Unconventional Flowers Event - March Bonus
Dahlias for Holi ft. Nanami
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A/N: March bonus prompt for my Unconventional Flowers Event. I honestly was hoping for a very unique holiday and this got my attention in all the right ways. Requested by @sitarawrites. For more information on the Festival of Colors, visit Wikipedia.
Rating: E, fluffy
Pairing: Nanami x reader (Desi reader implied)
Word Count: 971
Tumblr media
People had been skeptical of your marriage to Nanami, wondering how you would ever blend your rich, individual backgrounds. For the two of you, it just meant more cultural holidays to celebrate together, and spoiling each other with a wider variety of food and sweets accompanying each one. You knew he’d adapt well, he’s proven that when you were dating, even though Indian festivals tended to be crowded and loud.
And you loved him for the way he kept up the rules that fell on your festival days. Vegetarian food only, and though he didn’t need to, he sat in the back while you offered your prayers, his hair damp because it was customary to always have your hair washed on festival days. The first piece of prasad which you offered to him with love after all the prayers and poojas were done, broken in half as he feeds it to you as well. It was bliss.
But the one festival Nanami refused to participate in was Holi. He had no qualms against the day in general, but rather, the way it was celebrated, by throwing colored water and powder onto others to celebrate the triumph of good over evil. You’d pouted because Holi also celebrated the love between Lord Krishna and his eternal love Radha, the most well-known romantic story in all of Hindu mythology. Not that he hadn’t given it a fair try. You’d told him to wear something old and casual but the man simply didn’t own anything that fell under those categories. He spluttered along gingerly at the fairgrounds while everyone played, his hair weighed down in his eyes by dyed water in shades of shocking pink, electric yellow, and robin’s egg blue.
He hated the wetness, the noise, and the fact that the dyes used in the water and powder didn’t rub off for days (seriously, what was in that stuff?). After his first one which had occurred back when you were both initially dating, he’d politely told you he would not be participating in the ones to come as he tried to rub off the darkening pink that had stained his face, neck, and ears. The color had only taken in more on his pale skin, making him look like he had a bad sunburn, something that Gojo and Yuji had been quick to point out while teasing him to no end.
So it became the rule that he would sit with you during the morning for prayers, and you went with your family and friends to the fairgrounds to celebrate the rest of the day by throwing color at each other. The first Holi after you got married though, you felt a small twinge of sadness that your husband would be absent for this affair but you hid it, pressing a kiss to his cheek before leaving.
When you arrive home, Nanami has laid down a towel trail from the door into the bathroom so that the color wouldn’t drip onto the carpet. You can’t help but appreciate his foresight on this; you loved Holi, but you certainly didn’t want to ruin the carpet. Under the hot spray, you let yourself wash off the colors that stuck to your body, watching them swirl into each other as they went down the drain. Honestly, it was only the pink that actually stuck, the rest of the colors washing off easily.  You step out, clean and fresh, and pad into the bedroom, to find Nanami sitting patiently on the bed with a cotton bag in his hands.
“Hey,” you say softly, tired from all the running around at the fairground and now the heat of the shower.
“Hey yourself.” He pats the space next to him. You oblige and sit next to him, the bed feeling soft and comforting after a long, energetic day.
“Did you have fun?” he gently rubs the top of your ear, now pink like a flamingo.
“Yeah. Missed you though.” You lace your fingers with his.
“I know. Your face said it all when you left.” He kisses your hair, now washed and dried, smelling fragrant. “I’m sorry it disappoints you so much. But I just can’t find a way to enjoy playing Holi.”
You turn to kiss his jaw. “It’s not like you didn’t try. And you were miserable the whole time. It’s ok. It’s just one festival.”
“True. But. Maybe you and I can play Holi in a different way? One that involves colors but none of the mess?”
You look at him curiously, wondering what he had in mind before he hands you the bag he was holding. You peek into it and see that it’s filled to the brim with dahlias, your favorite flower.
“Lay back.” You do as instructed, scooting up towards the pillows. Nanami dips his hand into the bag, picking up a pink flower.
“Pink, to symbolize kindness and beauty.” He begins to lay all the pink flowers from the bag across your body shoulder to shoulder, like a devotee worshiping a goddess, and the act causes a rush of love to zoom through you.
“Yellow, for cheer.” He places these across your chest and you hold still, not daring to move lest they fall off.
“Orange, for celebrations and goodness.” These go across your stomach which is now jittery like there are a million butterflies in it.
“Purple for respect and devotion.” The blooms are placed delicately along your legs and you feel giddy from the romance of it all.
You lay there, colors all over your body, which was the whole point of Holi in the first place. Nanami carefully makes his way back up to your face, giving you a tender kiss on the lips, his eyes full of love.
“Happy Holi y/n. I hope this makes up for it.”

I got bit by the writing bug and thought, “since Padme was senator of Naboo did somebody else take over being queen? Did Naboo have a regent?”
this lead to a rabbit hole of the Padme’s family and the extended Skywalker family.
this is what I have. The Skywalker side is more detailed and comes from several Legends comics while I got padme’s side off a site and didn’t check sources so excuse anything missing or wrong.
Shmi Skywalker❤️The Force=Anakin Skywalker
Shmi Skywalker❤️Clagg Lars
Owen Lars❤️Beru Whitesun
Ruwee Naberrie❤️Jobal Naberrie=Padme Naberrie and Sola Naberrie
Anakin Skywalker❤️Padme Naberrie=Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa
Luke Skywalker❤️Mara Jade=Ben Skywalker
Leia Organa❤️Han Solo=Jacen Organa-Solo, Jaina Organa-Solo and Anakin Organa-Solo
Sola Naberrie=Ryoo Naberrie and Pooja Naberrie
So. Take a look at this tree. Ya see anything odd about it? Is it odd that Leia, who hated Vader and saw him as Vader even after she knew he was her biological father and BLEW UP HER PLANET WITH HER PARENTS ON IT, and she named her kid after him?
Is it just me or does this strike anyone else’s as odd? Like, you have people to name a kid after. Why choose the one who she never even recognized as her family? Just a thought
Maybe have somebody from Naboo come by, tell Luke and Leia about Padme. Breha was Leia’s mom, her mother, the woman who raised her. But she admires Padme. She remembers her from when she was born. Does Luke know anything about Padme? That she was a queen and a senator? That he’s technically a prince?

Usha's tale
Lakshmi
It's Diwali today. Maa got me a beautiful blue-pink lehenga which also sports peacock feather designs on it. I look so pretty! I whisper at myself in the mirror, admiring the lehenga, my golden bangles and the small bindi on my forehead. Lakshmi pooja will begin in the next fifteen minutes. I hear my mother's bangles rustle as she arranges the pooja thali with diyas, sweets and laal tika. Papa is decorating the small mandir with flowers and my brother as usual is sitting on the sofa being utterly clueless about everything.
But I look so good. I feel like Radha from that Krishna cartoon on Cartoon Network. Blushing, I take one last look at myself before heading for pooja, my mind busy thinking about that cute Krishna cartoon I watch obsessively every weekend. Don't tell my mother, okay? I wrote a song for Krishna. Will you read?
Maa is reading Lakshmi stuti now. My brother is staring at the ladoo bowl. Papa is ringing the bell and I well -- I kept my eyes open all the time. I want to see Lakshmi enter my house. If I close my eyes, then I will miss her arrival. Who knows she might share ladoos with me from the thali?
My bangles jingle and somehow my dupatta gets stuck on the shiny stones. I look at the window pane to fix the dupatta and the bangles in case I jerk too hard and tear my pretty dupatta. That's when I see a mist form over my reflection. Rubbing my eyes, I squint to check if I was hallucinating or it really happened.
It was all real! The hazy mist cleared and with the reflection stood the Goddess of Wealth, Lakshmi. I knew her from that cartoon and a TV show after I secretly peeped behind a wall to catch a glimpse of the scene. Don't tell Maa that due to me trying to catch glimpse of the scene on TV, I got a sum wrong.
Dressed in a richly embroidered saree in shades of red and pink, the goddess stood right there in front. She had a beautiful smile which made me grin. She doesn't look as old as the badi didis who are working in an office. She appears the same age as me. I love her saree and say, "Hi, Lakshmi! Your saree is so beautiful." The goddess replies, "Thank you sakhi! Your dress looks lovely too. It even has peacock feathers, my favourite."
I am twenty now. As a very young girl, I thought of the goddess as my dear friend. She is nature, the ultimate wealth of this world, yours and mine. She is nurturing, loving and kind. For days, I felt low and my sparkle dimmed, she, my dear goddess turned friend stood by my side and she will always be.
Right sakhi??

Raghuvan, Teri raah nihaare
Chapter 9
Ram's head pounded as if someone hit a cricket ball on his forehead. The sunlight was unbearable, and the soft morning wind kissed his cheeks. He felt his bed under his palm, unable to open his large brown eyes. A bed, he thought. Who's bed? Babai wouldn't have taken him back. Was it Sita's bed? He peeked his eyes open, just to be met by the wooden window of his room. His own bed. How did he come here? Where was he last? Ram remembered leaving Sita's place, making his way to the liquor store. That's the place for people who have nowhere left to go. Someone must have dropped him by then. He must thank them.
His unconscious train of thoughts was interrupted by a loud cracking of laughter. Women, laughing. He sat up to see the door frame of his room wrapped in marigold. Did he miss something?
Ram peaked over the balcony railing to look down by the hall, only to find Adikavya's parents and Babai having tea. His heart fell. Was the marriage not broken? Running his hand through his hair, Ram made his way back in the room. The wind of the window brought the sweet noises from sita Mahal. Oh how dearly he missed being there. But the dreams and pleasures are only limited in this world. Ram sighed, as if the faraway walls of the palace would give him a glimpse of Sita.
Jangu appeared behind him, a tray with a cup of tea on it. "Sita came last night" Ram's hand stopped in the track. Before another second passed by, Ram placed the tray on the table and pulled jangu on a chair. "When? Where was I? Did she come to meet me? What was she doing here?"
"She came to talk to Babai. You were passed out in Adi Didi's storage room. Adi didi and sita must have talked for a while, because they both left when I brought you back home. Sita asked Babai to get you married to Adi Didi. Babai and adi Didi's family had a long talk before coming to the conclusion. It's your engagement tonight".
Ram had a hard time processing that. His pounding head felt heavier. "I was in Adikavya's storage room?" Ram looked at Jangu. The innocent face nodded. "I dragged you back home last night. You were out cold."
Ram slumped back in his chair. There it is, the inevitable moment. Jangu got up to leave, when he abruptly stopped in his tracks and looked back at Ram. "She is pretty, even at midnight, she looked so beautiful and different". Ram's heart hammered in his chest. He closed his eyes, gulping down all the emotions bottled in.
______________________________
It was like a swift rain. Everything at sita Mahal went back to how it was before Ram came. Though it did change a few things- the girls asked if Ram would come again, as they dearly missed his stories of abroad and Sita laughed more than usual. She's been so cheery, as if she was happy for the knot. But the close ones knew, that if Sita wouldn't laugh she wouldn't be able to put a dam on her tears.
The morning was not unlikely of any other ones. Sita would wake up, bathed, did Pooja, did a few house chores, got ready, and attended her guest for the evening. But when sita was busy getting ready for her guests that evening, someone knocked on her door.
Akhtar.
Despite sending him back, Akhtar returned again. Sita thought hard, why would Adikavya's college friend come to her place? But there was no point in anything now. And if someone saw him in Sita Mahal too, he'd lose his privileges too. Sita chuckled at herself. She kept her saree down, poking the safety pin in the diwan bed.
"Haala" Sita caught the attention of the young girl "show him the back entrance".
Haala was unsure how to feel. She knew well that a whore can't be a daughter in law, but Sita deserved it. Sita deserved Ram. Haala was sure about one thing though, that if Sita wouldn't have put a restriction on Ram, Ram would have eloped with Sita by now.
Akhtar saw the blank face of Haala. Wordlessly, he followed her.
Sita sat by the ganga, drinking from the canister. Akhtar clasped his hands close to himself.
"I-"
"Cut the crap" Sita's eyes didn't leave the silent waves reflecting sunlight.
"Why did you ask Babai to let them get married"
"I wanted his happiness"
"what about her?"
"she'll be happy too"
"how do you know?"
"why are you here" sita peered up.
"don't you deserve happiness?"
"I'd get it when life wants to bless me with it"
"it did and you placed it in an old man's hand" Akhtar sat down next to her.
Sita smiled.
"It's obvious how much Ram and you love each other"
"How are you even involved in this..love triangle?"
Akhtar chuckled "this is not a love triangle. Adikavya and Ram have nothing towards each other. And I do. And I know it won't be possible, so I'm asking you to at least let her have her part of happiness".
Sita intently stared at Akhtar. "Nothing can be done now" she muttered.
"Then there's that. If that's what the universe wants. But if there is at least a single chance that you and Ram can be together, you are going to regret it for your life. You will see his face in every man you encounter and no one will be enough like he was. You are going to think about him when you won't be thinking about anything, and you are going to find everything in the world that is even remotely close to him. His emotions, name, its meaning, his interests and his choices. The only thing you will lose from his choice will be only you".
Sita gaped at him, blankly, her heart sinking to the bottom of the river. The only noises audible was chatter at the back of her place and swooshes of ganga.
"And I know that because I already do it. I already regret not letting her know, not supporting her decisions and not being there carrying all the weight. Just thinking about it isn't enough, Sita."
The way Akhtar called her name sent chills up her spine. She couldn't take whatever he said, keeping her hand on the staircase to stabilize herself. Akhtar didn't care. If he ever got over blaming himself, he only has one more person to blame. He left in a motion, unseen and unfavorable to Sita.
Sita didn't sit in the court that night.

🥺 would you perhaps be okay with sharing the three…
Of course
Festival by sinking815
Naboo's Festival is a time to celebrate family, friends, the turn of the year and new beginnings. Padme wouldn't miss the chance to be home for anything in the galaxy… except for maybe her new secret husband. Or how the newlywed Skywalkers spend a rare holiday opportunity and realize some secrets aren't that easy to keep…
This one is mostly just fluff so far, but I've been enjoying it a lot. Found it last night while looking for fics that scratched the itch.
Uncle Ani by my beloved @keistance
Pooja and Ryoo Naberrie know that Anakin Skywalker is their uncle way before he comes out and says it. They love him, even when they cannot tell anyone of his true relation to their family. The Clone War is a brutal time, and it doesn't leave the children unscathed.
The ending is a fucking gutpunch. This fic inspired an au where Pooja sees Leia playing with Artoo and Threepio while attending a senatorial event on Alderaan and connects some dots. I am slowly working on it. Very slowly.
now i want my letters white again by @ozvezdja (also how did I only just now make the connection that you wrote one of my favorite fics???!!!)
This was no time for sadness. The war had ended; the darkness had lost. A new life was being born, right here and now, in the ashes of the old one. alternatively: after their relationship is made public, Anakin and Padmé try to re-discover their happy ending on Naboo
I've already recced this one before but it is seriously so good. RotS au where Anakin kills Palpatine and no one is doing okay. Just such a fun look at Skywalker-Naberrie insanity from an outside pov.
And as an added bonus, have an angst chaser
Midnight Thunderstorms by Artikka
"If you want to help me," Padmé says, leaning her head back against the cushions of the couch and closing her eyes, "then stop interrogating me about my dead husband." Sola freezes. "Your what?" * Or, the night the Empire rises, Sola's sister finally comes back to her.

Under the Moonlight - Sequel to His Idol (Arulmozhi x Vanathi fic) Ft.Kundavai x Vanthiyathevan
Dedicating this to everyone in my PS writing taglist who enjoyed reading the previous fic and especially requested this next part. Love you all 💜
"Can Kamsa Mama refuse when Maya Kannan Himself asks?" Vanthiyathevan grinned at the Kodumbalur Ilavarasi, watching her grow more excited by the minute.
"So you will distract my Akka while I meet Ponniyin Selvare?" Vanathi asked once more, just to confirm.
Vanthiyathevan sighed," You are asking me to spend some alone time with my Ilavarasi. Did you really think I was going to say no?"
Vanathi was already out of earshot before he finished, whispering a quick thank you. Vanthiyathevan shaked his head in amusement. Although he had a soft corner for Poonguzhali in Arulmozhi's love triangle, he couldn't help but be won over by Vanathi's innocence and sincerity.
------------------------------------
Kundavai only relaxed when she reached her chambers after the Pooja at Durgai temple. Everything has been going just as she had planned. Everyone was happy. For a brief second she wondered about her Thambi and her Uyir Thozi. They were glancing at each other and whispering all through the Pooja. And she had never seen Arulmozhi so happy and Vanathi so flustered before. Did that meant they were actually coming close to each other just as she hoped? She sighed again. Oh! Kali Amma, let no one lay an evil eye over them. But where was Vanathi? The person who everyone calls her shadow has been missing since the Pooja. Where has she gone?
"I'll be glad if I'm the subject of your deep thinking Devi"
"Vanthiyatheva" She didn't try to hide the excitement in her tone and little did she knew the way his heart skipped a beat when he heard her say his name. " How come you are here?"
"We barely had time to meet before you were whisked away for the Pooja so I thought I'd come see you now. I heard you asking Ilavarase about our Eelam Expedition. I'd happy to tell you about our journey".
Kundavai loved to hear stories and for that moment she decided she would look for Vanathi later and entertain this versatile traveller now.
" Do come and tell me all about your adventure"
Halfway through the narration Kundavai began to be impatient. She felt Vanthiyathevan was unnecessarily prolonging the story by focusing on the minute details and characters.
"What happened next? You are elongating this too much. I have to go search for Vanathi after this" She said, exasperated.
"You don't have to worry about her Devi. She is in safe hands" Vanthiyathevan shrugged, thinking how to stretch his narration more.
He nearly missed Kundavai staring at him. "How are so sure that she is safe?"
"Ummmm" He cursed himself for the slip of tongue and tried racking his brain for a good enough excuse "That's not the point Devi, has anyone told you how much of a patient listener you are?" He settled for a compliment knowing fully well Kundavai isn't one to fall for praises so easily.
"You are the one who is deviating from the topic. Do you know something I don't?" Kundavai stared at him harder.
"How can I hide something in my heart when it is in your hands Devi?" Vanthiyathevan grinned widely. He loved to rile up his Ilavarasi.
'This man and his way with words' Kundavai wondered.
" How many ladies have you told this line to? " Although Kundavai's remark did caught him offhand, he wondered what she saw him as- just a teasing fellow or something more?
"Contrary to what you believe Ilavarasi, I do not encourage the feelings of those I do not have interest in. I am a devotee of beauty. That's all" Kundavai sensed his tone grow serious and wondered what she said wrong.
"What do you mean?"
" I have met many women during my travels. I've had marriage proposals presented to me. But no one has stayed in my mind for not more than a second thought. Would you like to know why? "
"Why?"
"Because I realised I have strong feelings for a certain someone right here in Chola Kingdom"
That was a shock to Kundavai. Vallavaraiyan Vanthiyathevan - who even compliments the servant girls and soldiers on a daily basis, falling in love? But Kundavai realised that was not what was bothering her. What was bothering her was that she never imagined Vanthiyathevan to fall in love and get married. At least not to anyone else. Her growing feelings for the Vana clan prince was a secret she had kept from everyone, even from Vanathi although she had an inkling the Kodumbalur Ilavarasi guessed it somehow.
"Is she beautiful?" She couldn't help but ask as something bitter welled up inside her. What was it- Sadness? Anger? Jealousy?
" Not only is she beautiful but she is also witty, intelligent and independent that I was sure she was going to kick me out when I first tired to charm her. But fortunately for me she seemed amused"
A few names and faces flashed across Kundavai's mind. Nandini? No, he knows better than to court Pazhavur Ilayarani and his best friend's former lover. Vanathi? No, of course not. Or is it the boat girl Poonguzhali that she had heard him mention a couple of times?
"Are you trying to guess the person, devi?"
She looked at Vanthiyathevan who had a amused smile plastered on his face.
" No of course not. I was thinking about something else. But, just out of curiosity, how did you meet? " Now it was a challenge for her. She had to know who this lady love was.
He looked at his hands folded on his lap. " I was trying to escape Chinna Pazhuvettarayar's men when I stumbled onto Krishna Ashtami celebrations. I disguised myself as Kamsa Raja and joined the festivities so that I wouldn't be recognised. Amidst the performance, I noticed a young noble woman sitting in front of me, who was looking at me with curiosity and awe. I found myself unable to look away as well and secretly prided myself in being the object of her attention, even though the other performers were literally trying to turn my head the other way. After the performance, I was even more ecstatic that I got an opportunity to meet her, only to learn that she was none other than the person I came here to meet - the only daughter of emperor and my best friend's dear sister. She was quite opposite of what I imagined her to be - she seemed more proud of her intelligence than her beauty and her witty remarks surprised me. It not every day you see a woman get involved in Royal politics but she made it look like an easy task. When she asked me to bring her younger brother home, I was sure I have won her trust and at that moment I felt as if I can trust her for eternity too. I am a traveller and a landless prince, my kingdom is the sky above and the earth below, but when she said she would be waiting for me, I was gripped by a feeling that was unfamiliar to me. I was never afraid to die because I didn't had anything to lose. But at that moment I vowed to stay alive and complete the mission no matter what so that I can see her again.I declared my loyalty to her and she smiled again and I could see that she had full confidence that I'd succeed and we would meet again. All along the journey, I met several people but her face, her smile and her words stood out from them all and I realized that what I was feeling was not a mere infatuation but something more strong and intense, even when I was painfully aware of the differences between us. "
He could practically hear the wheels turning in Kundavai's mind as he spoke and the exact moment when realisation dawned on her. By the time he finished speaking her face was as red as the red fabric she was wearing. The formidable, hard-to-win-over Kundavai Nachiyar getting flustered, now that was a sight to behold.
Silence spread in the chamber and suddenly Vanthiyathevan realised something. What has he done? He came here to offer some company to her so that the Kodumbalur Ilavarasi can spend time with Ponniyin Selvan. He only planned to narrate a few stories or tell one or two jokes but never did he plan on revealing his feelings, solely because he didn't knew how she would respond.
"Forgive me, devi. I just spoke what came to my mind. You don't have to give a reply. Excuse me". Disheartened by the silence she continued to provide, he stood up and made his way to the door.
"Wait " Her voice echoed in the silent chamber
He turned around to see that she has also stood up and was now facing him.
"Vanthiyatheva, what is it that you say about a promise made by the Vana Clan?"
This was the last thing he expected her to ask " We never go back on our promise, devi" he said.
She took a step towards him " Long ago I met a Vana Clan prince who made me a promise and now I feel like he is going back on it"
He moved towards her, heart beating fast "What promise? "
Another step towards him.
"That his life belongs not to him, but to her"
They were standing close to each other, look of longing in both pair of eyes.
"Say it again" He sounded desperate but she didn't mind as she let out a breathy chuckle. She took his hands in hers and took a long breath before saying the words she always wanted to confess.
"You made a promise to me so let me make a promise to you too. These hands of mine, which are being held by yours, will never touch another man's hands ever"
Now it was Vanthiyathevan's turn to blush. He took their intertwined hands, touched it to his forehead and kissed the back of her left hand.
"Oh and I figured out the real reason you are here" she whispered and he looked up at her teasing glance.
"What did you found out?" He challenged her.
" You must be here to distract me. Now I don't know for what or for who but I'm guessing it's either for my Thambi or my Thozi. I don't know where Vanathi is but if you're saying she is safe then I trust you. But I'll find out when I catch her" She said, sure of her analysis.
'This woman and her brain ' He thought before saying out loud "Devi, don't tell your thozi you figured it out otherwise I'll lose my credibility "
They both burst out laughing.

Meanwhile, in the palace garden
Vanathi didn't expect a secret rendezvous would be so difficult. Not only making sure that her Akka was occupied, she declared that she was so tired she was going to bed early so that none of the family members enquired after her. She quietly made her way to the gardens, hiding behind pillars whenever any servants or soldiers walked by so that no one reported her to her Akka. Finally she made it to her destination successfully and looked around for her yaanai paagan. She saw him stand a few feet away, his back turned to her, looking up at the moon with hands behind his back.
He must have been in very deep thought as he was startled when she called out to him.
"Vanathi" he said softly, holding his hand out to her. She took it and stood closer to him, neither knowing what to do next, just enjoying the sensation of gazing and smiling at the other. Soon, Arulmozhi took the initiative, moving forward to walk and they fell into a rhythm of silently walking down the garden path hand-in-hand.
"Vanathi" he said again, as though he was in love with her name " I don't know how to express my feelings wholeheartedly like my Anna, I don't even know how to charm my loved one like Vanthiyathevan no matter how hard he tried to teach me"
they both laughed at that
"But I know how important it is to let a person know how much they mean to you and that is what I'm trying to say. Let us put the past behind us and renew this relationship." He was about to say something more but hesitated.
" Trust and understanding are two fundamental factors for any kind of relationship Ponniyin Selvare" Vanathi said, squeezing his hand "You can share your troubles with me"
Reassured by her words, he said " You should know I have an innate fear that I'd get swallowed up by the royal politics that I wouldn't be a good ruler to my people. My other fear is that I won't be able to give you the same amount of love that you shower me with if I get consumed by my royal duties. These are my insecurities "
Vanathi was taken aback by how much anxiety lay behind his outward calm demeanor. She stopped walking and sat down on the grass below, dragging him down as well so both of them were sitting side-by-side.
"Ilavarase, it is completely fine to have insecurities but you shouldn't let them rule over your heart. You have a loving family, supportive friends and loyal men with you and your dedication to the crown will surely win you the people's hearts. And as for your other fear, keep doing what you're doing right now- open up to me and let us learn to trust and care for each other. That in itself will show me how much I mean to you"
Arulmozhi felt as if a huge burden has been lifted from his chest. He suddenly remembered something and pulled out a satchel from his angavastram.
"I've been meaning to give you this for some time now, consider this as a token of my love. " he opened the satchel and slipped a Ruby ring onto her finger.
"This is so beautiful! Now I feel bad I didn't get you any gift" Vanathi gushed and turned to him pouting.
" You are the greatest gift of my life"
" Vanthiyathevan taught you well"
"Hey! Why are you giving him so much credit? What I said now came from my heart"
He said in mock-annoyance which dissolved into a loving smile when Vanathi put her head on his shoulder.

Thus, two love stories came to a sense of fulfillment with only the moon as their witness.
