean in and place his head on her forehead, feeling her face's temperature. "Your face is heating up, you really need to rest now lady Sheriff."
"I'm heating up because you're too close, Mr. Idiot Detective!" She yelled, but receiving a smirk from him.
"Oh so you're telling me that you're falling for me Ms. Delta." He raised his eyebrows in flirtation,  causing Delta to lightly punched him.
"Stop messing around you idiot, I need to get back to work.  " She gets up, but realized her body is too weak to get up, falling back to the chair. She saw the man's face formed into an anxious expression, which somehow made her insides felt touched by his caring nature.
"Woah, easy there." She felt the blue haired troll, starting rubbing her head, massaging her all the way to her shoulders. She can't even protest, it made her feel good from all the exhaustion.  Then she sense that her chair was pulled to the coach. John Dory then lifted her all the way to the coach, laying her down, with pillows and blankets  being placed.
"John Dory... I can't-" She muttered, feeling her eyes drop when she sense the softness of the pillow, ready to fall asleep.
"Shhh..." He sat down, holding her hand. "You need to sleep, I promise I'll wake you up soon."
"B -but what about... the... village... the thieves... my niece?"
"I'll take care of them." He whispered.
"I swear.... John... Dory, if something... happens in this village.... I'll kick your bloody face." She threatened,  making John Dory internally gulped, yet she's still very  beautiful even when she's angry. Internally laughing at the thought.
"Don't worry, I got this m' lady."
She finally let's go and lose consciousness, sleeping peacefully.  John Dory watched his friend fall asleep, admiring her beauty, sighing in relief that she's finally resting. Hesitantly stroking her hair.
"You're so stubborn." He said to her, lovingly gazing at her. He didn't want to invade her personal space and wanting to respect that.  But he can't help it, he place her beautiful red hair aside and gave her forehead a quick peck. "I love you... Ms. grumpy lady,"
He giggled then got up and left, proceeded working on her desk. The scarlet haired woman was actually awake, feeling her heart screaming in joy from what he just say. She opened her eyes, and look at her beloved friend doing her work. She was a little worried of what's gonna happen, but she trusted him, cause she's known him for almost a year now, he's been helping her around the village. He's also been able to raise his brothers on his own and being able to work at the band, while managing finances in a young age.
"How did I get so lucky..." She thought.
"I love you too,  idiot..." She whispered, drifting off to sleep.

Because peeps on my dash are hooked on the Deltadi ship and have got me hooked too, here's a basic outline of how Delta Dawn and Dickory got together in the Gumdrop AU! It also calls back to my other Trolls headcanon posts so you might wanna read those before this one. Putting under the cut because this is looooong!
All his life, Dickory had been told that one day he’ll meet that special someone, he’ll experience certain feelings, of love and intimacy. But Dickory just...never felt it. He felt love for his family but romance? Sexual feelings? It never came to him. During his teenage years, he did feel like he was broken. He felt pressured to start his first relationship, telling himself feelings would come. It...did not end well. In fact, you could say it made him feel more broken than ever.
But then the avalanche happened. Due to the mass loss of yodellers, many of the young adults were pressured to marry and have children quickly to increase numbers and save their culture. In fact, it became a new tradition for yodellers to marry as soon as they turned 18. The only one to refuse this was an 18-year-old Dickory. He may have been shunned a little for his decision (which made him feel worse about his lack of sexuality) but he honestly didn’t have time to think about that anymore. His was still a kid who parents literally just died with a baby brother left behind to take care of. He had no time for marriage, he’d say to the other yodellers. His brother needed him and that is totally the only reason why he couldn’t marry. Throughout his life, Dickory would continue to feel stress and sadness, not knowing about being ace/aro and still believing there was something wrong with him. But at least he has Hickory and his new bounty hunting job to distract him.
Anyway, TWT happened and as soon as Delta found out that Hickory was really two trolls disguised as one country troll imposing on her beloved town, she had them arrested and put on community service for a unspecified amount of time. So she and Dickory did not have the best start in the slightest.
Hickory was soon made to do a report on Pop Trolls and left for Pop Village (and thus beginning his own romance with Poppy and Branch but that’s another story). Dickory was made to stay and do humiliating duties (like clean up after the livestock) while enduring the mockery of the locals and the ridiculously high heat. The only good/kind of less worse thing he saw in this was the fact that Delta’s niece, Clampers, was strangely drawn to him. She would nag and ask him questions about why he has two legs, what are those stumpy things on your hooves and can I bite them? Annoyed initially, he soon warmed up to her as she reminded him of Hickory when he was a child. Their friendship reached a point where they even started playing together. Delta witnessed this one day and maybe, just maybe, her heart may have melted. But only a little.
One day, after a restless sleep, Dickory decided to take a walk about town in the early hours of the morning. His was surprised when his keen ears picked up on a faint, mournful song from the cemetery. He found Delta singing with tears in her eyes to the grave of her sister. After awkward small talk, they both open up about the loved ones they've lost and how it changed them. They found their experiences to be remarkably similar (Delta lost her sister in a mining accident and was left to raise her daughter) and from that point on, they began to grow closer.
Over the next several weeks, Dickory began to actually care about the Lonesome Flats community and his service became a lot more voluntary and a lot less punishing. He would help the elderly, fix up anything that needed fixing, even learned how to herd up the livestock (although his first attempt was a complete hilarious disaster that Growley Pete just loves to tease him about). The locals soon began to think of him as one of their own and gained their respect, in turn gaining Delta's trust.
Delta and Dickory's friendship grew in that time too. In the beginning, she would order him to do certain task or else she would make him do something much more humiliating which used to tick him off. Now, she would ask him or else she would 'threaten' him to make him clean out Growley Pete's hooves, which he would respond with a sarcastic comment with a smile. They were pretty much very buddy-buddy. But the locals weren't blind to the underlying romantic tension between them.
Delta absolutely knew she was having romantic feelings for Dickory but she was at first hesitant. Country trolls are the type to take romance on head first and confidently but she was afraid of scaring him off so decided to bide her time for the right moment. Not exactly made easy when her parents totally shipped them and would try everything in their power to embarrass Delta enough into confessing.
Dickory, on the other hand, didn't know what to feel. Sure, he liked Delta now but she was just a good friend to have a drink and a laugh with, throw sarcastic comments at, arm wrestle with, share personal and past trauma history with, stare at and wish to touch her stupid big beautiful hair, want to hold close to-uh oh!
Suddenly it was like he was a teenager again but this time it was different. He liked her but it can't be THAT kind of love. It didn't exist for him, remember? He couldn't feel that love for anyone because he never did and it would never happen. She's a friend you care a lot about and that's it. Besides, even if there were feelings (which there weren't), it would be best if nothing happened because come on, she would never want someone who didn't like...well, y'know.
Basically, Dickory's in denial pretty hard.
Anyhow, the country trolls have a pretty big shindig one evening where there's plenty of dancing, laughing, drinking and fun. Both Delta and Dickory were having a great time but just as buddies, right?
However, at one point in the early hours of the morning, they found themselves alone together and Delta, in a drunken stupor with all logic thrown out the window, confesses and boldly kisses Dickory. And then she passed out.
In the days following, things were very awkward. Delta remembered the kiss and was horribly embarrassed for being so careless. She decided it was best if they actually sat down and talked about it like adults. Only problem? Dickory was now deliberately avoiding Delta. He didn't want to ruin the friendship they already had but he also didn't want to have the conversation he knew was inevitably coming.
Finally, a frustrated Delta decided to f this and confront Dickory head on. A huge argument blew up between them (which temporarily cleared out the town) which culminated to Delta demanding to know why he doesn't want to be with her and Dickory yells back 'BECAUSE I'M BROKEN, DAMMIT!'
Silence.
After the shock, the pair of them calm down enough for Delta to gently encourage him to explain further. Dickory shakily and tearfully admits his unresolved negative feelings about his asexuality, the yodellers pressure on him to marry, how much its affected him and how wrong he's truly felt all these years and yet he somehow has feelings for Delta that he doesn't understand and how he can't be the man she wants him to be or give her what she would ultimately want.
Shocked, Delta tells him that she's sorry she ever made him feel this way but she only wants Dickory to be himself and if being himself means that he can't give her certain things then that's okay because she loves him just as he is.
But Dickory, still confused, emotional and a stubborn old goat, decides this is the best time to run off and return home.
Heartbroken, Delta writes to Hickory that his community service is up and he is free to return to his home. She tries her best to continue her duties as mayor but everyone can tell she greatly misses Dickory.
When the brothers reunite back to their homes, they also try to move on as normal but both of them have a lot to think about in terms of the things they went through recently (again, Hickory had his own romantic shenanigans going on as well). One night, the two of them talk about what they went up to in the past weeks and realise that the other has experienced love and are too stubborn to admit it. They even have a big sibling argument about it. I mean whose dumb enough to not look past their own insecurities and see that they are loved and they love them back and they shouldn't let the past hold them down in finding happiness and - oh, I see what's happening here!
Anyway, its agreed upon that Hickory and Dickory should return to Lonesome Flats and Pop Village to confess their feelings to their respective loved ones and not see each other until they do or someone's ass is getting beat (y'know, normal sibling pact stuff).
So
In true spaghetti western style, Dickory returns to Lonesome Flats. He stares Delta down from one side of town to the other, locals watching with baited breath. He yells to Delta for the whole town to hear, that he was an idiot for running away and that he wasn't sure how they were going to figure things out in the future. But he's here now, he's not running away anymore and he loves her too.
Delta, without saying a word, storms up to Dickory, picks up up from under the arms and gives him a great, big, long overdue smooch to the cheers of the townsfolk and the cries of 'FINALLY' from her parents and niece (meanwhile, Growley Pete starts collecting bets).
Anyhow, Dickory moves to Lonesome Flats, eventually marries Delta, adopts Clampers as his niece, is fully content with being demiromtic/asexual, yada yada, happy ending, mwah! (I am a master of storytelling)
