Troppo convinto. Non si fermò neppure a mangiare la guaiava. (Penso che chi va in…

[Music] Theodosii Spassov & Milcho Leviev – Raga Todor
In 1995, I was approached by the owner of MA Recordings (a kind man whose name I have since forgotten) to sell some of his CDs on consignment.  Among the releases was an album performed by Bulgarian pianist Milcho Leviev.  He had several releases on this imprint because he was living in Los Angeles at the time, and it is one of my…

Closing my night by digging my way through this wonderful box set from Pure Pleasure Records of Art Pepper’s 1980 stay at London’s Ronnie Scott Club. The seven (7!!!) LP’s that make up this box contain Art’s complete shows during his engagement at the club. The band is Art, Milcho Leviev, Tony Dumas, and Carl Burnnett. To say these guys were smoking is to do that term an injustice. Art was in top form, and his playing truly inspired his band mates. Parts of these four sets were originally released on two LP’s, “Blues For The Fisherman” and “True Blues” on the Mole Jazz label (good luck trying to find a copy of either, especially in mint condition). So getting these sets reissued in their entirety is a blessing. Mastered by Ray Staff and pressed at Palas, you know these albums are going to sound the best they can. If you care anything for jazz, you better get on the stick and contact @purepleasurerecords as to availability. I hear this box is starting to get low. This box comes with my highest recommendation. #lp #boxset #jazz #music #liverecording #artpepper #stereo #album #albumcover #record #recordcollector #recordcollection #analog #audio #vinyl #vinylcollection #highend #purepleasurerecords #audiophile #audiophilepressings (at Vermont) https://www.instagram.com/p/BsHH26PAEQx/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=7biy4x0icb0i

A post on Facebook by @purepleasurerecords today reminded me that I haven't pulled this superb box set out and given any of the seven (yep, there are 7 full records that make up this box set) records therein a spin in far too long. Given that I'm a huge Art Pepper fan, this oversight just had to be corrected. So I'm starting in reverse order with LP number seven and listening to Art, Milcho Leviev, Tony Dumas and Carl Burnett play tunes like "Goodbye," "In A Mellotone," and "Blues For The Fisherman." Some of this box set of Pepper and his group performing at the legendary Ronnie Scott's club in London back in June of 1980 were released at the time, the label they were released on (Mole) was not well distributed thus many Pepper fans never knew of this Music's existence until Pure Pleasure released this box set. So while it took 30+ years for the complete package to make its debut, it was more than worth the wait. Pepper was healthy and happy at the time of this engagement (something he wasn't always given his drug habit), so we get to hear prime Pepper in top form. The music was a mixture of Pepper originals and jazz standards. Pepper plays his normal alto sax for the most part, but switches to the clarinet for a rendition of the Ellington classic "In A Mellotone." The sound of this Pure Pleasure reissue (or original issue depending on ones point of view) and Pallas pressed vinyl is at the top of the heap, with flat silent surfaces and instruments that both fill a credible soundstage with tonally right sound. But what grabbed my attention the most was the announcement that this is Pure Pleasure's last pressing of this box, which means it's shortly to go OOP. You do not want that to happen before you grab a copy for yourself. Because if you miss it now, you'll both be kicking yourself for years to come and paying through the nose for used copies - so order your copy today and revel in some of the best Art Pepper you'll ever hear. This box comes with my highest recommendation. #LP #jazz #music #ArtPepper #boxset #analog #record #album #albumcover #stereo #vinyl #vinyladdict #vinylrecords #vinylcollector #vinylcollection #audio #audiophile #audiophilepressing
