Classic Disney cartoons - My Meme
A meme, a few months old, that I made so here I am to publish on the occasion of the 122nd birthday of Walt Disney, as well as on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Disney Studio as well as the 40th anniversary of the Disney Channel as well as on the occasion of next year as the 40th anniversary of Disney Afternoon and of course 90th anniversary of the first appearance of the best Disney character in the world.
Although I'm not a fan of Disney, especially not today, I'm still grateful that through those cartoons I entered the world of comics and fell in love with them, and that they gave me a good youth. Not only these cartoons, but others, but still a special place is occupied by these cartoons that gave the best that Disney had, that is, the focus of the real Disney, the classic Disney universe (Mickey Mouse / Donald Duck / Goofy / Chip and Dale universe). Certainly on classic shorts and classic Disney series from the beginning to the present day. Yes, I don't like Mickey Mouse Clubhouse as I consider it a degradation of the Mickey and Friends characters, but that's just my opinion. I should have also put Mickey Mouse Cartoons by Paul Rudish and Ducktales reboot, but unfortunately not everything would fit. The classic shorts, OG Ducktales, Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers, Darkwing Duck, Goof Troop, Quack Pack, House of Mouse, and The Legend of The Three Caballeros are certainly examples of great Disney series, at least for me. Although I would prefer to see some animated Disney series made along the lines of Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck comics, in the right ways. By the way, thanks Disney for this one!
However, this is my opinion and my meme, and this is just for good humor, so please don't be offended. If you like this meme, and these cartoons, feel free to like and reblog this. Happy anniversaries to Walt Disney, Disney Studio and Disney Afternoon!

Thinking about the summer along with Mickey and friends made me want to draw Mickey, Minnie, Millie, Melody, Morty, Ferdy, Donald, and Daisy together. This one inspired by the Enchanting Hut and Ku’u Lei Melody shorts.

If you're terribly curious which elements of Mickey Mouse are and are not entering the US public domain in approximately 24 hours, the following list may prove useful:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mickey_Mouse_(film_series)#List_of_films
It not only provides the year of publication of each individual classic Mickey Mouse short film (remember to add 96, not 95 – the 95th year after publication is the final year in which the film in question is still protected!), but also helpfully notes in which films specific elements of Mickey's design and supporting cast were introduced; e.g., first time wearing his signature gloves, first time speaking, first time Pluto is specifically depicted as Mickey's dog, etc.

An introductory guide to getting into Sonic the Hedgehog...
…if you're a grown-ass adult who is busy and doesn't want to play a bunch of video games but thinks the characters look sorta cool.
If you've ever been curious about Sonic as a series but haven't known where to start, I have some recommendations! I think Sonic is a cool and still somewhat unique thing because it takes cartoony characters (like a Mickey Mouse or Felix the Cat) and lets them jump around in cool action sequences through the lens of a shonen anime. It's colorful and usually pretty light-hearted, and I think the character designs are pretty iconic.
There's two handy places you can start without prior context, to see if it's something you'd be into...
Tumblr media
Getting Started: If You Wanna Read Something
The IDW Sonic Comics
There were years of different Sonic comics back in the '90s and early 2000's, but the franchise got a complete reboot and fresh start with IDW Publishing in 2018. If you're looking for the most straight-forward way to get into this world of characters, I think this is a great start. You don't need any prior knowledge whatsoever to crack open issue 1 and get started. All you need to know is "Sonic and his friends protect the world by fighting against an evil scientist named Dr. Eggman, who they just recently defeated after he briefly took over the world."
I love these comics and I feel that the writers and artists who work on it have a really good sense for this series. Reading issues 1 through 12 will get you the first major story arc. If you like it so far, I highly suggest reading up through issue 32, when another major story arc concludes. After that, the world's your oyster! Unlike the tangled web of Marvel or DC comics, IDW Sonic has a very simple and linear reading order. You pretty much just read the issues in order, and occasionally there are spinoff stories that are optional to read.
Tumblr media
Getting Started: If You Wanna Watch Something
Sonic Mania Adventures
Maybe comics aren't your thing and you want something even quicker. These are a series of animated shorts that are lovely. Conveniently, they've been compiled together by Sega into one little video right here.
It's a great intro to some of the main characters, and combines cartoon slapstick with some amazing action sequences.
There's also a nice little epilogue short.
Sonic CD's intro cutscene
If I had to pick a single 1-and-a-half minute clip to embody what I like about this series, it would be this very simple intro movie that plays before Sonic CD. Check it out!
Sonic Origins/Sonic Origins Plus Cutscenes
In 2022, Sega released a compilation of the classic Genesis games on modern consoles. In it, they added a few animated cutscenes. You can watch those cutscenes, plus the Sonic CD intro and the Sonic Mania Adventures episodes, all compiled into one handy Youtube video.
Taking The Next Step: If You Wanna Read Something
The Archie Sonic Comics
You might have heard that Sonic had a comic series published by Archie Comics from 1992 to 2016. This was a vast, overarching series that wrote an original story by weaving together ideas from the different Sonic cartoons and games. It went through several different writers, many different artists, and obviously spanned over multiple eras of pop culture.
It's pretty cool! The fact that it was so long-running, and the fact that Sega wasn't very strict with what the writers could do, led to a lot of buckwild lore, new characters, and plot developments. That said, it's also pretty bizarre, complicated, corny, and cringey at times. There is a stretch in the middle that is pretty infamous among fans.
You have a few options for jumping in.
Option A: You can start at the very beginning and read all of it. If you do this, it is going to be like a One Piece / Homestuck / etc. kind of undertaking, and you're going to be pushing through the good and the bad of huge genre and tone shifts. That's your call!
Option B: You can brush up on the main characters on a wiki and then start at Issue 160, when Ian Flynn (who now does a lot of work on IDW Sonic) became the lead writer. More specifically, you can jump in at the start of a new story arc by starting at Issue 175.
Option C: You can start at Issue 252, when there is a universe-altering event that essentially retcons all of the characters and plot threads from the previous writers and starts completely fresh. Easier to keep track of and you won't have to worry about all the previous plot and lore.
If you want something you can read in a single sitting, you should instead read Sonic: Mega Drive, a short-lived miniseries published by Archie that follows "Classic Sonic" characters (aka, the same vibe and art style of Sonic Origins, Sonic Mania Adventures, etc.) It's really great!
Taking The Next Step: If You Wanna Watch Something
Sonic the Hedgehog (OVA) aka "Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie" (1996)
This is, essentially, a 1-hour Sonic anime movie. You can watch it in Japanese or in English. I adore it. It makes up its own lore and continuity so you don't need to know anything before going in, besides generally knowing a one-sentence synopsis of who Sonic, Tails, and Dr. Robotnik are. It's action-packed, well-animated, and has great music. Enjoy! Sonic X If you're enjoying what you've seen so far, and you want something much, much longer...there's an official 78-episode anime adaptation of Sonic called Sonic X. It's an original story that loosely pulls together some ideas from a few of the games. It's mostly intended for a younger audience, but I hear if you watch it in the original uncut Japanese, it feels a little less "for kids."
Other Ways To Get Into Sonic
There's some great video essays on Youtube about the series!
Professional animator Dan Floyd did an in-depth video looking at the highs and lows of Sonic character animation in the games starting from Sonic 1 up through Sonic Forces.
Super Bunnyhop plays through the first level of a bunch of Sonic games to compare how the mechanics, physics, and level design feel throughout the games' history.
Liam Triforce has a great deep dive on the franchise's music.
You can play The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog, a murder-mystery-party themed visual novel put out by Sega. It's nice and short, so you can finish it in an afternoon.
If you haven't seen them already, you can check out the live-action/animated hybrid films Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 featuring Ben Schwartz and Jim Carrey, they're pretty good. That Sonic Prime cartoon that's currently on Netflix is pretty good too.
This may sound strange, but honestly you might enjoy poring over the sprite sheets from the old games. In particular, I really like the sprite animations from the GBA games, like Sonic Advance and Sonic Battle.
Sega is pretty lax about allowing noncommercial fan games, so there's at least a hundred different Sonic fan games out there by hobbyist developers. Check out the Sonic Amateur Games Expo and the Sonic Fan Games HQ.
You can watch LPs or cutscene compilations of the games on Youtube! If you watch Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, and Sonic Heroes, you'll get a crash course on most of the characters.
And finally, of course...you can play the games if you want to! There's a number of them that are available on Steam, Switch, Xbox, and Playstation if you don't have access to older consoles.
There's a lot of different angles to come at Sonic as a franchise, and lots of different entry points. Have fun!

hey bubs, dunno if your taking requests still but I was wondering if you could write dad!Max taking his kids to a theme park for the first time, maybe Disney?
Thank you in advance
Disney World Break (Max Verstappen x fem reader
Max insisted, like really insisted on taking the kids to Disney World, you were already in Miami and a flight to Orlando would be short forty-five minutes.
You, on the other hand, weren’t so thrilled about the idea of taking two four-year-old to a theme park, walking under the humid sun for hours, packed with people from all over the world who could recognize your very famous husband.
The twins, Luca and Mila, both carbon copies of their father, pleaded you to go during the entire flight from Azerbaijan to Florida, encouraged by their father.
“Max, they’re too young to go, they’ll last two hours, tops” You told him as the twins were sleeping, cuddling each other.
“We can take breaks or whatever, we’ll take one of those VIP tours so we can skip lines,” Max hummed at the feeling of your fingers threading through his hair while his head rested on your lap.
Something flashed as you looked at him, always acting like a child outside the track, maybe because he was trying to connect with his inner child, and it all made sense. “Baby, have you ever been to Disney World?”
Blue eyes made contact with yours, his hands finding their home on your thigh. “No, not in Orlando at least. Mum and dad took a Victoria and I to Disneyland in France, but I don’t remember much”
Those words were enough to make you close your eyes and take a deep breath, knowing both Max and you were going to regret this, but it was going to be another adventure for your books. “Ok, baby. We are going to Disney world. You better book that VIP shot soon, and of course we’re going to Magic Kingdom.”
Fast forward two days and you were on the entrance of the park, Max helping Luca to choose his first ears, all while carrying Mila on his arms and telling her to choose whatever she wanted.
“Those ears look really great on you, my love.” You knelt in front of your son, fixing his hair so it wouldn’t look messy.
Just as you were speaking with your private tour guide, Max walked next to you, placing his hand on your waist and gently squeezing it to catch your attention.
“Put them on, liefde.” Max placed a pair of classic Minnie ears, as he adjusted his own Mickey hat.
It seemed like you were not only in charge of your twins, somewhere along the way after riding the Jungle Cruise, your husband started taking Luca and Mila to every shop, money not being an issue as the twins overindulged in merch and sweets.
“What do you think about going to the teacups next?” Max asked Mila, who was on his shoulders.
“Daddy, I’m tired.” Mila complained.
The whispered I told you so didn’t pass unnoticed by Max, who playfully placed his hand very near your ass.
“Max! It’s full of children here, have some respect!” You laughed, placing a kiss on his chin, only to be interrupted.
“Eww! Mama and daddy don’t!” Luca said making a disgusted expression, only to be reprimanded by his sister.
“How about we head to the castle and take our family photo?” You suggested and Max agreed, asking the guide to walk you to the best picture spot.
The sun was glowing, the four of you wearing your ears. Mila was in front of you while Luca was in front of Max who placed a hand on his shoulder and another on your ass, giving it a light squeeze just as the photographer snapped the picture.
This wasn’t a vacation, though. Just after the fireworks exploded, you were on a SUV, full of Disney World bags including multiple t-shirts, dolls, Mickey Mouse replicas, a play set of Cinderella castle driving to the airport where the jet was already waiting for the four of you.
You laughed after noticing multiple Pandora jewelry bags full of Disney charms, bracelets and earrings, even if you insisted to Max that Mila would never wear them. Max didn’t care, whatever his princess wanted, whatever his princess would get.
Max and you were still wearing your ears, staring at Mila and Luca who were both sleeping between the two of you.
“So, what do you say to a week long Disney vacation when the season’s over?” Max proposed and you giggled.
“Only if you ride all the roller coasters with them while I eat my churro” You answered and Max laughed; his gorgeous cackle which made the corner of his eyes crinkle and his mouth form the most beautiful smile before leaning to leave a kiss on your lips, careful to not disturb the twins.

As per my tradition for Mickey's birthday, it's time for another tribute to a classic Mickey appearance, and there's no one quite more classic than his first released cartoon, Steamboat Willie. Not only does this year mark the short's 95th anniversary, but also the final year the short will be under copyright protection as next year the short, and the early version Mickey himself (along with Minnie and Pete) shall become public domain.
It's not just Disney lawyers worried about this massive change, long time mouse fans are worried about this too (I mean, after what's happened with Winnie-the-Pooh recently can you really blame us?). Obviously the more modern versions of Mickey are still under protection, but that won't stop a ton of content creators from trying to use the 1928 rendition of the mouse however they can (provided they can get around any trademarks Disney has placed) to produce stuff to cash-in on the shock value of Mickey doing non-Disney-approved things (again, see what happened to Pooh Bear).
Still, in the end, Mickey will still be okay overall. Disney isn't going to abandon their most popular character and face of the entire company (despite what many click-baity articles and Tiktoks would want you to believe), and even with the high amount of cheaply produced unauthorized Mickey projects on the way, there's bound to be at least a few diamonds in the rough that wish to pay proper tribute and respect towards the character.
The future of Mickey Mouse might seem a tad uncertain at the moment, but one thing I do know for sure is that no matter what, wether it be from Disney or somewhere else, there will always be a Mickey Mouse... And that's pretty damn cool.
Happy 95th Mickey. Here's to many more.

Download from Itch.io here.
You are encouraged to print or otherwise share these with as many people as possible!
Tumblr media
[ID: A single-page pamphlet titled, "Mickey Mouse is now in the Public Domain!", with "public domain" underlined and bolded for emphasis. The body of the flyer reads:
"The copy-rights for the animations “Steamboat Willie”, “The Gallopin Gaucho”, “Plane Crazy”, and several promotional posters for them have expired!
But what does this mean for you?
Let’s start with the shorter list:
What you cannot do:
Trick people into thinking the art you are selling of Mickey Mouse is official Disney merch, or sanctioned by Disney
Sell art of Mickey that includes *specific designs* still protected by Disney’s copyright
What you can do:
Share, edit, remix, remaster, and sell the original animations that are now in the Public Domain.
Sell digital, traditional, and written art that you have made of Mickey, Minnie, and Pete, with no permission required!
Add new colors and patterns to Mickey, Minnie, and Pete’s classic outfits, or design them brand new outfits altogether!
Create new stories with Mickey, Minnie, and Pete, as animations, movies, books, or comics, and sell them!
Some common misconceptions…
Some people think that you have to stick to the original designs to the letter, IE: keeping them black and white, not having gloves on Mickey, and not letting them talk – but this is just a misunderstanding of what the Public Domain is! You can design and use them in any way you want, as long as you aren’t using a *specific design* still protected by Disney’s copy-rights. They can have color outfits, gloves, and talk! They belong to all of us now! Have fun!"
Framing the flyer at the top right, middle left, and bottom right are three pictures of Mickey Mouse with red shorts, a tan face, brown shoes, and gold buttons, with a pink tongue when his mouth is open. In the first, at the title, he has his arms thrown into the air with joy. In the second, at the "what you can do" section, he is looking excitedly at something in front of him. In the last, at the "common misconceptions" section, he's wearing a black hat with a red stripe, posed with a smile as he looks at something in front of him. Each is posed to be facing the text, as though they are reacting to it with excitement. End ID.]
