Tropical North Queensland & Northern Great Barrier Reef day 2: Atherton Tablelands - Rainforests & Waterfalls of Devils Pool, Boulders Gorge, Josephine Falls, Millaa Millaa Falls, Curtain Fig Tree, and Lake Eacham. How come so many rainforests but not in the equal latitude of the west coast. There 2 critical elements for plants: water and heat. When they’re synchronised, rainforests flourish. When they’re desynchronised, it makes perfect wine regions. #athertontablelands #cairns #rainforests #tropical #waterfall #figtree #queensland #roadtrip (at Atherton Tableland) https://www.instagram.com/p/Ck5qx-5vVXZ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Millaa Millaa Falls
It's no secret I love a waterfall, but Millaa Millaa is up there as one of my favourites. This waterfall has become a bit of an icon, appearing in everything from advertising to music videos.

After our adventures on Hinchinbrook Island we made our way to Tully Gorge ( Jirrbal country) to finish some unfinished business... We wanted to explore the hidden steps that we had come across on our last trip to the gorge. We discovered the remains of an old town that had once been when the hydro station was being constructed. We went on the butterfly walk and spotted many more Ulysses.
Next, we had a stint in the Atherton tablelands driving through Mungalli (visiting the lovely dairy there overlooking QLD’s highest mountain, Mount Bartle Frere) Millaa Millaa, Malanda and Atherton. Such a beautiful part of the world with World Heritage Rainforest, many streams, rivers and waterfalls, beautiful farmland and quaint communities. We spent quite a bit of time around Lake Tinaroo and visited lots of swimming spots including Lake Eacham in Crater Lakes National Park. The lake has lovely turquoise water and a resident freshie! We also visited the curtain fig tree.
We drove through Mareeba, Kuranda and onto Cairns for fish and chips on the beach and a swim at the main waterfront precinct. We stopped in Dinden National Park (Djabugai country) on the way through, camped a night and went on a lovely bushwalk in the morning with sweeping views.

There is a waterfall in every dream. Cool and crystal clear, it falls gently on the sleeper, cleansing the mind and soothing the soul.
