@kinnickinnic_glass harvesting our Caribbean Amaranth!! We accidentally grew this beast out of our old compost pile. A squirrel must have pooped out the seeds or something because the only place I grew it last year was in the front yard. The ones I grew on purpose never got even half this size!! Its a cool demonstration of how rich a good compost pile really is. The pile also grew our best squash plant, a huge sunflower and a few tomato plants. It was a fun experiment to let it go instead of turning it to prevent things from sprouting. Planted a bush on either side of my gate today. They’re both #spirea, one is a #spireaneonflash and the other is #spireasuperstar. I got both of them from FleetFarm at 50% off, which I love. The little guy is the neon flash, and the squirrels got to it before I could plant it and it’s a bit broken at the base, so I hope it lives. The superstar should be fine. I had to dig out a mess of thick roots to plant that one though. There are so many damn roots in this yard, I can’t dig up any ground without encountering them. Since the fence is in, I now have concrete boundaries for my front flower beds, and was able to prep more ground for planting tonight! I’ll be doing the same on the other side of the yard, and eventually turning pretty much the whole yard into garden of some sort. Flower garden update. Most of my perennials came up, and I added a few in spots where something died. Two of the iris finally have flowers, and hopefully I get more than 1 peony bloom this year, though if I don’t I’m not too surprised since I put those peonies through a lot transplanting them. The pond is looking cute (it’s mostly just a bird bath) and I like the zinnias by it. Garden update! I have all my herbs and veggies in the ground. First bed has herbs, lettuce, carrots, and broccoli, then there’s a few kinds of peas. After that I have tomatoes with their marigold friends. On the other side of tomatoes are squash, then three potatoes plants and some beans. Then there’s a whole bed of beans (seeds planted this morning) with accompanying marigolds, then pumpkins in the last bed, not pictured.
