'Is actor Andrew Scott being profiled for being too gay?
Two recent news reports suggest this may be the case. In the first, the reason why he was snubbed by the Oscars and BAFTAs for his performance in "All of Us Strangers" was expressed by writer/director Russell T. Davies ("It's a Sin," the original "Queer as Folk").
Scott, the Irish actor who came out in 2013, broke into the mainstream in 2019 with his ongoing role as the hunky priest on the second season of "Fleabag." When "All of Us Strangers" was released in December, many thought Scott was shoe-in for Best Actor nominations from the Academy Awards and the BAFTAs, especially after receiving a Golden Globe nod.
Was Andrew Scott Just Playing His Gay Self?
Davies claims the reason why Scott was snubbed is that "when a gay man plays a gay man, he's not considered to be acting..." Adding, "I genuinely think that happened there, that people thought, 'Oh, it's very good, but he's not acting there. He's not reaching; he was just being himself.'"
He also said Scott's turn in the movie was "a world-class performance [that] was massively underrated because he's gay and very publicly and visibly gay."
Davies was speaking at National Student Pride on Saturday (24 February), on a panel on queer representation in media moderated by Attitude editor-in-chief Cliff Joannou...
"I very publicly and loudly proclaim that gay actors should play gay roles," he further pointed out, adding, "What I'm trying to do is shift it slightly so that more queer people are seen for queer roles"
Davies was joined on the panel by "It's a Sin" actor Nathaniel Curtis, "Everything Now" star Noah Thomas, "Shadow and Bone "actor Jack Wolfe and "Heartstopper" actress Bel Priestley.
Was Scott Gay-Baited by BBC Reporter?
The BBC sort-of apologized for an apparent gaffe by their reporter Colin Paterson when speaking with out actor Andrew Scott on the Red Carpet for the BAFTA Awards on February 18, reports The Independent.
"The red carpet interview in question quickly went viral as viewers criticized the BBC's Colin Paterson for repeatedly asking Scott about Barry Keoghan's nude scene in Emerald Fennell's film, 'Saltburn'," the British newspaper writes.
Scott was at the event to present an award, as well as to support the nominated film "All of Us Strangers," which had been nominated for six awards, including Outstanding British Film, Best Casting, Best Director and Screenplay (Andrew Haigh), Best Supporting Actress (Claire Foy), and Best Supporting Actor (Paul Mescal).
Missing amongst the nominees was Scott, who plays a lonely British gay man who revisits his childhood home to find his parents, long dead, alive and younger than he is. At the same time he begins a relationship with a man in his building (Mescal).
While the film holds a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, none of its nominees won at the BAFTAS, nor did the film receive any Oscar nominations.
Much of the criticism of Paterson came with his focusing on a controversial scene in "Saltburn," Emerald Fennell's dark, satiric comedy that was also up for a number of BAFTAs, in questioning Scott.
"Instead of asking about the critically acclaimed queer drama, Paterson opted to focus on asking Scott his thoughts on Keoghan's penis," writes The Hollywood Reporter. "In the now-viral clip, the correspondent said, 'Do you know Barry well?' Scott, who seemingly didn't know the direction that the conversation was heading in, beamed, 'Yes! I know Barry, yeah!"'
Paterson continued: "OK, your reaction when you first saw the naked dance scene at the end of 'Saltburn?'" Scott responded with uncomfortable laugh: "It's great, it's great. I won't spoil it for anybody." Not picking up the clues from Scott, Patterson battered on: "There was a lot of talk about prosthetics. How well do you know him?"
Smiling, Scott waved Paterson off and walked away. "Too much?" Patterson asked.
On Saturday, six days after the report went viral with much criticism of Paterson, the BBC published the following comment:
"Our reporter began by asking Andrew Scott about the film he'd appeared in – "All of Us Strangers" – which was nominated for six Baftas. He then moved on to ask about the popularity of Irish actors where Barry Keoghan, star of 'Saltburn,' was mentioned.
"'Saltburn' is a film which has had cultural impact, with Barry Keoghan's scene at the end gaining a lot of attention in particular – something the actor has addressed himself. Our question to Andrew Scott was meant to be a light hearted reflection of the discussion around the scene and was not intended to cause offense. 'Saltburn' writer and director, Emerald Fennell, and Sophie Ellis-Bextor, whose song 'Murder on the Dancefloor' was used in the sequence, were also asked about the scene.
"We do, however, accept that the specific question asked to Andrew Scott was misjudged. After speaking with Andrew on the carpet, our reporter acknowledged on air that his questioning may have gone too far and that he was sorry if this was the case."'

Kim Bodnia embodies his characters so perfectly in such a natural way from Konstantin in Killing Eve to Vesemir in The Witcher. I had been so hesitant to watch The Witcher because of the monsters as I'm such a scaredy-cat, but as soon as I saw that he was cast as Vesemir, I knew I had to suck it up and dive straight into this world. He just has that fatherly charm and amazing chemistry with his costars that is oh so perfect and the way he looks at and speaks so highly of them (Jodie Comer/Villanelle and Freya/Ciri) both onscreen and offscreen in interviews like a proud father just always warms my heart so much. You'll start wondering if he is their father in real life, so beautiful. I can tell the acting is from his experience as a father in real life, too good. He has such a beautiful and rich sense of humor and his energy is always such a vibe. I've been waiting for an interview of him with Henry Cavill/Geralt and I can't wait to see these two beautiful men in an interview. Also, I can't wait to see him once more as Konstantin in Killing Eve's final season!!!

I've always loved and adored Josh Horowitz's interviews. He has a way of getting the actors to relax and have fun. And his thoughtful and insightful questions always have a refreshing spin on them. This was so much fun and refreshing to watch. I laughed so much and their energy was so contagious. I love love love Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer soooo much!!!
Edit: I envisaged it might get deleted on YouTube due to copyright claims and I just got a message that it did. I've attached two links to the full video on Instagram and the patreon link to join.

P-Valley
I miss the valley already...
Video Credit: IG @pvalleystarz
Autumn was looking at Andre and his wife like she was about to kill someone with the lyrics.
Andre and his wife have both been wearing masks long before the pandemic. Andre was selling a lie, a fantasy he thought she wanted and she wanted to believe it instead of unveiling the man behind. Why did Andre wait all these years before being honest about his reasons for marrying his wife?
I loved the scene with Lil Murda in the fragmented glass and removing his gold teeth. It was an unveiling of his mask. We see the different men that make up Lil' Murda, the scared, the fearless, the famous, the one looking for validation and more. And he can choose which one to present at any given time.
And the variations of his memories flashing through his mind from his pride when he came to the Pynk to the first time he heard his song being played there and his entire journey to where he was now performing in the Pynk.
I remember when Keyshawn was helping him with overcoming his stage fright and told him to try performing nude and he was uncomfortable initially in season 1 episode 7.
"The same way you strip yourself naked on that track, you gotta strip yourself naked on the stage. See the crowd, that's who you are rapping to — now tell em' what you got to say."
But now, look who was performing shirtless and could look into the eyes of his audience saying the lyrics with confidence, no beat in the background. I love that scene because it really shows how he has evolved from the insecure rapper who wanted his beats to be good enough and now that they're slapping, he could just let the lyrics sink in even though that was also a testament of what he did and a threat to whom it may concern (Maine) in the audience.
And the whole scene came full circle with a collabo of the Mercedes Experience (the last show) and Lil' Murda when you remember their initial meeting of her disapproval to his bars to their reflection last episode and bringing that collaboration to life. They sure is fire!
The moment the beat dropped and Mercedes jumped down the pole straight to sitting and bouncing on the floor, damn!
I loved The Mayor Bishop Woodbine reveal. The way the scenes were edited, the montages from the performance at the club to Mayor Woodbine in some serious prayer sessions to Andre Watkins recieving a call from Wayne Kyle saying congratulations making it seem Andre won until we hear the reporter asking if he has heard from the Mayor Elect.
When Mayor Bishop Woodbine was doing environment inspection of the mayor's office and fell off the chair I was dying laughing.
I also loved the reveal of the Corbin deal with the front page news of the waterfront property deal coming to fruition. Corbin sure brought the water to him literally after all, he followed Uncle Clifford's advice. Uncle Clifford I see what you did there boo!
Keyshawn and Lil Murda hugging with the sunset lighting up their beautiful black skin under the clear blue skies. They've been through so much together. I wish she could have made it out. There was no investigation whatsoever. What happened to due process? So neighbors report a noise and automatically it's the black mom that's the abuser? Sigh... Derrick's got to go!
Someone needed to call out Autumn on all her shit. While she didn't force anyone to catch a body, still it was like she completely absolved herself and blamed them. Talking about interest after all them bodies, okay just one body but still.
I understand she ain't trusting, and she has a lot of trauma she is working through. I got where she was coming from business wise in regards to selling the club but as Uncle Clifford said, they was family and Pynk was home. I wish they could have come to a compromise though because I care about her character. You know what they say, hurting people hurt others. And say what you will, she made and took practical steps to help Keyshawn
Mayor Bishop finally did one thing right, handing Terricka over to Mercedes. It was fitting to see Mercedes finally in her gym and her baby with Sam Cooke Bring it on home to me. It was a breath of fresh air. Freedom at last! Old dreams were fulfilled and birthed the opportunity to dream new dreams.
Uncle Clifford letting Mercedes go reminds me of this quote.
"A good mentor hopes you will move on. A great mentor knows you will."- Ted Lasso
Sadly, in this finale, some people got their dreams and some didn't.

MINE
Family...
Tumblr media
Goes back to what I always say, family by blood is overrated. Whoever is putting in the work, loving, caring about one is who I call family blood related or not. Ciri's father is trash. Yennefer's stepfather was trash. Geralt's mother, trash too. We don't know a lot about Jaskier's background but he has found a family too, they all have.
One thing I love about Geralt and Yennefer is they have this weird kind of trust but at the same time are fully aware of what the other is capable of. I call them the perfect ying-yang. They are not blinded by love. Their dynamic is one I enjoy and I'm particularly invested in.
The way Yennefer's face lights up at the unicorn scene as she says I'm a beacon of purity, really warmed my heart. It was like the world stood still for a moment. Her smile was soft, genuine, innocent, so bright it could light up a room, immaculately beautiful, and that split second of sheer joy and happiness, that comes from deep within before the guilt of what she was about to do crept right back. It was one of those moments you forget all the troubles you have been in and the ones about to come.
When Ciri asked Yennefer about Geralt and she goes on about longing, regret, hope, and fear, and Ciri is just like so you love him too.
Lilac and Gooseberries
Yennefer: How is this possible
Geralt: I don't care
When Geralt addressed her as dear friend, I laughed so much. And then he had the nerve to call Istredd her other dear friend, it was hilarious.
I think I got a bit of shyness as he introduced Yennefer to Ciri which was cute because Geralt is anything but shy.
It also reminded me of a scene in Killing Eve when Konstantin (also played by Kim Bodnia) was hitting the blender, saying all old friends together, sarcastically of course! Haha!
I loved how Ciri and Yennefer were introduced to each other, I think it was just perfect in explaining who exactly she was and what she meant to Geralt without words said.
Of course, she cared about her power. In such a violent world, there is no convenient time to lose one's powers at all.
I think it was interesting to see Yennefer try to cope without her powers not just in survival, but also in what it meant to her essence. And in the final moment as she slashed her wrists, even if she had died, she would have been satisfied because she had finally filled the void of a child with Ciri.
Yennefer is loyal to herself and the people she loves and that's what I love most about her. She understands the dynamics in the sense of how the different authorities are only out to use one until they are not of use anymore.
"Betrayal doesn't depend on how or how much you love someone. It depends on the magnitude of the dilemma before you."- Berlin in Money Heist
I do not condone Yennefer's intentions to sacrifice Ciri but I understood it.
Yennefer struggles with the feeling of not being enough which stems from her childhood trauma, abuse. Someone also pointed out the parallel between slashing her wrists in season one and season two and that broke my heart.
Four marks
I dreamed of becoming important to someone someday.
This is a woman who had given up on legacy, the hope of having a baby, life in the finale of season one. And even said if she died, that will be okay as she had lived multiple lifetimes to which Tissaia said her power could be her legacy.
Except she didn't die, and the one thing she had, chaos, which she described as her sight and a life force that makes one feel alive was gone too.

Movies I watched this Week #96
My neighbor Adolf, a strange new Israeli comedy, which was produced in Poland and filmed in Colombia. It’s about an old Holocaust survivor in 1960 who suspects that his mysterious German neighbor is Hitler. The tone is shifted from comedy to horror, the score is jarring, and Udo Kier is terrific. Interesting oddity - 7/10.
🍿
2 non-narrative poems by Ron Fricke:
🍿 After serving as the cinematographer on Koyaanisqats, Ron Fricke  branched on his own to direct 4 time-lapse abstract poems in a similar large scale style. Chronos was his first. A musical essay about the passage of time.
It’s hard to believe it’s from 1985. Unfortunately, it’s only 42 minutes long. Best of the week!
🍿 Re-watch: Baraka, AKA “Breathing” in Sufi. His next impressionistic, non-verbal, majestic trip across the world. But also includes darker segments about mass destruction, poverty, homelessness, mass murder, animal farming
🍿
Sweetheart, a sweet new British comedy about a confused 17-year-old girl on holiday camp with her family, as she awkwardly falls in love with another girl. 100% “Fresh” reviews on ‘Rotten Tomatoes’. I loved it. 7/10. (Photo Above).
🍿
5 by veteran Bruce Beresford: 🍿 His most recent, Ladies in Black, was recommended to me by my 92-year-old mother, who read the Australian book about a group of female employees in a hi-scale department store in 1959 Sydney. I did not expect to like it so much. More than a feel good “chick flick” reminiscent of ‘Carol’, it’s a nuanced and nostalgic feminist tale, well-told. 7/10.
🍿"...Were you really Mac Sledge?" ... "Yes ma'am, I guess I was..."
First watch: Tender Mercies, a tender story about an alcoholic country singer who finds peace and redemption with a young widow outside Waxahachie, Texas. Robert Duvall sang (his own) songs. This was Tess Harper debut film.  8/10.
🍿 “...Hoke? ...Yes'm....You're my best friend...”.
Driving Miss Daisy, his very popular drama about the relationship between old Jewish Jessica Tandy and her subservient black chauffeur Morgan Freemen starting in 1940′s Atlanta, GA and continuing for 25 years. Tandy became the oldest actress to win an Oscar, by playing a 72-year-old woman who than ages through the decades. With an early catchy score by Hans Zimmer. 9/10.
🍿 In 1987 he participated in Aria, a 10-director anthology interpreting various opera scenes, mostly by the Europeans, Verdi, Puccini, Wagner, Lully, Etc. The line-up was impressive: Godard, Julien Temple, Robert Altman, Ken Russell...
Every reviewer at the time had a different opinion which of the segments were ‘successful’ and which failed. I was taken in by the first remarkable few by Nicolas Roeg and Charles Sturridge, But eventually the whole concept proved to be just music videos of Operas, and fizzled out. Bridget Fonda and Elizabeth Hurley had their debut performances here, and very young Tilda Swinton too. The music of course was superb.
🍿 Re-watch: His Australian breakthrough film Breaker Morant, about the first war crime trial in the history of the British military. A real life story of the 3 Australian soldiers who were court marshaled for murder of some prisoners, “The scapegoats of British Empire". Old-fashioned war films, especially about a far-away war like the Anglo-Boer War, are not too interesting, but the last 25 minutes were brilliant.
🍿
So 2 more by Ken Russell:
🍿 Women in love, his adaptation of D H Lawrence’s bohemian novel, about sex and the upper class before the war. It’s a modern story of the relationships of two sisters of working-class background and two male friends, who also have strong attraction for each other. An early script by Larry Kramer.
Including some famous scenes, notably a nude wrestling scene between Bates and Reed and "The proper way to eat a fig”.
🍿 Ken Russell’s very last film, A Kitten for Hitler, (”Ein Kitten für Hitler”), is an offensive, politically-incorrect 2007 short. It tells of a little Jewish boy (played by a real Oompa-Loompa dwarf) in 1941 Brooklyn, NY who travels to give Hitler a gift of a kitten in order to soften his heart, so he won’t be so cruel. But the boy ends up as a lampshade on Eva Braun’s side of their bed. So yeah, a typical Pink Flamingo type dog shit bomb by the 80-year-old Russell.
🍿
Argentina, 1985, based on true events, is a new courtroom drama about the brave prosecutor who led the “Trial of the Juntas”. I knew about the ‘Disappeared”, but was not too familiar with the details of that period in Argentinian history. After 8 years of brutal dictatorship, this trial was the opening chapter in the struggle for democracy that has lasted until now. Interesting topic, formulaic execution. 5/10.
(I was planning to follow this with ‘The official Story’, the 1985 story about ‘The dirty War’, which was the first Argentinian film ever to win an Oscar, but didn’t manage. Back on the list it goes)..
🍿
I was looking forward to Weird: The al Yankovic Story, the ‘Funny and die’ spoof, and hoped it will slap, but it was a big disappointment: It was a flat and dumb parody about a parodist, not funny or clever. And so many cameos: Dali, Divine, Hulk Hogan, Conan O'Brien as Andy Warhol, Coolio... 1/10.
🍿
Woody Allen’s 2nd slapstick comedy Take the Money and Run, from the time when he was still funny (“He earned a meager living selling meagers”) and before he started molesting young girls. Strange to think that his self-depreciated nervousness was once considered a romantic trait.
🍿
A bit more Guilty Pleasure: I saw the complete ‘Breaking Bad’ about 3 times before, and so I just went back to the series final Felina once again. It’s about revenge: The most dramatic scene is the machine Gun Massacre, but the rest of the episode is very quiet, introspective and emotional conclusion to this perfectly-complicated story.
🍿
Throw-back to the art project:
Morgan Freeman Adora.
Breaking Bad Adora.
🍿

2008 was a horrible year for me. Actually, it was the best. I’ve been on a cruise before. I like chemistry more than biology. I like taking surveys more than making them. I absolutely despise the color pink. I don’t have a significant other. I get all four seasons where I live. I only shop when I absolutely have the need to. I have an older brother. I have my driver’s license. I don’t want to have kids someday. I wear more jeans than skirts. I’d rather wear sneakers than high heels. I don’t go to church. I don’t like having my fringe in my face. I’m very much into heavy metal music. I own like, a hundred hoodies. I couldn’t draw to save my life. I’m a very good cook. I always have to look at the keyboard when I type. I’ve had surgery before. I don’t mind getting shots all that much. I’m not afraid of bugs. I love hot, hot weather! I have huge eyes and long lashes. I’m naturally very pale. I’m usually not very picky at all when it comes to food. My parents are divorced. I don’t like doing surveys, but I find myself doing them anyway. I’m addicted to Tumblr. I don’t have a Facebook account. I have perfect vision and don’t need glasses or contacts. I don’t wear makeup when I go out. I hate stores like Forever 21. I’m very much into sports. I don’t see what the big deal about photography is. Or fashion design. I don’t really appreciate art that much. Horror movies are my favorite. I don’t care if people cut in line in front of me. I don’t even remember the last time I put on a piece of jewelry. My hair is naturally straight. I support gay marriage. I have more friends online than I do in real life. My siblings are all older than I am. My significant other is younger than I am. I curse in almost every sentence I speak. I always get straight A’s in exams. I don’t know how to play any instrument. I only know how to speak one language. I don’t have my own personal blog. I’m allergic to something. I’ve been stung by a bee at least once in my life. This is the last survey I’m doing today. I have seen someone propose in public before. And they got rejected, poor bloke. I wonder if I will ever get proposed in public. Heck I don’t even know if I’ll ever get married. I know what a sake bomb is. I’ve tried it before. I’ve watched ‘Paris Hilton’s My New BFF’. ^ Ew, sad much? I think Paris Hilton is a brainless bitch. I celebrate Chinese New Year. I’m not Chinese or a tiny bit Asian at all. I have a step-sibling. I have a weak tolerance of alcohol. Are you kidding me? I can drink all night long! I want a new cell phone. I have my own bathroom. I sleep on a single bed. Nah, I have a King/Queen size bed! I think one night stands are no biggie. ^ Slut ^Prude I’ve been on a helicopter before. I’m actually afraid of heights. My date rented a limo to take me to prom. Pfft, I wish I had a date. I haven’t had my prom yet. I like clicking on advertisements. Pop-up ads are so old school. I recently took a bath. I never bother, I just take showers. My Christmas holidays were the bomb! Ugh, mine sucked like hell. I’d love to go to Japan one day. I’ve seen a ghost before. ^ I’d pee in my pants if I did. ^ No, I’d run and scream. I can write lyrics! I can, but I’m not very good at it. I would like to become a musician one day. I love finding things in sofa cracks. I know someone that’s trying very hard to fit in a stereotype. Every cup of water I drink equals to a trip to the toilet. I recently received my exam results. They were quite good! Nope, failed it all. It’s my boyfriend’s birthday today. He never gives me gifts. He buries me with them. I wish I had a boyfriend that actually spends money on me! I love him very much. The Beatles rock my world. Actually, a lot of classic rock bands rock my world. It takes me a really long while to get to sleep. I’m a personality quiz fiend. I am and have always been a night owl. I love reading Sarah Dessen books. My earphones are in my ears practically 24/7. I am an only child and that’s not because of any death. I hate school and everything else connected to it. I’ve never been in any romantic relationship. I have a lot of favorite names. And I plan to use those names on my kids. I’m reading a comic book right now. I’m listening to music right now. I memorize lyrics really easily. But memorizing stuff for school isn’t easy at all. Math is my worst enemy. I love bolding surveys. Nice and easy. I pick Guitar Hero over Rock Band. I really don’t mind being all alone.

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our dear friend, Leon Kossoff. He was 92 years of age. “Our thoughts are with his friends and family, who along with his beloved hometown of London, were the essence of his being,” says Peter Goulds, Founding Director, L.A. Louver.
One of Britain’s greatest artists, Kossoff was known for his paint-laden canvases and vigorously gestural charcoal and pastel drawings. His early cityscapes give us a potent vision of a ravaged post-war London, and over subsequent decades, his more recent depictions captured the rejuvenation and light of the city. Kossoff also drew and painted the figure and was renowned for his unsentimental portrayal of the human condition. He worked from life, and those who sat for him were family members and a small group of close friends and models. A fervent champion of figurative art, Kossoff found kinship with the School of London, a postwar generation of painters that embraced figuration and landscapes in an era of abstraction and conceptualism, and whose members included Francis Bacon, Lucian Freud, Frank Auerbach, David Hockney, R.B. Kitaj and Euan Uglow.
Kossoff relentlessly pursued painting and drawing, as well as printmaking, to comprehend his changing world. He used paint to build heavily impastoed compositions through a rigorous process of repeated application and removal. While he never considered himself a gifted draughtsman, it was the act of drawing and his love for the medium that allowed Kossoff entry into his subjects. “Drawing is a springing to life in the presence of the friend in the studio or in the sunlit summer streets of London… painting is a deepening of this process.” He studied the Old Masters with enthusiasm, and maintained a lifelong habit of frequenting London’s museums where he would spend hours contemplating and drawing from beloved works of art by Titian, Tintoretto, Veronese, Poussin, Rembrandt, Rubens, Constable and Cézanne.
Kossoff was born to Russian Jewish immigrants in East London in 1926, and was raised on the borders of Islington, not far from Shoreditch where his family owned a bakery. At the age of nine, Kossoff visited the National Gallery of Art where he saw Rembrandt van Rijn’s painting Woman Bathing in a Stream (1634), a defining moment that remained a guiding presence throughout his life.
In 1945, he commenced military service for three years with the Royal Fusiliers (2nd Battalion Jewish Brigade), in Italy, Holland, Belgium and Germany. Thereafter, he reengaged with his youthful passion for drawing and resumed his studies at St. Martin’s School of Art in 1949 (where he had taken classes 1943-45), and attended evening classes at Borough Polytechnic with David Bomberg. From 1953-1956, he studied at the Royal College of Art, London.
Exhibiting in London since the late 1950s, Kossoff had his first solo museum show at the Whitechapel Art Gallery, London in 1972, and gained an international presence in 1981 with his inclusion in the exhibition Eight Figurative Painters: Michael Andrews. Frank Auerbach, Francis Bacon, William Coldstream, Lucian Freud, Patrick George, Leon Kossoff, Euan Uglow at Yale Center for British Art, New Haven, CT (traveled to Santa Barbara Museum of Art, CA), which presaged numerous group shows in places as far afield as Australia, Germany and India in the decade that followed.
Kossoff represented Great Britain at the 1995 Venice Biennale exhibition (traveled to Kunstverein Düsseldorf, and Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam 1995-96), and in 1996, Tate presented a major solo retrospective. A painting survey presented by the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Humlebæk, Denmark, traveled to Museum of Modern Art Lucerne, Switzerland in 2004/2005. Exhibitions of Kossoff’s old master–inspired works have also been staged at The J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles; Los Angeles County Museum of Art; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; The National Gallery, London and National Gallery of Australia, Canberra.
L.A. Louver was first to present Kossoff’s work outside of the UK with This Knot of Life: Paintings and Drawings by British Artists in 1979, the same year we began our representation. Over the past 40 years, the gallery has featured Kossoff in over a dozen group shows and five solo exhibitions, including Leon Kossoff: London Landscapes in 2014 (co-organized with Annely Juda Fine Art, London; Galerie Lelong, Paris and Mitchell-Innes and Nash, New York). The exhibition centered on drawings and paintings made of his beloved London, which Kossoff has described so: “Ever since the age of twelve, I have drawn and painted London… the strange ever- changing light, the endless streets and the shuddering feel of the sprawling city linger in my mind like a faintly glimmering memory…”
While we will miss Leon greatly, we are fortunate that his pictures remain with us, imbued with his quiet, resolute, gentle, passionate spirit, and his keen intellect and sensitive eye. They will forever glimmer with memories of his London and his vision of humanity.
Leon Kossoff is survived by his wife Peggy, son David, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

This day in toon history
11/8/1916: On this day, during the filming of early film star Krazy Kat's short "The Missing One" (11/25/1916) and "Krazy Kat Takes Little Katrina For an Airing" (12/23/1916), human film actress and model Audrey Munson was visiting town. Munson is probably the most famous face seen in Manhattan, New York City, even today. She was the world's first supermodel, who posed for over 50 famous statues around NYC and had a small film career before attempting suicide in '21, and died at 104 in '96 after spending 60+ years in an asylum . She was a woman who was a fierce advocate for woman artists, cause everybody only wanted her for her body. She was the first person to go nude in a film, by the way Anyway, Munson was filming "Purity" (1916) and "The Girl O' Dreams" (1916) in Santa Barbara when she decided to visit Hollywood. She chanced upon Krazy Kat when she was trying to get her skills noticed and they were seen dining at a cafe, deep in conversation. Nobody knows what they talked about, but it was deep and meaningful. Munson was silent on it when she returned to Manhattan, and Kat briefly mentioned meeting "Miss Manhattan, who changed my purrspective on the meaning of artistic achievement" in his 1945 memoir. I guess they were alike; both beloved for a few fleeting years, forgotten by the world yet immortalized as pioneers of their professions. -Wheezy

FINLAND 1 - 0 - 0 🇫🇮
A QUICK COMPILATION OF ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW - AND WISH YOU NEVER DID.
1. You may call us Finland and Finns, but we call ourselves Suomi and suomalaiset.
2. Altho if you don´t mind, we would rather you did not call us anything ever. Actually if we could both pretend each other doesn´t even exist, that would be just great!
Tumblr media
3. Yes we are a notoriously shy and reserved nation with a gigantic inferiority complex - especially when compared to our neighbor Sweden.
4. Who incidentally we loooooove beating in hockey.
Tumblr media
5. Saimaannorppa aka Saimaa ringed seal can only be found in Finland and is highly endangered.
Tumblr media
According to a count done in 2015, there are only about 320 individuals left, and therefore quite understandably whenever one is found dead in a fisherman´s net or by the hands of a poacher etc., it causes headlines and outrages.
6. 70% of Finland is made up of forests - that´s roughly the size of the entire area of the United Kingdom.
7. Finland was awarded the Summer Olympics for 1940, but then things got all sorts of fucked up thanks to Adolf & co., so those plans were scrapped even tho we had a brand-spanking new Olympic stadium and everything! Dammit!
Oh well, we were compensated in 1952 when we finally got the honor of hosting our only (so far) Olympic games.
Tumblr media
8. Those 1952 Olympics were the first time Coca Cola was introduced to Finns.
Tumblr media
9. No, we do not have polar bears.
10. We also don´t have KFC, Wendy´s or Dunkin´ Donuts.
11. Yes I am very upset about all those things mentioned above but especially about KFC.
12. Finland was the first country in Europe which gave women the right to vote (1906).
Tumblr media
13. The Finnish language does not separate words such as “she” or “he”. We just use a gender-neutral “hän”, which means “that person”.
14. The national bird of Finland is the whooper swan.
Tumblr media
15. Helsinki has the world´s most Northern metro system.
Tumblr media
16. Savonlinna hosts their annual Opera Festival in a Medieval castle.
Tumblr media
17. We are vindictive and petty as HELL. Just ask Silvio Berlusconi.
http://kmp78.tumblr.com/post/155861218049/finland-chronicles-part-14
18. A Finnish person will drink approximately 129 litres of milk a year.
Tumblr media
19. Some years ago, the word for mother (”äiti”) was voted the most beautiful word in the Finnish language.
20. Moomins are, as some of you MAY REMEMBER FROM A SPECIFIC DEBACLE FROM EARLIER THIS YEAR, from Finland and were created by OUR Miss Tove Jansson.
Tumblr media
21. Unlike many other countries which after gaining independence tore down all statues and other remnants of their history under foreign rule, in Finland we chose to keep ours up as reminders of our past.
For example, on our main square aka the Senate Square you will find Czar Alexander II standing proudly.
Tumblr media
22. And speaking of statues, one of the landmarks of Helsinki is Havis Amanda.
Tumblr media
It depicts a mermaid who decides to leave the sea and walk on... well, not water.
Each year on April 30th, she is “crowned” with a cap, to represent all those who have graduated from secondary school and earned their caps.
23. As of 2010, internet access has been a legal right in Finland.
24. Do you have one of those cupboard things over your kitchen sink, the kind where you place your dishes to dry?
Tumblr media
That was invented by a Finnish woman called Maiju Gebhard in 1945.
25. The longest word in the Finnish language is “epäjärjestelmällistyttämättömyydelläänsäkäänköhän”, which loosely translates to “not even by her lack of organization, do you suppose”.
26. Angry Birds are from here.
Tumblr media
27. Finland is also the birth place of the most successful ski jump champions of all time, Matti Nykänen.
Tumblr media
28. After his sports career came to an end, Matti has been a permanent fixture in the tabloids with his... issues... involving alcohol abuse, domestic abuse (he even served time in prison for attempting to kill one of his many ex-wives) and an assortment of careers including stripping and now singing.
He is also responsible for one of our most beloved and useful quotes of all time: back in the 80s when he was still jumping from towers and competing in Canada, he got into some “situations” and was sent back home as punishment. When he arrived at the airport, a journo asked him “Matti, did you drink alcohol?”, to which Matti replied “Maybe I did drink, maybe I didn´t drink”.
All bases covered then!
The man is a fucking genius.
Tumblr media
29. There are absolutely ZERO public payphones anywhere in Finland.
30. For a very short period of time back in, Finland had a female president AND a  female Prime Minister.
Tumblr media
Sadly that arrangement came to an abrupt end when the Prime Minister was forced to resign over a scandal involving some sort of Iraq documents which I´m still, a decade later, completely baffled by.
31. As those who come on this blog surely know by now, Yours Truly is a passionate berry picker - and being a berry nut in Finland is easy indeed since a) we have one of the cleanest natures in the world and b) all living things you find in nature, you can keep - within reason, of course.
Tumblr media
Usually a good principle is to keep about 100 meters distance from the nearest house. Other than that, you´re good to go!
32. People in in Northern Finland aka Lapland area have a very specific unit of measurement called the “poronkusema” which could be loosely translated to “Reindeer´s piss”. Roughly it means the distance a reindeer can walk before needing to urinate. It´s quite a long distance...
33. Our current President Sauli Niinistö is a survivor of the tragic tsunami which took place in South-East Asia on Dec 26, 2004. Over 200 000 people (including almost 200 Finnish tourists) died in one of the worst natural disasters of our time - Mr. Niinistö and his sons saved their own lives by climbing up a telephone pole and staying there for several hours.
Tumblr media
34. In Finland October 13th is National Failure Day which aims to encourage people to share their failures and learn from them rather than hide their heads in shame and pretend all is well.
35. The REAL Santa Claus lives up in Rovaniemi and you can visit his village all year long.
Tumblr media
36. Sheldon gave us a good laugh and an ego boost.
youtube
37. We like eating Rudolf with lingonberries and mash.
Tumblr media
38. On some years we get A LOT of snow, but on others we get practically none. Back in 1997, in Lapland the snow reached up to 190 cm.
Incidentally I am 155 cm.
Tumblr media
39. In the Finnish language there is an alphabet called Å which isn´t actually a part of a single Finnish word in the entire Finnish language - it is simply a remnant from our many centuries spent under Swedish rule.
40. Unesco has reported that Finland´s tap water is the cleanest in the world.
Tumblr media
41. A handy Finnish saying: “Early bird catches the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese”.
42. For some God forsaken reason, Finland and Estonia have the same national anthem.
43. Sadly accurate these days.
Tumblr media
44. Sadly accurate these days.
Tumblr media
45. Rosina Heikel (1842 - 1929) was Finland´s and in fact the Nordic countries 1st female doctor.
Tumblr media
46. When something is a failure/a dud, the common term in the English language is “a lemon”. Over here, it´s “susi”. Susi also means wolf.
47. And susi should not be confused with sisu!
48. In Lapland you can spend your vacation in an igloo.
Tumblr media
49. Fines for speeding are determined by the offender´s income. Basically if you earn more, you have to pay more. The highest fines have been over 100 000 €. Stay poor, kids!
50. Pamela Anderson´s grandparents were from Finland.
Tumblr media
51. Yes we like getting our drinks on, and most of us go abroad to Tallinn to get our drinks on for a lot less €s.
Tumblr media
52. In Lapland, the Sun never rises from November to January.
53. In reverse, the Sun never sets from June to July. We call it “The Nightless night”.
54. Finland has exactly 1 Eurovision victory under its belt.
Tumblr media
55. In 2018 Saara Aalto will be repping us.
Tumblr media
Please vote for us. Please?
56. Nokia became famous for their mobile phones, but originally they manufactured rubber boots.
Tumblr media
57. We don´t dub movies or TV shows.
58. We do however sometimes give them ridiculous and extremely SPOILER ALERT-y names. For example, “The Shawshank Redemption” was translated to “Rita Hayworth - Key to escape”.
I mean... C´MOOOOON!
59. Sometimes that´s all you can do.
Tumblr media
60. Simo Häyhä aka “White Death” was one of the deadliest snipers of all time. During a 3 month stretch of the Winter War, he shot roughly 200 Russian soldiers before getting shot in the face himself. He survived and lived to be 96.
Tumblr media
61. We don´t use the 1 and 2 cent coins. You CAN try paying with them as they of course are legal currency, but there are no guarantees you´ll get very far.
62. Feb 14th may be a day for lovers for the rest of the world, but we know it as “Friend´s Day”.
63. Tipping is not (thankfully) a part of the Finnish culture.
64. The guy longing for Sven in Titanic (the coat dude) was portrayed as a Swede, but was actually a Finn called Jari Kinnunen.
Tumblr media
65. Karelian pies with egg butter are the best thing ever.
Tumblr media
66. Märket island which is situated between Finland and Sweden had to have the border lines twisted a bit because the Finns who built that lighthouse, accidentally built it on the wrong side...
Tumblr media
67. While often named as one of the 5 Scandinavian countries, Finland isn´t technically even a part of Scandinavia: we ARE however a part of the Nordic countries.
68. If you are invited to a Finnish sauna, you are expected to go nude.
69. Finnish armed forces are mandatory for men but voluntary for women.
70. Moomin mugs are peculiarly popular especially among Asian tourists. They can sometimes pay even thousands for rare ones.
Tumblr media
71. We never had vikings, but there is one viking tale about a princess called Skjalv, daughter of the Finnish King Froste (those aren´t even Finnish names...), who was stolen as war loot to Sweden but ended up strangling her captor with a gold chain.
72. Our 4th president was Kyösti Kallio, who was forced to resign from office after the Winter War on December 19th 1940. On that same day he was about to step onto a train to take him back home for retirement, when during his final official ceremony at Helsinki Railway Station, in front of his soldiers and while the orchestra played, he suffered a fatal heart attack and died right there in front of everyone. Legend says he collapsed into the arms of our greatest war hero and later president himself, Marshall C.G.E. Mannerheim (seen in the white hat next to President Kallio).
Tumblr media
73. Marshall Mannerheim is the only person in Finnish history who has been rewarded that particular military honor. In fact, he is and forever will remain the only person who has the title “Finland´s Marshall”, an honor bestowed upon him for his services to his home country during Finland´s tumultuous early years of independence.
Tumblr media
A few years ago he was voted by the Finns themselves as the most important Finnish person of all time.
74. In June 1942, Adolf Hitler came to Finland to pay his respects to Marshall Mannerheim on his 75th birthday. As a little “souvenir” for future generations, the sneaky Finns recorded a snippet of his and Mannerheim´s private conversation.
It is the only known recording of Hitler speaking with a calm, normal voice, as he was very particular about only being filmed while screaming and ranting his ideologies.
youtube
75. Roughly 3 million tourists visit Finland each year and I think at least 2 500 000 of them are always going exactly where I´m going too.
76. We like to make things hard for foreigners.
Tumblr media
77. We don´t have any mountains.
78. But we have lakes. We have a shit ton of lakes. 187 888 lakes to be precise.

100 Questions Nobody Ever Asks!
I was tagged by @simsomedia!
1. Do you sleep with your closet doors open or closed?
Closed.
2. Do you take the shampoos and conditioner bottles from hotels?
I work at Lush Cosmetics so I only ever use my own shit.
3. Do you sleep with your sheets tucked in or out?
What does this mean...?
4. Have you stolen a street sign before?
Yes! Well, kind of. I found one on the side of the highway and gave it to a friend for his birthday. I also had a bunch in my backyard because my dad is a sign thief.
5. Do you like to use post-it notes?
I prefer digital notes. Post-Its are fun, though.
6. Do you cut out coupons but then never use them?
I just throw them away or let them expire.
7. Would you rather be attacked by a big bear or a swarm of bees?
Are they definitely going to attack me? Because I know how to deal with bears and how to avoid being mauled by them. And also it’s really hard to get attacked by a swarm of bees. If it was wasps, however, I’d take my chances with the bear.

A few!

With my teeth or...? I haven’t really perfected my photo face....

Tell Me I’m A Wreck by Every Avenue.
19. Is it OK for guys to wear pink?
Is this an actual question? It’s dumb as hell. You know what’s not okay for guys to wear? Fragile masculinity. Pink was originally a masculine color because it’s a shade of red and red is a ‘powerful’ color. Dresses were also deemed masculine in the early 1900s. Fuck gender roles, honestly.

Ethica underwear. Comfiest shit in the world.
