Ok I swear I'm gonna shut up and go to be bed and attempt to be even a little normal about this, but fuckin...special bonus episode adapting one of the most popular issues in the series and one of the most important, that drops out of nowhere, with uneven story lengths reflecting the needs of the stories, and with one of the two stories animated so as to do it justice properly, like. I could literally fucking cry, it's so exactly the avant-garde broken formalism I so desperately hoped for out of this show, so much willingness to take risks for the sake of the story they’re telling. I'm so happy. They did both 'Dream of a Thousand Cats' and 'Calliope' such great justice.

I just realized, it's the 20th anniversary of The Network in general. Or it's about to be.

While Mew had other plural experiences throughout his whole childhood, The Network itself didn't start to solidify as an identity or organization until the first half of 2004, the second half of the 4th grade in the US for us. Mew was 9. We know this because we can look up online when people's worlds were coming out; that's when we would have gained them. And all the people that have been in here the longest - minus Mew - that's when we would have gained them. Any plural experiences before then, even when they overlapped, never got solidified into The Network as a social structure, organization, and identity.

So happy early 20th anniversary to our oldest members, and to The Network as a whole. May we have many, many more.

can you share a little bit about how you started playing dnd? i really want to find people to start playing a campaign with but i’m not sure where to begin.

so what happened was a friend asked me if i would want to watch some critical role with her because campaign 2 had just started, and i knew how much she loved it so i agreed. i really enjoyed it, and had a pretty good time, and not too long after that my other friend asked me if i wanted to join her dnd game that she was running. and i agreed because i thought it might be fun to try because critical role made it look pretty fun. and i wanted to roll dice.

it's been about 6 years since i officially joined that campaign. and we're still going! just played a session yesterday.

the way i joined dnd was really just sheer happenstance, because i had friends who wanted to play and i love being convinced to do things with people that don't involve me leaving my house.

i think roll20 had a thing where DMs would go searching for people to join their campaigns? not entirely sure how that works but i think you can try it out with a free account iirc. i think also adventuring leagues in game stores welcome new players too.

it's probably tough, i'm not gna lie. i got really lucky that i found a group who was willing to stick it out for this long. scheduling can definitely be tough sometimes (holidays are a nightmare. sometimes we go so long without playing!), and it definitely got harder the busier (older) we all got. but we've somehow made it work with 3 different time zones in 3 different countries.

i have also played in a couple other groups, though life has been getting in the way of them, so i really only have one dnd 5e campaign right now. here's hoping the other ones can return soon.

i think if you're not sure where to begin, maybe start by asking some friends who you think might be interested if they would want to play with you? this does mean you might have to DM. that's really what tends to happen. otherwise, maybe trying out some online games and meeting new people could work too! that's worked for some friends of mine. there are def a lot of videos i've watched that talk about this if you're curious too. like how to get started, and where to start, etc.

Actually you’re right though; especially with a small town like Little Hope? Chances are the factory just hasn’t been doing super well for a long while (I wonder if there is other info we could find in the game about the factory?? But I also heard the wiki isn’t super reliable so I wouldn’t know how much I could trust ahaha)

I’d love to go back and roam around the Clarke house before I can give a suggestion for adoption ages for Tanya, Dennis, and Anthony, but honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if Megan got adopted not too soon before everything went downhill with the family. Like maybe a few months or so before things went sour with the factory or maybe even a year or two? So I’m looking at around age 8-9 earliest being 7? The way I’m seeing it is: things were happy for a bit, the factory stuff happened, and the responsibility for Megan gets put on Anne and Anthony, with Tanya and Dennis both being busy with their job/football career. With Anne being preoccupied with trying to rope James back into the family and other chores, I think Anthony would wind up taking most of the responsibility of Megan and thus allow him to feel a little more bonded with Megan (There’s a post I wanted to write about their relationship and it’s reflection in one quote that Anthony says in one of the endings and something in the prologue but it’s currently in drafts).

I do want to say Tanya, Dennis, and Anthony most likely got adopted around the same time as each other since Anthony seems to be at least somewhat close to both of them as well, but as to what age they were? I’m not sure

Maybe I’ll get back to you on a specific age for the three of them! But in the meantime I’d love to hear your thoughts on what ages you think they would’ve been adopted (I wonder if there are photos you can search around for in the house...? If there were any at all?)
