This purple and golden tiara was first worn by Hafsa Sultan in the second episode of the first season of Magnificent Century. It can be seen again on Gülfem Hatun in the seventh episode of the third season. The tiara was further embellished for the fourth season and worn by Mihrünnisa Sultan in the twenty-first episode as well as by Nurbanu Sultan in the twenty-fourth episode.
Atike Sultan also wore the tiara in the final episode of Magnificent Century: Kösem.

Magnificent Century couples as Taylor Swift songs
Or I'm too cheap for Spotify premium and had to listen to shuffle while riding the train for two hours.
youtube
Renegade - Nurbanu & Selim
Selim is so broken and out of control before Nurbanu and she constantly puts him back together and gives him pep talks while also reaching higher together. But I also don't think she realized what she got herself into when she pursued him to be her ticket to the top.
youtube
Would've, Could've, Should've - Mahidevran & Süleyman
It captures pretty well how toxic their relationship was and how it and its consequences will haunt her forever. If only he had never chosen her as his concubine...
youtube
Paris - Mustafa & Mihrünnisa
For me it captures how much they are in love and how the doings in the capital become irrelevant when they are with each other.
youtube
Illicit Affairs - Nigar & Ibrahim
Okay, this one is kinda obvious and I don't think I need to explain it.
youtube
Dancing With Our Hands Tied - Bayezid & Huricihan
It reminds me of how no one really wanted them together, them sneaking around and still somehow making it work. The "But I had a bad feeling" hints towards their tragic end.

How would you have handled Mihrunnisa? Specifically in regards to her background and fate? Would you have made her a concubine or the daughter of someone besides Barbossa? I’ve notice they have almost every woman commit suicide in MC and MC:K. How would you have handled Mihrunnisa after Mustafa’s death? Do you think her suicide is the sensible method to send off her character?
Most of my thoughts on Mihrünnisa as a character are explained here.
As for her suicide, it definitely is one of a trend where the show tends to romanticise women being willing to sacrifice themselves for their men/family. Which to me comes off as gross and misogynistic.

This golden and turquoise tiara was first worn by Mahidevran Sultan in the ninth episode of the first season of Magnificent Century. It was worn again by Hürrem Sultan in the seventeenth episode of the same season. The tiara also very briefly appears on Gülfem Hatun in the ninth episode of the second season.
The tiara was altered by adding stones to its golden parts before it was used twice in the fourth season. First it was worn by Mihrünnisa Sultan in the nineteenth episode and then by Nurbanu Sultan in the twenty-fourth episode.

Does anyone remember in which episodes teenage/adult Nergisşah Sultan (daughter of Mustafa) appears in Magnificent Century?
I know she wore one of Hatice's and Huricihan's dresses and I want to check if they reused more on Nergisşah, which seems likely since she was a minor character compared to others.
EDIT: In case anyone cares, I have already found matches.
The pink with silver embroidery was, as previously mentioned, Hatice’s and then Huricihan’s before that.
The red coat with black fur was also previously worn by both of them.
The pink & purple dress she wears when she receives the news of her father’s death was previously Hatice’s. I don’t remember that one on Huricihan.
Unrealted to Nergisşah but did you know that one of the hats/headpieces was shared between Hatice, Mihrünnisa and then Nurbanu? Yeah, me neither. There is only a few episodes between Mihrünnisa and Nurbanu even. I think Nurbanu wears it the episode after Mihrünnisa kills herself.
I’m sure that I have also seen the other costumes before but I can’t pin point yet on whom.
The pink cloak with fur has some contenders for which it could be. Hatice definitely has one with the same color in the first season, but it is missing the fur. This could have been added later. I think Huricihan and Mihrimah wore something similar as well. I also think at least one of them also went on to be used in the spin-off. I will have to dig a bit deeper here.
The blue and black cloak also looks familiar but I have no idea who could have worn it before, except for the obvious Hatice or Huricihan.
The dark blue dress also looks familiar. It is kinda Sah’s style but I the matching one I found looked a bit different. In fact, Sah’s looked very similar to one of Mihrünnisa’s which I will have to check out again.
The blue headpiece she wears when traveling and at the funeral also looks familiar. It could be something Hatice has worn after Ibrahim’s death.

So the thing with Mihrünnisa, is that my perception of her and her role in the story is inseparable from who her father is and the implications of that. Barbarossa is, of course, the Admiral and the Commander of the navy. And as such he is both heavily involved in the military and conquering for the sake of imperial expansion, but he is also the man whose job it is to be responsible for kidnapping girls for the harem. We know that he is responsible for picking up Firuze and kidnapping and enslaving Nurbanu. He also is responsible for the whole Giulia Gonzaga incident. So this man kidnaps girls and terrorises the Mediterranean. Even though this was his job, by modern standards he would unequivocally be considered a war criminal.
So giving him a daughter was an interesting choice. As was deciding to make her the epic love of Mustafa’s life. The things that make her special and separates her from his other love interests are her strength, independence and fierce loyalty to him. All of which are inseparably tied up with her background as Barbarossa’s daughter. So the implication is what makes her special is the fact that she’s the daughter of the perpetrator of these crimes rather than one of his victims. Which comes off as tone deaf and problematic to me. It leans very heavily into the way in which the show tends to romanticise and glorify the military.
The other part of this is the way in which giving him a daughter separates Barbarossa from his crimes. We see him with Mihrünnisa. But we never see him present or involved in any of the scenes involving slaves or kidnapping. Even though we know he is involved in this. So it’s a lot easier to see him both as a loving father in his scenes with her and see him as a great and glorious military leader when he talks about how great it would be to keep expanding the empire. There’s no encouragement to realise how disturbing it is that the girls he kidnaps are the same age as his daughter. There show writers seemed to forget that this military conquest was the cause of atrocities and the destruction of lives and families. Instead these are compartmentalised in a way that makes him and the things he stand for look far better than they should.

I love your deconstruction of Kosem's character a lot. Btw, who are your favourite female characters in both the MC and MCK world?
Ah thank you so much! 🥰
Such sweet messages just make me still want to keep this blog running even though tumblr is dying and it feels so lonely here now.
I’m mostly a stanner of less powerfu/more underrated characters, Kösem is literally the only of most important SOW sultanas I truly stan in the shows.
MC: Mahidevran, Hatice, Fatma Sultan, Şah, Mihrünnisa, Defne, Gülfem, Firuze (ahahah) ,Mihrimah (more as character creation I love than character I have strong emotional bond with, not saying she’s a bad person though)
MCK: Kösem of course (all Kösems, but most of all Nurgül!Kösem) Handan, Hümaşah, Gevherhan, Telli Hümaşah, Gölge, Lalezar, both Ayşe Sultans, Şivekar
I like a lot more of course!
Out of big “5″,*unpopular opinion time* I really dislike Hürrem, she’s a fine character creation, but never spoke to me at any level & I personally find her annoying (and while I understand that/why she has her fans, I still find her vastly overrated tbh, I think without Meryem and her “meme expressions” she wouldn’t be as worshipped, as we can see how Vahide! Hürrem is treated by the fandom and it’s still very much the same character at the core) *end of unpopular opinion time*. I find Mihrimah and Nurbanu interesting&entertaining characters, Safiye was an iconic villain, and well... I really, absolutely hate MYK Turhan 😊.
