Renewal Isn't A Lie Anymore pt. 9
(i'm back from the dead- and I think it's appreciated and appropriate if I started off with my most popular series lol)
-Edward Nashton x gn! reader
-warnings: canonical violence, some talk of nsfw, something a little hurtful ;)
Tumblr media
While Bruce ran around Gotham looking for clues that would bring him closer to The Riddler, he was also looking for you. He knew he fucked up with you, but maybe he can salvage this relationship...Or would you just end up as brainwashed as The Riddler?
While Batman chased his own tail, Edward kept with carrying his plan. Though you two were now unlikely lovers and not exactly in a relationship, he didn't share any of his plans with you. He didn't want you involved. But you very much were since you were now his fuck buddy.
You laid in an empty bed. You just woke up from an exciting night with The Riddler. You sat up and looked out the window, viewing the gloomy and depressing city below. You looked around the messy room, clearly Edward left for work.
Getting up out of his bed, you shuffle around the cold apartment. Making your way to the kitchen, you noticed a small note.
'Gone to work, have a good day love'
You smiled, placing the sticky note on his fridge. From the top of your brain, you had nothing to do today expect go to pay your respects to now deceased Don Mitchell Jr. Though you never liked him, you felt for his family. He left behind a wife and a son, you only could imagine how hard it is for them. You obviously know Edward caused this...Though you liked Edward...You could only imagine what he could do to you if you ever went back to Bruce...or even talked back to him once. Edward was more than capable to kill you and make an example out of you, and you knew he would if he didn't like what you were doing or saying.
As you dressed, you think about the previous night. How he touched you, how he fucked you...You blush as you dressed in your all-black attire. You check yourself in the bathroom before you exit his apartment and make your way to the church.
When you got the church, immediately the press took photos of you. How you showed up with Bruce, how you kept your head down as you walked pass...You knew they would make this funeral an article on how you're no longer going out or being seen with Bruce. As you walked through the door, all eyes were on you. But you only kept your eyes forward, seeing the large flower arrangements on both sides of the casket.
As you made your way, you saw Bruce being spoke to by the new Mayor, who won by default. Though he stayed silent, you could tell by his body language he did not want to be there or spoken to.
'He looks skinner...He isn't eating' you thought. He turned and noticed you, freezing at your presence. You also didn't know how to feel seeing him. He awkwardly pushes through people to get to you, making your mouth go dry with anxiousness.
"Hi..."
"Hello Bruce.."
Was that all you could muster up? After all this time that's all you could say? You nervously look up him. He looked depressed, he always looked that way but this time it was different. "Y/n...Could we talk after this...? I don't want you to run off..." he said quietly, just above a whisper.
"Fine, we can..." you said, struggling to make eye contact. "I got a video of you last night...A certain video of you with..." God he couldn't even finish that sentence. Your eyes grew in shock. Oh god, he sent that to him? Maybe because you were in a horny daze you couldn't process anything he was saying, you didn't know that he was going to send it to him.
"I don't know...how he got with you or got to you...But I need to make sure you're okay," he said, soon looking up to make eye contact with a young boy that was the mayor's son. As you spoke, he then turned to look up at the floor above him. Though he wanted to listen to you, something felt off. He saw a silhouette of a man..but who?
You notice him not paying attention, "Bruce, did you just hear anything I said,,?" you said quietly, but clearly annoyed. You noticed where his eyes were, so you follow...But see nothing. "Bruce, what's wrong?" You whispered again.
As the gospel music played, a crash was soon heard. A car managed to crash into the building. Everyone screamed and moved out the way. As you saw Bruce run to protect the child. You felt a presence snatch you from the back, place something large, cold, heavy, and metal around your neck. What the hell? As you tried to look down, your hands roaming what was just put on you, your eyes widen. There was a bomb now attached to you by the said metal device. Start to freak out, people that were around you now ran away from you as quickly as they can. As you scramble to look who was the culprit and who could help, your mind only went to one person...Edward. Only someone of his genius could make something like this.
You started to tear up, trying to get the device off of you. "Is this a fucking saw trap?!" You yelled, tears now flowing from your face. Was this how you were going to die? Was this your resting place?
Was everything with Edward a ploy for this exact moment?
As you cried, Bruce looked over at your now crying figure. He internally freaked out as he saw you crying. As everyone ran out, some staying to see what was in the car. A man soon stepped out with the same device around his neck, only he looked more beat up. he had a card stepped to his chest and a phone taped to his hand, an unknown number calling the phone. The man looked just as panicked as you did. Soon police escorted everyone out, leaving you and this man alone with a casket in an empty church.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You and the man sat there in silence for what seemed to be hours. You tried to hold back your tears, you felt so many emotions that you couldn't even let out. The police sent in a small device to keep an eye on both of you as police stood at the entrance, guns and shield held up.
The man who sat across from you stay silent, tape over his mouth that simply read "No more lies". To the police chiefs and investigators, they were confused on why you were brought into the situations. You never took up bribes, you never lied on your promises. Hell, you made everything better. Was he just using you as an example on no matter good or bad, the rich must be taken out? Or were you hiding something? Soon, the phone rang again...and again.
Out of the shadows, Batman came out and approached you both. You both felt relief, more of him than you. Bruce looked down at you, looking at your face stained with tears. Even with your tears, you still look at beautiful as the day he met you. Bruce wanted to caress your face, tell you it would be okay and bring you home. But he knew he couldn't.
He took the tape off the mans face, soon answering the phone. You heard the Riddler talking to Batman, heard him talking about chances and how he was never given one. But now Batman has a chance to make everything right. As he spoke to your husband, he then spoke to Colson about riddles and how they were his retreat.
"Now...place the phone to my sweet angel...Y/n.." he demanded, the man showing the screen to reveal your disheveled look. You could barely look up at the screen to face him...
He betrayed you, used you as a pawn to make a statement...
"My darling, loving, caring angel...You are always so kind. You never lie...yet here you are in this predicament. Now, my sweet...I want you to answer three riddles. Three riddles and I'll set you free. You have two minutes...Are you ready?" he asked, trying to come off as a sweet and caring guy.
You simply nodded, taking in a sharp breath as you hear the beeping of the bomb go off. You had to make this count, even though you knew Edward loved you...he wouldn't hold back.
"What can you break of mine even if you never pick it up or touch it?"
"Your heart..."
"Good job! Now...What can fill a room...but takes up no space?" he asked, almost seeming he was giving you easy ones on purposes. You knew deep down he didn't want you to die.
"..Love.." you answered, seeming more agitated at the fact of why you are here. He wanted to use you to make a statement. As you answered, Bruce felt his jaw clench. He knew the Riddler fucked you, even had feelings for you. But at this point he was openly flirting and professing his love to you right Infront of him. Bruce knows he messed up with you. But maybe this could bring you together once he saves you both.
"You're so good at this Y/n! And they say public schools doesn't teach people anything..." he joked, but you weren't having it. You were beyond pissed.
"Now, 1 minute and 1 more riddle...I can be offered. A very important part of a relationship, I survive when it is true. What am I?" he asked, this one crawling underneath your skin.
"Loyalty.." you said, clearly pissed off. You were loyal to Bruce, then he slept with his crime partner, Selina, behind your back...Then you gave it to Edward, who was now sitting here, asking you riddles while your life depends on it.
You knew nothing of true loyalty.
As he congratulated you, the contraption fell off. It was freeing. You shot up, your hands feeling your neck area. It was so light now...As you felt tears of happiness and fear come up, your instincts lead you to hug Bruce. As you cried, spewing nonsense of 'thank god' and 'holy shit', you held tightly onto Batman.
Bruce instantly held you back, rubbing your back as you cried into his chest. He didn't want to let you go, and you clearly weren't going to let go anytime soon. He viewed you neck, it was read and bloody from the metal rubbing against your neck all he could give you right now was a small "it's okay".
You heard Bruce help the man answer his tougher riddles. You saw as he tried denying taking brides. Bruce set you aside as he stepped closer to him. Your breath was short as you listened to the bomb tick more and more. Before you knew it, Bruce used his body as a human shield to block you from the explosion. Bruce took the brunt of the explosion for you, protecting your body. Was this way to say sorry?
As you groaned in pain, Bruce whispering in your ear
"It's okay baby, I'm here..."
"You're safe, I'll bring you home.."
All you could do was just listen, you felt so weak. Your eyes closed as police ran in, only hearing yelling for a few faint seconds but nothing.

Dancing in the Moonlight (1/?)
Comp Mints: The In-betweens
Note: this was meant to be a one-shot and it grew and grew and... it's now a multi-part epic. Sigh. But as usual, loving writing it! Oh, and if you're wondering where Skinner is... he'll be along shortly.
Tumblr media
Teaser: In classic X-Files fashion, Mulder presents Scully with a puzzling case: a series of brutal animal attacks in the luxurious resort town of Aspen.  The local authorities blame mountain lions, but the details don't fit.  Mulder suspects something more... supernatural.  Scully, ever the skeptic, remains unconvinced, even as Mulder pulls out historical accounts of werewolves and mythical beasts.  With a free trip to a luxurious spa on the line (courtesy of Mulder's questionable expense tactics), Scully reluctantly agrees to accompany him.  Will they uncover a real werewolf lurking among the rich and famous, or is there another explanation for the Aspen attacks?
Dancing in the Moonlight (1/?) By PR Chung
The report. The Deaths.
It was the usual passionate Mulder build up, replete with a projected slide show.
“These come to from the Pitkin County Colorado’s Sheriff's Department,” Mulder explained as he showed the first slide in his presentation for Scully. “Aspen to be exact. The rocky top playground of the rich and famous.”
The image of a young man appeared on the screen, his throat torn open from ear to ear, blood pooled around his neck and head on the ground were his body lay. He was naked from the waist up, superficial scratches on his chest and face.
“Shannon Mitchell,” Mulder continued, “the first of three victims, all exhibiting the same attack marks.”
“Attacks?” Scully questioned.
Mulder nodded. “Ruled as mountain lion attacks by the Sheriff’s department, based on the medical examiner’s reports.” He handed her the report folder to review and clicked for the next slide that showed a woman, her throat torn out. “Alice Steinman.” And then the next slide, another young man. “And the most recent, Jeffrey Raven.”
“Three deaths in the past six weeks, all attributed to a mountain lion. Game wardens tracked and killed two lions in the area, both times pronouncing that they had killed the killer cat. That was until Jeffrey Raven turned up dead in the woods two days ago, a victim of another attack.”
“The first two reports state the cause of death as accidental animal attack, but don’t specify an animal.” Scully noted, sounding confused. “Where are the DNA results?”
“Local law enforcement didn’t request DNA because this was a cut and dry mountain lion attack, and the ME dropped the mention of a mountain lion when game wardens and a tracker— an internationally renowned tracker, who is one of the only people to inspect a documented mountain lion attack— both refuting that these deaths are the result of a mountain lion attack.”
Scully stood and stepped closer. “These could be dog attacks.”
“Yes, but Mitchel and Raven were both between five-foot nine and six-feet tall. Alice Steinman was five-nine. All attacked while standing.” Mulder clicked to images of the victims’ extremities. “None of them exhibit what is known as ‘take down’ marks on their arms or legs.”
He looked at her. “The game warden, Edward Kessler, who contacted me about this states that these attacks were either by an incredibly large dog.”
“Wait,” Scully said, the realization of where he was going dawning on her. “You’re not suggesting—
No. I’m not going on a werewolf hunt.”
“Lycanthrope hunt.” He corrected her, flipping on the lights as he went to the desk. There he picked up a trifold flyer unfolded in his hands, ready to cajole her. “Look at this place,” he declared holding up the brochure in Scully face. “This place is a rustic haven for the rich and famous— we’d be rubbing elbows with the Gates, Warren Buffet, Brittany Spears—”
She scoffed. “What, you’re suggesting that there’s a— a werewolf luxuriating among the rich and famous in Aspen?”
“No,” he replied, “I’m saying that a werewolf is one of the rich and famous in Aspen.”
“There are no such things as werewolves, Mulder.” He opened his mouth to speak, and she interrupted, “or Skinwalkers for that matter. We’ve been through this before.”
“Even the local native population, the Utes, they trace their origin to a god who is half man, half wolf.”
“Not to be disparaging, but that’s legend.”
“There’s numerous recounting, historically documented incidents throughout the world,” Mulder continued as he went across the room and began rifling through a stack of papers and books. “Going back as far as the Greeks and the Sumerians, stories of curses turning men into shape-shifting evil creatures.”
“Those are myths, Mulder.” Scully countered, tossing the travel brochure onto the desk. “These stories, these legends are born from the misunderstanding of illnesses in humans, be it hypertrichosis causing excessive hair growth, or clinical lycanthropy— zoanthropy, the delusion of turning into an animal, all symptoms of other psychological disorders.”
“Myths, legends, stories,” Mulder repeated, “but inspired by something.”
“Yes, the human imagination.”
“Paleolithic cave painting found in France,” he declared, coming back the desk with ancient looking tome of a book. He put it down on the desk with a thud; the heavy book bound in leather, its pages yellowed and frayed. “Le Bête, the Beast of Gevaudan. P’an Hu, the man-dog that married a Chinese Emperor’s daughter…”
“Man-dog?” Scully repeated, watching him page through the book, stopping to point at drawing after drawing of the creatures.
He flipped back a few pages, stopping and pointing at the drawing of a creature. “For three years, between 1764 and 1767, an unidentified man-eating beast terrorized the southern countryside of France.”
“All right, but how does this relate to Aspen,” Scully picked up the report again, “none of these deaths correspond to a full moon.”
“The effects of the full moon are a fictional popularization of 1940 horror movies.”
She looked at him, stunned. “But all of the rest of this,” she waved her hand over the book, “is not fictional interpretation?”
He tilted his head, a thin grin on his lips as he held the brochure up into view.
Scully snapped the brochure from his hand and held it up to inspect. Slowly, her skeptical perspective dissolved to intrigued approval. “A fifteen-thousand square-foot spa?”
“Two stories,” he promoted.
She nodded thoughtfully. “And private deck patios…”
“That overlook a forest primeval—”
“With a hot tub?”
“You’re getting it.”
“We can’t expense this—”
“When was that ever a problem?”

ive been thinking about one of the things you said about pictures of willy and dylan in high end clothing stores and now im thinking about patrik also tagging along, buying very ridiculous clothes without proper input from either of them because they are in their own little world where willy picks out ties for dylan and stands right next to him all the time and smiles at his goofy morose face while patrik hums through the silliest racks available on the sales floor, and this all gets captured for leafs social media or something and becomes very important leafs trio lore, and 5 year old posts get mass rbed by leafsblr when willy for mitch happens, loaded up with appropriately distraught tags
yesssss anon you get it... THEEE think about pattydylanwilly is that like. patty's just living it up as a third wheel here like. he's got his own little direction (getting injured too much and shaving his head on a whim) and he loves them both and they love him!!!! a third wheel but also they all have two hands...
bc like willy is the emotional support dog for a cheetah with anxiety (they're both cheetahs with anxiety) and patty is the fun one, the attitude, the willful defiance and dylan is the straw that serves the drink; the centre; the next-in-line-as-captain... perfectly balanced kid line -> first line trajectory.
and when they split people are DEVASTATED because like. this has been one of the best lines in the league for years and who could you POSSIBLY bring in to improve it and what the fuck are they going to do with willy in carolina, that has some great players but never makes the playoffs and is just willy and jeff skinner stuck there...
and then mitch already has history with dylan... like they knew each other, they hated each other, they grew to love each other. but he doesn't know patrik? and like i don't think that'll matter right when the trade happens and we're all too distraught by the disruption of our blond4blond4morose brunette triad to fall in love with mitchell but...it'll happen. because as strong and unbothered and powerful as willy is mitch is magic, and dylan and patrik take to him like a fish to water and they're just as good as they always have been, maybe better with him. and as much as we miss willy we love mitch.
and then patty and dylan take mitch back to the high-end clothing store, even though they're not kids anymore who just found out how much money they can make, and they get him something too -- mitch, because he's a chronic people-pleaser and willy isn't, gives in to patrik's whims and gets something fun.

To combat this, five Digibeast hatchlings contact their hatchers and use them to combat the corrupted soldiers created by the FANG Corporation. The only thing missing is a leader, and thus, the group arrive on Earth to prevent Axium from stealing its resources. While in the town of Silver Hills, they meet socially awkward high school student Mitchell Park (Lance Lim) who shows the right amount of courage and imagination to become the leader of the new Turbo Prism team (Adapted from Mashin Sentai Kiramager with Choushinsei Flashman archive footage)

"The Q Stands For Queer, Not Quiet"
Our (my mother and I) tree for the ArtisTREES art show this year is a dedication to the transgender community, both to the 35 transgender Americans that have been senselessly taken from us this year alone and to the transgender Americans that are still fighting for their rights to this day.
Each white bulb lists the name and age of a transgender person who was killed by transphobia in the year 2022. The pyramid tree-topper is an homage to the HIV/AIDS campaign by ACTUP in the 1980s, when the Reagan administration failed to respond quickly enough to the ongoing HIV/AIDS epidemic in the United States.
These are the names of those we've lost in 2022:

Ranking Every Taskmaster Contestant*
Just a list I’ve worked on for the last few years in my drafts and never published, because why would anyone bother to do this without write-ups or statistics, without ever being asked to do it in the first place? But, it’s time to just get it out there.
Basically I judged this on: were they fun to watch, did they bring a character to the show I enjoyed, did they seem to enjoy it themselves, or did they seem to care at all?
I noticed a few patterns. My least favorite seem to be the women who showed up and didn’t really have any familiarity with the show or any interest in competing. Just up from there is a grouping of hapless middle-aged men who I felt weird watching as they failed.
On the other hand, if they were too competitive, I didn’t appreciate that, either. I feel bad putting Ed Gamble down at #20—I listen to him on two podcasts, but he was way too aggressively competitive in Taskmaster. It’s also part of why Iain Sterling, who otherwise would’ve had a higher spot on the list just by nature of being Scottish, but he really made an ass of himself throughout Series 8.
Bias is probably the reason my #1 is my #1. A major theme of many of my top favorites seems to be that they are lanky, smart-dumbass types.
I know there are several people will disagree with me on. Would love to hear what y’all think!
Anyway, here it is, updated through season 14.

“‘WILFULLY DESIGNED FORGERY' BRINGS MAN TWO-YEAR TERM,” Toronto Star. April 30, 1942. Page 2. --- "Victims Can Ill-Aford to Stand Losses, George Smith Is Told ---- "YOUR RECORD BAD" ---- "A" Police Court as the City Hall Magistrate Gullen Magistrate Gullen today sentenced George Smith, 24, to two years penitentiary, en six charges of forgery and six of uttering. [TOP PHOTO]
"Your crime was designed - you gathered consider able equipment to enable you to forge these cheques," the bench told the prisoner. "Your victims can ill afford to stand the losses, and for a man of your age, you have a bad record.” Detective Sgt. Fred Skinner said Smith obtained rubber stamps of various firms and the name of the manager, and then filled out six cheques totaling $427.41, cashing them in banks.
The officer said he found in. Smith's room a number of rubber stamps and also several cheques filled out ready to cash.
"He told me that he used the money to support himself," said the witness.
"It was a deliberate campaign to defraud," declared Crown Attorney Hope. Michael Marks was sentenced to six months for breaking into a garage on Dundas east, at 5 am, April 14.
Edward Mitchell was sentenced to 40 days in jail for stealing two bells from a Wellesley St. home.
"He walked into the house, took the bells: when he was arrested he was trying to sell them," related Det-Sgt. Ewing.
“I would not have done it, had I not been drinking." said Mitchell/
"You were here a few weeks ago on a charge of stealing a bicycle and I gave you a chance," Magistrale. Gullen recalled,
‘RECEIVING' CHARGED ---- Police Court B at City Hall, Magistrate Brown. Albert Cawan was committed for trial on charges of receiving an electric razor, three shirts, four ties and a number of gasoline rationing coupons. Margaret Baldwin, similarly charged, was discharged.
Mickey Tudor, complainant, told the crown he and Cowan were carrying on a bootlegging establishment. He said that while he was under arrest, charged with breach of the Liquor Control Act, his apartment was ransacked. He said the stolen articles were found in a room occupied by Cowan and Mrs. Baidwin.
Tudor admitted to Louis Herman, defence counsel, that he left Cowan the keys of his car .
"And it would be of no use without gasoline?” counsel asked.
Witness agreed but stated no car could use the gasoline the coupon taken would buy.
GETS THREE YEARS ---- Police Court at City Hall, Magistrale McNish Mike Maciokas charged with a serious offence was sentenced to three years on evidence previously heard. [BOTTOM PHOTO]
Duigmond Fillipps, Kathleen Swanson and Amoorce Sequin, charged with keeping disorderly house, were convicted today after pleading not guilty. Fillips was sentenced to 6 months in jail and the two women were fined $25 or 30 days each.
SOLD LIQUOR, JAILED --- Police Court "D" at City Hall Magistrate Prentice Michael Gagliardi pleaded guilty of selling liquor and was sentenced to two months. The liquor was confiscated and the premises were declared a public place.
"Early on Sunday, April 12," testified PC. William Baker. “I went to this man's home.” He added that he found P.C. Johnston, who was acting as an operative, siting with accused drinking from a bottle of ale.
“P.C. Johnston told me he had bought it from accused."
Dymietro Bolychuk, convicted at manufacturing spirits, was given the minimum, $100 or 3 months.
"On March 28 at 3 pm,” stated Corporal W. Heyward RCMP. “I searched the premises of accused on Robinson St. and found in three bottles 50 ounces of spirits. The bottles were hot, and the accused told me he had made the wine that day. I asked him to produce the distilling apparatus, which he did, showing me his method of distillation, which was crudely done in an ordinary kettle. From analysis, we found the alcoholic content was 4.24%, I had warned him previously not to engage in the distilling business"
"The wine was for myself." stated the accused. “I made only two little bottles of it. I thought I was entitled to do that."
[AL: Smith was 24, a dairy farmer apparently, but unemployed at the time, from Grand Valley, Ontario. He had three previous terms in the reformatory. At Kingston Penitentiary, he was convict #6921 and worked on the prison farm. He was transferred after 100 days to the low security Collin’s Bay Penitentiary (in August 1942) and was released from there in October 1943.
Maciokas was 30, unemployed, with a record of three previous jail terms for various ‘improper’ sexual activities. He was sentenced for sodomy in this case, being caught having sex with another man. He was convict #6922 at Kingston and worked in the laundry. He was released by parole in September 1943.]
