Jealous Eddie Strikes Again

I revisited 6x17 to check a scene for a different post I want to make and saw a glimpse of Jealous Eddie Diaz that I'd missed previously. The 118 is on their way to a call when Bobby mentions, "I'm glad to hear Lucy's doing well over at air support."

Buck asks, "Did she request to not come back?" And immediately the shot cuts to Eddie making this face at Buck. We can't make this stuff up. Even the way the show edits Buck and Eddie convinces me that Eddie gets jealous over Buck.

(edited to add: Sorry, my inability to create a high quality gif may detract from the pure outlandishness of Eddie’s unamused scowl we witness in the actual scene. lol)

It’s not coincidental that KR mentions Buck’s new couch will be in danger in the finale and now Kenny has said more than one person from the team may also find themselves in a dangerous situation. Those two things are super similar for it to just be a coincident, especially given how the couch metaphors supposed to be in play until Buck’s finale scene. So by process of elimination, we know it can’t be Ravi because he was seen with barely any scratches. It can’t be Hen because she’s married and lesbian. It can’t be Bobby because he’s married and that’s Buck’s dad. And we know, thanks to Oliver, it won’t be Lucy either. Now who else is left on their team to possibly find himself in a dangerous situation, that also has connections to Buck?? Someone who was missing in the large chunk of BTS we got for the finale??? Someone who’s very couch Buck himself fell asleep on in this season?!? The person who started and will now end the entire couch talk…EDDIE FUCKING DIAZ. Therefore Buddie is going canon, thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

An End Has a Start [1/1]

An episode coda for 7x04. Bucktommy with implied Buddie, rated T for language. Also on ao3.

You don't work for the city, any city, for long before you realize there's a lot of money changing hands. Money that possibly, even probably, shouldn't even be in the possession of the first pair of hands, never mind wherever it ends up. It's just part of the daily drag of poverty wage civil servants; watching men in tailored suits gamble with their jobs and lives and communities, rolling the dice on whether the local elementary really needs a pool when their own pockets are only triple lined.

All of which is to say: politicos gamble.

Firefighters gamble more.

And from the moment Lucy had clocked Tommy's new and sudden interest in hanging out off duty with the 118 she'd had opinions.

Opinions that used to make Tommy laugh, but now, actually – kinda don't.

“You're late,” she says. She's sitting with her elbows propped up on the canteen table, a plate of greasy fries and half eaten sandwich in front of her, and with a twenty dollar bill dangling loose from two fingers that he very studiously ignores.

Tommy makes a show of checking his watch as he drops into the seat opposite her.

“By – oh, one minute!” He reaches over to steal a fry, but she slaps his hand away. “Crosstown traffic.”

Lucy hums. “Still a minute later than Mr Military usually is. You were crosstown?”

“You my mother?” He hooks a fry from the edge of the plate. “Yeah, I was crosstown. I had basketball with Eddie today.”

“And that's all you've been up to?”

Tommy raises an eyebrow at her. Her eyes are glinting, her smile slyly fox-like. She's his best friend in this place and a walking fucking nightmare.

"He's got a girlfriend," he says for what feels like the hundredth time this week.

Lucy narrows her eyes and rips another bite from her sandwich.

"And? You had a girlfriend once."

Tommy concedes by nodding and swiping another fry from her plate.

"I did," he hums, letting his eyes go all glassy and wiping a fake tear from under his eye. "And she had a seven inch dick. I miss that girl."

Lucy rolls her eyes. "Besides the fucking point. So Diaz has a girlfriend so you think he's straight? This is bisexual erasure, Thomas."

Tommy doesn't think anything about Eddie, actually. It's not his place. Not when there's a girl with a pretty smile and nothing to say watching him leave night after night. Not when there's the faintest tang of beer still lingering at the corner of his mouth, the ghost of stubble against his lip, any thoughts at all struggling to surface from the sheer, thrilling oh of hearing your attention.

"If I could erase you, Donato, I would have done it years ago."

Lucy sticks her tongue out, crumbs and all, and he throws the half chewed fry in her smirking face.

"Buckley's single," she offers, chucking it straight back. "And kinda easy. In a cute way."

Tommy scoffs, but he must pause for a half breath too long first because Lucy's eyes go wider than he thinks he's ever seen them, the twenty fluttering from her fingers as she slams her hands down on the table between them.

“Buckley?! Christ.” She sits back, blowing her fringe off her forehead with an exaggerated huff. “Well damn. I'm not surprised, I guess.”

Tommy takes a deep breath. “I think – I think he was. So don't –.” Tell. God, he really thought those days were behind him.

“Who the fuck do you take me for?” Lucy asks, sitting back and crossing her arms over her chest.

Tommy offers her a sarcastically sympathetic head tilt. “Gee, I don't know. Someone who's been betting on whether I'd fuck his taken best friend?”

She rolls her eyes extravagantly. “Please. That's different. Diaz always looked at me like I'd crapped in his bed. Buck's sweet.”

Tommy reaches out and pockets the twenty. “If you say so. I'll take this as an apology shall I?”

Lucy's nose crinkles up in disgust. “Put it towards your medical bills when Diaz finds out you've touched his man, that's all I'm saying.”

Tommy narrowly avoids sticking his tongue out at her. “Believe it or not, we're actual grown adults. Eddie's not going to have a problem with it.”

Lucy laughs, and it must send bits of half masticated sandwich the wrong way because she launches into a coughing fit so violent Tommy sees a couple of the paramedics' heads pop up from their hiding places like so many meerkats with medical fetishes.

“Jesus Christ,” she moans once she's caught her breath. “Rather you than me.”

Tommy quite agrees, honestly, because he's had exactly thirty four seconds of Evan Buckley’s mouth and he's already not particularly inclined to share, but he waits for her to knock back a couple of gulps of Powerade because he's a good friend.

He thinks he's a good friend.

He wants to be.

“You think – you think he will have a problem with it?”

Lucy wipes her mouth with the back of her hand, and sighs.

“I think the 118 is – a different kind of place to what maybe we're used to, you know? When I first started there I thought it would be great, and it was, but I never – I never really got it. The family history.” She shakes her head. “Diaz wasn't even there then. And yet he was everywhere. ” She fixes Tommy with the same sharp, searching look he's used to seeing beside him in the air. “I don't think it's going to be good for you.”

I don't think Buck's going to be good for you, she doesn't say, but Tommy's been closeted longer than he's been out. He's learned to read between the lines. To know when to lean in. When to back away. When it's his lips or his mouth or his teeth or his fists he needs to be quick with.

Evan's aren't the first pair of pretty blue eyes he's ever seen go shocked and wet and desperate. And maybe Evan's ribcage is going to be far from the last he's felt still and shudder and expand under his hand. Maybe he's setting himself up for the inevitable fall of being first.

Maybe, in the most important ways, in the ways that matter, he isn't first at all.

But it's not his place to ask. And if he doesn't ask – well. He can't see that Eddie's ever going to tell.

And sometimes, hey. It's better to seek forgiveness than permission. Fake mouth static or no.

He pulls the twenty back from his pocket, and adds another on top. Just because he can. Because he wants.

Because he's a minute late, but damn. What a minute.

There’s a feeling beneath Buck’s skin. A sort of buzzing. It’s there when he wakes, and when he brushes his teeth. It’s there when he laces his boots and grabs the keys to the Jeep. It’s there when he walks into the fire station, and it intensifies a hundred fold when he spots Eddie leaning against the rail. 

And it would be so easy, Buck thinks, to pretend not to know what this feeling is. So easy to chalk it up to his anxiety, maybe, or a few too many cups of coffee. But it’d be silly, lying to himself like that. He knows what it is. He’d told Maddie as much, hadn’t he?

The feeling is love. 

Eddie turns and spots him, grins at him like it’s been more than ten hours since the last time they spoke, and the buzzing beneath Buck’s skin settles. The feeling is love, and the love is for Eddie, and Buck’s starting to realize that maybe it always has been. 

“You gonna stand there all day?” Eddie calls down to him, light and teasing in a way that Buck’s missed more than he ever could have predicted. 

Buck ducks his head and grins. “Three shifts back and you’re already bossing me around, Diaz. Seems kind of familiar.”

Eddie laughs, loud and free. “Maybe we can skip the grenade this time, huh, Buckley?”

The feeling, Buck thinks, is happiness too. Maybe that’s not the thing you’re supposed to be feeling a week after a breakup, but it’s impossible to deny the way it thrums through his veins. 

Buck’s happy. Maddie’s back, and Chimney’s back, and Eddie’s back, and Taylor’s gone, and Buck’s happy. There’s a part of him that’s still waiting for it all to come crashing down around him, but for once in his life, that part’s quiet enough to push down and away. 

He jogs off to the locker room and changes quickly, not wanting to waste a second of the precious time before their first call of the day. Sometimes it’s barely ten minutes, and sometimes it’s an hour, and before the team was back together, every one of those seconds had seemed interminable. Now, though, Buck just wants them to last. Forever, maybe, because this is the thing he was looking for all those years he wandered. 

Ravi throws an orange at him on his way up the stairs, which he catches. He raises an eyebrow, and Ravi just shrugs, so Buck hands the orange off to Eddie, who’s been, for unknown reasons, practically swallowing them whole the last few weeks. 

“Oh come on,” Ravi whines. 

Chimney snickers and pats him on the shoulder. “Told you he’d give it to Eddie,” he says with a grin, smacking his gum for effect. 

“But why?” Ravi groans. 

Eddie throws an arm around Buck’s shoulders tossing the orange repeatedly in the air with his free hand. “Because, Buck,” he says, soft and warm, “has my back.”

Ravi’s eyes widen a little, and Hen chokes on her coffee. Chimney throws back his head and laughs. 

“And isn’t that what we all want,” Lucy says with a smirk, glancing up from her magazine. 

And yeah, Buck thinks, it really is. 

He glances at Eddie, whose arm is still around his shoulder, and who’s already looking back. “Always do,” Buck says softly. 

Eddie holds up the orange for inspection. “Want to share?”

Buck nods.

“Don’t ruin your appetite!” Bobby yells from the kitchen. “There’s only two more minutes on this quiche.”

“Okay, Pops,” Buck calls back, going for sarcastic, but unable to keep the joy out of his voice. 

This is it, he thinks, as Eddie leads him to the table. His life. His home. Everything he’s been searching for. And after everything, after all the heartache and grief, they've made it. They’re finally starting over. He glances around at his team, his family, and the buzzing feeling returns. 

Yeah, that’s love.

“I might,” Lucy murmured, her eyes flicking down to Natalia’s lips for a moment. Natalia felt her heart skip a beat, wondering if Lucy was about to kiss her. But then Lucy was easing off, taking a step back and saying, “It’s your turn.”

Natalia was flustered, a blush darkening her cheeks as she tried to get her heartbeat under control. Dammit, why did Lucy have to have such an effect on her? She took her turn and missed, badly. She glared at Lucy who merely gave her an innocent look. “You did that on purpose.”

“Did what, sweetheart?” Lucy asked, tilting her head and regarding Natalia with a soft smirk.

“Made me miss!”

“And how did I do that?” Lucy said softly, once again coming closer. She backed Natalia against the pool table and smiled when Natalia swallowed roughly, tilting her head up to look at her.

“You made me nervous,” Natalia said, the words spoken softly between them.

“Aw, I’m sorry,” Lucy teased, unable to keep from looking down at Natalia’s lips again. “Do you want me to stop?” She asked, and this time the question was genuine. She would stop the second Natalia said the word.

Natalia bit her lip. “No. That’s not what I want.”

“Good,” Lucy grinned, shark-like. Her expression turned thoughtful. “Y’know, the last time I was in this bar playing pool, I ended up kissing Buck. We were actually standing exactly like this,” Lucy gestured between them, referring to the way Natalia was sat slightly on the pool table, her head tilted up towards Lucy.

Natalia stared at Lucy for a second, contemplating her next words. “Are you going to kiss me then?” The second she said the words Natalia’s face felt like it was on fire.

I'm super late but taking this opportunity to post something I just wrote down from the prosecutor Eddie and defence attorney Buck fic, enemies to lovers obviously, let me know if I should keep going with this (Jesus like I need a new wip I have no self control)

Eddie walked through the doors of his office in a rush, dumping his backpack down on his chair with a grunt as he quickly rounded the desk to grab to latest files in his in-tray.

He shook his head as he flipped through them loosely and leant against the front of his desk.

“Oh, you’re really going to absorb your caseload like that,” he looked up to see Lena poking her head through the open door and holding a cup of coffee in each hand.

He gave her a relieved sigh and walked over to meet her and take one of the coffees off her hands, feeling the tension immediately begin to ease from his shoulders as he took a long sip.

“I was just seeing how much was on the docket for this afternoon,” he said. “As much as I enjoy not having a big case–”

Lena snorted because she knew as much as anyone that he secretly enjoyed the big cases.

“Shut up,” he said, turning to walk back to the desk. “As much as I enjoy not having the stress and ridiculous hours of a big case,” he turned to give her a raised eyebrow as she nodded, accepting that would be the best she was going to get. “I do miss the chaos when we get stuck with a full afternoon of… misdemeanors at best.”

“Okay one,” Lena said, rolling her eyes. “They are not misdemeanors, and you know it. And two, at least the defense is usually out of their depth, straight out of college grads who just take the deals and roll onto the next ticket.”

It was Eddie’s turn to snort back at her in derision.

“Doesn’t sound like you’re advocating for fair representation,” he said.

“I’m just saying it’s easier when the defense isn’t a complete arrogant asshole,” she said.

“Don’t get too comfortable then,” Lucy said as she walked in, eyeing their coffees and throwing her hands up by her side.

“It’s on your desk don’t make that face at me,” Lena said, making Lucy smile and nod appreciatively.

“And what are you talking about?” Eddie asked, now taking up one of the files to take a closer look.

“It’s not PDs doing the rounds today, most of them have private reps,” she said. “You’ve got that plucky new guy, some up-and-comer from Pennsylvania. Started a few months ago at one-eighteen.”

Bobby Nash was a veteran defense attorney who had started his own firm, the one-eighteen, about ten years ago. They always seemed to pick up some of the best talent in the country.

Lena hummed with a nod. “Yeah, I saw him a few weeks ago at Smith v Johanson. He starts out slow, but it’s almost like he’s just working you out so he can take down your case at the most crucial moment. It was almost impressive, you know, for a money-hungry, morally questionable bloodsucker.”

Eddie laughed with them both, the rivalry between prosecution and defense was nothing new, and most of the time their jokes were just that, but underneath it there were often the seeds of unhealthy competition and hostilities.

“What’s his name again?” Lena asked, looking up to Lucy.

“Buckley,” she said.

He broaches the subject while he’s cooking, and Eddie and Christopher are playing Boggle at the kitchen table. Buck doesn’t really mind missing out on Boggle, because at some point, Eddie and Chris have kicked his ass and gloated about it in true Diaz fashion enough times that Buck has developed a near-Pavlovian negative association with the game. 

“You heard about Bobby wanting to ask Lucy to be interim captain,” Buck says. 

“I was there,” Eddie mumbles, squinting at the Boggle board. 

Yeah, Buck isn’t really all that concerned to be messing up his weird letter soup competition thing he has going on with Chris. 

“Lucy. Who joined the team in, like, March.”

“I do know who Lucy is,” Eddie says, scribbling a word on his notepad.

Happy Birthday actor Tommy Flanagan who turns 58 today.

Flanagan was born in Eaterhouse, Glasgow on July 3rd 1965, the former painter and decorator got into acting after a stint DJ'ing and a violent episode which left him with his distinctive scars, he was randomly attacked outside a Glasgow bar, slashed horribly and robbed.

His friend Robert Carlyle then persuaded him to join him with his theatre company, Raindog Theatre, but it was not an overnight success for either of them as Flannagan admitted in an interview neither of them ha “a pot to piss in” he remembers “touring the Highlands in this old blue Transit van, but it had a broken window. It was so freezing inside, one of us had to hold a piece of cardboard up to stop the wind coming in.”

Two years later, he, and almost every other actor in Scotland, appeared in Braveheart. But Flanagan stood out. Mel Gibson told him to come to America. A year later, the Scot did, but the journey west was more about being with his then wife Rachel, an American film producer. Rachel, was from San Diego and he followed her home.

Of course Tommy had appeared in a couple of things beforehand, the obligatory Taggart being the standout, but it was after the William Wallace romp that he got noticed, Rab C Nesbit, A Mugs Game and The Saint followed that, of The Saint, he confirms something I assumed for a few years "Val Kilmer is a prick”.

Tommy got roles in Face Off , The Game and Plunkett & Macleane before the excellent Ratcatcher, set in 1970’s Glasgow and written and directed by fellow Glaswegian Lynne Ramsay, Flanagan plays the main part’s Da, George Gillespie, if you haven’t seen it do so, it’s a great film. One person who agrees with me about Ratcatcher is actress Drew Barrymore, who had seen Tommy in the film and called him up and offered him a part, of the film Tommy admits “You get to have your ass kicked by Cameron Diaz, Lucy Liu and Drew Barrymore. What’s bad about that?” Who gave you the best ass-kicking? “That’d be Lucy.”

Among Tommy’s other films are Trauma, Smoking Aces and Sin City, he was making a steady living in Hollywood but it wasn’t until the part of Filip ‘Chibs’ Telford in Sons of Anarchy in 2008 that people started recognising him for his acting, rather than the glesga guy in the films with scar, he is also an occasional face in the spin off Mayans MC.

The series was an international hit. But Flanagan had mixed feelings about the role. His character was called Chibs, for a start. Flanagan didn’t miss the irony; he’d gone to Hollywood to forget the worst memories of Glasgow life and was playing the sort of creature who’d attacked him.

Flanagan admits to previously playing up to the hard man characters he portrays, but his wild days have been behind him since meeting Dina his second wife, they have been married for 12 years now and they have a daughter together.

Tommy has recently appeared in the TV series’, Westworld and Wu Assassins which are on Sky Atlantic and Netflix respectively. We also seen him in the movie There Are No Saints, teaming up with SOA co-star Ron Perlman and fellow Scot Brian Cox, I wasn’t impressed with the film, but if you like action and gore you might want to give it a go.

I have been more impressed with Tommy in the latest instalments of the Power Book series, where protagonist Tommy Egan heads for Chicago and pits his wits against Walter Flynn, played by Flanagan. The series can be viewed as a stand alone, or you can go back and watch the beginnings in Power, which ran from 2014 to 2020.

Tommy will be back with season two of the gangster saga which is premiering on September 1st. Tommy has two movie projects set for next year, Road Movie Casey and Mary and Sleeping Dogs.

Buck frowns as he watches Taylor approach Lucy and he has the thought, I should probably deal with that.

But then Eddie’s shifting closer in his peripheral vision and, well, he gets distracted.

“You doin’ okay?” Eddie asks softly when he looks back to him. He’s still covered in the remnants of the fire – soot on his brow, a thin sheen of dried sweat across his forehead – but he looks lighter than he has in weeks and something in Buck thrums at the sight of it.

“I should be asking you that,” he quips, just as soft, fist connecting with Eddie’s chest in a way that’s too gentle to even be considered a friendly punch. “First time out on the field in a while.”

Eddie huffs a laugh and he’s happy, Buck can tell. He’s pretty sure his own happiness shouldn’t be this tethered to Eddie but he’s also pretty sure Eddie’s been personally responsible for at least seventy-five percent of his happiness for about four years now.

“It felt good,” Eddie admits, almost shy like he’s embarrassed to want it when it’s all Buck has longed to hear from him for the past three months.

“Yeah, well. It felt good working with you again,” he says, eyes fixed on the strap of Eddie’s suspenders instead of his face. He can’t help glancing up at the last second though. “I sort of missed having my partner around.”

Eddie’s expression melts into some combination of understanding and affection that has Buck ducking his head to hide the blush quickly colouring his cheeks.

“Same,” he murmurs and Buck has the ridiculous urge to catch Eddie’s hand where it’s hanging by his side and just- not let go.

He doesn’t because at least some part of his brain is still functioning but once he has the thought it’s hard to shake it away

“Are you seriously okay though?” Eddie asks then and Buck finally drags his eyes back up to look at him properly. “I mean with Cap and everything. I know it was-“

Fucking terrifying?

One of Buck’s worst fears come to life?

Yeah.

“I’m okay,” he says, the slight wobble in his voice betraying him. Eddie’s mouth tilts in sympathy. “It’s- he’ll be okay.”

“Of course he will,” Eddie says because he loves Bobby too and Buck knows he’s just as worried even if he’s better at hiding it. “It’s Bobby.”

Buck nods, tries for a smile that becomes a little more real when Eddie returns it.

“You uh- when we’re finished up here, wanna come back to mine? Decompress?”

It’s what they’d usually do after a heavy call – when Buck couldn’t face going back to the loft alone, when Eddie would be quieter than usual in the back of the ladder truck – Buck would silently follow Eddie home. They’d have a beer neither of them would really drink and sit on the couch pressed shoulder to shoulder watching some dumb sitcom until the day finally felt like a memory instead of something they were both stuck reliving.

Buck’s been at the Diaz house more than his own loft in the past month but still, the urge to go, to claim back a little part of their routine that they’d lost twists longingly in his chest.

“Yeah,” he says, something like comfort burrowing beneath his skin. “Let’s do that.”

Eddie nods – resolute, content – and brushes his knuckles so quickly against Buck’s side Buck almost thinks he imagines it. “I’m gonna ask Hen for an update.”

Buck watches him go and knows, for the first time in a long time, that Eddie’s coming back.

Kaylo Crescendo's Court of Children

(This is a DIFFERENT Kaylo. Not the one from my Balan Wonderworld stories)

So, I had this idea in my head for a while now, and it involves Kaylo, and the idea of her having a court, since she's the ruler of a kingdom. This however is no ordinary court. This consists of various children from throughout the Multiverse. So, I'm gonna list them out here.

Rules of the Court:

Any Child that joins the court MUST be at or under 16 years old (it's the Court of CHILDREN. Not teens or adults.)

The only people that know about the Court HAVE to be close to said Child (parents, close friends, family) other than that it's a complete secret (at least from mortals)

All kids in the court must take the "Immortal Promise" (A special pinkie Promise like ritual that ensures that a child freezes in the aging process. They can not, and WILL not age, as long as they have this promise

KEEP IN MIND! The list isn't complete, and more names will be added, so don't be surprised if the list looks longer
